Pretty good tacos. I got their chips and gauc. Their guac is fair, tasted like it was just avocado. I also ordered their tres leches cake which they never put in my bag but I didn't see until I was back in my office. I would probably go back because their tacos we're really good but will be asking for my tres leches cake and not the gauc!

Got an Amazon local voucher so thought we'd try this place. I got a Burrito and my wife got 2 tacos, as well as an order of chips. The burrito was decent but a bit small although it was half the price of the tacos which was plenty of food. The highlight though were the freshly cooked chips which were delicious. All in all not bad at all I'm sure we'll try it again if in the area.

Very good authentic Mexican food! I had the taquitos and felt like I was eating at my mommas house. I loved it! My husband had the breakfast eggs with steak and was pretty good and cheap! Free taco for checking in. That was great!

Reliably good. Generous portions. Lengua and pastor the best. I just get tacos, and stay away from the rice and beans. Inexpensive.

The pork and pineapple tacos are Amazing!. . And I'm not even a fan of corn tortillas. Also, this is coming from someone who just moved from being in Texas the past four years where Mexican street tacos are plenty!

  • Angelus H.

It was decent taco spot. I have a very refined palate when it comes to Mexican food, the corn tortilla was more suitable to the American taste, I prefer the authentic strong Maize taste, but it was still very tasty. The Meats were cooked very moist, I enjoyed the Lengua (tongue) and the beef, over the chicken.....Good Stuff, Good eats....

AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD! I have been going to this little spot since 2007. The only place where I find I can grab a quick bite just like I was in Mexico! I grew up in Mexico and avoid Mexican restaurants because they are mostly "tex-mex" style. Even my parents love this place. I love their tortas, sopes, quesadillas, and tacos! They also have SIX (6) different homemade salsas!

  • Brittany A.

Food is pretty good. My husband is in love with this place. The steak meat is pretty dry, and the burritos are so full of rice I had to pour out most of it to find the bit of meat in the middle. The quesadillas are kinda wimpy. But its cheap and quick and that's why my hubby likes it here.

This is definitely not a place you accidentally stroll into. Sandwiched between a gas station and a liquor store, Taco Bar is easy to overlook. The "decor" is definitely underwhelming given the fact that it is quite literally amount the liquor store shelves and there's about four or five tables in the cramped area. ....but who cares about all that when the food is so good!! Service was also super fast and helpful. The tacos come with a double tortilla and tonnnns of filling so one taco equals two for me. This is what I got: Steak taco - Awesome! I thought it was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Pork taco - I usually really dislike pork but this was soooo good! Whatever the seasoning/marinade was is really good and once again it wasn't dry at all. Chicken taco - I personally didn't like the chicken at all. I was expecting cubed pieces like the steak and pork but the chicken was shredded. The marinade wasn't good in my opinion either. I definitely wouldn't get this again. Chicken quesadilla - Once again, I didn't really like this because I didn't really like the chicken in general. It was also very thin with not much chicken or cheese. Rice - I really liked it, perfect side dish to everything. Refried beans - I usually HATE refried beans but this was soooo good. There's also a little toppings bar to the side where you can add whatever you want to customize your tacos. I wasn't a fan of any of the sauces, they were all really watered down and mostly tasteless. I loved the pico de gallo and I went ahead and overdosed on all the cilantro possible. All in all the food was really great and I got three tacos (which actually makes six tacos for me), two quesadillas, rice, beans, and a soda for ~$19. I will definitely be going back and will be trying out the lengua taco and the burrito. I personally didn't like the chicken at all so I'll be staying away from that next time. TLDR: I definitely recommend!

In response to the restaurant- it definitely was not quesadillas that I ordered unless you make quesadillas with a bunch of meat and no cheese? Also- we opened the burrito to confirm no beans- nice try though! You should talk to your employees rather than make the customer feel like they were wrong. Thank you. The food was good/okay but they don't put beans in the burritos? And my tacos were served with flour tortillas instead of corn. I didn't bother to ask them about it as the chick at the register had a stank look on her face since we walked in. Not as busy as the other taco bar- but has more seating. We will definitely return to the other taco bar but I'm not too sure about this one.

-- Delicious + plentiful. TWO tacos is plenty. No need for FOUR (like I gluttonously ordered). They're less than $2.50 a piece, and there's a toppings bar where you can load up on all kinds of goodies and salsas. And there's an empty tortilla under each t

LivingSocial won me over finally, and I bought a voucher. Today I visited this hole-in-the-wall (first time) and found many, many customers. I ordered three types of taco--asada, pastor, and lengua. I liked them all. Tacos were tasty and HUGE compared to all other favorite taco joints in the area--Tortacos, the other Taco Bar, all the Baja Freshes you can think of, and all other holes-in-the-wall! Salsa bar was good (not great), service was nice, place was as clean as as any other fast-food joint. They are open 365/366 days a year. Hard working folk. By the way, their web site shows old prices. Tacos are $2.99 or higher each. Forgot: I just bought another voucher as a gift (allowed by LivingSocial)!

Usually my tummy doesn't have good experience with Mexican food... I was hoping that after my meal I didn't have to spend hours in my latrine..that wasn't the case at all... 5 hours later and no unsettling moments. First, I was welcomed here like I was family. The place is very small but cozy, it's in old town gburg, I like to call it a hidden gem. I had their tacos and they were good!!! My friend got crispy tacquitos. I love the Spanish sour cream. It's very rich and creamy. It's hard to explain but it goes well with Mexican food. Their food is amazing. I got steak tacos and meat itself was well seasoned. The food is cook to order. U like that crappy c chained burrito place where everything sits in a warmer...and you have the runs moments after eating .. NO joke, they have a Mexican fixings bar, kinda like Baja Fresh but better...it's homemade. their horachata drink, amazing!!!, you won't break bank here and at this location , for my fellow yelpers you check in there site , you will get a free taco!!! Yumm-o!!! 5 stars!!!!!! Experience!!!!!

The food is pretty good and the service is excellent. There are other taco places in the area that are better and more convenient. Not sure that I will go out of my way to eat here or pay full price (had a LivingSocial coupon).

Got a to go order from here last night. We ordered six tacos, two chicken, two beef fajita and two shredded beef. We also ordered a beef and chicken quesadilla and the tres leches. The quesadillas looked like tacos. It was folded like a taco and small. I only realized it was a quesadilla after we had it and noticed that it had cheese. The tacos were bland and didn't have any flavor. I could not tell the difference between the beef fajita and the shredded beef. It looked the same. The tres leches wasn't bad. Overall the price is outrageous to me and the food does not make up for it. I'm from Texas, so I have high expectations when it comes to tacos and such. I probably won't go back and would opt for a Mexican restaurant in the area or make my own tacos.

    (3)
  • Jeff B.

I always get the tacos and burrito. Those are the cheapest and best items to order. Three out of the four salsas in the salsa bar area taste splendid. The average salsa is the red, spicy one. Taco Bar is very underrated. We need to spread the word and eschew Taco Bell!

Gonna be real quick and to the point. This place is AWESOME!!! good food, no, great food! its as authentic as it gets. None of that tex-mex crap. Great tacos, great tortas, good horchata and good service. The owner was there the day i went and he was very pleasant and very young too. Im not mexican But i walked out feeling like i was and just wanted to give him a nod and an "orale guey" LOL. Try it if youre in the area!

If you want good tortas come here. The tortas are a lot better then Torta Tacos. I was pleasantly surprised.

  • TJ B.

Friendly, quick, cheap, full menu and photos of everything! I'll come back for sure to try some new things like the soup or platters. On this visit I had the tacos. They have a nice combo special which is $8.40 for any 3 tacos and a drink. I got steak, chorizo and pastor. The quantity of meat was fine (tender) but the tacos were pretty bland. I added a lot of condiments but none of the meats had a strong flavor. It's possible they needed salt, but usually that comes from all the salsas and sauces. Even with some fresh lime squeezed on there, the flavor was lacking. I'll try it again, but the tacos on this visit did not not rise to the quality of the Mexican food carts near MVA or Tortacos.

Thought I was going to the taco place near Shady Grove Hospital out of a gas station/wine store. Turns out this is much closer to my work so that's a plus. The tacos are big and reasonably priced. I especially like the al pastor, it has a bit of sweetness from the pineapple they put in it. Not as much bang for your buck as the other place, but definitely a good deal for authentic food and right in old town Gaithersburg. YUM.

I'm surprised that this Taco Bar location doesn't get as much love as its sibling, Taco Bar II. Yes, it's in Old Town Gaithersburg and not located inside a gas station (those are the best restaurant!). But hey, the food is just as good here! The menu at this location is just a tad cheaper and slightly different. I always get eye hungry when I go to Taco Bar II, so I knew it would be no different here. I wanted to order a half steak torta and pastor taco, but you can only order the whole torta. Bah! So I decided on the steak torta combo which came with a side of fries and a drink. MmMmM just as delicious as I remembered it to be! The bread was warm and crusty. The steak packed a lot of flavor and was nicely fried. The garnishes were fresh. Loved how they were generous with the avocado slices! Next time, I'll ask them to hold the onions. Although I prefer thin fries over steak fries, the fries here were nicely cooked. Not greasy and not overly crispy. Piping hot even when I got home. I also tried a bite of the bistec tacos. The grilled steak was tender and flavorful. They were very generous with the amount of steak placed in the taco that you could make two for the price of one! I also tried a beef taquito. MmMmM deep fried beefy goodness! I liked how the lettuce, cheese, and sour cream came on the side so the taquitos don't get soggy. The salsa bar here doesn't have much variety compared to Taco Bar II, but it still does the trick (lots of compartments were empty). You have your choice of two mild salsas, two hot salsas, pico de gallo, and hot peppers. My favorite was the red hot salsa as both green salsas were somewhat watery. The restaurant itself is rather simple. Several tables and a small TV in the corner playing telenovelas softly in the background. The staff here is extremely friendly and patient. I'll definitely be back for more!

They have pretty decent tacos but I've had better tacos. I like that they have a good selection and variety of tacos and they are not stingy with their meets. I also like their little topping selections.

Taco bar has excellent authentic Mexican food. They are very friendly, have cheap prices, and great food! I love the chicken milanesa torta sandwiches as well as the steak and cheese tortas. Their burritos are also good. For the price you pay, you can't beat the Taco Bar! I prefer the Russel Avenue location over the Rio, but they're both good.

There were at least 12 hispanic guys eating or waiting for their food when I got there at 11:30 am today -- most of them were eating Menudo, which I understand is their hangover cure...:) I got a posole for my husband and two bistec tacos for myself, to go. The fixings bar was already a little low on condiments, but I managed to scrape up enough cilantro and salsa for my needs. By the time I Ieft, another 6 or so guys had come in and the place was getting crowded -- but not a single female in the bunch. The bistec was a bit dry, as were the corn tortillas, but the flavor was good. Hubby said the Posole was as good as the ones he's eaten at at the Fields Road Taco Bar location. This place is so close to my house, I will be trying other menu items in the future.

I love Taco Bar! The people are friendly, the prices reasonable, and the food is very good. There's a Yelp coupon good for a free taco with a $10 purchase, but it's hard for one person to spend that much at Taco Bar.

This place gets some really low reviews for some reason...and I milked this place for all it was worth with the yelp deal ($10 for $20 worth of food) while it lasted. For those who do not know, this is the original Taco Bar. The one that gets 4.5* is Taco Bar II. To the best of my knowledge, it is run by the same family and while it is not exactly the same, there is a lot of overlap in the selections. In my opinion, most of the tacos (pollo, and pastor) are on par with Taco Bar II. You'll notice fewer condiments at the fixin bar + lack of freshly prepared salsa and fixins. However, the quality does come quite close. Besides the tacos, everything else is questionable. I am not a fan of their tortas, sope, tostadas, burritos, you name it. As the yelp deal has expired, I find no reason to go to a place farther away from my home that is inferior in quality and selections...but while it lasted....1/2 price tacos were swwwwwwwweeettt.

This place is seriously ON POINT. They're bisteck tacos are SO GOOD & HUGE as well as their tortas. my daughter digs their cheese quesadillas, but then again whats not to love about their menu? Their salsa bar selections are delicious, spicy, & always stocked. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because its so tiny in there that its hard to get around.

  • Kitty B.

This place in on point!! Came here about 2 times and always order the same thing. Kne and the bf get 2 tacos because they double the tortilla and add a A LOT of meat so we can easily have 4 tacos each. Also make sure you order an Horchata!! It's sooo good.

If you're looking for great tasting AUTHENTIC Mexican food, this is definitely the place to go! And if you think Taco Bell is Mexican food you're in for a big surprise. I love everything on their menu, but definitely make sure to try their pastor tacos or chorizo/cheese tacos, they are to die for! Their rice is also one of my favorites. The location is pretty hidden but the place is well kept, cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen at a "fast food" establishment. The prices are unbelievably low so your definitely getting your moneys worth! The staff is friendly and helpful! They will suggest what to get if your new to Mexican food or simply unsure of what you want. But don't be afraid to try anything on their menu, its all delicious!

I bought a yelp deal here thinking it was the other taco bar. I was kinda disappointed when i found out it was for this one. I didn't even know there were two!!! SO one day i decided to use the deal. $20 worth of food. Heres what i got: Saudero sope: bland, flavorless, just bad...even with the toppings from the topping bar Al pastor tostada: tasty, crunchy, flavorful. The al pastor meat has small chunks of pineapple which gives it that sweetness. Bistec burrito: Terrible. Nothing but rice, beans, and a little bit of steak with cheese. Pretty tasteless and boring. Worst burrito ever. Taco bell makes better burritos than this crap. Sincronizada w/ al pastor: How is this different from a quesadilla?! Pretty bad still even with the al pastor. 3 Tacos: Al pastor, saudero, carne asada. They were alright, but no where near as big or as good as Taco Bar II. Horchata: Tasted a little watered down. Also the fact that it was ladled out of an open air bowl was unappetizing. Save your money folks and go to the other taco bar cuz this place is just bad.

Went here on a Groupon, and wasn't really sure what to expect. Do let appearance fool you on this one. The Taco Bar is definitely not the place for decor and style, but if you like good real Mexican food you found the right place. Meals are reasonably priced, very tasty if you add the bar fixings, and you get plenty for your money. Definitely one of the better spots for a flavorful, reasonably priced Mexican meal.

My never ending hunt for California street style mexican cuisine bought me to this lovely restaurant. I was the only brotha in the joint and probably the only non Spanish speaker the evening I was in this spot, so I felt pretty comfortable that this place was not phony, not like AT&T but E.T., If you feel me! I got an Al Pastor taco and a Steak and Cheese Torta, the taco was almost perfect. The Pastor was hot and flavorful, the only down side was the tortillas, they were dry as bones. I had high hopes for the Torta, like I was really excited to eat it, but after a few bites the thrill was gone, sorry folks I just can't give it a pass right now, it was bland and the different ingredients just melded together, nothing stood out, true story. Pretty much what I'm saying is that the Mexican food champ in this area is still the original Taco Bar at the Washingtonian gas station! Holla!

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
