My experience with seafood places on the Bay has been spotty - the Crab Claw in St. Michael's has declined, Buddy's in Annapolis was never that good - so I was so very pleasantly surprised with our experience at Skipper's. We were initially a bit concerned that they close at 9pm (we often eat late), and that the overflow parking was crammed. But we were lucky and found a spot up front, walked in, and had no wait! On a Saturday night! Thanks be to the crab Gods! We sat outside, which was amazing, and knew right away we wanted steamed crabs. They had a dozen large for $75, which was great, though after eating three each we knew we had ordered too many. I would recommend a half dozen if you're ordering other things (corn, fries, etc.), or a dozen smalls or mediums. Fortunately, we took our extra home and made awesome crab omelets the next day. The beverage prices are on-point - I think my Boh was $3 or $4, which was awesome, and our server was attentive without being overbearing. We were even treated to a fireworks display across the creek! Skipper's is definitely the place to go for a good old Maryland crab feast!

A true gem on the bay. Eat here often and always love the food and service!! Great place to pull up in a boat or dinghy and grab a night on a weekend. Chef Jessica has done great things with an an inventive and well executed menu. Specialty drinks and desserts are especially good. Fish tacos and tuna ciabatta are perennial favorites. Order the latter rare. Don't miss this place!!

I've heard numerous good things about this place. My wife and I went last Friday and the view was gorgeous, and the service friendly, swift and professional. Unfortunately, the appetizers and entrees were on the not so great side. biscuits were raw and doughy - sent them back and we got new raw, doughy biscuits. (the hush puppies were just right). I had an order of fish and chips - flavorless and soggy. Thankfully small portions. Not small enough to stop food poisoning to kick in later that evening. Dessert of peanut butter pie and double chocolate smith island cake were wonderful. I'd happily go back for drinks and/or dessert, and to watch the sun go down over the water. No way I'd care to go back for anything else.

The view alone earns Skippers Pier 4 stars! The Country Gravy Poutine was amazing and the Chesapeake Chicken Club was very good. The only thing keeping this place from 5 stars was the service, it was very slow.
(4)Bianca A.
great food and awesome prices. Try the crab cakes!
(4)Steve G.
Love this place once again! The Management has the place looking Great inside and out. The Summer Salad w/Salmon and Calamari were Delicious. Bartender Jordan provided Excellent service and conversation. Well Done for Labor Day Saturday Thank You!
(4)Diana J.
Skippers Pier sits on the water and there's a dock for you to boat in and grab a meal. Overall the environment is a great place for cars food eating. We ordered a dozen medium crabs and mussels. The crabs were as good as you can steam crabs and sprinkle old bay on. But the mussels... Really good flavor but they were the teeniest I've ever seen... And service was slow and forgetful. This place was overall OKAY.
(2)Tim T.
Sat out on the new pier deck I don't like that you have to go up to the bar to get service at a table. If I'm sitting down the waitress should just come over to the table, giving my credit card is not a problem to secure the bill I'm sure they've had drunks walk out on there tabs. Ordered fish tacos they were great ask for some extra sour cream sauce on the side. Also had the rock fish dish had fried green tomatoes corn relish and crab meat it was also wonderful. We will return everything looks good.

We recently moved to the Chesapeake Bay area and have been looking for places on the water that have good food, in addition to an amazing view. This place did just that! We had the soft shell crab sandwich special - amazing, and the rockfish with fried green tomatoes. The food was perfect, and the view even better. Love that the restaurant has several options of where to sit-inside, patio, inside bar, or our favorite - the outside bar. The outside bar is covered, has several TVs. We'll definitely be back!
(5)K J.
The food was fantastic. Real crab in the crab balls and cake; and excellent Piña Coladas. Yum yum.
(4)Katie S.
3.5 stars. New management since the last time I had been here = better food and more options. The service is still painfully slow however, depending on who you get, so be prepared for that. They have the standard dock food: crabs, shrimp, mussels and oysters, plus lots of hearty options like steak and fried chicken. I love sitting outside on the deck and watching the sun set. Skippers is a must visit at least once if you find yourself in the area.
(3)Kayla E.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE skippers. The food is superb, the servers are kind and attentive (but not overly so) the scenery is gorgeous, the drinks are great. This is my favorite place in Maryland and we travel about 40 minutes to get there! Absolutely recommend :)
(5)Tricia W.
Went here on a Tuesday night and got the BBQ ribs and he fried shrimp dinner. The ribs were really good and so were the shrimp. They even had gluten free beer during happy hour so this was a good stop. The bartenders were really friendly and made suggestions on the food and they didn't steer us wrong. Great view of the water, good food and friendly people working there. What else do you need!
(4)Kimmie Z.
Worst service I've ever had. Sat outside on dock. Literally worst service ever. And cold soup. Blhhhhhhh
(1)Patty K.
Great Great Great! Went there for the first time, to celebrate our anniversary. Everything was wonderful! Great Band playing, my orange crush was perfect, and to top it off the food, (I ordered the tuna bites, and tomato mozzarella appetizer, my husband had a burger), was amazing, couldn't have been better!! The views were so beautiful, and relaxing. Everyone around us seemed to be having such a great time too. Long drive for us, but we will definitely will go back!
(5)Tom M.
Another five star day. New dock bar is fantastic. I tried fish po boy and crab crusted oysters today. Both win.
(5)Brent F.
Another review that doesn't appear anymore. Not sure what is happening here... Food and service is excellent. Dining on the dock (not in winter) is amazing. This is our go-to for seafood.
(5)Kim S.
This restaurant is a hidden gem in Deale, Md! Great food, service, and location on the pier. I enjoyed the crab balls, oysters, and crab cakes sandwich!
(4)Kathy A.
The fried oysters were yummy. The king crab legs were (unfortunately) served with faux butter and by the time the real thing came, the crab legs were cold. While I understand they're slammed on a Saturday night, we had more attention from servers other than our own. The butter thing took a very decent meal to sub par. Oil with crab legs is not what I'd pay for... ever!
(3)K s.
YUM xoxox I LOVE Skippers Pier their food is amazing - favorites - fried green tomatoes, crab dip and Chicken Cobb salad -
(5)Lynne S.
This restaurant is an absolute gem in the quaint town of Deale, MD. The restaurant is at the end of a street in a very quiet and lovely beach community where folks in their yards wave to you as you pass them by. The restaurant...it's very casual and the staff are friendly and accommodating. There is outdoor seating (picnic tables) with umbrellas. It's a perfect location for enjoying good seafood on a nice, sunny day, afternoon or evening. The drinks....on point. I ordered a dirty banana and my beaufriend ordered a piña colada. They were perfectly blended with just the right amount of alcohol. The food....absolutely fabulous! We ordered two appetizers 1) the pups and biscuits that were too yummy for words and 2) the crab balls that were amazing (and fried) with no filler. YUMMY!! I ordered the Alaskan King Crab steamer that includes red potatoes and white corn soaking in a scrumptious garlicky butter concoction (melted in my mouth!!) The King Crabs were amazing! Very sweet and fresh! The corn and potatoes were fresh and delicious too! The meal also came with tasty garlic bread. There was NO way I could finish all of that food, so I took what WE couldn't eat, home. My beaufriend ordered the blackened crabcake sandwich that was seasoned to perfection! The sandwich was accompanied by perfectly seasoned fries! Delicious! We will DEFINITIVELY return to order more off of the extensive menu to include crabs. Based on the crab orders from other patrons, they looked perfectly seasoned and fresh as well! Great find!! The service was outstanding too!
(5)Emily J.
This place was amazing!!! Everything we ordered was incredible. We can't wait to go back!!
(5)Stacy Y.
A fun casual seafood eatery. It is located right on the Chesapeake and service is generally okay. The orange crush is delicious and they have specials on different days of the week. We went on a Tuesday evening for $2.50 crabs and $2 beers. 4 stars.
(4)Michael L.
Based upon the positive reviews, we gave it a try. We started with the crab balls appetizer which tasted as if the fryer oil was old and the crabmeat didn't taste that fresh. I had higher hopes for my broiled crabcake sandwich but there again was that off flavor of the crabmeat. My girlfriend's shrimp poboy sandwich had breaded shrimp with part of the tails still on the shrimp. As for the highlights, the bloody mary was tasty and the service was attentive, the view was nice and there was live music. . Cleanliness of the restaurant including the mens bathroom could have been better. This place is best for boaters that don't want to dirty their galleys and landlubbers looking for a happy hour with live music.
(2)Robert M.
Nice service. Crabs are plump and reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere. No wait. Very laid back atmosphere and easy pretty drive from Alexandria. Great view from the deck.
(5)Josh L.
We live about an hour from this restaurant and questioned whether the food and setting would be worth the trip. IT WAS! The crabs were perfectly cooked; there is an extensive list of a wide variety of beers; the rockfish was absolutely fresh and tasty; so, too, the mussels. The wait staff was friendly and prompt. And the view from the water -- can't be beat. We plan to return soon.
(4)Jimmy C.
After a day of fishing - this is a must stop! I mean come on the dock is right there!!! For your apps- you can't go wrong with the Tuna Bites ( get it rare or med-rare ) and the Crab Balls ( like mini crab cakes ). Fish tacos was good- and 3 orders of Rockfish was eaten up! Friendly service, good food, drinks- bay water in he air... What else do you want?
(5)Christine V.
LOVE the new dock bar! Great food and just a great place to go for a meal, happy hour, and just when you need to relax!
(5)Kimberly V.
Lately, I've been underwhelmed with their food. It's a great location for sitting by the water, but, I typically leave unimpressed. Tonight on the deck...it's a bit buggy, and the waiter, although nice, is very slow. I was happy to see they now offer grilled fish tacos vs just fried, but when it finally arrived...the soft tortilla was petrified like it had been sitting on the shelf forever, and the fish was salty and mushy. All that wait time...and can't even eat dinner. My husband got the bottomless mussels, and they were good, but they were delivered without the bread they promised for the first order, and in the half hour we sat here waiting for our food, he still hasn't come back to take another refill order for the bottomless promise. My son ordered the pork and bark...and that was very tasty. The pup and biscuit appetizer was good...very thankful I ordered that to satisfy my hunger. My friends ordered the crab legs and raw oysters. Both were gritty, and neither bothered finishing them. Sweet Tea was really good. I had to write this review while waiting for my husbands other order of mussels...still nothing...$18 for one bowl. Oh wait...there is the other order...45 minutes after the first delivery. Was going to give two stars, but on a nice night, it truly is a beautiful place to be.

I heard there is new management--and the food was awesome, so good moves there. The menu even had so many things I didn't get a chance to try and will have to come back for. We got the blackened fish tacos, fried green tomatoes with delicious sauce and shrimp, crab dip, fried pickles, and stuffed jalapenos...and were happy with everything. The ambiance was perfect, right on the water with the sun. My only complaint is that the waitress seemed annoyed that that was all we ordered--a bunch of appetizers instead of entrees--and kept looking at us like we were going to order more, but we had to say twice, "No we're ordering a little at a time." Will definitely be back though, for the view and the food!
(4)Eric K.
I went fishing on Miss Susie out of Deale. We had a great day with Captain Greg and crew, catching limits of striper, or rockfish they are called here. Captain Greg "hooked" us up with Skipper's, who made a great meal out of our fresh caught fish, paired with fresh vegetables, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, crab crusted oysters and crab bruschetta! It doesn't get any better than this.

We love to visit Skipper's Pier for the sunsets and relaxing atmosphere. The owners are wonderful people and we enjoy speaking with them as well. The food quality is outstanding and the service is always friendly. Yesterday, Friday, May 22 we visited the restaurant and was looking forward to the famous Dock Nachos a days relaxing by the sunset. We were very disappointed to see the nachos were cut from the menu. Please bring them back and if they were a problem with the kit hen staff, you need a better kitchen staff. Nachos are easy, even when customized. The staff not being able to handle nachos is a poor excuse when even Applebee's staff can handle them. Please listen to your clientele and put nachos on the menu.
(4)Allison F.
Skipper's Pier was amazing for our rehearsal dinner. Jessica Roberge was phenomenal to work with- the food was amazing. All of the staff were helpful and easy to work with. They were able to hook up our rehearsal dinner video to the televisions up high in the main room. The weather was gorgeous and everyone had a great time. I loved having our rehearsal dinner there and we will return for our 1 year anniversary next May 30th! Thank you everyone who helped make our rehearsal dinner and wedding a great success! It was perfect!
(5)Linda F.
Started with the biscuit's and pups, pretty good and I enjoyed the Cobb salad while my husband and MIL had shrimp poboy and shrimp basket. Both said it was very good. The only think is it was quite cold in the restaurant which made it tough to enjoy my food while shivering? The bread pudding with banana sauce was wonderful! Will plan to come back when we can sit outside in the warmth!
(4)Vondria S.
Loved it! Beautiful location, childrens outdoor play area with sand and climbing ship which is amazing for toddlers who go crazy waiting for meals! Super clean with outdoor seating and 2 indoor areas by the bar or off in a quiet area so no matter who's coming it's great! Off the beaten path definitely need GPS. ..

Thank you Yelp! This gem is at the end of a tiny obscure road which we never would have found on our own. We sat outside on the wooden deck overlooking the bay and the floating bar. There were gulls and children buzzing about. The waitstaff was young but friendly and helpful. Our waitress warned us off of the blue crab because it was not local and therefore very expensive. We started with the mussels in a garlic lemon broth. Delicious! We ordered more bread ($1 hot mini loaf) to soak up the juice. The crab bruschetta was a half of a mini loaf loaded with crab, tomatoes, and pesto. Next came boiled shrimp and hush puppies. The hush puppies contained corn kernels and were served with a cinnamon butter. Definitely a must eat. The waitress urged us to try their new dessert menu but we were much too full. The deck runs the full length of the restaurant and was full even on a cloudy late Sunday afternoon in May. Most of the guests appeared to be local and the menu was priced accordingly. Check this one out!

Visiting from out of state and not alot of places to eat in the area made it an obvious stop. My in laws came about a week earlier and docked at the marina across the way. They said we would need to have the seafood buffet. Wow, it was great. Good variety from salmon to crab, oysters, swordfish, shrimp, pasta, salad, and desserts. The food and view was very good, no doubt about that. There appeared to be about 3 times the number of waitresses and greeters than what they needed so they all kind of congregated at the front door to chat with one another which is kind of annoying as a patron. My only major complaint and the reason for a four star and not a five is the god awful smell from the dumpsters in the parking lot. I understand logistics is difficult with parking on limited area and dumpsters are a necessity but the entire walk through the parking lot was like a huge warning sign to not enter, I'm glad we did but it smelled like a combination of rotting fish, cat urine, and what I imagine is how a real life (or would it be dead) zombie would smell. Get past the smell, worth the trip.
(4)Mel A.
Great great view. Really nice menu with lots of options and even a GF and V considerations. Rare in the area. The fact that there are V options at all much appreciated. (Not a ton of options just a couple) The most progressive menu in the area hands down. Service this summer has been great. The new dock bar is good enough but I miss the character of the old one. If you don't like loud go up top on the dock bar. Great spot.
(4)Tracy R.
This was ok for a waterfront restaurant, but nothing really stood out to make it memorable. Service was a bit slow as it was not that busy, but the waitress was nice. I had the shrimp and grits. It was very tasty but not my favorite in comparison to local competition. Parking was very cramped, hard to turn around and get a good angle to get into a spot easily.
(3)Christopher J.
My Dad lives in Annapolis, and I live in Patuxent River, so this is a perfect meeting place for the both of us if we want to grab a weekday dinner together. We've met here twice now over the past couple weeks, and been very pleased both times. Good food, good customer service, and the atmosphere is perfect - especially if the night is warm enough to sit outside on the water and watch the boats come in to the marina (or go out into the bay) while relaxing. Their Old Bay bloody mary is delicious! What an original and delicious drink concoction that is - if you're legal drinking age and enjoy a good bloody mary, this one HAS to be tried. I do have two complaints about Skipper's. One is that the parking lot is so small it's silly, and you have to park about 1/8th mile down the road if the restaurant is even mildly busy. The walk isn't a big deal, but the situation is kind of a hassle. The second complaint is the beer menu. Usually when places have good food (and crabs) in MD, they have a decent beer selection, and this one is definitely lacking. I can handle the parking situation, no big deal - but they have to add some beers to the menu! Also, I mark noise level as "LOUD" because if you're seated outside, there is a bar within 50 feet of the restaurant, and the noise from there easily carries over into Skipper's.
(5)Donald M.
Boated over last night by dinghy from Herrington Harbor North Marina. Busy, as expected, but we took a table inside and sat down immediately. Service was very good. Only complaint was that the 4 of us ordered the same entree (blackened tune) which was very good. Always a favorite stop when we are in the area.
(4)Danette W.
Wow. This place is a hidden treasure. The wait staff are very friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic. They have daily fresh specials of course. I got a large bowl of garlic wine mussels for 10 dollars. It's also located off the water with an open air setting. I will be returning.
(5)Brie W.
Dear Skippers Owners - Your place is great, everything you have done has been amazing. Your bartenders work their butts off but you have one individual that barely works and when he does, it's for regulars. Oh and he rarely puts their orders in the POS. Good luck but you are being robbed by a male bartender on the pier who has been there for years. Get rid of him and keep making this place awesome.
(3)Dan H.
I'd like to call them out for 'truth in advertising'! I guess I'm jaded from eating in ocean-side joints on the Gulf and Pacific coasts so when the menu says "a heaping pile"...I expect a jumble of seafood!! Not what I received which was what would be described as a "scant" serving of seafoods...there was no elevation to call it a pile and the plate could clearly be seen throughout the middle. 4 shrimp? I mean that's kind of the go-to for bulk on the cheap. If the fries weren't there it would have looked pathetic. For $24.50 you get 4 shrimp, 3 tiny crab cake nuggets, a small fillet of fish (sole or flounder?), 3 oysters (I ordered mine raw...they came out all dry...?), fries and a little coleslaw if you think that's food vice a garnish. So I'm clearly not impressed. The food was average as was the service (though she was very nice). We also got a crab cake platter - it was unremarkable and I wouldn't advise getting the cheddar grits as a side.
(3)Don W.
Wow what a hidden gem in southern Maryland! This is our new favorite place to eat now. We had the crab pretzel which was better than Davies pub in Annapolis. Everything is fresh and the owners are very personable! This place is clean, the staff members are nice, and the view is great.... All of this with great delicious food.
(5)Erin R.
Found this place on yelp - it was pretty good! We ordered crab stuffed, bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers to start which were down right delicious. Spicy, salty, crabby, yummy. My sammy was ok - I had the turkey club which just didn't sit right in terms of flavor mix, possibly overly ambitious on the ingredients? Fiance *loved* his Chesapeake chicken, chicken topped with creamy crab and bacon served on a pretzel roll. I think the pretzel roll gave it that extra umph. The 'seasoned fries' weren't seasoned but they happily provided a side of old bay for me to smother them with. I'm also a fan of the $3-$4 beer selections.
(4)P D.
Excellent meal. Had Crab Cake sandwich. Huge portion with no filler. Excellent service with an even better view. Highly recommend.
(5)Jay T.
Friendly and inviting atmohsohere. I enjoyed our meals thoroughly. Price and quality were definitely on par. I would come back in a heart beat. I ordered the backed oysters with crab and cheese on too. Very yummy. Then I ate the leg steamer with potatoes and corn...so much food and not expensive!
(5)Grace B.
Friendly assertive staff, nice view. I would give them more stars if every time I got crabs here they weren't mushy. They prob reheated them a few times and then become overcooked crab baby food. I'm sorry but this is a Maryland restaurant on the water they should know better.
(3)Oscar W.
The view of the water was wonderful. Great atmosphere. Had the bucket of crab legs, very tasty. The table seating not to my liking, service good.. I will be back!
(4)L K.
Absolutely, hands down, the very best Alaskan King Crab ever! This is a must see and dine in restaurant. Casual dining with amazing seafood being served to every table. Excellent pricing was a bonus! We will definately return and recommend to family and friends. Service was great. Owner Dave, was humble and gracious. We dined inside and it was perfect. Will eat outdoors on the waterside deck or attached pier next visit. I do not write reviews, but this restaurant is so nestled on the water in Deale, Md, word of mouth is the only way to give Skipper's Pier an appropriate shout out for their fine food. The perfect dinner on a Sunday evening just before sunset. Bring your camera!
(5)Dave S.
Decent food. Service a tad slow but still ok. I had the bacon burger and was very pleased with it. Ketchup on the table and malt vinegar available for the fries - good stuff. My boat is on the hard at HHN so I'll be back to Skipper's Pier.
(3)Jennifer K.
Love this place. The food- the atmosphere- the staff- the view- the laid back style- the parking.
(5)J M.
Way cool place. Just what I (most people) are looking for in the area. Deck eating overlooking marina... Casual, easy BUT GREAT GREAT food. Inside or outside dining. A Bit pricey, but that's what good food costs.
(5)Anne D.
I live Amish country of PA and my boyfriend lives in DC. Each of us likes to get away and try something new so the last time I was in DC to spend the weekend, we jumped in the car and drove to the Chesapeake Bay Beach to enjoy the last beautiful day of the year. We ended up at Skippers Pier for brunch just as they were opening on Sunday. I had the Bay Trio, he had the fish tacos and we shared garlic mussels. We each had mimosas. We sat on the dock with boats all around on a beautiful day and it was a perfect experience. Service was great, food was amazingly delicious, and it was everything I dreamed of for one of the last beautiful days of the year.
(5)M T.
Loved that you can come by boat and hang out at the bar on the dock. Great setting, drinks and fantastic food!
(5)Jessie B.
We visited this past Saturday after they had reopened. They have changed their menu a bit, discontinuing some items and increased the prices. Their dock bar is now open with live music - see their calendar. The two singers they had last weekend were average. My husband ordered the Seafood platter as he always does. The new seafood platter contains, fried shrimp, oysters, mini crab cakes and catfish fillet ($27?). I tried some of the items - the oysters were smaller than last time, but ok. I think they may have also changed the batter they fry it in. It came with tartar and cocktail sauce along with a side of fries. The catfish was awful - thick and mushy. I heard that the new management will be using "local sustainable" food from local farmers and local fisherman...not sure if "catfish" is a local fish in our area. They would be better off going back to the flounder or trying rockfish/bass. My son in law ordered the seafood nachos...boy did they look good. They come with shrimp scallops and crab meat on top of typical nacho cheese, pico de gallo and lettuce tomato. It ran around $15 but was well worth it. My daughter ordered the Angus burger (she's not much of a seafood person) and she said it was delicious. She also ordered the cheese & grits and loved them. I ordered 1/2 dozen medium crabs ($45/doz so $23.50/half doz.), corn fritters (aka hush puppies) and a side salad. The crabs weren't very heavy, but it is early in the season. One of them was bright green inside (I didn't eat that one!). The corn fritters actually have kernels of corn in them. The salad was typical chopped lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion and tomato. They do still offer the Orange Crush and make it well. I have to say that the service was much better than it was, but this may be because its a new staff trying to make an impression. Nothing much has changed with the decor with the exception of them placing large planters where the motorcycles use to park. Since there is already limited parking, when we take our bike, we feel kinda bad about taking a whole spot. The kid sand area is the same and I love the sign that is posted to the "ship" that says no climbing...really? LOL They could also use an ashtray out front for the smokers - butts are on the ground. Overall, I'm not too excited over the new menu. A couple of the items I really liked are no longer on there. I love the location on the water and hope that the food improves. I'll be back to try something else on the menu and keep this post updated.
(3)Peter B.
Great location especially when you sit out on the dock at sunset. The seafood was fresh, of course, and well prepared. The drinks were well done, tasty and reasonably potent. Our blue crab was a bit overcooked, and for some reason they no longer have bibs. A bib is really nice when you are hammering crab on the table with a wooden mallet. We made do with plastic take out bags.
(4)Bro H.
Great location, but the food wasn't great. Did not enjoy plowing through un-deveined shrimp that I could have gotten at a suburban Giant for half the price, and the fried stuff was underseasoned and a little soggy. If it's not a nice day out, there is zero reason to be here.
(2)J K.
This was my first time here after listening to many other locals talk about this place. It was a Saturday evening so business was brisk. We waited for a table in the bar and were pleasantly surprised with the bartender taking time to not only get our drinks but engage in conversation on a day where she had lots of customers and plenty to do. As I watched her work, it was apparent she was enjoying herself and happy workers are productive workers. This shined through in her service to everyone including the servers who lined up at her service window to get drinks for tables. She took care of everyone effortlessly and with a smile. A good start. As we made it to our seats, the sun was going down and the view was great. Ordering was quick and drinks came fast. We did have a hiccup in service since we had to wait a bit longer than expected for our appetizer to appear. It was hot and delicious, but I had the feeling the server (not ours) might have forgotten to bring it right away since our meal appeared seconds afterward. This was the only issue in the entire visit. The meal was great and we had a nightcap on the top deck of the pier bar that is separated from the main building. What a nice evening!
(4)Christine B.
This our second time here this summer. We were here 2 weeks ago and had a less than par experience. The server was not knowledgeable of anything! He could not tell us what was in the aioli nor what the oil used in the frier was. Additionally, he argued with our friend as to whether she should receive garlic bread with her steamed shrimp (menu states it comes with). He was less than attentive to us. As I sit at Skipper's now, it is a Friday, the seafood buffet night. First of all, completely disappointed that the crab legs are no longer included and that the oil used a soy blend (I have an allergy). Again we have a server who is less than knowledgeable. He told us that for $8, we could add unlimited crab legs to the buffet. Turns out this is untrue. When asked for seafood suggestions, he said that he's a "hot dog" kind of guy. Really? Not the response you would expect at a seafood restaurant! The one positive, my husband thinks the fried oysters are awesome! (Wish I could try them!) Maybe we will try coming here one more time? Third time's a charm?
(2)Geoffrey R.
The thing that really sells this place is the location right out on the water in Deale. The bar at the end of the dock is the spot to be, inside it's pretty generic. The prices for drinks and food are all about a dollar or two more than I'd expect ($7 for fried pickles!?) but the food is quite good - I've never ordered anything I didn't think was good. The service really varies, but from my experience the waitstaff on the inside (boring area) is really friendly but the bartenders out on the dock (cool area) are pretty moody ladies. I've never been out there when they've been particularly friendly and often give a bit of attitude which is unexpected in such a chill spot. All in all can't complain too much, great location, good food, slightly overpriced and spotty service - especially at the bar.

Poor quality food and the service is hit or miss. Ive had the po boy, maryland crab, burger, mussels, etc and they all seem to be premade/made from frozen/sloppy/lacking in essential ingredients.

I love sitting outside eating at a restaurant on a dock on warm afternoon -- and Skippers has such tables. At 4:30pm on 9/21/12, all the tables had sun but the temp was low 80s and it didn't bother us too much. This place is huge. A bar farther out on the water and a bar inside, tables outside and tables inside. We had good food and good service. So I'd go back. But for some negatives: The happy hour drink prices applied to the far out bar, not to people sitting at tables on the dock. The regular beverages (e.g., iced tea) were listed on the menu without prices. Please give me prices! As another person said, everything is a couple bucks more than you'd pay somewhere else. So be ready for that. And get this, people can put their boat up to the dock that the restaurant tables are on. So a guy in a speed boat plowed head into the dock where I was sitting. My first thought was that I didn't want the dock to collapse with me ending up in the water -- but the dock readily withstood the crash from the speed boat. Nevertheless, it was unsettling. Perhaps having dock hands available would have helped prevent that mishap. Or perhaps the visiting boats could use alternate docks that were empty and not near diners. A friend had the steamed shrimp and said they were good like Pusser's, but not quite up to the awesome level of some very fresh, well-seasoned shrimp she had at Kentmorr. My iced tea was wonderful. I ordered nachos with seafood and liked it. Small shrimp, small scallops and pieces of crab, with cheese and guacamole. I would have liked a few pieces of bigger shrimp or scallops for the price. Another friend had the crab cake platter. She noticed that although it contained some lumps of crabmeat, it had a lot of thinner pieces of crabmeat than she had seen at other restaurants. She couldn't decide whether those pieces contributed to a better or worse flavor, however. I you want to sit outside in Deale, try the restaurant. Just be prepared to pay a few bucks more than elsewhere.

A find for those with gluten sensiitviity issues. An unbeatable location, friendly staff, and excellent food. Plus they understand about gluten and other food sensitivity problems.

Fantastic food that is exquisitely presented. We love the variety on the menu and the attention to detail. The service is always five star and tonight the peanut butter pie was HEAVEN. Thank you Dave and Jessica for making Skippers Pier a regular for our family!!

I was very pleased with this restaurant. It had a casual laid back feel since it was right on the water. The food was great. We had the grilled trout, fried oyster sandwich, and a few sides. All of them were great! We're looking forward to going back soon and trying more on the menu.

The best crabs I have had in years, big, meaty and perfectly seasoned.

We visited this place after the sun went down and while it was cold so we didn't get a feel for the "ambiance" of the waterfront location. It may be a better place during the warmer months as the atmosphere and lighting reminded me a bit of a VFW hall. Nevertheless, we were there to try out their Friday night all you can eat seafood buffet since we had three green berets in training visiting from Fort Bragg. Since my cupboards were wearing thin, I thought that an endless meal might be just the ticket to satisfy these guys. For $22.99/pp the selection was very good, from cream of crab soup, hushpuppies, salmon, and catfish to fried oysters, steamed shrimp and snow crab legs with oodles of things in between. The place was packed so that meant good turn around on the items displayed which arrived pretty fresh and hot for the most part. Biggest zing is that they ran out of crab legs one hour before the buffet was to end. I realize they can't always control this, but it was a bummer since our clan had only a taste of these crustaceans before they disappered. It is hard to blame the restaurant however, since the crowd was obviously making a continuous bee line for the legs. It was almost embarrassing to watch the towers of crab going by. (That's why I rarely go to these types of feeding frenzies). Anyway, everyone was pretty pleased regardless, and we look forward to going back when we can actually enjoy the outside and the views.

Great place for a meeting! The private room by the bar is bright, with a window wall providing a great view of the water and nearby marinas. The room comfortably seats at least 30, classroom style. Jessica, the manager's wife and chef, prepared FABULOUS breakfast pastries and all were out and beautifully displayed when we arrived - no last minute hustling, they were ready! David, the manager, was extremely cordial and attentive to our group's every need. After the meeting, tables and chairs were quickly put back in place and servers stepped up to take lunch orders without missing a beat. Tuna Ciabatta, Chesapeake Chicken, Oyster Po' Boys, and Chesapeake Cream of Crab soup all got rave reviews for flavor and portion size. Skipper's Pier is a wonderful venue for your next meeting or larger event (they had a 50th anniversary party going on at the same time and nobody was panicking!) or just a delicious meal by the water any time. Kudos to David and Jessica - a fine young couple running a first-rate establishment!

My husband and I were there this past weekend with another couple. The orange crush and oysters were the best thing! We had crab cakes (couldn't finish eating so much of some spice) also ordered Fish and Chips. The batter on the flounder looked like onion ring batter!!! We had to peel it all off and the fish was mush. The fried clams were a good try for Maryland not the real kind of batter used in New England. They were tasty but so greasy. The crab cake pretzel was tasty but very sticky in your mouth. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who really is into quality seafood preparation and cooking. Our lunch for 4 came to 159.00 wow!!! Of course the waiter got a great 20% tip from us even though he forgot to bring the melted butter for the oysters. The view was great!!!! The parking is terrible.

This is a great spot to sit outside overlooking the water and enjoy local seafood. I tried the steamed oysters and the fried crabcake and both were very good. Service was quite slow, however, I still gave 5 stars because the location is unbeatable for scenery and food combination. Prices were reasonable.

Amazing how subjective these reviews can really be - a review from Kasandra S just a week or so before our first visit yielded a string of negatives from the service, to the food. My wife and I had a MUCH different experience last Friday night at Skippers and it was my first time there ever - I'm amazed I've 'skipped' over this apparent gem all this time. We will definitely be back. First a reviewer mentioned the place reminded them of a VFW hall in decor - nothing could be further from the truth. It was open, airy, and bright with lots of windows. It was almost too bright as those in the sun were getting baked early in the evening. Also someone mentioned the bathrooms were filthy - they were anything but when we were there. As for the food first they have whole fried ipswich clams on the menu. These things are all over New England but virtually impossible to find in the area where Skippers is. Ironic considering they're plentiful here and any seafood lover LOVES the whole fried clam. They were perfectly done, not greasy and simply fabulous. Previously the only other place I knew to get these was Harris' on Kent Island. No more going over the bridge for whole belly clams for me yay! They had their signature $22.95 AUCE seafood buffet and while I'm not a big buffet fan this one looked pretty darn good and I'll be trying that next time. There was also someone tending to the buffet by walkie-talkie and he was barking to the kitchen I assume what they needed to replenish next - seemed to be a top notch managed operation to me. Service was also questioned by several reviewers and ours was above average and better and not just by our particular waiter (Sean C) but by the entire staff. It wasn't 'slammed' at the time we were there but it was busy and getting busier all the time up to when we left. My wife doesn't do seafood but she can review the landlubbers menus at these places pretty well so I can say the potato skins and caesar salad were well to her liking lol. The potato skins had onions on them which is a bit ununsual - I tried one and it was ... a potato skin hehe. They had several specials including grilled Cobia which you don't see on menus at least around here often so I went for that. Served with one side (I had fried green tomatoes which were great), and topped with a chili-garlic glaze. Fish was a generous portion, perfectly done, and bright in flavor and moist and flaky in texture. Our drinks never went dry and the service was good enough to get 20% gratuity out of me and that don't happen often. So maybe we got lucky who knows but Skippers is definitely on our Friday night dinner rotation in our area here. I can't wait to try it out again later in the evening when we can sit outside. If I have reason to update this review negatively I sure will but I have to solidly disagree with any of the negative reviews here. Maybe in 2 weeks they turned over chef, wait staff, menu, ownership and plumbers! But I somehow doubt it! :) NOT VERY humbly yours, D. Food Snob, Ph.D.

So let's start off that this place has some potential. But it needs to be better staffed, food is ok, and I can only say this because 2 of the 3 things that I wanted was not available on the menu. If this place just did what they should be doing it would rock, I love Dockside bars, and this place is not cutting it.

I just got back from my first experience at Skippers Pier and am eating pizza...you may be asking yourself, why am I eating pizza after visiting a restaurant that clearly does not serve pizza? Let me explain... Upon arrival, I could see this was a popular place. A great location with a beautiful view of the Maryland sunset. After short wait at their pierside bar, my party of 5 was seated. I'm visiting home from San Diego and was so excited to finally be able to pick some Maryland blue crabs. I got my bottle of Yuengling (which they don't ship west of the Mississippi), and was ready for a true Maryland seafood feast. I ordered an oyster shooter, a half-dozen crabs to share, and their coveted shrimp and cheese grits, which is a rare dish to find in Maryland. The crabs came out quickly and I was in heaven. They were steamed to perfection with all the proper fixings. This meal was off to a great start... About half way through my second crab, still not having received my oyster shooter or the other appetizers ordered by the rest in my group, our entrees were unexpectedly delivered. The wait staff had botched our order. The bus boy seemed confused when we inquired about the rest of our appetizers that we still had not received. When we requested that they send the entrees back and bring us our appetizers, chaos ensued. We were notified by the manager that this was out of the question, and that we could basically take it or leave it. We decided to leave it... Ultimately, it was not a completely horrible experience. As I mentioned above, the food we did receive was outstanding (the best crabs I've gotten from equivalent places), and a fantastic menu. In addition, the restaurant did not charge us for the mistakes they made. I would definitely give this place a second chance, but for now, due to the poor service and the fact I had to leave hungry, my rating will stay at 2 stars until I return again.

Since the restaurant changed hands in the beginning of May, the food has gone from above average to barely average and the CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. I waited 45 minutes for a cup of water. They move people thru there like cattle and have about as much respect for their customers as they would cows. Another place to merely put up with for the view. As a resident of Deale, I am sorely discouraged.
(3)Jamie J.
i have friends that live within walking distance of skippers. sometimes we order crabs for take-away, but i love visiting the restaurant too. They have a nice little two-level bar outside on the docks and it is pretty fun to sit there and watch the boats come and go during the day. the constant turn over of patrons also ensures a steady stream of entertaining customers. the food is good. like i said, we usually get crabs, but i've also eaten the crab cake sandwich (real jumbo lump - no filler) and the fish tacos. both entrees are delicious. two downsides - the outdoor bar closes at 9pm and very limited parking (including the lot down the road). despite those minor shortfalls, i will still insist at starting a friday or saturday night with some crabs/seafood from skippers!

If you're not from Maryland and you want to know what all the hype is with eating blue crabs, this is a great place to experience it! Deale MD is a small town with a marina on the water, not far at all from the DC area. Skippers Pier is the perfect environment if you're looking to pick some blue crabs in t-shirt, shorts and sandals. There's nothing fancy about this place, but then again, there's nothing fancy about picking crabs. We ordered steamed clams, oysters, and a dozen mixed medium crabs. The crabs were perfectly seasoned and cooked...could be the best I've ever had. We had a table out on their back deck, over the water. Just off the deck is a short pier that leads to a boat house type bar where they have live music and the most amazing signature drink, Orange Crush...or something like that. After 2 of them, i forgot the name. This was my first time here and I got what I came for, and some. Looking forward to sampling some of the other menu options next time around!

What a nice surprise. We were just exploring on a Saturday, when we saw a small road sign pointing to Deale MD and referring to Skipper's Pier restaurant. Deal is a small town on Rockhold Creek, near the Chesapeake Bay, south of Annapolis. The center of the town appears to be the large marina, and Skippers Pier is the only restaurant overlooking the marina. An informal restaurant, it's wall of glass windows give you a good view of the hundreds of boats, and in the summer, extensive deck seating is available. The large number of diners, and the fascinating menu gave us a clue that we were not in just any old restaurant. My wife had fresh founder and ginger cole slaw (obviously home made and delicious) - they were excellent. I had one of their signature dishes, barbecued shrimp, cheese grits, and collard greens. Although the barbecue tended to be a bit much for the shrimp, the greens and the grits more than made up for it. And the shrimps, while not prepared to my liking, were themselves large and tasty, and you got six of them. Obviously not on the main road to anywhere, but well worth looking out for and trying.

Great place! All-U-Can Eat crabs is the BEST! Great view of marina great service Always fresh seafood

Skippers is great place tucked away on the water. The food and service where great !

Went to dinner with friends at Skippers Pier. I got the crab soup and big boss. A filet with shrimp and crab. My wife got the crab soup and Chesapeake chicken. The new owner stopped by and talked to us after dinner. Good food and atmosphere.

Our bicycling group of 24 arrived here unannounced and without a reservation asking for separate checks. They never missed a beat, seating us outside and together. Wait staff immediately asked how many might be eating at the buffet so they could ramp it up. We had a great meal including soft shell crabs and some of the best stuffed jalapeños I have ever had (and I'm from New Mexico). The staff was great, the food excellent and everybody got separate checks with zero hassle.

We wanted to find a great MD seafood place on the water and this place fit the bill! Awesome. Outdoor seating is the bomb on a good day. Live music from the far deck/bar area was wonderful in the background. Nice seeing all the boats coming in as well. First time eating steamed blue craps. Our waitress (Laura?) was wonderful and gave us a full class on disassembling the crab and obtaining the most crab meat possible. We also ordered a dozen oysters (2 different types). All was very fresh and wonderful. It is a little tricky to find and if full, you may have to park at the marina down the street and walk football field distance back. But it is part of the adventure and well worth it. Can not wait to bring more visitors to the area here later this summer.

First of all I have to admit that a good friend of mine is good friends with one of the managers, or the owner. With that said I still have never had a poor meal at Skipper's. The seafood buffet was great. Loved the snow-crab legs! Had a great afternoon hanging out on the dock bar as well. Great ambiance and good servers at the bar.
(4)Angela T.
I"ve been going to Skipper's for several years now. Love the food. Can't say enough good things about the food - I actually don't think I've ever had a bad meal here. They had a great Sunday brunch for awhile but sadly they stopped that not long ago. The seafood buffet on Friday night is good, lots of options, always well stocked and well priced ($22.99). The calamari, cream of crab soup and shrimp n' grits are among my favorites. The shrimp n' grits in particular is a must try! So why only three starts if I have such wonderful things to say about the food? The service, it's awful, consistently awful. I've been to Skipper's many times and can honestly say I've had decent service once or twice - that's it. If the service was better Skipper's would get 5 stars without hesitation!

My trip to Skippers Pier was a disapointing one. :( After reading reviews and friends of mine telling me how awesome this place was, i was exicted to go. We got there and went to the back bar and ordered some drinks and food. ( the back bar is outside of the restaurant )The food was really good! I mean REALLY GOOD!!!!But the service total killed everything that could be good about this place. 2 women bartenders that were way too stress out and not friendly. It easly took 20 mins to get one drink and you were lucky if you got what you ordered. The bathroom was the worst I've seen and after spending $80 total on the bill for two. I left wishing I would have just gone home instead. And 2 days later i noticed on my back account, they had ran my card for the total charge twice. If Skippers Pier wasn't under staffed and had happier bartenders and better service, I would give this place a try again. But it will be a long time before I brave it again.

We've been to Skippers before and probably would have better things to say about those trips.. But this latest visit has left us very disappointed in an otherwise nice outdoor location. Started first by calling ahead to see if they take reservations, they do not.. I was so rudely told by the young girl that answered as she about hung up on me .. Quickly asked about the wait time and again, brief curt answer - as if I was really bothering her .. Did arrive to find a packed restaurant - which could be expected on a beautiful holiday weekend. The wait, 35 min, was true to their word. We sat on the outside deck and waited a little longer than I'm accustomed to give our drink order to an obviously hot, unhappy overworked waitress.. I don't think she smiled once . In fact - no one else employed there seemed to smile (I get it, hot sunny day, crowded restaurant - but that's your job... I felt like we were bothering almost everyone there - not a welcoming feeling) .. The kid who bussed our table at the end was the highlight of our visit. We ate mostly appys which were good, not great . Although the nachos were tasty. Hubby got the crab cake which was overdone, not well seasoned, but palatable - contained jumbo lump & back fin. Not as good as others have reviewed in our opinion. Had a couple Orange Crushes and they were fresh and tasty. The whole time there - we noticed AT LEAST 2 empty tables on the outside deck .. (And noted people still waiting to be seated - I was tempted to call to see if there was a waiting list, because that would have made no sense from where we were sitting!). And to top it all off, at the end of our visit someone inquired about sitting at empty table 84, and came the reply from waitstaff "that table is RESERVED" ! They promptly placed a sign on the table to identify it as RESERVED.. Guess you've got to know someone at this place on a beautiful sunny holiday Sunday to reserve a spot; wish we would have stayed around to see if they got a smile too ! We will go back in the off season as we have done before- they seem to be able to handle the smaller crowds better !
(2)Hale K.
Went there for Mother's Day Brunch, it was our first visit. The food was delish and the atmosphere and staff made us feel like we were long lost family. We look forward to going again very soon.
(4)Jenn K.
LOVE $2 Crabs on Tuesday nights! What a great deal! Worth the wait! ;)
(4)Kevin G.
I can not believe how good it was. I have lived in the area for 5 years and I am just hearing about this gem. The service was excellent, the food was outstanding. They have this appetizer called BBQ Shrimp and Grits that is out of this world good. The price is reasonable. It is not fine dinning but great dinning, in a very relaxed atmosphere. On Fridays they have a Seafood Buffet that cost $23.00. In my humble opinion that can not be beat. If you want to have a great meal a good atmosphere on the WATER - go to Skippers!!!
(5)Wayne W.
I don't like making general statements about management, but it seems the new owners have made really poor decisions. After years of enjoying Skippers, I was shocked the first time I went back after the change in owners. Same structure, but a completely different feel. After being told that there was a wait of 90 minutes for a table for two people because the 8 empty tables did not have waitstaff to serve them, we left and decided to try again later. A week later, we went during lunch and the restaurant again had tons of empty tables and also a wait of 35 minutes. We decided to wait this time and were not impressed with the menu or the actual food. After vowing to find a new favorite place to eat on the water, luck put us back at Skippers on 8/31/12. Out of town relatives decided that they wanted to go back to Skippers since they enjoyed their previous visit. Against better judgement, I agreed. All four of us ordered the All you can eat crabs. While the crabs were small and light, it was ok because it was an all you can eat. Fresh trays were a little slow to come out, but again we were with family, so we passed the time with good talk. Sadly, our waitress ruined our good time by coming over to the table and cheerfully announcing "I'll go in and put in your last tray!" When we asked what she meant, she told us "Oh, there's a two hour time limit for all you can eat and your time is up." Perhaps that would have been good to know when we called Skippers in advance to ask how much the price would be for AYCE crabs before we drove to Deale.....or when we first placed our order. Had we known there was a time limit, we would have spent more time pickin' the crabs and less time socializing and would have been less ok with the delay in getting the trays. Most importantly, had we known about the 2 hour time limit, we would have chosen another place to eat at. It's not an enjoyable dining experience being rushed. Since tables are needed so badly here, it may be a part of their plan to limit your time to two hours to get you up and out. Too many places in South County to get a poor experience over and over again. I wont be back.
(2)Benjamin W.
Definitely a great place to go in the summer. There are many tables on the water and you can enjoy picking crabs, or trying one of the appetizers, sandwiches, or salads as well. Dock bar is also fun for those interested in night life. And availabe docks for boaters!
(4)Jonathan F.
Started out with fried green tomato w/shrimp salad corn salsa on top,EXCELLENT!! Main entree was salmon...TRUE PERFECTION!! never ever have I had salmon cooked so well! Dessert 10 layer chocolate cake!!,an area speciality..,WONDERFUL!! I am suremany many trips in the future!! Amber our server was extremly helpful and knowledgable as well as very friendly!

I would have rated this place 4 stars just a couple months ago, but it's gone downhill. They got a new cook and some of the new recipes aren't coming out as well as the old ones. The hush puppies are now boring and bland -- they used to be great. And now with their extended happy hour, you can't get near the place between 6-9 pm. Great for the drinkers, but not so good for those of us who'd like to get dinner. Still a great location, and the soft-shell crab sandwich was great the other day.

We arrived at 4:45 on a Sunday afternoon for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised by the nice decor and the location right on the water with a great view in this small sleepy town. We ordered crab cake that was perfectly flavored and broiled according to my husband who is a long-term Maryland crab cake eater. I had the oysters appetizer with 2 sides. The oysters which were hand-dipped in a wonderful breading but not too heavy (much more oyster then breading) and absolutely yummy for a reasonable price. Our side dishes were coleslaw (a nice hint of sweet), real redskin mashed potatoes that were delicious and beer batter onion rings that were honestly the best we've had ANYHERE! The owner, David who came out to welcome us was very warm, friendly, and professional. He said that he and his wife own the place. We gave him a couple of friendly suggestions and he enthusiastically listened, looking for ways to improve an already great business. The service was good and the food was great! Thank you for a lovely evening. We'll be back!

Have't been to this restaurant for couple of years, but the place we wanted to go was closed. The place was packed for Sunday brunch, but we ordered from the menu. The menu had been updated from a few years back and looked pretty good. Unfortunately the food was bland, under seasoned. Not even salt and pepper. Ordered the fried pickles app and the oil used tasted very old and food was super greasy. Also ordered a Specialty of the House, fried chicken. Was gross. Husband ordered Fish Tacos. He was disappointed as well. Can't complain about the service, but won't be back to Skippers for another several years.
(3)Sean W.
Decent food! Good service! Very good atmosphere(on the water/pier)! Price is decent! Casual attire!
(3)Robyn C.
I went here again with my husband on their crab night--- it was packed! We sat at an outside bar table. No one greeted us after we sat there for 5 mins, so I went to the bar and grabbed some menus. We noticed other tables were being waited on, so we sat there waiting for 'our' waitress...no one came over to us, so I went to the bar and ordered our dinners. The kitchen staff brought us our food. My husband went to the bar for our napkins and silverware. Was kinda annoying, prices weren't that impressive for what we got to eat and the self-service. We had the grilled shrimp salads- 5 shrimp and lettuce. We also got an order of clams, two didn't have anything in them. I like the location, and the food isn't bad, so we'll go back for a drink or when it is downtime...

What a find ..!!!! The food is over the top GREAT ! Chef John makes everything from scratch even the Salad dressings are homemade !!! Oh my you have to try the chocolate torte ... ! The Shrimp and Grits are over the top... and the Bourbon wings !!! WOW!

My family and I just returned from our 1st (and last) visit to Skipper's Pier, and are extremely disappointed. We came upon Skipper's Pier while searching YELP, and noticed all of the rave reviews. Craving some seafood by the sea, we were sold! The restaurant itself is very cute, and the views overlooking the water are beautiful, but that's where it ends. The food and the service were just terrible! After a long wait, (not many people were in the restaurant) we placed our order. My husband ordered the fried seafood platter, and enjoyed the crabcake and the fried oysters. The shrimp, however, were very pungent and rubbery! Those remained on the plate. My order on the other hand was COMPLETELY unedible.. I ordered the fried flounder basket, and I've never tasted anything like it. I took a bite of the pungent fish and it was just TERRIBLE. My fish was not flaky at all, and was instead wet and mushy. I still have the terrible taste in my mouth :/ Aside from the food, the service was also lacking. On the children's menu, it states that the child's meal comes with a drink. We ordered 1 milk and 2 rootbeers for our 3 kids.. Our server neglected to tell us that these specific drinks would be $3 extra (each). We only noticed after we saw the bill. After giving us a hard time, they said that they would take 2 of the drinks off of the bill. Gee.. thanks. False advertising perhaps, or a sneaky server? Who knows.. Overall, a very poor experience. I would not recommend this restaurant, nor will I ever venture back again.

Skippers Pier is a hidden gem. The specials are always terrific and should always be considered, but do try the shrimp and grits, a menu staple. This is the only place I know in MD that serves New England fried clams - if you know what they are, then you know what I'm talking about. It is a real treat. The prices do seem high at first, but you must consider the high quality of the food and the great preparations. They are definitely trying to do something more interesting than the usual crab-on-everything dreck that is all too common in Maryland.
(5)Maria K.
Everything was good but they were a bit frazzled by the unexpected crowds as a result of the nice Columbus day weather. The food arrived willy nilly theogony the evening but consistently enough that with sharing none of us was hungry.
(4)Cindi C.
God do I love this place, Its at the end of Drum Point Road at Rockhold Creek. Sitting inside or at the picnic tables outside facing with water you can't go wrong. And then going to the outdoor deck bar after dinner is a great way to wind down your evening. I love watching the boats come in and go out when I am just relaxing with their great food. The oysters on the half shell are always fresh and have that from the sea taste. I love the Low Country chicken eggrolls. And the crab fondue has a subtle hint of old bay. The Seared scallops are always good. My husband has enjoyed the Tuna with miso glaze on a number of occasions. But really, the shrimp and grits are my favorite. To top things off I enjoy the orange sunshine cake. And for a warm comforting dessert, I recommend the pecan banana bread pudding.

Fresh Seafood & good blue crab...not too far from D.C. And asking for "Sean" the best server @ Skipper Pier....
(4)Giancarlo B.
THis is one of the best places in the area. It is only 40 minf rom Old Town and worth the trip, anyone who has not been needs to have their head examined! There is no where in DC that you can get seafood this good adn this fresh! Rockfish that is right off the boats and fresh Md crab meat, stuffed Rockfish! Yummy! And the view is amazing, on the water with boats going by at the mouth of Deale Bay feeding into the Chesapeake Bay, BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! The sweetest waitresses in Southern Maryland and the best "Feast of the Sea" an AYCE seafood extravaganza with fried oysters and fresh fried shrimp, Crab bisque, Ciopino (seafood stew) with mussels, shrimp, fish and calimari, the giant alaskan crab legs that all the yankees love and scallops with grits and on their own. A la carte desserts are awesome homemade specials that will make you miss your momma! Don't be a fool, get down to skipper's Pier ASAP and stop complaining about all the crap they are serving in DC and Rockville and especially in Northern Virginia! Trust me on this one you will return agaion and again as so many of my friends and neighbors have who are from here in Old Town.
