Love to support local and Outta the Way is SOMETIMES just the place to go if you don't want to venture too far from home. The service is spotty...sometimes the waitresses are attentive, other times non-existent. Another reviewer said they had to get their own condiments and such, and I've had to do the same. Friends and I go for the food...their pastas, salads, and sandwiches are great. Bar scene is very Derwoodian...you've got your high school graduates who never left town, local groupies into the live music, your electrician or carpenter, and then some white collar folks in the mix. Don't go for the service, but try it out for a reasonable bite at a local joint. It really isn't too far outta the way.

So enjoyable. This is the type of local restaurant every community needs. Food is comforting, the sauce in Chip's wings is outstanding! Love the neighborhood feel. Love the fact they support the community. Music on Fridays and Saturdays. Just a great place to hang out.

Great friendly service and yummy food make me definitely want to come back! I had the chicken chili which had just the right amount of spice! The spiced shrimp were fresh and steamed just right!

The service in my experience has been pretty awful with unfriendly servers and overtly rude management. The menu is overpriced and the food isn't the best. I am amongst several friends and family who have agreed to boycott this established based on our many collective unpleasant experiences there.

This is a great location, friendly atmosphere and excellent food. I'd highly recommend going here. I typically get the buffalo chicken sandwich but my better half has gotten the chicken tempura which is also quite good. It's got an odd name and is tucked in a plaza a little outta the way (ba dum dum) but it's a great place.

I first came here maybe 15 years ago with a close family friend who loved this place. He was a regular and we were always like why are you always dragging us out here?! He's since passed away but would love to know that they continue to keep it real and there's a reason why we made the trek out here. It's not just for the food. It's also for the ambiance, music, and for producing the same experience locals have loved for years. LOCATION: It may be hard to find but once you figure out where they are you'll keep coming back! They're tucked away in sort of a sideways half strip mall but don't give up if you can't find them. The food and music is worth it! FOOD: I've never been disappointed with the food here. Most recently I was impressed, as the true Slav I am, with their pierogies. Those are hard to come by around these parts so props for offering them and making them well worth ordering Ronnie D. There used to be a German place down the street way back in the day. I'm so pumped the Polish food still exists in the area to some extent! I've honestly had so many dishes here I can't comment on all of them. You can't go wrong with the sandwiches in my experience. I don't say this about many restaurants but honestly you can't go wrong with anything here. Homemade food at a reasonable price. MUSIC: Pretty awesome. The music has always been good here. The band that played during my last visit seemed to be an open mic gig as they weren't on the Saturday schedule. I was dining with all musicians and we were oddly surprised by the quality of the band. Even if I've been coming to this place forever we were at first weary about the band as us music types tend to be. Way to prove us wrong! Not only were they good but they covered all sorts of genres and decades making it fun for all! I only wish more people were there because this band was beyond good for the venue (no offense guys!) OVERALL: Definitely coming back having been reminded of why I was introduced to the Outta The Way Cafe in the first place years ago! Quality service, food, and music. A diamond in the rough that's worth finding.

I've been coming here for a few years now. This place has been my go to place for quite some time for a decent meal and brew. Food has actually gotten better since the last time I came! Only thing I would like to see improve is the service. Service isn't terrible but the waitresses always seem to have lead in their shoes. Took about 15 minutes just for her to pick up our check so we could pay and leave. All in all, a great local spot for a well priced decent meal. The owners are also very cool!!

We've been going to Outta the Way at least 3 or 4 times a month for about 10 years now. Always good food. Nothing foofoo or that weird fusion stuff on the menu. Just really good food that keeps us coming back. for more. Wait staff is always friendly and attentive when we're there. It's not the Ritz Carlton in decor, but it absolutely makes you feel comfortable and welcomed, and I'll take that anytime over places that make you feel like a bozo if you don't know (or care) about the latest craze in fancy dining!

Substandard "local" recommendation which is very disappointing because we love to support our small businesses over chains always. It wasn't any one thing but rather a culmination of several things that will preclude us from ever eating here or recommending it to anybody else (We got the recommendation from a GoApe employee) The waitress who served our table had the runner doing all the work which unfortunately included, after seating us and getting our beverages and appetizers, informing us that tank tops are not allowed (so guys just be warned - that double standard only applies to you) and he (the manager) was allowing us to dine since food orders have already been placed (read: don't want to lose the money made off a party of 7). Why the manager sends the runner to do his job is beyond me! Sorry to Amanda for working for a jerk obviously who couldn't be bothered to do his job. We asked the waitress several times for condiments and wound up getting them ourselves. Amanda, the runner, however was very attentive and was doing her best to provide us good service. One would think if you're going to be picky about your attire rules that you could clean the bathrooms better but maybe not. Manager needs to get a clue about customer service and priority. Word of mouth can bring you clientele or drive them away. As for the meal - it was so so, the buffalo wings are the only item ordered out of 7 meals that would be worth having again IF one were to dine here. Definitely don't recommend both for environment and lack of professionalism and attention to customer service and for lackluster menu. Won't be back.

Looks like I found a new lunch spot! And it's not really that outta the way. It's actually in the middle of a shopping plaza, split between a restaurant on the left and a bar on the right, with plenty of lot parking out front. There were a few patrons at the bar enjoying a midday meal, which was exactly my intent. I sipped on an ice water while browsing their menu, eventually deciding on their Reuben sandwich with onion rings. The bartender was a friendly guy and I eventually realized this is considered a "Steelers bar" with a bit of Western PA food and flare. Auto extra star right there. After my meal arrived, the bartender informed me that my lunch tab was being picked up by the waitress who, seeing me in uniform, was thankful for my service. I was naturally surprised, especially since I would have gladly paid full-price for the delicious sandwich. Instead, I left her a monster tip, extremely thankful for such a kind and generous gesture. I'll definitely be a "regular" in the near-term future.

The Outta the Way Cafe is owned by Chip and Brian, who prides in themselves in offering a neighborhood eatery with great hospitality. They have live music (on Fri & Sats) that you can check out the listings of the groups on their website)), as well as a Thursday Open Mic night (where you can play what you like on their drum kit/sound systems). Their menu is quite extensive, offering items like: wings, pierogies, blue crab dip, chicken strippers, deep-fried onion rings, soups, chilis, salads, burgers/wraps/sandwiches, tacos, pastas, steaks/chops/seafood, and desserts. We walked in about an hour after opening and were pretty surprised at how empty the place was. The place had an old-school charm to it, with lovely stained glass work on the wall to the east, separating the dining area from the bar. The hubs and I shared Chip's Wings (described as a triple-layered blend of flavors, with a side of bleu cheese; minimum order is 1lb), and OTWC Sliders (original burger sliders, or other options such as Prime Rib, Arnold Reuben, and Uncle H's BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger; we opted for the original). We weren't fans of the wings, as it tasted like buffalo sauce that was totally sugar-fied - extremely sweet, and not as complex in flavors as it was described to it. I did find it interesting that the owner, Chip, does not share the recipe of the sauce with anyone, and he comes in on a weekly basis to make the sauce. If the place runs out, than 'Chip's Wings' is unavailable! We both thought the sliders were pretty okay - came with 4, the buns were very soft and fresh, and the patties were griddles; it had a small dollop of ketchup, some onions, and cheese - you can request for mayo and extra ketchup, if you wish. Our server was Ms. Julie, who was very sweet, but she had a torn ligament; we tried to consolidate our orders/request for condiments so that she didn't have to make multiple trips to our table! When you step in, you can seat yourself anywhere you like - the dining room is pretty spacious. There's also a lot for your car that is shared by the rest of the stores in the small strip mall. +okay OTWC sliders +friendly staff +nice stained-glass decor; old-school charm

I went here last night for a late dinner. Saturday night seems to be a pretty good time to go. There wasn't any wait and they had a local band playing some low key cover songs which was entertaining. The wait staff are pretty efficient and friendly. It definitely seems more of a locals place with a following. I had the philly cheesesteak sub and I was far from dissappointed. The meat they used was so flavorful and tender. The cheese lettuce and tomato complimented it perfectly. The sub was massive but it was so delicious I forced myself to try to finish haha. Theres nothing I really can complain about with this place except it maybe could be redecorated a bit, but that is an afterthought. Overall just yummy in my tummyyyy

Great place, great food. My favorites are beef and chicken Chilli, the crab dip is super delicious. The Louisiana chicken strippers are definitely great specially on a salad, and the steak and cheese is also a favorite.

Solid Long Island and Fish Tacos hit the spot. Decor is different.. but charming, I would say. Good choice for me if I am looking for a quick late-night drink/meal. The bar does get crowded on weeknights though.. I was there on trivia night and learned that the world's largest vagina was 19inches or something crazy like that.

Good food and good service all around. Came here for lunch after a teambuilding event with my company, and altogether our group was a whopping 30 people. The two waitresses on staff handled our party expertly, constantly ferrying appetizer orders, fresh pitchers of beer, and refills without complaint or a single mistake in any order. We were far louder than I imagine the usual lunch crowd is, so I can't fairly comment on the atmosphere. My burger was fantastic, and everyone else seemed happy with their entrees as well. The nachos seemed like they had taco sauce in them, which is cheating a little, but the crab dip more than made up for it. All in all, I wholeheartedly recommend this place if you're in the area.

I spent a pleasant Thursday evening among friends & live music & treated myself to the seafood section of the menu: "Matt's Noble Creole Shrimp & Grilled Salmon," priced at $19.00. It was a sumptuous delight; the creole shrimp with mushrooms & sauce over the grilled salmon made it tender; the portions of broccoli & rice pilaf are equally generous; all accompanied by a small banana muffin & orange slice. It's a complete meal, & the service is always friendly. The only thing I would add is a small helping of melted butter on the side to dip your broccoli in, which they happily did at my request. I've never tasted a bad dish there yet!

I like this place a lot and it is one of my local watering holes in Gaithersburg/Rockville. The place is divey and the food is OK. I get the triple decker ham and turkey club. It is a large sandwich and is the best item for the cost. If you like the Steelers then this is the bar for you.

*****2.5 stars**** Located in the Redland Shopping Center, Outta The Way Cafe looks somewhat suspect from the exterior. The interior is outdated and has no real theme in terms of decor. The restaurant is split between a dining area and a bar. Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon (the place was pretty empty) to grab some food to go, which can only be placed at the bar. The bartender was pretty friendly and was patient as we perused the menu. Decided on their "world famous wings" and cheese fries. I was looking forward to trying out their Chip's wings, but was informed that they weren't offering them at the moment. Apparently the owner cannot find a few ingredients and they aren't sure if they will be serving them in the near future. That's too bad, especially since the bartender said everyone loved them. For the wings, we got the dragon and swing wings. While we waited for our order, we grabbed a beer. The bar area was pretty decent in size and had a few TVs. Hmmmm I'm not sure I would classify these wings as world famous. By the time we got home, they were pretty soggy and needed to be reheated. In fairness, the bartender did suggest we get the wings naked with the sauce on the side since they could get soggy. We declined since it was only a 5 minute ride home. If we got the sauce on the side, these wings still would have been soggy. They were crammed in a tiny plastic container with no air holes. Ummm of course they would get soggy if there's no air circulation, causing the issue of condensation! Anyhow, after reheating the wings, I thought they were still just okay. The dragon wings were not spicy, but had a slight kick. With the green chilis, jalapenos, and secret hot spices that are added, I thought my lips would be burning and my nose running after a few bites. Nope. Didn't happen. The swing wings were just okay too. It was supposed to be a combination of hot and teriyaki with old bay seasoning. The heat and old bay were nonexistent. All I could taste was the teriyaki flavor. The cheese fries were a joke, especially for almost $10. Again, the needed to be reheated as they weren't cooked all the way. It was just a bunch of fries (tasted store bought) sprinkled with grated cheese. Definitely would not order these next time. I'd be interested to go back to try their wings again. This time I'd dine in and would never order them to go. Actually, I'd probably never order anything to go here again...unless I want to go home and heat them up again before I could actually eat what I ordered. They have other items on the menu that I would be interested in trying as well.

Went there on a Sunday to meet a friend who's a steelers fan. It's a small place and pretty dark inside. I didn't order any food but i tasted the crab dip and it was pretty yummy. The only reason for my 2 stars is because I got a pitcher of bud light which ended up being $16 which I think is ridiculous.

Not the place for brunch. Was told the Bloody Mary was spicy but didn't expect it to be so thick with spice to be unpalatable. A very expensive and disappointing mistake. The scrambled eggs were runny enough for me to be concerned about eating them. The French toast was great but you have to ask for more than 1 pat of butter. 5 tables with diners and 2 waitresses, you would think they would check back with their customers or at least buss the dirty dishes off the previously occupied tables in the dining room. This place has been an institution around here but it appears they have been around so long they are complacent. Not particularly concerned about encouraging new clientele. May stop in some time to see if their regular menu is any better. But in no rush to add this to my list of "go to" recommendations or a place to go "outta the way" to eat at.

I know that I have been going to Outta the Way since the early '90s. Their food is really good. The Swirlin' Wings are out of this world. There is nothing better. We have tried unsuccessfully to imitate. The White Chicken Chili is also awesome and the Cheese Steak and many other things that I have tried. My husband loves the 3 way Shrimp. After a night of wonderful live music the Hot Fudge Sundae really hits the spot too. We have brought friends and family with us to watch football or listen to music. This is a a home town bar and restaurant that is really relaxing.

We picked this place based on other yelp reviews and walked into your typical tavern with a bar-room and larger dining area. The setup was as expected, TVs all over the place with games on, dim lighting, a band setting up to play later. Everything seemed quaint and we were seated quickly. Our sever was a little absent minded, numerous times forgetting drinks that were ordered, or not checking back for refills on soda/water. I think in the two hours or so that we were there, she stopped by without us flagging her down, maybe twice. Granted she did have a larger party at a collection of tables, so we joked about it and waited patiently. The main event though was lack luster. The food was fine, nothing wrong with it, just nothing impressive. My beef sandwich was under seasoned and bland, the burger that was ordered was also described as "eh, it's ok". Nothing was undercooked, nothing was exceptional, we finished all our food and agreed that if in the area we would try them again, but since we were about 40 minutes from home, a special trip wasn't going to happen. If there is one thing I can cite as a great positive, everything seemed homemade. No frozen this or that. If it was, they did fool us. I've been to enough places where I swear the whole menu is microwaved. I did NOT get that impression here. I enjoyed my meal but can't cite anything specific that made me go "wow i need to do this again soon!" ...next time I might try their wings.

My boyfriend found this place in a list of great places to eat/bars in the area so we were jazzed about trying it. However, the experience was lackluster. This place is, as others have noted, occupies a relatively unassuming location in a strip mall. The place is weirdly decorated (tables set up like an Italian restaurant, but the bar is jazzed up with mood lighting and Maryland/crab themed stained glass panels line the walls. The tables were jumbled tightly together so it was awkward to access any of them. The clientele seemed to be in the 40-60 range, with a couple larger parties sharing the tiny room. Of course we were seated next to a family with obnoxious children which didn't help the already loud, squished environment. It also didn't help get our orders right, or the waitress return anytime soon to check on our food. I got pierogies, which were not bad. My boyfriend got some sort of steak with a salad underneath, but it ended up being really just a salad, and a small one at that. The pierogies were $8 and I think his underwhelming salad was $14. I got a gross, chalky iced tea that I didn't order and his beer was alright. Their beer list seemed acceptable, but there were no real specials. In sum, it's not a bad place, but I don't see anything that really makes this a standout place to warrant a return to when there are so many other wonderful options.

So I'm reading the positive Yelp reviews for a while and I finally make it in to try it out. This place needs to be updated. The decor is outdated and our waitress spent more time talking about things they no longer serve on the menu than any specials. I counted at least four discontinued items on the menu. I also read reviews that this is a sports bar. [I'm all for that!] The bar area did have TV's on but nothing in the dining area. I specifically sat so I could view a wall-mounted TV - with my back to the big screen TV which was turned off. My tiny TV was nothing but ads about the restaurant. To their credit, they did turn on the big TV when the Nats game came on. But for me, this is all secondary to the quality of the food! I will sit in some pretty seedy places to get good food. Sadly - they failed to deliver on this as well. My friends ordered the crab dip, which was best described as "adequate". One of my friends ordered a Black & Tan, but they forgot to add the Tan. Things happen! People forget sometimes. So he ordered another Black & Tan - pointing out the first error - and they brought him another Guinness. Two of us ordered the cheeseburgers. They were OK but really needed seasoning. They were also slightly over cooked. My friend got the mushrooms on top of his burger but reported it wasn't worth it. However, the grilled onions were! On the menu it said you could verify the awesomeness of their burger by searching the Internet for "cheeseburger logic". I had an internet connected device with me - So I did! The only working link I found was to this restaurants website. I don't think that counts as a legitimate reference. My other friend had the fish tacos which she said were ok. Tasted good but the moisture made the tortillas soggy. Overall...meh. I may give this place another try simply due to the positive reviews, but my experience was pretty poor.

My friend invited me over here on Friday. I couldnt find it because it really is out of the way, behind Bank of America in a small shopping center. Anyhow, there was a live band playing and it was crowded in the dinning area. I headed to the bar and felt very comfy for a cold winter Saturday night. I ordered the wings with old bay and some tenders with fries. My oh my, they were sooo sooo good. I also love their home made sauces especially the honey mustard. I hear the rest of their food is amazing, so I cant wait to go back. I think Tuesdays its trivia night and Weds its $4 martinis..

Worst service I've received! All of the waitresses were rude to our party, and we overheard one telling our waitress that she needed to be nicer to us. The only thing we did was laugh and joke, nothing too annoying or rambunctious. Would not come back here again!

I live in Ocean City, MD. As a bartender I have customers from all over MD. One customer tells me about a Steelers bar near where my GF lives. She said she had heard of it but never been. My last visit, with a Monday night Steeler game, we took her family. Outta the way... that's for sure. A little tough to find but WELL WORTH IT. We took post at the center of the bar and sat for the Steelers game. Service was great. Prices were fine. Food... wow. Never thought a small place like this would do it so well. Me, I had the Pirogi app. Then for dinner had the Chicken Fettuccine. Of course the Pirogis were so good I also got them as a side. With in our group I know we had wings that everyone raved about. I also recall a beef sandwich that was said to have magical properties. Will go again, For sure.

This is a good joint. Very nice and low key, though the bar area gets packed in the evening. Food is OK, nothing to write home about, however the atmosphere is outstanding. They also have an ALL YOU CAN EAT chicken wings and shrimp Monday nights, which is outstanding. All in all a good place and worth a visit.

This place is so good, I've been coming here for a few years . This place has been my go to place for quite some time for a decent meal and brew. Food has actually gotten better since the last time I came!

I like this place a lot and it is one of my local watering holes in Gaithersburg/Rockville. The place is divey and the food is OK. I get the triple decker ham and turkey club. It is a large sandwich and is the best item for the cost. If you like the Steelers then this is the bar for you.

This is a good place hidden in the corner of a shopping center. I absolutely love their wings. Everything else here is decent but the wings have been what's kept me coming back..I usually get a mixture of the terryiaki and hot and it's phenomenal.

Great lunch. We went at an off hour - 2pm. Had pierogi for an appetizer- delicious! My husband loved his fish tacos. My steak salad was just as advertised- never had one with fries before. Service was great, decor was funky. Good local place.

The service in my experience has been pretty awful with unfriendly servers and overtly rude management. The menu is overpriced and the food isn't the best. I am amongst several friends and family who have agreed to boycott this established based on our many collective unpleasant experiences there.

The very epitome of the small neighborhood pub. The regulars all know each other, and new folks are always made to feel welcome. Think "Cheers" in Derwood, MD. The menu is primarily basic "american" fare, and is consistently very well prepared. The wings at the Outta the Way are absolutely the best around. Live music is a big part of the Outta the Way's draw. Every Thursday night there is an open mic, Fridays have small combos and acoustic music, and Saturdays have live bands. It has some "sports bar" elements to it, and it is a great place to watch a game (especially if you are a Steelers fan), but it is not overwhelming in this regard; you are unlikely to feel like you just stumbled into some bad frat house, the way many sports-oriented establishments do. Their motto sums it up pretty well: "Good food, good 'tude."

This place is outta the way alright! I got the wings and fish tacos. The wife got a bacon cheese burger. The wings are some of the best I've had in Md. To be honest I find them much better than BWB or Green Turtle. The fish tacos were not that good. I found the plate really lacked any flavor. The black beans tasted like they came out of a can and the fish was tasteless. The burger was wonderful. It was well cooked and just awesome. This place is a great place for wings and burgers. I can't wait for next week so I can get the wings again.

Nice place in itself, great place if you are a Pittsburgh sports fan. It is a very tiny bar room. Most likely the regulars will stake claim to the seats so you will either have to stand or mosey to the dining room. Basic beers, nothing too special on that front but when you get to the food that is better. Portions are larger than your face, especially if you are the kid from Mask (too soon?). Breakfasts are enormous. 2 lb breakfast burrito, sweet potato casserole is delic, great shakes, and yummy in my tummy omelets. Dinner wise: All I had was the burger and oh what a burger. It tasted straight off the bbq pit. None of that pre-formed reheated patty crap. This was a two handed meal, third if you could swing it. Fries aren't good, but when you get a burger like that you probably wouldn't want to eat them anyway. I know they have music but I have yet to get to it. I would say this is a good place if you are in the mood for a low key, good priced family restaurant or some small time dive-esque atmosphere. Bartenders are very friendly and talkative and so are the neighbors at the stool next to you. I would bump this up to maybe 3.75 stars. I don't want to give the impression it isn't a worthwhile place because it is. But you would just have to be in the low-key kinda mood to go here.

I've been going to this neighborhood restaurant location since I was a kid (it was called the Redland Pub back then). The newest incarnation of this space (which isn't really at all new, which makes me feel old...) is a great restaurant/bar combo that serves up some delicious comfort and pub food. The menu is extensive, which makes it difficult for me to choose, but means there is something for everyone and for every craving. My favorite is the exploding meatloaf, which is really something you have to try to understand its greatness--it's a meatloaf, mashed potato, cheesy combo that will make your tastebuds explode. I've also sampled some of their pasta dishes and never been disappointed. My Mom and stepdad eat here about once a week, which is a testament to the variety and deliciousness of the food that can be found here. They always have a nice selection of beers on tap, and the staff is super nice and accomodating. Thursday nights are open mic night, and live music can also be heard on Fridays and Saturdays. Pittsburg fans can watch Steelers games here, which is nice because I know lots of folks who are fans and are constantly searching for a place to see the game. Overall, a great local place to go for dinner or a drink and some music, or just to watch the game. Check it out!

I gonna give it a 5 even though the service was really spotty it is hard to find a place with live music and good food. In all fairness our waiter meant welland will probably make a good corporate drone one day - he just sorta sucked as a waiter. I feel bad saying that because he was a nice kid. The food was awesome but we only ordered a bunch of appetizers. The wings were some of the best I have ever eaten... go swirly...yummmmmy... I also really like that they let you pick if you want drummies or winglets or mixed...

I should give this place 0 stars for being a Steelers bar! However - my husband and I frequent Outta often, their food is delicious (Swirlin' Wings specifically) and the bartenders are not only great bartenders but all around nice people. They have a full bar and the standard beers on tap - although I must say they have increased their craft selection on tap - which I appreciate! We always enjoy their musical offerings too. Local bands just starting out and bands that have been playing there since the day they opened. When friends are in town we are always proud to show off our neighborhood-hole-in-the-wall-hang out!

Last night my family went out to outta the way cafe because it got such good reviews on yelp but our experience way less than great. After not being seated for 15 mint. We finally sat at a table for maybe 10 mint. And was asked to move to accommodate there regular customers. They moved us from a family friendly corner were our 9 month old wasn't in the way to we're everyone was passing over here head. I must say the wings, pirogues were good. However the Maui Maui platter was not so great, my husband had the crab cakes which were over cooked. My son liked the kids burgers but the onion rings were over cooked. The waitress was great cause she tried her best but had the large party that they moved us to accommodate. I spoke with the manager who explained that because they were regulars from Magruder high school that it most be ok. I explained that we're trying to become regulars as well. To make up he got us dessert witch I didn't go crazy for. We all side We would not be returning.
By FAR the best wings south of Anchor Bar in NY, where they were invented. Yes. Mmmm. Big. Juicy. Perfect Sauce. All the flavors are awesome. They also have Loose Cannon on tap which is AWESOME. Keep on keepin on OTWC!

This is a great bar. It's small and everyone is extremely nice. The chili kicks ass as does the rest of the menu. But the best thing about this bar is the games during football season. Now this is the place to be if you want to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers play a game of tackle football. I wouldn't miss a game during the season. To quote there website "All other NFL games are not Steeler conflicts....when the Black and Gold plays, nothing else exists" That wasn't true the first year I started going but as the place got more and more Steelers fans packing in they added TVs and turned off all the other games. When ever they score they play the latest version of the Pittsburgh Steelers Polka originally recorded by Jimmy Psihoulis in 1978, but it's updated with all the new players. (Listen craftonreunion.org/siteb… ) It was the best season ever was watching the Steelers win four straight do or die regular season games to barely make it into the play offs as a wild card. Than to go on to win a never before three straight road playoff games that lead them to the franchise fifth super bowl. That was awesome. And it couldn't have been with a better group of guys.
This is one of those places that caters to regulars. Regulars love it for one simple reason....they're regulars. We ate there a few weeks ago after not having been there for about a year, and nothing's changed. The place itself is nondescript and average. The reason for the preface about regulars comes as a direct result of the service we received while eating here. Our server spent more time chatting with other tables of regulars as well being far more attentive to them than she was with us, a family with 2 children....had we donned sports jerserys the experience may have been different, but I doubt it. Service not withstanding, the food is sub par. We ordered two apps mozzarella sticks and pierogis. The cheese slabs were oily and over breaded and chewy to the point of jaw pain served with a marinara sauce tantamount to Ragu. The pierogis, however, were great, sauteed with onion in butter with just the right amount of crisp on the outside. Not a good omen when that is your best food item. The shrimp platter average at best. Philly cheesesteak wrap a colossal mess with over cooked steak and onions that fell apart within 3 bites. Not even worth eating with a fork. The milkshake that my daughters shared after lunch was exceptional. Rich, creamy, and very chocolaty. A nice ending to a D+ experience. Is Dairy Queen Open?

I stumbled upon this "dive" looking for some local food while attending a conference in Gaithersburg (I'm from Ohio). The OTWC was a refreshing alternative to the bland chains that I find parked next to every hotel. I was delighted by the Wasabi (mixed with ginger) wings and overwhelmed by the Triple Shrimp platter. The homemade pirogies that came as a side dish were also delicious. The night before I had shrimp at Joe's Crabshack next to my hotel and walked away hungry...that wasn't possible at the OTWC. I applaud the cafe for supporting the troops (didn't even realize they were so patriotic until I looked them up later on the web) and would highly recommend this restaurant. I'm planning to return there tonight to sample more of their menu before I make the trip home.

Ok, so this place really isn't a 5. But I'm going to ignore the fact that my tempura chicken strips wasn't really tempora and minus the food, the place is awesome. I really wished that it wasn't so out in the boonies as their name fittingly describes. The regulars there seems to be for the most part an older middle aged crowd. Some of them look like they just got off from work and was just hitting the place for a few drinks or to jam on stage. Others looked a little rough, like they had a little too many cigarettes, alcohol, and meth. But they all were very friendly and just added to the ambiance of the place. Thursday open mic night is amazing! Went there because some friends played there. Their band "Arthur Mielke" was great but the other guys playing there just totally blew me away. There was everything from blues to classic rock and the music was just all goodness. Everyone there was so nice even though a group of 30 of us came and invaded their place. The staff were sweet and welcoming and the regulars were just as nice. It probably helped though that we blew a lot of money on drinks and avoided any explicit displays of douchebaggery.

This is a true Black & Gold Steelers bar. If you come during a fall/winter Sunday afternoon this place is guaranteed to be packed out by a sea of Black & Gold. If you want to watch the game here, arrive very very early. They could probably use more space. Monday night games are easier to get a spot. Great Steelers bar. Food is not bad, price is medium.

Service was fast and accurate. Food on all three plates was excellent. Salads are a little small as a main dish but imaginative and flavorful. We will be back! Especially half off bottles of wine on tuesday. I don't remember the last time I cleaned my plate.

This place is amazing. A coworker and I went here last night and the service was great. Their 20.00 prime rib special is hands down one of the best deals I have ever had. It also tastes amazing. Their beer menu caters to a wide audience. I had their Heavy Seas Loose Canon which is one of my favorite. The only criticism I have with the place and is the only reason this place does not get a 5 star rating is that is pretty dark inside. The lights are dimmed very low. Other than that, it is excellent.

For the longest time I have lived near this place and never wanted to go to it due to the fact that this restaurant is way out in the boonies. I am glad I went. Upon arrival you'll notice that the location of the place is really awkward. The restaurant is literally behind a shopping strip. At first glance it looked like a dead local business. The store sign was barely lit up, there is barely any light behind the windows and again, the whole dead local family strip wasn't helping the vibe either. My family and I then proceed to walk into the restaurant only to see that it is mostly empty (Though to be fair, we came in at around 5 PM, pretty early). We get sat down and we immediately ordered the wings. Wings where REALLY GOOD. Me personally, I love how they don't take it upon themselves to drown the wings in any kind of sauce (Some people say they under sauce, I disagree). The wings are crispy with the right amount of sauce. Awesome. I personally ordered Charlies New York Ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. I've been to a lot of different steak houses (Bugaboo,Longhorn, etc) and I was shocked when they cooked my steak right on the first try. (Depressing I know). For my sides I ordered french fries and perogies and they both were incredibly delicious. My mother ordered fish tacos and they came out perfect as well and my brother ordered a burger which was again, cooked perfect. You could tell the place actually cooked their food rather than simply warm it/fry it/ nuke it. To top of all off the dinner wasn't over the top expensive. (I've blown 60+ dollars at Bugaboo and well over 70+ at Longhorn). I ended up paying 51 bucks for dinner (not including tip). I am so glad that I finally convinced my family to go to this place because for well over a decade of living in Derwood, we have been missing out on this gem. They can expect to see my ugly mug in the near future.

Wings are delicious: crispy, piping hot, and perfectly sauced. Currently, the swirlin' variety are my favorite, but BBQ and regular buffalo are just as good. Love the no frills environment and the fact that I can gorge myself on wings sans judgement. The location is NOT that hard to find -- huge signage on the strip mall entrance. Keep an eye open!

This is a great family restaurant in Derwood. Great food. Anything from burgers to pasta and more. Great wings. Bartenders are quick with drinks and always remember your name. The place really gets packed when they have live music or a DJ but its always manageable. I really like the sign above the door for the bar that reads "Club Derwood". I went up to Outta during a power outage a few years ago and they had a grill going out front. Thanks guys! Derwood has to eat! Bartenders Duffy and Anthony are always funny and friendly.

Great little hole-in-the-wall Steeler bar! The place I first discovered Loose Cannon beer! During Steeler games this place is PACKED! The volume of people, however, speaks volumes to the quality of the beer, food, and atmosphere! The bartenders are more then qualified and the waitress (for the most part) are on their game!

My husband and I decided to check this place out because a friendly cab driver recommend this restaurant to me. He says this place has reasonable price entrees and friendly service. The restaurant is divided into two separate spaces: one side is the bar with many tv screens for different sport channels, the other side is a sit down eating area with a small stage for their karaoke night. We weren't there at the right time to witness the karaoke; so no comment on how that would have effected our dine-in experience. For dinner we ordered the regular american entree, steak and ribs, both were delicious and well cooked. However, the Chicken Tempura Tenders is my favorite at this restaurant. The chicken was moist and tender. It was finger licking delicious! Even though this is an appetizer dish, it is big enough to be a meal. We ordered too much food so we ended up taking the chicken tenders home. The next day, the tenders were still moist and juicy!

Not sure how this place has such a high review. We sat at the bar, which is separated from the dining room. Strange & unfriendly atmosphere in the dining room & the bar, needs a make-over! There was a smell of cleaning products mixed with bar matt. Ordered drafts Fat Tire & Sierra, $ 6.50 each. Burger $9 with provolone .50 & grilled onions .50. Chef cooked to a "true" medium, we were impressed. Not bad, wished bun was toasted so that it would have held up better, just lazy not to toast or warm the bun! Fries were the usual frozen variety, boring & bland. Wings sold by the pound at market price...$11.40...ouch! We should have asked the price first. Bartender asked if we wanted ranch or blue cheese, we said both not realizing that he was going to charge us .50 extra. We were not impressed with the fleassing, it would have been nice to have informed. Old bay wings were uninspired, ranch & blue cheese out of a jar....worse than awful! And we unknowingly paid extra for that yuck! Bartender was eating a cup of chili at the bar, while talking to regulars. Not proffesional or hygienic in my opinion. So glad that we will never be back!

So I was looking for somewhere different to go with a buddy of mine from work that would be half way from both out homes. We went there last night and I will be going back. Atmosphere is good with friendly patrons. Bar tenders were attentive and the food was good. I got the wings and I highly recommend getting them. It's in a shopping strip behind a Bank of America. It took me minute to find it but it only takes once. Can't wait to go back!

I enjoyed the barbecue ribs. The barbecue sauce has a delicious sweet/spicy smokey flavor. This cafe is really out of the way w/regards to DC/Bethesda residents. It has a strong neighborhood following, good service delivery & live music after 7pm. Visited 7/7/11

Been here several time and have never been disappointed. the place really fills up on weekends, best to have reservations. Good service and the price is right. Good Old American Food . Mostly regulars eat here ,and it seems they just keep coming back. Only one thing a little off crab dip a little salty.

(4)Jim T.
(5)Rebecca W.
Won't be back.

we were turned down because our friend had no sleeves on his shirt! if someone can explain why this is a fair rule i'll revoke my one star review! this place is not worth going "outta the way" for!

Had Sunday lunch here after church and it was a very good experience. The food was good and the bottomless mimosas weren't either. Prices were decent and I would definitely come back for another lunch date with my gf!

Great lunch. We went at an off hour - 2pm. Had pierogi for an appetizer- delicious! My husband loved his fish tacos. My steak salad was just as advertised- never had one with fries before. Service was great, decor was funky. Good local place.

Wonderful food, great atmosphere and attentive service! We had an event at the cafe a few months back and they were very accommodating and helpful. Will definitely go back!

They recently added a new flavor of wings to the menu. Not high on the hotness scale but awesome on flavor. Way to go Chip and Outta the Way. I certainly recommend giving them a try.

Great place, great food. My favorites are beef and chicken Chilli, the crab dip is super delicious. The Louisiana chicken strippers are definitely great specially on a salad, and the steak and cheese is also a favorite.
(5)Andra N.

As a Steelers fan, I used to love going here on game days but there are two regulars that are particularly loud fans that spew nothing but negativity in the bar area and ensure watching a game here will be a miserable experience.

Good happy hour specials. Bartenders are super friendly. Love the swing wings and fish tacos. Usually go on weekdays and sit at the bar.

Amazing night here new Years Eve. Three way shrimp was great. The band, Platform Soul has never sounded better.

(2)Monique W.
(2)Sandy R.

This place is so good, I've been coming here for a few years . This place has been my go to place for quite some time for a decent meal and brew. Food has actually gotten better since the last time I came!

Probably the absolutely best happy hour in the Derwood / Redland area. Food is really good too. Get the sliders - or the nachos. YUM.

This is a great location, friendly atmosphere and excellent food. I'd highly recommend going here. I typically get the buffalo chicken sandwich but my better half has gotten the chicken tempura which is also quite good. The only reason for my 2 stars is because I got a pitcher of bud light which ended up being $16 which I think is ridiculous.

Had Sunday lunch here after church and it was a very good experience. The food was good and the bottomless mimosas weren't either. Prices were decent and I would definitely come back for another lunch date with my gf!
(4)Jill I.
Great lunch. We went at an off hour - 2pm. Had pierogi for an appetizer- delicious! My husband loved his fish tacos. My steak salad was just as advertised- never had one with fries before. Service was great, decor was funky. Good local place.
(4)Donna H.
Wonderful food, great atmosphere and attentive service! We had an event at the cafe a few months back and they were very accommodating and helpful. Will definitely go back!
(5)M L.
(3)Stephen B.
So enjoyable. This is the type of local restaurant every community needs. Food is comforting, the sauce in Chip's wings is outstanding! Love the neighborhood feel. Love the fact they support the community. Music on Fridays and Saturdays. Just a great place to hang out.
(4)Rebecca F.
Great friendly service and yummy food make me definitely want to come back! I had the chicken chili which had just the right amount of spice! The spiced shrimp were fresh and steamed just right!
(5)Joe R.
The service in my experience has been pretty awful with unfriendly servers and overtly rude management. The menu is overpriced and the food isn't the best. I am amongst several friends and family who have agreed to boycott this established based on our many collective unpleasant experiences there.
(1)Kristen H.
(4)Jen R.
They recently added a new flavor of wings to the menu. Not high on the hotness scale but awesome on flavor. Way to go Chip and Outta the Way. I certainly recommend giving them a try.
(5)Yaz R.
Great place, great food. My favorites are beef and chicken Chilli, the crab dip is super delicious. The Louisiana chicken strippers are definitely great specially on a salad, and the steak and cheese is also a favorite.
(5)Rebecca W.
(2)Ricky N.
we were turned down because our friend had no sleeves on his shirt! if someone can explain why this is a fair rule i'll revoke my one star review! this place is not worth going "outta the way" for!

(4)Andra N.
(3)Seth L.
I'm not a fan of this place. The food is overpriced and underwhelming. The crowd is loud and obnoxious. The staff is unprofessional and about as helpful as an MVA employee. I recommend this place only if you're a rowdy redneck with nowhere else to go.
(1)Neil M.
(5)Kelly P.
Good wings & friendly service. But not great food
(3)Georgio S.

(4)John M.
Nice neighborhood hangout. Food was okay, but we stayed and listened to the live band and rocked the night away. Have been there several times and love it. Everyone knows everyone.
(4)Kate C.
(5)Johnna G.
(5)William S.
Great for steelers games. Great food all the time.
(4)Elizabeth B.
If you arrive at this location you have to order the Steak Salad it has to be the best thing on their menu! This restaurant has a down to earth feel and it has reasonable prices it also helps that some of my old high school friends work there
(5)Tammy D.

The Café (as the regulars call it) is home to cold beers, delicious bar food and a smiling staff. The bar area seats about 15-20 comfortably and provides plenty of standing room for those who want to watch the game (6-7 TVs) or catch it up with their favorite bartenders or old friends. Duffy and Anthony especially provide excellent bar service and are quick to remember your name and drink of choice. The food will not disappoint those looking for a quick and tasty bite. Be sure to try the Pierogies (sautéed in butter and onion and served with sour cream), the Tempura Shrimp (always cooked perfectly!), and lastly - ANYTHING in their swirling sauce (the perfect combination of sweet & spicy). The Café offers a small town vibe in a former small town.
(5)Aleksandra V.
By FAR the best wings south of Anchor Bar in NY, where they were invented. Yes. Mmmm. Big. Juicy. Perfect Sauce. All the flavors are awesome. They also have Loose Cannon on tap which is AWESOME. Keep on keepin on OTWC!
(5)Katherine S.
This is my favorite place to go in Derwood! The food is always great and the staff are always nice. It is THE place to be on Muncaster Mill.
(5)Pat B.
Been here several time and have never been disappointed. the place really fills up on weekends, best to have reservations. Good service and the price is right. Good Old American Food . Mostly regulars eat here ,and it seems they just keep coming back. Only one thing a little off crab dip a little salty.
(5)Patrick M.
(5)Chloe F.
I have some seriously mixed reviews about this place. I literally live across the parking lot from Outta, so it's trés convenient for me; that's a huge bonus. My roommate is a Steelers fan, and it's a Steelers bar; that's another huge bonus. Portions are big, that's good. Food is about average. The chicken strips used to be awesome, now I think they're just frozen and flash-fried. The bone-in wings are pretty good; everybody seems to love the swirlin' sauce. The tempura chicken strips are awesome. Whatever blue cheese dressing they serve is awesome too, nice and chunky. Can't say anything about the desserts, as we no longer eat in there: the service is AGONIZINGLY SLOW. Like another review mentioned, this place caters to regulars, and the waitstaff seems to spend a lot of time chatting at other tables. The barstaff is pretty friendly and much more timely. If they could improve the staffing, I would probably bump them up to 4 stars.
(3)Robert T.

(5)Becky T.

(4)Alex Y.
(5)Steph F.
(4)Peter J.
(5)Angel M.

Probably the absolutely best happy hour in the Derwood / Redland area. Food is really good too. Get the sliders - or the nachos. YUM.

Good wings & friendly service. But not great food

Service was fast and accurate. Food on all three plates was excellent. Salads are a little small as a main dish but imaginative and flavorful. We will be back! Especially half off bottles of wine on tuesday. I don't remember the last time I cleaned my plate.

Nice neighborhood hangout. Food was okay, but we stayed and listened to the live band and rocked the night away. Have been there several times and love it. Everyone knows everyone.

Great for steelers games. Great food all the time.

If you arrive at this location you have to order the Steak Salad it has to be the best thing on their menu! This restaurant has a down to earth feel and it has reasonable prices it also helps that some of my old high school friends work there

By FAR the best wings south of Anchor Bar in NY, where they were invented. Yes. Mmmm. Big. Juicy. Perfect Sauce. All the flavors are awesome. They also have Loose Cannon on tap which is AWESOME. Keep on keepin on OTWC!
