This review is for happy hour Street parking available. There are also other parking areas that you can park at. Parking is not hard to find. Located in the intersection of Looneys, Tutti Frutti and Grill...? Yummy sangrias The white sangria is very light, I could barely taste the alcohol. I do not like the taste of alcohol very much so this was really good.. It reminded me of the white grape juice. I also really enjoyed the red sangria :) The food was not as good as I thought it would be. We ordered everything from the happy hour menu. Nothing really stood out. I would not get the shrimp dish. They give you 3 pieces of shrimp that is overcooked and the fried chicken was okay but you get 4 pieces for $4. I can just go to McDonalds and get the chicken strips and they're bigger than the chicken here. I heard the food was good so I think I'd go for the food but probably not for HH unless I'm getting sangria which is $2 OFF NOT $2 :)

Great little gem in the area. Loved the ribeye, salmon avocado sushi, and ceviche!

Ok. It is not truly spanish tapas style but the food is enjoyable nevertheless. The wine flight selection is pretty good and interesting wine. The decor is loungy and giod enough for business luch or dinner for out of town guests. I didnt remember hearing any music. But then again I was chatting with my friend most of the time. The restroom is across the hall outside of the restaurant, so it is not convenient. There were people hanging out at the bar even after dinner hour.

Just barely passable. Food was good overall but unimpressive. The Peruvian chicken plate featured a rubbery, formed breast-sized slab with a sauce but no discernable Peruvian spices. Wines by the glass were overpriced and their small selection was spotty. Hits and misses don't stand when there are 20 options. The cocktail list was pretty dates and uninteresting. This is tapas and wine for piña colada drinkers.

Great hidden place for tapas. Tried it for the first time for restaurant week. Great food and atmosphere. Need more beer selections. A little pricey though.

The food here is always very good. The small plates allow for a verity of dishes to the shared. The staff are attentive to you needs. This is a great place to have dinner.

We often go for the Ranazul for their happy hour probably once every other week. The bartender, Jeremy, is always friendly and the wine pours are great. It's almost too generous (not complaining!). For tapas, we've always enjoyed their ceviche, a nice balance of sour and sweet. They recently changed the preparation and cut up the shrimp and calamari so it's easier to get onto the chips, a nice change. The frito mixto is delicious, crispy fried calamari and shrimp, and often the second one we order. We've tried a few other tapas as well, always been pleased, but those two are probably our #1 and #2 favorites. We've ordered a few entrees since the first time I wrote a review and their scallops are delicious. The preparation has changed a few times but it's always been delicious, the scallops are cooked perfectly. We have yet to go for a full dinner, though it's on our to do list!

The service was great from our one server. The place was completely empty on this Saturday and I was the only person there. The food was good however completely ridiculous small portions for the price. I ordered the ceviche for an appetizer - nothing to brag about or even talk about. Could have been alot better and it was a total of about 5 bites. Way too small for $12. I also ordered the pan seared scallops. For $16 you get 3 scallops over some diced up tomatoes & zucchini in a buttery sauce. Only a couple of bites - To me I felt like it was a sample plate - Great taste but definitely not worth $16 you will still be hungry. I also ordered the grilled peach salad. This salad was a bit comical. More for looks - only a couple of leaves lettuce - peaches werent so much grilled and the dressing could greatly improve for this salad. The portion was less than a couple of bites. They try to make it look like its decent sized by piling on friend onions however I was not impressed with this salad at all. I also ordered the grilled tuna entree. For $30 I expected much more on the plate. Thick piece of tuna however small portion and the sides were barely there except for deco. To sum up I myself ate the ceviche, peach salad and scallops and was still very hungry after that $40. Total was over $70 and I left hungry. Taste of food was there but I cannot really recommend based on the prices and portions. I forgot to mention I had a cocktail and it was the weakest drink ever. My waiter was good! Friendly, patient, accomodating, etc. Forgot his name - younger male with green/blue eyes.

I'm at a lost for words about this place. I had no idea Fulton had such great taste when it came to delicious Tapas. We stumbled on Restaurant Week where we got 4 courses for 35.00. That was a steal because 3-4 tapas could cost you well over that amount. Our first courses were the Peach Grilled Salad and Sopa Azteca. The Sopa was AMAAAAAZING. It had just the right amount of heat and citrus...OMG it was yummy. Next course I had the scallops and he tried the salmon (I'm allergic to nuts so no salmon for me) but the scallops were perfect. They were so GOOD! Our third course we went for the MEAT! I had the Brazilian Steak with garlic mash and he had the Petite Fillet with Portabella Mushroom. We ate it all! I don't know how we had room for our dessert but we did! Creamy Creme Brulee and rich Molten Chocolate Cake. I sent pics of all my food and told my girls we HAVE to come back here! The atmosphere was great - a good mixed crowd. Our server Mariano (sp) was great. Very attentive and cute!!! I also noticed a happy hour special on drinks...can't be that!

Food was good for the most part. We really enjoyed the artichoke salad, tuna tartare, and scallops. The Peruvian chicken was over cooked and subpar. The waiter was friendly but not very knowledgable about the drinks and food menu. The decor in the restaurant is very nice. Good experience overall but not very memorable.

OK, Fulton! I see you?! Since when did you get a chic on me, eh? Yes, it's a 'burb, but you won't feel like it dining here. Ranazul is super loungy and has a great upscale feel to it. Not only that, but the food is even better than the ambiance. I got the Caesar Salad for an appetizer and Salmon and loved the way it was prepared, with a light sauce that didn't overpower the fish and a side of greens. My husband got the short rib confit and demolished it with gusto! I was able to stab my fork in there quickly in between his jabs and took a bite myself. FANTASTIC! We were there with several other couples, who got the Artichoke Salad, Sopa Azteca and the Fried Manchego Cheese. They all had smiles on their faces as they ate, so I think they liked it. We finished off the meal with Sopapillas - a lightly fried pastry with a hunk of delicious ice cream in the center! YUM YUM! Great for groups. Great for date nights. Just great!

Well this rest has a nice environment the staff was really friendly and nice the bar was nice , amm i recomend the duck salad noce flavors, my only problem was that 1 the Peruvian chicken was over cooked and the mustard seasoning had a good flavor but had NOTHING TO DO WITH A PERUVIAN DISH , no one in peru uses those ingredients as a seasoning for a chicken so plz dont say its a peruvian chiken when you are going to deliver something that has nothing to do with peru ( i used to live in peru if. U are asking why i know this ) ammm after that i has the arepas im sorry but they are everything but an arepa they where just a mushy mix of fake dough , the soup was also plane and flavorless and the ceviche one of the "kill ur self and do us a favor chef" kind , i really enjoyed the 6 oz stake was cooked to perfection and had an awesome flavor ammm the food might. Not be baaad is just that i felt like they where trying to sell food that they dont know how to cook to impress people that dont know about thay food , and that is something that shouldnt happen in a rest , as i said it has a nice concept but uhh

NOT WORTH IT. Everything is ridiculously priced for the quality of food. I had the Tuna Tartare and it was just covered in a mayo sauce and just not appetizing. I also had the Creme Brulee which was below average. The crust was not thick enough and it was more of a custard than anything. My fiance had the molten chocolate cake and that was mediocre as well. That plus two small espressos came out to $50 for the check which I could have had better food for better quality many other places. The service and the atmosphere was nice though. If they had better food then I could see the prices being worth it for the entire experience but they definitely dropped the ball.

Great restaurant! The serving sizes aren't what I would describe as Tapas, with 1 Tapas item and a dessert or appetizer to share it was plenty of food. We had a groupon so the price was great, even without it it would have been a reasonable price for what they offered. Fried chicken was juicy and tender, pork tenderloin was perfectly seasoned and the sopapillas were excellent, perfectly fried and crispy with no excess oil. We would definitely go again even without a groupon.

First time at Ranazul and I must say I cannot wait to return. In short, the food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Our party of 6 arrived (we had a reservation) and the table was ready and our waiter was prompt with orders and drinks. I had the white sangria, which came with chunks of fruit and was very refreshing. I started with the crispy duck salad, which was a little different then I anticipated but I enjoyed it none the less. The duck itself was a little too crispy and flavorless, almost with a burnt oil taste, but it paired well with the honey soy dressing. Two in our party also had the pear salad and artichoke salad, and they commented that it was great. 4/5 stars. I went on to have the 6oz. ribeye which comes with spinach, grilled potatoes and sauteed onions in a red wine reduction. One word about the steak - WOW! It was perfectly cooked to my liking. The spinach was tasty and so were the onions. The onions had a slightly sour taste, but it matched very well with the sauce on the steak. My only complaint was that the potatoes were a little on the dry side. Otherwise, this dish was a solid 4.5/5 stars. I also had a chance to try the fried manchego cheese, which was sweet and different. Very rich, but it was nice to share with the table. I finished my meal with the carrot cake. This is the one part I wasn't terribly fond of. It was presented nicely with a scoop of ice cream and it had a crunchy crust on the outside of the cake. The cake itself was a little lacking in flavor. This was a good 3.5/5 stars. In addition to the new and different food, our service was outstanding. Overall we had a great experience and I would certainly return again.

My husband and I dined here for the first time last night. We had a great experience. Our server was very friendly and helpful. The Short Rib Confit was excellent! As was a shrimp and avocado plate! We drank beer with our food, Brewer's Art Resurrection for my husband, and a Blue Moon for me, but it looked like they had a great Wine selection, too. We plan to go back and check out their happy hour specials because it is a bit expensive. I do believe their prices are accurate, however, based on the flavor, quality, and unique dishes, as well as the peaceful atmosphere and great service.

No better food around-Ranazul chefs are consistent with their outstanding preparation of the various dishes. I've had only delicious food at Ranazul. The service is always right on! Nathan is a great server, personable and efficient. As well, you can talk as there is light music in the background which is pleasant. 5 stars!

Amazing find in Fulton ! I like that this classy place is across from rowdy Looneys lol Went with the ladies and we really enjoyed ourselves. The ambience was kind of dull (we were actually the only group dining indoors) but their tapas selection is nice and variegated. Personally, I liked the ceviche, salmon medallions and scallops; and although I would consider myself a cheese connoisseur, I found the fried manchego in honey to be too heavy . Very pleased to find an interesting tapas place near Burtonsville

We have been eating out frequently lately in the hopes to find a restaurant close by that did not have a 2 hour wait and had a good food worth leaving home for. Our results have been underwhelming and disappointing - until tonight when we choose to go to Ranazul. We ordered 3 tapas - Sautéed Asparagus w/ garlic, shaved Parmesan cheese, and caper anchovy butter, Salmon Medallion, and the Rack of Lamb. Every bite pure pleasure. Our cocktails were very good as well. We almost never get a desert, but we couldn't resist since everything had been so wonderful. We finished our meal with the Creme Brulée - perfect. We are thrilled to have found Ranazuls and can't wait to go back. - P.S. There was plenty of parking in the area and no wait

One of our favorite places for Tapas in Howard County. The Salmon Avacado Sushi and Ceviche are very fresh seafood dishes. Our favorite starter is the Artichoke Salad. And I never knew I would like anchovies until I tries the Asparagus dish with anchovy butter. Ambience makes it great for a date nice. And good selection of wines by the glass.

I love this place from the venue to the food, and the service. I am completely and utterly lost for words, because I did not expect having such a great experience. What also blew me away was the location of the restaurant. The restaurant is located towards a more suburban area, but when you're dining here, it seems more like a restaurant that is meant for DC (or the city) because the venue is very elegant/swank. In my honest opinion, just close your eyes and try anything on the menu because I've had a good portion of the menu and the tapas are all magnificent! Yes, the ambiance is great, the venue is great, service even better, but the food is amazing! They also have a wine list that goes well with the tapas. Although I personally believe "all" the entrees to be amazing, here are few of the entrees I remember having that I recommend: -Tuna Tartar -Pan Seared Scallops -Lamb Chops -Steamed Mussels (so good!) -Fried Manchego Cheese (so good!) -Short Rib Confit -Sopa Azteca -Peach Grilled Salad

A superb meal in a brilliant architectural setting and delightful atmosphere. We went on Sunday evening, and Guitar Bruce was filling the place with flamenco-inspired pop tunes, so it was especially nice. The waiters were polite and well-informed and the food was excellent. We enjoyed a "Dining Week" prix fixe all around, so the price was right as well. My Sopa Azteca was flavorful and fresh, the tortilla crisps still very crisp as I started. Others had potato soup, peach salad for starters. My cashew-crusted salmon was not the advertised medallion but a generous slab, accompanied by grilled zucchini and very tasty grilled pineapple with arugula. Others enjoyed scallops, shrimp with mango sauce, all tasty and fresh. Desserts included molten chocolate cake, creme brulee with raspberries, etc. The experience was absolutely top notch.

Met a friend here for a late dinner. I was running errands in the area and he works nearby. Despite what yelp says, the kitchen is only open until 9:30 during the week. This means that you can only order the hot tapas or mains before 9:30. They will still serve the cold tapas after 9:30, but do not go at 10 expecting to be allowed to order from the entire menu. That being said, we luckily arrived around 8:45 and were able to get all of our orders in before "last call". For drinks I had a glass of the Albarino and my friend ordered the Leigh's Hot and Dirty Martini. My Albarino was fine but oh my stars was the martini to die for. Granted, it is vodka not gin (let's save that argument for another time) but wow - Grey Goose martini, dirty, with a splash of tabasco. For a spice-addict like myself, this was just the right balance of salty, spicy, and refreshing - not so spicy as to overpower the food, but with a nice enough kick that one notices. I ordered one when I finished my wine. For food, for two of us, we shared 4 dishes. The first dish to arrive was the fried manchego cheese - almond encrusted manchego, fried, and topped with honey, and raspberries. This was really quite delightful and I would most definitely order it again, but I think it would be even better if the chef could find a way to add a bit of heat (spice) to the dish. Our second dish were the mussels - steamed in white wine with garlic, onions, and butter. Cooked perfectly, served with the right amount of bread, all around a solid dish. Our third and fourth dishes arrived at the same time but couldn't be more different quality-wise. The patatas bravas - cubed, fried potatoes with garlic aioli and habanero salsa were fine, but I wouldn't order them again. Cubes of potatoes with sauce on the side - I could make these at home and that really isn't what I am looking for when I am spending over $70 on a meal. They don't come anywhere near the patatas bravas at Jaleo. On the opposite end of the spectrum is the 6 oz ribeye (medium-rare) - amazing. (Keep in mind that this is a tapas restaurant so the cut of meat is generally smaller and a bit thinner than normal, therefore, it is advisable to order it a bit less done than one normally would.) Cooked perfectly with a delicious char and the potato and spinach that accompanied it were lovely. The onions on the other were practically inedible - too much vinegar. All in all, I would go back to Ranazul the next time I am in the neighborhood but I would not make a special trip to MD to eat here. And I will be more particular with my selections.

Went to Ranazul for the first time and we're most likely not coming back. The food was just ok. My spouse ordered the Tuna Tartar which lacked seasoning (a pinch of salt was very needed) and the flatbread which was on the salty side. I also got the prie fixe dinner where you get a choice of appetizer, soup, main and desert. I ended up getting the tortilla soup which tasted ok but had a lot of cheese at the bottom of the soup, the shrimp/camaron de tequila was good (wished the serving was bigger), a 6 oz ribeye with a piece of roasted potato and some sauted spinach. It tasted ok but I had to send it back to the kitchen since it wasn't cooked to my preference. The course I liked the most was the molten chocolate cake. It wasn't too sweet, just right. If only the rest of the meal was on par with it.

Beautiful Ambiance and Excellent service. I had the crispy duck salad with arugula and orange soy dressing for my starter. The amount of dressing was just right and the duck was not too oily, crispy and flavorful. For my I ordered the Peruvian chicken dressed in Dijon mustard accompanied with spinach and two small potato slices. In my opinion the two medium sized sliced boneless chicken breasts were almost drowning in dijon sauce but was edible and decent nonetheless. That will be my first and last time ordering that entree. Their menu has a nice variety of entrees, salads and hot and cold tapas. I will definately be back to try out other menu items and enjoy the cozy restaurant. You will be treated like a valued customer!!

Love this place! Great food, great atmosphere and great service! I highly recommend dining with them during restaurant week. They have amazing deals and unlike other places, you will be treated just as you would if it were not restaurant week. Also, in the fall and winter they have amazing hot cocktails!

What a great find in Maple Lawn! This is a really classy place with the dim lighting and décor that really brings this place together. I've always loved tapas since it's small in portions which allow you to try a little bit of everything. When I came here, I ordered the Peppermint Patty which has: Creme de Cacao, Creme de Menthe, peppermint Schnapps and whipped cream. It was simply delectable and exactly what I needed. For my entrée(s), I ordered a plate of scallops and steak with potatoes. It seems they constantly change the menu so it doesn't seem these options can no long be available anymore :(. Service was great. My glass of water was always full and our waitress checked up on us quite a bit. Our bill however took quite a while to get back to us.

What crap! I basically paid $130+ for food I could've made better at home. C'mon who are they fooling?! Don't get me wrong, I love tapas but you can see right through this restaurants bluff. I ordered wine and it tasted like vinegar.. I wanted to send it back and got interrogated by someone other person than our waiter ( she looked so perplexed as to why I couldn't drink it) uhm maybe cause it's gone bad and it tastes like it?! Not looking for any handouts! Don't order the calamari shrimp mixto it's crap seems like it's right out of Cisco restaurant delivery - you know the fake stuff. Don't order the flatbread it's Italian bread with loads of cheese and some tart olive spread and tastes terrible. The quesadillas- terrible. The pork loin chewy. The salmon - was decent at best. Seems like an amature came up w this menu. Will never step foot in here again. Oh and the sopapillas a joke too! What kind of restaurant is this. Our anniversary dinner ruined.

The Tuna tartare is INCREDIBLE!!!! I wish i could just eat that the whole time. The Steamed Mussels are good, petit fillet was good, the ceviche is ok, patata bravas are ok (practically just french fries though) and the fried oysters are ok. I still can't get over the tuna tartare though... the rest weren't that memorable. This place is a little too pricey but it's a elegant dining kind of place.

I went to Ramazul for the first time tonight and thought the food was excellent. I had the pork with onions which came with a great sauce. However, the service wasn't good- I had to ask another waiter several times to get our waitress because we didn't get everything we ordered. She finally came and apologized for forgetting part of our order. Also, no one ever came over to our table to ask if we wanted more coffee or tea. If the service would have been good, I would have given 5 stars. We will try it one more time to see if things improve. Paula B,

I ate here for lunch and it was delicious. I had the Ensalada de Filete and I really enjoyed the addition of blue cheese crumbles and almonds. It really added a great flavor. My waitress was also very pleasant and attentive during my whole dining experience. I really liked my lunch here, and it was great service. I will definitely be returning.

Didn't feel like cooking and decided to drop by this local restaurant on a whim! It was early around 5:30 P.M. there was a bustling crowd at the bar. We got a table for two and had a great server (Mike). Water glasses were filled regularly. For a young waiter Mike had great skills and directed me to a really good white wine and to the best dishes. We ordered crispy duck salad. Slamming good my husband says. Sweet dressing lots of crispy duck and a portion large enough to share. We ordered Patatas Bravas (nice garlic aioli), Fried Green Tomatoe (w/seafood), perfectly cooked scallops, and lamb chops (tapas portion - 5 small yummy chops)... The food came out super hot - something you rarely get anywhere! Really excited to go back again sometime. One thing unrelated to the restaurant is that the road in and out of the parking area is dangerous - stop signs for only one way and the people who are desperate to leave work drive recklessly and fast.

This place went really downhill since our last visit about a year ago which we enjoyed. Did the chef change because menu changed a bit and the some of the items we liked before tasted much worse. The service wasn't as good either. I don't think I'll be going back.

I'm just going to echo what everyone else seems to be saying here. The service was outstanding (thank you, Noah!) and the food was VERY good. The salmon medallions were my hands-down favorite. We also tried the gazpacho and Cuban chicken - both good. The only (slight) miss was the crème brulee - which has coffee in it - so the color is off-putting (for me) and the taste was unexpected. I guess I'm more of a purist when it comes to crème brulee. We heard about the happy hour while we were there and will definitely be back for that. Atmosphere in the restaurant was lovely. Again - service was top-notch!

Took advantage of restaurant week and the prefixe menu. The salmon dish with zucchini and squash was too salty and I couldn't finish it. The scallops were good but the fried topping was very oily. Thumbs up to the filet! Amazingly tender and tasty. Our server seemed inexperienced and didn't have much information about the dishes. It was also very empty when we went and I had to ask for my water to be refilled three times. Not the best service considering the prices. Other than that, I wasn't too impressed and would not go back even for the filet.

New to the Columbia area and craving tapas, I found this place on a whim Monday eve around 4:45pm on a Monday and had the WHOLE place to my friend & I. I love tapas, and I love the atmosphere and music unique to Tapas restaurants. Ever been to Pazos? Gorgeous place! This place was nothing like that. Classy, but had very little atmosphere. I had been craving 2 dishes, potatoes & tuna tartar, as well as sangria. Thank goodness they were both on the limited menu I was given. I suppose I was there very early. I did call ahead despite what Yelp said, because most Tapas places are not open until after 5pm, and some are even closed on Mondays. I went ahead and ordered the Patatas with aioli, which were decent but felt more like I was eating a kind of french fry side. Doesn't come close to Tapas Teatros baby potatoes with aioli, so I still crave those. The tuna on the other hand was amazing, and even came over a bed of fresh seaweed salad. Yummies! Craving, satisfied! I then ordered the quesadillas and the black olive mozz bruschetta. Both very good, but I could only muster my way through one of the bruschettas. I think I had too much cheese by that point, and I could only handle so much black olive tapenade for one day. Finally, to the sangria. By far the most disappointing part of my afternoons tapas adventure. When I finally admitted to the waitress that I frankly thought it tasted oddly gross, she informed me it was the last of the batch. We concluded that the bottom of the barrel never tastes good, and I'd come back when they had had time to make some new adult fruit juice. To which end I intend to. Brunch on sunday you say? I'll be there! Oh, and my check for those 4 plates - $43, sans sangria.

I went here recently for lunch with a Living Social voucher. I had the ceviche, the Peruvian chicken, and the Hassel of Hoff Austrian/German white flight. My server was a thin young man with red hair, whose name I totally can't remember. That's unfortunate; he was great. The ceviche was excellent. My only complaint is that the avocados could have been a little riper. However, the seafood was on point, and that's way more important. There was a nice spiciness that I didn't expect, and it was obviously fresh, which is suuuper important with ceviche! The Peruvian chicken, recommended by my nameless-but-excellent server who used to work at Ram's Head and now works at Ranazul, was amaaazing. The sauce was incredible, and I could eat a cereal bowl of that creamed spinach. Really great! The Hassel of Hoff flight was exactly what I'd expect out of a German-themed wine assortment. The Gewurz was great and the other two were tasty enough, particularly with the ceviche and chicken. Oh, and finally they have an in-house pastry chef that makes delicious, challah-like bread that is very clearly neither gluten-free nor whole-grain. Yum! This place is worth the splurge, and makes a nice addition to the Baltimore-Columbia area. I'll be taking family here when they visit.

It is pricey. But the food is really good and worth it. Some of the plates the portions were really small. But some of them were pretty large for a "tasting" plate. Went with a group of friends and we split a variety of dishes. All were delicious and we were all full when we left. The salads are all great, I had a salad with oranges and goat cheese, a friend had a pear salad with blue cheese; both very good. Someone had a cheese soup with seafood and reported it was very good. The best tasting dish was the short ribs, melt in your mouth meat, and a fairly large portion. Next best to me was the salmon, again pretty good size piece of fish, I believe it was served with their spinach, which is delicious. The shrimp pasta was probably the heftiest portion; the scallops dish was ridiculously small - 3 small scallops for around $13. I don't remember everything we had, they have a huge selection. But it was all very delicious and worth the splurge. Their sangria was also very good. I didn't have dessert, but my friends reported the carrot cake and creme brulee were excellent. Oh, one thing, the chicken was dry and we didn't care for it much. Everyone raved about the manchego cheese, it is sweet and also offered as a dessert as well as an appetizer. Also ask for bread, we saw some tables had it but we weren't offered it. The service is slow. The drinks took forever to get the table from the bar. So if you are in a hurry, don't come here. It should be for an evening of relaxation and enjoying the food. We ordered in courses/waves so the food came out steadily instead of all at one time. This helped manage the slow service a little. And the place itself is beautiful!! Will go back , this time with my husband. 2nd time: went with husband, the meal was great the pear in the pear salad was grilled, the timing of the food and drinks was great. 6pm on a Saturday night.

3.5 stars. Last time we had brunch and it was very good (see previous review). This time we came in on a Tuesday night during restaurant week. Since I was interested in the tapas after our first visit, we did not order off the restaurant menu, but instead had the small plates. We had - in order of favorites: Fried manchego cheese - I LOVE manchego by itself, but holy wow, encrust it in almonds, fry it up and drizzle it with raspberries and champagne honey and WOW. So good. My husband and I nearly fought over the last piece before reminding ourselves we were in public and decided to amicably split it. Ceviche - My husband's favorite and I am shocked because he is not normally a fan of seafood. Seasoned perfectly and the seafood was good and firm. I know it was ordered off the small plate menu, but the portion is really small.. or perhaps the fact that it came out with way more chips than you need for the portion given, it seemed as though the portion size was too small. Bruschetta Rojo - Too much Gorgonzola and not enough tomato/basil mixture. And I think I would have preferred it not to be grilled. Mixed olives - a good portion of quality olives. We couldn't finish and took half home. We were planning to have dessert, but were surprisingly filled. Oh well, next time. I was a little disappointed in the wine list. Isn't this a wine bar? Since my husband and I have different wine tastes, I would have preferred a larger selection of wine by the glass. Also, as mentioned before, we came during restaurant week on a Tuesday night. It was a bit disappointing to see that there were only about 4 or 5 other groups there, similar to when we last came out here. That's a shame because it looks like a good atmosphere for a heavy crowd. Maybe we'll go on a weekend night next time and see if it is still a bit dull.

Great selection of tapas items and pricing seems fair. Very elegant decor. Knowledgeable wine steward. Often, they're have half-off bottles and an ample selection as well. Only complaint - if you plan on dining there for a special occasion such as Valentines Day, check to make sure they have a full menu available. We found out the hard way that they had a limited menu and were a little disappointed by that. Food was excellent though. If you like to patronize local, independent restaurants, consider Ranazul if you're in the Maple Lawn area.

The space is still beautiful and the bar staff was friendly, but nothing else impressed us this time. We stopped in on a Sunday around 6 for a quick drink and appetizer before dinner elsewhere. The sangria tasted like watered down red wine with soda water. Yes, I watched our waitress add club soda to our glasses. Fail. We tried the flat bread with an olive tempenad, tomato, mozzarella and basil. It was nasty. The olives overwhelm the entire dish and make the 'flat bread' soggy. The cheese had no flavor and the basil I was expecting wasn't distinguishable at all. My husband asked for a glass of the house Pinot. It was good, but $14 a glass! Yikes. We decided that this just isn't worth our money. Next time, we'll venture to one of the many other places for a quick drink and bite.

Good wine list, and the wine manager/sommelier is a sweetheart. Service is generally good, and I've never had the experience of an earlier reviewer of being neglected. The food is primarily quite good, with only a few misses. Get the tuna tartare, the mixed olives (peppery, salty, savory goodness), the avocado & salmon sushi, the fried oysters with roasted corn salsa, and the duck breast. The Mejillones (mussels) are inconsistent, and the ceviche is a pass. The restaurant's a trendily-outfitted space on the ground floor of an office building in a faux "main street" complex. It's not cheap, but not ultra expensive for what you get. Wine flights are offered with some regularity, and "happy hour" specials on wines by the glass are pretty good. There are a couple dozen very solid wines by the glass and half-glass, meaning you can reasonably pair your small plates with appropriate wines without going broke or getting blotto. The remainder of the wine list is heavily new-world - lots of California and Australian offerings - but Spain and Italy are well-represented. Don't go looking for a lot of French wines, however. Ranazul is a surprisingly bright spot in the Howard County, MD 'burbs - a little bit of class in what's, as a rule, a pretty bland landscape. Dress is generally business-casual, but you can get away with jeans and a button-down shirt if the denim's free of holes.

My husband and I decided it was high time to go out for a nice dinner. Being from this area we are able to become familiar with the restaurants locally and we wanted to try this place since we hadn't eaten at Ranazul before. Besides we love tapas! I was very taken back by this place. I understand the price point of a beautiful restaurant but the owner of this place must have been drunk when they put their menu together. We ordered 3 tapas to start, each priced between $14-$20. When they brought out 3 scallops, wet bruschetta and a small plate of fried shrimp I wanted to send it back. I understand the concept of tapas, small portions. I find it appalling to charge full plate prices for such a minuscule amount of food. Not to mention our server was mediocre, she was reading off of a notes sheet in her book. When I asked her for a suggestion for a sweet light wine she read off a recipe for a hard iced tea. [which made no sense??] The space was nice, very neutrally decorated, exactly what I would expect from a restaurant in office building. This is not the place if you are looking for a romantic setting. Maybe better for happy hours. My husband and I wanted a nice romantic dinner and ended up sitting in this open restaurant in the middle of a few happy hour guests. We left hungry, we over paid by a long shot and the service was okay at best. Don't waste your time or money.

    1. Ceviche w/ shrimp, scallops, calamari, tomato, avocado, and cilantro - 3/5. Could be better. 2. Salmon and Avocado on a bed of seaweed salad - 4/5. always a sucker for fresh salmon. 3. Salmon Medallion encrusted w/ cashew, orange butter sauce - 5/5 whoa this was a surprised. nicely done!! truly some good noshing here. Sadly there was only 1 medallion. 4. Pork Tenderloin w/ polenta cake, corn, pineapple relish, and mushroom sauce - 4/5 ok dish. overshaddowed by the salmon before. 5. Quesadillas Poblanas w/ chicken, chilies, and Monterey Jack cheese - 4/5 still hungry at this point. it was actually pretty tasty. 6. Fritto Mixto - 3/5 not as tasty as it looked. but the sauce was good. 7. Sopapillas - 5/5 crispy, ice cream, syrupy. plenty of goodness here.

We had a caesar salad and a bunch of tapas: lamb chop, scallops, Peruvian chicken, all really delicious. The desserts were the usual suspects, but the one we got (peach cobbler) was way above average. Love this place.

Nothing over the top amazing, but atmosphere was pleasant, service was ok, and great variety of tapas to choose from. Definitely a fun change from the normal date night outting. Would definitely visit again!

It's an OK place but a bit pricey for things that don't come out quite right as often as they should. Nice atmosphere and when the food is on it's just fine. Need to try them again sometime, I suppose.

The atmosphere at Ranazul is pretty chic and a little more upscale compared to other places around. If you're taking a very hungry person it will be a little bit of an expensive night, but the food is worth every penny. Although the menu changes, the truffled potatoes, steak and duck are great choices for the price. Like any Tapas restaurant, you can spend as much or as little as you want, so don't listen to anyone who tells you this place is super expensive (I've heard that and disagree). You can get a few of the cheaper small plates and be very satisfied. Jeremy, the bartender, is very knowledge and offers great wine recommendations. He also makes some seriously amazing cocktails. This place is nice for a special occasion, a date night, or nicer/fancier happy hour... Personally, I think the experience and food is well worth it.

Took the wife here for a "delayed" Valentine's Day dinner on Feb 16th. They were offering a $45/person four course prix fixe special. All four courses were amazing. My choices were: corn chowder - superb; coconut shrimp - very tasty; entree was pork tenderloin in a lovely prosciutto butter sauce and corn/carrot/haricot verts ragout. Dessert: carrot cake with a scoop of dulce de leche (?) ice cream. My wife got the petit filet with potato cake and portobello mushroom. It looked like a burger the way it was presented. I got a bite of the filet - it was so tender I almost didn't need to use my teeth to chew it! Service was impeccable. The decor is simple, but, as my wife described it, calming. This is a great place for a romantic dinner!

I've only put this down as "Spendy", but depending on your drink selection, it can VERY easily become a "Splurge". Very, very easily. The tapas dishes are not priced as appetizers, they're priced as entrées. The portions are somewhere between the two. I hadn't read up on the place beforehand, and I really should have. I was not expecting it to be as formal as it is (it's Tapas, in the suburbs, after all) and arrived in attire that would have been better suited for the sports bar across the way. This place is classy. Marble, sommeliers...most wines by the glass were in the low teen's. The tailored wine list is really there to compliment the dishes (and worth every penny). Trust the staff, they know their menu, and they made great recommendations. It was quiet but not too quiet--great for having conversation but not so noisy as to be unable to hear the other person (and not so quiet that everyone can hear YOUR conversation!). I would definitely like to explore their menu more. Not being familiar with tapas in general, I can't offer up a comparison. The dish and the wine I did enjoy were simply divine. After talking with the sommeliers, it turned out the last bottle of our chosen wine had been sold; the waiter immediately offered a wine from the same vineyard of a better label for the same price of the originally selected bottle. Fantastic example of doing right by the customer there, making a non-issue of a potential problem. I would absolutely return here; granted, due to the prices, it's special occasions only.

This is a relatively new restaurant in the Maple Lawns area. They have traditional tapas style servings with mediterranean fares. The ceviche is pretty good. The shrimp and calamari are poached, but not over done. I really like the duck breast and arepas. The duck is succulent and has the plum sauce really complements it without overwhelming the duck flavor. The arepas is reminiscent of good comfort food. The lamb is also a good choice. It's flavorful and has just enough gamey taste to it but not overpowering.

**4.5 stars I love tapas. So naturally, my boyfriend & I found a tapas restaurant in HoCo to celebrate our two year anniversary. The food was delicious, served in decent portions. I remember the ceviche being perfectly citrusy & seasoned. I think we also got asparagus and fritto mixto. The duck breast was also really good b/c I really like butternut squash--would've been a great single entree as well! We finished with a molten chocolate lava cake, which you apparently need to order when you order the rest of your food so they can prepare ahead of time. It's good to know that everything is freshly made! I think I would give the restaurant 5 stars if not for the decor. It was relaxing & comfortable, but it also seemed somewhat cold to me. The decor didn't really make me feel at home, mostly because it has glass as walls & everything is very square & dark. It is located in the new Maple Lawn area, which is some what secluded still since the area is still in th process of being developed. Also, it's not close to the more populated Columbia/Clarksville areas, so I had to drive 20-25 mins to get here. But, it's also a plus that it's not located in a more populated area, or else the food would be more expensive & it would be more crowded. Apparently, it now serves brunch (started 1/9/11) & happy hour tapas are $7 or less!

"Hey, I thought you said *topless* restaurant!" No, it's a tapas restaurant, in Fulton. I was a bit worried about the service after reading all the other reviews, but our experience was just fine -- we had no less than 3 people filling our glasses, clearing our plates, and jamming plates of foie gras at us. Sweet. The food was Excellent. We had both cold and hot tapas, and we ordered about 2 dishes too much, but ate it all anyway. Standouts of the night were the tuna tartare (W-O-W), the duck breast, and the aforementioned foie gras. It's like somebody combined bacon and butter and then created some sort of machine that made it even better. And then aged it in a leprechaun or something. It was good. The Sopa Azteca was also very good, but is potent and very intensely flavored. It's not Chili's Tortilla Soup by any stretch. Other things that crossed our table were bread (bread!), the cheese tray (ok); olives stuffed with anchovies (salty in the best possible way); sauteed mushrooms (good, but way too many and too rich); salad frisee (good); and mussels (generous and tasty). In hindsight, I would have dropped the cheese tray and the mushrooms. Too much food. Dessert: Whisky and Honey Creme Brulee. Yes, it's as good as it sounds. My personal trainer is going to find out and I'm a dead man... Wife had the sopapillas which were tasty too. They have a good wine list, and their wines-by-the-glass offerings are not run-of-the-mill. The Bogle Pinot Noir was a great match for the stuff we had. Happy hour, daily 3-7, $2 off wine by the glass! They also made a good, and very large, Manhattan. The ambiance is great; very trendy; and it wasn't crowded at all from 5-7 on a Tuesday. Now, it was 100 degrees outside, so maybe people were hunkering down elsewhere. Great experience, will go back, will recommend to people!

We went for our 30th anniversary and wanted a tapas restaurant. We wanted to eat slowly, and enjoy each other's company, and the food and drink. One plus: other tapas restaurants we considered were closed on Monday. But, our anniversary was on Monday! :-) As it was Monday, we didn't bother with reservations. Any other day, I suspect we'd need them. The service was excellent. The tapas we ordered was very good. We ordered the following: started with : Mixed Olives--nice, pitted!!! (Donna's does not pit. :-() Assorted marinated olives Edamame--good! Steamed and lightly salted soybean pods Salmon Avocado Sushi -- Great! Really great! Sliced salmon with Chinese mustard seasonedavocado on a bed of seaweed salad Camaron al Tequila--Great! Jumbo shrimp with avocado and mango in a tequila sauce Arepas--Excellent!! Corn cake with crab, shrimp and tomato ragout Quesos Artesenales--boring. I was hoping for a nice ending.. Chef's assortment of fine cheeses and accompaniments We want to go back, There were about 5 other dished I would have liked to try, but did not have the room. Moderate to expensive. Two of us -- $75, We each had a glass of Sangria. The wine selection was excellent, but we wanted Sangria.

I'm not really a fan, my co-worker got food poisoning here. No one wants to go out to dinner and end up vomiting or with diarrhea. I have eaten here before and I probably will not eat here again due to the fact I stay away from any restaurant after someone's gotten food poisoning from there.

Ranazul is owned by the same person who owns Venegas, across the street. I would MUCH prefer to come to Ranazul. The food is very good, but it is a little expensive. Dinner for 3 with an inexpensive bottle of wine was about $200 not including tip. We each had a salad, 3 tapas plates, and dessert. Definitely a good happy hour stop. Good wine selection, their sangria is good as well. The only downside is that the kitchen closes at 9. If you work in DC, this place is almost impossible to get to during the week. There is limited outdoor seating available.

For a new restaurant in a newly built shopping center/town center area, this was recommended by a friend near by. I know I shouldn't dock this restaurant for the price ($$$ on Yelp), but I'm still weary when I hear the word "tapas". I know to most people think tapas equates to a way of trying small portions of many dishes to get a variety of tastes. I'm a Korean and I like variety. I like trying other people's foods and I'm all for the concept. But to charge close to entrée prices per dish just bothers me. If you're going to serve us small portions, at least accommodate the price as well. Yea, you can factor "quality" into it, but if I'm going to pay $30/person, I expect to be really full. I can easily say that I wasn't full at all. I can't really go into the dishes. Only because we ordered so much. I don't remember any of the dishes being bad. They were actually quite good. I guess I could wish that they could give us bigger portions, but then they wouldn't be tapas. I do recommend the Arepas (Corn cake with crab, shrimp and tomato ragout). This turned out to be one of my favorite dishes of the night.

Just got back from Ranazul, in Fulton MD, the ambient was very relax, the décor is very modern, the service was friendly, the food was great!! So where the drinks!! I drive to dc a lot to find good restaurants, I was very please to find one just around the corner! We order the Artichoke Salad, which was just perfect, the frito mixto was a mixture of fresh crispy shrimp and calamari, and the tilapia Veracruz, which was delicious, to be a tapas place I expected the order to be extremely small but I was pleasantly surprised to see good portions with great flavor

Went with two other people during restaurant week around 8:30pm on a Saturday. Every single thing we ordered was amazing! Great atmosphere. Classy but not stuffy. The cashew encrusted salmon medallions are TO DIE FOR! My only complaint was that the service was a bit slow, but it was also nice that we weren't being rushed through and were able to enjoy each of the courses. We weren't in a hurry to be anywhere so it worked out.

This is one of my favorite places to eat. The food is wonderful, and even though tapas dishes are small, my husband and I can be pretty satisfied sharing about 4 of their tasty selections. It's always hard to choose just 4 though because there are so many good choices. I guess that always gives a reason to go back!

A respectable wine list and an adventurous and tasty menu. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food; the ubiquitous tuna tartare was extremely fresh and attractively presented, the shrimp with tequila delicate and flavorful. The service, however, was a nightmare. We sat, a table of eight at an early seating (meaning a practically empty restaurant), our drinks empty, our food orders untaken, for 15 minutes while a gaggle of servers stood chatting by the bar--all of 10 feet away--oblivious and uncaring. I actually had to stand up and wave my arms to get anyone's attention, then she took my drink order and started to wander away, leaving my companions high and dry. Inquiries about the menu were met with blank stares, drinks and dishes served to the wrong people, water glasses ignored. I will try Ranazul again because the food really was delightful. But if the service hasn't improved dramatically, that will be that! UPDATE: I went back and, well...Still not quite up to snuff. We sat at the bar and I ordered a dry martini. What I got back was almost pure vermouth. I pointed out that "dry" means you basically whisper the word "vermouth" near the glass. The bartender was perfectly nice and readily remade the drink, but how does a bartender become a bartender and not know how to make a dry martini? The food was a little uneven this time, which was a real disappointment, since that was the saving grace of my first visit. The scallops with gnocchi were out of this world, but the bruschetta nero had obviously been sitting around for who knows how long. The bread was only crispy where the tapenade had not been left to soak in--and there it was a soggy mess. I so want to like this place, but still just can't recommend it.

Good food and just ok service that was not rushed. Both, however, were unremarkable. Waitress was good until the end when she failed to ask if we wanted more coffee - and then proceeded to disappear. 30 minutes without checking, delivering the check, etc. It's worth stopping in if you're in the area and want a glass of wine and a bite. But I wouldn't make an event out of it.

Dined here last night with friends. Second time for me. Took advantage of Howard County restaurant week prix fixe offering. Delicious small plates, good service. Moderate - sized wine list, carefully-chosen wine selections, reasonably priced for a fine dining destination. Scallops, veal, Peruvian chicken, crab imperial were all delicious. Hanger steak had a fine flavor but was flawed by toughness. Ranazul's creme brulee is the bomb. I asked our waiter if, the next time we visit, could the restaurant take our red wine order as we arrive, then decant it immediately, and serve it later, when we were ready for it. They agreed without hesitation to do this any time we ask. Most of the affordable red wines are young and they benefit from breathing, so we will take advantage of this service in the future. I like the minimalist, modern decor. However, I believe Ranazul's ambiance could be warmed up by some well-placed art and/or sculpture.

Out of the Maple Lawn restaurants this one is the best, well actually it seems to be the only one that doesn't quickly go out of business, but that's another story. Their tapas were good, the tables were slightly close together when I was there, this might have changed, but it lead to order mix ups and overhearing interesting conversations.

So I came here for Restaurant week and I was super excited. Coming from California, I had been itching to go to a decent restaurant with decent food... boy was I in for a surprise... and not the good kind. The prix fixe menu was $40 I believe and for that amount of money I could have had a decent meal for 2 at the cheesecake factory. I had a crispy duck salad, scallops, petite filet, a fruit cobbler, and two glasses of zin. First let me start off with the wine. I received my first glass of wine and took a sip when i noticed an alarming amount of sediment at the bottom of the glass. I asked for another glass of wine, when the waitress then told me, that is how it's supposed to be. I was shocked. I asked if this was the last glass out of the bottle and of course she didn't know. After she took the glass back to the bar and the waiters all gathered around to look at my glass of wine, they filtered out the sediment and brought the glass back to me. I was slightly annoyed but decided not to make a fuss. Now on to the food. When I think of crispy duck, I think of pieces of duck that has been cooked in a pan with the fat side down, giving the skin a crispy texture and leaving the duck meat moist and juicy. What I received was random pieces of torn duck deep fried. The pieces were overcooked and dried out. The scallops looked like they were depressed at how they were cooked. They just looked sad. Very little sear and the scallops were under cooked. The petite filet tasted like reprocessed meat. Definitely the worst filet I've ever had, I could not even finish the small piece of meat. The fruit cobbler was decent, nothing special. Starting from the wine, to the salad all the way to the dessert, this meal was a disappointment. If you've got money to burn, and want to know what a disappointing food tastes like, by all means please visit this establishment. Otherwise, save your money and try elsewhere. Hopefully I will find better food around this area. Restaurants like this make me miss the food in California more and more...

My favorite go to place when in Fulton! Have celebrated birthdays with friends, and dropped by after a massage at the Pearl, and just dinner with family or friends. Jessie has been our server several times, and I cannot say enough good things about her - attentive, anticipates what is needed and is so very nice and concerned that all is going well and that the food is perfect! She always has great suggestions. They have a nice wine selection (and beer), plus a tasty sangria. I do wish the menu changed a bit more seasonally, but I'll take it as it is!

Jenn S's review pretty much sums it up. Only other thing to add is that the bathrooms are outside the restaurant in the main part of the building. We had a bunch of items from the menu, and they were all good. If i could I'd rate the place a little over a 4. My favs were: Tuna tartare, lamb, duck, AND MOJITOS! oh yeah, and i heard the duck was good (o:

My friends and I came here and it was good. But was it pricey! I never had tapas before and didn't know what to expect. The Peruvian chicken was delicious! But was it worth $15 for such a small portion? I don't think so. The bruschetta was overloaded with Parmesan cheese that I could not even eat it.

I would have given it 5 stars but they gave me and my GF luke-warm coffee. (Note to Ranazul: Ensure coffee is hot before delivering, just as you would check that plates and glasses are clean before placing on table.) They delivered my salad a good 10 minutes before delivering my GF's salad, which made things awkward. To Ranazul's credit, the waiter apologized immediately upon delivering my GF's salad. The desert was great though, and the Sommelier (yes, they have a Sommelier) was SO nice and helpful. Everything we ordered was outstanding and the service amazing. One of my favorite restaurants in the Howard County region.

Hmmmmm, I don't live in this town, so I cannot compare this restaurant to other nearby establishments. We went on a Saturday at 2PM and had the whole place to ourselves. Sooooooooooooooooooooooo the service was good. Thank goodness. The food was fresh- a good sign and up beat. A large variety to choose from. But PRICEY. Yes. If you want to try something new, by all means I would go here and see for yourself. But we certainly had a wide variety of dishes being 7 people and hungry as horses. Only a few really stood out. I of course would not be able to tell you the proper names of the dishes, but can only describe them. The Brushcetta with gorgonzola cheese was fine but nothing to rave about since bread and oil are served at the table. I would pass on it unless you absolutely need seasoned bread. We had a roasted potato choice that came with two dipping sauces. One was red spicy, the other spiced mayo. Pass. Got the Sautéed Spinach with raisins and pine nuts??? Bland / Pass. Got a plain simple salad of sorts/ it was okay and small for the price, IMHO. Okay, okay. I'm not going to do it one by one. Let me tell you what I did like Salmon Medallion which came with a very nice small side salad. Quesadillas Poblanas ...... I looked up the menu on the site. Potatoes Gratin. Had a nice flavor and use the bread provided to soak up the sauce. The carrot cake and the molten chocolate cake both come with a large scoop of ice cream and were very good. I'd definitely tell you to go there once and try it. But My family and I don't have to go back.

Very overpriced. Most of the food we tried was pretty good, but everyone left hungry. After spending upwards of $40/each, it was disappointing to leave less than full. Service wasn't great, either. We sat outside, almost no one else was in the place, so no excuse for poor service.

The food is good. Ranazul has a decent lunch menu as well and priced well. Great atmosphere. The service was a bit tacky the first two weeks of opening, but it has come a long way now. My wine drinking friends say, that they have a great wine selection as well.

What is it: A relatively new Tapas and Wine Bar. Thumbs up for the selection they offer on both. What I liked: Food here is of excellent quality. I came here with a very large group so I can confidently say I got to taste at least 85% of the menu. No disappointments. Only good surprises. Thoughtfully prepared, very tasty. I also liked the option of 3 different seating choices. Standard dining tables, bar stools w/ bar height tables which are great for small groups, or the comfy looking leather sofas with coffee tables. All are situated in the dining area for your picking. They also have a full bar in addition to the wine selection, if you were wondering. What sucked: Service is slow on their feet, bordering on lazy. If only the wait staff cared as much as the chefs here care about the food then this place would have tremendous potential. Oh yeah, they also don't have a in house restroom. So don't break the seal!

What a treat for a cold day - Happy Hour here that is...Very nice spot for drinks and tapas...I didn't stay to eat as we had reservations elsewhere for a party but how I wished I could have. I did have a great glass of red which I really enjoyed sitting at the bar in big comfy leather chairs... Added plus, the really nice manager looks like Robert Downey Jr and blushes when you bring it up. So sorry I didn't have my camera!!

LOVED their patatas bravas - cubed, fried and spiced potatoes with garlic aioli. it was the perfect texture, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. everything else we ordered was delicious - tuna tartare, petit filet, mussels, and pitcher of sangira. i'm definitely coming back!

I had pretty much the opposite experience of the other reviewer. Our waiter was one of the best I've had in a while. We went for lunch and were the only people in the restaurant (it was Monday at 2 PM). He knew plenty about the menu and made some great recommendations. My problem was not the service, or decor (this is EASILY the most romantic-looking restaurant in 20 miles), it was the food itself. The lunch menu pales in comparison to the dinner menu, so my wife, not a big fan of seafood, had some trouble finding choices. We'll definitely go back and give the dinner menu a try!

We went here for the valentines dinner, and the service was great. I'm vegetarian, and the second I mentioned it, he recommended items which I could eat plus offered rearranging basically anything on the menu to suit my needs.

my girlfriend and i came here for dinner during an unexpected flash flood (very unfortunate). we entered the restaurant while waiters were fleeing out of the restaurant and frantically trying to pick up overturned tables, umbrellas, and heating lamps. the restaurant layout had a western US kind of feel, which reminded me of home, and i really liked that. we were seated promptly (with a reservation) at a large mahogany table with big, comfy chairs. The tapas menu that we previewed online fit our palettes very well, and thus we were able to order a variety of dishes all throughout their creative menu. On a random note, their shirley temple came with 6 or 7 maraschino cherries. We topped off our dinner with a molten chocolate lava cake which was delicious. the waiters were definitely pretty friendly, but not out of the ordinary. i am looking forward to dining here again, in addition to any other maple lawn establishments. If you happen to be in the area as well and like frozen yogurt, the BP right next to the restaurant offers a large variety of snacks including frozen yogurt with fresh fruit and other toppings. this place closes at night though, which we found out after trying to go there after dinner.

Jeremy is the best bartender in the area. He makes excellent cocktails. Delicious wine list too. I have eaten from the tapas menu dozens of times and it never disappoints. My favorite are the scallops! This restaurant has a decent after-work crowd on any given weeknight, and attire is business casual mostly. All of the staff are great!!!

Only open a few months, Rana Azul is another upscale addition to the Maple Lawn complex in Fulton (just south of Columbia, MD). I spent a few hours here mostly downing wine (strong wine list!) and only had a few plates of tapas. The grilled Fois Gras was excellent, empanadas and fish cakes worthy, and the potatoes so-so (then again, they're potatoes!). Very nice ambiance and I look forward to going back to give it the right treatment. Watch for the review to improve! Update: Went back for lunch- WOW! Deelish mussels in a cilantro broth (use the bread on the leftover broth), black bean soup with the beans pureed (who would have thought but OMG good!), tuna tartare on a bed of seaweed salad... Dayum! My review went from 4 to 5 stars! Pricey like most tapas places, but it will not disappoint.

I have been here about 3 or 4 times and have never been disappointed. The food is always awesome, as is the wine and service.... I went for HoCo Restaurant Week last year... and the prix fixe menu was great with a few choices for each course.

This is about the 4th time we've visited this restaurant. Each time, we come to the same conclusion. Great concept, but the flavor is "not quite there". To start, we had the tuna tar-tar. it was bland and flat tasting. looks like it was prepared in advance and sat for some time. A little soy sause or other seasoning would help a lot. The potatos were great, the petite filet was cooked perfectly, but there was no seasoning or salt onthe steak. Again, very flat tasting. Same thing with the crab and orzo dish, looked great, tasted okay. We regularly visit other well know tapas restaurants, this falls a little short in taste. Our waiter last night was one of the best I've seen in a long time anywhere. Jason F... very professional and was the best waiter I've seen anywhere in a long time.

Reasons why I love Ranazul: It was a pleasant surprise during my visit to the area ^_^ Their food is amazing and rather filling Good wine The manager's a darling~ They are open late Why it didn't get 5 stars They undercooked my lamb (it was still good but I like my red meat well done...) The service wasn't exactly the best...

I love this place. It has a more upscale loungy feel and it is a great place to have a romantic meal or to hang with friends and try out a bunch of different foods. I am a big fan of having a little bit of a lot of different things, so this place was right up my alley. The only complaint I would have is that the tables are pretty close together so it can be tough to have a quiet/romantic meal on a busy night if that's what you're looking for.

This is a Tapas and Wine Bar restaurant. Food is good, but service is very spotty. This place is only six weeks old and the service staff really shows it. The staff are not familiar with the dishes and that's disappointing. Let me tell you that I am not a fan of Tapa Bars in this type of formal setting. Wine list is extensive. I hope they get better with time.

We went to Ranazul during Howard County's Restaurant Week, and absolutely loved it. Very close to 5 stars, but not quite. Decor was nice, if the tables were a little packed in. Nice overall though. For the first course, he got an heirloom tomato salad, and I had the soup of the day, which was shrimp bisque. They took a little while to come out, but both were excellent. We got the wine pairings as well, and they were perfect. Second course, he got a shrimp and mango dish, and I got a seared scallop dish. Again both were very good - great flavors and well executed. Third course, he got petit filet, and I had the lamb chops. Both good, although we both ordered them medium and I'd say they were both more medium well. And then dessert. We literally both tasted our respective desserts (him: creme brulee, me: chocolate mousse) and immediately declared that we had ordered the best dessert and that the other should try it. Both were superb, but overall, I won the dessert battle :) We also opted for the $15 wine pairings, which were definitely worth it. Good sized pours, and obviously carefully selected to pair with each menu item. As I said before, this was *so* close to 5 stars for me, but the hiccups with the first course and the meat course are holding me back. We'll definitely be back though, and I'm hoping to be able to give them that 5th star then!

Great variety of tapas, extremely friendly and attentive waitstaff, and a very relaxed environment. I came here post-workout so my mind was in the "I need food and I need it now" zone. After I had my first bite of appetizer I realized this place was a place for savoring the food or you weren't going to get your money's worth. Things I would recommend: -Mussels: albeit standard appetizer but every piece was very well cooked and fresh and the butter sauce was delicious -Seared scallops: SO tasty, probably my favorite dish from what I've tried, scallops cut and eat like butter and the sauce was a nice compliment and not overpowering -Lamb chops: definitely one you have to savor, quality over quantity in this dish, I would say order it if you want a great lamb but not if you're looking for more bang for your buck -Sopapilla: I would say try it if you've never had it, it's a fried pastry dough with cinnamon sugar, honey (think glazed tortilla chip) and a scoop of ice cream. Things I wouldn't recommend: -Pork empanada: really overcooked and dry, and the sauce was tasty but dense, it had soaked through the flour cake by the time it reached our table -Any salad: this is tapas so the salads barely satisfy one person as an appetizer, if you have dietary restrictions and have to order vegetarian I would suggest the grilled peach salad

This place was a pleasant surprise. We came here mid week for some occasion. We had no real plan, just ordered drinks and a couple of small plates at a time. The pace was nice, the staff didn't rush us at all. The food was fresh and delicious. The ceviche was especially good. It was a nice spot to get a laid back meal but still felt like a good, quality dining experience. We'll be back, especially to try some of the happy hour specials.

Very good tapas. I had the fried oysters, mussels and potatoes with habenaro aoli. If you drink be careful. The police and sheriff stake out the town center and surrounding roundabouts.

Ranazul (blue frog) is definitely a hidden gem in Howard County. It's a sleek, modern restaurant that seems to take great pride in itself. Located in a thriving new community, It is overwhelmingly obvious that there is passion behind every aspect of this restaurant. Its not one of those mechanical conveyor belt restaurants that "runs itself" and I say that in a good way. Everyone, from our OUTSTANDING server (Jess) to the hostess and water boys, were on their A-GAME the night I came here with my wife. And thank goodness they were because I was very much ready for a tapas dining experience... Our first tapas round consisted of the ceviche, which was very fair. It was served in a glass that was impossible to eat out of. The accompanying chips were not necessary. They tasted like they were out of a bag and really did not do the dish any justice. The ceviche itself had nice fresh chunks of seafood. However, it lacked jalapeno or a spice component. The avocado was a nice compliment considering the slightly over acidic liquid. But there was just too much of that liquid for my taste. Our second tapas was the asparagus, which was cooked to perfection and topped with shavings of sharp manchego cheese. What a great combination of flavors. The tomato based chicken tortilla soup was the best of the three tapas on this round . The second round of tapas started with the seared scallops, which were by far the best tapas plate of the evening. Three large scallops atop what I think were diced green beans (?) and cooked with rendered down bacon. YUM! Next up was the Peruvian chicken, which was more like two chicken breasts in a potent mustard sauce. There was really nothing "peruvian" going on here. However, the spinach added a nice salt component and made this a well rounded dish overall. The last tapas of the evening was the filet which was cooked PERFECTLY. For dessert we ordered the Fried Machengo, which in retrospect was a mistake. Although unique, the dish was way to rich for a desert. However The dish was still appetizing and the almond crust was great but I can't say I'd order it again. Overall, I really did enjoy the food here. The only real issue I had was that every dish seemed to have a component that seemed out of place. Whether it was the over abundance of tortilla chips in the soup or the overpowering sauce in the chicken, there was just one thing in each dish that kind of didn't belong. I also had an issue with the menu. When I think of tapas I imagine a wide variety of small plates that actually work as dishes all in their own right. With Ranazul I feel like the tapas were small entrees and/or side dishes, not traditional tapas. And even though there were hints of latino flare, I was missing that character. For this reason (primarily the menu) I have to subtract one star. Regardless I will definitely be returning here very soon. If your interested I have a few additional comments below but instead Of reading why don't you just get in the car and check this place because it deserves your attention. ACCESSIBILITY/PARKING 5/5: Ranazul's location is premium. Its situated in the small "downtown" area of Maple Lawn, in the middle of an thriving new community. My gut tells me that the clientele here is consistent but limited to either those who work or live in the area. Parking on a Saturday night was easy as we got a spot right in front of the restaurant. INTERIOR 3/5: this was a super clean restaurant which is excellent. But I can't say I loved the flow or "look' of Ranazul. There seems to be a lot of wasted space in here. It's a one big open room that lacks identity. There's also this very odd little semi-private room in the back called "The Gallery" where you can have a somewhat private party for about 14-15 people. The point of this room is to showcase local artists' work but it really just doesn't fit in at all with the restaurant.
