Good fortune has excellent food. The lunch special is a bargain. $6.25 for a huge serving of food. The General Tsao chicken is great and so is the pork with spring onion. Pupu platter is tasty and their dumplings are awesome. Seafood dishes are good but they skimp on the shrimp. I've had some bad experiences such as a Peking duck that tasted a week old. Furthermore dining in provides terrible wait service. Also, whoever does the phone orders sometimes has selective hearing. If you are looking for a tasty bargain lunch, then you will like Good Fortune...just get it to go. Oh yeah...although the menu claims no MSG, the feeling you have after eating here will disagree with that statement.

Not sure why the reviews are positive for this place. Sweet and Sour Soup - slimy, had 2 sips and did not want any more. Crab Rangoon - pretty tastee actually, ill give them that. Crispy Beef - we asked for it as spicy as they can make it - not crispy, not spicy, flavor was OK but I've had way better Kung Pao Chicken - soggy and I swear I could not find one peanut in there. Maybe it was an off night, I will give it another try, but I have yet to find one good Chinese place in the Gaithersburg/Rockville area...

Not good. Don't do it! After reading reviews I was optimistic and decided to try this place since its in our neighborhood. Ordered the orange chicken and crispy beef which was highly recommended by the person who took my order. Both dishes were greasy. The combination fried rice was decent which is why I gave this place 2 stars. After eating our meal, both my son and I had sore stomachs. If you're looking for good Chinese food, skip this place and look elsewhere.

Nothing special. Typical Chinese food. Has beef with broccoli. They do give you slices of oranges and fortune cookies when you pay your bill though.

Neighborhood Chinese. Only came because Average Joes had a 30 minute wait. The fact that it's empty at 6:30 on a Friday should have been a tip off. Food was mediocre and unimaginative. Waitstaff seemed surprised to see us.

Nice fresh well prepared Chinese food. Schezwan peppercorns had great strong flavor! Restaurant is nicely decorated. Lunch menu is really inexpensive!

It's not often I can convince the girlfriend to come to an Americanized Chinese restaurants, considering how close we live to Rockville. However on a Saturday night after10pm, most places were closed (I'm talking to you Mike's Subs, Chiptole, Whole Foods), so we decided to get carry out from Good Fortune Cafe, who closes at 10:30pm. Inside of the restaurant was smaller than I expected, however we noticed there weren't anyone in the dining area. Not to let that deter us, we asked the waitress behind the cash register for recommendations...correct that, recommendations that Asians like, and not necessarily Americans. (Side note: I just had Americanized Chinese food from Union Station two days ago, and it was delicious). The waitress recommended the Singapore noodles, and we took a chance on the Kung Pao chicken (non-spicy). Once we got the food (which took only 5-10 minutes), got home, took a shower and sat our butts down on the couch, we dug into the food quickly. The Singapore noodles dish was wonderful, because it had just enough garlic curry to it to have a little zing, and a reasonable portion of meat/veggies on it. The Kung Pao chicken also was good, albeit really greasy. The grease went through our remaining non-eco friendly styrofoam plates. Overall it was a pleasant surprise and on our list of late night Chinese food cravings.

After just moving into the area, I was looking for a decent Chinese restaurant to order from. Unfortunately, I chose this one for my first attempt. The food was edible, but that's about all that I can say. It wasn't cold, per se, when it arrived but it definitely wasn't hot either. Everything tasted fairly bland. It might have just been a one-off bad experience, considering the number of positive reviews here on Yelp. Unfortunately, it was enough to turn me off, and I won't be giving them a second chance.

July 2014 - I have started to order from Good Fortune Cafe once again. I don't know if there has been a management change, but the food and delivery service has drastically improved. It may be petty to mention, but the ladies who work in the front and answer the phone speak much better english than a few years ago. Personally, I find it ordering over the phone much easier and quicker. And I can understand them better, so I am able to communicate better and ask about different dishes. At this point, I would encourage folks to give them a try.

A decent place for Chinese takeout. The restaurant itself is pretty small and I think they try too hard to do too many things like serve bubble tea, thai food and sushi. Their spring rolls, chicken and scallops with mixed vegetables were good. The general tso's chicken was ok. Vegetable fried rice and combo lo mein was average. They have $6 lunch specials which are a good deal and I would get takeout from them again but just make sure to choose the right things to order.

Worst Chinese food in the area.. I had fried rice and panang curry delivered. The fried rice was really bad and had no taste... The panang curry was gluey(wtf?)... I will definitely not be visiting again.

Probably the best place for Chinese food in Gaithersburg (next to Giant in Kentlands) . This is our go to place for our Chinese food cravings. Their hunan pork is pretty good. However, they do tend to put alot of broccoli in the dish. The curry chicken was also pretty good. It would be nice if the prices weren't so high.

Now this place rocks my socks because they have the best lunch special you can imagine! They only place in MOCO that I know of that has lunch specials 7 days a week from 11-3pm. 33 choices to chose from! The place is small but its cozy and I love looking at the koi fish. The staff are nice and pleasant. Not stiff or the type that is only interested in taking your money. I love their General Tso, its crispy and crunchy and the sauce is spicy sweet. ** They have bubble tea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love their milk tea with bubbles and their mango with bubbles. They make sushi! Gotta try the tuna hand roll! Their Spider roll is good!!! I like their triple delight as well. This is my new place to go to when I am in the mood for Chinese and you will have a pleasant experience!

Small place but nice enough to eat in. They always have Chinese television playing. Many of their sauces are sweet to the point of unpleasantness, which I don't understand. Also, we did have a literal fly in the soup experience once. They have a couple of decent dishes and I would eat there regularly enough because of location, before discovering that Ming's on the other side of Kentlands is better.

I gave this place 2 honest tries and regret it... I tried to go have a late lunch there last summer but it took forever to be seated and we ended up leaving because it was too hot. I ordered delivery recently and it was nothing short of disgusting. I ordered what I considered to be a "safe" plate, steamed chicken and vegetables w/black bean sauce. It was over-steamed, so the chicken was dry and the vegetables turned to mush. I threw it out and decided to just eat my egg roll for dinner. I took one bite and found a dust bunny inside. A BALL OF DIRT AND DUST. Now, the idea of Chinese or Japanese food makes me sick to my stomach.

Surprisingly great little find in the Kentlands! It's hard to find a decent sit-down Chinese restaurant in this area. Most are either Generic Take Out or a buffet. None of which really is fantastic or memorable. Good Fortune Cafe does not fit this stigma. It's a cozy little place (it can fill up, so, make sure to prepare in advance) in the heart of the kentlands. The food is very good here! I have yet to try anything I don't like! Food is prepared fast and is ready within minuted. Service is never slow. The fried chicken dishes at some other Chinese places in the area can be soggy or dry and lack that great bite of tempura chicken drowning in sweet/spicy sauce. Not here! It's always crisp and juicy. The General Tsos chicken is fantastic, as well as e Kung pow. They even serve classics like Lemon Chicken, Orange Chicken and sweet and Sour Pork.....dishes that I've had a hard time finding at most restaurants these days. AppetiZers are plentiful and delicious too. Pan fried dumplings are filled with sweet and juicy pork. While crisp and tender on the outside. Crab Rangoons are creamy and savory and stuffed very full. Egg rolls are fat and loaded with pork and cabbage. It's all very good! Portion size are large enough to easily satisfy the greater hunger (one dish can easily feed two people with no problem). Prices are definitely reasonable, considering the portion size. Two can dine for $20 and still take home leftovers. They offer other dishes as well, such as sushi and select thai dishes. There were only two setbacks for me (and why they received 4 stars) was their hot tea. It's a very bland, light jasmine tea. I prefer green or strong black tea with my Chinese food and this didn't meet what I was looking for. Second, the Moo Shu pork pancakes were not Chinese pancakes at all.....they were flour tortillas. It's easier and more convenient for them to use this (and the moo Shu was excellent), but the dish just didn't work with flour tortillas and I was slightly disappointed after enjoying all of the other great "Americanized" Chinese dishes they have. Regardless of this, Good Fortune Cafe is worth the stop if you're looking to satisfy that Chinese craving! They also have free delivery on orders over $15.....which is a heck of a deal if you're in the area. I've returned many times and will continue to patron here.

Very reliable Chinese food. I usually stop by Good Fortune as I'm picking up a few items from Giant grocery store. I have several favorites: the moo goo tai pan, crispy eggplant, General Tsao and vegetable egg foo yung. Their egg rolls have improved recently, but I wish they would offer a soup option with their lunch specials (instead of just offering a choice between egg rolls and dumplings).

Decent and inexpensive sushi, delivers for free. I've never been here in person - I've only ever gotten delivery. This joint is good if you are craving sushi, want it fairly fast, and don't want to leave the house. I like their inari pouches and their avocado cream cheese rolls (not on the menu - you have to ask for them special order). The tamago sushi is okay, so is the fried rice. The spring rolls are also pretty standard fare. I would NOT recommend their noodle dishes however, they never seem to cook them properly, and they have a weird aftertaste. Ditto on the tofu dishes. Overall I would recommend checking them out if you live in the area. This place has standard fare - don't expect the most amazing food ever, but it's cheap.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
