I now have been to Famous Dave's twice. Once for lunch with a group of teens as their chaperone, and once for a late afternoon bar visit between meetings. My needs and expectations were fulfilled on both visits. I don't give chain restaurants five stars as personal policy as the food lacked the originality that would lend itself to such a rating. Otherwise, a guest's reasonable expectations for a burger and ribs place would be met consistently. A particular high note is the exceptionally friendly service. The weekday afternoon bar-maid could give lessons to restaurant employees. She is the embodiment of service perfection.

This place is really hit or miss depending on the day. We use to order from here a lot, but then their ribs became inconsistent, so we stopped ordering. Pray you go on a good day.

Sad to say this place has Gone downhill. After I haven't been there in a while we decided to go and it was majorly disappointing. Food was cold and meat was dry..tough, the brisket! :( the corn muffins didn't come until we were done dinner and she only brought us one a piece ..which is fine but when we asked for more she said they only made the ones she gave us??? What???? My daughter (5) even said. Are you being silly? They are my favorite , may I have another? And she said no. What just happened?

No complaints. Great sauces. Using them for catering is always a hit, especially an outdoor barbeque event or pool party! If you get wings, opt for bone in and the buffalo sauce.

I went to this restaurant today (3/25/15) to use my coupon I received in my email for a free burger or sandwich just for signing up to receive email offers. I phoned my order in. When I walked in, I entered the restaurant using the to go entrance, located in the back of the restaurant. The young lady at the counter and the manager was very pleasant. My food was ready, and my burger smelled so good in the bag. I ordered the chargrilled cheeseburger with the famous fries, and it was soooooo good! I couldn't believe that this cheeseburger was that good!!! I will be eating here in the future.

Whatever techniques "Dave" used to win all those BBQ championships they talk about on The Food Network, he's clearly not employing them in the chain restaurants. Yes it's technically bbq, so it can't be ALL bad, but it is close. Meats are uninspired, sides are bland, atmosphere is generic. Bbq is supposed to be about loving the meat and the process, and this mass produced shadow of that tradition just comes up flat. In a town that is home to Black Hog BBQ, Famous Dave's is completely unnecessary. Take your money across town, and support the superior locally owned alternative.

This is a solid BBQ place here in MD. If you go before 5pm you can get the early bird special of either 2 or 3 meats and sides for much cheaper then normal price. The pulled pork: Uninspired, skip it. The chicken: Solid, but that is not why I came here. Brisket: Pretty damn good, smother it in sauce and its even better. Hot Link: My favorite!!! This thing is a monster and comes on a tiny piece of bread which cannot contain it. Love their sauces!!! Also, their corn bread is incredible!!! Good beer selection and always an interesting crowd. They have TV's at the bar for football also.

Decent, chain restaurant BBQ. I enjoy the fact that they have fried catfish fingers. I also LOVE the Georgia Mustard sauce. Service is average, prices decent.

The empty parking lot should have been the only red flag needed....had I stopped at the catfish fingers, this review would be completely different! Brisket-DAYS old! Spare ribs-DAYS old and concealed by a thick mush of BBQ sauce! If Dave only knew...this place should be closed reevaluated, and reopened. That's NOT bbq!!

Delicious food, decent prices, and friendly service! I would give 5 stars but it took about 25 minutes for our food to arrive at our table. I always order the St. Louis Style Ribs with potato salad and fries. My husband orders the Two Meat Combo - White meat chicken and pulled pork with baked beans, fries and corn on the cob. The Devil Spit sauce is my choice of sauce; my husband likes the Rich and Sassy sauce. Absolutely love the cornbread - sweet and warm!

Yum! Nachos appetizer is delicious- the baked beans put it over the top and keeps me coming back for more. Recently ordered the grilled pineapple. Wow, it was hot and sugary like a dessert. Now I'm craving those too! Service is always good and I never leave hungry:) I'm hungry just thinking about it!!

The best part about this place is the different sauces. This place is hit and miss, even more so for the sides. Basically this place is good for if you are in a pinch for some bbq food. The remodel about a year ago was a good choice, but there are other locals bbq joints that are way better.

I have eaten here a few times. But yesterday and a time before reminded me why I do not go here that often. First of all the management is ok. Some wait staff is good. But this review is not for them it's for the main player "THE FOOD". It's well below the expected standards of what you expect in BBQ. Ok call me a BBQ snob if you want but my BBQ taste have been developed over many years spent eating in the south, southwest, southeast, and mid-west. I have had shack BBQ that puts the master BBQ places to shame. I have eaten in the shrines of BBQ in KC, Memphis, NC & SC, and TX. So I know BBQ. This is what I call institutional BBQ, no soul. But what really hits a low is even with sub-par Q. It is not a reason to serve the food piping hot. Thus leading me to write this. Hold temp should be 165F and on multiple visits I could stick my finger in the center of a pile of protein and never feel it get hot enough to pull out a slightly red finger. Also a temp probe showed the temp to be well below 100F. All the hot sides were cold in the center. How can That happen? And the strange part was we were sitting right by the kitchen so time from service window to table was 20sec. So my recommendation is eat here if you want but don't accept cold food and watch out if you send it back cause the kitchen staff gets pissy and will NUKE it till its over cooked and screaming hot. Kind of their way of saying "NOT HOT EMOUGH FOR YOU, WELL TRY THIS OUT!". So be cautious.

great bbq , just a little pricy ,over all i have to say this is my favorite bbq in frederick ,although the food probably comes in second to a couple of other bbq places on their good days, while famous daves is is almost perfect every time

This evening, my family visited this restaurant, as we had done several times in the past. I'm not sure what happened tonight, but the service and food were both terrible. My collard greens had an odd, sweet taste to them, like the vinegar has turned, and my steak was very dry. My wife's brisket was mostly fat, the pulled pork tasted like a salt-lick, and her mashed potatoes looked like they were from a box and not enough water was added to it. When she tried to take a bite, the potatoes molded to themselves and the top was hard when she tapped them with the bottom of her fork. The manager was nice enough: offered a new meal, which my wife couldn't stomach, and comped the bad one. The waitress, on the other hand, did not apologize once, just asked if the manager talked to us. She also did not offer one refill to anyone at our table. . My four year old only received an initial one bc he loudly said '"refill please" as she ran past us to another table.. It was a true shame that we had this experience; we usually enjoy Famous Dave's and were initially so happy to know that one was in our neighborhood.

We used to enjoy going to Famous Dave's before the renovation but now, the tables and booths are crammed together so close that you can't move around or even fit into the space (and we're not overly large people). Also, when we were there last night (the last time we'll go), it seemed like they felt the need to put red pepper on everything. Even the grilled pineapple steaks had red pepper. I don't mind heat but I never expected this and it didn't add anything to the flavor. It was always pretty much chain food anyway but now it's even less appealing. The service was good but the rest of the experience has turned us off of Famous Daves Frederick forever.

You can find lots of places that have food better than this. It's nothing special at all. What's worse? The urinal in the men's room has a horrible design. I walked into the bathroom and noticed immediately that there were splatters all over the floor. I thought it was strange. Then I took my turn, and while peeing I immediately noticed that much of the pee was bouncing off the urinal and onto my ankles. So not only am I wiping my hands afterward, but I'm drying off my ankles!? This is horrendous. It is a complete disgrace to food service sanitation. I won't visit this restaurant again until they have fixed the bathroom. And even then, I can't see why I'd choose the food here over any other place in the world.

Great BBQ for two!! The BBQ for two platter is a lot of good for two people. Better take a pinch hitter to help you finish it off when you tap out! Service was great! Substituting items was easy. Beer selection was really good for a place like this.

Wow! As one can see in the picture, Famous Dave's certainly knows how to serve a real full rack (12 bones) of St. Louis spare ribs, with each bone is abundantly covered with delicious sweet smokey meat. I can tell that these ribs were cooked "low and slow" due to the pink hue (see attached picture) of smoking process. The meat was almost fall off the bone in texture, but had some snap to it. The sauce was sweet and tangy with a slight onion flavor. IMO, the best ribs I've had since eating at 'Fat Mats Rib Shack' in Atlanta, Georgia (which I consider the best BBQ ribs I've ever had), in 2009. The side of baked beans was also delicious. The bits of sausage and onion, combined in a tangy sauce, complimented the ribs very well. The sweet cornbread was outstanding. At $25, I felt I got my money's worth. IMO, this far surpasses that other BBQ place in downtown Frederick. The service was friendly and quick. The server even brought out a fresh glass of Pepsi before I was done with the first one. Famous Dave's is my home-base for spare ribs in Frederick. Seriously people, I've tried almost all of the BBQ places (including Black Hog), except Blues BBQ Co., in Frederick and none come close. I look forward to trying Blues, as I love BBQ!
Been going here since they opened. Delightful customer service. Fairly consistent. I love the BBQ sauce. The chicken salad is AWESOME! The biscuits are soooo good, nice and sweet and just dense enough. I wish they had one here in Baltimore!

first off, I have probably had this location cater to my workplace more times than I have actually stepped foot in the place. With that said, my last visit to this location, a few days ago was mediocre. It was not great, but it did not suck dingo either. To start, the restaurant was clean, and we were greeted promptly by our waitress. Not being very hungry, I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, which was cooked just fine but I did need more BBQ sauce on it. My fries were fie and no complaints there. ll, it all, I think it was a tad pricy for what I got, and that there are better tasting options out there in BBQ land. However this place is ok in a pinch-I'd still preferred them catered to dine-in.

30 July 2012 1200 Accessibility: Easy off W Patrick and is in the parking lot of a shopping center. plenty of parking!! Easy to get in and out. 3 Stars Atmosphere: Famous Dave's is if you have not been there is a "busy " place, lots of TVs, lots of things to see on the wall. Will not surprise you. Great for big get togethers. Overall for me.... "Average Dave's". 3 Stars Customer Service: Great customer service! I went with lunch and co-workers. This is a great place for lunch if you like BBQ. Waiter was great, friendly and with frequent fill ups. The best part of the visit for me was the staff!!! very attentive!!! Quick to respond to whatever we needed. 5 Stars. Menu: Lots of BBQ types! So whatever you are looking for if iris not spicy to your liking they have a lot of sauces at the table for you to sample. Plus other things for non-BBQ folks. 5 Stars. I had the Soup and Salad. I love chile and the Cesar salad. The Cesar Salad is while a typical Ceasar salad, this was great! Cold plates, cold food and the best croutons ever!!!!! Plenty of it for lunch menu! 5 Stars. I had the Chile for Soup. And really after three bites had to stop. it was just too spicy hot for me and I like it spicy. Looks someone made this a little too Warm!!! So for the Soup 3. Stars. They give you some great Cheese to add. The corn Muffins are truly AMAZING! I love these things!!! This is for me what Famous Dave's is about!!! 5 Stars. Would I come back to this restaurant? Sure. But only with a group from. Work or if family wanted to. Not my favorite BBQ. but it is ok for groups and large gathering.

Lunch was served in two minutes. So this tells me they make up dishes in advance. I had Georgia Pork, brisket, beans, and cole slaw. The Georgia Pork is not a pulled pork, but mostly bite-size chunks. There was some "bark" and it was OK. The brisket was very good...not too dry. There are not too many places that offer beef brisket. Cole Slaw was crunchy and fresh. The beans also were seasoned and full of extras (both Cole Slaw and Beans are recommended). Would return if in the area because the other places nearby are not rated very well and this place was busy.

Famous Dave's is a 3 star chain BBQ joint. Nothing special but ok in a pinch if you're in the area wanting some cue. Had the St Louis ribs and pulled pork combo with slaw. Each order comes with a mushy, overcooked half ear of corn as well. The meats were pretty good with lots of meat on the ribs and good bark on the pork though it was a bit dry. They have about 6 different sauces and the plate came with the meats already sauced. I would advise asking for no sauce so you can add your own in case, like I experienced, the sauce they choose for that particular meat is not you favorite.
So...the sauces are great here. And if I were rating just on sauce this would be a 4 star review, probably. But, here's the thing, I ordered the ribs. The St Lois ribs were just not nearly tender enough. They tasted as if they had boiled them for an hour and maybe put them on a grill for a half hour or so. Good ribs need many hours in a smoker to be beautiful and these just didn't make it. I new something was up when I saw chopped pork on the menu, not pulled pork...I wouldn't come back, but I wouldn't go hungry instead of eating here.

For lunch, the specials are a good bang for the buck. I'm no BBQ expert, but what I've had is always consistent and very flavorful. The pitt beef sandwiches and spare ribs are among my favorites. The burgers are actually very good as well (try the Texas Manhandler or Devil's Burger!). All of the sides that I've experienced are refreshingly unique - even the potato wedges have a nice blend of zesty spices. The portions are adequate considering the quality. Service can be a little slow when busy, but the place really packs them in (so to be somewhat expected). At lunch we're usually in/out within 40-50minutes. Best bet is to arrive 11:15-11:30 to beat the rush. Definitely one that I return to when I'm craving quick, consistent BBQ!

Two out of three meals were inedible. The brisket was so salty you could deice a runway with it. Even the hamburger we ordered was on the salty side, but at least we could eat it. No problems with the wait staff or facilities. Maybe it was just a one time bad experience, but we're not going back. You've been warned!

We brought in carry out from here today for a team lunch: 2 kinds of ribs, 2 kinds of wings, pulled pork, beans, potato salad, cole slaw, some big fat brownies, the whole deal. Poor Marsha - not liking wings, and avoiding red/pink meat in general - really didn't have much to go on save for a few celery sticks with blue cheese dip. The rest of us, though, totally feasted. What a wonderful feast it was - dripping off our beards, all over our shirts, under our fingernails, it was a fine mess. A very tasty fine mess. Maybe not terribly unique; not as good as the barbecue place in SF Bay Area we recently tried. Then again, for a chain, Dave's was perfectly respectable. To be fair, we'll let Marsha pick the cuisine next time. And I haven't seen the bill yet so I'm not sure just how expensive (or not) it was. But odds are, we'll do office carryout from here again.

I have lunched here twice in two months and have to say when it comes to great barbecue this place is the best in the tri-state area. The different meats that I have tried are so tender that they melt in your mouth and have the perfect amount of smoke and sauce as not to take away from the natural flavors of them. On both occasions I was with friends so we were all able to share the different offerings. I highly suggest getting the ultimate nachos as an appetizer topped with the brisket (you won't be sorry). The draft beer is served ice cold, a perfect accompaniment to the feast. The service is friendly and fast. These servers are professional and very attentive. By the way, A comment to Scott R. post. Smoked meats are pink inside. This has nothing to do with the degree of doneness. The smoking of meats is a much different cooking chemistry then using direct heat like on your charcoal or gas grill at home. It's actually a cooler heat where the smoke is actually what cooks the meats therefore leaving it a light pink color when cut into. It takes hours to slowly smoke the meats until done. I do it myself but it took years to convince my wife that the poultry, pork, etc was actually safe to eat and in fact cooked through safely and properly. You might want to explain this to Marsha. If the smoked meat looked well done throughout I doubt if even a dog would eat it. You might as well cook up some shoe leather.

This place used to cater our office parties. The selection of food was pitiful, (corn, beef, napkins) and the sauce was basically catsup, brown sugar, and hot sauce. The meat was adequate. The problem was that my work was full of professional bar-b-q guys who grilled at home all the time and let me tell ya', NO COMPARISON. Save your money and grill your own bar-b-q. You'll probably do a better job.

(2)Audrey W.
No complaints. Great sauces. Using them for catering is always a hit, especially an outdoor barbeque event or pool party! If you get wings, opt for bone in and the buffalo sauce.

Gross! Stopped in for an early lunch. Only one table was occupied in the restaurant but I was given a table right by the door. Asked the server about the chopped pork sandwich and decided to order it. Chopped fat on a bun! Go elsewhere!
(1)Keisha C.

(2)Roy S.
(4)Deidre C.
Decent, chain restaurant BBQ. I enjoy the fact that they have fried catfish fingers. I also LOVE the Georgia Mustard sauce. Service is average, prices decent.
(3)Brian C.
(1)Angie J.
(4)Maranda B.
(5)Wang C.
The best part about this place is the different sauces. This place is hit and miss, even more so for the sides. Basically this place is good for if you are in a pinch for some bbq food. The remodel about a year ago was a good choice, but there are other locals bbq joints that are way better.
(2)S C.
Great place !!!! My son loves the chicken strips/fries and loves that Oreos come with his meal. Very kid friendly. Great barbecue and excellent rotisserie (country roasted) chicken !

(1)Lin C.
Good and fast for lunch. Have tried just about every lunch special on the menu now and never disappointed. The homemade chips are a great starter to test out the sauces. Attentive staff.
(3)Michael R.

This place used to be me and my fiancé's favorite spot...not anymore! The almost empty parking lot had me thinking when we pulled in, but it was 8:00 on a Thursday so I just brushed it off and we went inside. No one at the front " desk" area to sit you when we walked in, the bartender came around the corner and apologize, said the girl just ran to the bathroom. *second red flag going off in my head* he sat us, and told us a server would b right out. Now useally as soon as my ass hits the seat I am quickly looking for the drink section because they used to come over as soon as you sat down and I never had a chance to look at the drink menu, this time...I got to look over the whole thing....TWICE!! Finally this girl came over, who honestly didn't even look like she worked there and asked us what we wanted to drink, and then walked away after we told her, my fiancée was going to order a appetizer but I guess never mind now... She came back over with the drinks, almost slammed them down on the table and walked away, when I saw her walk by again I stopped her and told her we would like to order a appetizer and she said " that's fine" and pulled out her little notebook....ummm?? Damn stright that's fine, we R at a restaurant, I'm not asking permission for somthing I'm tell you we would like to order something to eat. We ordered are appetizer & food because we didn't know A-what one was going to come first and B-if we would even see R waitress again. I timed it, 45 minutes later, are drinks R both gone and are food still isn't there. And then as soon as I was asking if he wanted to leave because this is getting REDICULIOUS and he was getting mad, are food came, she dropped it off, and WALKED AWAY.....my fiancé's burger was dry, and didn't have any of the stuff on it he asked for. My catfish was cold in the middle but I ate around it, and the appetizer we ordered came out after are food. I could seriously go on and on about how the girl gave us an attitude when I asked if I could have another drink, ect, but it's not worth it and it's making me mad all over again just thinking about it, if you don't like your job, then quit. Don't take it out of your customers! Anywho, I herd they where under new management so that's probably why, OHH and the famous daves sauces that are useally on the table wernt there, when we asked for them, she said she can only bring out 1 and asked what one we wanted. me and him won't be returning unless something dramatically changed.

Been going here since they opened. Delightful customer service. Fairly consistent. I love the BBQ sauce. The chicken salad is AWESOME! The biscuits are soooo good, nice and sweet and just dense enough. I wish they had one here in Baltimore!
(5)Chef A.
first off, I have probably had this location cater to my workplace more times than I have actually stepped foot in the place.
(3)Toby F.
Upside-down trash can lid is the way to go!! Get the brisket, ribs & pulled pork. Don't get the baked apples as a side. If you like BBQ...this is the place!! Ask to have Kelly O. as your server...she rocks!!

(3)Jason D.
Devil spit burger is fantastic. Waitresses are super friendly. They are now using local sweet corn.
(4)PitBull D.

This is only my second time in 8 1/2 years in Frederick that I've gone to the Frederick Famous Dave's. The first trip several years ago was so bland and unmemorable that it didn't occur to me to ever return and I just chalked it up that Frederick was not a BBQ town, but since then, I've gone to the Gaithersburg location for lunch and been impressed with it. I guess it has been 2 or 3 years, but in my last trip to the Gaithersburg location, they offered lunch specials and the food and value seemed great. They also brought out starters at no charge (corn bread and I forget what else). Based on this, when I was looking for a place to meet a friend for lunch in the area, I thought to give the Frederick location a second try. I don't know if this is a corporate change or what, but there was no lunch menu. I ordered the "burnt ends" sandwich for $11, which while tasty, was quite small. My friend was still hungry after his salad and burger as well. They brought out a TINY plate of possibly homemade but cold potato chips to tide us over as we waited for the food (which came out in a reasonable amount of time). The sandwich came with one side (very small dish of beans, which were good) plus "a side of hellfire pickles"- while the pickles were fine, there were three bread and butter pickle slices as a side. Is this even worth mentioning? I would hope that if I asked for pickles, they would just bring out a lot more than three tiny chips of them at no charge.. What's more , if I wanted cole slaw on the sandwich, which is pretty much standard at most BBQ places these days, it would have been a dollar extra. By comparison, in my last visit to Gaithersburg (which obviously set my expectation), it was $8-9 for a lunch entrée (either a sandwich or a 2-meat platter) with two sides. In Frederick, I left hungry and feeling ripped off. The food was fine, but not enough to eat and I can't warrant more than two stars based on the value. There were only two other tables occupied during the noon hour as well, so people obviously know this isn't the primo lunch spot. Two other things: one good, one bad. The service was perfectly fine and efficient, but the booth seating was noticeably uncomfortable. My back was sore after sitting there for 45 minutes or however long it was. For better Frederick BBQ, visit the Blues BBQ truck off of 355.

I have lunched here twice in two months and have to say when it comes to great barbecue this place is the best in the tri-state area.

(2)Angie J.

(4)Deidre C.
Decent, chain restaurant BBQ. I enjoy the fact that they have fried catfish fingers. I also LOVE the Georgia Mustard sauce. Service is average, prices decent.
(3)Lin C.
Good and fast for lunch. Have tried just about every lunch special on the menu now and never disappointed. The homemade chips are a great starter to test out the sauces. Attentive staff.
(3)Michael R.
Great BBQ for two!! The BBQ for two platter is a lot of good for two people. Better take a pinch hitter to help you finish it off when you tap out! Service was great! Substituting items was easy. Beer selection was really good for a place like this.
(4)Brian C.

Great place !!!! My son loves the chicken strips/fries and loves that Oreos come with his meal. Very kid friendly. Great barbecue and excellent rotisserie (country roasted) chicken !

This place is really hit or miss depending on the day. We use to order from here a lot, but then their ribs became inconsistent, so we stopped ordering. Pray you go on a good day.
(2)Jordan N.
(2)Audrey W.
No complaints. Great sauces. Using them for catering is always a hit, especially an outdoor barbeque event or pool party! If you get wings, opt for bone in and the buffalo sauce.
(4)Huntting B.

Gross! Stopped in for an early lunch. Only one table was occupied in the restaurant but I was given a table right by the door. Asked the server about the chopped pork sandwich and decided to order it. Chopped fat on a bun! Go elsewhere!

Anywho, I herd they where under new management so that's probably why, OHH and the famous daves sauces that are useally on the table wernt there, when we asked for them, she said she can only bring out 1 and asked what one we wanted. me and him won't be returning unless something dramatically changed.

first off, I have probably had this location cater to my workplace more times than I have actually stepped foot in the place.

Upside-down trash can lid is the way to go!! Get the brisket, ribs & pulled pork. Don't get the baked apples as a side. If you like BBQ...this is the place!! Ask to have Kelly O. as your server...she rocks!!

Devil spit burger is fantastic. Waitresses are super friendly. They are now using local sweet corn.

Been going here since they opened. Delightful customer service. Fairly consistent. I love the BBQ sauce. The chicken salad is AWESOME! The biscuits are soooo good, nice and sweet and just dense enough. I wish they had one here in Baltimore!

Just went to the reopened unit in Frederick. food still outstanding and the waitress was great! Love the face that they didn't do tons inside structurally.
(3)Paul O.
Two out of three meals were inedible. The brisket was so salty you could deice a runway with it. Even the hamburger we ordered was on the salty side, but at least we could eat it. No problems with the wait staff or facilities. Maybe it was just a one time bad experience, but we're not going back. You've been warned!
(1)Adam P.
great bbq , just a little pricy ,over all i have to say this is my favorite bbq in frederick ,although the food probably comes in second to a couple of other bbq places on their good days, while famous daves is is almost perfect every time
