This place is fantastic. It's tucked away in a corner of a strip mall but it is a gem. We got the sexy jalapeños and they are so so good it's an upgraded popper. All of the rolls we ordered are so tasty. We ordered the sweetheart, starship, spicy tuna (the best I have ever had), philly, Alaska and California rolls. The philly roll has a very strong flavour I think they use smoked salmon in it. So much yum. We will be coming back for sure!

Pricey, but delicious. Their veggie pad thai with fried tofu is to die for!!! Normally, I wouldn't order pad thai from a non-Thai restaurant, but Ashley recommended it and I'm so glad I did. The salad could use some work, the mixed greens didn't seem too fresh and I've had better dressing elsewhere. :3 Despite the awkward location, try it out if you're in the area. The sushi is fresh and the service is also great. Make sure to ask for Ashley! She is THE BEST.

Katana was good, not great. On the up side, the service was very friendly and they were extremely kid friendly (great fish tank). On the down side, the sushi is good but extremely expensive for not being great. You can eat at Sushi King, Sushi Sono and Sushi Nari for cheaper and probably enjoy the quality a bit more. For example, the salmon was outstanding but the tuna was much less flavorful and lacked color. They also serve Chinese Food, but the wonton soup was extremely average. If they lowered some of their prices, this could be a more desirable location.

4.5/5 Aw shucks now! I think I may have found my go to spot for spot on bangarang, yummy sushi. After checking Yelp, thee broham and I decided to try a new spot. Neither of us wanted to go downtown, so we ended up here. It is located in an unassuming strip mall in HoCo. There is signage indicating its location in the strip mall, but you can't necessarily see it from the street. I mean the restaurant is facing a gas station. There are other restaurants in the strip too, it was next to an Italian place. Interior, was inviting, enough tables in this quaint establishment, big ol fish tank and a nice sushi bar with a couple of tables for the duos. The sushi bar had several types of saki lining it in addition to candles, it was just hmmmm comfy like zen even. Okay for the part that matters, the food. So I almost always get the rainbow roll to try at every place and some sort of salmon. Each were awesome, fresh and beautifully made. The broham and I decided to try two new things, the ninja roll, and the crazy spider. The ninja had tuna eel, salmon and whole lot of stuff, the crazy spider was just a spider roll with some additions to it. Either way, everything that I tasted was on point. Now just to add some fuel to this fatty's fire, I had to try the deep fried oreos, I mean why wouldn't I? Doesn't it just sound like flippin heaven? Oh it was. Just thinking about it now, makes me what to pull out my fry daddy and experiment! Service was good, everyone was quite helpful with any question/concerns. The prices were a little higher than what I am used to, but honeslty, it was worth it in the end. I say try it out.

It's a clean Chinese/Sushi place with good service. (That's all good about it) I ordered Beef Lo Mein with double meat. I paid $16.95!!!! When I ordered I asked the server I want it with low oil because I do not want it to be greasy! The food was ready less than 10 min. But it was way too greasy and oily the double meat I requested seemed normal not much of meat! I couldn't finish my food because of being too greasy! I am glad I asked for low oil and being less greasy otherwise my food would have been greasy greasy and looks like it soup!

I almost don't want to write a review for Katana because it is still a bit of a hidden gem in Howard County and I am worried it will be hard to get a seat if they get too popular! However, we love this place! We've been steady patrons since the day it opened. My wife and I are picky about our sushi and Katana never lets us down. The fish is always excellent. I always get the Chirashi (chef's selection of the freshest cuts of various fish) and it is consistently great and is never the same selection twice. My kids are also always satisfied. The chefs are happy to make them their custom shrimp tempura rolls with pink soy paper. The staff is always super-friendly and the owner is always present. In fact the other night we were surprised that he was not there but then he came over to say hello and said that he had been working in the kitchen. I think that pretty much sums up his dedication to the quality of the restaurant. He is very involved in every aspect. He is also always improving upon the truly glorious salt-water, tropical fish tank which is the centerpiece of the restaurant. The only reservation I have about Katana is that it is a bit pricey, even for sushi. But I have never left the place feeling ripped off.

This was our first time coming here and is probably the best sushi place I have found near me. The hostess was very friendly and the waitresses were even more friendly and attentive. There were so many sushi roll options we couldn't choose! We decided to go with the hot hot roll, koto roll (a must try!), white river roll, sashimi (octopus, salmon, surf clam) and salmon roe sushi. We waited, expecting to get some soup & salad, but nothing came out before the sushi. We are so used to getting miso soup and salad as part of our order (complimentary); however, you have to order it separately. When the sushi came out I was a little surprised that the sashimi order came out with only 2 pieces per order BUT these pieces were about double what we were used to getting. Each slice of sashimi was thick and fresh. I was also a little disappointed that the salmon roe sushi was about half of what you usually get and slightly more expensive than most places; however, it was very good and not too salty. The rolls themselves were very good. This is definitely a must try and will most likely become my go-to sushi place when I'm in the area.

Best sushi in the Baltimore, Columbia area! Deliciously tasty! Artistically presented! Reasonably priced! Love it!

Checked in to this place two times. Both times were great! I'm usually skeptical when it comes to nice looking restaurants that are very clean and elegant looking (especially with that very awesome fish tank) because it usually means their food is not that great, but I was wrong. Their food was awesome. It's not top-notch or anything mind blowing but it was still delicious!! _______ The Service: Wonderful service. The waitresses there are very sweet and very kind. They're also quite informative, so never be afraid of asking questions! One even was kind enough to make suggestions on nice places to visit in Maryland for someone who's from the opposite coast! Thank you very much kind Asian sister from another mister. _______ The Atmosphere: It's not SUPER fancy but I consider it quite elegant and a bit fancy there. Nice relaxed atmosphere but also fit for dates if you wanna bring your date there. I usually categorize places that don't have a lot of light as a somewhat fancy place because it gives off that evening feel even in the brightest of daylight cause of all the shutters and the polished dark wood. They keep it real clean there. The second time we were there they were cleaning up every nook and cranny of the place and they apologized for the mess of chairs and tables all over the place in the middle of cleaning, which was perfectly fine by us because it shows how clean they like their place to be. _______ The Food: The rolls were yummy and fresh. Delicious sauces and a nice collection of flavors on a sushi boat (or plate...depends on how much you order!) Their special rolls have funny names. They remind me of Ike's Place sandwich names. The one we ordered was called the butterfly roll without spicy mayo (because I'm allergic to spicy foods) and it was a mouth full of deliciousness. I loved every bit of it. It made my brain a little too happy that it thought it was full after 2 slices from the roll. All of the other sushi rolls such as the Boston roll, Alaskan roll and so on were refreshingly yummy. They tasted very fresh but still had some nice flavors even without a dab of soy sauce. My boyfriend enjoyed his spicy rolls as well and ordered two rolls of them! _______ Other Comments: We hope this business stays around for awhile because its a special place that I will remember every time I go back to Maryland. So you have my vote Katana sushi and I'll see you again!

Very tidy restaurant that has great service. The sushi was pretty good and they had tons of different special rolls. We ordered spicy salmon rolls and the sunrise roll - yum!

The establishment is a Chinese-Sushi hybrid located in a small shopping center. The place is clean, the décor is simple and not overbearing and fish was fresh. The staff is friendly and service was good. I have never ordered any of the Chinese food the two times I've been there, but my significant other loves their general tso's chicken. I stick with sushi and sashimi. As a New Yorker, I must say that their special rolls are a bit on the pricey, as some were more expensive than special rolls in a big city like New York. If you're looking for a quick Chinese or sushi spot, I'd give it a shot. :)

I've been here twice, and I love it here. The atmosphere is more laid-back than some of the other sushi places in the area, but the caveat is you can also end up stuck next to some screaming kids/loud adults when you're trying to have a date night. I've tried a bunch of their rolls, and they're all outstanding. There's one ridiculous roll that has shrimp tempura inside and steak on the out side that might be my spirit animal and brought us back for the second time (called the power roll maybe?). Get the stuffed jalapeno appetizer! Delicious. You should not get the deep fried oreo dessert because It ruins all other deserts forever. The server dropped it off, went back to the kitchen, and shortly after reappeared and I told her I had no idea what had happened, but someone had mysteriously shoved the entire thing in my face and left no trace of it behind. But seriously, damn. That's some dangerously good stuff.

The place was very clean and sushi was very very fresh the staff was very nice and helpful would go back there anytime .they don't deck out the plates but what is important is the food on it

This likely the best sushi we've found near our house. It's hidden away in a small shopping center but is worth the find! The fish is always fresh, the presentation beautiful, and the fish to rice ratio can't be beat! They do carry out as well, which is key to getting your sushi fix with a cranky teething 9 month old. BUT do keep in mind that they charge full price on carry out so don't expect to get special prices.

I ordered the Starship Roll with jalapenos, strawberries, tuna and salmon. Surprisingly, it was really really good! However, the portion was very small for the price. The decor was not bad, it was very clean and the service was good. I just don't think I would be returning to this place.

Katana is near my house and I like calling ahead to pick up a few rolls as an occasional treat. The team that works at Katana is always extremely friendly. Food is always ready quickly, it's always right, and it's always good. I've dined in a few times and the atmosphere is great. There is a sushi bar and a general dining area near a colorful fish tank. I generally just get some regular rolls, but when I've eaten here with family and friends, they have ordered and enjoyed the special rolls. Bento box order is also a good portion of good food.

Best sushi in the area, always accommodating and fresh. The out of control roll is my absolute favorite but I have never ordered anything here I didn't enjoy trying. It's a little pricey but you get what you pay for with good sushi. The waitstaff is always pleasant. Recommend it to everyone in the Baltimore area!

Solid sushi, despite the strip mall locale. Interior: warm + inviting. There's the requisite fish tank near the sushi bar. Menu: everything you'd expect and then some. The list of specialty rolls is quite extensive. There's a "special maki" list in the regular menu and two separate other lists - the "chef's specials" and "daily specials". It gets confusing as many of the rolls are similar to one another. The names here are particularly fun - including "Tuna Amazing", "Japanese Lasagna" and "Victoria's Secret". App: the person I was with ordered something called the "Sexy Jalapeno" to start. It's essentially a Japanese take on the jalapeno popper - it's 1/2 of a pepper filled with tuna, cream cheese and other stuff. Delicious. Also entertaining to hear our server ask "Sir, how's your Sexy Jalapeno?" Rolls: we tried 3-4 of the specialty maki including the Tuna Amazing (apparently, it was), the Crunch, the Phoenix and (I couldn't resist because Sushi = Underwear?) the Victoria's Secret. The last was my favorite, very possibly because it came wrapped in pink soy paper instead of seaweed. Everything was fresh, well presented and tasty and I really appreciated that they didn't drown my rolls in the ubiquitous "spicy mayo" sauce. Portions are large, so consider ordering less than you might elsewhere. Service: great! The staff here was super, super friendly - from the sushi chefs who were joking around with customers to the servers who checked on us frequently. Was everything I had authentic? No way - especially not the Sexy Jalapeno. But it was all tasty and the staff was welcoming, so we left happy.

After seeing bad yelp reviews for a closer sushi place to our home my husband and I ventured the additional two miles here. We made a very good choice. Sushi was great and we learned from the manager/owner, Nancy, that they also make Thai food....Our. favorite. We ordered too much but had some leftovers to take home. Service was quick and people there very friendly. Place is clean and cozy. I spent time staring at the fish tank...I love that sushi places have these...ironic.

Every single time I've come here, the service was marvelous and their food was outstanding. Our water has been refilled consistently on time. We had 2 waitresses and they were very attentive and prompt. Always asking if we're okay or if I wanted my hot tea refilled. We started off with a Spicy Tuna Tartare for an appetizer and it was delicious. The textures went really well together from the little crispy crumbs to the fluffy, fresh raw tuna melded in with seasonings, spices and some sweet sauce. I went to an upscale steak house in California called Mastro's steakhouse, and their Tuna Tartare wasn't even close to this. I got 4 rolls. Yes 4, I'm fat shaddup. Hehe, I got the tuna and salmon rolls with the crispy tuna and salmon rolls. My brother got the Sushi and Sashimi Deluxe. What I really appreciated was that our waitress informed us that there was only 1 Sushi Chef at the moment so our orders will take a little longer than expected. Most restaurants don't tell you that; at least from my own experiences. But the fact that she told us, I would know not to expect it to come out faster. Very nice. The food? If I died while eating that food, you'd see a huge smile on my face. After we devoured our food, the waitress asked us if we would like some dessert and before we could really reply, she informed us that they had 2 new desserts that aren't even on their menus yet! Fried oreos and fried cheesecake! My brother was full and I was too, but those sounded sooo good that I had to order them! The fried oreos were just spectacular! I've had fried oreos in other places but this place beats it by a mile because you could tell that their ice cream wasn't freezer burned like all the other places (Aside from El Hidalgo) and the fried oreos were fresh off the fryer. When you bite into the oreo, you feel the crunchy texture of the fried batter then the hot oreo literally melting in your mouth and with the cold vanilla ice cream perfectly balances out the temperature and texture of the rest of the dish. The fried cheesecake? I really liked that too. The only problem with that is, it's hot and there's nothing to cool you down when eating it. I took some pictures of what we ate so you should check them out. Like right when you read this.... Like now. Right now. As soon as possible. GO! Favorite sushi and sashimi restaurant!

My husband and I have been here often and I will tell u we have never had anything we did not like. We try something new every time and we are always please with how fresh and flavorful the sushi is. This is the best sushi spot that we have found so far in Howard County. If you are sushi lover this place is a must. The staff and owners are always friendly and helpful with sushi selection. Love love love this place !!

It was good, but extremely over priced. $15 for a roll of sushi on the Chef's specials is a bit much. The service was flawless. The restaurant is clean. The atmosphere is nice and cozy. I'll go back, but will stick to the basics and see how it goes.

I went here only because the Mexican place in the strip mall was closed. This place was such a let down. The place is very cute inside. They weren't ready even though it was a little past 11...they open at 11. So be ready for customers like me who want to grab lunch before heading to work. The hot and sour was first. Not great, not awful. It had a strong meat smell and tasted mostly of salt. The let down was the lunch combo. I ordered the shrimp teriyaki box. 4 pieces of shrimp for $11.50. What a rip off. What a let down. I boycott this place. $4 frozen, nasty tasting shrimp. Seriously it was awful shrimp. It came with a tiny scoop of rice, 2 tiny shumai, and a mediocre salad with vomit looking dressing. My friend had the pad thai. It was dark brown. I have never seen pad thai that was dark brown. It tasted off and the noodles were not what is normally used. Then again we were at some weird Asian fusion that failed miserably. I'm seriously angry at this place. It sucks!

First time I went I thought it was really good. Second time I went I thought it was even better. Third time I went I thought it was the best sushi I had ever had. Fresh, clean, truly bursting with flavor. I prefer the simple rolls and sashimi but everything I had was top notch. Give it a try. Only reason for 4 stars is for some reason I cant leave there without spending a lot of money. The special rolls are a little expensive compared to other places I have been.

Sushi is always delicious and presented to us in a beautiful display. I always get the specialty rolls. The sweetheart roll, green sky and rainbow roll are my favorite. I have never tried any other dish other than sushi but my friend got the sesame tuna meal and it was not good. The tuna had a very bland taste even though it was doused in a syrupy sauce. I love this place!

Just adding on a few other dishes tried since then: -salmon bento box: I didn't order this but I WISH I had--I mean wow, it came with at 6 california rolls, 2 shumai, fresh looking veggies and a ball of rice next to the ample chunk of beautifully grilled salmon with the grill marks visible under a dusting of sesame seeds. -flaming volcano: I was able to get both scallops and shrimp for the price of $17 and it presented very nicely. Tasted a bit on the sweet side for me, but was overall quite good. The shrimp was almost there--I saw a bit of the vein still hanging in there. Scallops were about quarter-sized, a bit tough. Overall, pretty good but a bigger portion for the price would've been better!

Great atmosphere inside and fantastic sushi. Seems authentic. They have a wonderful fish tank as a centerpiece inside. I recommend the Sunrise roll and Yamato roll. Went here for valentine's day and we received a complimentary chocolate covered strawberry for dessert.

Officially my fave place in the area for sushi! Everything is so fresh! We had the Crazy Dragon Roll, Butterfly Roll, Koto Roll and seaweed salad so amazing we have also had the wasabi shu mai as an appetizer and it was a great burst of flavor! They always give you a piece of chocolate covered fruit at the end which is always a treat!

Best sushi and service I've had with sushi since I've moved here. I've tried a lot of places from Miami, FL to San Francisco, CA and this is by far my top 2nd sushi place to eat at, my first being in FL. This place is delicious and when I asked the server to surprise me with what I liked she couldn't have done better!!

We love this place. Food is fantastic. Selection is great. Service is wonderful. Environment is very nice. And it's only about a mile from our house. Only problems are that at least in our minds it is slightly over-priced. And it is always crowded. If you go, definitely make reservations. Otherwise you will most likely be waiting for quite a while. If not for these two issues I would definitely give Katana Sushi 5 stars.

  • Jennifer G.

What sucks is the review is one star because of the service not the food. I can tell you the sushi was really good, pad Thai was okay, but the issue was the orange chicken. My daughter ordered it.... The waiter forgot it and then would not man up. As a matter of fact he sent over another waitress to deal with his mess because he was to chicken to come over and say he screwed up, which I would have respected. No..... The orange chicken was coming about 10 times, this is what I was told. The poor waitress who he pawned us off on was frantic. No clue what was wrong, no clue the waiter was missing a pair! The orange chicken was sour but this was after my daughter ate two bowls of white rice because everyone had finished eating before she got her food. I laid my credit card on the table.. My oldest daughter was watching the waiter tell the poor waitress to deal with me and I still did not receive a bill. I finally got up, walked to the manager and ask to pay. I paid over $100 and told the manager the tip was for the girl not the boy. I never yelled but my date with my daughters was ruined. The manager wanted to give my girls ice cream which was silly by that point. If you go I recommend the sushi but don't get the tall male as a waiter because he is a coward. This whole distaste could have been avoided with, "ma'am I made an error and forgot to order the food"... I am a really sad mommy who had a unfortunate experience at this place.

Good food, fun atmosphere and decent service. The employees were attentive and very friendly on the phone when calling to make and adjust our reservation. I had the Baltimore Roll with crab meat and Old Bay and the Spicy Tuna Crunch Roll. Both were fresh and tasty with a nice presentation. They even let us do separate checks for our group of 8 people! Will be back soon!

I eat here once a week. Usually on Fridays or Saturdays. Very good/fresh sushi. I have been eating sushi for a very long time. I am not a sushi snob but I wont eat at a sushi place that has below par sushi. This place is good and price matches what they offer. Very good!

Good solid Asian food, but VERY PRICEY even by NY standards and this in Elkridge MD!! Food selection was good, seaweed salad was real tasty; did not get the Edamame at $4.95 way too expensive, eel/cucumber roll was good and the Pad Thai with pork was good also. Overall good food just way too pricey.

Just tried Katana tonight and two things put a real damper on our experience. The food and sushi that was ordered was on par with other sushi joints in Columbia like Sono and King (which I would rate as 3 star sushi places) but don't order green tea here unless you want to actually pay $2.50 each. I can't recall ever paying for green tea in any other Japanese restaurant so when I got the bill I was quite surprised. If it was good green tea then it might be forgivable but they served it using a tea bag with luke warm water. Another first was having one of the nigiri pieces in my Sushi Deluxe being imitation crab nigiri...seriously??? (denial first)...WTH!!! (reality sinks in). Katana gets a star each for letting me experience two firsts in dining out.

I ate here about a week ago and I loved it! The sushi was a bit pricey, but well worth the money. Large portions, and a huge variety. I had the Crunch Roll and that was definitely my favorite, swimming in tempura flakes! I would definitely recommend for sushi. I did not have any of the regular menu food however, I get mixed reviews about that.

The sushi was OK for typical sushi places in this area. We happened to go one night with a fairly large group of people and this hasn't been an issue at any other sushi place we've been to. 30-45 minutes to wait for main courses is somewhat understandable, but it took almost TWO HOURS for our food to come out. Instead of bringing it out dish by dish and spreading out the food they waited for it ALL to be finished. We complained and didn't receive any sort of discount on our food. They couldn't have been that backed up because we were virtually the only people in there and we came in after the dinner rush (after 7).

My fiance and I just have grown to really enjoying sushi this past year. We enjoy trying new places, but NOTHING tops Katana. We often come with another couple and everyone we bring here agrees the sushi the best or close to the best they ever had. Our favorite is the Joe Roll. It was a chef's special, but with request they will make this for you no questions asked. I have taken take out here one night and the sushi was just as great if I ate it there.

I eat here weekly for mostly lunches and the occasional dinner. I also used them to cater a party. At the party everyone raved about how good the sushi was and the restaurant got a new group of regulars after that night. The only strike against them is that when they're crowded you're pretty much guaranteed to wait for your food. They only have two sushi chefs and they do get overwhelmed easily. But, I just go when they're less crowded to enjoy sushi from this hidden gem.

This is my favorite sushi place. I get carryout a lot because of my busy schedule, but when I can, my husband and I like to eat in. The dining room is very cozy and nice. The waitresses and management staff treat us like we are family. They ask about our kids and give us a hug if we haven't been in for awhile. We wouldn't go back if the food wasn't good, but the service and friendliness on top of the great sushi make this such a wonderful night out. Our favorite rolls are the Hot Summer Roll and the Crazy Girl. The asian food is very tasty as well, we order the noodle dishes and the kids love them as well.

The sashimi was very fresh and melted in my mouth. Service was fast, friendly, and thorough. It is a mid-scale restaurant with interesting decor, fairly reasonable prices (considering the sushi quality), and a comfortable atmosphere for enjoying a good meal with friends.

I've been here 5 times and each time was spectacular. The specialty roles, although a bit pricey, are some of the best I've had. The display and presentation are always creative and I've had no problems with service any time I've been there. Granted, I've never gone when it was crowded, so I can't say anything on that point, and, as I mentioned, it can be a bit pricey, but when it comes to sushi, I'd pay a little more for quality, which is what you get there.

Terrible service. We asked multiple times to several waiters how long it would be for our food to come out-- we got "I don't know" or no answer. We waited 1 hour for our food, before the manager finally came out to apologize that they were down one sushi chef. We should've been warned at the time of the order-- all of the tables around us also were waiting for hours along with us. When the first two sushi orders finally came out, one order was wrong. The waitress fumbled back and forth several times before getting the order correct. She first said we could just eat both orders since it was her fault, but then changed her mind and took the plate back. The correct sushi order was served with the sauce half wiped off by hand because they had just transferred it to another plate. Then merely gave us free edamame for waiting 1.5 hours. The rest of the sushi orders then came out one by one, and we had waited 1 hour and 45 minutes, before we received all of our food. For spending 2 hours in the restaurant, we got 15% off. And I can't say the wait was worth the food. I can think of several other restaurants where I can get sushi that tastes just as good.

Love it!

I tried the Sushi here on the recommendation of a co-worker. After reading the reviews here, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It seemed like most of the negative marks on the reviews based around the servers rather than the food, and since I was getting it to-go, I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. The rolls were fresh and quite tasty. The Crab Rangoon was still hot, and the Seaweed Salad had the perfect zing to it. It wasn't earth shatteringly good, but good enough that I will definitely be going back when I'm in the mood to have sushi for lunch. The only negative I could find was that they didn't give me enough soy sauce. But, in their defense, I do use more than most people, so I can't really hold that against them.

We were here for a late lunch on a weekday. Sushi King is my go-to sushi place in Columbia, but since they close from 3-5 everyday, we thought we'd try something new. The fact that it was open at 3:30 is one of it's stronger points. They have lots of rolls to choose from, but a large number of them are deep fried, which I try to avoid. The presentation of our rolls was nicely done on a sushi boat, the service was good, the decor was fine. Unfortunately, the sushi was just meh. Nothing special, no flavors stood out, all the rolls kind of tasted the same except for the extremely smoky flavored dancing eel roll. Yuck!

I ordered a bento box here during my stay at the nearby hotel, and I was really disappointed. It came with chicken teriyaki, which was ok.. and soup, which I couldn't finish and not for lack of trying or because I was full. It also came with vegetable tempura, which arrived cold. Matter of fact, everything in the box was cold minus the soup. I was really disappointed. I'm told the sushi is ok, but if the bento box was so bad, I'm not sure I wanna know what the sushi is all about......

Sushi order took a long time to come out from the kitchen, but everything was tasty. The spider rolls were especially good, as were the dynamite rolls. Large selection of drinks, including wines and cocktails. Restaurant is "cozy" (code for small), but staff were very friendly.

Yay! I'm definitely a fan. I've ordered take out from this place a few times - their sashimi bento dinner box is a great deal. For $18, you get: 6 pieces of sashimi, rice, salad, miso soup, california roll, tempura veggies, and 3 pieces of shumai. Sashimi was fresh, california roll on point, and tempura veggies were crispy and tasty. Their lunch specials are also decently priced - $9.50 for 2 rolls with soup or salad or $12 for 3 rolls I believe. I have never dined in before, but should do so soon! The special rolls seem a bit pricey.

Stopped in on a Monday evening to wait out rush hour traffic. Easy off/on from MD 100 and reasonably near BWI. Not crowded. Atmosphere was cozy clean and relaxing. Beautiful saltwater fish tank. Music was mellow which was great because we could actually talk to each other. You have two choices of seating at the Sushi bar or at a table. The tables are a bit close to each other but still separated back to back. Wine, cocktails, and beer are available. I recommend the Kirin which comes in a large can or a long neck bottle, both were ice cold. The sushi menu is extensive! The snow mountain roll was highly praised by one happy departing customer. We opted for a hot meal and both the Lemon Chicken (Chinese) and the Chicken/Shrimp Pad Thai (Thailand) were yummy and fresh. Portions were large, but we still cleaned our plate. Tucked into a nice neighborhood shopping center. Holiday Inn Express is across the parking lot.

The staff here is very attentive and nice. The sushi is fresh and yummy. I ordered the maki combo and the Alaskan roll. People usually have a probably with the smoke salmon and cream cheese ratio but katana got it just right. The maki combo came with salmon roll, spicy tuna and spicy yellow tail. The salmon roll had a great fresh taste w a hint of vinegar which compliments the fish. The bill in total was about $20 I think that was pretty cheap. I would definitely come back here.

My wife and I have eaten here twice now. Once for sushi, and once for cooked Japanese food. We both agree the sushi was excellent, and the cooked food was "okay". We are big sushi fans, so we will be returning for that. Combined with the friendly staff and relaxing ambiance, this place is great! They also have a really nice saltwater fish tank.

Katana has delicious, fresh sushi for affordable prices in a relaxed atmosphere. There are beautiful fish tanks and the decor throughout the restaurant is beautiful. The staff are always very friendly and helpful as well. The sushi is good and there are a variety of rolls and nigiri pieces to choose from. Katana has Sushi King beat... but my favorite sushi restaurant in the Columbia area is Hanamura hands down.

Tried it out this past Saturday night. Got there around 9pm so it was empty except for two other couples. Staff seemed nice enough. Not overly nice but not indifferent either. One waitress, a beautiful young lady, was very nice and smiled a lot like you're supposed to. The sushi was decent, nothing great or bad. The miso soup was actually good. Lots of seaweed and tofu and flavor. Other reviewer must have set them straight haha. Since it was late and not a lot of customers, a lot of the staff was sitting at the sushi bar watching Sarah Palin's reality show and talking about Alaska (in Chinese of course). We ordered the sushi for two which is served on a wooden boat.

Pros: This restaurant has an extensive list of maki sushi and a vast variety of ingredients. Rolls were well sized, structured and very filling. Our servers were attentive and friendly. The facility and the decor was nice, relaxing and clean. The presentation was average, not too ornate, but who cares when the taste is so good. Many of the rolls featured very inventive combinations, and were a little daring (which we think is fun). The ingredients tasted fresh and expertly prepared. Katana Sushi also had the largest selection of sake we have seen so far. Cons: very pricey, but I would pay for it again. Also, most of the maki sushi included tempura/fried ingredients, which can be an over powering flavor. We wish there was less tempura so that the other flavors could stand out, though we didn't try asking for a special order or anything. Recommendations: The 4 rolls we tried (Atlantic roll, pink boy roll, lobster roll, star ship roll) were fantastic. The star ship roll had strawberry in it. We were skeptical at first, but hint of sweetness balanced out the spicy ingredients and was delicious. As for the sake, definitely try the hatsumago and the mizbasho (both cold), they are expensive but worth it. This restaurant is not for those under a tight budget.

Best sushi place I have went to in a while. The chefs were careful and generous. The menu also didn't pander to the locals directly (Baltimore roll, Philly Roll,...etc) which i think is a great thing, because if you are at a sushi place for sushi, you should be more open to what that actually entails. It's a bit out of the way and in a strange location (not much around that area of elkridge) but it is pretty great stuff. Best part is their selection of spirits especially sake, this is what i have been looking for. The only reason i considered taking away a star is because of the odd setting arrangements at the bar (I felt short). The reason I didn't was because how attentive the staff was the place was kind of busy and they check on us a good deal throughout the meal which was enough to give the star right back. Check it out!

I went here because it was near my hotel and I could walk over. The miso soup was so bad (tasteless) that I began to dread the rest of the meal but the salad was fresh and flavorful and the sushi was great. Most of these modern-chain sushi places serve the grade of fish you get from the sushi counters at grocery stores but this was much better quality and larger pieces. The indifferent (almost angry) waitress and the bad miso soup kept this from four stars.

I love this restaurant. I eat here at least once a week as I travel for work and I pass by on my way back from the airport so it's easy and tasty! The fish is always super fresh and the service is perfect. If I do take out it's ready within 15 mins everytime and handed to me with a smile. I have yet to find something on the menu that isn't wonderful but my favorites are the sweet mango roll and Spring Tower. Eat here. You won't be disappointed.

Great food, great service, and nice atmosphere. Ordered several rolls on our first trip here, and wasn't disappointed. A bit pricey, but the rolls were large and definitely worth the price tag.

  • Asa B.

  • Joanna T.

I seriously found Katana on a whim, I was trying to find Giant & bam! ran into it. Been three times so far & fell in love with it more & more. I highly recommend checking out the lunch specials if you want to try Katana first.

I eat here once a week. Usually on Fridays or Saturdays. Very good/fresh sushi. I have been eating sushi for a very long time. I am not a sushi snob but I wont eat at a sushi place that has below par sushi. This place is good and price matches what they offer. Very good!

It was good, but extremely over priced. $15 for a roll of sushi on the Chef's specials is a bit much. The service was flawless. The restaurant is clean. The atmosphere is nice and cozy. I'll go back, but will stick to the basics and see how it goes.
