Stopped in for lunch. Had the crab dip and wings then had the crab sandwich. I was pleased with the food. It's bar food. Give it a shot. Looks like a bit of history here stopped in Jan 2012

Service was poor, food took over an hour to get. Food was good and atmosphere was good. Overall good prices for what you get.

Came here on a Monday night as a friend said you have to do "Wings and Lings". Apparently the oldest beer in America is something called Yeuengling. It's a light and smooth lager. Rather tasty. I'm from the west coast and am spoiled with so many micro breweries. I have to say that this was a nice beer. The beer went well with the wings. Which on Monday was super cheap. I think a basket of wings only cost like $5. Super tip here: get the old bay wings. These were so amazing! My friends, also from the west coast were loving these old bay seasoned wings that we all ended up ordering another basket each. All in all, a nice simple yet cool bar feel. The walls have patches from fire departments all across the country. The national fire academy is just down the road. I will be back soon! "Wings and Lings"

We took our son for an overnight college visit to Mount Saint Mary's and decided to go off campus to see local venues-we stopped off in the Ott House and were welcomed like family! The food was fabulous - the crab dip was delicious!!! The owner offered us a ride to our hotel and told us whenever we come to visit our son he will pick us from the hotel and drop us back! Truly lovely family owned business and a breath of fresh air!!!

Okay it's a bar, but we have eaten lunch there plenty of times and that should be enough to say that we have enjoyed the food and service at this place. I like the décor as well! I do recommend the Maryland crab soup. Much better than the soup that a crab house not even a mile from this place serves!

Sucks. Don't eat the roast beef sandwich. The gravy isn't that great and there's soooooo much of it. Why? Just don't eat here. Go for the drinks

When checking out possible wedding venues in the area, my friend asked someone for advice on where to grab some lunch and she recommended The Ott House. It's on a super quaint street and we were excited and starving. The place is super casual on the inside but huge. Pool tables, stage area for bands, patches from firemen hanging on the wall behind the superlong bar. The food prices were ridiculously cheap. I got a crab cake sandwich. The menu doesn't state this, but sandwiches are served with potato chips. Not knowing this, I ordered a basket of waffle fries which were good, but not mind-blowing. My crab cake was really good, but it was falling apart so I gave up on the bun and finished it with a fork. The waitress was super friendly. After we got our checks, we asked if she could give us two to-go cups of soda for the road and she did it for us in less than a minute. Only complaint is that the bathroom needs a serious mopping.

I am only reviewing this restaurant because nearby Taneytown, MD had no restaurants or food establishments of any worth and the construction occurring makes things worse. My friends and I headed to Emmitsburg in search of a good meal and we found one at The Ott House. The food is nothing fancy, but the atmosphere is great and the prices are fair. There is a great selection of beers and the dishes are akin to traditional Maryland dishes. If you're traveling through this part of MD and need a bite to eat; check this place out.

It is what it is. A local bar. The food is fine and they have a little variety for beer which is saying a lot for smaller bars. I enjoyed my wings but the pizza was closer to a frozen style. Maybe should have gone with a burger. The staff is friendly and the clientele was nice. I would go back. If you are reading this odds are you are a student down the street at EMI or the NFA. Go ahead and go or a couple of pints. It's nice to get off campus and its not to far away.

Start by asking yourself a few questions: 1. Am I A Firefighter (Yes? Go Here-- Ott's is a local hangout for those attending the National Fire Academy, and is adorned with uniform patches from all over the world). 2. Do I like college kids (No? Avoid on weekend late nights. This is THE PLACE that Mt. St. Mary's students go. During the Fall and Spring semester on Friday and Saturday nights it gets a little crazy, but any other time it is pretty chill.) The food is offered in two sorts, bar food that includes sandwiches, pizza, and apps and a dinner menu that has steaks and seafood. The owner is often the person who will be serving up your drinks in this very spacious bar that also hosts pool tables, several TV's along the bar, KENO, and live music on the weekends.

ok, let's get serious here...Im a Mount Alum c/o 2003, so obviously the Ott House was a HUGE part of my life for many moons. Considering the smallness of the town, there are not many options to quench your thirst. And really...why do you even want another option? The Otthouse is perfect in so many ways. Great beers, great wait staff, great town, GREAT cheese fries....!!! They have live music on Fri and Sat nights, which is awesome. As for the food, I would give it a solid "meh", but reality check, (at least I hope your not) coming here for the food. My all time favorite bar.

I was impressed. Low-priced menu and our food and service were great. I went in mid-afternoon with the kids and we enjoyed a hot lunch of comfort food. I can't see myself eating anywhere else if I happen to be back in the area.

Fried shrimp, scallops and oysters were good. Pass on the rest of the seafood. Wings and beer were good.

This place is terrible. If you see good reviews its only from people that have never been somewhere with good food. The food sucks, the service is worse. The entrees were way overpriced but the sandwiches were priced right considering the dollar store ingredients. Stay away!!!

Found this place from yelp and decided to get a bite to eat. Has a warm, comfortable pub feel when you walk in. Our waitress was extremely friendly and helped recommend items to us since it was our first time there. Everything we ordered was excellent!! We got the crab dip (delicious homemade tortilla chips), chicken wings (sweet and crispy!), chili burger (homemade chili), onion rings (crispy beer batter!) and to top it off a homemade blueberry pie a la mode. The best part about our feast for 3 was it was CHEAP!! Definitely stop by this place, you won't be disappointed.

Good diner food in a divey atmosphere. The sassy chicken sandwich was a good choice. A grilled chicken breast with swiss cheese, mushrooms and Ott's own honey mustard dressing, accompanied by hand-cut french fries and a good sour pickle. What's not to love? Service was fast, if a bit spotty, but a huge motorcycle club arrived while we were eating and pretty much filled the place up, so it was understandable. The decor is basic but interesting. Ott's must have two thousand unique police and fire department patches. I stared at the wall for five minutes and found no duplicates. I'm sure there is a story behind it, but I'll have to save that for another visit.

Went here on a whim--we were planning to go to Stavros pizza right across the street, but it had burned down... We were pleasantly surprised by the Ott House though. Casual, relaxed atmosphere...the waitress was very friendly. We ordered a plate of nachos, scallops, and a baked potato. The food was decent, and the prices were great. Wide variety of fries (waffle fries, cheese fries, fries with gravy, etc.), which is always awesome. The menu includes "lite fare," which mostly falls in the $5 range (!!!), with vegetarian options (veggie melt sandwich, and there were a few others which now escape me), and a more expensive menu of seafood and steak. Overall a very fun place--there is a large bar and a stage in front for live music (no band when we were there though) and a pool area in the back. Lots of families and all types of people in the dining room.

i went to the ott house for the first time two years ago, for my 21st birthday. "something fruity. surprise me," i told the bartender, who also happens to be the owner. after learning that it was my birthday, he presented me with a pink drink with a straw in the shape of a penis, taken from the bachelorette party that was there that night. i enjoyed my drink and asked what it was -- "it's called a tight snatch," he said, grinning. i will be forever grateful to that man for making my first legal drink so memorable. i've been to the ott house a few times since and have grown to really appreciate the atmosphere. whether you want to sit down for a meal, sit at the bar, shoot some pool with the visiting firefighters (from the local firefighters academy), or dance to a guest band, you'll be happy. the food's good and the staff is friendly, they only want to keep you happy and the atmosphere upbeat (anyone not keeping their cool will be asked to leave before you even notice them), and no matter how crowded the place gets, they handle everyone with no problem. so if you're looking for a good time in emmitsburg, i definitely recommend that you check out the ott house. you won't be disappointed.

Love me some Ott House! Great food! Try the crab dip and the wings! Always a good time for a night out with friends yet a great place to take the family for good pub food for dinner or lunch!

Typical bar food. Inexpensive, good meal. Numerous firefighter tributes all over since many of it's customers come from the National Fire Academy down the road. EXCELLENT WINGS and beer selection.

Great time this evening at the Ott House. Jack our server was excellent. He had our drinks when needed our appetizers on time and our dinners were perfect and delicious. He did a great job serving 13 of us. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and plan on returning.

About an hour-and-a-half north of #Washington #DC is this local pub in #Emmitsburg, #MD just outside the #NationalEmergencyTrainingCenter. It's frequented by #firefighters in training at the center. Right in the heart of this small town's historic district, The #OttHouse is the kinda spot where everybody knows your name. Many firefighters over the course of history have left their station shoulder patches on the bar wall and many more have left their mark on the bar stools. Great regional comfort food on the menu to choose from -- but definitely try the #crabDip. The local #beer is #Yuengling -- a must have. Plenty of street parking. Tables for family style dining or eat at the bar. The staff makes you feel right at home. Once in, it's hard to leave. Highly recommended. Will definitely come back!

This is maybe a good place for drinks. I went here one time. Their bar is huge and lots of tables throughout. The food menu is priced well but it seemed like mostly upgraded bar food. Not a place I would want to go for dinner. We had drinks, sandwiches, and fries last weekend for lunch. It was an average experience. I probally won't go back. If you're in this town and you want a grab a burger and beer, you should be fine going here.

Great place to eat! I've gone to this restaurant for years. Our server was very friendly. We really loved the fried oysters and old bay steamed shrimp the most. The restaurant is in a terrific location. It is very quaint inside, and both the bar and dining area are somewhat rustic, but lovely décor. The only drawback to The Ott House is that it has a fairly strong smoke smell. If you are not a smoker, sit as far away from the bar as you can! We recommend The Ott House to couples, friends, and families, as it is a wonderful gathering place!

Kitschy, historic atmosphere and full of locals. Pitchers of beer and baskets of super-delicious, but over-priced, fried pub food. Waitress was attitude-tastic, but the pub quiz night is fun and the cheese-bacon fries are well-fried. A good time in a non-chain-restaurant setting in a charming vintage town. Portions are huge and share-able.

This is the place to go in Emmitsburg. Typically, you'll find three types of patrons: college students (usually from Mount St. Mary's), firefighters (the training academy is down the road), and locals (townies - 'nuff said). The inside is very divey, what you'd expect from a small town bar. There is a restaurant section that is a bit more family friendly, but overall, not too different. Firefighter patches from all over the country cover the walls in a way that ironically, must be close to violating some fire code. The bathrooms are small and kind of dingy; I wouldn't wear my Sunday best here. Some nights are brightened with live music - sweet. The service is friendly and can range in promptness. Normally, if they're not slammed, the food will arrive as quickly as humanly possible. The bartenders also mix the drinks with a heavy hand, so be aware of that. Don't worry, they often provide a service patrons call the "Drunk Bus," which is really a huge van and they'll take you home, and even sometimes pick you up if you're with a group. Food: GET THE WINGS. They're some of the best, and I don't mean for the area. They're crispy and meaty, and both sauces (hot and mild) are great. The mild is sweet, tangy, and peppery, rather than some weak buffalo sauce; I love ordering some extra sauce and dunking my waffle fries in it. Come on Monday for half price wings and Yeunglings. The other food is really okay. It's usually cheap though - $4 for a burger? Sounds great, so long as I don't think too hard about it. Whether you're in college, a firefighter, local, or perhaps someone driving up 15 ( to Ski Liberty, perhaps?), this is a passable place for people of all tastes and walks of life.

We stopped for lunch after a morning at Liberty Mountain Resort. This was exactly what you hope for from a small town restaurant: ambience was no frills but welcoming, food was basic but delicious, and service was laid back but attentive. Great value too: three adults and two kids had lunch for $50, including tip.

I love this place. I went to college in emmitsburg and love returning. I will say that you don't get your money's worth with the liquor drinks because you don't get an oz and a half in every drink, I've addressed this and they're pretty rude about it. Also I ask the owners to take note and discuss with their servers the importance of being polite to customers. It was busy today and I was a waitress for many years so I understand the frustration of working in that kind of environment but a waitress literally pushed me out of her way instead of simply asking me to step aside. That is not okay and should be addressed with the staff. Overall it's a great place, stick to the beer and watch out for rude waitresses though!

Downtown Emmitsburg hosts the Ott House, which we arrived at after visiting nearby Catoctin Mountain National Park. When we entered we were not greeted or acknowledged, so we sat ourselves (HINT: maybe a sign that says "please seat yourself" would help). After about 15 minutes we went up to the bar and asked for menus, after that a waitress came up to take our order. Their menu has some decent average/cheaper priced food. They have typical pub food: burgers, wings, fries, soups, salads, etc ranging in price from 4 - 7 dollars. Also check out the Seafood Favorites (shrimp, oysters, crab, tuna melt, etc).Ordered the Emmitsburger, which is a burger with bacon, mushrooms, cheddar cheese & gravy (4.25) and the Mushroom Swiss burger (4.25). The bar itself is older, having been in operation about 40+ years. The decor looks like it hasnt been updated since then, but not to worry, it adds character. It had a few tables, booths and 2 pool tables. Dimly lit. Lots of firefighter decorations & patches from towns all across the country. Worth a stop if you're in this part of Maryland.

Great little place. It IS the place to go when you are in town. The fact that your reading this means you are either a firefighter, a emergency manager or a college student looking for a fun time. This is the place. Ott's has a "bus" that will come and get you and take you back home. Nestled in the little town of Emmitsburg, MD, Ott's shares it's home town with the National Fire Academy, which brings firefighters from around the country to this joint. The theme is appropriate for its clientele. Patches and helmets from all over the country cover the walls. Most nights include live music or a DJ. Friday night special is the Prime Rib. This is a MUST EAT item in this menu.

If you want a big-city style "culinary experience," look elsewhere (e.g., a big city). If you want down-home comfort food, local patrons, occasional gangs of Catholic college girls, back room pool tables, a toddler-to-senior crowd, and a friendly atmosphere, look no further. The crab entree was pretty good; the side of canned green beans with chunks of processed ham, no so.

Great divey-type bar. Good food, very accommodating staff and overall a very fun place. It's a must stop for folks training at EMI or NFA as it offers a place to let your hair down after a long day and good opportunity to network with peers from around the country. They, very astutely, provide free van service to and from the academy. **hint: don't forget to bring your student ID with you in order to get back on campus at the end of the night.

My husband and I are fish and chips connoisseurs. We have traveled the world to find good fish and chips and we have never found them better than at the Ott House. The food portions are generous, the food is fresh and well prepared and the service is great. He highly recommend it!

For a pub, the Ott House is good stuff. The Flying Dog on tap in a frosty glass is the perfect end to any day. The crab dip is a delicious but decadent treat (get it with house-made bread instead of chips). The burgers and chicken sandwiches are reasonably priced but come with chips; opt for the nice crispy fries instead (my favorites are the Emmitsburger and the buffalo chicken sandwiches). In general the more pricey dinners are not quite worth the extra cost. One night I may sneak in, rip down the dusty curtains, and let some fresh air in. Then it will truly be a four-star restaurant!

Rumor has it that the famed insignia of the Ott House is that of a Scottish Terrier smoking a pipe. The Scotty dog in the rumor was owned by the Ott House's founder, who brought a dog home from Germany. As an avid smoker the owner would often be seen with a pipe in his mouth. One day, said Scotty dog picked up the pipe and appeared to be smoking it. From that day on, the Scotty dog smoking the pipe is one of the first things that comes to mind to the locals of Emmitsburg. The second thing that comes to mind, is inexpensive dining, plenty of beer and live music. Located on the square and opened in 1970, the Ott House offers a combination of fine family dining, and pub food with something on the menu that will appeal to all. It was on an overly warm, 90 degree day in April, I stopped in with my father for a quick bite. Upon entering the Ott House, one is greeted with a big open space reserved for live music. A few things back is the bar and dining room. Behind the bar one can see the "wall of patches" consisting of every company who has visited the Ott House from the nearby National Fire Academy--the number of patches on the wall would have required more time and attention to count than I would have preferred to have spent. I went with a steak and cheese sub ($4.95) a side of fries, ($2.00) and a sprite ($2.00); while my father had a cheeseburger ($4.00) and a Yingling (1.75) beer. And while I can't, nor will speak for my fathers burger and beer, I will stipulate that the steak and cheese was a beast. The portion of fries nearly hid the monster sandwich. And while the sub at five dollars is not gigantic in nature, it is hard to dismiss the fact that it was quite filling. It would also be a disservice to fail to mention that the meat used is not the standard faire of thin sliced beef one would find in a steak-um but rather thick cuts of meet. The fries were hot, and plentiful. Aside from the regular french fries, they offer waffle cut, cheese-fries, gravy fries and probably other varieties too numerous for me to remember off the top of my head. Aside from the steak and cheese I had, the menu included soups, salads, other sandwiches. I would venture to say, if you can't find something on the menu that would appeal to you, perhaps one should give up eating, and take to grazing in a field. The Ott Hosue is definitely one of the must hit places in Emmitsburg.

For the price probably 3.5/4. Probably best wings (mild sauce) I've ever had. Kinda rough decor but nice people and good value.
