Greek Cuisine
Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.
Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.
For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.

I'm not sure if there's been any business changes since the times of past negative reviewers, but I popped into this place and found myself pleasantly surprised. Very clean, an attentive wait staff, and very good food. There was nobody else in the restaurant when I dined in around 4 PM, so maybe its not the most popular place, but I'd definitely come back. I ordered a chicken shawarma and three small appetizers, all were great. My only real criticism was the price; my meal was reasonable, but the appetizers were what put me off. I ended up spending about 30 bucks for myself ( meal, appetizers, and one soda) so it's definitely not the cheapest place around. But it's hard to find good Mediterranean food, so I guess it's a compromise. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more things on the menu, as it was a very positive experience overall.

My gaming group ordered from here a couple of months ago and was unimpressed. I decided to give it another whirl tonight, because I really felt like Greek food, but it was even worse. I am being generous by giving it two stars, it probably deserves more like 1.5. The food was mediocre, the delivery was slooooow and problem-ridden, and the price was inappropriately high given the poor food and service. Delivery: The whole process from initial call to delivery took an hour and 25 minutes, not 45 minutes as quoted, and involved two mistakes on their part--first, someone called back well after the order was placed and said they were out of T-bone, and second, the driver called an hour and 20 minutes after the order was placed (and well after the "three or four minutes" the manager quoted when we called after an hour asking where our food was) and said he could not find the place and needed directions. Food: The gyro was decent. Meat could have been juicier, but once you include the tzatziki sauce and tomatoes, it is acceptably moist. Overall it was very much your standard-issue gyro. If you are in a gyro mood, it will do the trick. Everything else was some level of mediocre or downright bad. The roast chicken is described on the menu as being "marinated" before roasting, but there was no evidence of the slightest bit of marinade flavor. The meat was overcooked, tough, and dry. The only discernable flavor was the burnt charry taste of the skin. I recall that the chicken was not very good when we ordered before, and I hadn't initially ordered it this time, only after the T-bone was cancelled. So, I don't think this is a fluke. The fries were mushy. The rice was cooked well, not over or undercooked, but again, had absolutely no seasonings--no herbs, no butter, not even salt. The tiny Greek salads which accompanied the main dishes were sad. The dressing had what appeared to be tons of herbs in it, but yet again, no actual flavor. The oil was clearly not olive oil but probably the cheapest oil they could find. There was a single olive in each salad. Whomever prepared these was very parsimonious with the more expensive ingredients like feta and olives, especially considering the not-low prices Athens charges. The cheesecake had an oddly fluffy texture and, bizarrely, a faint flavor of almonds. It was also tiny, probably an inch and a half on the thick end, for $3.50. The total came to $33.something after tax and before tip. Very bad value. Bordering on rip-off territory. A good delivery restaurant would comp something or give a coupon for arriving 40 minutes after the quoted delivery time. No such luck here. No apology from the manager. A sort-of apology from the deliver driver, who mumbled that I could not tip him if I wanted since he was late. :-(

Best salmon kabob around... Owner Sam is super friendly along with the entire staff. I am no longer in Frederick, but will continue to make the trip. Unless they feel like making a delivery to Leesburg:)

Had the gyro and white pizza both were amazing. I expected the gyro to be good but the pizza was over the top delicious. This is now one of my new favorite Frederick restaurant's.

I am a regular. Having had their food for the past five years. I love the service, yes there are issues with new people taking orders but nothing that compares to the quality of the food.

We were craving Mediterranean food one night and found this reasonably-priced restaurant for carry-out. We've tried a few different things and it's all been great. My boyfriend loves their gyros and their tzatziki sauce is excellent. I also like that they have a lot of vegetarian options on their menu. We have been to a few Greek places in Frederick and so far this is our favorite.

Average food but disgusting dirty restaurant. We both got the gyro platter. The salad was watered down. The meat was tasteless but the pita bread was good. House fries were okay but nothing special. This restaurant is DIRTY. The white walls are blackened with dirt and grease. The women's restroom is HORRENDOUS. No kidding. There is poop on the walls. And you smell it as you come in. And there is a sign on the wall instructing you not to put toilet paper in the toilet. That's right. You wipe your business and THROW THE TOILET PAPER in an overflowing garbage can filled with used toilet paper. This is clearly unhygienic. I can only imagine what their kitchen looks like.

Though I appreciate a mom and pop pizza place--this was barely edible. The crust--soggy. The cheese--tasted processed and chemically. The sauce--eh. The greek salad was a melange of mild dressing and woody pink tomatoes. There was simply no love involved in the preparation nor execution of either. Bummer. My search for good delivery pizza in frederick goes on.

Honestly, I do not even know where to start with this review. From the painful process ordering the food to the realization it was completely wrong, Athens Greek Restaurant completely struck out with us. I heard they had good pizza, and food in general, so we decided to give them a try. We should have just hung up the phone and tried somewhere else about a minute into the call. Between the complete ignorance of the menu and verbally sounding out the things she was apparently writing for 4-5 minutes, it was so incredibly painful. I think we were put on hold 4 times. My husband put it on speaker for everyone to hear and it was hard to tell whether to laugh or not. It was incredible. Somehow, 9 minutes and 50 seconds later, the order was placed. We decided she was probably new and to try to cut her some slack. Surprise! Our pizza was wrong. Not only was it the wrong kind, the changes we requested were completely backwards. Apparently, "no olives on half" means "only olives on half". At first we thought that was the only issue, decided to deal with it but discovered the rest when we got home. She also tried to charge us double for the chicken fingers and fries but luckily the owner or manager stepped in to correct her. Still, I tried to push through and just enjoy the pizza we had worked so hard to get but, of course, it was only mediocre and cold (even though we arrived 5 minutes early and were turned away since it "wasn't ready"). What a mess. Never again.

I enjoyed every bite, and left satisfied.service was one of the best I've had sense moving to this town! I encourage pigged to try this place out, you won't regret it...

Visited this place for lunch .We had the grape leaves as an appetizer then odered the shawarma ,my company had the gyro combo .i loooooove me some tsazaki sauce or however it's spelled lol I was dipping everything with it that food was really bomb.com .i love that they are halal. Our server/cashier was very friendly. They could redecorate the place to attract more people because really the food is good.I just wish their grape leaves filling was spicy but that's just a personal preference ;)

Good food but when it comes to delivery, expect to wait a long time. They say 25 minutes but more like a hour or so.

Every now and then, we receive an Athens menu in the mail. At first glance, the fact that they offer Greek, Italian, and American cuisine all in one place had me thinking, "How good can it be if there's that much variety? Subs, gyros, pizza, wings, chicken, spaghetti, etc.? Must all be pretty mediocre" ...Boy, was I wrong!!! We tried Athens for the first time last night and I am so glad we did! My husband ordered a Meat Lover's pizza and he LOVED it. The meat was tasty and was placed in between layers of melty cheese. The crust was not too heavy, and held up wonderfully despite all the meat and cheese. And it warmed up beautifully as leftovers the next day. ...I ordered the Gyro platter with fries. This was technically my first Gyro and I LOVED it. It was HUGE (I probably could have eaten just half of it and been fully satisfied, but it was so good, I ate it all!) and the meat was incredibly tasty. The two little cups of Tzatziki sauce were an incredible compliment to the gyro. My son loved the fries (and I did too), they were nice and warm and had a little crunchiness to them. ...Kind of reminded me of Burger King fries, which I like. :) The Delivery of the order was fast and painless, and arrived on time, and everything was still nice and hot. We will definitely be ordering from Athens again! Thumbs up! :)

Sis and I ordered up a few subs. Full 12". Good ratio of innards to bread. Good bread. Good delivery time. Decent pricing. Would order again.

We needed a quick lunch to tide us over until our evening family wedding. After yelping for a few minutes we settled on this place. The food was decent- the stuffed grape leaves were really yummy. We had a party of 8 adults, two kids, and there was only one other table (2 ppl) in the store and they were struggling with serving us and getting us our food & drinks. Maybe the B squad was working that day since it was a holiday. The AC was not working and it was particularly hot & muggy out that day so I think my memories of this lunch are tainted from being so miserably sweaty & hot during lunch.

Delicious standard Greek faire. We always get take out.Love the place.
(4)Marley D.
My bf and I always order the Chicken Kabobs and we have not been disappointed yet. The chicken is charred, juicy and has a light flavor (could be more flavorful) and all the kabobs come with a small Greek salad which is fresh and tasty. Overall a good place, they also deliver which is great.
(4)MoCe C.
Very good Food. Lamb was top notch. Really enjoined their tazakiy(cuc.yogurt dip [[ i know i cant spell) it was so nice tart spicy different kinda take then the usual Costco Hanna Brand. I like. Hummus was definitely not up to par with the rest of the meal. It be better if it did come from Costco. The owners are kind. Service was Ah ---, basically would worry if it were a busy night. Over all it was great food. Just stay away from the hummus.

I loved Athens and defended it when everyone talked about the poor service and atrocious owner.... Well today I eat crow. First, I called and was told 1 hour for delivery (I ordered at 7pm on a Sunday). Whatever. Then was quoted at a $6 higher price than what it should've been. I thought maybe it was a mistake over the phone and let it go. When delivery showed up the receipt confirmed the higher charges. We called the restaurant and were told by the owner that he would do nothing about it. That the menu online was only a guideline (what?!) and he wasn't updating it until January. Funny story, any time you click on the website link for Athens, it leads to this menu that NOWHERE states that it is merely a representation and NOWHERE states that prices are subject to change. Needless to say he decided to be a jerk and we decided we are never ordering from there again. Oh well, at least I know the truth about Athens now. There are other Greek and Mediterranean places in town, it isn't really a loss.

I have eaten at Athens restaurant several times and the food has never failed to disappoint. The combo Kabob, Tilapia Kabob and and especially the pizza. They make their own pizza dough which is light and chewy, and the cheese is super buttery. It's amazing!!! I heard it's under new management/ownership and they really seem to know what they're doing. I will definitely come back, and I encourage others to try it as well. I also heard that they are in the process of getting a liquor license. I can't wait!

I came here after shopping at Rugged Warehouse, and got the gyro deal. The staff was friendly, though I thought they were Greeks and was like hey, I lived in Greece and it was fabulous and the owner was like me no Greek. But anyways they were nice. I ordered the Gyro special to go. It came out fast. It was good but I felt that it was missing something. Meat was just a tad dry but it was good. Here is where they lose a star. The tzatzkiki sauce was too thick, I can tell it was greek yogurt. It lack the components that come with it. Overall, I would come back, and try other things.

The best Greek place I have found in the area. The owners are really polite, and the food has always been hot and very tasty. I live five minutes for here and if I call in before walking out the door, the food is almost always ready. When I order on site, I wait 10 minutes tops.
(4)Sonya P.
One of the best greek restaurants I've been too... some dishes may even beat places I've been to in Greece. Everything I had a very authentic flavor but don't worry, the menu is large enough that there is something for everyone. I ordered for pick up and it was ready when they said, still steaming hot when I got home.
(5)Beth P.
First, there is no air conditioning. Hot and muggy inside the restaurant on an evening in July. Second, we were only ones there (a few came in for pick up) and service was slow. No one asked if we wanted more to drink or needed anything else. Finally, food was not great. Tasted like it was frozen. Nothing tasted fresh. Will not go back.
(1)Shana S.
These are very cheap people. First of all they do not use air conditioning. They are very cheap with their portions. The side greek salad is very small, and they use very cheap oil. Very nasty owners and management at this restaurant. They degrade their staff; Scream at the waiters in front of the customers. Anytime you want something extra, or a substitution there is a problem. One time I tried calling to pre-order the food, pay for it and eat it there. This was a huge problem. The owner got very nasty saying this couldnt be done. I asked why can't this be done, I have a very short lunch break and would like the food ready for when i got there so I can just eat it. He said this wasn't possible, that I couldn't eat it there. I asked what the problem was and why was he being so nasty and he told me not to bother coming in because i told him he was being rude. I would never go back to this place ever again. Plus they advertise coupons and don't let you use them. Cheap people.

We went here a few months ago and had a couple of their gyro platters. I wasn't much of a fan... Last night we picked up a Greek delight pizza-gyro meat, feta cheese, fresh tomatoes, black olives, hot peppers and extra mozzarella ( yelp.com/biz_photos/urQm… ). The style was similar to a Papa Johns or Dominos pizza (not that there's anything wrong with that!), but with some additional, uniquely Mediterranean flavors. We'll definitely be back for their pizza. I figure if we're in the mood for a thicker, chewier crust, I'd rather give my business to a local restaurant than a chain.
(3)Christine L.
Discovered this charming place by accident, very friendly family run, great attention to customer service, wide selection, lots of favorites, really great value, best rice pudding I've had in a long time. Customer service and friendly atmosphere really made the place.
(4)Val D.
We had a fabulous meal there last night. Def gets my vote for #1 Gyro in Frederick!
(5)Erica D.
Received a flyer in the mail with coupons so we checked them out this past weekend. We ordered a gyro (lamb & beef) and wings. The gyro meat was ok in flavor, but there was very little feta cheese and tomato on the pita. I have had better gyros with a lot more meat at Aleko's in Middletown. The wings were just ok.
(3)Sarah S.
Gyro was decent. 2.5 stars. Maybe 3 stars. Actually, the meat was rather dry, but the tziki sauce helped with that. French fries were good.

hidden treasure! I like greek food and this small place was good. i think I had a kabob (i went here a few months ago, so I don't really remember). Also had baklava for dessert, which is always good too. Just randomly was looking for food one day while driving thru the area and stopped in this plaza. Checked out some reviews on Yelp and went here.

This was I nice little restaurant that I visited twice for carry out while I was in town for business. My first visit I ordered a Greek salad. It was fresh, large and a generous amount of Feta cheese (I hate when places skimp on the feta). It was plenty for my dinner. I think it was like 6.95. The next day I got the Gyro platter which comes with a small Greek salad, and your choice of fries, roasted potatoes, or rice. The owner recommended the roasted potatoes. If you want to avoid fried food, the roasted potatoes were a delicious alternative. The Gyro itself was delicious too, with plenty of meat and lettuce, tomato, onion and tzatiki sauce and feta. Also, important to Gyro lovers - the meat was sliced off the spit, not the pre-sliced stuff that some places throw on the grill. I did not eat in, but the owner was friendly and my carryout service was prompt. Overall, I thought they served quality food. Enjoy!
(4)Lorraine W.
Sucks. No meat in the chicken doner and it was cold. No flavor. I had many kebobs, doners, or gyros all over the world. This was by far the worst. The kitchen looked liked it wasn't cleaned in a while too.
(2)Dani B.
Great food! I had the pizza once and it was amazing. Just had the chicken schwarma last night very yummy! Nice people too. Love the fact they deliver too!
(4)Matthew B.
If you're looking for a great gyro platter in Frederick. This is the place to come.
(4)Thomas S.
I stopped in for a late lunch. The cafe was empty except for the owner, which is a shame - the food was excellent. I tried the lamb schwarma, and it came packed with thick chunks of delicious meat. The rice that came with it was very flavorful. As delicious as anywhere I ate at while I traveled around the Middle East. Service was very quick, prices were reasonable ($13 for a very large platter, side salad, and drink), and the food was great. If I am ever in Frederick again, I'll definitely stop by.
