I just ate there again. Delicious but once you get to the crust, you realize it still needs salt. I hope the owner/operators read this: Add salt to the dough!!!!

Been coming here for a long time. Only reason I go is for their 2 slices of pizza and soda for $4.50. What a great deal for lunch/dinner. Sometimes they put a lot of cheese on their pizzas so it tends to be greasy - depends on the pizza guy, but it's not like your eating healthy when eating pizza! If you go to Panera and get a sandwich and drink it will cost you around $10. I also like their buffalo wings (no buffalo wing sauce) and fries.

I ate here a week ago and had a miserable experience. The pizza was mediocre; comparable to your Sbarro's, but I opted for the calzone on this particular occasion. Now I haven't been to Italy or anything, but it's my understanding that calzones have a semi-circular shape to facilitate being able to pick it up and dip it into the marinara sauce while you're eating it. You can imagine my surprise, when upon opening the box, I see a circle looking at me. How am I supposed to eat a circular calzone? Whatever, I cut it up and start dipping it and the first bite or two was not too bad. They advertise that ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan go into every calzone, well I didn't taste a single bite of ricotta throughout the meal, just overwhelming mozzarella. As I continued eating my circular calzone, it began to 'deflate' and sort of ooze oil until a thin film of it was lubricating the bottom of the box it came in. This was enough to gross me out and I had quite lost my appetite at this point. I threw away the calzone after eating roughly 1/4th of it. In short, the pizza is mediocre and nothing special, and the calzone is revolting garbage. Avoid if possible.

My husband and I have been living in Maryland (We are from NY) for 6 months now and had given up on the pizza here. We were sick of spending $26 a pie on some cardboard sorry excuse for pizza Then we found Giuseppi's! This is what pizza is supposed to be. As far as my husband and I are concerned, this is the ONLY real pizza in Maryland. Love Love Love it!!!

Not bad but not a place to go to unless you have been out drinking all night, or you're buying cheese pizzas for 5th graders. Super greasy! NY style intended but missed the mark by a whole lot. Pepperoni and sausage topped pizza left nothing but 1/8" of pure grease on everyone's plate. Staff was great, prices were ok. And they have 3 games for kids to play. Tastes exactly like thin crusted pizza would at Sbarro.

Giuseppis has the best tasting pizza in this region! So much like in NYC. I also love how friendly the folks are that work there too. Salads are good size portions and nice and crispy!

I wish more people would review this joint who actually got a whole pizza fresh from the oven. I think some people are reviewing after eating the two slice special. While this is a good value, you are not getting the real taste unless you are lucky enough to have gotten the slices from a freshly cooked pie (even then, the toppings will be added after the pie is already cooked, so it's not the same). Pizza is only good fresh from the oven, or cold the next day while nursing a hangover. Okay, so here is a review of the pizza I got when I ordered and ate there while it was fresh. The first time I had a pizza here, I got a plain cheese to satisfy my wife and daughter. I wasn't expecting much from a boring cheese pizza, but I was pleasantly surprised. The pizza was perfect from the perspective of an Americanized Italian from New York. It was just like the pizzas I used to get as a kid in NY. The crust was crisp on the bottom but tender closer to the cheese. This is hard to pull off without either making the crust too thick and doughy or too thin and subject to burnt spots. The sauce was just the right consistency and there was enough of it to taste great, but not so much to make it sloppy. It was spiced correctly, but if you like more zing, they have plenty of red pepper shakers, oregano and parm to make it appeal to individual tastes. I've been to dozens of fancy pizza joints with high dollar wood, coal, and probably nuclear fired ovens. But the pizzas that come out of the ovens here are better. With a really hot oven, you almost always get some burnt crust, but these ovens (the same type I remember from the standard NY pizza parlors), seem to control the heat better. In my subsequent visits (I go once every 1-2 weeks) almost every pie had the same beautifully cooked crust. Add the fact that they don't skimp on the mozzarella, which seems to be pretty good quality, and you have a damn near perfect pie. I have been back quite a few times, and I've had many of the toppings, which are all good and plentiful. But it seems to me like I'm masking what is an almost perfect cheese pizza. So for a change up, I'll get a meatball pie, or a Greek pizza, or pepperoni which are all great, but my favorite is still that perfect plain cheese pizza. Now I haven't tried many other items on the menu, but the chicken and greek salads are really good. They use freshly grilled chicken and the chicken salad comes with grilled onions, which are nicely caramelized. Since I love feta, I usually get the Greek chicken salad and ask them to grill the onions. So now that I've made myself hungry thinking about pizza, I'm probably going to hit Giuseppi's up tomorrow night. Pizza, salad, and cold beer is my usual order and costs less then what my wife and I pay for the movie we usually see after dinner there.

2 slices and a drink for $4.50 = Good Value Pizza has nice crispy crust but is too cheesy (greasy) and bland (as others have said) for me. I've had quite a few things here over the years and it's all been A-OK. I really would only go for the $4.50 special.

Finding an independently owned pizza place around here is a rare treat. It is so nice to find something other than the awful chains that litter our strip malls serving awful attempts at pizza. Giuseppi's delivers that authentic hand tossed pizza parlor experience to an area that is seriously lacking it. The pizza looks good, but always tastes very bland to me. I've been here several times. Salt helps but I think they need a spicier sauce and maybe to salt the dough. The pizza is so bland tasting that when you try to spice it up with red pepper or salt...all you taste is the salt or red pepper...it doesn't help to bring out the flavor which is missing all together. I gave them 3 stars because I love what they do, but they really need to put some punch in the 'za.

There are no other NY pizza places in MOCO like it. The crust is crispy yet chewy and the Cheese does the teenage mutant ninja turtle pizza cheese stretch which is always a good sign of a great pizza. I love this location.... I have been to the one in rockville and was very disappointed so needless to say I will only be going here. great prices and great pizza, can't beat it !!!

I was debating whether to give four or five stars. What pushed me over the top? I asked myself a simple question: if I could order pizza from any place in MoCo where would I order from? The answer is Giuseppi's. I order pizza and salad from Giusepp's all the time. They say that a pizza is only as good as its crust. I could eat the crust from this place by itself, and I'm not normally a big crust fan. There is a slight tartness and liveliness to the crust that makes it stand out. When it comes fresh out of the oven, it's usually spotted with large bubbles that are to die for. It's crispy where it needs to be and doughy where it needs to be. They also make a veggie salad that they top with their pizza cheese which is great too. Simply put, this is the best pizza I've had outside of NYC.

Having been here since for 10+ years, I have to say that this little pizza place is a great place for (a) curly fries and (b) pizza...sorry, I haven't tried anything else here. Their pizza is a bit on the "runny" side but it always come out piping hot. If you're in Kentlands and craving pizza, def worth a try.

  • A B.

If you are looking for true ny style pizza (because you have actually had real ny/nj pizza in ny or nj) this is not the place. To get a special slice they take a cheese slice and then add the toppings. You can't go in and just pick a slice. The crust and dough were completely tasteless. First time I could pass on eating crust. Its like eating a Plain bagel from Panera and thinking you are eating something really good. Still looking for a good ny style pizza place inmontgomery county!!

I love this place. They have this everyday special where you get 2 slices of cheese pizza and a medium fountain soda for 4.50 and 50 cents for additional toppings. Their pizza is (typically) not greasy at all and full of flavor. Their sauce is delicious and not overbearing and they have these huge pieces of feathered mozzerella that melts on the pizza to perfect. The only thing that gets me is their crust is missing something that steers it from being the best slice in the Gaithersburg area. The crust is perfectly crispy but towards the end, after all the cheese and sauce is gone, it falls short by itself. But who cares, I go anyway, add a little garlic and forget my troubles. The staff there is very friendly and laid back and they are fast too. I can get in and out and then run errands on my lunch break. It is a must try! The pizza isn't the only thing that keeps be coming back. They hav a Hot Chicken Salad that is basically a regular salad that is topped with their yummy feathered mozzerella, well seasoned grilled chicken and fried onions! Praise [enter your preferred spiritual leader here]!!!! This salad is a silent moment of bliss! The only other item I have tried on this menu is the Italian Cold Cut Sub. My roommate introduced me to their subs and she was definitely right. One of the best I have ever had. So Kudos to them! I haven't tried much else though the menu does seem intriguing. The everyday special hits the spot everytime and I tend to stay comfortable with that. You know what, I am going to challenge myself and try something different here. Updates to come! The only downside to this place is they are very limited on the deliveries. They deliver after 5pm (they close at 9pm) and to a select area. Therefore, if I am busy at work or if I have a sudden midday craving, I have to truck all the way to the Kentlands to do so. I end up stopping at Ledos before I do that. Man, if they delivered, 5 stars all the way! Toodles~

I do agree with the reviewers that anything but the pizza is very, very, very average ... AT BEST. BUT ... oh the pizzzzzaaaaaa ... If I had to choose one New York style slice in the DC area ... I'd actually choose Giuseppi's. The crust is an odd variant ... almost pretzel bread ... but it's so tasty and it really holds the cheese and sauce well. Yes, I know pizza ... have probably surfed around this area for 100 different slices ... and Giuseppi's is more enjoyable than Potomac, Vace, Flippin', etc.

It may have been an off night, but.......it just wasn't very good. We went for dinner, and got the pizza by the slice. I've just had much better NY style pizza. I guess it would be acceptable for the lunch special.

Stick to the Two slice with soda special. And only for lunch. Anything else is pitiful. This place reminds me of a typical college pizza joint. Something you would find in College Park instead of the Kentlands.

I love this pizza! Yes, I love it. Never go for lunch, and hardly ever get a slice. We usually order a cheese pizza since I am a vegetarian. Growing up in northern NJ, a perfect pizza to me is crispy on the bottom, with that little bit of flour that gives texture on your hands, upper side of crust is really moist, a little bit of sauce with authentic marinara sauce and gobs of gooey cheese. The kind of cheese that when you bite into it, pulls away from you like taffy. Of course it has grease, that means its not some chemical impersonation of cheese that has been reengineered to meet the fastidious mewlings of people who don't want to get their fingers messy. You know its a good pizza place when they have garlic salt. I never eat leftovers but pizza is an exception. My family likes Papa Johns which churns out so so pizza with zero originality. After suffering through a few of those, I am dying for a Guiseppe's pizza. Plus Guiseppi's is an independent business which makes me love it even more. If you want a designer pizza with pineapple head over to California Pizza Kitchen in a mall. If you want a real pizza that tastes awesome and has the sensory experience of a crisp, gooey and classic, pizza get yourself to Guiseppi's.

The best New York style pizza outside of New York City. With a highly skilled pizza cooker making the pizzas at this restaurant, he makes some of the very best New York style pizza outside of New York City. The dough, pizza sauce and cheese cooked with the New York know how, results in the best New York style pizza having a great crust that is available in Montgomery County and at a very reasonable price. They also have some real good side salads -- try one with their excellent Italian dressing. And, their steak and cheese subs made on a fresh, crusty roll is another treat at this restaurant.

Solid pizza joint.... they 2 slice and a soda special is a great deal but if you have more than one person you would be better of buying a hot fresh pie. The reheated slices are far less tasty than a fresh pie from the oven that has the toppings cooked with it, rather than thrown on for the reheat. If you order onions, they put far too many on and if you get them with the slices, they are raw, so you are eating slightly warmed raw onions. The crust is doughy and they often don't bring the sauce out far enough so you are left with a big crust... that, and they don't hold back on the cheese, so you get some grease and goo... better to let the pizza cool a few minutes to start the congeal. The subs are good, fries are curly. Decent salads, especially like the hot chicken salad. Bonus that they sell beer too. Service is also efficient. The interior could greatly benefit from an upgrade to make it feel like a restaurant vs. a carry-out... They have all tables, bright lights and a very high unfinished industrial ceiling.... how about putting in some booths around the perimeter and a drop ceiling? Great for kids, but you end up dropping unnecessary dollars on their arcade games. Personally I would be better off without them.

As others have said, the pizza is bland. As long as the ingredients are good, that's what matters most to me. You can always add some seasoning to a pizza after its cooked. The crust is like an old-fashioned wholesome crust where it doesn't feel like your biting into a sponge at Dominos or Poppa Johns where they lace everything with spices and seasoning to hide who knows what. If you're looking for pizza with pre-seasoned zing, this place may not be for you. I you want pizza that's got a mild, fresh flavor without a funky aftertaste, give Guiseppi's a try.

Want to grab some exceptionally greasy pizza and fries? This is the place to do it. You'll be full, and so will your coronary arteries. This is pretty much fast food style pizza at its best. They're pretty generous with toppings and will do them by the slice, and their fries are a treat.

Really enjoy the atmosphere here and the staff is very hospitable with great service. I mainly get the 2 slice pizza special and a drink. Sometimes I get a regular side salad to help fill me up and get my veggies in. When I feel like being bad, the curly fries or onion rings are my go to. My favorite pizza in the area. Not too many places around here where you can order a slice or two on a paper plate. Just like New York!

The price was great- 2 cheese slices and a Coke for $5.25? Yes please! I really liked the paper thin, crackling crisp crust. The sauce was bland but I recall reading that's the traditional Italian way. It's not what I'm used to but I didn't mind it. I wouldn't return for one simple reason- the restaurant is dirtier than Ndamukong Suh. The non-slip mats on the floors are filthy, as are the walls. Even though there was only one other customer eating when we arrived, there were crumbs and trash under tables. I even saw ants crawling around the table. Not exactly confidence inspiring about the state of the kitchen.

Solid 3 to 3 1/2 stars. I've mainly come here for lunch for their 2 slices of pizza and soda special. Their pizzas are greasy, so just soak up the grease with napkins. Add little parm n oregano, it tastes good. I put napkins under my pizza slices when I get pepperoni too. Helps quite a bit. Their Curley fries are tasty. I add some parm to it with lots of catsup. Their chicken wings are deep fried and comes with blue cheese. They don't coat their wings with any sauce, just plain fried wings. Some of my friends didn't care for them. I liked them. I do like their steak salads. Lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions and meat (lots of it). Good no carb option. Haven't tried their subs or sandwiches in quite a long time. Jersey Mikes original Italian sandwich is so good, will need to try their Italian sub here to compare. Only pizza place in Kentlands that offers pizza by the slice, besides Whole Foods, who now has wood fired pizza.

Look, if you've ever had New York style pizza, or any decent pizza in your life, then you will want to avoid this place at all costs. I have no idea what the others are talking about. I got a half plain half speciality pizza, so they had the double the opportunity to impress me. While the pizza LOOKED good, I have never had anything so flavorless in my life. The tomato sauce tastes almost watered down because it had no zest. Each time I took a bite, I wanted to take another only because I had a small taste of tomato and wanted more. But it was never enough; it was like drinking salt water. The crust almost seemed like it was perfectly done, golden brown with a hint of charring. The tragedy was that the bread, as the sauce, had absolutely no flavor. I have had all types of bread from around the world, but I couldn't find a culture that would pass this off as a bread of their cuisine. It had no flavor, therefore, it had no use. And the cheese, or whatever that was. The cheese is supposed to have a little saltiness to it. Oh, and flavor would be nice. But I ate the pizza and didn't even know it existed. It is the only time where "bland as bread" is not an appropriate phrase because the cheese, somehow, was blander than the bread. The specialty had no flavor either, even though it had 4 ingredients. The only thing that stuck out was the imported ham, which was good. In summary, if you want to have delicious ham, there are more efficient and cheaper ways to eat it. Avoid if you're a pizza snob, enjoy if you have no taste, as it will taste like everything else.

Sigh. This place used to be better. Not amazing, but edible - at least a solid three stars. They have an everyday special on two slices and a drink, which was great when the pizza was actually palatable. Recently, I've received nothing but soggy, greasy tomato soaked bread with cheese on it (I refuse to call it pizza - it's not pizza) from here, with wax paper stuck to it. Call me picky, but I like for my pizza to actually hold its shape when I pick it up. Maybe New York pizza has spoiled me.

Just ordered delivery from here, ordered a two topping large pizza and an order of fries. Paleo, no. Delicious, yes and no. The Fries were undercooked and they are delivered in a paper basket with a piece of foil over the top, all this in a paper bag, so they really have no chance to stay hot and the foil traps the moisture, making them soggy. Cold and gooey, good for pudding, not fries. The pizza on the other hand was piping hot, good flavor on the sausage, but not much pepperoni flavor. Good cheese and a lot of it. The crust was a bit soggy on the inside of the pie, but the crust had a nice crunch and flavor. I'll order pizza again from Giuseppie's.

I love Giuseppi's! Their pizza special (2 slices of pizza plus a drink) is cheap, their hot chicken salad is amazing, and their chicken tenders and fries are some of our go-to's. It's also 5 minutes from our house, so very convenient for us! We are usually here at least once a month and are always back for more :)

After reading some of the reviews, I can see why you either love it or hate it. I fall into the latter category. We got two pies to go, one full of meat and the other full of veggies (in a white sauce), to placate the "savages" at home. There should be no surprises that this is thin crust pizza. Given that veggie pizzas are usually pretty soggy from the extra fluids, they did a terrific job keeping the crust crisp (BIG plus) on the pie, which was filled with spinach, artichoke hearts, and red peppers. There was also plenty o' cheese on both pies; however, there was a serious lack of seasoning on the pie. Big mistake - no salt, no flavor, no like. The meat pizza was a bit better and had some taste from the toppings, but it wasn't enough to sway me. This should have been a red sauce driven pie, but they put so little on the pie, it was as if there wasn't any on the pie at all. The meatballs were not meatballs at all, but slices of meatballs. It works for the pie, but I was rather disappointed I didn't get more chunks. I would give this a single star for price relative to taste, but the veggie pie was crispy, which is seldom observed, which pushes this up to two stars.

Sadly, I was underwhelmed. I really wanted some pizza, this place had decent reviews and a great deal (two slices of cheese pizza and a large drink for $4.99!). Awesome, right? Well, color me disappointed when I got my pizza. It was burned on the bottom, dried out and bland. I'll give this place another try because everyone has an off day and I'm all about second chances. They were really friendly and quick so that was a plus. Hoping it's a better experience next time.

I decided to try this place since I was in the area and it got pretty good reviews, it's good tast for Maryland but does not meet New York City pizza standards at all, oh well, the search continues .... But overall my experience was pretty good with decent prices.

I used to love this place, and the pizza special is still great. HOWEVER, the last couple times I have been in, the grownups all seem to have stayed home. Good food cannot make up for being served by rude or disinterested kids. They all seemed to be having fun, but that is not what I am paying for. I realized the rudeness was a one time deal the last time i was there, and not entirely fair because everyone had bad days. I also was so irritated i didn't speak about the food. They have a steak salad that is great. Grilled onions, steak, and cheese on a good sized salad. A salad is a whole meal, and best with the house dressing, which they make in house. I purchased extra dressing to take home because it was so good. The 2 slice pizza special including adrink at about $5 is a great deal also; get the sausage, it is slides of sausage, not sausage crumbles. Another good bet is the fried zucchini sticks, you can pretend it is a vegetable even thigh it is fried with marinara sauce.

UPDATE: Nearly 7 months after the incident outlined below, the stolen item was returned to me and my daughter by a manager at Giuseppi's. He found it in the possession of one of their employees, who was promptly fired by one of the owners the following day. Sadly, the other owner who is normally at this location and chose to defend his staff / yell at my wife for insinuating that one of his staff was behind the theft hasn't even bothered to offer an apology. Props to the manager for doing the right thing and going above and beyond to contact us and return the stolen iPad. And thanks to the other owners who spend most of their time at the Rockville location for being stand-up people and caring about their customers. ORIGINAL REVIEW: BEWARE OF THIEVES OPERATING OUT OF THIS RESTAURANT!!! I used to be a big fan of Giuseppi's as a little hole-in-the wall with decent pizza, but not any more. While eating there recently, my 7 year old daughter had her iPad stolen by thieves, possibly employees of the restaurant. Customers need to beware, especially since the owner doesn't seem to care and their video security cameras are illegally turned off. While waiting for their pizza to be ready, my wife and two younger children were entertaining themselves trying to play some video games. There was barely anyone in the restaurant, and my daughter put down her iPad on the table next to the game, only to find it gone when she turned back around. Not only did the restaurant staff not care, but they refused to allow the Montgomery County police department to look behind the counter or in the back room to ensure that no one had stashed it there! They also told the police that they knew that the security cameras were inoperable... To add insult to the situation, when my wife returned the next day to share news of the incident with the restaurant's owner, he yelled at her for even insinuating that one of his staff might have been involved in the theft. What a way to treat a long-time customer! I'm not normally one to write reviews, especially bad ones, but I'd suggest that anyone who is worried about their safety and security stay away from Giuseppe's Pizza Plus. The owner and staff obviously don't care about what happens to their patrons, and may even be involved themselves. They seem content to allow the place to turn into a den of thieves.

Want to grab some exceptionally greasy pizza and fries? This is the place to do it. You'll be full, and so will your coronary arteries. This is pretty much fast food style pizza at its best. They're pretty generous with toppings and will do them by the slice, and their fries are a treat.

  • Mitch M.

  • Laura H.

I just ate there again. Delicious but once you get to the crust, you realize it still needs salt. I hope the owner/operators read this: Add salt to the dough!!!!

    (2)
  • R Q.
