Delicious! I came here on Valentine's Day and couldn't believe how authentic everything tasted! The bread, lobster ravioli, crabmeat, pannacotta...perfect, perfect, perfect, and perfect! The only reason I'm giving it a 4-star rating is for running out of the heart-shaped ravioli and not informing the guests...yes it's childish, but what girl wouldn't want heart-shaped anything on Valentine's Day (much less any day?!) Heart-shaped tortellini, bread, pannacotta, salad bowls...you get the idea. Anywho, back to the food. They served a delicious crusty bread with seasoned oil and cheese on the side. Only thing missing? Fresh cracked black pepper. The cream sauce used in the lobster ravioli was perfectly seasoned and tasted homemade. The couple next to us couldn't stop raving about the veal and my boyfriend LOVED the pollo vitello. Bonus points: they accommodate different palates...the guy next to us ordered a VEGAN pizza and they came through! It's hard to believe that I found a restaurant willing to satisfy my vegetarian ass...AND tasty...but also willing to make a vegan pizza on request?! Thats beyond awesome! Makes me wish that I lived in/near Frederick so it could be a weekly stop :)

I live in Urbana so my family and I go here all the time. I literally have never eaten a bad meal there. My favorite thing is the pistachio mushroom ravioli (it's to die for). They are pretty quick and the staff there is great. I have no complaints whatsoever. It's a must.

We went to Mangia e Bevi for a weeknight dinner for a party of 6. We sat outside. The service was slow and insincere throughout the meal except for when the server adjusted the umbrella so the sun wasn't in our eyes. Even bringing our drinks to the table took much longer than I would expect at any restaurant, especially one that charges $15-25 per entree. The food was decent, but nothing memorable. The mussels were too salty and the rockfish was overcooked. The most memorable part of the food service was the fact that all of the entrees were served at the same time except one. The final dish was cooked with regular pasta instead of gluten-free as it had been ordered and had to be remade. Most of us had finished our meals when the final dish came out. The waitress made no attempt to accommodate us for the restaurant's mistake. I have no plans to return as there are many better tasting Italian restaurants in Frederick with much better service. Overall, I would say Mangia e Bevi is not worth the price.

My wife and I are here from Long Island visiting our daughter. We are retired and have traveled extensively. Due to a new grandchild we ordered from the menu and had to do take-out. On both occasions we ordered for four adults and tried different items each time. The food was incredibly delicious; some of the best Italian we have ever eaten. We will be back next time we are visiting.

I love this place. I have tried several items on the menu and have yet to find something I didnt fall in love with. My favorite is the spicy shrimp fra diavolo!!!

We moved into the area last year and our neighbors told us about this place. We came and the food was good and variety was also good. Kids menu offered right size portions. Also offered later seating than other restaurants in the area. We will coming back again.

We finally got to make a return visit, and nabbed a spot in the dining room. We really enjoyed the entrees - chicken marsala for my wife, chicken "contadina" for me (sausage, roasted red peppers, mushrooms, and garlic with the chicken), plus a side of sauteed spinach (olive oil and roasted garlic). The pizzas at the tables around us looked great. Prices were certainly in-line for a place of this caliber - $15 pastas to $27ish lamb chops; I think our chicken entrees were $15.50. Even so, I'm gonna have to stick with 4 stars. At these prices - reasonable enough - for 5 stars, I'd expect fresh greens on the side salad (not a lame pile of iceberg with 3 carrot slices on top). I'd also expect a broader wine selection. And there were some other details. But it's overall it's well worth a visit, and family friendly as well ...

I love Mangia e Bevi and eat there a couple of times a month. The food is fresh and delicious and consistently good whilst still being reasonably priced. Standout dishes are the stuffed pepper and the steamed mussels appetiser. The fabulous lasagne is reminiscent of ones served in Europe rather than the overcheesed ones typically found in the US. Pollo marsala, ciambotto de pesce, and the rockfish are delicious and the limoncello gelato is to die for. Mangia e Bevi has a nice outdoor seating area in summer and the service is always friendly and attentive.

We decided to try Mangia e Bevi the other night based on all these positive reviews on Yelp. Big mistake.. Most of you must have just ordered the pizza. I ordered the flatbread for an appetizer- bland. Hubby ordered the stuffed green pepper- mushy, no flavor. Main meal: I ordered the Alfredo and had them add some grilled shrimp. Absolutely NO flavor..NO seasoning. I was so disappointed. My husband ordered the Veal Parma- substandard veal and we've tasted better sauce in a jar. They do not let their tomato sauce develop, which takes hours and you can tell. You know you're in a "Americanized" Italian restaurant when they give you a shake bottle of parmesan cheese. It didn't even smell like parmesan cheese. The $$$ of this meal does not justify going back for substandard Italian food. Maybe they should just stick to pizza. PS: Bring a pillow from home to sit on if you decide to eat in. Chairs are wooden and very uncomfortable.

Penne ala Vodka with grilled chicken....the best. Pizza is always good and the capuccino's are always made right.

My brother raves about this place but I don't know, it was ok. It's nice to sit outside on a nice night and drink a glass of wine and dine on some good italian food. I had the pasta with the sausage and sun dried tomatoes. The tomatoes were super salty which was kinda a turnoff but the rest of the dish tasted fine. Portions are pretty large even on top of all the bread they bring you before your meal. Not my favorite in all of Frederick but for Italian food it's not bad.

This place makes me wish I lived in Frederick! My Pop and I stopped in here for a much needed rest from riding our Harley's back from D.C. to Ohio. The Waitress was such a nice lady and even helped me ordering my custom made Gluten Free Pasta w/ Italian Sausage and Goat Cheese. I also got a Gorgonzola Salad topped w/ Goat Cheese. My Dad ordered the Salmon dish and ate every last nibble. The Old Man also got a Chianti Wine off my recommendation and it wasn't what he wanted so the lady got him a Cab at no extra charge. The Owner, waitress and everybody was friendly and the food was unbelievable! This is without a doubt fine dining and I dream of returning!

This review is only for their takeout pizza... I had to try their pizza after someone declared it the best pizza in Frederick on the message board (so my expectations may have been a little high to begin with). We got a large 1/2 cheese, 1/2 pepperoni and mushroom ( yelp.com/biz_photos/CWqR… ) for right around $15. Everything about it was good except that the bottom and edges of the crust were dusty with flour that turned brown and gritty in the oven. I've never experienced anything like it before and it really distracted me from fully enjoying it. I think it has potential and I'll try it again and write an update, but for now I can't really say that I liked it all that much. 2.5 stars

Our offices are about to move to the Urbana area, so we scoped the area out today for restaurants. We settled on Mangia e Bevi, and we're so glad we did. They greeted us warmly and seated the 7 of us quickly. For appetizers, we had garlic bread (so fluffy and warm!), calalmari (perfectly cooked, well seasoned, with a slightly spicy sauce), and the Porcini croquettes. I really loved the croquettes--they gave of an awesome fresh porcini aroma when broken open, and the rice filling was creamy and smooth, almost like a risotto. It was delicious. Everyone on the team ordered something different, and everyone enjoyed their entrees. I had the chicken al limone, and it was heavenly. The chicken was thin and moist, and the sauce was a tasty blend of lemon, artichoke and capers. Some places will make al limone so lemony that it's nearly a parody of itself. Thankfully, that wasn't the case here--the sauce was pretty much perfect. I'll be eating here again and again once our offices make the move.

The only restaurant worth eating at in Urbana. I would highly recommend this place if you like a solid New York style pizza. The pasta dishes and salads are ok, but over priced and nothing that will wow you. I love this spot to go with family and drink wine. They have a great wine selection. I like to order from here while I'm having a spa day at Dna lab (it's an organic salon next door) and magnolia spa where i enjoy a massage, and facial once a month.

I have been here many times and it is acceptable. Tonight was ridiculous. It is Valentine's Day evening...I called and made a reservation for 8pm...got there right on time with a few minutes to spare. We were seated right away and then proceeded to wait for over 15 minutes and we were never acknowledged. A couple came in after us and were promptly greeted and asked what they would like for starters. Needless to say, we walked out and I probably will never return. They even had my phone number from the reservation and they didn't even call to inquire why we had left. All I have found in the Villages of Urbana is total, utter disrespect and no customer service whatsoever. I will gladly give all my business to Montgomery County. You are a disgrace!

I've heard great things about this restaurant and finally had the opportunity to dine there. I arrived shortly after 7 p.m. on a Friday evening. The wait for a table was short, the staff was pleasant, the food came out in short order and was delicious, and the prices were reasonable. Need I say more?

I wanted to really like this place because it is close and I love good Italian--but after eating there three times I have decided I will only go back for pizza and dessert--both of which they do very well. I was disappointed with every entree and appetizer that we ordered (group of 4-6 people each time we went and I had a taste of everything that each person ordered--food was bland, bland, bland and veggies always, always over cooked.). The prices are really quite high for their entrees (average 15-25 dollars), this made me even more disappointed. All 3 stars I gave are for the pizza which I would give a 4 to 4.5 out of 5---very good crust, good sauce and good cheese. Reasonably priced as well. And the desserts which were all great. The pumpkin cheesecake was AMAZING!!! Have gone back twice now just for pizza and pumpkin cheesecake :) If I could give 5 stars for only that combo I would do so!

The food was good but the menu is a little uninspired. As a Italian born in Milan, I thought the name was clever and it got my attention. I was hoping for some true Italian dishes that I can't get elsewhere, like gnocci or a real carbornara. But it was not to be. The atmosphere was good, and so was the service. We had quite a few vegetarians in our group and they all found something the liked. This is a good surprise. I think, because the atmosphere is good and the name is smart I was expecting it to be a more upscale offering, but it is actually a really good pizza and sandwich place. The dishes we had were standard fare (like baked ziti, vegie pannini, etc.) but prepared well. Very flavorful. I'll definitely be back.

Was excited to come here because I don't go to many nice Italian restaurants. We had a reservation for a birthday with a party of 7 and were seated on time. The service all around was excellent, our drinks were topped off the whole night and they were very attentive even though it was Friday night and very busy. Now, for the food. We had the Fresh Mozzarella Caprese as an appetizer. While there wasn't anything wrong with it, it wasn't anything special. However, the rest of the meal was excellent. The bread they serve you with olive oil, rosemary and Parmesan cheese was so good I could have had that as my meal alone. All of the chicken dishes were excellent. I tried some of the Chicken Saltimboca which was cooked perfectly. I also tried some Fettuccine Alfredo and Chicken Carbonara. The Alferdo had a very good sauce that wasn't too thick. The carbonara was alright, nothing to write home about. Our dining partners also had good things to say about the Linguine with Clams and the Chicken Parmesean. For dessert we had the Tiramasu, Cheesecake, and a Cannoli. The Tiramasu here is like nothing else! The cheesecake was also really good, very much like cheesecake factory. I didn't get to try the Cannoli but I bet it's excellent. I had a great meal, and I would go back!

I have had the typical Italian staples here, sampling the pastas and the pizzas and highly recommend it! Service is both speedy and friendly. The do go out of there way to make sure you're happy, for when we went up to the counter before leaving to see if they had mints we were greeted by the owner who insisted on bringing us up some from the kitchen! Just a quick tip: They are pretty popular and do not take reservations for parties under five people, but do allow you to call ahead about 15 minutes to get on their wait list.

We come here a few times a month for the pizza which I have to say is excellent. That said I started to get tired of the pizza and decided to start trying some of the other dishes they offer. Very disappointing to say the least. Very bland so so food. Wasn't the worst I've had but nothing that would make me want to return if not for the pizza. Service is ok, again nothing spectacular.

We were very disappointed in our meal here the other night. My bride's lobster ravioli was fine but two others diners were very disappointed. One of us had spaghetti bolognese, the other with meatballs. The sauces were different and almost inedible. When the waitress asked if we needed red pepper and oregano we both answered in unison - YES. We tried to bring the bland tasteless sauces up not no avail, worst than jar sauce. And while I don't post many reviews (as we usually pick well) as a point of comparison we consider Cessco in Bethesda as our Italian standard...

Great food, as closed to real Italian food as one gets outside Italy ( I have not eaten in NYC Italian restaurants yet). The chef is Italian, from Puglia, a south-eastern province in Italy. He comes out of the kitchen to make sure customers get good service and attention. We have eaten there only 4 times, and so will update this review. The meat dishes seem more consistent than the sea-food dishes. The "Chicken Siciliano" is the first tender, moist, and flavorful chicken breast dish I have ever had in my life, filled with a subtle mix of flavors difficult to analyze, and SO delicious. The "Ciambotto del Pescatore" was disappointingly bland though the "Rack of lamb alla brace" was flawless... The sides that come with the entrées are well-prepared, and flavorful. The delicious bread is served warm, although the third refill may be cold older bread. Maybe a way to stop the refilling? The Tiramisù is consistently out of this world!! The profiteroles are a tad too chocolaty and sweet for us, but should please a sweet tooth. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food served; Go to Frederick or to Rockville, and you will see higher prices charged for pseudo Italian food. Our experience at Mangia et Bevi was better at dinnertime than at lunchtime.

I am married to an Italian and both her parents are Italian. The point is, we take our Italian cuisine seriously. Mangia is probably our favorite Italian restaurant. The pizza is divine (my father-in-law said it might be the best he has ever had) and the pasta sauces are excellent. Don't miss the cooked spinach with garlic and oil.

My family and I dined at Mangia e Bevi for the first time this past Friday night. We arrived for dinner late in the evening (7 pm) and we were very hungry, but I'm glad we gave this place a try. We ordered our kids meals first and their food came out very quickly, which is key when dining with young children. All the food came out very quickly, great service and friendly staff! The food was very delicious! We usually dine at Agrodolce in Germantown for Italian cuisine but now that we found Mangia e Bevi we plan to go back to dine again! It is hard to find places that have great food and also quick and friendly service.

After wanting to try this place for a year but never thinking about restaurants in Urbana when we're making dinner plans, we have now ended up eating here the past 2 Saturday evenings! We liked it so much 2 weeks ago, that we came back with 2 other couples the next weekend and all 6 of us really enjoyed our dinner and are planning to return. We were all in agreement that the bread was amazing - definitely some of the best bread that I have ever had in a restaurant! Some of the favorite entrees at the table were the Rigatoni can Salsiccia with Italian Sausage, Mushrooms, and Sun-dried tomatoes & the Chicken Saltimbocca with prosciutto (not on the online menu as they have added some delicious looking items that haven't been updated online yet). I ended my dinner with a delicious cappuccino that capped off a great meal! The service was a little slow, as their outdoor dining section was open that night, so the servers might have been a little swamped, but as long as they kept the bread coming, we were happy! Will definitely be going back here when we're in the mood for good Italian in the area!

This is one of the closest restaurants to our family's rural home. The Italian food is delicious, authentic, and consistent, so when my mom doesn't want to cook, we often stop over here and just grab dinner carry out. I love the rigatoni with eggplant, but my favorite single thing on the menu is the lemoncello flute with raspberry sauce. So fresh and clean, its the perfect end of a meal.

Love the food. Am married to an Itlaian and spent all my growing years visiting Atlantic City which makes me preety keen on good Italian food. Haven't tried the piza . Have dined here 3-4 times , trying various dinner entrees with my family. Excellent food, shrimp diablo and seafood was terrific. Good wine selection. We never waited very long for a table . Good service . terrific salads and desserts. Food prices are okay , that's why I gave it 4 stars.

There are many wonderful restaurants in Frederick but Mangia e Bevi is one of the gems. I have yet to have an ok meal here. Each time I have been there, and I have been there at least 20 times, I have enjoyed the delicious Italian food tremendously. The pizza, especially the dough is excellent. But the pasta dishes have been superb. The Calamari Fritti is delicious and the Penne Puttanesca is exceptional. They have a good selection of Italian wines as well. The owner treats each diner as a guest in his Italian home. I love this place.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
