Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Been here 5 or 6 times and have had all sorts of experiences. The first time, my pizza was left to sit on the counter while my husband's food was prepared. 15 minutes later, my pizza was cold. They graciously took it back when I called them out (we were seated right in front of the kitchen watching it get cold) and made me another. The freshly made pizza had the smallest sprinkling of basil right in the center of the pie, with 4 tomato slices haphazardly thrown around the edges. Not impressed with the pizza, and certainly wouldn't call what I received "Margherita". Would not recommend. The next 2 times, I ordered a chicken salad "sammich" and it was really good. Who would have thought that spicy mustard would go well on chicken salad? Well, it was. Recommend. I then ordered a steak sandwich with caramelized onions and horseradish spread. Couldn't locate the horseradish spread anywhere on the sandwich, so boo to that. The fourth time I ordered the mac and cheese as a side and meh...it was piping hot, bathed in a dish of oil/grease, and bland. Do not recommend. Today (5th visit), I once again ordered the steak sandwich, this time with EXTRA horseradish sauce and a side salad. The salad was AMAZEBALLS and was lightly tossed with a spicy honey mustard dressing. It had a nice selection of vegetables and a small sprinkling of cheddar cheese. It was awesome. The sandwich? Not so much. This time, I could at least see the sauce, but couldn't taste it. So disappointing, especially since my salad was so good. Overall, I would say that they lack consistency in the food prep department, but their food would be great if they could get a handle on it. Other than the chicken salad, I think I'll steer clear of the sandwiches from now on and focus on the salads.

Nothing special and a bit more expensive then it should be. I wouldn't mind spending $9 on a grilled steak sandwich, but, when the steak is dried out and the sandwich is on a 4" roll, I have a bit of a problem with that. Other than the dried up sandwich, everything else was just mediocre. There are too many better options in that shopping center to waste another trip here.

Right now you're hungry and you've turned to Yelp to find somewhere worth eating. Well, this is it. Tell the whiny person in your group to shut up and that no, you're not going to TGI Friday's for a second time this week. Navigate towards Newk's Eatery and read the rest of this review on your way there. My boyfriend and I were in a similar (foodless) situation today, but we didn't Yelp it. Instead, we just randomly walked in. And, we're both very happy we did. We discussed making it one of our new favorite places. If you eat here, you'll see why. Here's a list of what made this place refreshingly different. (1) After you order at the counter, they give you a number to place on your table and they bring your food to you. When you're done, you don't have to bus your own table - they take care of it (unlike at Panera where you try, in vain, to avoid getting your thumb in your empty soup bowl while dropping it in the brown dirty bin). You can tip if you want, but it's not expected or required. (2) The kitchen is visible from the lobby so you can watch them make your food if you choose (this should satisfy even the most suspicious tin-foil-hat-wearing person in your party). No, that's just salt they sprinkled on - not a mind-control agent. (3) They have this thing called the "Round Table" at the front of the establishment. It's cool like King Arthur, but it has nothing to do with knights. Instead, it has all these free high-end accouterments for you to add to your food: different types of hand-sliced peppers, crunchy bread sticks, thickly sliced pickle chips, imported capers, huge roasted garlic cloves, etc. You can take as much as you want, but make sure to eat what you take (there are starving kids in Africa. Not here. Just Africa). (4) They make their pizza dough and desserts from scratch. Their pizza dough is made daily. And, while we're on the subject of pizza, I had the spicy shrimp pizza. It was really, really good. Seriously. I consider myself a pizza connoisseur. And, this pizza was good. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it beats 95% of the rubbish they call "pizza" in the Baltimore area. (5) My boyfriend said "It was good." That sounds meaningless, but it's really like having your eight-year-old mute child speak his first word. My boyfriend is the most unexcitable person out there when it comes to food. Whenever we eat something it's always just "ok." It's almost never better than "ok." Here, it was "good." VICTORY! He had the nitrate-free turkey breast toasted sub and couldn't stop remarking about how "good" the bread was. He liked that it remained soft despite being toasted. (6) The owner (or manager?) was going table to table and talking to customers. She wasn't just rushing by and saying "Is everything ok...great..." before you have a chance to open your mouth (yea, I'm talking about you, Olive Garden). She paused at our table and told us about the restaurant for a couple minutes. I was really impressed with how nice she was. (7) $1.95 gets you a 32 ounce drink that's refillable. That, in and of itself, is not so great. But, it comes in a well-made plastic tumbler that's reusable! Bring it home, wash it out, use it a million times. Now, this particular tumbler says "Newks Cares - September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month." So, I'm not sure if this is a one-time thing and they'll later go back to waxed paper cups. However, what I thought was really neat is that these tumblers are recyclable! The tumbler is #2 plastic and the lids are #1 plastic: these are the two most recyclable plastics around. So, if you get one, and you don't want to keep it, at least bring it home and toss it into your recycling bin. (8) There are vegetarian options besides a salad (but there are also salads). There is a vegetarian pizza, a five-cheese pizza, a margherita pizza, a vegetarian club sandwich, a pimiento cheese sandwich, and five-cheese mac n' cheese. Grilled cheese is also on the kid's menu (if you get on your knees to reduce your height and talk like a baby, maybe they'll sell it to you despite your real age). Depending on the day, they may also have a vegetarian soup. (9) The bathroom was spotless.

My cousins had been ranting & raving about this spot for months before my initial visit. In fact, when my little cousin celebrated her Sweet16, guess where she wanted to have dinner... I was like, are you sure? We can go anywhere you want. However, she was adamant about celebrating her birthday at Newk's. Newk's is not the casual pizza joint that I expected and has a lot of fresh offerings that go far beyond pizza. The restaurant (including restroom) is clean, well lit, and brightly colored. Service was great and employees really kind. I've visited many times since then and tried quality selections like: +Pizzas: 5 Cheese, spicy chicken, spicy shrimp, The Debra +Salads: Caesar, shrimp & avocado +Handcrafted Sammys: Grilled chicken, Shrimp Po'Boy +Soups: Crab & corn chowder, lobster & crab bisque, Seafood Provençal If you're in the area, check them out. Thanks to the great value, I pop in every chance I get. I take advantage of their lunch combos where you pick your favorite duo too.

First time eating here as some coworkers wanted to have lunch here. This is like many Yelp reviews in that I have passed this place so many times but never went in. Luckily a few people had a taste for it and I am so glad that they did since who knows how long I would keep telling myself. "I will try it one day". A very clean restaurant with plenty of seating. It seems as if most people come in to get their food to go. It is a very busy area since I went around lunch time and Newk's is located in a very high traffic area. Keep your head on a swivel because many people seem to act like it is too much trouble to slow down even when in the crosswalk. There is plenty to choose from on the menu but not so much you are overwhelmed. I went with the sausage and pepperoni pizza after much deliberation. There is a healthy portion on the menu but it's not like I am looking there. The pizza was a personal 10 inch pizza and it was topped off with fresh basil to accompany the Campioni pepperoni, pork sausage, Roma tomatoes, mozzarella and provolone cheese. From the time I ordered to the time my food was brought to me was no more than ten minutes. All ingredients on the pizza tasted fresh even the dough. Many times you see a frozen pie crust come up out the back and ingredients are just placed on. Not the case here. I was actually very surprised by how good the pizza tasted and I am looking forward to try even more. I am also eager to try their salads. Yes I said salads. The fact that they use fresh ingredients makes a difference and your taste buds will know the difference.

Boy, I've really been sleeping on this place! Eek! I've passed it dozens of times, but never thought to stop until I checked it out on Yelp first. With so many positive reviews, I knew I had to check it out for myself. Since it was my first time here, I wasn't really sure what to order. The cashier was extremely helpful and friendly, as he came from behind the counter to show me the menu (it's located to the right of the registers) and explain the many options I could make. They specialize in salads, sandwiches and pizzas. I decided on the Shrimp Po Boy sandwich with a side of fruit for my lunch and I also ordered the Cobb Salad for my dinner for later. Since it was a carry-out order, I waited at a table for a few minutes and the server brought me my food. Had I been dinning in, I would've placed my order at the register, had a seat and the server would deliver the food to me. They have ample amount of seating indoors, as well as a patio outside with seating. The food was shockingly really good! I wasn't expecting one little old shrimp po boy to pack so much flavor in it. The shrimp on the po boy was seasoned perfectly and the flavor was awesome. It was a nice size sandwich with plenty of shrimp in every bite. Definitely plenty for lunch. When I eventually ate the Cobb salad, it blew my mind! Pecans, blue cheese, eggs, chicken....they had everything in it but the kitchen sink. It comes with blue cheese dressing, but I asked for honey mustard dressing since I heard such great things about it. You should too because it had some heat that kicks you in the back of your throat when you eat it. Delish! I'm glad I decided to check Newk's out because I'm now a huge fan. The prices can be a bit steep, so I won't be here on a regular basis, but I will come back to try a few other dishes. That Cobb salad though!!!! Whew!

Newk's has been on my bookmarks for awhile. Soley because of my yelp friend Ric P. and of course Elsa. So I was in the area with my hubby, and we decided to give it a try. Walking in I was inpressed at the space and layout. We gave the menu a glance ( there were lots of choices that looked tasty) I opted for the cobb and him of course as always and predictable he got the italian sandwhich. We both got chips and drinks. Drinks seem to only come in one size for adults( super extreme large) for 1.95 and free refills. I will say for 2 meals the total was like $23.00. I was a little thrown back by that, $23.00 in Panera will get us meals and the child a meal. But oh well... it was ordered and no take backs right. :-) The cashier gave us our number and picked a spot. We got a booth and our drinks. I was happy to see sweet tea. But I will say the other choices were kinda super basic. Like the fountain drinks I mean if you dont like tea and dont drink soda...lemonade is your only choice. Maybe through in a fruit punch or something. To be fair there is a fridge with bottle drinks, not sure of the prices though. Our food didnt really take that long. My chicken cobb salad came out and was correct as I ordered, No pecans, No cheese, no tomatoes, Ranch on the side. Perfect... but maybe I should have asked for extra items. I will say it was beautifully presented and the chicken wasnt just some old boxed frozen chicken.. No just thrown in the bowl. Hubbys itailian sandwhich was yummy from the bite I took. Everything tasted fresh but the bread .... the bread is where its at. As hubby says " the bread made the sandwhich" and I agree! Little things that made me happy: Lots of outlets for charging Free Wifi Super Clean bathroom even during the lunch rush Great Customer Service Outside seating I kinda cant wait to come back to try some other stuff out, If you are in the area give them a try.

I ordered the summer special shrimp and avocado salad based on looking at the menu online. In the online picture, the shrimp looks to be grilled and seasoned. In reality, the shrimp are neither grilled nor seasoned, and were tasteless. I got ceaser dressing on the side, and not even that helped. I did dip the 5 - 6 cherry tomatoes and few dices of avocado in it, though. It was okay, but not great. Not sure what the greens were. Looked like arugula, but it tasted like grass / earth and were not crisp - kind of limp like they were too chilled or not fresh? Dressing didn't help. And there were also dices of green onion mixed in, but even eaten on their own, they had no taste. The iced tea was good, the lemon slices looked fresh, and the tables were being bussed very quickly to turn over the busy lunch crowd. If I go back I'll try a sandwich!

Located in Waugh chapel near Pier 1 I decided to stop in and finally try this place last time I was out shopping. Typical walk up and order before grabbing your drink and table number operation, Newks seemed well attended by customers and staff alike. After ordering you're directed to grab from an assortment of condiments to include pickles and breadsticks. Admittedly I found this kind of an odd offering but hey, something to munch on while we waited. A few minutes after we filled our cups large enough to bathe in our food arrived. I had ordered the Italian while the girlfriend ordered the chicken salad. The Italian seemed to have good ingredients to include great bread but it was so overloaded with vinegar sauce that it almost destroyed my taste buds to eat. I love vinegar as much as the next person but this was overkill. That line from Aliens came to mind "We have to nuke (Newk?) it from orbit...its the only way to be sure..." The chicken salad was very good and tasted like the ingredients were well put together. The sides of pasta salad and black bean salad were rather unimpressive. Not a great first go but it was promising enough that I'll give it another go before I discount it entirely.

Newks is a great addition to the area and a perfect lunch or dinner spot for a yummy, casual meal. Their menu is extensive and the food is always fresh and delicious. Sometimes I'm in the mood for their yummy soups or sandwiches, and other times I love their pizzas, which taste better than your typical Italian restaurant pizzas. Oh, and I can't forget their delicious sweet tea! It rivals Chick Fil A's tea for sure. The staff are always warm and friendly, and you often see managers circulating the store cleaning tables, refilling lemons, and checking in with customers. You really can't go wrong eating here, unless you just don't try it!
(4)Ernest F.
The service has always been friendly and helpful and delivered in a natural manner and not a "cookie cuter" or "trained" manner. I love the Italian Sub from Newk's. Everyone who I have dined with here has always been happy with their selection. The covered outdoor dining area is nice and I love the fact they have a sink outside the restrooms to clean up prior to eating. I wish more places offered this. The booths are large and comfy offering a nice setting for a lunch meeting, that doesn't require to much privacy.

I've never been disappointed with the food here. I dine in and carry out, always good! My favorite is the Cobb salad with ranch. It comes with blue cheese unless you ask otherwise. Personally, I find that using blue cheese dressing in combination with the blue cheese crumbles in the salad is just a bit too much for me. They are always accommodating, but half the time still give me the wrong dressing. I've never had a soup that wasn't fantastic. They make their own croutons. Usually they are absolutely delish! Occasionally they are stale. If you've had the fresh croutons then you know how epically disappointing getting a stale batch is. It's happened to me a few times. My kids love the pizzas. I had a Thai and a veggie one that was very tasty. I've enjoyed all the sandwiches I've tried except the chicken salad sandwich. It was just too much, too mushy, and creamy. The flavor was nice but it could have definitely used some crunch (lettuce, cucumber, grapes, nuts, SOMETHING.) My kids love the grilled cheese. I only give 4 stars because I always have to check my order before I go because half the time they will forget an ingredient in my cobb salad (usually croutons or pecans) or give me the wrong dressing. The other reason is their huge plastic cups they hand out for their drinks, but don't encourage you to bring back and reuse. They will still charge you a full price for your drink even if you bring back your cup, not to mention you have no other choice. They don't have any cup alternatives. It's their big bucket of a plastic cup or nothing.

I've been coming to this joint since it first opened, and I haven't had a single bad experience. It's a nice, different addition to what's already available in this shopping center. You're probably thinking what I thought when my coworkers first wanted to go there; 'Salad? (sarcastic) Wooo, awesome.' But no, really, it's a lot better than that. The salad really is good, I usually get their half-size caesar. Lots of dressing, always fresh, and a good-sized portion for a reasonable price. My co-workers and friends have gotten an array of dishes, ranging from soups to pizza, and everyone loves what they get. Their little bar in the front of the restaurant is really nice, full of flavorful additions to your food you might like, and their fabulous packs of breadsticks that I usually punish. Whatever you do, don't skip the cake! All of their cakes are good, but ESPECIALLY the strawberry! I can't stop raving about that stuff. I buy two slices every time I go, one for now, one for home. It's THAT good! The staff is also very friendly, and food comes out quickly. We usually get a visit from who I'm assuming is the manager, and he's very polite. A+ establishment!
(4)Anthony B.
A decent eatery in the Waugh Chapel Town Center. Today they were out of some of their popular soups, so I tried the lobster bisque, which was OK, but not as good as the tomato soup. Great place near the movies, and other stores to meet up with friends...
(3)Angel B.
Eat hear. I had the most delicious shrimp po'boy that I've ever had. The iced tea is good too. Service was done with a smile. I'll definitely visit to get more menu items.
(5)Virginia G.
Oh, hey! Another addition to the many soup, sammich, and pizza places in the Wauch Chapel center. Cuz, y'know, we already have a Panera and a Subway and a CoalFire and a Firehouse and...oh well. Decent, fast, cheap, very family-friendly. Meatless options, pepper bar, some pretty sexy looking layer cakes. Not as loud and cramped as the restaurants mentioned above and for that reason I may be back.
(3)Tay P.
I got the shrimp po boy, my boyfriend got the newks q. Both were seasoned with water, just blah! Can you say bland?
(1)Princess W.
I would drive back all the way here for a sandwich it was very good pizza not so much...the Mac and cheese lack flavor but the sandwich was the best
(5)Scott O.
The food is pretty good, but the service is poor. You can see that the owner has let go of his closing staff and they do anything they can to get out early. They are running a vacuum right next to me now. Totally uncool in the presence of customers, health code violation too. They have also dumped All the iced tea before closing the last several months. It would be less of an issue if they bothered to mention it, not hard with 2 customers in the place. So now they're brewing some tea for me and wow are they pissed.
(2)Review G.
Newk's is everything good! I've been coming to Newks since it first opened. It is a cafe where customers walk up to the counter to place an order, given a number, then the food is brought to your table. Perhaps not the best place to wine and dine a first date, but maybe for some. All the food is fresh and delicious. Nice atmosphere with very friendly staff. I also enjoy the free stuff on the round table. Especially the crunchy breadsticks. I'm a frequent customer and never had a bad experience. Try it! I think you will like it.
(4)Jimmy P.
This place is flat out amazing. Perfect customer service today and possibly the best turkey sandwich I've ever had. Sweet Tea also earns its own set of stars. It's difficult for me to not eat here because it just blows everything else away.
(5)Samantha H.
The food is great!!! The only complaint I have is that I've ordered the same salad twice with honey mustard dressing and they never give me honey mustard dressing.
(4)Wayne H.
They need WiFi. Great food though and affordable not like some Deli places around here. Decor was good, nice and clean. Never had a problem with the service. It is very hospitable. The food is great. Best deli place in the area. I usually order the steak salad. I have not had a bad meal here yet. They just opened so I look forward for more reviews. Decor - 4 of 5 Service - 4 of 5 Food - 4 of 5

Atomic Bomb? Exactly how it sounds. Newks..... is a nice change from your average deli/Panera bread type experience. Solid 4 1/2. Freshly decorated with brick and bright colors you walk in and definitely get that small sandwich shop feel, even though the establishment itself is decently sized with plenty of seating. It's got a pretty chill vibe with the music in the background and is the perfect place to grab lunch with friends. Their service here is also epic. I've only had one bad run in with it when I attempted to use their to-go service and their employee though it would be funny to prank answer and mock me. Other than that their service is great! I've been a regular here since they opened and my wife nor myself have encountered a bad culinary experience. Soups, sandwiches (toasted and not), fresh salads, pizza and a few Mac and cheese options are what you can expect to find. They also offer a "little Newks" section with smaller portioned dishes for the little ones. My personal favorite is the Grilled Steak sandwich which comes with diced tender beef, caramelized onions, provolone cheese and a bit of horseradish spread on a toasted hoagie~like bread. It's got that savory flavor with a little sweetness from the onions and it absolutely delicious. Little secret.... Get that and dip it in there White BBQ sauce. Mm mm good. One other thing I love is their signature beverage! I am a huge tea drinker and both their sweet and unsweetened teas are brewed perfectly. If tea isn't your thing they have a small beer selection and your token fountain machine. So, if your looking for a place to eat super tasty food and almost fee like your eating healthy, give Newks a shot.
(4)Elsa M.
At first glance, Newk's looks like just another "better than average" new chain to the area, but upon walking in and looking at the menu, you realize you are in for something more.... and you better be since the price point is about 25% higher than you were expect for the type of fare that is presented (sandwiches, salads, soups, flatbreads, etc). Many of the items have creole influences, but it's not over the top. I got a crawfish and black pepper soup that was phenomenal, as well as a half portion of the Grilled Chicken toasted sub with Applewood smoked bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, olive oil, mayo and Newk's Honey Mustard. Outstanding! My lunch companion tried the Shrimp Remoulade salad which was made with mixed greens, shrimp, eggs and grape tomatoes tossed with Newk's Remoulade dressing and enjoyed it very much. The service was impeccable. A table that I wanted wasn't bussed when I approached and the manager himself happily helped out and bussed it for me at my request. When I waited a bit too long to eat my soup only to have it get a bit too cold, I asked for it to be re-heated and a server instead just gave me another bowl - something he did not have to do since it was my fault it got cold to begin with. Those little gestures (coupled with the fact that the food really was outstanding) has made me a new fan of Newk's. It's not the type of place you would come and set up your laptop and work for the day like you would at Panera, but it is the type of place that you would drive a couple miles outside of your way to get to if you were in the mood for a solid lunch with friends or business associates and needed something quick, but tasty.
(5)C L.
Love the Mac n cheese, they bake it and put it on a fun little platter. Somewhat pricey, the cake is not good, it's dry and was expecting higher quality mix and flavor from what Newk's marketing boasts of its food.

This café located in the Waugh Chapel S.C was a nice surprise. It is similar to the setup at a Panera or Atlanta Bread but with a better variety of cuisine: primarily in soup, sandwiches and salads. The portions along with the very reasonable prices were really a surprise. We ordered two salads and one soup to share (which I am glad we did) . We are not very big eaters, but these salads were huge. Probably twice the size of their competitors (at least) and they were very good. Fresh , delicious with a good balance of ingredients . The soup was also very large. It was in a large bowl and if I had to guess, I would say it was at least about 24 oz. Enough for two people for sure. That too was very well- prepared. The service was very good. Our only issue with this restaurant is the atmosphere. The décor/ amenities are a bit dated and not very stimulating. Regardless, that doesn't bother us a bit and we look forward to going back . We highly recommend.
(4)Jen L.
Great place! Food is very good. Customer service is great - food was out very quickly. Similar to Panera bread with soups, salads, sandwiches, etc. and the option for combos. Everything was fresh and made to order. Will definitely go back!
(5)Mary R.
This place is wonderful! It's my favorite spot for either lunch or dinner in the area, hands down. First, the service is great. The staff is consistently friendly, fast, and accurate. There is always a manager walking around as well to check in with customers on how their meals are. Second, the food is high quality, fresh, and delicious! I've never had a meal I did not like here. I recommend their homemade soups, and club and turkey sandwiches. Their fountain drink cup is big, high quality, and plastic that you can fill up on your way out and have a drink the rest of the day. Last, their facilities are pretty and welcoming and always clean. You have the option to sit outside on the large patio and dogs are welcome! Don't miss out on this place! It is not even comparable to Panera: Newks is way better for many reasons but mostly the food is fresher and larger portions for the same prices. Enjoy!
(5)Kim B.
One of my favorite places to dine! I go at least 4x a month. It's not close to my home so I'll come here on the way from work if I just want to eat and play on my iPad. It's my 2nd Panera Bread minus the free WiFi. I LOVE the Crab Bisque and Cobb Salad. The salad is huge! I've also had the Jambalaya Soup(I think it's called) and the other crab soup and they were delicious. My only complaint is they don't have crab soup everyday. :-(
(5)C M.
I like this place. Spacious. Service is good and they give you plenty of food. Looks clean. I would recommend.
(5)Becca B.
This is my 3rd time coming here and so far all 3 times have been great, the staff is friendly and the food is awesome, it's Kind of like a panera bread but wayyy better food! The honey mustard is amazing, must get a side of it for any of the sandwiches you get. The food comes out quick and the staff bring it right to you. I haven't tried the pizza yet but I'm sure I will on the next trip here.

Newk's Eatery is new in Gambrills, MD, and sits in the Waugh Chapel Shopping Center next to Applebee's. This is one of those places where you order your food at the register, get a number, fill your own drinks, pick a table, display your number and the food eventually arrives. Newk's offers salads, sandwiches, soups and desserts. The menu has a good lay-out and it's easy to navigate between the selections. Problem... Soups, made fresh. The menu doesn't tell you what the daily, fresh soups are and there is no signage at the registers informing you what the daily soups are. You have to ask... Problem ... The cashier will ask if you want dessert. But the desserts are not listed in the menu (unless I missed them) and the desserts are not on displayed. Now the menu does mention cake is sold by the slice and as a whole cake. But you have to ask what the daily cake is... So for me, since I can't read about the cake, nor can I see the cake, then I'm not ordering dessert. It's possible many others don't order dessert because of this. Choosing our table ... we arrived just after the lunch crowd. There were about 8-10 empty tables but none had been wiped down. The tables had been cleared, just not cleaned. I had to ask an employee to clean a table for us. The table was immediately cleaned but the facial expression and body language of the employee spoke volumes as to the task they were performing. While waiting for our order to arrive, a manager stopped to chat. Order arrived. Manager stopped to see if order came out ok. Half-way through meal ... manager stopped to check on us. When almost done with sandwiches, manager stopped to chat. And, as we were putting on coats, manager [again] stopped to say 'thanks for coming' and to [again] check to see if we had enjoyed our stay. Now personally I didn't find the managers continued stops at our table annoying but the wife did. I got the Chili and a 'Royal Sub'. Wife got a 'Ham-n-Cheese' Sub. The sandwiches were good and the meats tasted great. The roast beef was tender and the ham was very lean. The bread for both our sandwiches was good, had a fresh-baked smell and taste. However, we both felt the bread was under-cooked as it was mushy inside. The soup, aka the Chili... Being retired military I've been served many a canned chili with the majority of it being Hormel Chili. I hate Hormel Chili and it has a very unique flavor which you just cannot mask. Newk's Chili is served with onions, meat and a small sprinkling of cheese, The scent and taste of their Chili was, to me, right out of a Hormel Chili can. NOW PLEASE ... I am not saying that Newk's is serving doctored Hormel Chili ... I am only offering my opinion that the Chili served to me smelled and tasted just like Hormel Chili. And, no ... I did not like it. Even with all of the above, our overall experience was good, the food was good, the establishment was clean and the employees were friendly. I would encourage everyone to check out this new Salad, Soup and Sandwich eatery.

Newk's Eatery is a great option for the area. We decided to dine there after other restaurants had an hour wait in the area. It was nice because we were able to order our food as soon as we entered. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. We ordered a BBQ chicken pizza, Steak sandwich, Chicken sandwich, Roast Beef sandwich, and a Po'Boy. The food arrived within ten minutes which was great because we were hungry. The pizza was ok. I am not a fan of sliced chicken breast. It reminds me of lunch meat. That was a little disappointing. The pizza was also lukewarm. My steak sandwich was well done. Pieces of the steak were tough. My husband did enjoy his Roast Beef sandwich and my friend did not mind the sliced chicken for her sandwich. The Po'Boy was not tasty. I would not recommend it at all. The side dishes were a nice treat. My pasta salad was tasty and so was the mac 'n cheese. Overall it wasn't a bad experience and it wasn't good. I will try Newk's again but unfortunately it will not be my first choice with so many other options.

One day during a dental cleaning, my dentist raved and raved about this place. I had been curious about it, but did not realize that it had opened. So I decided to visit, and I expected that the food would be good, but not that it would be so amazing. Everything tastes super fresh and every thing is delicious. I've had the soups, sandwiches, pimento mac and cheese with bacon ... all outstanding. Even the pizza is good (definitely better than nearby Coal Fire). I told my parents how good it was, so they tried it and started going multiple days in a row. They say that the salads are also very good (I've seen the salads and the portions are large). The only thing I wasn't too excited about was the slice of pineapple cake I had. The cake was super moist and tasty, but the icing seemed to be a basic confectioners sugar icing. I expected more, but I guess some people may like that. The staff is super pleasant and the restaurant is nice, clean and attractive. They seem to do great business, but it also is pretty quiet. For what it is, definitely 5 stars.

This was my second visit here. And this week at that. For the second time I had the Ultimate salad with ranch dressing. The salad is huge. I ate there this time since I had company. This time they mixed the salad dressing in the salad which I wasnt really fond of but oh well. The salad was still good. I am a glutton for punishment so I also tried the macaroni and cheese. It was cheesy but it didnt have much flavor. Dont think I will be letting that again. The outdoor seating was cool. I asked for water expecting to pay for a bottle but the girl handed me a nice size courtesy cup to get water from the water container. There were fresh lemons to add as well. Overall it was a pleasant experience. I will be back.

Second rate Panera. 2 stars because the cashier was very rude and the take out order I received was wrong, probably because the cashier was so disinterested. The order wasn't just wrong as in putting mustard where there should be mayo, they gave me the completely wrong item. Very busy and confusing process.

Wow, nice find in Waugh Chapel! I'm not one to review chains that often, but as I wasn't aware this was a chain to start with, I figure I can approach this one from a new light as if it were a mom & pop place. But, it was important to know (imho) that the chain started in Mississippi, so you have some idea of the origins of the menu. They are a southern-deli fusion, if I had to give them a category. Think Panera meets the bayou, and you're getting there. One of the sides is a black-eyed pea salad, for instance, and they have a very delicious shrimp po'boy on the menu. I ordered the Royal sandwich (turkey, ham, roast beef, salame with fixings on a baguette) with the Pimento & Bacon Mac n' Cheese as my side. The sandwich was very flavorful (the Creole mustard really makes it), and while it could have used a touch more meat, there was plenty there to create a wonderful flavor all around. The mac-n-cheese, though, was simply superb. I only with the noodles were a little less cooked. Still, the flavors overrode this textural mishap, with just a twinge of spice and a very deep scope of flavors. My cohorts had the aforementioned po'boy with a loaded crab soup, both of which were really dang tasty, and the steak sandwich (a cheesesteak by some linguists) with a side of the four-cheese mac-n-cheese. My mac was better ;) but hers was still quite good. And the steak sandwich was not without some great taste, too. I love that all of their sammies come on the baguette bread. I'm a fan. Overall, very delicious, very fresh, and very much worth a repeat visit in the days ahead. I'm also willing to overlook the initial overcooking of the macaroni if they settle down on that front. After all, they've barely been open, so I can't in good faith give them too much grief just yet. I might have to amend my review upon future visits. Enjoy!

Menu had a weird selection, but once I decide to order it was good. Got the BBQ chicken sandwich. Salads are huge! Will give it another shot.

The food is good BUT I've gone here twice for carry out and they got my order wrong both times. The first time I ordered a sandwich and ordered the sauce on the side. They put on extra! The second time I ordered no cheese and they left off the cheese AND the pesto. Someone in the kitchen isn't paying attention. I made sure the cashier recorded correctly. If you go here make sure you thoroughly check your food. Don't just look inside the bag. Go through everything!

Options are great! I love the shrimp pro boy, shrimp salad and pesto chicken. These are the three items I've had the three times I've been there in 1 week's time. I can't get enough, I love love this place!

We came as a group for lunch. Items enjoyed were 3 pizzas, the shrimp po boy, pimento cheese and turkey sub. We too tried the mac and cheese and chicken noodle soup as sides. The walk up and place your order system seemed to work well, but I felt bad there was no place to tip other than cash. No gratuity line was available on the check and I don't carry cash. The food came fairly quickly though as we were in a group, trickled to the table as the number placards were removed. As service stops there, we had to make 3-4 trips back to the counter to get, soups spoons, a plate for sharing, hot sauce and cheese etc. The pizza crust was nice as was the sauce. From there it depends on your choice of toppings. Pepperoni good, sausage looks like cat food. The spicy chicken pizza was good and spicy. As for the subs they were mixed. Turkey good but not inspiring, pimento cheese was served hot but the cheese was difficult to locate. The shrimp po boy sub was the pick of the litter, but in no way a po boy. The po boy was really a shrimp cocktail sub. The sub bread was very good. As for the sides, mac and cheese was flavorful but over cooked. The soup was generous and high quality. I think with a few visits you would figure out what to have and how to get it. But be prepared to get some poor to uninspiring dishes along the way. My tip - sit close to the counter to shorten your trips to find what you need.

The barbecue chicken pizza was delicious! My husband really liked their pepperoni pizza. I would've given 5 stars, but their iced tea was just okay. Friendly and fast service!

Went on 11/10/14 and I must say for my first experience it was top notch. The customer service was superb. The owner of this location was very helpful in answering all my questions and allowing me to sample the pasta salad and the corn and crab chowder prior to purchasing. I got the Royal sandwich and that and the corn and crab chowder was delicious! The soup and sandwich combo left me very. I definitely would recommend giving Newks a try!

Mediocre. I need to try it again before I make my final declaration.

Great food. I was going to take a picture but I ate it all before I could get my phone out. Way more food than you could get elsewhere for the cost! Very enjoyable atmosphere and very nice people!!!

It was ok. Pizza was nothing fantastic. Caesar dressing was flavorful with garlic. One of the better caesars around. Mac n cheese was okay. Not really my type of menu, but I liked the overall feel of the place.

Good atmosphere, relaxing, and quiet (wasn't busy). I got the shrimp po boy and the pepper jack and crawfish soup, it was delicious! I highly recommend for those who enjoy seafood to get these items!

Love Newks! Interesting eclectic spins on sandwiches, pizzas and salads. Always fresh and delicious, delivered quickly! Bright and fun atmosphere. Could improve on desserts, which are refrigerated (ugh) cakes. All in all, a great spot, one of our favorites!

First time trying Newk's, won't be the last. Excellent service, nice atmosphere, and the food was incredible. One of the few places in Maryland serving capicola, and other Italian meats, toasted on a sandwich. Come hungry, leave satisfied.
(5)Erin W.
The salads here are delicious! Make sure you try the croutons. I've brought three different people here since Newk's opened and they all enjoyed it and planned on returning.

Came across this place coming through Gambrills area. We were about to go to Chikfila but opted to try this place. There was an array of things on the menu from soup and salad to poboy sandwiches to pizzas. You order at the front counter and they bring the food to your table. All looked amazing but we decided on the soup and sandwich combo. The tomato basil soup was delicious as was the veggie and chicken sandwiches. Staff was very friendly and manager walked around interacting with guests. It blows panera bread out of the water. Quality food, plenty of seating and a nice place to dine for lunch or a casual dinner. Try it and you won't be disappointed!

Overall 3.5 stars! Will definitely be back soon! Newk's is somewhat similar to Nando's Peri Peri when it comes to ordering and seating arrangements, you pick where you want to sit, go up to the register when your ready to order and the cashier will provide you a number, the rest is pretty self explanatory. I ordered the grilled steak sandwich with a side of coleslaw. The grilled steak was great! the bread wasn't soggy, there was a good even amount of all ingredients, and the amount of salt was not overwhelming. There was actually a kick of sweetness(probably from the caramelized onions) which I liked. The coleslaw went great with the sandwich, I actually put some coleslaw in the sandwich ( highly recommended!). For two orders of the grilled steak sandwich with 2 sides and 2 bottles of water it came to about $19 bucks, for $19 bucks I do think that the sides should be a bit bigger but its no big deal, will definitely be back to try their other sandwiches, they also have pizza, soups, and salads.

Enjoyed our first trip here immensely. Got the steak sandwich with Mac and cheese. It was all tasty and well-prepared. While my portions weren't huge my friend's cup of soup was very large. Will definitely be back to try more from this new eatery.

Excellent food, went with my family on a Saturday afternoon. We tried two different sandwiches, two different salads, the mac and cheese, and the mushroom bisque. Uniformly wonderful. The best condiment/topping bar l've ever seen. Very prompt service. My parents both have special diets, and found delicious meals that fit their needs. I definitely recommend Newks, and will be back again.

First visit and nice place! Friendly staff, decent portions although kids portions a little small. Wife, 2 kids and be ate for under $25.00 not bad.

Great place. Food is high quality and delicious. Staff is friendly and the layout is nice. Steak sandwich with prov onions and horseradish sauce is amazing. Veggie sandwich is great also. Good cole slaw as well. I would recommend.

What a pleasant surprise! It's a hopped up Panera with pizza to boot. I had the Newk Q sandwich and chili. Very good on both counts...Party of 3 and everyone enjoyed. Cool condiment bar, and great ice tea. Sat night visit was busy but food came out quick and staff was quick to check on things. They've been open for 3 weeks and I was expecting the usual growing pains, but nothing! Very attractive dining room too. Will be in the rotation for sure...

I tried Newk's with my husband and my friends. I had a different experience from the other reviewer. There were good and bad things about the restaurant. We went Friday evening at 6:30pm. I ordered mac and cheese, but was informed they were out of it, so ordered a combo instead - - half a "Simply salad," and half of a turkey sandwich. The salad was supposed to have balsamic vinaigrette dressing, but I couldn't taste it. Most of the salad was extremely dry. My husband ordered the same salad, said his also was too dry, so he got up and put oil and vinegar on his. The cucumber slices were not fresh. Were soft and slimy as if cut a long time ago and stored in a too cold refrigerator. The salad also had grape tomatoes, various greens, grated cheddar cheese, croutons and one tiny round slice of a carrot. I only got the one piece of carrot. My husband didn't get any carrot. My half of a turkey sandwich wasn't what I expected. But maybe I expected too much. It was okay. Could have been better. The turkey meat tasted like processed sandwich meat. Guess I was hoping it would be fresh turkey. I couldn't see the turkey until I removed the sandwich top. I saw cheese and at first thought they forgot the turkey. The piece didn't even cover the inside of the roll. It was about half the size of the roll. Maybe they ran out of turkey and that's why it was such a small piece. But they should have told me, so that I could have ordered something else. Nothing was special about the food. Nothing to draw me back to Newk's. My husband and friends got the Italian sandwich and thought it was okay. Said they got enough meat. One friend liked his Greek salad and tomato soup. The serving staff was very friendly and didn't rush anyone to leave. But the food did not impress me. They must have been running out of food and since there are other places nearby with soups, salads, pizza and sandwiches, we might not go back to Newk's to give it a second chance.

Pretty solid first experience here. Best described as a slightly more high end Panera competitor, with a little quirkier menu. They have a nice toppings bar and bring you your food to the table. The sandwich I had was fine and my wife liked her salmon salad pretty well. I'm sure we'll be back sometime; it wasn't leap out of your seat good but a decent lunch for three for about $30-35.

A very pleasant dining experience. Handicap / wheelchair friendly. We stopped by to thank the manager after our meal.

Great food and great service! All I got was a salad but it was filling! It was huge! Not at all was I expecting! And my fiancé got the grilled steak sandwich. He said it was delicious. Without a doubt we will be back again. I can't wait to try other things they have!

Newk's has a nice setup and a good selection on the menu. I ordered a turkey sandwich which was decent, but it's hard to ever have an amazing turkey sandwich. Unfortunately my wife's pizza looked and tasted like something from a microwave. If we avoid the pizza maybe we'll give this place another try.

This was our first trip to Newk's. Saturday around 12:30PM we entered the restaurant and quickly realized that this wasn't a server/hostess driven eatery. The menu is on the right wall is large, easy to read and the soups of the day are easily seen. Although if the restaurant is crowded, it will be hard to read. I had the Turkey Breast, hubby had the Italian. Note to those who do not like mayonaise driven spreads - ask for yours on the side. We both had the coleslaw with our sandwiches. It was ok, however, I would have preferred to have had chips instead. Hubby did not care for the spicy creole mustard and he's a "mustard on the sandwich" kinda guy. We liked the 'add-ons' of bread-n-butter pickle slices, jalapenos, and there were croutons, cheese, etc. to add to pizza or salads. We will visit again, however, this will not be a "oh gotta have that" destination for us. Two sandwiches and two fountain drinks ran us $20 total
