I used to like Popeye's once in awhile, but my last experience here will be my last experience with this chain. Had some out of town guests in and we were planning on going out on the boat. It was HOT, so I did not want to mess with grilling or cooking, so someone suggested fried chicken. KFC closed in Edgewater, so our closest choice was Popeye's. We went at around 10:30 AM., since we wanted to get out on the water early. Their advertisements claim there is someone at each location fryin up fresh chicken EVERY morning. So our expectations were that we would get a pretty fresh batch rather then one that had been warmed under a heat lamp for half the day. I perused the web and found a coupon which seemed like a good deal. Well when it was finally time to eat, we were just completely baffled. I picked a wing, and darned if every bite was just batter and barely a lick of meat. and what was found was beyond jerky dry. Nothing was good....the biscuits were like hockey pucks, the coleslaw was just a menagerie of something dowsed in mayo and the dirty rice was bland and tasteless. I said uncle, and so did the rest of our crew. I saved some pieces to feed to my dog, but the rest went into the trash. When it came time to get the meat from the chicken, I was flabbergasted. I peeled away the skin and coating from a breast only to find about two chunks of white meat. The rest was bone and coating. I can't tell you the last time I purchased a small bone- in chicken breast from a supermarket, as the main purveyors are creating turkey sized chickens which means mucho meat. (not that I am a fan of the jumbo size). However, selling chicken with no meat is also a crime. Popeye's supplier's poultry is obviously on a spa diet. Ick, yuck, and thanks for ruining our lunch.
