Had pull pork sandwich special. Sandwich and two sides with Fountain drink extra large $9.99. The pork was really moist and lean. Macaroni and cheese and baked beans are some of the best I have had at a barbecue place. And staff was very friendly and helpful. And to make you feel like a kid after your meal they have a self-serve custard ice cream machine where you make your own cone!

I have given this place multiple chances to prove my first experience was an anomaly. Fail. Ribs are consistently dry and over cooked. Far from fall off the bone. Best items I have had include the pulled pork and a few of their sides. Ribs are terrible and inconsistent. I'm done.

This place is the real deal. First, let's address the fact that their pulled pork is smokey and moist - the best I've had in Maryland. The brisket and ribs are just as good, but I'm a pulled pork girl so that's what I get. Next, they back up their delicious barbecue with a cast of amazing sides. They have fried okra. Do you know how rare it is to find okra on a menu around here? Okra is the realest southern veggie and, to me, cements Dickey's status as the best around. They also have creamy mac and cheese, spicy beans, and tangy coleslaw. Then, as if I wasn't already in a food coma, they give you free soft serve ice cream at the end of your meal. I barely made it through this review without a nap. Seriously, go to Dickey's.

I love Dickey's. Not happy that they do not have baby back ribs but the way they do St. Louis ribs is just right. I usually have my ribs with the sauce on the side and dip them in when needed. The first visit to Dickey's was actually in Texas. I loved there ribs and was shocked to see that there was one that was close to me. When I got back from Texas I went to Dickey's and have been going back ever since. I highly recommend this establishment if you have a taste for BBQ ribs. I've come to the conclusion that advertising BBQ is a great marketing ploy. You know why? A lot of people are inclined to try a BBQ joint at least once and if it's good, they may be on to something. Operative word: G-O-O-D. Is there a more hit or miss cuisine at restaurants than BBQ? Dickey's Barbecue Pit is located in a nice little shopping center in Gambrills, which is a couple minutes from Bowie. It's a few doors down from Brewster's Ice Cream shop. The decor is basic except for the flat screen tv and the sports posters. A unique touch that they incorporate is an ice cream machine, which is free to indulge in. Turns out that the ice cream machine actually makes soup because it melts instantly. Service is basically ordering and paying at the counter. The menu is a little confusing and the wait staff probably gets tired of having to explain how to order whatever you want. Regarding the food......SWING AND A MISS! I ordered the beef brisket meal that comes with the choice of two sides (I chose mac & cheese and fried onion wranglers) along with a pickles and a roll. The brisket was somewhat tender but lacked seasoning. The BBQ dipping sauces were weak and watery. The fried onion wranglers were Dickie's version of onion straws/rings. They weren't amazing but decent. The portion size is pretty generous....probably because it's a pretty inexpensive product. The mac & cheese was a fail. It was basically mac & cheese soup. At least there was a little bit of cheesy flavor. Prices are a little inflated considering the food quality. All in all, Dickie's is just another BBQ poser. I've read that they're actually a national chain so hopefully their other locations make better food than this spot.

Disappointing.Tried this place numerous times and they just don't have it when it comes to bbq.The brisket is always dry and the pork doesn't leave much to be desired.

Dickey's is Excellent. Friendly staff, 20% military discount, they sell beer and have fabulous barbecue. Ribs are great as are the vegetables and baked potato. All of their meats are great and they have free ice cream. Go now!!!

This place has some really Good BBQ and for a really nice price i have no complaints and really like it. So why the 3 star rating? Its because of the asshole manager that runs the place and the smart ass comment he made to me and the rest of my party. I was waiting in line looking at the menu. They have a free ice cream machine here so while i was waiting i decided to have some free ice cream. The manager siting at a table saw me and in a real degrading way. Really loud (embarrassed me) im going to ruin my appetite and i should eat my food first. (my response was excuse me and i was about to have it out with him if he said anything else but he didnt). So i found out through the word of mouth that this place has a issue of people going in there taking ice cream and leaving. Ok what ever. But this guy saw me in line with my money in my hand reading the menu this was uncalled for. I can eat my ice cream anyway i want to first or last i got a meal there! I will still eat at this place it is very yummy but that little stunt the manager did earned him 3 stars when it would of been 4 or 5. (This will not stop me from having ice cream first either anytime i go here i always have ice cream before and after my meal)

I always enjoy my trip to Dickey's. I've never had "authentic Texas" or any other style of barbecue, as some reviewers have mentioned, so I am judging this place solely on what it is and the food it offers versus the expectations of what the food should be. I kind of have the same gripe about the battle between "real mexican food" or "true Chicago/New York pizza" etc., that sometimes overwhelms the yelp reviews. I'm no expert, but if you're in a chain restaurant in Maryland expecting genuine regional food, you'll probably always be disappointed. Perhaps my standards are lower than others, but all I care about is if the food tastes good, is something more than I could make in my own kitchen and is reasonably priced for the food I receive. On those points, Dickey's wins. I usually get the big barbecue sandwich and make it a combo plate. I have tried the sliced beef brisket, chopped beef, chicken breast and I think one or two other meats, and I usually come back to the sliced beef brisket. The sides are generally good. The onion tanglers have recently changed and I think for the better. The mac and cheese, while always ok, has been inconsistent. Sometimes it is very thin and almost liquid like. Other times, it's thicker. Price is reasonable for what you get. If there is one major suggestion that I would pass along to the owners is to pay a little more attention to trimming the fat off the beef brisket slices. Most of my sandwiches have had large chunks of fat on the end that I have had to remove myself before eating. This seems to be a more recent trend, as I never experienced this in my earlier visits. Kids eat free on Sunday, so I have always experienced bigger crowds dining in and longer waits on Sundays. So plan for that. For those who have a sweet tooth, free ice cream at the end is a nice touch. Can't talk about taste as I personally have never grabbed a cone, but I'm sure it's tasty as few things taste as good as free dessert. Staff has always been friendly. So 4 stars from me.

Have eaten here on Sunday (where kids are free) twice now and it's been enjoyable. You can't beat the free ice cream at the end of the meal. As far as Barbeque it's fine. A little dry but they have a warm sauce dispenser there. The help is ok...you really need to know what you want before you order. But, the price is good and did I mention the FREE ice cream? That alone is reason to take your family there. :)

Hungry for a quick lunch in Gambrills we had to choose between the nearby Five Guys and Dickey's. We thought this was a locally owned place, but, it turns out to be a franchise chain outlet. No matter, our lunches were very good. From the brisket sandwich to the pulled pork our selections were very good. For a quick pick, this place served up a decent lunch, served hot and pretty good on flavor.

Pretty solid cookout food. Dickey's was open Memorial Day, which worked out well for lazy people like myself. We got the Family Pack for four to six people, which is a gross underestimate. It's really suitable for about three grown people (and maybe a toddler, if you want to split hairs about it). We had our choice of two meats (brisket and hickory-smoked turkey is what we got) and three sides (mac & cheese, green beans w/ bacon, and fried okra). Of the meats, the brisket was the standout. The turkey was passable, but I am hard on people's smoked turkey since my grandfather's perfection and the standard upon which I measure everything against. The mac & cheese was fine, but not authentically southern or particularly standout. The green beans were just bad. Seriously. I don't know how to describe them in a more elegant way, but that. Just not good. The okra was great though! Definitely impressive - and I am not even a fan of okra like that. Not bad at all. Overall, Dickey's is great for barbeque. Your sides might be hit or miss, but your meats will be pretty darn good.

I've been here only one other time and it was for a takeout order! That was more than 3 years ago! But I did remember that the smoked turkey was very good! However, a friend and I were hanging out for a early dinner with my daughter and we decided to come in and give it a go! It was virtually empty at 5 oclock on a Monday even, which was cool with me! I ordered a beef brisket stuffed potato that was $7.75 for myself and a chicken nugget dinner for my daughter! Let me start off by saying that I was slightly disappointed that the chicken nuggets were the Dino bites that I already give my daughter at home, but who cares, shes's 4, she ate them and didn't complain! LOL! However, my potato was huge! But for $7.75, I would have liked a lot more brisket in it! It was about 80% potato and 20% cheese and green onions! That was it! I had to ask for sour cream and I even added bbq sauce because it was slightly dry! However, it was a potato! I've had better stuffed potatoes, so it is what it is! However, my friend had the pulled pork! With some bbq sauce on it, it was good! It just lacked flavor! If you just want some expensive bbq, this is your spot! It could be better and I've had better! Its just ok!

Good serving sizes for the money. The atmosphere is a combination of large group tables and western themed wall art. I tried the pulled pork and brisket. I found both were very tender, but lacked flavor. Some seasoning would go far. I also found the meat left a greasy/oily flavor in my mouth. The mac 'n cheese was typical cafeteria style, super cheesy and saucy. The staff seemed nice, but none of them were smiling. All in all, pretty middle of the road fare.

I've been actively avoiding this place because I'm not a huge BBQ fan, but I didn't have a choice but to tag along on a work lunch (i idn't drive). I was concerned that I wouldn't be eating much for lunch considering pulled pork isn't my thing, but I was pleasantly surprised. They had more than just sandwiches, thankfully. They had a side menu that had an assortment of choices, along with some largely portioned salads at a decent price. The atmosphere was pretty comfortable, and it helped that they were showing ESPN on the TV's. The food wasn't anything to complain about, nothing to rave about either, but just fine. The free ice cream doesn't hurt, either. I'd go back here if it was suggested. Service was fast and friendly.

It's hard to find good Texas barbeque in Maryland, but Dickey's does a pretty good job. While this location isn't terribly interesting looking and lacks ambience, the food is reliably good. Go with the brisket (sliced or chopped) or turkey. Both are quite good. Just beware--the chopped brisket can occasionally be a little fatty as compared to the sliced brisket.

My first visit to Dickies & I was pleasantly surprised. First, I must say that the staff was very nice which is always a plus. I got the big barbecue sandwich plate (I chose the chicken breast) with Mac n cheese & barbecue beans as my sides. The chicken on the sandwich was sliced or carved not pulled but it was absolutely delicious AND moist not dry at all. The Mac and cheese had good flavor & the beans did also. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant.

Didn't intend to go here but I was was already in this strip-mall and I was hungry, so I decided to give them a try. Ordered the chopped brisket and the turkey breast. Wow. Both were moist and seasoned perfectly. Definitely a good BBQ place.

I want to give Dickeys 5 stars, but I can't. The interior is spacious and clean, the retro décor rocks, and the staff are very friendly. The BBQ here is utterly delicious! Their meats were moist and succulent and the sides (especially the Mac and cheese) are to die for. And I love my little BIG yellow cup! Why three stars? Two reasons - price and portions. I'm not a gluttonous cheapskate who wants to eat the house and pay nothing, but if I'm charged $15 an entree I'd want to fill full afterwards. Dickeys could generate more business if it offered better deals. One positive side effect of their high prices is that when I ride past them on the way home from the gym I'm not tempted to stop.

I stopped by to try Dickey's BBQ. It was very good. I had the Westerner sandwich with sliced brisket and cheddar sausage. It was absolutely delicious. The brisket had a beefy-smokey-peppery flavor of Texas BBQ. It was tender without being mushy. The sausage was flavorful and had a little spicy kick. With the pickles and sauce, it was a perfect sandwich. The counter service was friendly and efficient. The wall menu a littler overwhelming. The place was clean and well lit. It will be on the top of my go to places in and around the area. It is nice to know that I now have a good little BBQ joint nearby.

We found Dickey's by accident and were happy a new BBQ place was in the area. We've visited several times now with each visit being different. The overall BBQ experience with Dickey's is average. The meats are ok with no special fan fair to them. I like the brisket but it has been different each visit; from excellent to dry like it was yesterday's leftovers. I don't recommend the Texas-style brisket, which is chopped. Both times I've ordered I've discovered they don't remove the fat, which can be quite thick. It's all chopped together and that bite of chopped fat can really turn you off. The sides are nothing to chat about and they have been consistently luke-warm. I don't know about the rest of you but I like my food hot. I don't recommend the dill-creamed potato salad. I had to ask where the potatoes were. It's was 90% dill-cream sauce and 10% pea-sized potatoes. Dickey's does offer free soft-served ice cream, vanilla only. The kids love this part of the visit Overall Dickey's is just an average BBQ joint with average food. The price is good but I believe the meat portions are a bit small. The sweet tea is excellent and the yellow Dickey's cups are large & refillable! I hope you enjoy your visit to Dickey's

To put it bluntly this place SUCKS! One of the worst BBQ places I've ever tried (and I've tried a lot). The brisket, pork ribs and pulled pork were dry and flavorless. The mac& cheese, potato salad and bbq beans tasted horrible. The free ice cream they serve needs to be free because I would've been pissed if I had to pay for it. If this is what people call good BBQ then I feel sorry for them. I suggest you drive 10 minutes down the road to "KBQ Real Barbecue" in Bowie and try some REAL BBQ! You REAL BBQ aficionado's I'm sure will agree with me.

Closest thing to Texas barbecue that can be found outside of Texas. My BBQ standards are high. Dickey's has the basics down.

On the spur of the moment, we decided to hit Dickey's for dinner on a Tuesday with the rugrats in tow. It wasn't terribly busy for the sit-down crowd but the flow in and out was steady. We opted for the Family Dinner with two meats (pulled pork and brisket) and three sides (mac-n-cheese, slaw, and fries) plus 6 pieces of their bread. Drinks rounded it out, we were looking at about $25 if I remember correctly. Then the dude brought the food out. There was enough there to feed about six people (yay, leftovers!). So, extra points for the portions! The meat comes unsauced, but they have heated dispensers for their mild and spicy sauces (both good). The sides (each about a pint) were uniformly good - their slaw is very tasty - but let's talk about the meat. Neither the pulled pork nor the brisket had a decent smoke ring or bark on them. The meat tasted good, and was nice and tender (especially the brisket) but I expect a little more sign that the thing's been smoked. The pork may have come from the inner part of the shoulder, so I can forgive the lack of the two, but not on the brisket! That being said, the food was indeed tasty. I'm being picky, I suppose, especially given that there's not much else to be had in the area. Oh yeah - free pickles and ice cream! The kids especially liked that part. This is one of those times I wish Yelp had a half-star, because I'm torn between 3 and 4. I'm going to go with 3 stars, with the option to bump it up to four on my next trip (and there will be a next trip - must try the ribs!) So, if you want barbecue, and you're in the greater Severn-Odenton-Crofton-Gambrills area, Dickey's is your best bet, hands down.

I'm a native Texan and have been longing for the BBQ I grew up on since moving to Baltimore in 2009. We got a little lost trying to find this joint, but I had heard it was a Texas-based chain, and it didn't disappoint. When I want BBQ, what I'm looking for is well-smoked, no-teeth needed brisket and smoked sausage. Dickey's definitely delivers on these two items, with the chopped brisket melting in your mouth. Its not lean, for sure, but that's the way it should be. The sausage is especially good, with a nice, not overwhelming spice. My wife had the brisket and turkey, and my bite of turkey was equally delicious. Probably most impressive were the sides I had: perfectly crisp fried okra and green beans just like my grandma made. Sweet tea is great too and I made myself a root beer float to-go with the soda fountain and the free soft serve. My only complaint is that true Texas BBQ should come with a loaf of Wonder bread to sop up sauce and make pickle sandwiches. But the rolls are quite good. (No 5 stars, cuz its still no Salt-Lick, Sam's Kreuz, or Smitty's. The chopped brisket is billed as Texas style, but proper Texas brisket is sliced thick with an epic smoke ring. Dickey's gets close on flavor and style, but loses a few points on execution and the fact that I'm not sitting on a picnic table in the Hill-Country with a cold Shiner in my hand.)

I have spent years researching and perfecting Ribs, Pulled pork and Brisket, it is a hobby of mine that I practice almost weekly. I'd like to believe that I know what good BBQ is and is not, and I can not recommend this place for the good stuff. I arrived bright and early as soon as they opened, to get the food as fresh as possible. After-all, a real BBQ joint should have started their smokers early that morning, to serve it until it runs out. That is the ONLY way real BBQ should be served. I ordered a sampler plate of brisket, ribs, collard greens and baked beans. Nothing stood out as great, matter of fact I was put-off after just one bite of the ribs. They were over-cooked, mushy and had zero smoke or dry rub flavor. The meat fell off the bone with ease, and let me be clear here - when meat, especially ribs - falls off the bone, it is OVER-COOKED. This is not something anyone should desire when eating Spareribs, maybe baby-backs. The brisket was flavorless, and obviously not fresh. It was most likely re-heated from the previous day and it showed. It was dry, no bark, no smoke ring, no juicy collagen dripping on the plate, it was sad. No amount of sauce helped cover this fact. The collard greens and baked beans were probably from a can and re-heated, no finesse or anything to differentiate it from other places. Maybe this passes for what some people consider decent BBQ, but it was a huge disappointment for me. The establishment on the other hand, was nice, clean and orderly, probably a good place for a family to eat dinner at. The sauces were typical, but nothing amazing.

I really wanted to like this place. It's close to my home in Crofton. They also seem to be good corporate citizens. They sponsor a lot of local groups/schools. So... They got that going for them! What they don't have going for them is good barbecue. The food is mediocre at best. The sides would have been better if they used Stouffers frozen foods. I ordered the Jalapeno Baked Beans. You would think something with Jalapeno chilies in it would have flavor.... Nope! My daughters Mac and Cheese was boring. And the wife had ordered Green Beans with bacon, she said they lacked bacon and tasted as if they came from a can. Let's talk BBQ. I can forgive all of the aforementioned problems if the reason for being was good. But sadly it is not. My family tried 4 separate items. My wife ordered the pulled pork. Her sandwich was without flavor. She described it as boring. My son and I tried the Ribs. Also a boring experience. I prefer to sauce my own ribs as I prefer the flavor of the rub, but they came sauced anyways (my fault, I should have asked for the sauce on the side). I also tried the spicy cheddar sausage. It was the worst think I ate. It was not spicy and the flavor was just plain bad. I'm trying to come up with something good to say. The soda fountain was good! The soda was bubbly and cold. The free soft serve ice cream is a nice thing. And they have excellent pickles. It is a clean, well lit restaurant. But those are not worth going to Dickey's for. If you are looking for BBQ, let me direct you to KBQ in Bowie. It's a bit of a hike, but it's honest BBQ. I've not been to Expressway Beef yet, but you might try that (I noticed they get good reviews here on yelp).

I spent four years living in Memphis, and went into Dickey's hoping for a tolerable BBQ experience. I was very disappointed. My wife and I each had a pulled-pork sandwich. Not only was the pork of disappointing quality, but the sauce was non-existent. The pumper full of sauce squirted sauce the consistency of water onto my sandwich, which didn't help any. The flavor of the regular BBQ sauce from the pumper wasn't very good either. We had a coupon, paid under $10 for two meals, and frankly, we thought that $10 was too much for the quality we received. In retrospect, spending twice that at the Five Guys a couple of doors down would have resulted in a better dining experience. On the positive side, they had sweet tea (brewed), which is hard to find up north. My wife and I decided we're crossing this place off of our list.

We've known that Dickey's has been coming to our beloved Crofton/ Gambrills area for close to a year now after speaking with the owner of their Beltsville location. We have frequented that location several times and have been anxiously awaiting the day of our very own Dickey's. Last night, that day finally arrived. They were in "soft opening" mode last night, which generally means, chaos. Last night was no exception. Throngs of friends, well-wishers and free-loaders showed up for the occassion since everything was "on the house". Please note, if you show up tonight... they will charge you. There were long lines and extended waits for a table, but with all of that aside, the food was fantastic. There are more choices here than the Beltsville location and one major distinction, they have liquor license (Beer and Wine only). I had the pulled pork and sliced brisket, while my Dining Partner in Crime, had the smoked chicken and pulled pork. This is Texas Q, which means it comes unadorned. True Texans will scowl at you for putting a sauce on good smoked meat, but I'm from Kansas City, where sauce is king, so I doused my smoked meat liberally. They have two sauce options, Original and Spicy. They are not dissimilar to a NC sauce, in that they are somewhat runnier than you may imagine, only not as vinegary. They both have a great flavor and work well with any of the choices you may make (Brisket, Chopped Brisket, Turkey, Hot Links, Pulled Pork, Chicken and Ribs). Sides are fantastic. The DPIC had the Mac n' Cheese and Baked Beans. I had the Jalapeno Baked Beans and the Fried Onions. As noted from the other location, the real treat of Dickey's are the rolls. I don't know how to describe them, and I'm sure I don't want to know what's in them (BUTTER, BUTTER, SUGAR and more BUTTER), but Daaaaaamn they are good. Yee Haw! ***CORRECTION: My good friend Venu (Texan) has pointed out that his fellow Texans do INDEED sauce their brisket. My apologies. The smoked meat here does come unsauced, as opposed to a KC Style which would have sauce on it already.

We went to this place because I was craving some BBQ and macaroni and cheese. The food is OK. For fast pace BBQ its OK. The meat is a bit on the dry side and needs the added BBQ sauce to give it some moisture and flavor (or else you will be gulping down that large cup they give you just to get it down. They do give you generous portions of food. You will be getting enough to fill you up. And the ice cream at the end is a nice touch. We will be back, sure.

We stopped in after reading the two previous reviews... I had the beef ribs and my husband had the pulled pork sandwich. The ribs were not cooked to the point of falling off the bone. I actually had a little trouble getting the meat off the bone with any dignity. The meat and BBQ flavor were great as were the backed beans. The buttered roll was a nice touch. My husband was much happier with his sandwich... thought it was much better than Damons, and loved the potato salad. I found out about Dickey's in Gambrills/Crofton from Yelping for BBQ in Crofton... then after following the 'Driving Directions link' on the official Dickey's website only to end up at a closed used car lot... another Yelper gave me real directions! Location: East side of Rt-3, north of Rt-424 in a new shopping center just north of Giant, across from Long Fence and McDonalds. You'll see a martial arts school in the center, along with Five Guys.

What a great place. I love the chicken, DH got the brisket. Both were moist and flavorful. I love the sauce on the side. You could really taste the black pepper in the mild sauce. Sides were wonderful. Loved the baked potato casserole, full of cheese with a sprinkling of scallions. Nice cole slaw. And I loved the sweet tea. The best thing, prices were so reasonable. We ate dinner for less than $20.00. Granted, there isn't waiter service here. But I can live with that. When we were there, on a Friday night around 6, the line to order almost touched the front door. And this was on a Friday of Memorial Day weekend, so I expected it to be slow since it was a holiday weekend. Nope, the place was packed. My only gripe, parking in the shopping center is awful. But that isn't the owners fault.

Free collector cup and free ice cream? you've got my attention! The barbecue itself is ok, jalapeno beans were good and it was more interesting than the other quick options nearby. I'd go again, especially if I was in need of replenishing my cup collection.

Hadn't ate anything since breakfast and it was after 7pm. I was not in the mood for a fast food joint. I wanted something with more substance, so I remembered Dickey's BBQ. I had never been there before but saw the reviews on Yelp. It was 5 of us and there were 2 at the house we needed to feed too. We got the XL-Family meal. We got the ribs, pulled pork and marinated chicken. The sides included the baked beans, mac n cheese, and coleslaw. The meal came with about 6 rolls. Let me say...I was impressed with the quality of the food. The pork was great. Chicken was juicy and the ribs were not bad either. I would definitely go there again and maybe even try something different. Oh..a nice treat too are the free dill pickles! Next time I go, I'll eat in and have a couple of cold ones with my meal. A nice find in the area for BBQ lovers!
