I came to eat dinner with a few friends, and it was our first time at this restaurant. The ambience was friendly and the interior was furnished beautifully, and it was very clean and sharp looking. Throughout our experience, the staff was very polite and friendly. Although they had a sushi bar, we chose to be seated at a table. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. Going through their menu, we ordered a large selection of traditional Asian and more modern fusion food, as well as a variety of sushi. The food arrived in a timely manner, at the same time as the sushi. The sushi rolls were exceptional, some of the best around the area for the price. The dishes I tried were excellent, flavorful. and beautifully presented. Throughout the experience, the waitress was kind and often refilled our drinks. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking exceptional Asian fusion.

My wife and I decided to go back because of a groupon. Second time around was a better experience from when they had just opened for sure. We decided leave the Thai and sushi dishes behind and enjoyed everything we had this time around. Sesame chicken, Singapore rice noodles, and steamed gyoza were our picks. Large portions(we had some to take home) and tasty. The noodles didn't seem to be the focus, as there were lots of veggies and meat (3 kinds) in the dish. This is a very cute place inside. However, it seems to me that the menu is trying to do too much. This place is a good example of 'jack of all trades and master of none.' If you want to do sushi, just do sushi... make it the best sushi and really specialize in what you are doing... same for Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, etc, that this place seems to be trying to achieve. I guess the generalized "Asian Bistro" should be a dead giveaway that they have dishes from many Asian countries but just that they aren't done traditionally or even that well. I am a vegetarian and I have to say their vegetarian sushi is very good. BUT, I have now tried 2 of their noodle dishes: Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles. Sad to say, they were both pretty pathetic. Noodles with vegetables on them and a bare minimum amount of sauce. They are actually nearly indistinguishable dishes as far as I can tell. The pad thai was slightly more flavorful. The drunken noodles were not spicy at all, even though I requested medium spice. The noodles themselves are the same size as the pad thai noodles, which I believe is incorrect. Probably one of the more bland things I have tasted.

I don't know where to dine last night. We ended up at East Moon. The foods and service are ok, not bad and not good. I do not like that they combine all out sushi orders into one plate. It is harder to know which roll belongs to which person. The unagi sauce tainted into other raw sushi roll. We ordered Pad See Ew Thai stir fry noodles with egg but we got something similar to non spicy drunken noodle instead without any egg. Obviously they do not know the difference of the two dishes. The ambience is good and lots of people. I am not a fan.

I took my friend out to a birthday dinner here yesterday. Overall, a really great experience. The server was friendly and the food was great. My friend ordered the Panang Curry with tofu and he said he really enjoyed it. I ordered the Hunan Tofu with brown rice and I also really loved it. I love that they bring out a complimentary starter salad before you order food. It has a really delicious peanut dressing. Very simple but very satisfying. The prices are also great. My friend and I had dinner for just over $20. I would recommend it and I would go back.

Went for New Year's Eve with a group of about 12/13 people. Our server was really pushing drinks other than coffee, tea or water but was attentive, although a bit flustered. Our food was good and came to the table within a reasonable amount of time for a busy night. We each started with a small salad that comes with a delicious peanut ginger dressing. For my main dinner, I had the Ellicott Roll ( several types of fish rolled in soy paper with MD crab meat in top) Peanut Avocado Roll and a Kampyo Roll. All were excellent! Trying to keep it light, I ordered a Michelob Ultra which confused the server- she kept saying they don't carry that while it was listed on the menu. The restaurant allowed for separate checks and that made life easier! The only thing I'd request is that low sodium soy sauce be available on the tables like most sushi restaurants do. Great variety of special rolls, sushi and Asian Fusion dishes for non- sushi fans. Will surely return!

I ordered spicy tuna, spicy salmon and and eel roll for lunch (look, I was hungry and was on break from an 8-hour pilates teacher training course!). I passed by the place on my way to my class and decided I'd stop during our break for lunch. I walked in and was promptly greeted. Asked if they did to-go/take out orders and he said yes. I asked for a menu and proceeded to order. The order took around 10 minutes and was on my way. Got to my place of grub and was surprised at the pink ginger (um, ginger is not pink). Did not eat. The spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls were tasty. The eel was really good. I also ordered a seaweed salad (VERY fresh and seaweed wasn't limp/non-firm). The sushi rolls here were amazing! They were bigger and tasted much better than from other local restaurants that I typically visit for sushi. The lunch special was also a great deal! I highly suggest you get the Maryland Blue Crab Roll. It may be one of the best sushi rolls I have ever had! The decor and environment here were also great. Ordered take-out and was pretty impressed. Their shrimp tempera roll is super huge but super delicious, the asparagus in it is really good too! It's a great combo of flavors. I also ordered a spicy yellowtail roll and a shrimp, cucumber, and avacado roll. The yellowtail roll wasn't amazing but decent- I also happen to be pretty picky about my yellowtail rolls ;). This was my second time at East Moon, the first time I got some takeout for the fam, just vegetarian entrees no sushi. The meal was really good so I figured why not check out the sushi. A few weeks ago, I came here to pick up some sushi to go and oh how disappointing. My shrimp tempura roll was wayyy too big and was impossible to even eat with your fingers let alone a pair of chopsticks. It immediately fell apart. There was asparagus in it which wasn't mentioned in the description. My salmon nigiri was definitely not fresh. I will NEVER be back here for sushi, which is too bad cuz the ambience of the restaurant was pretty nice. There are so many better sushi restaurants in the area - don't bother with this place if you're craving sushi.

A nice place. This was the first time I've tried sushi and I liked it. I started with the Beef Drunken noodles. They call it medium spicy but I think that's just for wimpy Americans. It had a little zip but nothing too bad. I sampled 4 different kinds of sushi. Two I remember (Californian roll and shrimp tempura roll), and two I don't remember. They were all good. We also had the edamame and sake. I was nervous about trying sushi but it was all very tasty. I probably should learn how to use chopsticks if I go here again, which I probably will. Recommended.

I went here with a large group. The place reminds me of what you would picture as a typical Asian bistro. It has a lot of the standard Chinese fare on the menu. It clearly tries to be a little "hip" with its mood-lighting and trendy decorating. Everyone was served a small glass bowl of salad (mostly iceberg lettuce) with all bowls getting the same dressing (no choice). I personally enjoyed it, and I think it had some variant of a Thousand Island dressing. It was an unexpected nice touch. You have an option of either eating with typical silverware or chopsticks. I ordered the sesame chicken. The portion was plentiful, and the sauce wasn't too over-bearing. The chicken was a little crispy and tasted good. It wasn't too sweet, which is sometimes a problem with sesame chicken. The waitress was very nice and refilled our water and checked on us several times. I'm amazed that the staff members were able to sort out all of our individual orders and receipts. Impressive!

I love this place! It's less than half a mile from my house, so I order delivery or take out from them at least once a week. I've tried just about everything on the menu and never been disappointed, although my favorites are the Singapore rice noodles and chicken satay. The food is well-prepared and tasty, the staff and service are excellent, and I've never had a subpar experience. I'd also like to give a special shout to James who always seems to be answering the phones and everywhere at once in the restaurant. He is one hard-working and friendly guy!

The 'Royal Taj' of asian fusion food in Columbia..ha ha ha..NO !! The 1 star is for the hard working waitresses, the food gets a negative 5. We were a party of 4 and we shared 4 entrees and 4 appetizers between us. How do you so consistently make every item you ordered taste so bad? It truly takes a special cook who probably read culinary Sun Tzu to wage war on his dishes to prepare food so terrible that it was downright hilarious ! Fried tofu ? How does chunks of tofu in zero spiced or salted batter deep fried sound ? Or drunken noodles with exactly 6 strings of flat noodles and huge chunks of broccoli and tomato ? Care for some spicy panang ? Ordered it "extra spicy" and received the so called panang which was as spicy as the water i was drinking, and yup, comes accessorized with large tomatoes and brocollis ! And how does one manage to make spring rolls with no stuffing in it ?? Ladies and gents, i kid not, either the cook was on drugs or i am a marked man in this restaurant ! Even drunken elephants cannot drag me to this place again!

The only good thing about the place is the decor. Service is a 2 of 5. Our kid wasn't given utensils/napkin, so I grabbed them from another table. There were three other tables when we came in at 5:15ish and food took a long time to come. We ordered green curry with beef and it was the most bland green curry I've ever tasted. It was pretty overpriced for what it was. The sesame chicken was actually pretty good considering how a lot of the places do it around here. But the plating was half-ass, and weird. The rice was dumped into a weird shape on the same serving plate. I had to ask for two plates for my kid and I. Typically in Asian restaurants, it's about sharing and getting a bunch of dishes; here's it's very Americanized and cater the plating for one person. With this in mind, 12.50 for a serving that's not to be shared for Asian food is a bit much. The curry was served in a slanted bowl with rice served on a small plate with a spoon. Again, overkill. The crab in the spider roll was actually good, not mushy, but it wasn't wrapped that well. But I'm not going to take a chance on this place for either carryout or dining in moving forward. I' not going to risk wasting $12 on a hit or miss dish if we order 10 dishes, if half the dishes have no flavor, like the green curry dish. We tipped the waitress like 19%, wrote a note on the tab that it the green curry was very bland and peaced out. With how long it took for the food to come out, I'm not going to try to get them to fix it, or get a refund for it, if they are serving food like that. Too many options means horrible quality control and this is a perfect example of that.

You are going to find better pad thai and drunken noodles at a good thai restaurant. Their entrees are still good and the vegetables fresh. The sauces are a little on the bland side for my taste. My favorite dish is the moon harbor chicken - their hot and sour soup is very tasty.

I've never stepped foot in the restaurant, but I get delivery once or twice a week. They are amazingly fast with my deliveries. Maybe too fast for sushi rolls, but I try not to think about that. Food is so subjective, but I find their sushi to be some of the best I ever had. Their specialty rolls are great. As others have said, they are sometimes a bit large, but go ahead and use a fork to eat them. This is Amurica! Their Won-Ton soup is the best I have ever had. I've found all of their Chinese dishes to be the best I have ever had delivered. Their chicken Teriyaki is absolutely terrible. Avoid it at all costs. That's the only reason they get 4 stars instead of 5.

The food here is excellent! It's made with high-quality ingredients and expertly crafted. Every dish I tried was just as wonderful as the next! The shumai ($4.95) were perfectly steamed with a slightly sweet rice vinegar/soy sauce dipping sauce. And the California roll (with Tobiko per special requests, $5.95) was the best I've had in quite a while! I ordered the sesame scallops mild ($14.95), and they were delectable and perfectly cooked! The service was courteous, very fast, and attentive. Our server was very willing to accommodate special requests for items. The only odd thing is that they must be having plumbing problems (who isn't?). You cannot flush any toilet paper in the toilet, so there are small OPEN trash cans in the stalls with people's used toilet paper in them! My suggestion would be to get larger, kitchen-size trash cans with doors that can easily be opened and reclosed. All in all, the food was amazing, and I'll certainly go back and try more!

We've been there a couple of times, & only order Chinese, never sushi. As has happened before, I have to give them a mixed review. Service was very good; our server was not fluent in English, but another server kept watch over her & stepped in when ours had trouble understanding. Wonton soup was great, with flavorful vegetable broth & delicious wontons full of meat. The real problem we have here is the sauces on entrees; they are usually not described on the menu, & but are generally too sweet, too salty, AND have too much garlic. From now on, I plan to either get a definitive list of ingredients, or I'm going to ask them to stir fry the meal & serve without sauce. The basic food has always been good. The triple crown had excellent shrimp, scallops, & tender beef pieces, with nice vegetables. The lemon grass chicken was very good; really tender chicken but, oddly, it was spongy in texture. Entrees were large, & reasonably priced. I really want to like this place, I just have to figure out the sauce problem.

Their quality of service has really decreased since my last review. When we're the only ones in the restaurant, we expect to have some type of decent service. At least refill our water one time! Sheesh... We had to ask for more water. Twice. The food took almost 40 minutes to come out. I don't know why the service was so slow when we're the only ones in the restaurant. Maybe they had a bunch of take out orders? Or they're just getting settled down and needed to warm up? I try to give the benefit of a doubt to them. We did come right when they opened, so maybe that's why... I still enjoy eating their food. Got the Basil Chicken and Tonkatsu. They said the chicken is spicy, I told them I love spicy! But my gosh, I didn't know it was THAT spicy! After the first few bites I felt a bead of sweat slowly sliding down my cheek. I drank the whole cup of water (Terrible mistake) and my tongue just got hotter! I ate all of the rice, and still had more than half of my dish left. The first bite was really good, but after that, it was so spicy that I couldn't really enjoy and taste the potential of their dishes. It's like they put in concentrated habanero seeds in there or something! The Tonkatsu, Japanese style fried pork was delicious. The thin but crispy layer of fried batter and the thick but juicy pork ready to be devoured by my big hungry ass! Excuse the language. Their food is still good in my opinion, just gotta tell them to tone it down a bit with the spiciness. But their service has gone down so I'm gonna have to give this place a 3 star rating.

Food is decent. We've only ever order delivery or take-out so the service is more about phone and delivery. Service isn't great. Multiple times they have gotten the order wrong or forgotten something. The last time, I went and picked up food for the office because I needed to make a bank stop on the way. I asked if everything was in there, they double checked, yes. Okay. I get back to the office and we're missing three soups and salads as well as a curry dish. I call and tell them the issue and they tell me that A- The special rolls don't come with a soup and salad... it's on the menu that they do. B- They only put in the system for 1 curry dish... we had ordered two and the woman had repeated the order back to me over the phone. C- Did I want to come and get it.... no, you're coming to me this time. I made them fulfill the soup and salads that we were expecting to get because it's clearly stated on the menu that way. They also brought the second curry dish. They didn't seem too pleased, but then again neither was I. I'd go elsewhere for better service and food.

Too "Americanized" for my taste. I grabbed some take-out because I was in a pinch and it was the closest restaurant. The woman at the host stand was really sweet. The decor was kinda cool with high ceilings and a chic retro vibe. I ordered the kung pao tofu and asked for it as spicy as they could make it(I got the vibe that it was going to be providing zero heat otherwise). The woman that took my order offered a side of red pepper oil just in case it wasn't spicy enough which I thought was thoughtful. The dish was pretty bland and though it was covered in Thai red peppers, the peppers had no heat. For a vegetarian dish I thought it was lacking in veggies. I didn't hate it but I wouldn't go back. There are a lot of great authentic Asian restaurants in the area that I would prefer to go to. I think this place would work for folks that are looking for Asian cuisine but aren't really into authentic style.

I love this sushi restaurant, it's my favorite in the area. We usually go around happy hour and sit at the bar, because their specials are amazing. They bring you out some salad with peanut butter dressing, which is just so mouth watering, I wanna keep ordering more. Peter, the bartender, is really sweet and friendly, and keeps up good conversation. His drinks are also yummy, and he'll make sure you like them. Their sushi....they have never disappointed. I love their spicy tuna and spicy salmon, which is what we always order. I have also tried half of their specialty rolls, and I must say my favorite was the James. My wife and I were having some family over and visited our favorite Liquor Store on Dobbins road, Dobbins Liquors. We noticed the store owner (Keith) eating a rice noodle plate and asked him what it was. He provided us with a menu and said it was called a Vietnamese Rice noodle bowl which is a popular Noodle Bowl with Lettuce, Cucumber, Tomato, Bean Sprouts, Green Onions and crushed Peanuts, Served with chili-lime Sauce. You have a choice of meats or shrimp to add of you like. We later searched for East Moon online and discovered they had online ordering and delivery depending on your location. My wife ordered the rice bowl with shrimp and I ordered sesame chicken. I was not too thrilled with the chicken but loved how the rice bowl was prepared and seasoned. That has been our favorite dish from East Moon Asian Bistro. We also paid them a visit during the week and loved the ambiance and laid back atmosphere. There are many Asian restaurants in Columbia Md that provide good and great food; so far East Moon is on our great food list!

Surprisingly OK, as in, kind of good. I'd say it's competitive with Chopstixxx, Sushi Q or Katana, but maybe not Hunan Manor. Got a buddha's delight tofu dish and it was quite tasty; tofu was perfect texture and a good mix of vegetables. California roll there was decent. Got the fantasy roll--quite good and generous helping of maryland crab on top. Pad thai was thick, flat noodles with a strong lemongrassy taste. Not so thrilled w/ any chicken dishes though-seems to be a rough, rubbery texture. Might avoid chicken dishes. Chopstixxx wins in this department--their chicken is soft, white, and tender. Friend went there w/ her grandpa, they only applied the senior discount to her grandpa's dishes and not the whole check. However, I should balance it out by saying that I went with a Groupon, and really wanted to just take it back to the house. At first, they said it has to be dine-in, so we agreed that I'll show up, sit down and eat 1 bite and they can pack it up to go. By the time I got there (which is like, 1 min later) they had worked out a solution--adding $1 to each dish and bypassing the dine-in requirement--that worked for me and I was pleased with how they quickly worked something out. Got the sesame tofu (alright) and the "taste of siam" The last dish looked weird as it was pieces of grilled scallop, shrimp, and sea bass, and then a whole eggplant encased with fried dough. But the scallop was surprisingly big (more than quarter sized) and the shrimp was nicely deveined. Sea bass was fragrant. Most of all, the thai curry sauce that came with the dish was A+. We used it for other things later on... Overall, I'm glad we have a viable option for Asian food so close to our house for those nights when you don't have time to deal w/ food prep.

I really love this place. I go for the sushi, and it never disappoints. Tonight, I got the sashimi platter, and it was presented so beautifully. Also, delicious. So delicious. I like the dressing on the salad, its got a good peanutty-ness to it. Makes the iceberg lettuce slightly more exciting. The Miso soup is chock full of seaweed and tofu, and really good. The service has always been excellent, and I highly recommend it to anyone.

It might have been a mistake to go with Chinese instead of sushi but there's no way their sushi could be better than J&Y. Things started well with a decent Crab Rangoon but it went downhill from there. The Vietnamese egg rolls were just odd. I'm not sure what they were seasoned with but they didn't taste like anything Vietnamese I've ever eaten. My Mongolian Beef was too sweet and not at all spicy. The sauce was so watery it turned my rice into soup. The Taste of Siam was an odd combination of things that didn't go together at all. The tempura shrimp, scallops, and sea bass were well cooked but boring. The eggplant was also well cooked but bizarre. An entire eggplant was cut into strips but left connected at the stem then they deep fried the whole thing. All of this was served with a weak peanut sauce that had almost no seasoning. Overall, the meal was uninspired and disappointing. With so many other Asian options in the area, there's no reason to go here again.

I went here when the location first opened because of it's convienient location and the fact that they sent me a couponin the mail. Since then I've been here a handful of times. I even took my parents and my dad enjoyed the Crispy duck. The restaurant is in a great neighborhood, has nice decor, friendly staff, and I love that they serve sushi as well. The food is ok. For carry out orders, I like how they put the sauce in a separate container so that you're able to dip or pour it on the food. (That's what they did when I ordered the General Tso chicken.) Overall, decent Chinese food for a reasonable price.

We dined in once and had take out once, and we were pretty pleased both times. The first time I had sushi, which was alright. Not the best sushi in the EC/Columbia area, but no complaints. The second time I had the Kung Pao Tofu, which was really yummy. They have a great vegetarian menu that substitutes tofu for meat in many popular dishes. I sampled the drunken noodles and thought those were yummy too. Some people are bashing the decor. I think it's cute. Sure the artwork might be straight off the wall at Bed Bath and Beyond, but it's colorful and spacious. I think it looks clean inside.

Reading through all the reviews I am truly shocked at how many people think that the food tastes bad. My husband and I love chinese take out and always tried different places until we settled on one that seemed best to us... until we tried this place. SO GOOD! The food tastes fresh, light and flavorfull. Our favorite is the Chicken Basil an the Triple Delight. Our son loves the Broccoli chicken. The chicken satay is great as well... the chicken on it is actual thick chunks of real chicken, not the fatty breast meat you get in most Take Outs. I did notice that many of the employees do not speak english very well and have also been told that the service when dining in is not great. We never ate in, we always get take out... most of the time pick it up. I had it delivered once an the delivery person appeared pretty rude, but in the end I didn't care as the food was great as always and we had it in a matter of 20 minutes DELIVERED!

EastMoon is our go to sushi spot and we eat here at least once a week. It isn't the best sushi in the are but the atmosphere and expansive menu make up for it. We are able to hit all of our cravings in one spot. The Redskin and MD roll are the best. The service could use some help but that's the only complaint.

Give it a chance. Yes, I think they're still ironing out some service issues. The hostess, while perfectly polite, was dressed as if she just walked in from hanging out with friends at the mall (meaning, a bit too casual). The provision of plates, beverages, etc. had a less "here, let me attend to you" feel than a just plain ol' "Here." feel. We sat at the sushi bar, and the chefs appeared to be rockin' out their rolls. The presentation for larger selections (like the massive serves-2 platter we ordered) was lovely (albeit, as noted by Sean L., on a very big plate). And the fish was fresh and delicious. What else matters for sushi, really? The selection was a bit dull, but I would imagine that's to accommodate most people's less....adventurous tastes. The chef's eyes almost popped out in surprise when I commented that my favorite piece on the plate was the octopus (not the perfectly good but predictable rainbow roll, complete with krab-with-a-K). My husband ordered the chicken and coconut soup, which he described as just okay and not very coconutty. But seeing that I wasn't having a hot appetizer, the sushi chef gave (and I mean "gave") me a plate of tempura white fish. I don't usually like tempura, but this could change my mind. It was very, very light and not at all greasy. Decor is uber-hip--somewhat anachronistically so, given its strip-mall location. Although this is, after all, a Columbia strip-mall, so it's fashioned to be prettier than one might find on Route Whatever.

So when you pull up to a "hip" and "new" Chinese bistro at 9:45 on a Saturday night in a bustling town like Columbia and it is DEAD EMPTY, do you go in? Do you walk away? Well I would recommend walking away, now that we made the mistake of walking in. Lots of comments here about rude service, we did not have that experience. In fact since it was DEAD SLOW we were probably over-served, you know when someone drives by every 2 minutes to ask you AGAIN if you are done with that plate of Edamame that you were NOT done with two minutes earlier. Yes, that over-served!! Others have mentioned the chicken and they are right. At first I thought the satay was perhaps with dark meat, but it looks white-ish. But it is rubbery and gristly! So odd for white chicken, don't get anything chicken. The sushi rolls set off an alarm when they came way to fast for 3 specialty rolls and 2 standard rolls. And they are HUGE, too big in fact. A layer of fish or eggs on top of a roll should add a little flair, not be 1/2 an inch thick, gross!! They should have spent about $75000 less on decor and opening costs and focused on the FOOD FOOD FOOD. It is a restaurant, food first-I say drive by and head to Sushi King on Dobbin Road, we will next time!!

Second visit here. Service warm and friendly. Food: sucked. I had Kung Pao Chicken....w/ Brown sauce - it looked black. Daughter has Chicken Teriyaki. Chicken was mystery meat. I used to live down the street from East Moon, and I ate here a few times a month. Generally, I like it very much. It is better to go before 3pm, while "lunch" is still going on...all of the plates are a few bucks cheaper. For under $10, you get a gigantic portion of food, of which you will be taking home half...pretty good deal. On Fridays evenings there is a sushi happy hour, with a few bucks off of sushi rolls, that is a pretty good deal too. Service is generally VERY quick (although I have had a few exceptions over the past year), and has been excellent every time except once (again, I have eaten here ~20 times). The staff aren't too engaging, but I don't really view that as a problem...it seems many do not speak English well. The inside of the restaurant is modern and clean. There is also hot sake available and a decent selection of Asian beers. Good place for a date at the sushi bar, the rest of the restaurant is a little open feeling and not very intimate.

Yippeeee! EMB delivers and it's fast and fresh. Called on my way home (I know I'm not the only one who does that lol) and they actually made it to my front door as I was pulling into my driveway. We got a couple of sushi rolls (spicy shrimp and shrimp tempura) and they were huge. They have some cool variety of flavors I may not have imagined together (asparagus with the tempura roll) but tastes absolutely mouth-watering. I want to try them all eventually. The potstickers were just the right amount of crispy on the outside and soft, pillowy on the inside. EMB is at the top of the list now that their food is only a phone call away!

Love this place! They offer sushi lunch specials almost every day and I've never had a bad meal. The only problem is that the servers don't speak English very well. I asked the server if they had butterscotch schnapps and after a couple minutes of her trying to understand what I was saying, I finally had to write it out on a piece of a paper. She returned saying they didn't have it. I was kind of surprised considering they have a full bar so maybe no one could understand what I meant. If they would hire some English speaking servers, I would have given them five stars. The main point of a server's job is to talk to the guests, why would you employ a staff that can't?

For Columbia this place has really good sushi for a pretty decent price. I've never been there, but their delivery is fast. I usually order the spicy salmon roll, steamed pork dumplings (which are the best I've had in the US), and chicken fried rice. I've ordered other things from there, but I've learned it's best to stick with the basics. The only downside about this place in their miso soup which they really water down. Otherwise...for Columbia it's pretty good.

East Moon Bistro has a pretty decent lunch special where you can get two or three select sushi rolls, soup, and salad. I have always had good food from this restaurant, but I think it is overpriced. A handful of my co-workers have felt ill after eating at this restaurant (on different days) so it has swayed me from frequenting it too often. Just a note: this East Moon Bistro is unrelated to the location in Bowie.

It's not on my "never again" list, but if my next visit is bad it will be. Shame too, because the first two visits were pretty ok. Just went here on a business lunch last week with colleagues. From the time we entered and throughout the hour and a half we were there, the place was dead. This should have tipped me off that this wasn't the best place to eat, but hey, when my meal is being paid for by someone else, I don't complain. First off the decor is really... interesting. When we walked in, I wasn't sure if we'd entered a restaurant or a nightclub. After being seated, we started off ordering a wide variety of sushi (at least 10-12 different rolls). It all came out on one huge platter which was rather annoying as we had ordered some rolls that we've never had before, making it difficult to identify which were which. Our server, although nice and attentive enough, also was not sure. Additionally, as a ganish to the platter, they filled a cocktail glass with those flashing LED plastic ice cubes, which we found to be both odd & highly amusing. The sushi itself was meh. I've had much better but at least it didn't make me sick, and it came with enough wasabi and pickled ginger for everyone. For my main dish, I ordered the Sea Bass in Black Bean Sauce. This also came with a helping of veg fried rice. It came out fairly promptly, looked fairly well presented, and the fish was cooked properly. However, the food was the most blandest Chinese food I've ever eaten. And I mean bland, like nursing home bland. At first I thought it might just be my dish, but alas, all of our dishes were afflicted by lack of flavor... boo. As for the service, we had no problem being seated right away, I never had to ask for a drink refill, and the bill was brought promptly so we could get out when we needed to. From previous reviews, I noticed people complaining about the service but I personally found the service to be spot on. All in all, if you want to go out for sushi in Columbia, Sushi King on Dobbin Rd. and Sushi Sono by the mall are better bets. And Hunan Manor on Deepage Dr. has way better Chinese food.

I went to dinner here last night with my family. The food was pretty good, as was the presentation. What really threw the entire experience off for me was the service. We ordered drinks from the bar, which didn't come to the table until I reminded the waitress about them AFTER we had finished our appetizers. The drinks were just sitting at the bar, having been made a while before. The same happened again with our food: my entree arrived (after waiting a good long while) and we had to ask where my daughter's and husband's sushi rolls were. Again, they were sitting, ready made, at the sushi bar. Considering the price that we paid, I would expect MUCH more attentive service, which is a shame considering what a great location the restaurant is. I might order take-out, but I would probaly not eat another sit-down meal here.

I frequent here for their take out sushi & crab rangoon. My boyfriend is obsessed with their General Tso's chicken. They have the FASTEST service.. if you get delivery, you literally have your food in 15-20 minutes. I've only dined in twice... the first time I sat at the sushi bar and my service was AMAZING. We felt like we were being treated as though we were royalty. When we sat down, they immediately waited on us and brought us our edamame. Then, the sushi bar guys handed us each this ahi tuna bowl mixed with veggies that we didn't order. They said "on the house". What a pleasant surprise and it was tasty! We ordered 3 types of rolls and they came out quickly and were delicious (favorite is MD blue crab roll). Then when we asked for the check, they brought out a slice of cake that we hadn't ordered. Another "on the house!". I couldn't believe how amazingly they treated us. Luckily we live super close and can walk there... because this is my favorite spot in town!

They brought out our appetizer and sushi and we had to wait 5 minutes to ask for plates because they seem to like dropping off food and running very fast. They filled my daughters water glass once but neglected everyone else's drink. The food was good but the service really stunk. It seems they have no idea on how to run a restaurant. The sushi there is very good, not what you would expect from a place that does such a wide variety of dishes, but they put as much effort into the sushi as other sushi restaurants in the area. Green curry with chicken --bad! Chicken tasted rubbery and didn't looked cooked. Thai spicy soup not spicy nor seasoned. Coconut shrimp tasted like it was lean cuisine prepackaged frozen. Peanut curry with beef tasted bland. Waitress got mad when I asked her to take back the spring rolls. I went here with my mother for the first time on a Tuesday evening, so it was pretty empty. Overall, the service was okay, but they were a little slow to refill our water, bring the check, etc. We ordered the Toyko roll, Pad Thai and an order of edamame. The edamame took a long time to come out, practically at the same time as our food. It was also a very small dish, which at $6, came as a surprise to me. The Tokyo Roll came out next. It was okay, nothing was wrong with it, but nothing to write home about either. The Pad Thai came out as we were eating our sushi, and I was pretty disappointed. There was way too much sauce, with a puddle forming in the bottom of the dish. The chicken also had a strange sponge-like consistency, which we didn't enjoy. Last, pad thai generally has chopped peanuts as a topping and ours didn't come with any. I would still like to go back for a second visit, as they haven't been open too long and every new restaurant has improvements to make.

Sushi--bland, loosely wrapped, kind of smelly--stay away! They sell better sushi at the Foodlion. Drunken Noodles--worst we've ever had (try Thai Aroma for decent Drunken Noodles). Basil Chicken--beyond gross. Shrimp Shumai--boiled not steamed and the most disgusting strong fishy taste and horrible texture. Bad dinner overall. Plus the place was kind of dirty, got a shot of the kitchen on the way back from the men's room--looked bad, food all over the floor etc. Our favorite part? The decor...My partner said "this place is like being inside of Max Headroom's head". The colors sort of looked like a comic book--this place is a train wreck!

The bar was inviting and the restaurant decor was Art Deco. The atmosphere felt rushed-it was a Friday night and everyone just bought their living social discounts. We started with a complimentary salad that was literally shoved over to us. Then no one returned for a good 10 minutes while we sat waiting for utensils/chopsticks. We started with the tsunami roll which was very good. Eventually we got drinks and ordered our main courses. We had the basil shrimp with vegetables and minced chicken. Definitely do not come here for any of the entree dishes. Terrible, bland, poor quality... like really bad fatty meat and horribly tasteless sauces. As far as sushi goes, this is clearly not the place to go for *good* sushi. That said, they have some ok rolls. I somewhat like the Christmas roll, which is salmon, tuna, and avocado for $6 I think. Don't get the sashimi or nigiri though... just not worth the price. Anyway, if you live nearby, they do deliver, but don't go here looking for anything special. Do not under any circumstances order anything with meat in it.

We've been to East Moon three times, now. I can't speak for all of their Asian cuisines. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Asian fusion places because the sushi is rarely good quality. We've only had the sushi at East Moon and it is very good. The portions are a good size and the presentation is beautiful and served family-style. The atmosphere is modern and seems to be a great place to bring the family. I still give Yama Sushi and Sushi Sono an edge for quality and having an intimate setting, but East Moon's sushi is very good and priced well, especially for coming with groups. Will be back soon!

This is my new favorite sushi place! Don't let the typical suburban exterior fool you, the interior looks like its a down-town, high-end sushi joint! The atmosphere is great! Average dining experience, but I find it hard to find great Asian food in the Columbia area. The sushi was tasty. I enjoyed the peanut avocado sushi quite a bit. However, the rest of the food was edible but not the best. The noodles were very dry. The green curry was white (odd). At least the sesame tofu was flavorful. If someone were to suggest eating here, I'd groan and hope they'd change their mind. But I'd eventually give in if they insisted, purely for the sushi.

We had a family gathering on a Sunday (early afternoon). The service was about as bad as I have ever seen. Very rude .... almost to the point that it seemed like the servers did not want us there wasting their time. The so called full bar was a joke. We requested a bloody mary, but they did not know how to make it. We requested a non alcohlic beer (o'douls) which was on the menu, and they did not have it. As far as the food goes, it was very bad.... I highly recommend not wasting time at this place.

It would have been great to have a good sushi place close by - however this isn't it. We ordered take out from here three times, the first time (right after they opened) was good, sushi was decent and the couple of apps we ordered were ok also. The second time they massively screwed up our order (all a la carte sashimi was sent out as nigiri, wrong entrees, etc). We decided to give them a final chance and my husband found broken glass in his rice ! I assumed that they don't cook rice to order and called the restaurant to let them know about this so that someone wouldn't get seriously hurt. The manager was pretty relaxed about the whole thing - not nearly as horrified as you might think. That combined with the food not being very good makes this a place to avoid.

The restaurant itself is spacious, clean, cutely decorated and in a good location but the food was just average. The Udon noodle dish we ordered was good, but the Chicken Teriyaki my husband ordered was pretty bland. He didn't even finish it which is unusual. My brothers ordered the green and panang curries. They were good but the sauce was thicker than I've had from Thai mom's cooking throughout the years and I'm not sure I like the thicker style. I don't think any of us were impressed enough to come back and try their sushi.

I came to eat dinner with a few friends, and it was our first time at this restaurant. The ambience was friendly and the interior was furnished beautifully, and it was very clean and sharp looking. Throughout our experience, the staff was very polite and friendly. Although they had a sushi bar, we chose to be seated at a table. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. Going through their menu, we ordered a large selection of traditional Asian and more modern fusion food, as well as a variety of sushi. The food arrived in a timely manner, at the same time as the sushi. The sushi rolls were exceptional, some of the best around the area for the price. The dishes I tried were excellent, flavorful. and beautifully presented. Throughout the experience, the waitress was kind and often refilled our drinks. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking exceptional Asian fusion.

My wife and I decided to go back because of a groupon. Second time around was a better experience from when they had just opened for sure. We decided leave the Thai and sushi dishes behind and enjoyed everything we had this time around. Sesame chicken, Singapore rice noodles, and steamed gyoza were our picks. Large portions(we had some to take home) and tasty. The noodles didn't seem to be the focus, as there were lots of veggies and meat (3 kinds) in the dish. Everything was served quickly and the wait staff checked in on us regularly. Glad we tried it again.

This is a very cute place inside. However, it seems to me that the menu is trying to do too much. This place is a good example of 'jack of all trades and master of none.' If you want to do sushi, just do sushi... make it the best sushi and really specialize in what you are doing... same for Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, etc, that this place seems to be trying to achieve. I guess the generalized "Asian Bistro" should be a dead giveaway that they have dishes from many Asian countries but just that they aren't done traditionally or even that well. I am a vegetarian and I have to say their vegetarian sushi is very good. BUT, I have now tried 2 of their noodle dishes: Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles. Sad to say, they were both pretty pathetic. Noodles with vegetables on them and a bare minimum amount of sauce. They are actually nearly indistinguishable dishes as far as I can tell. The pad thai was slightly more flavorful. The drunken noodles were not spicy at all, even though I requested medium spice. The noodles themselves are the same size as the pad thai noodles, which I believe is incorrect. Probably one of the more bland things I have tasted.

I don't know where to dine last night. We ended up at East Moon. The foods and service are ok, not bad and not good. I do not like that they combine all out sushi orders into one plate. It is harder to know which roll belongs to which person. The unagi sauce tainted into other raw sushi roll. We ordered Pad See Ew Thai stir fry noodles with egg but we got something similar to non spicy drunken noodle instead without any egg. Obviously they do not know the difference of the two dishes. The ambience is good and lots of people. I am not a fan.

I took my friend out to a birthday dinner here yesterday. Overall, a really great experience. The server was friendly and the food was great. My friend ordered the Panang Curry with tofu and he said he really enjoyed it. I ordered the Hunan Tofu with brown rice and I also really loved it. I love that they bring out a complimentary starter salad before you order food. It has a really delicious peanut dressing. Very simple but very satisfying. The prices are also great. My friend and I had dinner for just over $20. I would recommend it and I would go back.

Went for New Year's Eve with a group of about 12/13 people. Our server was really pushing drinks other than coffee, tea or water but was attentive, although a bit flustered. For my main dinner, I had the Ellicott Roll ( several types of fish rolled in soy paper with MD crab meat in top) Peanut Avocado Roll and a Kampyo Roll. All were excellent! Trying to keep it light, I ordered a Michelob Ultra which confused the server- she kept saying they don't carry that while it was listed on the menu. The restaurant allowed for separate checks and that made life easier! The only thing I'd request is that low sodium soy sauce be available on the tables like most sushi restaurants do. Great variety of special rolls, sushi and Asian Fusion dishes for non- sushi fans. Will surely return!

I ordered spicy tuna, spicy salmon and and eel roll for lunch (look, I was hungry and was on break from an 8-hour pilates teacher training course!). I passed by the place on my way to my class and decided I'd stop during our break for lunch. I walked in and was promptly greeted. Asked if they did to-go/take out orders and he said yes. I asked for a menu and proceeded to order. The order took around 10 minutes and was on my way. Got to my place of grub and was surprised at the pink ginger (um, ginger is not pink). Did not eat. The spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls were tasty. The eel was really good. I also ordered a seaweed salad (VERY fresh and seaweed wasn't limp/non-firm). Whenever I am back in that area, I would actually stop back by to try the other rolls and items on their menu. The food was fresh and tasty.

The sushi rolls here were amazing! They were bigger and tasted much better than from other local restaurants that I typically visit for sushi. The lunch special was also a great deal! I highly suggest you get the Maryland Blue Crab Roll. It may be one of the best sushi rolls I have ever had! The decor and environment here were also great. Modern and casual with friendly wait staff. Our sushi rolls came quickly too, which is always a huge plus!

Ordered take-out and was pretty impressed. Their shrimp tempera roll is super huge but super delicious, the asparagus in it is really good too! It's a great combo of flavors. I also ordered a spicy yellowtail roll and a shrimp, cucumber, and avacado roll. The yellowtail roll wasn't amazing but decent- I also happen to be pretty picky about my yellowtail rolls ;). The shrimp, cucumber, and avacado roll was perfect. All-in-all, I would definitely come back to this place for the shrimp tempura roll and shrimp, cucumber and avacado roll bc their ingredients were super on point. I'd def recommend this place to someone, especially for lunch bc they have some pretty decent sushi deals!

This was my second time at East Moon, the first time I got some takeout for the fam, just vegetarian entrees no sushi. The meal was really good so I figured why not check out the sushi. A few weeks ago, I came here to pick up some sushi to go and oh how disappointing. My shrimp tempura roll was wayyy too big and was impossible to even eat with your fingers let alone a pair of chopsticks. It immediately fell apart. There was asparagus in it which wasn't mentioned in the description. My salmon nigiri was definitely not fresh. I will NEVER be back here for sushi, which is too bad cuz the ambience of the restaurant was pretty nice. There are so many better sushi restaurants in the area - don't bother with this place if you're craving sushi.

A nice place. This was the first time I've tried sushi and I liked it. I started with the Beef Drunken noodles. They call it medium spicy but I think that's just for wimpy Americans. It had a little zip but nothing too bad. I sampled 4 different kinds of sushi. Two I remember (Californian roll and shrimp tempura roll), and two I don't remember. They were all good. We also had the edamame and sake. I was nervous about trying sushi but it was all very tasty. I probably should learn how to use chopsticks if I go here again, which I probably will. Recommended.

I went here with a large group. The place reminds me of what you would picture as a typical Asian bistro. It has a lot of the standard Chinese fare on the menu. It clearly tries to be a little "hip" with its mood-lighting and trendy decorating. Everyone was served a small glass bowl of salad (mostly iceberg lettuce) with all bowls getting the same dressing (no choice). I personally enjoyed it, and I think it had some variant of a Thousand Island dressing. It was an unexpected nice touch. You have an option of either eating with typical silverware or chopsticks. I ordered the sesame chicken. The portion was plentiful, and the sauce wasn't too over-bearing. The chicken was a little crispy and tasted good. It wasn't too sweet, which is sometimes a problem with sesame chicken. The waitress was very nice and refilled our water and checked on us several times. I'm amazed that the staff members were able to sort out all of our individual orders and receipts. Impressive!

I love this place! It's less than half a mile from my house, so I order delivery or take out from them at least once a week. I've tried just about everything on the menu and never been disappointed, although my favorites are the Singapore rice noodles and chicken satay. The food is well-prepared and tasty, the staff and service are excellent, and I've never had a subpar experience. I'd also like to give a special shout to James who always seems to be answering the phones and everywhere at once in the restaurant. He is one hard-working and friendly guy!

The 'Royal Taj' of asian fusion food in Columbia..ha ha ha..NO !! The 1 star is for the hard working waitresses, the food gets a negative 5. We were a party of 4 and we shared 4 entrees and 4 appetizers between us. How do you so consistently make every item you ordered taste so bad? It truly takes a special cook who probably read culinary Sun Tzu to wage war on his dishes to prepare food so terrible that it was downright hilarious ! Fried tofu ? How does chunks of tofu in zero spiced or salted batter deep fried sound ? Or drunken noodles with exactly 6 strings of flat noodles and huge chunks of broccoli and tomato ? Care for some spicy panang ? Ordered it "extra spicy" and received the so called panang which was as spicy as the water i was drinking, and yup, comes accessorized with large tomatoes and brocollis ! And how does one manage to make spring rolls with no stuffing in it ?? Ladies and gents, i kid not, either the cook was on drugs or i am a marked man in this restaurant ! Even drunken elephants cannot drag me to this place again!

The only good thing about the place is the decor. Service is a 2 of 5. Our kid wasn't given utensils/napkin, so I grabbed them from another table. There were three other tables when we came in at 5:15ish and food took a long time to come. We ordered green curry with beef and it was the most bland green curry I've ever tasted. It was pretty overpriced for what it was. The sesame chicken was actually pretty good considering how a lot of the places do it around here. But the plating was half-ass, and weird. The rice was dumped into a weird shape on the same serving plate. I had to ask for two plates for my kid and I. Typically in Asian restaurants, it's about sharing and getting a bunch of dishes; here's it's very Americanized and cater the plating for one person. With this in mind, 12.50 for a serving that's not to be shared for Asian food is a bit much. The curry was served in a slanted bowl with rice served on a small plate with a spoon. Again, overkill. The crab in the spider roll was actually good, not mushy, but it wasn't wrapped that well. But I'm not going to take a chance on this place for either carryout or dining in moving forward. I' not going to risk wasting $12 on a hit or miss dish if we order 10 dishes, if half the dishes have no flavor, like the green curry dish. We tipped the waitress like 19%, wrote a note on the tab that it the green curry was very bland and peaced out. With how long it took for the food to come out, I'm not going to try to get them to fix it, or get a refund for it, if they are serving food like that. Too many options means horrible quality control and this is a perfect example of that.

I've dined here several times, but have never ordered sushi. Overall their chinese and thai dishes are good, but not great. You are going to find better pad thai and drunken noodles at a good thai restaurant. Their entrees are still good and the vegetables fresh. The sauces are a little on the bland side for my taste. My favorite dish is the moon harbor chicken - their hot and sour soup is very tasty.

I've never stepped foot in the restaurant, but I get delivery once or twice a week. They are amazingly fast with my deliveries. Maybe too fast for sushi rolls, but I try not to think about that. Food is so subjective, but I find their sushi to be some of the best I ever had. Their specialty rolls are great. As others have said, they are sometimes a bit large, but go ahead and use a fork to eat them. This is Amurica! Their Won-Ton soup is the best I have ever had. I've found all of their Chinese dishes to be the best I have ever had delivered. Their chicken Teriyaki is absolutely terrible. Avoid it at all costs. That's the only reason they get 4 stars instead of 5.

The food here is excellent! It's made with high-quality ingredients and expertly crafted. Every dish I tried was just as wonderful as the next! The shumai ($4.95) were perfectly steamed with a slightly sweet rice vinegar/soy sauce dipping sauce. And the California roll (with Tobiko per special requests, $5.95) was the best I've had in quite a while! I ordered the sesame scallops mild ($14.95), and they were delectable and perfectly cooked! The service was courteous, very fast, and attentive. Our server was very willing to accommodate special requests for items. The only odd thing is that they must be having plumbing problems (who isn't?). You cannot flush any toilet paper in the toilet, so there are small OPEN trash cans in the stalls with people's used toilet paper in them! My suggestion would be to get larger, kitchen-size trash cans with doors that can easily be opened and reclosed. All in all, the food was amazing, and I'll certainly go back and try more!

We've been there a couple of times, & only order Chinese, never sushi. As has happened before, I have to give them a mixed review. Service was very good; our server was not fluent in English, but another server kept watch over her & stepped in when ours had trouble understanding. Wonton soup was great, with flavorful vegetable broth & delicious wontons full of meat. The real problem we have here is the sauces on entrees; they are usually not described on the menu, & but are generally too sweet, too salty, AND have too much garlic. From now on, I plan to either get a definitive list of ingredients, or I'm going to ask them to stir fry the meal & serve without sauce. The basic food has always been good. The triple crown had excellent shrimp, scallops, & tender beef pieces, with nice vegetables. The lemon grass chicken was very good; really tender chicken but, oddly, it was spongy in texture. Entrees were large, & reasonably priced. I really want to like this place, I just have to figure out the sauce problem.

Their quality of service has really decreased since my last review. When we're the only ones in the restaurant, we expect to have some type of decent service. At least refill our water one time! Sheesh... We had to ask for more water. Twice. The food took almost 40 minutes to come out. I don't know why the service was so slow when we're the only ones in the restaurant. Maybe they had a bunch of take out orders? Or they're just getting settled down and needed to warm up? I try to give the benefit of a doubt to them. We did come right when they opened, so maybe that's why... I still enjoy eating their food. Got the Basil Chicken and Tonkatsu. They said the chicken is spicy, I told them I love spicy! But my gosh, I didn't know it was THAT spicy! After the first few bites I felt a bead of sweat slowly sliding down my cheek. I drank the whole cup of water (Terrible mistake) and my tongue just got hotter! I ate all of the rice, and still had more than half of my dish left. The first bite was really good, but after that, it was so spicy that I couldn't really enjoy and taste the potential of their dishes. It's like they put in concentrated habanero seeds in there or something! The Tonkatsu, Japanese style fried pork was delicious. The thin but crispy layer of fried batter and the thick but juicy pork ready to be devoured by my big hungry ass! Excuse the language. Their food is still good in my opinion, just gotta tell them to tone it down a bit with the spiciness. But their service has gone down so I'm gonna have to give this place a 3 star rating.

Food is decent. We've only ever order delivery or take-out so the service is more about phone and delivery. Service isn't great. Multiple times they have gotten the order wrong or forgotten something. The last time, I went and picked up food for the office because I needed to make a bank stop on the way. I asked if everything was in there, they double checked, yes. Okay. I get back to the office and we're missing three soups and salads as well as a curry dish. I call and tell them the issue and they tell me that A- The special rolls don't come with a soup and salad... it's on the menu that they do. B- They only put in the system for 1 curry dish... we had ordered two and the woman had repeated the order back to me over the phone. C- Did I want to come and get it.... no, you're coming to me this time. I made them fulfill the soup and salads that we were expecting to get because it's clearly stated on the menu that way. They also brought the second curry dish. They didn't seem too pleased, but then again neither was I. I'd go elsewhere for better service and food.

Too "Americanized" for my taste. I grabbed some take-out because I was in a pinch and it was the closest restaurant. The woman at the host stand was really sweet. The decor was kinda cool with high ceilings and a chic retro vibe. I ordered the kung pao tofu and asked for it as spicy as they could make it(I got the vibe that it was going to be providing zero heat otherwise). The woman that took my order offered a side of red pepper oil just in case it wasn't spicy enough which I thought was thoughtful. The dish was pretty bland and though it was covered in Thai red peppers, the peppers had no heat. For a vegetarian dish I thought it was lacking in veggies. I didn't hate it but I wouldn't go back. There are a lot of great authentic Asian restaurants in the area that I would prefer to go to. I think this place would work for folks that are looking for Asian cuisine but aren't really into authentic style.

They bring you out some salad with peanut butter dressing, which is just so mouth watering, I wanna keep ordering more. My wife and I were having some family over and visited our favorite Liquor Store on Dobbins road, Dobbins Liquors. We noticed the store owner (Keith) eating a rice noodle plate and asked him what it was. He provided us with a menu and said it was called a Vietnamese Rice noodle bowl which is a popular Noodle Bowl with Lettuce, Cucumber, Tomato, Bean Sprouts, Green Onions and crushed Peanuts, Served with chili-lime Sauce. You have a choice of meats or shrimp to add of you like. We later searched for East Moon online and discovered they had online ordering and delivery depending on your location. My wife ordered the rice bowl with shrimp and I ordered sesame chicken. I was not too thrilled with the chicken but loved how the rice bowl was prepared and seasoned. That has been our favorite dish from East Moon Asian Bistro. We also paid them a visit during the week and loved the ambiance and laid back atmosphere. There are many Asian restaurants in Columbia Md that provide good and great food; so far East Moon is on our great food list!

Surprisingly OK, as in, kind of good. I'd say it's competitive with Chopstixxx, Sushi Q or Katana, but maybe not Hunan Manor. Got a buddha's delight tofu dish and it was quite tasty; tofu was perfect texture and a good mix of vegetables. California roll there was decent. Got the fantasy roll--quite good and generous helping of maryland crab on top. Pad thai was thick, flat noodles with a strong lemongrassy taste. Not so thrilled w/ any chicken dishes though-seems to be a rough, rubbery texture. Might avoid chicken dishes. Chopstixxx wins in this department--their chicken is soft, white, and tender. Friend went there w/ her grandpa, they only applied the senior discount to her grandpa's dishes and not the whole check. However, I should balance it out by saying that I went with a Groupon, and really wanted to just take it back to the house. At first, they said it has to be dine-in, so we agreed that I'll show up, sit down and eat 1 bite and they can pack it up to go. By the time I got there (which is like, 1 min later) they had worked out a solution--adding $1 to each dish and bypassing the dine-in requirement--that worked for me and I was pleased with how they quickly worked something out. Got the sesame tofu (alright) and the "taste of siam" The last dish looked weird as it was pieces of grilled scallop, shrimp, and sea bass, and then a whole eggplant encased with fried dough. But the scallop was surprisingly big (more than quarter sized) and the shrimp was nicely deveined. Sea bass was fragrant. Most of all, the thai curry sauce that came with the dish was A+. We used it for other things later on... Overall, I'm glad we have a viable option for Asian food so close to our house for those nights when you don't have time to deal w/ food prep.

I really love this place. I go for the sushi, and it never disappoints. Tonight, I got the sashimi platter, and it was presented so beautifully. Also, delicious. So delicious. I like the dressing on the salad, its got a good peanutty-ness to it. Makes the iceberg lettuce slightly more exciting. The Miso soup is chock full of seaweed and tofu, and really good. The service has always been excellent, and I highly recommend it to anyone.

It might have been a mistake to go with Chinese instead of sushi but there's no way their sushi could be better than J&Y. Things started well with a decent Crab Rangoon but it went downhill from there. The Vietnamese egg rolls were just odd. I'm not sure what they were seasoned with but they didn't taste like anything Vietnamese I've ever eaten. My Mongolian Beef was too sweet and not at all spicy. The sauce was so watery it turned my rice into soup. The Taste of Siam was an odd combination of things that didn't go together at all. The tempura shrimp, scallops, and sea bass were well cooked but boring. The eggplant was also well cooked but bizarre. An entire eggplant was cut into strips but left connected at the stem then they deep fried the whole thing. All of this was served with a weak peanut sauce that had almost no seasoning. Overall, the meal was uninspired and disappointing. With so many other Asian options in the area, there's no reason to go here again.

I went here when the location first opened because of it's convienient location and the fact that they sent me a couponin the mail. Since then I've been here a handful of times. I even took my parents and my dad enjoyed the Crispy duck. The restaurant is in a great neighborhood, has nice decor, friendly staff, and I love that they serve sushi as well. The food is ok. For carry out orders, I like how they put the sauce in a separate container so that you're able to dip or pour it on the food. (That's what they did when I ordered the General Tso chicken.) Overall, decent Chinese food for a reasonable price.

We dined in once and had take out once, and we were pretty pleased both times. The first time I had sushi, which was alright. Not the best sushi in the EC/Columbia area, but no complaints. The second time I had the Kung Pao Tofu, which was really yummy. They have a great vegetarian menu that substitutes tofu for meat in many popular dishes. I sampled the drunken noodles and thought those were yummy too. Some people are bashing the decor. I think it's cute. Sure the artwork might be straight off the wall at Bed Bath and Beyond, but it's colorful and spacious. I think it looks clean inside.

Reading through all the reviews I am truly shocked at how many people think that the food tastes bad. My husband and I love chinese take out and always tried different places until we settled on one that seemed best to us... until we tried this place. SO GOOD! The food tastes fresh, light and flavorfull. Our favorite is the Chicken Basil an the Triple Delight. Our son loves the Broccoli chicken. The chicken satay is great as well... the chicken on it is actual thick chunks of real chicken, not the fatty breast meat you get in most Take Outs. I did notice that many of the employees do not speak english very well and have also been told that the service when dining in is not great. We never ate in, we always get take out... most of the time pick it up. I had it delivered once an the delivery person appeared pretty rude, but in the end I didn't care as the food was great as always and we had it in a matter of 20 minutes DELIVERED!

EastMoon is our go to sushi spot and we eat here at least once a week. It isn't the best sushi in the are but the atmosphere and expansive menu make up for it. We are able to hit all of our cravings in one spot. The Redskin and MD roll are the best. The service could use some help but that's the only complaint.

Give it a chance. Yes, I think they're still ironing out some service issues. The hostess, while perfectly polite, was dressed as if she just walked in from hanging out with friends at the mall (meaning, a bit too casual). The provision of plates, beverages, etc. had a less "here, let me attend to you" feel than a just plain ol' "Here." feel. We sat at the sushi bar, and the chefs appeared to be rockin' out their rolls. The presentation for larger selections (like the massive serves-2 platter we ordered) was lovely (albeit, as noted by Sean L., on a very big plate). And the fish was fresh and delicious. What else matters for sushi, really? The selection was a bit dull, but I would imagine that's to accommodate most people's less....adventurous tastes. The chef's eyes almost popped out in surprise when I commented that my favorite piece on the plate was the octopus (not the perfectly good but predictable rainbow roll, complete with krab-with-a-K). My husband ordered the chicken and coconut soup, which he described as just okay and not very coconutty. But seeing that I wasn't having a hot appetizer, the sushi chef gave (and I mean "gave") me a plate of tempura white fish. I don't usually like tempura, but this could change my mind. It was very, very light and not at all greasy. Decor is uber-hip--somewhat anachronistically so, given its strip-mall location. Although this is, after all, a Columbia strip-mall, so it's fashioned to be prettier than one might find on Route Whatever.

So when you pull up to a "hip" and "new" Chinese bistro at 9:45 on a Saturday night in a bustling town like Columbia and it is DEAD EMPTY, do you go in? Do you walk away? Well I would recommend walking away, now that we made the mistake of walking in. Lots of comments here about rude service, we did not have that experience. In fact since it was DEAD SLOW we were probably over-served, you know when someone drives by every 2 minutes to ask you AGAIN if you are done with that plate of Edamame that you were NOT done with two minutes earlier. Yes, that over-served!! Others have mentioned the chicken and they are right. At first I thought the satay was perhaps with dark meat, but it looks white-ish. But it is rubbery and gristly! So odd for white chicken, don't get anything chicken. The sushi rolls set off an alarm when they came way to fast for 3 specialty rolls and 2 standard rolls. And they are HUGE, too big in fact. A layer of fish or eggs on top of a roll should add a little flair, not be 1/2 an inch thick, gross!! They should have spent about $75000 less on decor and opening costs and focused on the FOOD FOOD FOOD. It is a restaurant, food first-I say drive by and head to Sushi King on Dobbin Road, we will next time!!

I used to live down the street from East Moon, and I ate here a few times a month. Generally, I like it very much. It is better to go before 3pm, while "lunch" is still going on...all of the plates are a few bucks cheaper. For under $10, you get a gigantic portion of food, of which you will be taking home half...pretty good deal. On Fridays evenings there is a sushi happy hour, with a few bucks off of sushi rolls, that is a pretty good deal too. Service is generally VERY quick (although I have had a few exceptions over the past year), and has been excellent every time except once (again, I have eaten here ~20 times). The staff aren't too engaging, but I don't really view that as a problem...it seems many do not speak English well. The inside of the restaurant is modern and clean. There is also hot sake available and a decent selection of Asian beers. Good place for a date at the sushi bar, the rest of the restaurant is a little open feeling and not very intimate.

Yippeeee! EMB delivers and it's fast and fresh. Called on my way home (I know I'm not the only one who does that lol) and they actually made it to my front door as I was pulling into my driveway. We got a couple of sushi rolls (spicy shrimp and shrimp tempura) and they were huge. They have some cool variety of flavors I may not have imagined together (asparagus with the tempura roll) but tastes absolutely mouth-watering. I want to try them all eventually. The potstickers were just the right amount of crispy on the outside and soft, pillowy on the inside. EMB is at the top of the list now that their food is only a phone call away!

Love this place! They offer sushi lunch specials almost every day and I've never had a bad meal. The only problem is that the servers don't speak English very well. I asked the server if they had butterscotch schnapps and after a couple minutes of her trying to understand what I was saying, I finally had to write it out on a piece of a paper. She returned saying they didn't have it. I was kind of surprised considering they have a full bar so maybe no one could understand what I meant. If they would hire some English speaking servers, I would have given them five stars. The main point of a server's job is to talk to the guests, why would you employ a staff that can't?

For Columbia this place has really good sushi for a pretty decent price. I've never been there, but their delivery is fast. I usually order the spicy salmon roll, steamed pork dumplings (which are the best I've had in the US), and chicken fried rice. I've ordered other things from there, but I've learned it's best to stick with the basics. The only downside about this place in their miso soup which they really water down. Otherwise...for Columbia it's pretty good.

East Moon Bistro has a pretty decent lunch special where you can get two or three select sushi rolls, soup, and salad. I have always had good food from this restaurant, but I think it is overpriced. A handful of my co-workers have felt ill after eating at this restaurant (on different days) so it has swayed me from frequenting it too often. Just a note: this East Moon Bistro is unrelated to the location in Bowie.

Just had lunch there...and I've never left sushi on my plate when I was still hungry, until today. The miso is still not good, and the sushi had zero taste. It's not on my "never again" list, but if my next visit is bad it will be. Shame too, because the first two visits were pretty ok. Just went here on a business lunch last week with colleagues. From the time we entered and throughout the hour and a half we were there, the place was dead. This should have tipped me off that this wasn't the best place to eat, but hey, when my meal is being paid for by someone else, I don't complain. First off the decor is really... interesting. When we walked in, I wasn't sure if we'd entered a restaurant or a nightclub. After being seated, we started off ordering a wide variety of sushi (at least 10-12 different rolls). It all came out on one huge platter which was rather annoying as we had ordered some rolls that we've never had before, making it difficult to identify which were which. Our server, although nice and attentive enough, also was not sure. Additionally, as a ganish to the platter, they filled a cocktail glass with those flashing LED plastic ice cubes, which we found to be both odd & highly amusing. The sushi itself was meh. I've had much better but at least it didn't make me sick, and it came with enough wasabi and pickled ginger for everyone. For my main dish, I ordered the Sea Bass in Black Bean Sauce. This also came with a helping of veg fried rice. It came out fairly promptly, looked fairly well presented, and the fish was cooked properly. However, the food was the most blandest Chinese food I've ever eaten. And I mean bland, like nursing home bland. At first I thought it might just be my dish, but alas, all of our dishes were afflicted by lack of flavor... boo. As for the service, we had no problem being seated right away, I never had to ask for a drink refill, and the bill was brought promptly so we could get out when we needed to. From previous reviews, I noticed people complaining about the service but I personally found the service to be spot on. All in all, if you want to go out for sushi in Columbia, Sushi King on Dobbin Rd. and Sushi Sono by the mall are better bets. And Hunan Manor on Deepage Dr. has way better Chinese food.

I went to dinner here last night with my family. The food was pretty good, as was the presentation. What really threw the entire experience off for me was the service. We ordered drinks from the bar, which didn't come to the table until I reminded the waitress about them AFTER we had finished our appetizers. The drinks were just sitting at the bar, having been made a while before. The same happened again with our food: my entree arrived (after waiting a good long while) and we had to ask where my daughter's and husband's sushi rolls were. Again, they were sitting, ready made, at the sushi bar. Considering the price that we paid, I would expect MUCH more attentive service, which is a shame considering what a great location the restaurant is. I might order take-out, but I would probaly not eat another sit-down meal here.

I frequent here for their take out sushi & crab rangoon. My boyfriend is obsessed with their General Tso's chicken. They have the FASTEST service.. if you get delivery, you literally have your food in 15-20 minutes. I've only dined in twice... the first time I sat at the sushi bar and my service was AMAZING. We felt like we were being treated as though we were royalty. When we sat down, they immediately waited on us and brought us our edamame. Then, the sushi bar guys handed us each this ahi tuna bowl mixed with veggies that we didn't order. They said "on the house". What a pleasant surprise and it was tasty! We ordered 3 types of rolls and they came out quickly and were delicious (favorite is MD blue crab roll). Then when we asked for the check, they brought out a slice of cake that we hadn't ordered. Another "on the house!". I couldn't believe how amazingly they treated us. Luckily we live super close and can walk there... because this is my favorite spot in town!

I went again at the request of my wife. The service was still horrible. They brought out our appetizer and sushi and we had to wait 5 minutes to ask for plates because they seem to like dropping off food and running very fast. They filled my daughters water glass once but neglected everyone else's drink. The food was good but the service really stunk. It seems they have no idea on how to run a restaurant. I will not be returning for a third time.

Good food! I've been back twice since the first time I was here. The sushi there is very good, not what you would expect from a place that does such a wide variety of dishes, but they put as much effort into the sushi as other sushi restaurants in the area. The entrees are good as well, I mainly get the sushi but people I've been with have gotten dishes off the main menu. The menu does not disappoint! Definitely stop by!

We were only people in restaurant yet waitress had serious attitude problem. Maybe it was because I asked her to let me have the lunch portions at 3:30pm-- she said no. Food : below average. Green curry with chicken --bad! Chicken tasted rubbery and didn't looked cooked. Thai spicy soup not spicy nor seasoned. Coconut shrimp tasted like it was lean cuisine prepackaged frozen. Peanut curry with beef tasted bland. Waitress got mad when I asked her to take back the spring rolls. When I asked her for more green tea, instead of bringing me a new cup she took my existing cup in a back room. Place decorated nicely but manners and food are a big ZERO.

I went here with my mother for the first time on a Tuesday evening, so it was pretty empty. Overall, the service was okay, but they were a little slow to refill our water, bring the check, etc. We ordered the Toyko roll, Pad Thai and an order of edamame. The edamame took a long time to come out, practically at the same time as our food. It was also a very small dish, which at $6, came as a surprise to me. The Tokyo Roll came out next. It was okay, nothing was wrong with it, but nothing to write home about either. The Pad Thai came out as we were eating our sushi, and I was pretty disappointed. There was way too much sauce, with a puddle forming in the bottom of the dish. The chicken also had a strange sponge-like consistency, which we didn't enjoy. Last, pad thai generally has chopped peanuts as a topping and ours didn't come with any. I would still like to go back for a second visit, as they haven't been open too long and every new restaurant has improvements to make.

Big plates--little flavor. Straight-up rude servers. Forget about refills on your drinks. Forget about getting chopsticks. We sampled from all over the menu--nothing above 2 stars. Sushi--bland, loosely wrapped, kind of smelly--stay away! They sell better sushi at the Foodlion. Drunken Noodles--worst we've ever had (try Thai Aroma for decent Drunken Noodles). Basil Chicken--beyond gross. Shrimp Shumai--boiled not steamed and the most disgusting strong fishy taste and horrible texture. Bad dinner overall. Plus the place was kind of dirty, got a shot of the kitchen on the way back from the men's room--looked bad, food all over the floor etc. Our favorite part? The decor...My partner said "this place is like being inside of Max Headroom's head". The colors sort of looked like a comic book--this place is a train wreck!

The bar was inviting and the restaurant decor was Art Deco. The atmosphere felt rushed-it was a Friday night and everyone just bought their living social discounts. We started with a complimentary salad that was literally shoved over to us. Then no one returned for a good 10 minutes while we sat waiting for utensils/chopsticks. We started with the tsunami roll which was very good. Eventually we got drinks and ordered our main courses. We had the basil shrimp with vegetables and minced chicken. Both were good and in the $12-14 price range. We thought the service was sketchy and the food was good (thus the 3 stars). Nothing spectacular. Would probably choose Jesse Wong's Asian Bistro-down the road, if we had to pick the better quality food. We wanted to try out this restaurant for a while and were glad we had the LS discount...

Definitely do not come here for any of the entree dishes. Terrible, bland, poor quality... like really bad fatty meat and horribly tasteless sauces. As far as sushi goes, this is clearly not the place to go for *good* sushi. That said, they have some ok rolls. I somewhat like the Christmas roll, which is salmon, tuna, and avocado for $6 I think. Don't get the sashimi or nigiri though... just not worth the price. Anyway, if you live nearby, they do deliver, but don't go here looking for anything special. Do not under any circumstances order anything with meat in it.

We dined here on a Saturday for lunch. I had a California roll and a cucumber avocado roll--both were delicious, as was the hot and sour soup. Our server was very attentive, the portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. The food was attractively presented and seemed very fresh. Everyone in our party enjoyed the decor--it's a little unusual, but the changing colored lights kept the kids entertained.

We've been to East Moon three times, now. I can't speak for all of their Asian cuisines. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Asian fusion places because the sushi is rarely good quality. We've only had the sushi at East Moon and it is very good. The portions are a good size and the presentation is beautiful and served family-style. The atmosphere is modern and seems to be a great place to bring the family. I still give Yama Sushi and Sushi Sono an edge for quality and having an intimate setting, but East Moon's sushi is very good and priced well, especially for coming with groups. Will be back soon!

This is my new favorite sushi place! Don't let the typical suburban exterior fool you, the interior looks like its a down-town, high-end sushi joint! The atmosphere is great! I've been there a couple of times with large groups, and I can't say that it isn't the restaurant's strong point accommodating large parties, but over all the food was great!

The food was on point! I got the sesame tofu with brown rice, the tofu had great texture and it was crispy. The sauce was sweet but spicy, yum. My husband got the basil fried rice, again yummy. And our friends got the panang curry and drunken noodles, all good choices! The vegetarian dumplings and avacado rolls were great too! We'll be back :)

Jenny the bar tender was great! You have to try the chicken satay appetizer and the Hawaii dragon roll. Both were amazing! Best Asian food in Howard County.

Average dining experience, but I find it hard to find great Asian food in the Columbia area. The sushi was tasty. I enjoyed the peanut avocado sushi quite a bit. However, the rest of the food was edible but not the best. The noodles were very dry. The green curry was white (odd). At least the sesame tofu was flavorful. If someone were to suggest eating here, I'd groan and hope they'd change their mind. But I'd eventually give in if they insisted, purely for the sushi.

Very lovely restaurant! We tried the chicken tempura. Chicken was tender and it arrived with broccoli, green pepper, mushrooms, onion rings and sweet potato all cooked in a delightful tempura batter.

We had a family gathering on a Sunday (early afternoon). The service was about as bad as I have ever seen. Very rude .... almost to the point that it seemed like the servers did not want us there wasting their time. The so called full bar was a joke. We requested a bloody mary, but they did not know how to make it. We requested a non alcohlic beer (o'douls) which was on the menu, and they did not have it. As far as the food goes, it was very bad.... I highly recommend not wasting time at this place.

It would have been great to have a good sushi place close by - however this isn't it. We ordered take out from here three times, the first time (right after they opened) was good, sushi was decent and the couple of apps we ordered were ok also. The second time they massively screwed up our order (all a la carte sashimi was sent out as nigiri, wrong entrees, etc). We decided to give them a final chance and my husband found broken glass in his rice ! I assumed that they don't cook rice to order and called the restaurant to let them know about this so that someone wouldn't get seriously hurt. The manager was pretty relaxed about the whole thing - not nearly as horrified as you might think. That combined with the food not being very good makes this a place to avoid.

The restaurant itself is spacious, clean, cutely decorated and in a good location but the food was just average. The Udon noodle dish we ordered was good, but the Chicken Teriyaki my husband ordered was pretty bland. He didn't even finish it which is unusual. My brothers ordered the green and panang curries. They were good but the sauce was thicker than I've had from Thai mom's cooking throughout the years and I'm not sure I like the thicker style. I don't think any of us were impressed enough to come back and try their sushi.
