We were so happy to discover the restaurant here. It was all-you-can-eat for $10. Amazing organic homemade food. Fantastic bread. Delicious dessert. Great iced tea and lemonade. The two soups were incredible, and it was all $10. The people who own the place are so hospitable and friendly. This is a slice of small town America at its best.

A friend ate here one evening after kayaking the Upper Yough and called just to let me know how much he thought I would love the place. Fast forward two months and we are out in ohiopyle, kayaking the Lower Yough, after a long day on the river we still decided to drive out of our way so that I could try Riverside. I am so glad we did! I instantly fell in love with the atmosphere and the wonderful people that work there. Eating family style on the front porch, meeting new people and staring out at the water is the perfect end to a great day on the river. The staff are down to earth, charismatic, interesting people. All of that set aside, the food is amazing! I left there extremely satisfied. I even had a homemade gluten-free brownie with cayenne pepper in it :) fantastic! I cannot wait to go back, I can honestly say that in my nearly 30 years of life, this is my absolute favorite place that I have ever had a meal.

Stopped here while on vacation after reading other comments on Yelp. Good decision. The Thai Peanut & Garbanzo bean soups were great. The salad had fresh squash & bean sprouts with 3 types of dressings. The bread was fresh & delicious. The carrot cake was to die for. The people running it were also very nice.

Like the last reviewer said, I can't believe that there aren't more reviewed raving about this place. This is a very historic and quaint little hotel, but certainly comfortably and accommodating in every sense. The owners are a husband and wife that run the show, and they do an awesome job and are very nice. If you're staying in the area, this is definitely a place to stop in. They also run an awesome bakery and restaurant that serves all homemade organic foods grown right from the garden in their back yard.

Wonderful place. Stopped in the night before my rafting trip. Had great salad, soup and pie out on the porch, and slept well. Very friendly people. It may be a while before I get back this way, but I will stop in again.

This place is just wonderful! It would be hard to be more authentic. You pay a fixed price for salad that's grown yards away, plus bread that was probably baked hours earlier (delicious), and as many helpings as you can handle of the wonderful homemade soups. And then a dessert after that. Oh, and a drink. Not to mention the ambience of sitting on the covered front porch watching the Youghiogheny flow past across the street. On the night that we showed up the soups were garbanzo bean, curried carrot, and a chunky tomato basil, all quite yummy. The proprietors couldn't be more friendly and welcoming. Skip those eateries close to Deep Creek Lake and head on down to Friendsville for this charmer of a place.

This place is wonderful. I live in farm-to-table ridiculousness Brooklyn and this is actually the real deal where that term is superfluous. If you are not in the know call first to make sure they are open and BYOB.

After hearing my friends rave about the soup and salad here I finally had a chance to experience it for myself. Soup and salad doesn't usually fill me up after a day of kayaking but I left Riverside feeling full and nourished. The soups were Squash Pea and Creamy Potato. One bowl of the Squash Pea would have been enough but I had a bowl of the Potato too - and then a third helping of Squash Pea! The salad was beautiful with edible flowers and organic vegetables from the backyard garden. The dressings were homemade deliciousness and omg... the bread!! The bread was better than any bakery, better than anything I've made, amazing. I only stayed for dinner but I hope to have an occasion to be a hotel guest in the future. Agnes and Mike feel like old friends after only just meeting them. I am confident they are wonderful hotel hosts as well as in their restaurant. It felt more like coming to a friends's house for dinner than going out to eat. I can't say enough good things. I'll definitely go out of my way to go back when I'm in Western MD.

Am i really writing the first review for this place? Can't believe no one else has been on yet to rave about. Feels like you are spending the night with friends, who happen to have a spare master bedroom. I'm not that big into the organic vegan thing, but dinner was incredible. The owners were great, the front porch and the view of the river. The only drawback is that whoever did the city planning should have made the main highway run by a little further from down town. The slight sound of the occasional truck driving by was a bummer, in such a quiet idyllic place. Regardless, that's not their fault, and for less than a hundred, you can't beat the place,

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Driving from NYC, it was the perfect spot to break up a long road trip. Comfortable bed, beautiful river view, amazing renovated hotel. And the food! Delicious, inexpensive. And when we ran late, the owner kept it aside for us so we could eat when we arrived. Wonderful service. You should stay here - I know I will be back.

Absolutely wonderful place. Soup, salad &bread. All organic and fresh. If you want a hamburger go to McDonald's. If you want the best soup and salad and homemade bread come to the Riverside Hotel.

We didn't stay in the hotel but LOVED dinner. The homemade bread was worth the trip alone. My decidedly carnivorous son was very satisfied with the vegetarian fare and even after a day of rafting everyone was full and happy when we left. AND the owners' daughter was a darling and gracious hostess. We hope to stay in the hotel the next time we visit.
