On a Downtown Frederick shopping expedition, my sister and I decided to stop in for some breakfast. Ordering was overwhelming. The place was packed and the menus are difficult to read, especially with people cramming in around you. But given the busyness, I was expecting some delicious eats. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel with an overpriced hot tea latte. She ordered an egg and cheese bagel with home fries. Our bill came to $20.42, a little steep for a quick eat (especially given the nearby options). When our food arrived, I was underwhelmed. From the price to being cramped inside the tiny ordering/dining areas, it just didn't lice up to it's reputation. The sandwiches were pretty decent. The home-fries were mushy. The tea latte wasn't anything magical, but was good. The bagels by themselves were best. I'd probably stop in again for a bagel, but overall I was not impressed.

Top notch breakfast in downtown Frederick, I chose the Greek omelet with home fries and toast. What I got was a very tasty omelet decently loaded with stuff and a good portion of diced and grilled potatoes. Very yummy and good service. Coffee was great too. Lots of regulars popping in and out of this place while I enjoyed my breakfast. And if people keep coming back, there's a reason for that. It's good!

This is literally a must every time I go to Frederick, I love the food and the coffee! I'd definitely spend $10+ here rather than at a Starbucks Definitely try a grilled muffin! The atmosphere is great and decked out in Steelers stuff besides the one Ravens bird in the front window.

One of my absolutely favorite places in Frederick. Beans and Bagels definitely has the best bagels in Frederick. The toppings are on both sides of the bagel!!! And of course the price is always right. The muffins and the macaroni salad are also huge unexpected wins. I just can't say enough good things about this place. I wish there was a place that had bagels like this in Baltimore!

While vacationing in the area we decided to give this place a try. We found it a bit confusing as there are tables but you have to order at the counter first. Omelets were okay but small for the price with home fries costing extra (2.39).Coffee was decent but the cream (half & half I think) had run out & by the time I was able to ask them to refill my coffee had cooled. We all said we wished we had tried another place with waitress service. My 2 boys left a little hungry & had to hit up the bakery on the walk home.

Will not return. Cappuccino tasted pretty bad. Greek omelet was fine. Side salad was showered in diced red onion.

Thought it was really good food - Definitely more bagel than beans! Atmosphere was pleasant for sure - slightly divey - but for a quick bite (Really good Lox on Egg everything bagel) and ice coffee had good strong flavor. We sat outside and there were radio-active sized bees - not the places fault at all. Food was good but closed at 3:00pm (from what I recall) on the Sunday we were there. Definitely worth stopping by. We met the owners, extremely friendly and nice!

It has "beans" right in the name--so, at the very least, they have decent coffee, right? Uh, no. It's tepid, underextracted dreck. I'm a certified coffee addict, and I pass this place on my way to work every morning--and keep walking to the next coffee shop. That should tell you all you need to know. The bagels aren't bad, I suppose. The rest of the food ranges from average to...kind of gross. I'm no snob--I can absolutely enjoy some simple, cheap, unpretentious food, as long as it's good. But B&B's food isn't good. And it's not even cheap--for about the same price, several other eateries on the same block will give you much better food. The place is junky, bordering on dirty. The vinyl booths are torn and duct-taped; they have mismatched tables and chairs (including some from Quizno's, with the "Q" logo built into the back); there are tacky Steelers knickknacks everywhere; the artwork on the wall is crooked. The place needs a top-to-bottom makeover. Inexplicably, though, they seem to do decent business. I guess there's no accounting for taste.

Stopped in for some iced tea this afternoon. Pleasantly surprised that it was strong and flavorful. The vibe is a little less coffee shop and a little more deli, but I'd recommend the tea.

It was good. Very good, however, while it wasn't pricey, it also wasn't cheap. I'd say average prices for downtown Frederick, but far enough above average nonetheless. If you eat outside, you'll be pelted hard with acorns falling from a very old, tall tree in need of pruning. I would never park my car on that particular part of the street. I watched cars being actively dented by the falling acorns. The service was pretty good and pretty prompt. We decided we'll go back, but we'll just sit inside and park on a different part of the street.

I come here for the lox. They may not be over the top friendly, but I don't think they mean to be rude. I get a very New York vibe when I go in. My lox is always delicious, and they have many choices for bagels. I like a fried egg on my lox and they always add that on for me. I would much rather come here than go to crab apples. Talk about RUDE!
(4)Claire C.
I've been here multiple times and have been disappointed each time. Their breakfast sandwiches barely have any meat on them. The bagels always taste dry (almost stale). There are so many great breakfast places in Frederick--don't waste your time here.
(1)Carrie L.
The man who was working the register was extremely rude, my bacon, egg&cheese had one small piece of bacon on it (as pictured) The nicest thing I can say is the coffee was hot. Have no desire to come back here.

I don't know why this place has only three stars. These people don't know what they're talking about. This place reminds of my grandmother's luncheonette in Passaic, NJ. It also reminds me of the bodegas and luncheonettes in NYC. Ordered a breakfast sandwich and the egg was actually fried.. you know.. with crispy edges. No soft yellow disc here ladies and gentlemen. Coffee was decent. They offer lattes and loo las if that's what you want. If you're complaining about how your soy venti triple expresso trifecta was over priced, take your ass to Starbucks. For the people who want decent breakfast and a cup of coffee from hard working locals, this is your place.
(5)Lauren K.
Nothing special... We stopped by for a quick breakfast before going to the Civil war medicine museum. Bagels were average. My husband didn't like his breakfast sandwich. Service was friendly.

Boo to not having prices and then ripping people off. How does a small Steamed Milk with Almond cost around $3.50. My small coffee was decent and around $1.50ish but their price on a Small Steamed Milk seems very high in regards to everyone else. I even questioned them about if they charged me correctly on the steamed milk. They have one with espresso that seems reasonable to charge that much. The barista didn't seem too interested in us or our questioning of the prices. I don't understand how a place feels comfortable not writing prices down because that makes me not want to trust them. Customer Service should be held to higher a standard. I rarely give one star but I felt frustrated leaving this place enough to give one star. My coffee was so-so and I think Nola across the street would get my patronage if I make it back down to Frederick.

Stopped in for breakfast on the way to an appointment. Was looking for a cafe latte and some food. They have an expansive menu which is great. Its tough to get it all in though in time to order. I got a croissant with butter and jelly and a vanilla latte. Latte was so so for the price, croissant was excellent but they only have grape jelly apparently because I didnt get a choice. They toasted the croissant and went heavy on the butter so it was a little messy but thats ok. Staff was friendly but not as helpful as I had hoped. Overheard while waiting for my croissant, the man that helped me was not feeling well so maybe that was it. The one star off is for not being given the choice of jelly (I hate grape) and for the latte being "ok" despite being just as expensive as dublin roasters who has the best coffee and espresso IMO.
(4)Mike M.
You would think a place with "bagel" in the name would make their own fresh bagels. Not the case here, these are clearly store-bought nasty bagels. I couldn't even finish mine it was so bad. I haven't had any of the other food but some of it looked decent on other people's plates.
(2)Zach S.
A decent little mom and pop place, literally operated by a family. The dad runs the register, daughter and son are baristas, the mom is the chef. Very friendly. Great coffee. I've also had their bagel sandwiches a few times. I suppose those were pretty good, too.
(4)Larry H.
Quick, delicious and fairly priced. That speaks volumes.
(4)Michelle A.
Solid egg salad sandwich. A good variety of sandwiches, and coffee drinks overall. Not the fastest place in town. We were there this morning around 11am, with only 3 people in line in front of us, and the wait was 15 mins.
(3)Kirk A.
The outside is inviting. Fits right in with the historic part of the city. The inside is simple and the menu is written on a white board with marker. I liked that it seems to be more a place for locals than tourists like me passing through. The lady in front of me knew the cashier and in front of the register was a sign-up sheet for fantasy football drafts. Outside where I sat the lady giving parking tickets made sure the car didn't belong to anyone from Bagel and Beans before issuing a ticket. Just a quaint bagel and coffee shop tucked inside of a large small town.
(4)Jennie S.
No complaints. It was rainy outside, so my friend and I ducked in for bagels. They were closing up shop, but they were nice enough to toast and schmear some bagels for us. Very friendly. Only complaint was the styrofoam cups :( I got a pumpernickel bagel and cream cheese. It was fine.

As a loyal New Jersey native, I would like to think that I have a fair idea of what a good bagel tastes like. I have recently moved to Frederick from Washington, DC and while there, had trouble finding many places who really "did it right." Moving here, I did not have much hope - but was proven *very* wrong with this fantastic little place. I had a great egg & bacon sandwich on an everything bagel - and all was great. To add to it, it had a really "local" feel, friendly staff, a huge menu, and great prices. Will make this place a staple!
(4)Jennifer R.
The chicken salad wrap was very delicious. There is plenty of seating but it looks deceiving as you walk in since it's a few tables and then a counter to place your order. I would come here again.
(3)James M.
My iced caramel mocha latte had more than an inch of syrup on the bottom, even after I had vigorously stirred it. I have quite a sweet tooth, but this sickeningly sweet sludge was undrinkable.

Also not sure how this place has only 3 stars... The owner is the nicest man I've ever met. The food is solid. It's a throwback type of place with a really homey small town environment which is nice to have in DTF. I get the italian sausage sandwich usually. They have goofy quiznos chairs in the dining area and trivia cards and little fun homey feels like that. The food is good, their staff is super nice every time. Not a complaint to be said. Oh and the prices are cheap.
(5)Katie S.
Have been here twice for a quick, inexpensive bite. I always get the everything bagel and a fried egg. It's yummy and proves to be one of the best bagels around. The guy who runs the shop is strange and off-putting though. I suggest go in, order quick, and leave. Some people just aren't meant to socialize.
(3)Michael C.
Average food at best and really poor service. Not air conditioned and the back room is very hot and uncomfortable. Took forever for them to bring the food out and it was obviously out of sequence (people who ordered after us got their food first). Pass on this one.
(1)Emily B.
Friendly staff and yummy food. Great place to eat and get some work done. Reasonable prices... Awesome lunch specials!
(4)Brigette K.
Great sandwiches and service! Love the chicken salad. it is a big expensive, but it is worth it. It is nice to support a business where the people and staff are nice and the food is good.
(4)Grace M.
This was a lovely little coffee shop that my grandma stopped in for lunch at when we were traveling. The vegetarian hummus sandwich is vegan on any bagel except for the egg bagel(obviously, lol). The prices are also wonderful!
(4)Kapo L.
Nice atmosphere and friendly service despite other reviews. They have a good selection of bagels and spreads, along with other sandwiches. Also, a hefty list of coffee drinks, i ordered a specialty coffee drink and it was definitely too sweet for my liking.
(3)Matt W.
While I can't say much for the Espresso - had my normal Americano. It was a bit watered down, didn't have much flavor, and was missing the strong coffee smell that I love so much. Also, it came in a Styrofoam like cup, which just tells me the place needs to get with the times a bit and switch to something easily biodegradable and/or recyclable. What was amazing was the Bacon Scallion and Horseradish cream cheese on a Salt Bagel. Let me just say that again - Bacon Scallion and Horseradish cream cheese. That alone is worth the trip!

An awful experience that really made us think less of Frederick to put up with such an establishment. First of all the prices are not listed. I ordered a small iced cafe new Orleans and it was literally about half a cup of liquid for over $4. It tasted like a child had made it and the syrups and chocolate were just laying at the bottom of the cup-yuck. The customer service left much to be desired...I felt like I was an inconvenience (how dare I ask what the cookie flavors are). To make up for the gross coffee drink I got a price of pie that was equally over priced and not worth 1 calorie. $10 later I threw it all in the trash and walked out. Next time will.try Frederick coffee co. And will be sure to let all my Washingtonian friends who know good coffee to avoid this fail of a business.

They have the best salt bagels that I've ever tasted in the area. It was great to sit outside on a nice day. I didn't notice anything weird about the owner/waitstaff, but maybe it was just me. FYI, Yelp has incorrect hours posted. It's only open until 3 P.M. on Sundays.
(4)Allison D.
I really like this place. If I didn't start my hellacious commute at 6:30 I would probably be down here drinking coffee and reading the paper every morning. It just has such a nice, friendly, comfortable vibe. We come down here for breakfast every once in a while on the weekend. Usually I get a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter, but this morning I had a Western omelette with rye toast. The food is decent; not the greatest, but a lady wearing what could pass as pajamas cooks it up in the back and brings it out to the table. It kind of makes me feel like I'm hanging out at a friend's house and their Mom is cooking us breakfast. I keep meaning to go down for lunch sometime, but I honestly just kind of forget that it's there.

On a Sunday morning, Beans and Bagels is only one of a couple places open early (8am) for breakfast in downtown Frederick, MD. When we entered the restaurant at 9am, there was already a line from the counter up to the entry doorway. We were happy to see a good selection of breakfast dishes ranging from omelettes to egg platters to bagel / sandwich spreads. Prices were pretty good. I had the Vinnie (two eggs on sausage with cheese), and I added home fries to it. Yum. The Cafe Caramel was excellent as well. Staff was friendly as well. I'd highly recommend this place for an early breakfast.

I used to love this place for brunch-like bagel and coffee meals. My last visit left a bad taste in my mouth however, and I haven't been back since. Over Christmas, my uncles came down from the NYC big city to downtown Frederick, shopping in the antique and unique decor shops for their newly acquired cabin. My uncle asked for one of their roasts as an espresso. The cashier corrected him and said that they only had espresso beans for espresso, and my uncle tried to explain that any beans can be used for espresso (its a coffee brewing method, not a type of bean), but asked what roast the "espresso beans" were (not wanting trouble). The cashier got a bit of an attitude and very patronizingly started trying to explain the finer points of coffee to my uncle (who was only stopping into this place because he's such a coffee caffeine addict that withdrawal was becoming a legitimate issue). My uncle took a deep breath and ignored the cashier's attitude, ordering a latte instead. As we left, both my mom and I were mortified at this man's bizarre attitude attack. Beans and bagels has always been good, and I personally love their lattes, but there is better coffee to be had in Frederick (Coffee Co., that pretzel place on Market St.) and better breakfast food (Fractured Prune), though perhaps not better bagels. Thus, although I have not been back to Beans and Bagels in some time, I have a feeling I will eventually be back to reconcile with them.

Cute cute cute place in downtown Frederick. You can sit and eat or order to go. Steeler fans will certainly feel welcome. Happy I found this place for good coffee & beagles and will be back for a proper sit-down meal.
(4)Luisita S.
Best bagels. Authentic NY style. Coffee is awful. Weak like dishwater and the beans are not high quality. I guess you could get a bagel then go to Starbucks for coffee.
(2)Bryan O.
Stopped in for a Sunday brunch on our first visit. After listening to moronic drivel about the steelers from the wait staff for 10 minutes without being acknowledged as customers, we decided to just leave. Beans and bagels loss, Nola's gain.
(1)Greg S.
Very good and friendly place. Will definitely return.
(5)Dennis H.
Best bagels in Frederick. The staff is friendly.
(4)Joe W.
A coffee shop that you can get breakfast and lunch at. The coffee is good (not great, but not bad); same goes for the bagels. The prices are really reasonable and the food is decent. Couple that with the friendly staff and a few outdoor tables and you have a winner.
(4)Meghan L.
Hmm. Went to this place because Market St. Bagel was closed. While the interior is charming in a random sort of way, I was definitely not that impressed by the bagels. The cream cheese tasted like it was weeks old. Market St.'s bagels are soo much better. Maybe I caught the place on an off day, but probably won't be back.
