I was expecting much more based on people's rave reviews. The crust had very little flavor. Very bland. It had a nice texture from the wood burning oven. The tomato sauce seemed a bit run of the mill and had a tinned taste like it needed to be stewed down a bit longer to real develop more flavor and sweetness. The toppings were generous and overall fresh and flavorful. However, when you put them on top of very mediocre dough and run of the mill tomato sauce it's like building a house on a bad foundation Not a bad experience but I don't find it rave worthy.

I've been going to Il forno for a while, attentive waitresses, excellent food, appetizers and their pizza they're known for definitely! Pretty decent selection of beers and mixed drinks there. Good atmosphere nice people all in all great place.

I'm giving Il Forno a star back because our last experience was much better. I was actually going to give them 2 back but then I had pizza from another local spot that blew them away so now the best I can do is 1. I think Il Forno is best for eating it there or taking it home only if you live close. Delivery seems to not be kind to their pies.

Pizza is really good. But DAMN it's really loud and obnoxious, and it's a Wednesday. Really to the point that, if I weren't starving I would leave.

Had their bacon and banana pepper pizza at my friend's place a couple years back and it was delicious and everything was cooked perfectly. Wanted pizza one night and remembered this place so I called them up and ordered a bacon and banana pepper pizza. When I got home to eat it, it was just not as good as I remember and honestly I wasn't very happy with it. The crust was soggy and definitely not how I remembered and the pizza in general was very mediocre. Probably won't come back too expensive for my taste for the quality.

Color me Disappointed: There are many types of pizza, true Neapolitan, New Haven style, New York style, Chicago style etc. I am a New Haven fan. Nothing better that the thin crunchy BUT chewy crust, full of flavor. I judge this to be closest to NY. Crust is poor, almost no flavor. Needs salt at least. Tomatoes sauce the same. Toppings are toppings, but I note the cheese and meatballs were very good. Overall, we will not be going back as the foundation of good pizza is the crust and then a good sauce.

I love Il Forno pizzas. The toppings are fresh and the crust is superb. I've always been a fan of the more Neapolitan/Roman style pizzas and this place does not disappoint. The crust is thin but not so thin that it falls apart. The pizza had just the right ratio of sauce to cheese and they didn't scrimp on the toppings either. I'm so excited that there's an Il Forno that opened in northern Virginia as well since Frederick is a bit of a drive for me. I'll definitely be coming back to this place when I get that hankering for a great pizza.

Waitress was awful. I was there on a Wednesday night, not crowded at all. Ordered a Stella and was given BudLight or something of the like in a Stella glass. Then I saw a sign that on Wednesdays if you order a Stella, you get to keep the glass.... the waitress took my glass. Then, when we got our check, the waitress put 3 glasses of wine on our bill when my girlfriend only ordered 2. (She took off the extra glass, but didn't bother to recalculate the tax) Finally, I checked my statement online and it turns out they put on a bigger tip/total price than what I gave them. Hopefully this is a reflection on the waitress and not the restaurant.

We got the queso sticks and the funghi and ham pizza. The queso sticks were great, Spicy and delicious! The pizza was also on point. I wasn't a big fan of the crust but still enjoyed the pizza overall!

The service was great, but pizza was horrible. The pizza sauce tasted like a basic speghetti maragnara sauce, and sausage was bland. The crust would have been okay, but it was soggy. Not sure why, but it could have been caused by the maragnara sauce.

(3/29/2014) Stopped by on the later side (9:30 pm on a Saturday night) in need of some dinner, online said they were open until 2:00 am). The place was packed at the bar and there was a large birthday party of 40 or so (pretty much the entire dining room) hogging the place. It was hard to tell if we were ever going to be served if we sat, but we did, and we were. Started with Eggplant Fries (sides of ranch dressing and chunky marinara); primarily the bitter, squishy eggplant is a just a vehicle for fried batter. Ordered their large (16") #10 Quasi Veggie with bacon (also choices of sausage, ham, or chicken available). Bottom of the pie was slightly charred on the bottom but overall temp was well underdone; it was slightly cool in the middle, cheese barely melted (soft but no "strings", no browning), green peppers and onions still quite raw and crunchy. Crust had an open crumb, slight springiness, very light in texture. Overall, bland crust and sauce (more like just diced canned tomatoes. Service was as attentive as they could be and that wasn't bad. Prices were reasonable. Place seems to be very popular with the local crowd and families. I'm not going out of my way to get back there, but I'm sure they'll be fine without me.

I had a coupon where you buy the large pizza you get the small cheese pizza for free. I've had their pizza before and always loved it, but it was always something that someone brought home. I wanted to try it fresh. I got to say I'm not sure what's up with the haters. This is good pizza. I found the crust was cooked to perfection, the toppings were plentiful, I didn't think that the sauce was as bland as everybody says, and the cheese tasted good as well. The staff was very nice and friendly, even carrying someone's food to their car for them because they had an infant with them. I'd say if you're interested in getting a decent pizza and maybe watching some sports this might be the place for you. I enjoyed it and will be back.

Yesterday (Mothers Day) I took home their "Greek" pizza with onions and pepperoni as extra toppings. It was the most tasteless thing I ever ate. The bread or crust was like eating cardboard. The worst of it all is having nasty diarrhea ever since.

Not the Best Pizza in Frederick! Ordered the carnivore pizza #15 on their menu.I hate the dark burnt spots that their high heat oven turns out, the chared black areas are so bitter! Now, this place gets the title "Best of Frederick" for their pizza almost every year straight. No way, no how, no never is this even close to being the best pizza in Frederick. My pizza wasn't hot all the way through. It was luke warm on top and the bottom was hot. Luke warm ham, sausage, etc, toppings is nasty. We did get a cannoli for dessert and it was really good. Take the canolli's, leave the pizza.

This place is steadily, consistently good. I went here once for happy hour and I have been here for lunch and dinner. The crab stuffed pretzel isn't actually stuffed, interestingly, but it is delicious. You can't go wrong with any of their pizzas- again, the crab pizza is fantastic. I've also had the breadsticks, which were very good and has the exact right texture. The drinks were apparently not remarkable because I can't even remember anything I had to drink there except soda. This is definitely one of the better pizza places in Frederick.

Il Forno is within walking distance of my house, but it's the kind of place I have to be in a mood for. When I do go, the overall experience is outstanding, with one or two minor details being the difference between four and five stars. Service: staff is very friendly, prompt, and attentive. Drinks (at least sodas) rarely go empty, but the servers don't seem to hover. They just happen to show up when they're needed. Appetizers: I've only had the buffalo wings, but they're nothing short of spectacular. They use Frank's Red Hot, which in itself is a pretty basic hot sauce, but there's something about the combination of Frank's and the breading on their wings...my wife and I agree, we could each make a meal out of just an order of wings. Pizza: this is what I usually get when I eat here. The pizza is delicious, but the crust is slightly bland. That's the main reason I have to be in a mood to eat here. By the standards of brick-oven pizza, their pies are absolutely to die for, but compared with the highly seasoned crust of places like Dominos and Pizza Hut, it lags behind just a bit. However, Il Forno's pizza toppings more than make up the difference. A tip...get a side of dipping sauce for the crust. What a difference, and suddenly the crust is as good as the rest of the pizza.

Pizza is great. Love the crust. Their specialty pizzas are awesome! Buffalo chicken is our favorite specialty pizza, the crab pizza is a little too salty for my taste. The wings are OK, so far our only disappointment with this restaurant.

Yes indeed, a local pizza place is just what I need for those times when just a chewy crust will make my world a better place. This place has great cheese pizzas plus try the ones with goat cheese for a delicious addition. What's even better are the fried pickles, zucchini, and eggplant! Mmmm, fried goodness! So yummy!
(4)

We tried Il Forno again and had a better experience. I think the key is to eat in instead of delivery. Maybe? The pizza and pasta sauce still lacks depth of flavor and salt, and I rarely add salt to my food. Their sauce is a lot like canned crushed tomatoes. Meh. The crab pretzel was recommended to us and was surprisingly delicious! Better experience than last time, but still room for improvement.

The only Place my family orders pizza from in Frederick. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Ilforno's carry out service is always punctual and we haven't had any mistakes so far. However, I mostly eat at the bar. Their beer selection is always being updated with cool craft beers as well as all the classics.

Just your average neighborhood pizza joint. Great place for game watching if you need a place. Pizzas are well done and has great toppings, including some "gourmet" ones. I highly recommend getting either their herb-seasoned ricotta or some basil. Those made a difference! If you have room for desserts, try their funnel fries. Yes - it is exactly what you think it is. And it's amazing. Not good-for-your-health amazing, but great-tasting amazing.

As my family and friends know I'm not a big fan of pizza. I can go months if not years without having a urge to have pizza. Maybe that's due in part to the only pizza I routinely had growing up was the boring bland pizza from a chain. One night my wife who loves pizza had a urge for some so I thought we would try the place that advertises the best in town. The first thing that grabbed our attention when we walked in was the brick oven they use for their pizzas. I've been told that a brick oven is the only real way to bake a pizza. Looking over the large menu with numerous pizzas on it we decided on a white pizza. While we waited we were pleasantly welcomed to sit at the bar and have a beer. The bar tenders were very nice I might add. Ten minutes or so our pizza was ready and looking delicious. We hurried home and wow, wow wow! Just after one bite I my eyes were opened to what a real pizza is. The cheese, garlic, and dough were all so flavorful that this one bite blew away every chain pizza I had ever had. This pizza alone was so delicious that it turned this non pizza guy around and when I do have the urge for a pizza now. This is the only place I'll go to.

Il Forno can be a hit or miss for me. It used to be 4 stars in my book when I frequented the bar but has since shifted to 3. The pizza is pretty darn good and it is one of two places we'll order carry out from when we are craving pizza. The cannolis are by far the best in Frederick. Skip the fried zucchini, all you'll taste is oil. Needs a bit of a pick me up tables and chairs wise, but the bar is decent though.

In my opinion, the best pizza in Frederick! I always order the large Vito and pick up some whiskey next door. Nothing like getting hammered and basking in the smell of a delicious Il Forno Vito!

Best pizza in Frederick?! This was some of the most forgettable pizza I have ever had. Bland crust, bland sauce, bland toppings. I ordered the Margherita pizza, which anywhere else in America is FRESH mozzarrella, tomatoes and basil. Here it doesn't have tomatoes. Odd. Believe me, it needed tomatoes. And it had shredded mozz. So boring. Price was ok, I guess. Place looks like something from the early 80's...and not in a cool, retro way.

Last night I gave this place my last dime. I've been ordering delivery for a couple of years now - very sporadically though. I have tried most things on the menu. The pizza is ok. I think they top the pizza with one small mushroom, a small slice of onion, never see any peppers and the taste is bland. I've order the garlic breadsticks - hard a rocks with no flavor whatsoever. I've ordered the appetizer sampler - so much grease everything was dripping. I've order the Buffalo Chicken strips which are suppose to be one of their highlighted dishes - totally terrible! The chicken was so hard it was like eating wood and so over spiced they were inedible! I've ordered the Caprese salad. The mozzarella tasted very old - I was afraid to eat it. The only good thing at this restaurant is the Kickin Crap Soup. The food used to be good and I don't know what happened but I am ripping up the menu and will never waste my money again!

The male bartender they had working tonight needs fired. It took 40 minutes for me to get a meal to go and they weren't super busy. Once I got my food he didn't ring me up, and I had to flag down the female bartender to check me out. Guy was picking his feet, AT THE BAR! Glad I already had my food. Yuck! Fries were soggie, under done, and cold. I had to put on my toaster oven. Pesto chicken hard hardly any chicken on it. Chowder very salty. Last time they have me the wrong order. Stick to pizza only.

Unfortunately I have to give this place a bad review although the pizza is very good. Tonight my husband and I wanted delivery and saw online that they now deliver within a 7 mile radius so I called and placed my order. When the the waitress asked my address which is All Saints in downtown Frederick (well within the range) she said "Oh I'm sorry I was told we can't deliver to that street anymore, there was a really bad problem/issue with delivery there." I was in shock I have NEVER in my life heard of such a thing. I am not scared of my street or for my safety and I'm left confused and angry because that is absolutely discrimination. I spoke with a manager as well who said the owners have said for the safety of the drivers who have had confrontations they will not deliver there. He stated that they have other problem streets that they no longer deliver too as well, but did not disclose them. Although he was courteous and apologized my mind is made up. My husband and I are disgusted and will not return to the restaurant and I hope everyone that reads this will decide to not give them business as well. We ordered from Vocelli's, whom we usually order from for delivery instead. We've lived here since March '12 and haven't been denied service from them at all.

Great pizza! We are pretty new to Frederick so we wanted to try several pizza places out that were not your regular "Domino's or Papa Johns". This was regrettably last on our list but by far the best! After trying out several places which all ranged from terrible to just okay, we found our regular pizza place! Great food, good delivery, friendly staff!

The pizza here is good but the service is not. I ordered a Bacon Lover pizza for takeout and didn't discover until I got home that they gave me the wrong pizza. I called to see how they would rectify the situation and was told that I told them I ordered a Works pizza. I absolutely did not and my family heard me order a Bacon Lover pizza. The girl kept asking me what I wanted them to do and I finally said I wanted the right pizza delivered to my house and to waive the $3 delivery charge. After being put on hold for the 3rd time, I handed the phone off to my husband. He asked what the difference for the pizzas were and she said she didn't know....she had the receipt right in front of her because she had claimed earlier she had it in front of her while telling me I ordered wrong. The whole situation was so frustrating!!! In the end, the manager personally delivered our pizza, gave us the monetary difference and apologized for the whole situation explaining that Friday nights are really busy (duh, you're a PIZZA joint!!!) and that sometimes people try to pull a fast one with their orders. So in short, I was told I ordered the wrong pizza and they thought I was trying to get free food (?). I'd say I'm not ordering from here again which is too bad because the pizza is good. It was just a really bad experience and I hope nobody else has to go through this. Lesson learned: check the pizza before leaving the restaurant. *Update 8/4/14* Well, gave it another go. Pizza was soggy and the crust had no flavor at all. The most disappointing part? Our '10 chicken strips' appetizer were basically breaded chicken jerky. They were pounded so thin and were over-fried, then cut into little pieces. It was the most bizarre thing. Sigh.

Craft beer selection is half decent. Pizza is amazing, and they deliver!! Kitchen is open late for those late night cravings. I love the sausage, mushroom & onion combo. The BBQ chicken is pretty good too.

Long story short.... I got the lasagna with a side of mozz sticks and my girlfriend got the chicken parm. I hope you like tomato's because they put big chunks in everything, my marinara sauce for the mozzarella was just a small cup of a tomato chunk and juice. I'm a HUGE lasagna fan, favorite food right there and I understand a restaurant will never come close to home made when it comes to that but this was the worst lasagna I've ever had, bland color and taste....t was so bland tasting that either of us were not looking forward to the next bite. I ended up barely eating a quarter of my portion. Chicken Parmesan was the same story, chicken was rubbery and had no taste, was served, chopped in a bowl (wtf?) Garlic bread was served on a pizza slice...so I don't know how people are giving this place good reviews because the crust was bland, soft and "lifeless" As for service...all I have to say is we had 3 different servers Seems to me this is just another place for people to throw back alcohol so they're not really concerned with food quality, I wish we didn't have to gives places like this a star at all.

May very well be the best pizza in Frederick. Would recommend the visit.

Worst pizza! Soggy cold middle, bland sauce, cheap cheese. Fried eggplant sticks were a tasteless soggy barrel full of grease, gross! Service was sub par, seems they only cater to their regulars. Used to be a decent place but appears to have fallen down like the rest of the Rt. 40 area. Never going back.

This is my favorite pizza place in Frederick, but I really only like it if I can eat it there. Some horrible transformation takes place in the box on the way home and the crust turns rubbery from the steam. My favorite of their pizzas is The Buffalo chicken. It's the only one I've ever had that uses wing sauce as the pizza sauce. Most others seem to just marinade or toss the chicken in it and they end up without much flavor. I also love their puttanesca with goat cheese and I REALLY want to try the crab pizza some time but I haven't been able to talk my boyfriend into it. We recently stopped in for lunch and had their sandwiches for the first time. I had a tuna melt and my boyfriend had a buffalo chicken wrap. Both were good, but I especially love the bread that they use for their subs. The only thing that I haven't really been a fan of is their fried appetizers. They've been very greasy on most occasions and some, like the fried pickles, slide right out of the breading. They have a pretty decent selection of beers on tap, although I wish they'd add more seasonals. Summer is the best time to go on a Friday or Saturday night because the patio seating doubles the size of the dining room. It can get pretty crowded otherwise and there really isn't much of a waiting area, so everybody crowds inside the entrance. There are quite a few two-person tables, so you're probably best off if there are only two of you.

Good pizza (loved the whole wheat crust!); appallingly bad (slow, indifferent) service. Also, beware- the fried pickles are not chips or slices, they are literally battered whole pickles. Soggy and gross.
They have pretty decent thick pizza. They do not do thin crust unfortunately. The bbq chicken pizza is the BEST! Their regular pizza is very good. The place is generous with their food portion. We had ordered several pizzas for a party that we had last summer. My guests "raved" how great their pizzas were. Their dinner entrees is just ok. I still would go back to have it again. Their servers were ok. The owner or management was nice to us. I suggest for Il Forno to please serve thin crust pizza as I will bet they are just as delicious! I look forward going back soon!

It's our favorite place to watch games and have a beer because it's a pretty laid back place. The Maryland crab soup is good. Our favorite is the shrimp Alfredo pizza. The service isn't that great but the pizza and atmosphere make up for it.

By far my favorite pizza place in the Frederick/ Hagerstown area. You can't go wrong with the Vito (pepperoni and garlic), but you better have your Tums ready. I haven't tried their other non-pizza dishes, so I can't over any insight into that, but for pizza I would definitely recommend it.

This is the best pizza in town. I recommend the crab, buffalo, or bacon, spinach, and goat cheese, but I can't say I've ever had a pizza that wasn't fantastic. It's a brick oven joint, so if you don't like an occasional crispy spot or a little "tougher" crust, you might have qualms, but that's rarely happened to me in the million or so times I've gone in. The appetizers are good as well, but I've never actually ordered anything else from the menu to be able to attest. The drink specials are usually good and if you get to know the bartenders, you can expect your bill to be a lot lighter every time you stop in. The staff does a really good job, with management's approval, of "hooking up" their customers with deals. It gives it a more personal feel. But really, it's all about the pizza. I haven't had pizza anywhere in Frederick that's come close to offering the same quality or variety, and even outside the immediate area it's tough to find competition. I went to Graffiatio's in DC recently, for example, and spent about three times what you'll spend at Il Forno for "gourmet" pizza that wasn't nearly as good and no where near as well-portioned.

I previously gave this place a 1 star because of their limited options for healthy choices. I'm still not crazy about this place, but I did recently try their pizza. And as much as I want to hate them, the pizza really is good. Probably because it's overloaded with cheese. (Mmmmmm, cheese) So, it's not something I could eat often and still be able to fit into my jeans. Still... i hate them only a little less...

UPDATE: My last visit wasn't super great as my crust was a little under done, but overall the quality tasted a lot better overall. I'm definitely more than will to keep giving them my money for pizza. The tastes of the wood burning oven came through with a nice smokey taste. The cheese was extra chewy (extra cheese) and overall the sauce tasted a little better this time. Good for Il Forno's. ORIGINAL: I know some people swear by this pizza. I'm not sure why. Sure, they have a brick over pizza, but so do a hell of a lot of pizza joints. That's not to say the pizza isn't good, it is. But, it's not the great orgasmic, world's best pizza joint some locals seem to think it is. Even after thirty years in Frederick, it's just not the best pizza out there. Sure, it's better than most of the local joint, just don't expect handjobs and cream soda here-it's a pizza.

Il Forno does a better pizza than most places. Their sandwiches and appetizers are also great.

How could you not love Il Forno Pizza? My family and I have been eating here for over 20 years, and our grandson is now continuing the tradition. He loves his Il Forno "peba." I like the Hawaiian and the Pepperoni and my husband is partial to the Alla Puttanesca with Goat Cheese. The pizza is cooked in a real wood oven and has a fairly thin crust topped with delicious cheese and toppings. The staff are friendly and professional. It can get busy here, but we have never had to wait for a table. Il Forno will continue to be our go to pizza restaurant in Frederick.

I luuuuurve Il Forno's! In my opinion, they have the best pizza in Frederick; great selections and variety of pies, as well as a fantastic crust which is doughy yet crispy-crunchy on the outside edges. You can tell these pizzas aren't cookie cutter circles of blandness and grease like SOME pizza joints. Although I haven't personally been, I have a group of friends who consistently go to their trivia nights and have an awesome time. The service is friendly and prompt, and they're accomodating of groups of all sizes. Outdoor seating is seasonally available, and there's a full bar, with tons of TVs tuned into various sporting events. Our favorites are the four cheese (mozz, ricotta, fontina, and goat cheese), alla fiorentina (spinach and ricotta with a TON of minced garlic), and the alla puttanesca (artichokes, capers, garlic, and olives- which I always pick off). I also love the cheese fries here- I don't know why, besides the fact that the fries are tasty- it's just toasted mozzerella over a load of spuds. Delish, nonetheless. The only disappointment I've experienced here is the fried pickles; so not worth it. I don't know why it's so difficult to find fried pickles around here, AND have them taste decent. These are just batter, hold the pickle. They also get bonus points for serving birch beer in frosty mugs. *Heart*

Got pizza from here last week - crust was burnt and it was awful. Posted on their FB page about bad pizza as well as sending them an email message about it. Called several times as well - manager never in the restaurant. No response from anyone. It is obvious to me that they don't care about customer service or I would have had a response from someone by now. Won't spend my money there again anytime soon.

I was really disappointed by this place. Despite the generous portions, the pizza quality was sub-par. The problem I had with their pizza was the texture of the dough. The texture felt like bread that is hard to bite into. You know when you bite into something and have a lot of trouble detaching the portion you have in your mouth from the piece you have in your hand? Yea, that is what I'm talking about. This problem gets worse if you reheat leftover pizza from the day before. We had ordered from Il Forno for a small get together and ordered enough to satisfy everyone's hunger, but I will never go back to this place again.

I suggest eating at the restaurant where you can enjoy the pizza as soon as it comes out of their brick oven. The mozzarella they use is awesome.

I love Il Forno pizza...my favorite is definitely the Alla Fiorentina, with spinach, ricotta, and garlic. All of the pizzas are delicious. I ordered a veggie cheese melt sandwich once and was disappointed--definitely go with the pizza. Inside there is a dining room and a bar (TVs usually set to sports), and they also have outdoor seating. Lots of people sit outside with pizza and a pitcher of beer.

Il Forno's is pizza. Pizza from heaven. I'm drooling on myself just thinking about it. I have been going to Il Forno Pizzeria for as long as I can remember. I've lived in the area for over 20 years and as far as I know, Il Forno has always been there, and the food has always been fantastic. There would always be a long wait on weekends to get in and get a table and that wait was always worth it! No other pizza in Frederick beats these delicious New York-style pies, baked to God-like pizza perfection in a wood burning oven. The menu is huge and offers an infinite number of possibilities because they have so many delicious gourmet toppings to choose from. I am a personal fan of goat cheese on pizza and Il Forno is thankfully one of the few pizza restaurants around who offer it as a topping. You can also get fresh tomatoes, fresh basil, minced garlic and dozens of other really fantastic additions to customize any pizza to your liking. Summing it up, I can't think of any downsides to Il Forno, other than that it could have a better atmosphere and it's located on the now not-so-golden "Golden Mile". It is a pizza joint, though, so you can't expect much ambiance. It felt cozier before they expanded and made it much larger, but due to its popularity, it definitely needed the expanding. This is probably the only place I'll passionately miss when I finally move out of the area. Here's hoping it stays in business until the end of time.

Fantastic pizza, best in Frederick...the other food is good too! This is brick oven pizza, so it may have parts that are darker brown-this does not mean its burnt. The staff is really friendly also, love it here!!

Best pizza in frederick in my opinion! Yums: + BBQ Chicken, Quazi-Veggie, Ala fiorentina Pizza + Birch beer- i dont know anywhere else that has it Letdowns: - Service can be slow - mozzarella sticks and fried pickles should be better - no delivery Pricing: Moderate Atmosphere: tables and a brick oven, plenty of tv's and a small bar scene Dress: very casual Service: hit or miss, but never rude Food: A for the pizza Parking: Ample and Free Wait: 15-20 min on weekend nights Overall Grade: A

Love the bar. Love the pizza! Love how friendly the servers and bar tenders are!

Overall, great quality and value. We sat outside on the patio, which by the way had great beer specials such as $2 landshark, $3 red stripe, $2 pbr shotgun, and others. The pizza was obviously fresh and great quality, semi-thin crispy crust and loaded with the toppings. I believe I got the medium everything pizza. I couldn't even finish it myself, which I felt amazed. The service was ok since there was only 1 person working, but we got our beers every time we needed. The only reason there isn't 5 stars is that there is nothing good on tap and no specials for draught beers. Personally, I would rather have a draught beer than a bottled, but oh well.

If your a pizza fan, then here is really pizza! oven baked and made as soon as ordered. The salad is not as good. They have subs which are good. The birch beer is great! The are a pepsi carrier. They just recently expanded which means they have more seating. The out door seating is okay, but i like the indoor better. They are usually playing sports games on the TV's. Kid friendly too!

The Best Pizza I've ever had is @ Il Forno. The way they do wood-burning-oven pizza is Perfect. The only reason that I don't give them 5 stars is that I don't think the service is always perfect. I've never had a problem with the service; yet, I've never had service their that has blown me away. Yet, the Pizza makes up for everything to make it a place we'll always eat: as long a they don't keep increasing prices like they've started doing. Last, a real good place to catch the game with all their new HD TVs.

This is a great pizza joint. Great pizza: fresh flavorful toppings, great sauce and very important, great crust. My only complain is the crust could use an extra pinch of salt. I understand salt is bad for you and all, but come on, a pinch! The rest of the food is also very good: the salads, the appetizers are all fantastic. I love the app sampler with zucchini fries and mozzarella sticks. The greek salad is excellent and calzones are delicious. My favorite pizzas are the florentine (garlic goodness) and the gourmet works (with a fantastic pork sausage which is not greasy). Also very important, beer is always cold and plentiful. A great friday night joint.

Incredibly good crust. Nice toppings. Not overful, not skimpy. Fast pick up service. For a newcomer the pick up window is hidden and they sort of look at you funny if you walk into the main part and ask to pick up a pizza. Inexpensive. Great as left overs, too!

Just your run of the mill pizza/pub type place but when we ever put the four cheese pizza in our mouths? HELLO. This pizza was absolutely amazing. We remarked on it all day. I look forward to heading back and trying another kind!

Delicious brick oven pizza. They now offer wheat crust as an option. You can create your own pizza or they have some great signature pizzas such as the vito (pepperoni and garlic) and four cheese (I like to add spinach to it). I am not a big fan of ranch dressing, but get a salad with their house ranch on it. It is awesome. The waitresses are generally very friendly. Since they have expanded, they now have a takeout window by the large bar area. It is nice to have a beer while you wait on your pizza. Sitting outside is also an option.

Favorite pizza in Frederick by far. Really great variety with a ton of different combinations. Price is also very reasonable, usually just do takeout.

Growing up in New York and always having the best pizza choices outside of Italy to choose from, the pizza at II Forno is average at best in comparison. Maybe its not fair to compare II Forno pizza to New York City/Brooklyn NY/Bronx NY, New Haven Ct pizza, but I have to based my comparison on what I am accustomed to. The II Forno pizza is doughy all the way to and including the crust, which isnt really a crust at II Forno. Maybe if I had asked for my pizza more well done, it would have had a better sear on the bottom of the pie and it wouldnt have been as doughy. The sauce was very good, but the dough and cheese overwhelmed the taste of the sauce. There is a rise to the pizza dough as well, so the thickness of the regular pizza is somewhere between a thin crust and sicilian style pizza. It is interesting how a pizza cooked in a coal fired oven didnt have a crunch to it, on the bottom of the pizza or on the crust. The plum tomato slices on the pizza selection I ordered were horrible. It is mid September, so good tomatoes are not out of season yet. They were a hint of red, and very hard even after cooking on the top of a pizza that was in a coal fired oven. Because they had no flavor and were hardly even ripe, I removed them all off of the pizza. For a stop off after traveling through the area, it filled me up but didnt rise to my list of "must stop again" pizza spots.

I love this place. Every time I go there I get excellent service from great people. I t really does not matter what you order it is all well prepared, hot and ample. I hate to post this because I don't want to wait in line the next time I go.

Il Forno is the standard to which I hold all other pizza... even having moved halfway across the country to Dallas, I still find myself craving their pizza. I stop here everytime I visit home! I've been going here since I was in high school. Like others have said.. perfect crust. They bake them in the big brick wood fired oven in the back. I'm an especially big fan of their pizza bianca.. LOADS of yummy cheese, olive oil, and fresh garlic.. and its CHEAP! Everyone is always insanely friendly here, and service is super fast. Their new expansion is very nice - tons of seating, a big bar area, and lots of tvs... honestly though, I'd probably still come here even if it were a hole in the wall.. its just THAT good. Their wedding soup is delicious too - it really hits the spot on a chilly day. My boyfriend adores their tuna melt. I always end up stealing a few of his fries. They're perfect boardwalk style. Oh, and while you're there, try the cannoli.. if you manage to have any room left!

Nothing was really spectacular. Not enough dressing on Ceasar salad, caprice salad was okay at best, pizza was just awful. My group of friends have never not finished a pizza before. Only saw our waiter twice before getting the check (ordering, and one drink refill) even though the place wasn't busy. The tables are too small and there are too many tables. It's a room fill with what seems like 100 2 square foot tables. It's pretty uncomfortable. Mediocre, but not terrible. A few simple improvements could turn this place into a 5. I've believe in you, Il Forno!

So delicious! It was such a pleasant surprise. The pizza is good whether you want a regular pepperoni pizza or if you are like me and want olives, goat cheese and artichoke hearts. Delicious for any pallet!

I love this place. I've never eaten inside there. I crave their Margherita Pizza, and the Alla Puttanesca w/ Goat Cheese is TDF! The dough is amazing and when I get down to the crust I just dip it in EVOO and it's fabulous. Having a mouthgasm as I type this. Even their ranch dressing is the bomb. Don't go anywhere else in Frederick for Pizza. Good prices!

I personally think Ilforno is one of the best pizza places in Frederick! They have quality ingredients and there sauce is homemade and the crust has a unique wonderful taste because of the wood burning oven. There sausage is the best I've ever had. Also there margarita pizza is my favorite. My husband likes the Vito pizza and it has fresh garlic on it amazing! Also they have lots of other great selections there fries are fresh cut and there subs are good also! Great atmosphere and the porch is nice to sit on when the weather is nice! The only thing I wouldn't reccomend getting is there boneless buffalo wings there terrible! Terrible sauce and is just the weirdest looking things ever other then that great place!

Hmmm .... very unfortunate that I have to downgrade after tonight's takeout. The pizza (#3 alla Salsaccia or something like that) was mostly good, as normal, but the cheese was totally inferior - like did they start using the cheese substitute to save money?? And the linguine with meatballs was bad - standard linguine, but food service meatballs, burnt no less. I've had so much better here ... so I'm only knocking back to 3 stars, hoping tonight's 1.5 star debacle was just a totally rare off night in a string of 4 star performances. I'm hoping ....

My wife and I have survived raising 8 children by coming here for Friday "date night" for the last 14 years. The food is always good, they have added some nice delicious new items, but the wood burning pizza ovens have always been our standard for pizza. This is real pizza, not that mass produced junk. The staff is by far the best wait staff anywhere. It does not get better!

For the most part the pizza at Il Forno is very good. They have some great toppings and the atmosphere and staff are wonderful and inviting. The crust is a hit or miss for me. Sometimes its fantastic and other times its not as good. That's not to say its bad either... just not as good as I've had on good days, if that makes any sense. I wish it would be a little more consistent. In all, we LOVE going to Il Forno's to eat and will continue to return.

For a dive-y, strip mall pizza joint with little to no "ambiance," the pizza was DELICIOUS, the service was fantastic, and the price was just right! Hard to find a complaint, but I'd have to say a little bit more flavor in the crust would have been nice - but the save was awesome, the toppings were generous and the consistency of the crust was perfect. If we find ourselves in Frederick again, we'll definitely get pizzas from here!

I hadn't been here in years, but I stopped for lunch recently. The wood fired pizza was great and served surprisingly fast. They are also expanding so the place should turn out pretty nice.

This place is my favorite pizza spot in Frederick. I have been disapppointed by many local spots, but this place rocks! If you are a meat lover get their meat lover's pizza. There are half meatballs on the pizza! I love how their pizza sauce tastes too. I get a side bowl of it and dip my pizza into it while I eat. The bar section is a great place to sit if you are looking for a adut only spot, but the main restaurant section would work well for parents and their children. They always have a drink special too. Try it and you will love it!

I really enjoyed this place on the occasions that I went. The meatball sub is probably the best in the area (at least I have yet to find its equal). The pizza is good, the crab soup is tasty. I have yet to be disappointed, and thats amazing.

Cheap, fast, outdoor seating, and the most perfect thin-crust pizza around. What more could you want? Try garlic, sausage, and ricotta for a real artery-clogging treat!

Friendly service. Good steak sandwich. pizza was great, loved the crust, but it and salad were a bit too heavy on the cheese for my liking--next time will order order light cheese. Will come back for sure

Amazing pizza....definitely no Papa John's chain pizza here! You can taste the authentic homemade taste. They have a wide variety of toppings which all enhance the pizza. They also have a patio, which we've never eaten on, but would be lovely to enjoy lunch or dinner!

Yum. Crust is thin, crispy and chewy all at the same time. You can get any combination of toppings. We always order more, so that we have leftovers.

let me start off by saying i am very, very picky about pizza. but i absolutely LOVE il forno. i grew up in NYC and when i eat at il forno i feel like i am transported back home. good, family pizza place, laid-back atmosphere, and the four cheese pizza is out of this world. i think they should open another branch on market street, they would make a killing, but actually the fact that it's in a strip mall sort of adds to its charm-- it is totally unpretentious and just does what it does really well.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

(5)Karri V.
(3)Jason Y.
Pizza is really good. But DAMN it's really loud and obnoxious, and it's a Wednesday. Really to the point that, if I weren't starving I would leave.
(3)Derek C.
(2)Bob M.
(2)Eydie Q.
(5)Timothy C.
(1)Michael B.
We got the queso sticks and the funghi and ham pizza. The queso sticks were great, Spicy and delicious! The pizza was also on point. I wasn't a big fan of the crust but still enjoyed the pizza overall!
(3)Robin A.
The service was great, but pizza was horrible. The pizza sauce tasted like a basic speghetti maragnara sauce, and sausage was bland. The crust would have been okay, but it was soggy. Not sure why, but it could have been caused by the maragnara sauce.
(2)A. C.
(3)Mike C.
(4)George B.
Yesterday (Mothers Day) I took home their "Greek" pizza with onions and pepperoni as extra toppings. It was the most tasteless thing I ever ate. The bread or crust was like eating cardboard. The worst of it all is having nasty diarrhea ever since.
(1)Phill Y.
(2)Chelsea R.
(4)Pete G.
(4)Jesse B.
Pizza is great. Love the crust. Their specialty pizzas are awesome! Buffalo chicken is our favorite specialty pizza, the crab pizza is a little too salty for my taste. The wings are OK, so far our only disappointment with this restaurant.
(4)R S.
So yummy!
(4)Neena R.
(4)Bill S.
Momma wanted PIZZA so had to find some quickly from hotel enjoyed the food. Dah what can you say pizza
(4)Abdullah A.
haven't tasted food as good as here since a long time ago. The best and would give it 6 stars. The chicken buffalo dip is a must try appetizer!
(5)Paul G.
(5)Manny M.
Worse restaurant in frederick bragging to be the best place for pizzas !!!!!!! What a joke pizza dough tasteless ask for a margarita got a soggy 1 and half inch full of pizza sauce from a can with process mozzarella cheese and 4 leaves of basil instead of a thin crispy fresh tomatoes fresh mozzarella and nice basil my wife had a dry pasta full of the same tomatoes sauce tasteless and chewy calamari service is at his worst don't even now what they selling server brought the wrong pizza first that was for an other table no checking to see if everything was Ok management no where to be find what a shame could be so good with those wood oven what a shame again never going back again will spread the word to make sure people's don't spend their money for nothing best pizza carabas!!!!!!
(1)Tu-van L.
(3)Matthew B.
(4)Victoria Z.
(3)Audrey W.
Wow, I think I have found the best Buffalo Chicken in town!
(5)Dikembe Z.
In my opinion, the best pizza in Frederick! I always order the large Vito and pick up some whiskey next door. Nothing like getting hammered and basking in the smell of a delicious Il Forno Vito!
(5)Angela S.
(2)Renee R.
(1)Sondra K.
Love this place soooooo much. Everything tastes so good. Drinks are great, service is fun, they always remember who you are :-) feels like home!
(5)Wang C.
(1)Pavi S.
Great local bar and pizza. The beer was good, and the pizza was tasty. The ambience is sort of local/dive bar ish, but people of different ages go here.
(4)Thomas V.
Gourmet pizzas are fabulous. Appetizers are typical bar type. Soups are above average. Pastas and Italian dinners above most pizza joints.
(4)Kimba G.
I loved the pizza! I'm not a big pizza person but this one hit it for me. Loved it!
(4)Megan M.

Sigh.
(1)Joshua W.
Love the pizza here. My office eats here twice a week and we are never disappointed! The staff is very friendly and the food is always served quickly.
(5)Bethel N.
Craft beer selection is half decent. Pizza is amazing, and they deliver!! Kitchen is open late for those late night cravings. I love the sausage, mushroom & onion combo. The BBQ chicken is pretty good too.
(4)Dustin H.
(1)Jason H.
May very well be the best pizza in Frederick. Would recommend the visit.
(4)Bediggety73 S.
(1)Allison D.
(4)Amy N.
Good pizza (loved the whole wheat crust!); appallingly bad (slow, indifferent) service. Also, beware- the fried pickles are not chips or slices, they are literally battered whole pickles. Soggy and gross.
(2)Alexis G.
I wish I could review the food, but instead, I can only review the service--which was denied to us entirely. My fiancé and I were looking for pizza delivery but wanted something a little different and decided to give Il Forno a try now that they deliver. The "gourmet" toppings offered were a draw, but when I called to place an order, the girl on the phone informed me there was a sign in the store indicating they were not to deliver to my street. We are 1.6 miles away (well within their 7 mile limit), yet they refused to deliver to us. My neighborhood may not be upscale Baker Park, but I've lived here with pride for 14 years, own my own home, and am extremely insulted to be refused service. I consider it discrimination, and now I'll never step foot in that restaurant. So be warned. Yes, Il Forno has delivery now, but if you don't live in a predominantly white neighborhood, you might want to save yourself the embarrassment of calling to be refused service.
(1)Michael C.
(5)Ca D.
It's our favorite place to watch games and have a beer because it's a pretty laid back place. The Maryland crab soup is good. Our favorite is the shrimp Alfredo pizza. The service isn't that great but the pizza and atmosphere make up for it.
(3)Jill J.
Best pizza! No questions. Just try the pizza here. If you don't like it, you don't have to go back. But you will like it, and you will crave it!
(5)Lin C.
Sit outside and enjoy your pizza and beer al fresco
(5)Chris C.
(5)Andrew B.
(5)Dana Z.
(3)Chef A.
(4)Kenny S.
Il Forno does a better pizza than most places. Their sandwiches and appetizers are also great.
(4)V F.
(5)Logan M.
You can never go wrong with coming to Il Forno's. The pizza and food is great, it's cheap and the service has always been great. Definitely a go-to if I am looking to go someplace for dinner.
(4)Laylah G.
*Heart*
(5)Diana H.
(1)Brenda B.
(2)Chris M.
I suggest eating at the restaurant where you can enjoy the pizza as soon as it comes out of their brick oven. The mozzarella they use is awesome.
(4)Brandi K.
(5)Mary B.
(5)L A W.
Fantastic pizza, best in Frederick...the other food is good too! This is brick oven pizza, so it may have parts that are darker brown-this does not mean its burnt. The staff is really friendly also, love it here!!
(5)Sean S.
Best pizza in frederick in my opinion! Yums: + BBQ Chicken, Quazi-Veggie, Ala fiorentina Pizza + Birch beer- i dont know anywhere else that has it Letdowns: - Service can be slow - mozzarella sticks and fried pickles should be better - no delivery Pricing: Moderate Atmosphere: tables and a brick oven, plenty of tv's and a small bar scene Dress: very casual Service: hit or miss, but never rude Food: A for the pizza Parking: Ample and Free Wait: 15-20 min on weekend nights Overall Grade: A
(5)Marie L.
Love the bar. Love the pizza! Love how friendly the servers and bar tenders are!
(4)Michael F.
(4)Gb G.
Best pizza in Frederick!
(5)Erin M.
(5)Tim S.
(4)jose m.
(4)Karen B.
Incredibly good crust. Nice toppings. Not overful, not skimpy. Fast pick up service. For a newcomer the pick up window is hidden and they sort of look at you funny if you walk into the main part and ask to pick up a pizza. Inexpensive. Great as left overs, too!
(4)Amanda L.
Just your run of the mill pizza/pub type place but when we ever put the four cheese pizza in our mouths? HELLO. This pizza was absolutely amazing. We remarked on it all day. I look forward to heading back and trying another kind!
(4)Julaine N.
(4)Colin M.
Favorite pizza in Frederick by far. Really great variety with a ton of different combinations. Price is also very reasonable, usually just do takeout.
(5)Mike T.
(2)Jim P.
I love this place. Every time I go there I get excellent service from great people. I t really does not matter what you order it is all well prepared, hot and ample. I hate to post this because I don't want to wait in line the next time I go.
(4)Niki N.
(5)Alex T.
(2)Bertha C.
Excellent wood-fired pizza's and ice cold beers (draft & bottles). Nice bar with easy-to-view LCD TV's showing continuous sports.
(4)William M.
Very good appetizers and pizza. Nice service and a good environment. Dessert wasn't great but the rest was very good.
(4)Sara A.
So delicious! It was such a pleasant surprise. The pizza is good whether you want a regular pepperoni pizza or if you are like me and want olives, goat cheese and artichoke hearts. Delicious for any pallet!
(4)Veronica J.
(5)Steff C.
(4)Scott R.
Hmmm .... very unfortunate that I have to downgrade after tonight's takeout.
(3)Jack P.
(5)Lisa S.
(4)Sara K.
(4)Guy S.
I hadn't been here in years, but I stopped for lunch recently. The wood fired pizza was great and served surprisingly fast. They are also expanding so the place should turn out pretty nice.
(4)Amelia M.
(5)jc t.
I really enjoyed this place on the occasions that I went. The meatball sub is probably the best in the area (at least I have yet to find its equal). The pizza is good, the crab soup is tasty. I have yet to be disappointed, and thats amazing.
(4)John C.
Cheap, fast, outdoor seating, and the most perfect thin-crust pizza around. What more could you want? Try garlic, sausage, and ricotta for a real artery-clogging treat!
(5)S S.
Friendly service. Good steak sandwich. pizza was great, loved the crust, but it and salad were a bit too heavy on the cheese for my liking--next time will order order light cheese. Will come back for sure
(4)Ginny B.
Amazing pizza....definitely no Papa John's chain pizza here! You can taste the authentic homemade taste. They have a wide variety of toppings which all enhance the pizza. They also have a patio, which we've never eaten on, but would be lovely to enjoy lunch or dinner!
(5)Oj M.
Yum. Crust is thin, crispy and chewy all at the same time. You can get any combination of toppings. We always order more, so that we have leftovers.
(4)Meghan L.
let me start off by saying i am very, very picky about pizza. but i absolutely LOVE il forno. i grew up in NYC and when i eat at il forno i feel like i am transported back home. good, family pizza place, laid-back atmosphere, and the four cheese pizza is out of this world. i think they should open another branch on market street, they would make a killing, but actually the fact that it's in a strip mall sort of adds to its charm-- it is totally unpretentious and just does what it does really well.
(5)
