Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Not impressed considering the positive comments from friends. It's a pizza place but options are limited with either 12" or 16" and you build your own pizza at nearly $2 per topping. One crust offered- thin. It adds up to a lot of money for a combo pizza. We brought two kids who had to have their own pizza because they preferred different toppings and personal pizzas and kids options aren't offered. They have a few sauce types- we chose the Signature version that is supposed to be both sweet and spicy but we found to be mostly sweet. Food was hot and fast. Service was responsive. It might fit your taste but we likely will look elsewhere for pizza.

This place is incredibly popular and fills up pretty quickly so try to avoid the dinner rush hour. The pizza is pretty good but I should warn you that the sauce is sweet which I find a bit disconcerting. The trick for me after the first visit was to order the pizza with the spicy sauce which isn't that spicy but that way, the sweet sauce isn't off putting. What's behind the sweet sauce anyway? Good pizza, fast service, reasonable prices. Certainly worth a visit.

I went here on a lazy Sunday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by the great customer service and delicious food options. I ordered the calamari. It comes with sweet and hot peppers in a zesty sauce. It was pretty good and reminded me of the calamari I used to order in Rhode Island. The wings I ordered came with an 8 wings atop fresh dough and smothered onions. I was a bit curious as to who came up with this combination but I think it works. The wings had a Mediterranean flavor and were not greasy as they tasted kind of roasted/rotisserie. For drink options, they do half price on drinks at the bar and don't skimp on the booze as my drinks were robust and made just right. The young lady working the bar (Jennifer) was personable and made sure everyone had what they needed and was spot on with her drink and food recommendations. Prices here are decent and with their specials you'll make out A-ok. Check their website for the various events and happy hour specials. Good place to unwind and watch a sporting event on one of the many televisions they have.

Yum-o! We were greeted promptly by the host who was eager to answer our curious questions on the food. Our server was very pleasant! The food came quickly and was served hot with a smile. We ordered 16 inch pepperoni and sausage pizza with classic sauce and extra cheese. The crust and everything about the pizza screams fresh!! The pizza is served thin and the cheese is a bubbly and gooy (not sure if I spelled this right) but you get my drift. The sauce is slightly spicy, its a subtle kick of flavor with the cheese and ingredients that will have your mouth singing praises. Coal Fire Pizza gets a definite two thumbs up from us. Delicious!!

Once again I had to cash in on a Groupon before it expired and I"m pretty satisfied with my purchase. Coal Fire Pizza is located on the main strip of the new Waugh Chapel Shopping Center. Sort of next to the Panera on the corner. Upon entry, I noticed that this is a rather small restaurant. The seating is up close and personal with your surrounding neighbors (STRANGER DANGER). If it weren't for the music playing in the background, I'm pretty sure I could hear more conversations than the few I did hear. The tables are pretty small, especially if you plan on ordering a large pizza. I was impressed that we didn't have to wait, even on a Saturday night. We ordered wings as a side to go along with our pizza. The wings were baked with salt, pepper and rosemary on a bed of tons and tons of onions and flat-bread. They were rather bland and not cooked long enough in my opinion. We ordered the signature sauce on our pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and sausage. The crust was nice and flaky and the pizza itself was very flavorful. Our server on the other hand, left something to be desired. She wasn't the most pleasant servers I've ever encountered. Glad to know that I can get a decent pie here. Smart location for this type of restaurant because their isn't a pizza restaurant anywhere near me. I just know not to order the wings when I do return!

I would agree with some other reviewers and say that this is probably the best "chain" pizza place out there, but honestly that's about all I can say. There's nothing of note here. It's a very average regular place. There's no flair... nothing that makes the place special, exactly. Lots of artisan pizzas as well as old standards... a bit on the pricey side.

Im from the north east, so im VERY picky about pizza. Because of that, i wouldn't come here again - a 'normal' pizza fan would. I got a margarita w signature sauce. $13 for 12". The sauce was so sweet I had to salt every piece. The crust is done well, crispy but chewy with no soggyness. We also got kids mac & cheese (think kraft - mmmmm); and wings - wack. The wings seem to be made of quality chicken meat but have absolutely NO flavor. $8 for 8 wings. Still flavor was very dissapointing! Got a salad $10 for lettuce, dressing, pecans and bacon. Bacon was quality (not that gross fatty bacon you get in some places)... still with no substantial source of protein $10 is a bit much. They do have a gluten free pizza option. Kids meals (pasta only) are $5 (not including drink - extra $3). Service was fine. They have a clear window for the kiddies to watch them actually toss the pizza - so.thats cool. Noise volume is a bit loud. But the place doesnt even smell like pizza :(

Just because you once ate here and gave it a two star review doesn't mean another visit you can't give them a four or five star review! I came in late afternoon for happy hour and was treated to half price 12 inch pizza and all kinds of drink specials. I was happy to be served by Linda, the bartender because she rocked! Great personality and great service. Two reasons I'll be back very soon... Awesome tasting pizza and my service was great this time. The manager even came around to check on how everything was. Great meal at Coal Fire today!

I've been here twice and I was not impressed either time. The first time I came I ordered the White Pizza. This pizza was basically overbaked, flat garlic bread. It was dry and hard but everyone's pizza was overbaked that night as I saw a lot of people ask for their pizza to be made over. The size of the pizza was good but I thought maybe I just came on a bad night so I showed up again. The second time I ordered the Margherita which was OK. The sauce was sweet which was different but I still wasn't that impressed. Service was a little slow. I probably won't come here again.

The Friday and Saturday night reverse happy hour is marked on the sign for dine in only. Apparently this doesn't include the dining room? Our group was told that special was only available in the bar area ,we decide to stay. The two other couples who were told the same thing left. With only three tables sat in the dining room, seems like a strange move. I have to say our pizza was great. The grilled Caesar was a bust. The service was intermittent and seemed more focused on the staff social area in the back of the dining room then on our table. All in all, we'd have done better off at a different establishment.
(2)Alexander W.
Not Italian, but close for a local 'chain' Ordered the 16" pizza with pep and mush (typical topings), plus 8 wings. PIZZA: The pizza is thin crust (all they serve) but this is close to authentic. The sauce (can select from three options) was spicy yet sweet. The pizza was good. There could have been a better balance of topings and cheese (was light on the cheese). WINGS: Baked wings, not my favorite, yet tasty. Overall, a nice quick local place to grab a bite before a movie ... but not close to authentic. The staff were also friendly, a nice plus.

Well done all around. Had a nice unhurried lunch here on a weekday. I ate a margherita pizza, which was well executed and had a thin crust that was not burned or too crispy - common flaws. Rest of the family had pesto pasta and crab mac and cheese and they both liked it. Portions were a good size. Beer selection is pretty solid. As for people complaining about happy hour, what do you expect? It is busy, as every happy hour has been for the 20+ years I've been going to them legally. We'll be back. Probably our favorite Waugh Chapel food destination so far, and a nice close walk to Kilwin's and the Regal theater which are both also great.

Went there for Happy Hour half-priced pizza yesterday and it was so not tasty. Maybe it was because the pizzas were half-priced, but the toppings were incredibly stingy -- the house-made mozzarella and sausage were so absent -- and the few on the pizza were sliced so thin -- that they were but a whisper on my tongue. Like many, I grimaced when I tasted the house sauce. Again, so skimpy, and so sweet. Ick. Service in the bar was unwelcoming and strange. I felt like I was intruding on the two bartender gals' turf - they did whiskey shooters with two of the patrons and shared their pizza. Not so professional. Both my sister and I requested refunds for our Amazon Local coupons (which we didn't use) last nite after we left. Won't be back - try Carpaccio's on West Street instead. Now THAT is great pizza and elegant service.
(2)Chau M.
Pizzas are very good & fresh. I like the crust & the ingredients. I think they dont need to burn the basil on the pizza though. Chicken wings should be fantastic in the oven but theyre not freshly made. They tasted like chicken made earlier & then warmed up - no need to do that to wings. The Greek Salad was mediocre- lettuce was old & no thought was put into them, which is sad bc they had great dressing & cheese. Lettuce was old & poorly cut - the white rind of the lettuce was in the salad. Salad at that price shouldn't be an afterthought. I hope that they will rethink how they do the wings. In an oven like that, it should be crisp & newly made!!! Why are wings sitting on onions & flatbread?
(3)C K.
Awesome deals during happy hour on their pizza. Loved the spicy sausage and mushroom. Super friendly staff from the hostess, waitress and bartender. Definitely will be returning, especially once it gets warm again and you can sit outside!
(4)Tammie R.
Had a 12 inch Bianco pizza, it was tasty. For the pizza and 2 waters, it came out to a little over $15
(3)Dominique B.
Tried this place because of a yelp deal and because I live pizza. It was mediocre. I liked but toppings were pretty expensive individually. It was pretty crowded and the place is a bit small, seems like you're eating with the people next to you. Right in town center so it was pretty busy, staff was really slow. Would I try again? Ehhh didn't really tickle my fancy nothing stood out.
(3)Haley O.
Love this place! Their onion rings are amazing and their signature sauce is the best pizza sauce I've ever tasted.
(5)Crystal H.
I have been to Coal Fire multiple times at this point and I love it!! The pizza is hot and very delicious! I am not a huge pizza fan either, so this is saying a lot! The service is very good and the young lady who took care of us was extremely nice and very patient with my ranch loving 4-year old! You get to choose from 3 different sauces for your pizza, Classic, Signature, or Spicy! They allowed me to sample the sauces before placing my order for my pizza! I personally like the "Signature" sauce! I ordered a mushroom and sausage on one occasion! I loved it! Very good pizza! It came out in about 10 minutes piping hot! However, most of the food I've had here was good! But pass on the wings! They are lackluster!! I totally loved this place! I've been about 3 times already, and I will definitely be back!!
(4)Peter N.
There is some fantastic pizza here. The restaurant is a little small. We went there on a Friday evening and it was packed. There was a large group of people waiting for a table. It's good for small groups of 2-4, definitely not more than six.
(4)K T.
Really like this place. The pizza is delicious, my boyfriend and I are obsessed with their signature sauce and spicy sausage. Service is pretty decent, sometimes all the female servers get a little distracted gossiping at the front and you have to wave them down, but they're friendly enough and pretty good about keeping glasses filled and whatnot. Food always comes out pretty fast and piping hot. It's always cooked to perfection sometimes with occasional burnt spot but nothing to lose sleep over. The onion straw / rings are super delicious. It's a smidge pricey for a pizza joint, but overall a nice place for lunch or dinner.

After reading reviews and having it recommended by a neighbor, we decided to try this place last night. Wow! Terrible! It wasn't particularly busy (there were plenty of open tables), but service took forever. My drink order was wrong, so I put it to the outside edge of the table to signal the waitress. But she didn't come over until we were done eating and when I told her it was wrong, she told me what she wrote down. Well, that's nice, but that's not what I ordered and I can't see what you are writing... The pizza was good enough, but the prime rib sandwich was terrible! $13 for what tasted like bland cheesesteak meat (not prime rib), no au jus, and guess what - the fries are extra! We actually left 3/4 of the sandwich on the table and took the pizza home (And stopped at a fast food place so my companion could get something to eat!). Btw, the entire 16" pizza was placed in a carry out box that is designed for two pieces of pizza. But no worries! The waitress was kind enough to stack the entire pizza in the box for me so it was soggy by the time I got home.
(1)Lindsay E.
The pizza is just okay. The crust is good but the thing I didn't like was the sauce, way to sweet! My husband got a spicy pasta dish which he enjoyed. The house salad I got was weak, some iceburg lettuce with a couple slices of day old cucumber slices wasn't exactly what I had in mind. Overall I think the place is to pricey for sub-standard Italian. Still waiting to find that gem in Maryland!
(3)Erica C.
Awesome closing time happy hour. Delicious salad and pizza. The sweet and spicy is too sweet for my taste...I will try the spicy next time. Onions rings are untraditional but good as well.
(4)James C.
I went to Coal Fire the other night with my girlfriend before a movie at the Regal Cinema down the walk on Saturday night. We sat at a high top in the bar area. The staff was two attractive and nice women. They were very attentive throughout the the hour and a half were were there. The food was also very good. We got a 16 inch pizza with pepperoni and their signature sauce. Very good service and food. We will go again soon.
(5)Kat L.
I wish there were half stars. Lol. This was my first time eating at Coal Fire as I'm not big of a pizza girl. But I compromised. Happy I did. The sandwich was great as was his Angus burger. Calamari was delightful. Took a star off because the drink wasn't great which was shocking because the bartender was sweet and really cool. Oh well. Still highly recommended.
(4)Jesssie M.
This place is a solid 4 stars in my opinion. I generally agree with previous reviews that the service is lacking. Servers aren't always attentive, and sometimes you feel a bit forgotten. I think a lot of the waitresses are working in a restaurant for the first time here, and you'll notice the growing pains. When it's all said and done, I will forgive someone who is trying. However, I did have an experience with a superbitchy bartender that I don't forgive because being rude to people sucks. The décor is nice, and the outdoor seating area is great for the 2 weeks of spring and fall Maryland gets. The place is kept clean and sanitary. The food is awesome. I'm not a pizza fan by any stretch, but I LOVE their thin and crispy coal fire pizza. You must try the signature sauce--it has a little kick to it and is spicy and sweet. MMM! I can eat the pizza plain (usually I consider this a mortal sin) or with banana peppers and pepperoni. The "Ring of Fire" pizza is also great, with spicier sauce and peppers. The baked wings are really yummy-- a little different than your typical deep-fried wings, in a good way. The meatball sub is SOOO satisfying. Finally the Greek Salad is perfection. The ingredients are perfect proportions, the dressing is tasty, and with grilled chicken on top, it makes a meal. Bonus--it comes with a crunchy toasted piece of bread to soak up any dressing left behind.

While I enjoyed my pizza, my girlfriend's was disgusting. She ordered the make your own, where she added meatball and pepperoni. The sauce was ridiculously sweet. Our waitress was a huge turnoff for us. After we ordered our drinks she stood there and began laughing HYSTERICALLY. We stared at her and she went "sorry, he was making me laugh" pointing to the host standing behind us at the host table. Left a bad taste in our mouth- I almost got up to leave. Don't know if I'll be back, but my pizza was good enough to try it again. Nothing special about this place. Boring atmosphere, way too dark, but a few decent pizzas (and not so decent).
(3)Darrell K.
Thin and crispy is the best way to have a pizza. Just go to Italy and you'll see what they do. Unfortunately, it's not Italian. They got the thin part right, but the crust is not that crispy. Sauce is a little spicy and very sweet. They don't hide that from their menu. I was surprised that I liked it. Meats were perfectly cooked, crispy without being greasy. Oven bricked cooked. Except for the crust, pretty good. I'll probably return.

OH. M. G. this place has perfected the pizza! (& if your a fan of Joe Squared - not saying they are comparable but they both do custom-like pizza - then you will like this place. It's more dine-in chic than Joe^2 tho...) Location: Crofton shopping center, which is newly built and still adding stores/undergoing construction. Atmosphere: Not a huge restaurant, but accommodating enough for a full crowd without causing an extreme wait, which I think is smart! go crowd control! Staff: Our waiter was friendly and helpful, she asked if we were first timers and explained the menu to us in plain terms without dragging on. The runners who brought out the food, were also helpful. Drinks: They have some good happy hour deals and the drinks were strong. No need for more than one round. I can hold my liquor but this place did one cup justice... Food: Crab Mac&Cheese from the appetizer list - The mac&cheese was rich (as warned by the waiter, so it def has to be shared among 2 ppl. You cannot eat it alone or you will line your insides with so much creamy goodness, you wont leave the toilet. I'm just saying...) and amazing! Never had a seafood mac so good. Pizza w/ Signature sauce - The signature sauce is a bit sweet, which made me pick that style in the first place (out of 6 styles) and I was happy. Pizza was on the thin crust side, but I like that, and it was made right there in the coal brick oven. I took some home and ate the next day as leftovers and it was STILL amazingly good. Now thats how you know you've got some good pizza. I will definitly go here again! No doubt.
(5)Leonard H.
A large group (30+) of us held a retirement party here this evening. The place was great! Plenty of parking in back. Very friendly staff. Our server, Brittany, was super! Very helpful and friendly. Onion rings and wings were very good. Pizzas were great. Iced tea was good. Brittany's sister also helped and was very nice. Never had to wait for drinks or food. Wonderful service and great food.
(5)Tracie B.
This is usually my go to spot for pizza. I like the sauce. I always get it to go and the pizza is a big hit at home. Today the pizza was dry ...tasted hardly any sauce ...pulled back some of the cheese spots and you could barely see a trace of sauce. This is the first time in about 10 visits that I have been disappointed with the pizza. I also ordered calamari and a Greek salad ...they were both good.
(2)Heather M.
Love the pizza here! The crust is perfect, thin and crispy just how I like it. I kept it simple and chose their spicy sauce and pepperoni. The combo was great, I really enjoyed the spicy sauce. They had limited beers on tap but I was able to get a nice IPA in a bottle. The atmosphere is pretty casual, which is what I would expect for a pizza place. Overall it was a good experience.
(4)Steve C.
Was the first time we have eaten here, really enjoyed the food and the service. The Pizza was really good and our sides as well. We will definately visit their again, also left some more information under the tips.
(5)Joe T.
The spaghetti and meatballs were terrible. The sauce was too tart because they didn't use any parmesan cheese, and the meatballs had the texture of sawdust. The spaghetti itself was overcooked. I didn't give it one star because the wife likes their pizza.
(2)Bob C.
We've been to Coal Fire a half a dozen times in the past two months. The pizza never ceases to surprise the classic sauce taste is perfect, never too spicy or sweet. Always served quickly and piping hot. Service is quick and with a smile. I had a salad that was soggy and soaked with dressing. This was the first and only Caprese (sic?) salad I've had and I'm not going to take the chance again. Really love their pizza.
(4)Riley C.
Best pizza in the area. Coal Fire's special sweet and spicy sauce is unique and delicious. The crust is thin and crispy and always perfectly cooked. You get just the right amount of chat from the coal fired oven. It's reasonably priced, top. My wife and I can usually get in and out for there for under $30 after the tip and that's including a beer or two for myself. The service is great. The waitresses are friendly. The decor is warm and inviting and the music is usually low and contemporary. I've never heard them playing inappropriate rap or anything like the other reviewer said, and I go about every other week. I definitely recommend Coal Fire to anyone whose hankering for some great pizza.
(5)Gia J.
Great happy hour! 1/2 off 12-inches pizzas, $3 well drinks, $3 Blue moons and $3 miller lights. If you miss the 5-7 happy hour Monday-Friday it happens again from 9-11 and the bar. Great pricing and great service! Definitely a go to spot for me and my friends when we want to have good food, good drinks and not spend a lot of money!
(5)Joseph L.
The atmosphere was cool and the waitstaff attententive. I got the Cajun shrimp sub. I was a bit underwhelmed by the lack of shrimp. The aioli sauce was great , but the star if the show was a bit shy. Also, my first bite hit a cold shrimp and that was weird. Other than that, the pizza was good and a 12" can certainly feed two people. Beers are a bit pricy. I'd suggest happy hour that lasts til six.
(3)Nikki B.
I call this restaurant the Matchbox of Maryland (Crofton) . I love Matchbox restaurant located in DC & Bethesda which is known for their brick oven pizzas. The pizza at Coal Fire was fresh and delicious. I ordered the Margherita Pizza w/ Pepperoni, Smoked Onions and Mushrooms. Also a must try is the Coal Fire salad (Yum!) They have great Happy Hour specials starting at 3pm for 1/2 off all Pizzas and $3 on selected Wines & Beers. You gotta love that!
(4)J J.
This is actually our go-to pizza place. We love the signature sauce and usually stick with 2 or 3 toppings. It's not cheap, but we like the brick oven pizza they have.
(5)John G.
Its a pretty good pizza joint, I am not a huge fan of the wings, but I am sure there are others that enjoy them. When it comes to wings, I am old fashioned I suppose. Its a little pricey for the product in my opinion. The dough is nice, they just dont put a lot of toppings on, I guess since its so hot and the dough is so thin that they have to use minimal toppings to make sure it cooks through......
(3)Piper M.
Thankfully the food is great. However, the waitstaff sucks. I know this is not your life long career, but YOU chose to work here. Have a personality, be friendly and for gods sake, run a brush through your hair
(3)Rick W.
I really loved the pizza. I just had a plain cheese with their traditional sauce and it was very good. Nice, crisp thin crust, not overcooked. I wasn't thrilled by just about everything else. I tried their wings, a chicken sub, a steak sub, and spaghetti and meatballs. Understuffed subs with little flavor, the wings were ok, but, came late, and the spaghetti was average at best with "homemade" meatballs that were nothing special. I'll go again, but, stick with the pizza
(3)Hope L.
Let me tell you!! When you go to this place you need to be prepared to loosen up a belt buckle, pop a button or something! This is one of the new spots coming up in this wonderful location. They fit in PERFECTLY just like there pizza!! I ordered the pizza with Prosciutto and it was simply delicious! They have 3 sauces to choose from for your pizza I got the signature sauce...OMG it was mind blowingly good. I got the small one and almost ate the entire pizza and that is rare for me! I mean I love to eat but almost crushing an entire pizza is unheard of for me. lol Ok, now let me tell you about the wings. It's like they bake them and then char them with the perfect amount of char which locks in that yummy charred goodness taste :-) Mine were a little over-cooked BUT they were still good! Oh! and they put caramelized vidalia sweet onions on top the wings and the wings and onions are on top of this yummy pita bread *mouth watering* I ordered a strawberry mojito...it was ok. A little too syrupy for me but I usually don't order mojito's so don't knock it until you try it. Check it out if Mojito's are your thing; I'm going for a Margarita next time and will update you on how that went ;-) Last but not least the customer service was steller from the moment I set foot in the door. From the hostess to my waitress KUDOS! Keep up the great work ladies!! Bottom line RUN FOREST RUN...RUN STRAIGHT TO COAL FIRE PIZZA...
(5)Elaine S.
Love the pizzas because of the crust - it's thin crust, not too thin, but not thick. I like the pizza sauces, my favorite is the signature, which is a blend of the classic and the spicy. They have very good dine-in specials and happy hour 1/2 price 12" pizza. The draft is $2 at happy hour and select wines are $3. I didn't care much for the wings. It's okay, but they can't top my favorite 'Glory Wings' at Glory Days. Great place for happy hour, pizza, salad and a glass of wine or beer! Good music too and very nice staff & bartender.
(4)Veronica E.
Sorry, this place was really disappointing for several reasons. First, they don't deliver ( come on, any pizza place at least deliver within a 3 mile ratio). Furthermore, they forgot our phone order, they just throw away our paper order ( who uses paper orders nowadays) ... They apologized about the mistake, they tried to make our order a priority since we were waiting there, but once we got the order and got home, the wings and the pizza were way undercooked, For being a new place, and trying to build the business in our neighborhood it was a total fail. I'm confident I would never order from this place again, terrible service
(1)Ric P.
We are a fan of the Coal Fire Pizza over in Ellicott City so were very happy to learn a new Coal Fire Pizza was opening nearby in Gambrills. We have visited this new Gambrills store about 5 times now. The new place is nice, open and you can see the fire hearth. Both my daughter and I love the pizza and all three special sauces. So for us the Pizza is A, #1! Beware ... Coal Fire Pizza is pricey! But worth it!
(4)Valencia S.
Pizza is my favorite food and I think this is my new go to spot. I never liked brick oven pizza but this is GOOD....
(5)Tom C.
DISCLAIMER: This review is very low key. This place is very low key. The pizza, however, is not. Coal Fire makes good pizza. The hand-tossed, thin crust is delicious. Try the Ring of Fire. They also make good salads. We tried three (mixed greens, Greek, and the Coal Fire). All were fresh and well-made. This was our first visit to Coal Fire, and we will likely return. I can't say anything about the rest of the menu, but the pizza is worth the trip. Not a fancy place, and it is a bit pricey for a pizzaria, but sometimes you gotta splurge. I gave the place three SOLID stars because the food is good.

Hands down the best pizza I've had in a good while! Nothing fake going on here, all fresh and made to order - you have to try the signature sauce!! I will be back!!!

Actually our experience here was between meh and a-ok. The atmosphere and decor as others have noted was forgettable. But a place like this doesn't really lose points for that. Brian, our server, was super friendly and full of information. If you don't want to hear the mini speech, just say you've dined there before. Coal fired pizza is not a new fad. All the really old NY style pizzerias have been doing this for decades. The older the oven, the better. The pies looked good as they were delivered to other tables so we didn't even study the menu except to decide the kind of sauce we wanted and the toppings. We went with the classic as Brian mentioned a bit of "sweetness" in the other two choices, and we are not fans of sugar in our sauce. Use good tomatoes and you don't need to add any more sweetness. So the sausage and mushroom pie came out in 10-15 minutes. It did have the marks on the bottom of the crust that signaled it came from a coal oven, but the top was not indicative of that. At Lombard's in NYC, the whole pizza takes on the characteristics of this particular cooking method, complete with perfectly crisp pepperoni slices and nicely browned cheese. The sausage on our pizza resembled pepperoni. Not good. Chunks folks not thin potato chip slices pleeease. I believe a total of two mushrooms were used for the entire 16" pie. Stingy, especially for the price. Apparently they make there own mozzarella in house and slice it for all their pizzas. That's nice to know, but often mozzarella alone, especially certain fresh mozzarella, just doesn't have a whole lot of punch. It's nice to add cheeses like provolone, asiago or fontina to give that component some extra flavor. In the end, it was just ok. If I was in the neighborhood, I might stop in again for lunch, but it is not a place we would make a special trip for.

Food is good , but overpriced for lunch. A 9 inch personal pizza 7.95 + 1$ per topping. Onion rings , although tasty. 3$ to add to a sandwich. My husband said his grilled chicken sandwich was very good. Service was good.
(3)Joe L.
Love this place, service is great, food is fantastic and they carry a better than expected beer selection. Try the spicy sauce with jalapeños if you like a hot pizza. It's thin crust so it's not filling like your average Pizza Hut pan pizza. No reservations needed.
(5)Michael H.
Simply cannot get enough! Best pizza in the area, personal favorite is prosciutto with mushrooms and a classic sauce well done. torn apart between two salads, fields of greens which is a delicious arugula and roasted beet salad with candied pecans and goat cheese. The other would be their grilled Caesar. Simple salad, but grilling the romaine adds a whole nother level of flavor. Staff is always great, Juan the manager always greets as if you're family. For a cocktail id recommend their pomegranate margarita! Perfect drink of sweet, tart, and salty. (The nice coarse salt to!)

I rarely type reviews online but I had to make it a point to review my experience at Coal Fire in Gambrills Md. My roommate and I decided to get pizza for dinner. He suggested Coal Fire and has been waiting to try their spicey sauce and their pizza since it's new to our area. We ordered a large pizza with pepperoni, roasted onions, and sausage. He picks the pizza up and they goofed the order up to begin with. No sausage on the pizza. He drives it home 2 minutes away and the pizza was so cold, onions thrown on top and by far the worst worst pizza I and he has ever had before. A $19 pizza that we both took one bite and tossed it in the damn trash can. We headed out to Mr. Pizza since we both had been there many times and their cheap and overall good pizza. Especially for the price. Not the best, but good. I will never go to coal fire ever again. Ever. It was that bad. Shannon

One of my favorite places to go!!! Everyone is very friendly! And the service is excellent!!! Thanks Ashlee and Jess!!!!

Food was pretty good. Warm Caesar salad was delicious and so was the signature sauce. Outside of that, food was "ok". Restaurant itself is very good in decor and ambiance. I doubt I will be returning due to the staff here. From cooks eating in plain sight while making food, to the overall lack of caring by the staff for their customers, the staff made this experience unpleasant. Train your staff to do more other than congregate in groups and talk.
(2)David I.
Great food, especially the pizza. My wife ordered the rib eye sub, which was delicious. The pizza I ordered was nothing short of amazing. Word of warning, the signature sauce is rather sweet. I personally enjoyed it, but my wife, who prefers her pizza to be savory, did not. The only disappointments I had in this place were the lighting and our server. Our server seemed very short with us, which seemed unnecessary. Not to mention she kept stopping by every minute to see if we picked our meals. The lighting in this place was very low, almost like they're trying to be a date night spot for couples. I realize a lot of restaurants are trying to achieve this look, but for a pizza joint? Really? The food was tasty enough that I would gladly come back here in the future.
(4)Pamela L.
My daughter and I eat here at least several times a month and we LOVE it. The service is great, the music is always enjoyable, and the pizza is THE BEST. The signature sauce is really worth it if you like sweet pizza sauce. All of the ingredients and toppings are fresh and the pizza is not greasy, which I really appreciate. The happy hour specials are amazing, I recommend going during happy hour if you can. The only negative is, the wings are awful, I made the mistake of getting them my first time there, and my daughter and I were extremely disappointed. Other than that, everything we've had there has been fantastic.
(5)Trey-Jen M.
meh is right. i was pretty excited about the pizza, i got a basic pepperoni and anchovy with the signature sauce. crust is good, the rest was not even average. also ordered a margherita with classic sauce, same, crust is good. maybe it can be ordered with no sauce or toppings?! i love all types of pizza so this is unbiased, but will not return and certainly will not recommend. really wanted to like this one
(2)Thomas R.
Pizza was good. sauce was different but tasted good and that's both the signature and original sauces. Although it was cooled in a brick oven it just didn't taste like it. We would come back again it's one of the better pizzas around.

I was actually a bit underwhelmed overall. We had a few strikes against us, though, so to be fair, it wasn't perhaps an ideal situation. Still, that should not be an excuse for lapses in quality or service. Let me explain... It was a Sunday night, late, probably less than an hour before closing if memory serves me correctly. The place wasn't crowded, naturally, so we just went over to the bar area where everyone else was (hostess seated us, she was friendly), watching the Olympics and being quite chillaxed. Apparently, the thing to get there (what both servers very highly recommended... and were presently enjoying as well) was the calamari. You know what? I have to admit, it was pretty darn good! The meat itself was just a tad tough, but barely. it was otherwise fried quite well, and was very delicious on its own. The peppers/sauce it sat in was a lovely compliment, just a touch of heat (careful, there are some jalepenos in there), and a good amount of sweet. Be sure to squeeze the lemon over the dish, as the citrusy acidity adds a perfect finishing touch to the sauce. I would definitley order this again. The entress were the underwhelming part. I ordered the meatball sub, which was actually darn good, possibly the best of the three. The meatballs tasted quite homemade, and quite nice. The sauce was complimentary without being overpowering, and there was a nice bit of cheese melted and toasted overtop the sandwich. The bread was fresh and very tasty. I would recommend this if you're looking for a lighter single-serving dish. We had someone with us with a gluten sensitivity (not an allergy), and she inquired about the gluten-free options for pizza. Our waitress, while extremely friendly, didn't seem to know anything about it, and initially allowed us to order one of the regular pizzas off the menu with a gluten-free crust. As it turns out, the options are actually pre-made and are baked in their own special bags individually. You can choose between plain cheese and a veggie version with spinach, mushroom, and sun-dried tomato. We ordered the latter. The tomatoes were not sun-dried. It was otherwise okay, though; pretty decent given the lack of gluten. Just not what we had been led to expect. The other entree ordered by our third member was the garlic shrimp pasta dish (angel hair, I believe). Okay, you know, the first thing you should reach for after taking a bite should never be the salt. It shouldn't be over-salted either, but seriously. Figure that part out, y'all, if you ever want to serve a pasta dish in your restaurant. You should have this down to a science by now. Anyway, the shrimp were cooked pretty well, but there were only 6 and of medium to small size. I suppose it was otherwise enjoyable, but it wasn't my dish. I also felt like they dashed the top with Italian seasoning before sending it out, which was highly noticeable, and mildly off-putting. Wasn't my dish, though, and it was mostly consumed in the end. The garlic bread accompanying it was nice. Overall, it wasn't an "ideal experience," but I think I would like to give it another go, only next time, order a regular pizza, as that seems to be their strong suit. It definitely was a bit more than it maybe should have been, but the three of us kept it just over $50 with an appetizer and three entress. Not that bad, I guess, especially for the menu at hand. On a very positive note, the server was very friendly, helpful, and bubbly. Maybe a little giddy at times, but you know what? I'll take that versus the alternative. Also, and this note is for Coal Fire, if you're going to cater to gluten-free or gluten-sensitive customers, please exercise a bit more tact. The goofy-looking brightly-colored individually-wrapped pizza cutters are perfect for keeping the gluten away, but kind of draw attention to the fact, and really look like they belong with an easy-bake oven (tm?). Just sayin'...

This pizza is amazing! I have only been here twice, but the pizza is great, the staff is attentive and the happy hour is hard to beat! After my first time in the restaurant, I lobbied the traveling happy hour crew to try Coal Fire last week: they did and loved it! We had the highest turnout rate of any happy hour that we've had in a long time...and everyone was completely lovin' it! Despite our having a relatively big group (about 15 folks), no one ever ran low on libations and there were plenty of pizzas to go around. Did I mention the pizza is AMAZING? :)
(5)Elizabeth R.
We were seated for more than 5 minutes before our server came to our table. She was very versed in the restaurant and explained the "Coal Fire" brand to us since it was our first visit. The pizza was good. The crust thin and crisp. There was no char, as promised in their tagline "Charred to Perfection". It may be that the oven was not hot enough. Our pizza took 22 minutes to reach our table, a pizza fired at 900 degrees cooks in less than 10 minutes. This may have been punishment for not ordering an appetizer, if not I would hate to come hungry when they were busy. The restaurant was about 20% full (5 other tables occupied, only 2 were occupied when we arrived). We had the signature sauce on the pizza, it was okay. I asked for some of the spicy sauce on the side, the server told me it would be cold, she did not tell me it would $1.50 more. The spicy sauce is quite hot with spice and sweet with honey. It also had a taste of jarred basil to it, not to my taste at all, The meats are sliced paper thin (sausage, pepperoni, prosciutto). The Mozzarella was excellent. The balance between sauce, cheese and toppings was spot on. A thin crust can not support a lot on top and still cook properly. I would eat here again. Similar to Bertucci's without the more exotic toppings.

I went here with my gf, and friend, and I liked it a lot. Our waiter gave us feedback on the pizza we got, he was like "oh, it's so good!" etc. and I always love when a waiter is engaging like that, gave me confidence :) My gf didn't like how thin and crispy the crust was, it was a little burnt, but I liked it a lot! I could have several pieces and not feel too bloated from the crust. Probably not the first place I'd go to for pizza, but still really good!
(4)KM S.
We went here on a Friday night with a living social voucher. It was packed--but we were seated quickly. We ordered two 12' pizzas--the Ring of Fire (Zesty banana peppers & Italian sausage complimented by our Spicy sauce and fresh mozzarella provide explosive flavor) and a mushroom pizza with their signature sauce. Both were very good. We like thin crust pizzas and this is one of the best around. We will definitely return.
(4)Sam W.
Review was for the Kentlands Coal-Fire.
(4)Jodie W.
Tried Coal Fire for the first time as carryout (it was a Friday night at 7:30 and crazy busy) and we really enjoyed the cheese and pepperoni. It had a nice thin crispy crust and the sauce was good too. Only issue is we would have preferred a little more sauce on our pizza, but we will definitely go back.
(4)Robert K.
Coal fire is the best, pizza and sauce fabulous, wings are the best around, bartender Ashley is the greatest bartender in md
(5)LISA H.
Service was fine. Nothing bad regarding service, but nothing to write home about. Food was awesome! We tried the pizza and a pasta dish. I thought the pasta dish was pricey, but delicious. $20 for Seafood pasta dish. The flavor in the dish was better than many upscale restaurants. The pizza was great. Love the somewhat thinner crust. Would definitely go back.

I've never had a more horrible pizza in my life. I've never been more dissatisfied by a meal in my life. At first I thought it was just my own fault for listening to my sister telling me they have a good gluten free crust. However my dad got an extra piece of the yummy bread that comes with their salad and scraped his toppings on. Still a lifeless, flavorless pizza - and $16 for a 10" with 3 toppings. Spicy sauce, Italian sausage, roasted red peppers - there should have been some flavor here - NOPE. Then the $5 I was charged for a half cup of pasta w/ olive oil kids meal - no drink or side included. So to review 2 pizzas, 1/2C pasta, 3 drinks, and an incredibly small dinner salad for $70. Go get a frozen pizza for $5, it will be 1 million times better and won't cost you steak house prices. We ate at Texas Roadhouse with an extra adult for only $90 including tip. Eat anywhere else at this strip mall for half the price and 10x the food!

Billed as a family friendly pizza place, Coal Fire has decent pizza at very high prices. The seating is cramped - no way can you fit two sets of drinks and one pizza on the same table and the tables are so close that the servers are always bumping into the tables or patrons. Children are welcome, even if they scream all the way through dinner and run through the restaurant. Service leaves quite a bit to be desired. We were seated with food menus that did not say anything about beverages; when we asked the waitress what was available, she said "we have a full bar" and only after a bit of prompting did she find a stained, slightly damp piece of paper with a list of beers. The wait staff put in appetizer and dinner orders to arrive at the same time because "usually the pizza takes longer". We received not even an acknowledgement of error/inconvenience when our salad and pizza arrived at the same time; the food was all just squished onto the too-small table with barely a shrug when we expressed disappointment. We had the Caesar salad and the Ring of Fire pizza. The salad was grilled romaine with Parmesan, no discernible taste of garlic or anchovy that would make it a Caesar. I liked the char and smoky flavor of the romaine; they did a nice job of grilling. Unfortunately the salad and pizza arrived at the same time (see above notes on service) so the pizza was cold by the time we began to eat it. It was pretty good, certainly heavy on the toppings and spicy as billed. No "char" on the crust, just a basic pizza dough. Bottom line: If you're willing to spend $50 for two and want pizza, I'd recommend Vin909 in Annapolis. Same price, better atmosphere, better service, heavenly (not to mention locally sourced) pizza. But please don't bring ill-behaved or over-tired children; I'd like to continue enjoying my meals there.

Pizza was very good, but if your in the mood for some raunchy hip hop music than this is the place for you. A family pizza joint that Lil Wayne would be proud of. To top it off, the hostess likes to say nasty things about you when you request more appropriate music be played. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!

First time visit was for lunch today for a co-workers birthday. The restaurant is not very big but we were given a nice large booth which had plenty of space for the 4 of us. We ordered the calamari to start and two pizzas. The calamari was tender and had good flavor. The sweet and hot peppers added flavor as well. We got larges for both pizzas: 1. Spicy sauce, sausage, pepperoni, and roasted red peppers. The saucy was spicy and adding crushed red pepper gave it even more of a kick. Classic thin crust pizza and it was solid. Would order this combination again. 2. Classic Margherita which almost seemed like a plain cheese with some basil on top. It did not have the distinct flavor and fresh mozzarella that some other places use on their Margherita. Considering it as a cheese pizza, it was pretty good. I would certainly go back and try Coal Fire again. I might leave off the starter as two large pizzas was probably enough. Prices were slightly on the high side for Neapolitan pizzas. Services was average. It could have been a little bit better for how many people were sitting in the restaurant. Our server was very nice but it seemed to take longer than one would expect given how crowded the restaurant was.
(3)Erick G.
Muy Buono! The pizzas were very authentic and tasty. The fries on the other hand.. You can go ahead and save your money on that. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The environment is kind of tight and extremely loud. It was also very cold where our seats were because of the air conditioning, which was turned on in late December. Besides that. The place is all right. I would return.
(3)Lauren M.
Ate here yesterday and it was just.. Ok. Britney Spears was blaring overhead, along with backstreet boys and savage garden. Not my cup of tea. Ordered an ale and the waitress brought me the right brand, but wrong beer. The pizza was skimpy on the cheese, and the sauce was a tangy sweet. Like I said, overall.. Not my fav.
(2)Marisa F.
I have been to the Coal Fire Pizza over in Ellicott City and I am glad that they have put in a new location closer to me. It's brand spanking new with friendly staff and a great bar. I ordered take out on this visit and sat in the bar and enjoyed an ice cold Abita Purple Haze while I waited for my pizzas to be ready. The bartender was really nice and the music was great. They have a sweet set up there where they can hook up their phones to an outlet in the wall and play music from Pandora or their playlists. I need that in my house. Check it out soon before it gets crazy busy when the movie theater opens.
(4)Janelle E.
My review is based solely on the pasta and sandwiches rather than the pizza. I decided I really wanted spaghetti and Italian Market was being pissy so we opted to go ahead and try Coal Fire since they had spaghetti. We should have dealt with IM. There was a lot of pasta, not so much sauce and about 6 meatballs. The sauce looked and pretty much tasted like tomato sauce out of a can - there was NO flavor to speak of. The meatballs were not cooked all the way through, and what I did taste of them was comparable to if not worse than Chef Boy-R-D. The two pieces of garlic bread that came with it were insanely stale - you couldn't even eat it because it was so rubbery. The boy's meatball sandwich - seeing as how it has all the same ingredients - was not surprisingly awful as well. Whatever you do, do NOT order pasta or the meatball sandwich!!! I'll give it another go for a pizza, but it's going to be a one-time-good deal on that...if it sucks I will forever be done with Coal Fire.
(2)Eliizabeth E.
Not worth it! I really wanted a great pizza place. Pizza was not "charred" but burnt. Also the sauce was way too sweet even though I ordered spicy. I ordered take out otherwise I would have sent it back. Why can't we have a good independently owned pizza shop in Crofton???
(1)Robyn W.
Pizza is very good- not impressed with the wings- greasy and bland/tasteless! Great choices of pizza sauce ( signature, classic, or spicy) however I asked for a side of sauce and the waitress told me it would be cold- weird, but I guess it is what it is. We then get the bill and there is a $1.50 charge for a little cup of sauce that is ice COLD??! If I have to pay $1.50 for sauce, A. It should be warm and B. this is something the waitress should tell you when ordering. It certainly is not worth $1.50... Service could be better- very young staff that doesn't really care....
(2)N Y.
Awesome Margherita pizza; i'd dare say better that CPK's. It was so light and yummy; not too salty, not too flat. Just perfect. Highly recommend it.
(5)Colby M.
First visit to Coal Fire in Gambrills/Crofton, very impressive. This is a place for PIZZA! Thin-crust, excellent sauce, small menu. Their sauce is sweet with a hint of spice that kicks in at the end. For me, has to be at least top 5 for sauces i've tasted on a pizza. Also had the Wings, very unorthodox, not bad but definitely different. Grilled, no sauce, smothered in onions. Solid selection of beers and a very good happy hour. Definitely will go back.
(4)S C.
Not impressed. Super sweet sauce on the pizza. Turkey sandwich was blah and came with pickles as the side. No chips, fries... nothing....4 pickles. so ordered fries and the first ones were old and cold. Next set were hot and fresh and still nothing worth writing about. Wont be putting this into the rotation. I will coninue Pasta Plus for my brick oven pizza needs.
(2)Shatekia M.
Went today for happy hour.. The prices were pretty cheap- 1/2 off 12" pizza and $3.00 rail drinks. There's beer and wine specials as well. I was in the mood for some local brick oven pizza and this place did very little to satisfy my taste buds. I ordered a pizza with italian sausage, red onions, and the spicy pizza sauce. The pizza was more sweet than spicy to me. I'm thinking the sausage was a sweet italian sausage. All in all, i wasn't impressed with my pizza but the service was good.
(2)Mike P.
Awesome place! The servers were great and the pizza was delicious. I found the prices to be fair for what you get. It's gourmet pizza, not Papa Johns. I give this place my full recommendation. I am glad it is in Crofton and look forward to dining there on a regular basis. Trust me the pizza is da bomb!
(5)Jeanne W.
The gluten free pizza isn't on the menu so I ordered the Holiday Turkey sandwich thinking I'd only eat the inside. BIG MISTAKE. The turkey was extremely cold (still frozen?), very dry and totally tasteless. My visions of christmas-like cranberry sauce were, in reality, a very sweet but totally tasteless jelly. There was some lettuce and cheese. The server noted my displeasure but there wasn't any fix offered. To be fair the pizza looked and smelled great and my friend really enjoyed the crabby Mac and cheese. As others have said, the tables are really small especially if you have a pizza. I had to struggle to get out past our neighboring table at the end of the meal. Service was just OK. They really need to pick up their game.
(2)Rob M.
The food is very good and with the one time exception of horrible service, they have always taken care of us. Even then they gave us a free appetizer since we moved to the bar area to actually get service (we asked for a server and still nothing). This was the first bad service in 5-6 visits, so I am chalking it up to an anomaly.
(4)Douglas E.
Good pizza - happy to have this new choice in the neighborhood.
(3)Brett H.
Went here last night while walking around Waugh Chapel. Trying to be a little healthier, my fiance and I ordered salads and sandwiches. The salad was SOAKED with dressing. I guess I should have asked for it on the side. Wow that was alot of dressing. The Turkey sandwich was next and it was great! The cranberries on it made it taste like Thanksgiving dinner! My suggestion would be to make the turkey hot. It was still good cold, though. The service was ok, the noise a bit loud. Not bad for a meal if you are strolling along and need something quick while shopping.
(2)Sue W.
We came here at 5:20 and at 5:30 we still didn't have a server come to our table, yet another group came in and got service immediately. There was only one other table occupied so it wasn't that they were too busy to help us. There were 3 employees at the hostess stand and 4 more over by the kitchen area all standing around chatting. After 10 minutes of waiting we left and went to the Subway next door.
(1)Marie J.
I am not typically a thin crust fan, but this is great pizza. Ask for extra cheese because they go a little light. They don't have any garlic bread or breadsticks, which I thought was odd for a pizza joint, but their homemade fries are pretty good (but eat them quick or they'll get soggy!). Solid 4 stars.
(4)Melody C.
I agree with the first reviewer as it's good pizza at high prices. My boyfriend and I had heard good things about Coal Fire so we went in on a hot afternoon for some lunch. We walked in and were a little confused as to what we were supposed to do - Seat ourselves? Order at a counter? I thought it was going to be the latter. So we walked to near the back and a few people who worked there greeted us and directed us to a table. Ok, so it was a sit down restaurant. Fine, we'd just have to tip someone. Our server, a guy in his 20s was really friendly and made suggestions to us as it was our first time there. We got sodas & the crab mac & cheese for an appetizer (like $13? Eek). It was really good! Understanding that crab is usually expensive, I don't think it was worth $13+, though. The waiter commented he liked putting lemon on his, so we did the same and it was definitely a compliment to the dish. We ordered the smaller 10" (I think) pizza to share. It was plenty for two peoples lunch and we ended up bringing 4 of the small slices home in a box. We got the classic sauce (there are a few choices, spicy being another) with pepperoni, extra cheese and my bf got half anchovy. It took a little longer than desired for the pizza to arrive but it was also really good! I couldn't tell at all it had extra cheese but oh well. I had my worries that I wouldn't like the "coal" flavor but it wasn't overwhelming or horribly smoked or anything. Good pizza! Total it was $35 without tip. Pretty expensive I thought considering the ambiance was just eh and I guess it was just me but I wasn't expecting a whole sit down meal type thing. Alas, it was a nice lunch. The food made my stomach hurt a little but my bf was fine with it. *shrug. I probably wouldn't eat here again because of that fact but it was really tasty food. Try it out!
(3)Heidi M.
I used to go to the original one in Clarksville with my friends for Happy Hour. Service was great, food was always fresh & delish, and the owner knew me and my friends since we were there a lot. The one in Crofton is not as good as the Clarksville location. Too many young/teenage workers who have no idea what good service is. The food is only okay and it doesn't have the same atmosphere as the other location.
(3)Igor B.
I recommend it. It's an eat-in pizza place I want to go back to. Pizzas are thin crust, though, if you prefer thick and chewy like I do. Great beer selection. They do a unique tasting pizza sauce here worth trying.
(3)Freckles M.
The service was good and the drinks we had while waiting for our pizza were nice. The bartender was very friendly and prompt even though she had a bar full of patrons. We ordered a 12-inch pizza with pepperoni and roasted red peppers on one side of the pizza, and pepperoni and sausage on the other side. We noticed when the pizza came out that it did not have pepperoni on it. The manager came over and apologized and asked if we wanted them to make another pizza or if they could simply cook some pepperoni and bring it out to us on the side (free of charge for the topping). We decided for them to bring the pepperoni out on the side. The pizza was "ok" in my opinion, but the atmosphere and service were nice. The sauce on the pizza was sweet with a subtle kick of spice, but nothing really to rant & rave about. Overall, I think we would visit again if only for the bar experience.
(3)D. E.
Me and my GF went here for dinner. And i dont get it. There is nothing special about this place. We got a regular pizza and it was ok. Nothing to brag about. But yet the place was very busy. I did not like it at all. (and i LOVE all kinds of pizza). No thank you.
(2)Michael M.
My wife and I go there about once a month, the pizza is thin, cooked in a brick oven. We order with extra cheese because they don't put much on, I like the sasage toping also. It's a little expesive for what you get, but the pizza is good and the servers are all nice. I would rate it just a little below Bertucci's.
(4)Anne R.
Well, I am never going back. I ordered the calamari appetizer and it wasn't that great. Breading wouldnt stick to the calamari and I asked for the sauce on the side but they poured it on anyways. Didn't offer to bring me a new one either. Furthermore, the pizza was a complete tragedy. Maybe I've been spoiled by Long Island, NY or something but I had no idea pizza could be screwed up this bad. The sauce was the furthest thing from what other people are calling authentic. It is so sweet it tastes like its candied pizza. The spicy sauce is hot, but still very sweet. The crust isn't anything special and reminded me of a ritz cracker. Save your money and.... dare I say it.... go to pizza hut.
(1)Brian M.
Very nice place. Had a pizza with pepperoni that was ok, but the sauce was really sweet. Kinda took me off guard. If that's your thing, it's probably pretty good, but I'm more of a savory type person, so it just wasn't my style. The brisket sandwich with the horse radish was pretty good, but you wouldn't say it, "puts the 'rad' in horse radish," especially if you want to keep your friends.
(3)Vincent L.
The sweet and spicy sauce is AMAZING!!!! I love the fries as well. I'd give 5 stars if they put bacon on the pizza instead of on the side. That bacon needs to go on the pizza!! Definitely the best pizza place in the Crofton area.
(4)R S.
A friendly local place. I sat at the bar had a cocktail and delish Margarita pizza. A must go to place if you live or visiting in the Crofton area!
(4)Dave H.
I loved the pizza. It's expensive like others are saying, but I thought it was good. Has a full service bar. The staff was very friendly. I will return.

Sounds cool and looks interesting from the outside but its taking up valuable retain space. Not sure what people like...maybe its the anthrocite coal and them giving money to a government fund? Or the quiet atmosphere (people obviously don't come back) but the service is ok although they served me cold marinara sauce which costs 1.50 and the manager said its because they didn't want to spoil customers on the weekends they can't serve warm marinara because its too busy...wth? The pizza was flavorless the meats and veggies were sub par considering they get them fresh and locally. The mushrooms were translucent almost...the wings...if you want to call them that were baked with onions and pizza dough...to say someone hit the creativity block is an understatement! Wow...not restaurant grade food and my kitchen favorites should have prevailed tonight! Won't be spending another 41.00 in this place. BLAH oh I think the only thing I really enjoyed was my blue moon beer. Oh and a kids drink here is 2.75 an adult drink is 2.25 what a rip off!

Hmmm what can I say about Coal Fire Pizza. Stopped in after a long day with friends and family for a late lunch / early dinner. Atmosphere was ok, modern design, music playing but not overbearing, ceiling fan could have been turned down a notch. Tables were a bit small. Onto the service. Walked in the door and got seated immediately, however after 10 minutes mauling over the menu the manager came by and observed that no one was really paying us any attention. The manager took our first, and what turned out to be the last of our drink orders. You will have to order French Fries or Onion Rings À la cart, as the entrees come to the party all alone. The onion rings, thou tasty should have been called "The Blooming Mess". French Fries were good. The Italian cold cut was spot on but the Cheddar Cheese Steak and The Marinated Chicken Hoagie was full of thick tough pieces of meat. The Chicken was a bit over cooked which dried it out. Being in a restaurant called "Coal Fire Pizza", I decided to give the pizza a try. 12" Prosciutto Cipolla coal fired pizza completed this dining order. The pizza arrived about 4 minutes behind everyone else's order and was bubbling hot. First bite, sauce has a sweet flavor, with a nice crispy crust. The prosciutto lives above the cheese and was very thick, and dried out, probably due to the intense heat of a coal fire. Wound up eating the whole pizza because it was pretty tasty and the carmalized onions, that were living under the cheese, were the bomb. Sill no drink or the waiter in sight. Helloooo waiter whe are you??? Waiter finally showed up and at this point we just asked for the check, which came to a pretty penny for this restaurant. 3 hoagies, 1 pizza, 4 drinks, onion mess and a french fries will cost you 70 bucks. So we got the check and well you guessed it, the waiter disappears again. The manager hears a small outburst and comes to collect the check. The waiter did make a statement about it being her first day so I can't be too upset with the service. You think a brand new restaurant, trying to make a name for itself would have a little better wait staff. Recommendations to Coal Fire Manager: Thinly slice the prosciutto, add more of it, and put it under the cheese to keep it from turning to prosciutto jerky. Keep the drinks full and pay just a little more attention. Look for another review in 6 months or so.

Don't know about y'all folks but I'm a food connoisseur and the Margherita pizza from Coal Fire is the best you will find outside of NYC. Start with a blue moon and their field green salad and work your way to the 16 inch Margherita pizza. If you're not in the mood for pizza, go with the ribeye or the beef brisket sandwich. Definitely a place I frequent whenever I'm in MD. Best part is that Justin, the manager greets every patron and they do military discounts! I love businesses that love service members :)

(4)LISA H.

Coal fire is the best, pizza and sauce fabulous, wings are the best around, bartender Ashley is the greatest bartender in md

Not my fav.

Awesome Margherita pizza; i'd dare say better that CPK's. It was so light and yummy; not too salty, not too flat. Just perfect. Highly recommend it.

(4)Brett H.
Try it out!

(3)Douglas E.
Good pizza - happy to have this new choice in the neighborhood.
(4)Carrie P.

We had the Ring of fire pizza. It was tasty but could have had more cheese. The crust is delicious. Service was ok, could have been more attentive to my empty drink half way through our pizza that never got refilled. :/

No doubt.

(4)Rick W.
(3)Joseph L.

(5)Nikki B.
(5)Steve C.
(2)Gia J.
(3)Bob C.
(3)Avi G.
Hands down the best pizza I've had in a good while! Nothing fake going on here, all fresh and made to order - you have to try the signature sauce!! I will be back!!!
(5)Thomas R.
Pizza was good. sauce was different but tasted good and that's both the signature and original sauces. Although it was cooled in a brick oven it just didn't taste like it. We would come back again it's one of the better pizzas around.
(3)Art T.
(3)Regina S.
(3)laura m.

Shannon

Other than that, everything we've had there has been fantastic.

meh is right. i was pretty excited about the pizza, i got a basic pepperoni and anchovy with the signature sauce. crust is good, the rest was not even average. also ordered a margherita with classic sauce, same, crust is good. maybe it can be ordered with no sauce or toppings?! i love all types of pizza so this is unbiased, but will not return and certainly will not recommend. really wanted to like this one
