Great local atmosphere, music, drinks, food. Open mike night is fun.

Met with some girlfriends here on Tuesday and it turns out if was karaoke night. It was good to meet Chris and she took great care of us. The food was really good and there was good variety on the menu. Had Seafood Bisque and Salad and it was delicious, they served the salad with a housemade blueberry vinaigrette. The rest of our party had other sandwiches, someone had the Sinatra and it was also good. I ordered the "Twinbrook Deli Twist" as a to go sandwich for my husband and it was very good and true to the original also. Anyone who used to get cold cut subs at the Twinbrook Deli and has a craving for the original, this is the place to go! The coleslaw is homemade and very good. It was nice to dine here and I enjoyed the karaoke, although it was very loud for such a small place, so we did have a hard time hearing each other talk, but we still all had a good time. I had a hot hibiscus tea and it was good. They offer a wide variety of milk shakes and other frozen drinks, smoothies, frappes, as well as hot coffee, lattes, assorted pastries, etc. They are also now serving beer and wine. They have some tables in the back on the patio for summer nights and we might try that next time we come. I would like to come back for Jazz night and make a date of it. If I do, I will post another review. All in all a winner and I am looking forward to a return visit.

This place is good. I looked at the menu, and almost left because prices were a bit steep for a sandwich (9.45). I'm glad I didn't leave. I ordered a smoothie. It was on the sweet side, and grainy(ice chips). I wouldn't recommend the smoothies! I also ordered a Stormy Monday sandwich. It was amazing. All meat was freshly cut, the flavor was perfect! The one downside is they didn't have any whole grain sub rolls (they do have whole grain bread, but not I. The firm of a baguette). I'd go here again. Decor leaves a lot to be desired, but sitting outside on a beautiful day would be ideal :-)

I would not recommend this restaurant at all. The place was empty and they served me my breakfast cold. The young kids working there did not seem to care.

This is my wife's and my favorite local breakfast spot. Simple fare - breakfast sandwiches, waffles - and for lunch soup, sandwiches, and salads. The coffee is great - I like the Mochas so much better than the ones I get in Starbucks. Come for the music on Friday and Saturday nights - they highlight a lot of local talent (they also have open mic nights on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and some more well known bands, like the Nighthawks. Randy and Chris are great hosts (they own the place) and the atmosphere is friendly and laid back. If you get to Damascus, MD, you need to come here.

Great food! The coffee is really good and my boyfriend is in LOVE with the desserts!

This place is a great surprise. I was simply looking for a good cup of joe and I got that and much more. The breakfast was simple but excellent. I get wait to get back here for a night of great music and really see this place in full swing. If you are in Damascus (or close) you need to check this place out. ml

Truly a great place to be, eat, hang, etc... The owner (Randy) has to be one of the most down to earth, kind hearted, easy going, happy upbeat phenomenal kind of guy !!! I lived in Damascus for about 2 years and still frequent the area often. I stumbled upon the place by accident and me being a music lover "music cafe" just clicked in my mind and it was just great, start to finish. Everything about the place is great ! It's the kind of place that caters to their guests. I'm a big fan of the "Belgian waffle" and normally they usually stop making them at 12 noon but no matter the time of day, they'll always fire up the waffle iron as long as you're ok with the 15-20 wait time for it to heat up ! I just can't recommend them enough ! Great place for breakfast/lunch sandwiches and not to mention the frequent live music ! During the nicer months they'll usually set up in the parking lot and have a BBQ while live music is FREE on stage for all to hear and enjoy ! I guess I'll close with this, in my opinion, there aren't too many places anymore that'll level with you and actually treat you with the respect that "you" believe you deserve... It terms of speaking to you like an equal rather than subordinate, but Music Cafe is sure to deliver that down home "treat others like you'd want to be treated" kind of courtesy. Stand up establishment !

This doesn't top my list. I've come here a few times. Service is all right, but the food seems way too expensive for the amount, quality, and the location. There is free wi-fi and concerts here. It seems like a pretty popular music venue for the area around Damascus.

Vanilla Lattes are delicious way better than Starbucks! Awesome breakfast for cheap!!!! Including specialties like a Belgian waffle with strawberries! For only $5.50... and the "Can't Touch This" breakfast sandwich is really really good... I will definitely be getting that on the go next time I am in town. I have to say the name of their oatmeal dish, "Oatmeal in the Sky with Diamonds", made me laugh the most when I read it on the menu... I love the play on words for their sandwiches! I grew up in Damascus, and I wish this place was around when I was in High School, it is nice to have a fresh and delicious mom and pop shop in town. Our other options are McDonalds or Burger King and Tom and Ray's... but this place definitely takes the cake. Oh and they have outdoor seating now too! And beer and wine too! OMG Damascus is changing so much! We have alcohol now?! This is probably the town "bar" at night hahahaha. Lastly, I want to shout out to my friend Kyle Sefcik, MMA fighter, DJ and promoter around town, he has a K-Sef smoothie on the menu that I noticed last time I was there, looked super healthy for all you health nuts and body builders!

Liked this place until I forgot my wallet and they wouldn't serve me a beer. Oh, by the way, I'm 40. Really?

The Music Cafe is my favorite restaurant for good food, reasonable prices, quiet, cozy atmosphere for breakfast, lunch or dinner and rocking fun atmosphere when there's music! The sandwiches have clever names and the chefs are always wiling to customize as needed. My favorites - the Sweet Emotion and the Summer Lovin' Salad.. Highly recommend this restaurant as a nice place for friends to meet for breakfast/lunch or dinner!
(5)Rob L.
Great place for Damascus that doesn't have much of anything but the prices I think are a little high for an egg sandwich that is very plain. Coffee is good. Haven't been here for the late night music yet but plan to in the near future.

We ate here this last Sunday about noon and were not impressed with most of our meal. My sandwich was the Reuben and was good - based on their menu their strong suit seem to be the sandwiches. The sides were just OK. My Mom had a waffle and was not impressed. It was a dry waffle served on a paper plate with a prepackaged thing of syrup and butter - period. It felt as if we were across the street at McD's. When you take a 91 Yo old out for lunch you hope for a more memorable comment that "This is not as good as the places we usually go". My wife had a salad and it was the saddest looking lettuce that I have ever seen. Part of a head of lettuce that most of us would not use were prominent. I asked her about it later and she said that it was her fault - that the last time she had ordered a salad she had also been let down. Like many others we love the fact that they can now sell beer etc. And my wife will continue to use the place as a meeting point for coffee but for anything other than a sandwich I would not return

Tuesday Nights Karaoke. Enough said. Good for people of all ages and family friendly. Staff are very friendly and awesome. I don't sing but It is a fun atmosphere. Must go!

This review is solely for the food. I have not yet been to this establishment, so I can't give an in-depth review. The reason I couldn't wait to review The Music Cafe until then is because when you find the very best of a certain dish, it must be shared with the world. My husband went and picked up dinner here last Saturday and brought it home. Their cream of crab soup is the best--the BEST--I have ever had. I regularly peruse the shores of eastern Maryland and I've had this dish in Vegas and at Ruth's Chris. While there are delectable versions of it all over the nation, The Music Cafe has the golden recipe, in my opinion. As soon as I took the container out of the bag, I dipped my spoon into it and took my very first bite. It was Heaven. My husband quickly followed suit and our eyes were basically rolling into the back of our heads. We kind of forgot about our sandwiches at this point! I wouldn't normally review a club sandwich, because we've all been there; we all know what it is and how it tastes and it should really only be reviewed if somebody screwed it up. But one thing that stood out about their club sandwich was a soft, marbled rye bread instead of your typical wheat or white. It paired so well with the evenly distributed layers of meat, LTB, cheese, and mayo that I'm waving its flag as well on this review. My husband said the Reuben was also outstanding. Next time, we'll show up and grab a table outside and get the full experience. This little place in the middle of nowhere in Montgomery County has the cream of crab soup, though, guys. You've got to get it here. I've been craving it every day since Saturday.

Good food, great place to come for local live music. A little pricy for what you get though. I like the FreeBird (turkey sandwich with a honey glaze). Their hot chai teas and smoothies are good too! Service is fast, it's an order-at-the-counter style place.

I have always passed by this place driving through Damascus and never thought to try it. So glad I did! I went during an open mic night which was very fun. The cafe itself seems cozy and the decor goes along with the music theme. It was nice listening to different people jam out while I enjoyed my food and a beer. I had the Tennessee Waltz sandwich. Very tasty and well made. My only problem with it was the glaze they put on the pretzel bun. It made the sandwich very sticky and hard to handle, but otherwise the flavors and everything went together well. I am anxious to come back and try more of their delicious menu items!

My Husband Ali and I love this place! We have lived in Germantown basically our whole lives and recently moved to Damascus about 1 1/2 years ago.. We happened to stumble upon this place and have loved it ever since! I was a bit skeptical about it at first, but absolutely love it. The staff are so warm and welcoming. The Belgian waffles are amazing and the coffee!?.... way better than Starbucks! Definitely check it out if you're in the area. :) Can't find small places that are family owned like this around much anymore.

The place is cute. Not as cute or vintage looking as I expected but it is cute. There's a stage so maybe they have some kind of music/performance day/night? Located right next to an animal hospital. i went on a Saturday morning around 9am. There were plenty of parking spots. There was only a group of 4 inside the store when I arrived there with a group of about 10. When I walked in, I smelt this funky woody smell. The smell really bothered me and my sister but nobody seemed to mind or notice it Seems like their specialty is sandwiches. My friends ordered different sandwiches and all enjoyed it. I ordered a breakfast flatbread (bacon, egg and cheese.. but it seemed like there was sausage inside.. SO WEIRD!) I think it is overpriced for the food they serve.

Can't say enough positive about The Music Cafe! Delicious food, yummy drinks, attentive staff, cool vibe, and incredible musical talent.... Even if I didn't live fairly close, I'd drive here regularly to soak up the refreshing vibe :-)

We ate on the patio, very pretty with water fall next to our table. Very good cream of crab soup and my date really enjoyed his chilli. The blueberry vingarette dressing on the house salad was yummy. I had a veggy burger that would definitely get again.

This place is worth the stop if your in town and a detour is definately warranted if your not. I was in town July 4th weekend and need a place I could hang all day with good food, wifi and dog friendly. The owners were great, their staff was amazing. I will be back next time I'm around for sure. I found the prices were perfect and the food delicious. The beer on draft simply stellar. This place should be in New Orleans!
(5)Rick E.
Great family owned place! Surprisingly high quality musicians. We have to support these wonderful businesses.
(5)Phillip R.
The best Cream of Crab I've had in a long time. Sandwiches are good(a little pricey) and they have some good beers on tap. Have a happy hour. Cool little place to come in and relax. Looks to make homemade desserts. Bands on the weekend I believe. If you haven't been give it a shot. Really the only cool/hip place in Damascus.
(4)Joe F.
Don't know about the music scene but I had the Zydeco sandwich and it was pretty great.
(3)Joe L.
Nice sitdown place for any time of the day. Great breakfast. Long wait for food though.
(4)Eric C.
I have been to this place several times and I have never left unhappy. Very good coffee and good sandwiches, hi have taken a few people there and they have left also enjoying their experience. They have a very awesome evening menu set up of karaoke open mic night and sponsor local bands. If you're in the area and hungry and don't try this place you're missing out on a wonderful opportunity

I go to this restaurant all the time. It's my favourite local place! The food is so good and is always made fresh. Amazing gourmet sandwiches, salads, soups, and desserts! The cakes and cupcakes are to die for. The employees are always so nice and polite, and I never have to wait longer than ten minutes for my food to be delivered to my table by one of the lovely employees. I'm always greeted with a smile. They also have live music almost every night. The bands on Fridays and Saturdays are so talented and high quality musicians who know what they are doing. Most bands there even have their own merchandise and clothing! Open mics on Thursdays are also so much fun! Everyone goes there just to have a good time. It really is an amazing place to be. I strongly recommend trying it out if you haven't already. If you need suggestions for food, I love the Sinatra or the Sgt. Pepper sandwiches, although all their food is awesome. Their coffee is also amazing. The espresso is never bitter, and everything just tastes and looks so professional. I wish I could give 6 stars instead of 5! I've NEVER had a bad experience there, and I've been going multiple times a week for almost three years.
(5)Janet C.
Stopped today for a yummy mango smoothie and chai latte. Found out they are now offering, drum roll please... BEER and WINE!!! Can't wait to hang out for some live music in the near future.

My daughter has been here when friends are playing and it can get pretty packed. We went up this morning for breakfast (Sunday) and it was really good. We had: Ham, Egg, and Cheese on Flatbread (very good) Ham, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich on French Toast (good) Kids had Belgian Waffles. Throw in two large coffees and overall the experience was great, music wasn't too loud, just playing good stuff, records all over the walls. It's small, think a typical starbucks size, just add a love for music and good food. Definitely recommend.

Could be worse, could be better. Pros: The only place in Damascus with free Wifi. It's local. Support your local business owners! The food is ok. Takes too long for what it is though. And if you want it "to-go," call ahead or you'll be waiting around a bit too long. Cons: Hope a Panera doesn't come to town or The Music Cafe will be a goner. Not only because it's a well-known brand, but because Panera's service, food, and drinks are better. For a placed named "The Music Cafe," I really wish they would invest in satelite radio. Or at least an iPod. They play the area radio stations, complete with commercials, at top volume during the day. No thanks.

This evening was spent listening to bawdy renaissance faire songs - as The Interpreters were holding an album recording session at The Music Cafe for their first CD release. Attendance was by invitation only. I've only been to Damascus once before, so I had no idea what I was in for. It took me about 1.5 hours to drive up there from Haymarket, VA, we were supposed to be there by 6:00 pm, I left the house at 3:30 pm and got there early! The Music Cafe is a cool, quaint, hip little venue - not only do they serve coffee and espresso drinks, but also an assortment of cold, icey fruity drinks, soup, salads, sandwiches, and pizza. I ordered a triple shot soy latte, the "Stairway to Freebird" sandwich, which contained: Smoked turkey, crisp bacon, and havarti cheese, crisp romaine lettuce, plum tomatoes and sharp honey mustard, served on Ciabatta bread. I also had a bowl of the creamy seafood bisque and a bottle of water. The soup was good, although I would have preferred that it had been served a bit hotter temperature-wise. A friend of mine also gave me a taste of her French bread pizza topped with crab and who knows what cheese - it was absolutely heavenly - never had a pizza like that before! Far out! The Music Cafe hosts a variety of musical acts and other performers, they also offer free Wifi. Check it out next time you are in Damascus!

Went up 2 weeks ago for Jazz night and had a real good time. Enjoyed the band very much. There was a $10 cover charge, which they said went to the band, which is fine with me. They deserved more than that. Yes it is a cozy place but the crowd was very friendly, probably 40 people or so and all the tables were full. All I had was a glass of wine so I can't comment on the food. I will be returning for Jazz night again and would recommend it to all. I'll try the food next time everyone there said it was very good.
(3)Misty B.
Wonderful welcoming staff, yummy sandwiches and great entertainment. I have never been let down. A nice local casual spot to sit and relax or take it to go...I'm a huge fan.
(5)Harris H.
We ate there some time ago and I am just catching up. The food was very good, but not enough to warrant a 5 star. It is a nice place with friendly staff. There was a young guy playing some music that evening so we hung out and relaxed. Definitely meant to go back but kept forgetting about this place as there are so many other choices.

Countless patrons were whisking in the Music Café to enjoy a nice warm bagel with cream cheese or a chocolate croissant with an energizing espresso or creamy latte. Perusing their expansive menu of good eats is much more than coffee treats. There aren't many places in Damascus that arouse the olfactory senses with the sweet aroma of freshly cooked waffles or where you can order a tall cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade. Plus, they have a great selection of gourmet sandwiches, salads, soups, AND the most succulent, cheesy East-Coast pizza. You'll definitely get your money's worth with the generous portions of pizza slices. What amazes me is how the Music Café culinary experience is heightened by the exciting variety of live music entertainment - open mic nights, Karaoke competitions, and an over the top music venue. To give you a perspective of the quality musicians at the Music Café, this coming Friday, December 12, they will have a Special Show with the Latin Queen of Soul ( latinqueenofsoul.com ) Meritxell Negre. Wow! A quaint little music venue in Damascus is entertaining their patrons with the sensational international alto-soprano singer, who just toured as "Peaches" with the R&B/Pop legend, Peaches & Herb. Call it a quaint little music spot, soon Music Café patrons will sip their favorite cup of coffee listening to a World-Class show by the Latin Queen of Soul with Acoustic Alchemy band members, the famous brothers, Gary Grainger (Bassist) and Greg Grainger (Drummer). Check out YOUTUBE VIDEO: "LATIN QUEEN OF SOUL" MERITXELL NEGRE SINGS ORIGINAL MATERIAL" youtube.com/watch?v=Js8M… By the way, if you're not into Pop, Jazz, R&B, or Latin music, in any given night, you never know what surprise may be in store. You might also encounter a Rock, Blues, or funk band. And you can always ensure to top your Music Cafe nocturnal outings with a sweet scoop of hand-dipped ice cream, or a second heart-warming latte for the road.
