Smokey Glen and Cupcakes Antonio have a looooooooong history. Smokey Glen is like that crazy ex-girlfriend that loved to cook and feed me, but always picked the hottest days to throw her cookouts. No matter how much I'd say to myself, "This is THE last time I visit this crazy dame" she ends up wooing me back with her free food and grilled treats. The first time I visited Smokey Glen was back in the summer of 1994 when the bank I used to work for held it's annual picnic on the ground. Although the bank was local, they went all out with the food at Smokey Glen and even served beer and alcohol to keep their bank employees "hydrated" in the hot summer sun. I worked at that bank for over 4 years (while in college) and each summer we'd all look forward to the summer trip to Smokey Glen to get our food, dessert and drank on until my belly was full of beer, grilled meat and various fruit pies cooked over hot coals...yum. After graduating from college and leaving the bank, my annual summer BBQs at Smokey Glen came to an end. It was a bit sad but I figured the end of the free summer BBQ party was just a part of growing up; a post college life. But that would not be the last time I would see Smokey Glen. Fast forward six years later. I met my future wife to be and surprise surprise! Her company held their annual summer BBQs at Smokey Glen. Free beer and free food had returned to the life of this fat boy. The food was the same (okay, not too bad) but was made even better by the cold frosty brews they happily served to all the visitors. Nothing says happiness in my book (the book of Antonio, King James Edition) than a cold frosty beer and some BBQ'ed chicken. Ummm....I once again had an annual summer trip to Smokey Glen. Yee-haw! Once the wife left her company after the birth of our monkeys, the summer trips to Smokey Glen were no more. Sad Antonio. :-( **insert sad sad violin music here by some classical artist that makes me sound much smarter than I am** Stop the music...Smokey Glen was out of my life...but not completely outta my life. "She" came back into my life this year after receiving a company email a few months ago telling us employees to saved the date for the annual summer picnic at Smokey Glen. !!!!! Smokey Glen! I was so excited and thoughts of the BBQ'ed chicken and other dead animals roasting on hot coals filled my mind. And the beer...I knew they would have some frosty cold ones to ward off the hot summer heat and humidity... I really looked forward to the picnic as past experiences at Smokey Glen danced in my head...to sum it up, I couldn't wait!! When the day finally arrived, I was surprised to see that Smokey Glen had been completely redone. Gone was the single picnic area with a HUGE parking lot (field). Smokey Glen was not split into four different areas with their own parking areas, playgrounds and baseball fields. Everything looked new and better organized from my last trip a few years back. As I walked up to the area designated for our company, my heart sank. The long army of grills stocked with chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs and steak were replaced by three grills roasting chicken. A few tubs of potato salad were in the "fixins" area along with some bean salad, lettuce and other sparse side items.... Disappointed... I told myself it was okay as I didn't need some burgers as the tasty Smokey Glen chicken was enough for me as long as they had some beer. Meeting up with my coworkers I set my plate on a table and asked about the drinks. One coworker told me, "They only have soda". "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!?!" Yep, no beer...no wine. The only thing available was water, Pepsi and lemonade. Ugh...apparently our company had not only taken the cheap route with the food but they also saved a LOT of money by not serving alcohol. I was so disappointed. The only thing that made a hot summer picnic bearable at Smokey Glen was a cold frosty beer. That's when I realized that what made Smokey Glen fun in the past was the flowing beer. Without a cold cerveza, the food just seemed "okay" and the heat and sweat seemed to creep into all those cervices in my body. Ugh...I was SO disappointed. Despite my great summer memories of the past, the Smokey Glen food was only worth 2 stars. I bumped them up to 3 stars because part of the new remodel create a ton of new play areas that kept my kids happy. I also loved the magician-clown that kept our boys entertained despite their fussy non-napping crankiness. Will I return next year to Smokey Glen for the company picnic? Probably not...not unless they serve some brews. :-)

Boo hoo! The season for Fridays at the farm is over ;( I will have to dream of the all you can eat crabs coated in old bay, the BBQ rib, BBQ chicken quarters, fresh corn on the cob, mac and cheese, and of course pie! Just to name a few things... Yes, its all you can eat may thru Aug. And I made it to the last one!! I really need to plan my time better... So this place is enjoyable with picnic tables outside and under covering if you like that better. The servers are nice and provide you with what you need. There is mini golf if you are up to the challenge... But huge tip: they tend to run out of pie. So make sure you get the kind you like fast!! Will it blueberry, cherry, apple, peach.... Good wholesome fun :)

As with many, this was the site for our company picnic. I only attended, so I don't know how much it cost or how hard it was to arrange. But once it started, it was a very organized event. The barbecue (chicken, ribs, brisket) was quite good, the sides (I had macaroni salad and baked beans) were also good. The barn was a big space with plenty of tables set up for our crew. Plenty of open space, where we had set up an inflatable slide and a bounce house for the kids who also enjoyed the playground and the mini-golf course. Very nice.

The best BBQ in the Washington metro area. Highly recommendable the location is easy access and the place is gorgeous and family oriented, you can't beat the prices and the quality is superb. You can feel the wonderful nature's aroma coming to you just by takin a walk on the gorgeous green meadows at front of the eating areas.

Attended a corporate event there. The ribs and chicken needed seasoning, and indifferent service. If I had to pay out of pocket I'd choose elsewhere.

I came here as a guest for a company picnic. The food is plentiful and decent. Everything is grilled onsite and you can smell the smokiness that is "Smokey Glen." The chicken (you can pick dark meat or white meat) is cooked perfectly so that it falls right off the bone, but could have used more flavor. The ribs were salty but not bad. The brisket was the best - flavorful and tender. Everything was better with BBQ sauce, so don't forget to put some on your plate when you're loading up on all the goods! The condiments are easy to overlook when you have get-all-the-food-you-can tunnel vision. There were also hot dogs, and sides - baked beans, a salad bar, potato salad, pasta salad, bread, corn on the cob, apple sauce, and potato chips. They also brought out a table with a variety of pies, with some additional cookie, brownie, and Blondie platters. You could get the pie a la mode with vanilla ice cream. I went with the classic apple pie which was freshly baked and delicious. All of the pies were piping hot- fresh off the grill! They also have a freezer of different ice cream bars/Popsicles. I got a nutty buddy ice cream cone which was on the soggy side (these are not the brand name ice creams). This place was adequately and effectively staffed. They were also good about replacing empty food trays. For beverages, they have soda dispensers of Pepsi products. They also have a small bar when you can get some beer, wine in a box, and they even had nonalcoholic beer. For the facilities, they have picnic tables that are completely outdoors and then covered/slightly indoor picnic tables where the drink stations are. Beware: the bathroom situation = porta potty (certainly not my preference). They have a small playground for the kids, and provide equipment for free mini golf, horseshoe, and tether ball. There's also field space if you want to get a kickball/softball game going- we used it for corn hole. There was ample space for other sources of entertainment from third party vendors, like a photo booth, face painter, balloon artist, and even a guy on stilts (who could even fit underneath the covered area). Overall, this was a positive experience, the service/employees were great- I would definitely recommend this place as a venue for another company picnic!

Friday Night BBQ is a great idea and great family fun. It was like a Friday night picnic. Plenty if good food. All you can eat crabs BBQ chicken, BBQ ribs, hot dogs. The corn on the cob is excellent sweet and buttery. The price is quite reasonable and add on additional 6.95 for all you can drink beer and wine a definite bargain. Friday Night BBQ is a fun time for all playground for the kids and lots of lawn to run and play. My only complaint is the bathroom facility are outhouses. I'm a city girl and I want a bathroom with running water even if I'm on a farm. I went with a group of ladies and a fun time was had by all. And we all left satisfied and full.

I went to Smokey Glen Farm today for a company event. The grounds were very nice even though it was raining. They had several tents and buildings with plenty of seating. They served ribs, BBQ chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, rolls, fruit salad, pies, cookies, and chips. They have a fountain soda station where you can drink as much as you want. They also have bartenders onsite that serve beer and wine, which require proper ID. The staff was friendly and helpful. If you need a facility to have a business or family function this would be the place!

I was there for a wedding and it is a fantastic venue. Gorgeous green landscape and ample space for parking. It rained for the wedding so we had to move the wedding indoors. There are 2 enclosed areas. One we used for the wedding ceremony. Plenty of space for tables and counters for serving drinks (bar). The 2nd building was more of a open space with just a roof, but it was much larger. Great space for possibly serving food or creating a dance floor. The reception included smoked meats from Smokey Glen which I have never had at a wedding before! The meats took the "show" in my opinion (not more than the bride & groom of course!). Smoked bbq'ed chicken, ribs, brisket .. made your mouth water at the smell. It fell off the bone. It made for some licking of fingers at the reception which is fun/odd to do in a dress haha but it was well worth it. I am not sure if the bbq sauces were homemade, but that added great kick to the meal as well. I didn't participate but mini-golf, volleyball, horseshoes and various other activities were also available on the grounds. The bathrooms had a bathroom in the park feel - sand on the ground, which is as expected given the venue is an actual farm/park. In the women's bathroom, I did appreciate a giant basket of products ie: hairspray, mouthwash, deodorant which is always a plus at any event in case you forgot something. :)

Took pictures at a company event here. It was very hot and the sun was shining. There were mist tents set up all over the park, which was a definite plus. The staff was very friendly which was another huge plus. There are outdoor picnic tables as well as picnic tables in a covered area. I would have given them five stars, however the bbq chicken was a little dry. If you have "barbequers" in your name your bbq better be on point. On the menu was bbq chicken, grilled corn (delish), hot dogs (burnt like I like 'em), veggie burgers, salads (garden, coleslaw and potato), bbq baked beans, applesauce, cranberry sauce, potato chips, pies (apple, cherry and blueberry) and ice cream (small cups of vanilla and chocolate; fudge pops and popsicles). There was a fountain station with Pepsi products and water. There was enough room for several moon bounces, zip lines, pony rides, dancing with the dj, face painting, mist tents with room to spare. There is a cute mini golf course that children young and old enjoyed as well as two basketball courts. Overall the event was a hit and I would definitely recommend this venue.

This is an unbelievable venue for a wedding! Over the past 14 months, we have been working with Smokey Glen Farm and Jim Green to plan a wedding. He and the staff have been nothing but exemplary to work with from start to finish. It all came together last weekend against all odds (rain, sleet and snow the weekend before) and turned out more beautiful and memorable than any of us even imagined. The pavilions are "blank palettes" and with enough white Christmas lights and DIY table settings, the venue can be very intimate and magical at night and very unlike a traditional hotel or restaurant. Jim Green helped us make that happen by allowing us plenty of time to set up in advance and providing the ladders, etc. that we needed. The facilities were freshly painted, and everything looked great. The outdoor settings for pictures are fantastic. It was too nippy to spend as much time as we have like outside, but the hills, the barn, the covered bridge, etc. provided great backdrops against a blue sky. Jim even set up a "bonfire" during cocktail hour per our prearranged request. The other vendors for DJ and rentals which are coordinated through SGF were excellent and most accommodating. The food was delicious and piping hot throughout the buffet. The DJ was fantastic and kept the whole ceremony and reception on track--providing the mics in the upper pavilion for the ceremony, then setting up the sound system in the lower pavilion for the reception, and making announcements for each step of the reception. The SGF staff was wonderful in helping us set up and clean up, as well as in packing up any extra food that guests wanted to take home. Thank you Jim and SGF staff for answering all our questions over the past many months, providing clear communication and guidance, doing everything you could to answer all our needs, and in short making a dream a reality.

Came here for the company picnic. The BBQ was CRAZY GOOD! Brisket and chicken is to die for! They're all smoked just right and not too rare or dry. Fantastic place for having a large BBQ picnic. Our venue was in the barn area, which was converted to be a place to eat, which was nice. Very cute, farmer-y feel. Outside was and area for put-put golf, horseshoe tossing, and other various activities. There's even a playground for kids to play in, but of course being a company picnic, we were the kids of the day. There's even a basketball court, vollyeball court, and baseball field. The place supplies all of the balls and materials you'll need to play any of the games. It's a nice large secluded area. There were other parties at the same time on the premises, but way further away from us, which was perfect.

I came here for a wedding reception and was on the lawn space directly in front after you enter the venue. (I forget the name!) There was a large hill plus a volleyball net, kids' minigolf, and a large, sheltered picnic space. There were smaller tents set up, as well, for drinks and finger food before the big meal. The picnic space had ample space for seating, large fans (much needed in the summer heat!), and a bar with beer. The food was pretty good, though I will say, I've had better BBQ. The beans were surprisingly good. The buffet style set-up for getting food worked nicely. Overall, it was a really nice space for an outdoor wedding reception, especially one that had lots of kids in attendance.

I beg to differ with the other reviewers. I used to work for NIH and the Institute I worked in held their annual picnic here. I helped organize last year's rendezvous and I have nothing but nice things to say about this place. I had the pleasure of speaking directly with the owner on a few occasions; he was always so pleasant on the phone. Their sales manager helped us plan every last detail of our event and they did a wonderful job; everything fell into place beautifully. The food wasn't fantastic but what do you expect when you're serving hundreds of people? They served your typical bbq fare with plenty of homemade pies for dessert. People raved about the pies; specifically the blueberry and apple. The ground are beautiful and it's a nice getaway for those that are stuck in the office 9-5pm. There is plenty to do on-site, including ample space for basketball, volleyball, miniature golf and walking tours. Several indoor pavillions can hold hundreds of people and parking is plentiful. It really is an ideal spot for an annual company picnic or family reunion; weather permitting of course.

I planned and held a corporate event here this past July. The representative was very thorough and helpful in the planning stages, and their catalog contained a plethora of options for large-scale outdoor events. If they don't have something you want, they offer options from outside vendors, so you don't have to go looking around. At the actual event, everyone on staff was courteous, constantly connecting with me to make sure everyone was having a good time. The food was delicious (we had the Premium menu with BBQ Chicken and Roast Pig), and there was plenty of space for the kids to run around. Smokey Glen is a great place to work with, if you need to plan a big outdoor event, but don't want the hassle of micromanaging every detail.

My work has their annual employee picnic every year. It's a nice facility, lots to do outdoors (everything from walking the extensive grounds to volleyball to mini golf), decent food, and a nice atmosphere. It's in the middle of nowhere, which is nice when you want to get away from things. The grilled chicken's decent (occasionally dry, but sometimes nicely done) and the burgers are OK, but the pies are pretty good. They keep the lines moving pretty quickly, so you're not waiting forever for food. The main barn can get a bit warm and smoky when they're cooking, which is a problem when you have a ton of people sitting and listening to the big boss talk. They have fans to push the smoke out, but they're pretty loud. And the beverage fountain is located in a corner of the barn, which is hard to get to when the barn is crowded. That, and it attracts yellow jackets like crazy. I wish they'd place the beverages somewhere else more accessible. Not a bad place to have a big group gathering is the bottom line.

My, erm, "company" had our summer picnic at this place just this past Friday. It was brutally hot, as it often is in the summer here, and, people, it's probably not gonna get any cooler... First, any place that caters to large groups in the sweltering heat should have *real* bathrooms, not port-a-potties. Port-a-potties are made to be PORTable, thus for places that only occasionally have events. Or at least go for the really nice port-a-potties that are air conditioned (I have seen them, they do exist, at least in Northern California...) The event had lots of activities that were provided onsite, such as a large moonwalk thingy. Looking at their web site, no water-related activities were available as a choice. What's up with that? What do you people have against providing something that would actually allow people not to overheat and die? Someone (although it may have been our event staff) came up with water balloons, but that is kind of violent, no? Those things sting when they pop against you. The only respite I had was a large fan and the ice machine. I haven't even gotten to the barbecue, which tasted like it was coated in lard or something nasty before being grilled. Pretty nasty, IMHO. The miniature golf was fun, and in the shade (at least in the morning). Since I wasn't involved in planning the affair, I have no idea how it compares to other options in the area.
