We had a great dinner tonight at the Granary. From the Caesar salad to the amazing desserts, everything was wonderful. The crabcakes were some of the most delicious I have ever had, filled with crabmeat and the "Sassafras Mud" (their special sauce) was fabulous. My husband's scallops were perfection. I love how you can order a half or whole portion which means you can solve your problem of what to order by ordering a half of 2 different selections or just order a half and save room for one of their delectable desserts. We all got a different dessert. My key lime pie was wonderful and I always consider myself a key lime snob. Everyone loved their dessert, I already know on my next visit I will have the carrot cake. The service was efficient and friendly. Congratulations to the new owner and chef, we can't wait to go back.

After reading the previous reviews I was a little skeptical. We stopped there for dinner on Monday night and my wife and I both had the Prime Rib special (half price). We ordered one rare and one medium rare and both were well over an ich thick filled the entire plate and were cooked perfectly. There was a reasonable selection of draft beers and good inexpensive wine. We like it so much that we went back again on Tuesday and had a the Fillet salad and a caesar salad, both were excellent and washed it down with a bottle of wine. I would recommend this place to anyone! Service was great!

I think this place wants to come off fancier than it actually is. My cobb salad was drenched in vinaigrette. Blagh! I think this place only good for Monday wing night, but I believe they don't do that any longer because they got in trouble for serving minors.

Went there this past Monday for half off burgers and 35 cent wings. Service was not good and food was okay. After being seated no server came to our table we had to ask the hostess where our server was. Food wasn't bad, but I'm sure the burgers and wings were frozen food service stuff and not home made. I'd consider going again to see if it gets any better. Very crowded, popular place on a Monday night.

The Granary reopened this summer (2013) and is everything I could have hoped for. It has an amazing new menu, nice beverage selection, great desserts, attentive staff, and unbelievable views. The updated interior is light, open and comfortable. Every table has a great view of the river and sunset. To start, my husband and I split a delicious Field Green salad with a poached pear. His entree was the grilled, marinated chicken breast, which includes tasty crab-stuffed peppers, and my scallops were perfectly cooked and seasoned. We also loved the pigs in a blanket and nachos that other folks at our table ordered, as well as the carrot cake and key lime pie. The draft beer choices were nice, and nicely complemented our meals. I can't wait to go back to see what they've done with the room downstairs and try their daily specials.

We learned today that The Granary had reopened under new owners and we were in the area so we decided to try it for lunch. It has been remodeled and has a welcoming bar called the Sassafras Grille with a beautiful view as well as a nice dining room also with a great view. We opted to sit in the bar because it had a more cozy feel. We were served by Dave Anderson who we believe is also the owner and a great guy. They have a good beer selection and he offered us tastes of two beers we were not familiar with to help us make our choices. He actually brought over three samples. The menu has a mix of soups, salads, sandwiches, appetizers and entrees. There is a heavy emphasis on seafood. We tried the Maryland crab soup and the Shrimp bisque, both excellent. My husband had the special surf and turf burger, a deliciously flavored burger with a crab cake on top. It was outstanding. I had the half serving of the crab nachos. The half serving was plenty for lunch and the combination worked well. The crab was seasoned with Old Bay so did not get lost in the nacho mix. A nice feature of the menu is many items can be ordered in half or full portions. The wine list had many good choices. Prices are good for the quality of food being served. We will return for lunch and can't wait to go back and try it for dinner. Desserts sounded good but we were too full...maybe next time.

My family and I enjoyed a delicious dinner last evening! I had the crab cakes and they were wonderful. My husband enjoyed his fish taco and my kids all loved their meals as well. So nice to have healthy (non fried, fresh vegetables) offerings on a kids menu! the atmosphere and view are just lovely. Our waitress could not have been nicer. A beautiful place to eat good food and watch the boats go by.

VERY disappointed! Service was slow, food was less than acceptable. Ordered "caprese" salad, they have no clue. Arugula was terrible, no balsamic and a ton of cherry toms and very little moz balls for $7?! Ordered the filet, smaller than 6oz and over cooked (ordered medium) came out med well. And for $32, outrageously over priced!!!!No baked potatoes, everything else potatoe?! Corn on cob was tasteless and hard. Waiter didnt come back to ask if it was ok, didnt take off the salad and giggled when we asked questions or gave a negative response. No manager came over, and "young adults" running the show. Will NEVER be back. Used to frequent via our boat. Steer clear of this place or just go to the bar and bar food!

Terrible service. I was there on April 30th in the evening. The waitress was only interested in clearing the table. Other than that she was totally uninterested in serving us. Our bill was $60 that we chose to pay with a $100 bill. She asked in front of the whole restaurant if we wanted our change. I was so taken aback I asked her to repeat it. Which she did. Food was okay. In spite of beautiful view I will not be going back.

Worst service and food I have ever had in a restaurant at The Sassafras Grill. An hour and a half wait for out food. Ordered a crab cake and it was the size of a silver dollar pancake. Band was playing and it was so loud you could not talk to anyone at the table. Was hoping for a good experience but not the case here.

I came in here with the family for brunch this past summer and was really blown away. I didn't really expect anything particularly special but everything that we had was incredibly good. So good, in fact, I can still remember the eggs benedict with crab cakes that I had more than 6 months later. I can't recall what the rest of the table had but we all agreed that it was phenomenal. Although I haven't been to that part of the Eastern Shore since this summer, I'll be sure to stop by the Granary the next time I'm in the area on a weekend morning.

Breakfast food was ok at the sassafras grill but the service was very slow. There are flies all over as well!

The Granary is back open for buisness . Find another place to eat unless you really really like salt . The hamburger was just plain aweful and the Shrimp cocktail at $15.00.00 for Four ( $ ) shrimp is just a rip off. The prices are sky high and the food is hardly edible . Go down the road to Twinneys and pay $5.00 instead of $11.00 for a far superior burger and fries you can actually eat and not go into cardiac arrest from the Old Bay seasoning , and then more salt they pour on everything .

We stopped in for dinner yesterday. The restaurant was empty. This should've been a clue to leave. The dining room was cramped for a able bodied person, let alone my wheelchair. The bathroom was also not truly wheelchair accessible. As for the food. I was severely disappointed. I ordered the chicken fettuccine. It had an off taste to it. My dad's fried oysters also tasted as if they had spoiled, so he sent them back and got the "meatloaf", which was just a barely cooked hamburger with gravy. My mom and sister ordered the stroganoff and were let down after our server had said it was excellent and very popular. Needless to say, we will not return.

Ignore the "closed" review below - this place is now open and with a new owner. Stopped in for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the fish tacos. My son had the lobster mac and cheese and I was jealous that he got to enjoy that nice big bowl of heaven. My wife had the salad with crab stuffed peppers and she said it was excellent. Alos, be sure to order the crab nachos appetizer. Yes - crab nachos. Fresh and delicious. Good beer selection. Kid friendly. Boat slips. The perfect bayside dining experience. We were told that the lower level will be opening soon for a more casual dining experience. Get there ASAP!

What a change. This place is now open under new management and the food is great. They have cleaned it up and it just feels better. But the food is absolutely awesome. We met the new owner /manager and he was the executive chef. Of Iron Hill brewery. I hope this place does well because I will eat here every time I come down to the area. Nice staff too! But the food is what we loved most. Crab cakes, mussels, and the salads were all great.

We had a small wedding reception this past Saturday, November 2nd for 21 people at the Granary and were seated in the sassafras room - the setup was great - a pretty room with a fireplace overlooking the water that was private and yet large enough to allow us to socialize with each other. The food was excellent and our waitress Lynette was outstanding. Our families raved about the food with each person selecting from the menu - a sampling of the meals included crab cakes, filet mignon, the chef's vegetable surprise, the rock fish catch of the day, oysters, mussels, and fish tacos. We had a great time and would encourage others to go to the Granary - you won't be disappointed.
