So tasty! Always stop here when in that area.

Jimmie cone is a damascus tradition! I have to go a couple times a summer
(5)Diana P.
Drove from Olney to go here. Parking is minimal and kind of tight. There's plenty of places to sit and eat. It is cash only. Service was average. After all this, I still don't see what the big deal is. I got a small twist with rainbow jimmies...the ice cream was OK, nothing amazing. The only amazing thing is we got 2 small cones for 5 dollars and some change. Pricing was very fair, quality of food was average.

Simply stated, I'm not certain how someone couldn't love Jimmie Cone. Some places when you visit as an adult after a childhood of going there, don't live up. Jimmie Cone on the other hand, ALWAYS lives up to my inner child's expectations. They specialize in solid, basic soft serve ice cream and coating your cone in jimmies. While I typically don't care for strawberry, my favorite there is probably a small waffle cone with strawberry/vanilla swirl and chocolate jimmies. YUM! Every time I go, it invokes memories from my childhood of that one time each summer my parents would say "Ice Cream for dinner! We are going to Jimmie Cone!!" Every. Child's. Dream! As an adult, I like to pop in for "dinner" after an afternoon at the Mount Airy wineries. Some things change but great ice cream at Jimmie Cone definitely doesn't.
(5)Racha H.
Honestly, other than the inexpensive price, I don't see what the attraction is. It's run of the mill softserve with sprinkles. Vanilla, chocolate, v/c twist, and berry flavors. That's it. I'd rather reserve my fat calories intake for something more special. Sorry.
(1)Alaina P.
If you can find parking in the cramped parking lot, then CASH ONLY Jimmy Cone is DEFINITELY worth the long line. The soft serve vanilla with rainbow jimmies is to die for. Just look at the pictures on this page- they do not skimp on the jimmies. The vanilla ice cream is so creamy/smooth but don't forget to look at their board to check what flavors they are offering that day. I'm not sure what time they are open but if you want to skip the crowds, it's best to go during the early afternoon. Closing is at 11pm.

Great place for soft serve ice cream. Always a wait and parking sucks, but worth it. Cash only.

Jimmie Cone is an institution, a landmark, a retreat compared to all those chain ice cream parlors. A family run business that is open from April thru October. When my kids were little we used to have pajama and ice cream dinners at Jimmie Cone, it was one of their favorite things to do, little did they know it was one of mine, too! They make their ice cream with whole milk, so if you're on a diet, get the kid size cone. However, if you want a treat just get a sundae or a jumbo cone and forgo eating for the rest of the day!
(5)Elisa P.
So the kids went to their first ice cream outing of the year and were so excited to go to Jimmy Cone's. Distracted and talking we missed our call to pick up our order and after about 10 minutes or so we went up to ask where it was. The staff said they threw our ice creams away because they were melting!!! OMG!! And they refused to give us new ones or reimburse us!!! OMG!!! Of course our evening was ruined. So don't go to have a nice time, don't chat with friends but watch for your order like a halk!
(1)Jason C.
Jimmie Cone had some great tasting ice cream...but I got a Freeze...which is just like a blizzard at dairy queen. All the toppings were sitting at the bottom of my cup....I basically had to mix most of it myself. But it was pretty good overall. Had a good time and this place has a great old school ice cream atmosphere. I would go back for sure.

This is what an American ice cream place is about! I feel like I am on Happy Days when I go to Jimmie Cone! HUGE portions, inexpensive, and yummy. Don't go for the low fat...not as good as the regular. Place is crowded, but lines move quickly, and parking is tight. I try to park someplace else a short walk from Jimmie Cone to avoid the parking lot.
(5)ken p.
I was SOOO happy to call & find out they were open last Saturday (03/20/2010). Best ice cream around & they alway give you a lot of bang for your buck. Something changed for this year-or was it just for that day. Maybe the economy caused a cut back. I always got the large cake cone. They would give almost TOO much. Last Saturday they said they didn't have large cake cones-just large waffle cones. I got that, but it wasn't as large as the cake cones were last year. No strawberry either, like last year. Great ice cream of course, but I always considered the amount as part of the draw to Jimmie Cone.
(4)Michael S.
Soft serve style ice cream. Melts way to fast. Ok taste, not as good as it was when I was 10 years old. I think my taste has evolved since then.
(2)Danilo A.
Jimmie Cone is an establishment that has been around since 1952, serving one of a kind ice cream. Although the lines may be long at times, it is well worth the wait, especially on a hot summer's day! My only complaint was that they only accept cash.
(4)Stuart W.
A Damascus institution, this place has crazy lines most nights but especially at weekends. Also there is very limited parking which is crazy considering how many people go there. Personally, although it is very good, I don't think the ice cream is worth a 30 minute wait! We especially enjoy the flurries, you do get a lot for your money though and often the small size is more than enough! Well recommended, just avoid at peak times!

What in the world???!! My head spun like a carousel on steroids as it came my turn to give my order. What should I try from this deliciously best-of classic soft-serve menu?! I went with a MINI sundae which was about 3" high with the whipped creme. Topped with chocolate jimmies it was a perfectly delicious choice.
(5)Mel A.
I scream! You scream! We all scream for ... Jimmie Cone?! Jimmie Cone is a Damascus establishment since 1962. Classic, old school, straight up soft serve ice cream. What are your choices? Choose from a number of flavors, cup/cone, sm-med-large, rainbow/chocolate jimmies (Damascus speak for 'sprinkles' ... and don't call them sprinkles, they're jimmies!). I'm pretty vanilla -- haha -- when it comes to my choice at Jimmie Cone. My go-to treat is a small cup, chocolate-vanilla twist with chocolate jimmies (not pictured!). Why mess with a good thing? Or you can branch out and try their latest creations, like fat-free black raspberry or sugar free coconut. Now there's a sweet flavor combination. Bring cash and a dollop of patience - on warm, summer evenings, lines can be quite long. But once you have cone in hand, you'll be just like a kid again.

Until Jimmie Cone came along, I had no business or reason to ever be in Damascus. Let's be real now, until 2013 the town had not sold alcohol for 132 years due to their strong Methodist roots. What the heck would I do there? I'd be like Kevin Bacon in Footloose just struggling to fit in. Then,I had my first cone at Jimmie Cone, then my second, and then, well I lost count. I would look to any excuse to come here, and my heart starts beating faster at the sight of their green canopy. First of all, let me explain the Jimmie thing. Apparently, our Northeastern population calls what we know and love as "sprinkles", "jimmies". They cover your ice cream in jimmies, if requested, and for me it was a bit too much. I like a simple cone. Also I'm a messy eater, and I really just end up with a thousand sprinkles down my shirt. I am a soft serve fanatic/devotee (I have chased a Mr. Softee truck through the streets of Philadelphia with Lia M.), and I can attest to the fact that the soft serve here is one of the best I've had. They have just two flavors, Chocolate and Vanilla, although some reviews mention strawberry as well. It's actually the one place where I just really like the vanilla ice cream,so creamy and so smooth, but usually I mix the flavors. I believe they call this the "swirl".They offer a few flavors of frozen yogurt too, when I was there they had mango. To summarize here's the best and worst points about this place Best -Affordable oversized cones -Creamy Ice Cream (one cone of ice cream is only 185 calories!!) -Every type of sundae is available -Assorted picnic benches to sit outside and eat at Worst -Cash only -Always a line -Parking is scarce, most people park by the 7-11 and walk over -Closed in winter (October-March) -Something is really off with the sugar cones (stale?).
(5)Ari S.
Such. Good. Custard. I grew up coming here after baseball games as a kid. It was a treat then and still is today, especially since I don't live in the area anymore. The line is always long and the custard is always cold. You can't go wrong with this place as they have options for everyone (fat free, sugar free, full fat and full sugar). If you were to nitpick, it would be that they only have a limited number of flavors, but maybe that's why it's so good?? They do what they do very well.
(5)c t.
Free snow balls on Fridays? Wow. Also love the hot fudge milkshake. Lovely soft serve with local kids behind the counter. Family establishment. Damascus icon. Must go there at least a few times each summer if not weekly. Don't miss this place if your passing through Damascus.
(5)Vicki C.
HUGE fan of Jimmie Cone!! Parking can be scarce and the lines can be long but it's TOTALLY WORTH THE WAIT!!! Lots of seating outdoors on the mulched areas. Love the soft serve ice cream (not too sweet) on a waffle cone with of course sprinkles/jimmies! DROOL!! I bring all my friends, family, and of course our pooch, Stitch, on summer days. Don't forget cash only!! Will always return to Jimmie for my ice cream crave!!

How have I not written a review about Jimmie Cone before??! This is one of my favorite places in the DMV area and is one of my fondest memories from my early childhood spent in Gaithersburg. The shop still looks very similar to how it did 15 years ago with the large awning, picnic table seating in mulched areas, and the crazy parking lot. The ice cream here is truly some of the best I've ever had. Ever. Nostalgia aside, it's just damn good. The classic offerings are vanilla, chocolate, and twist. Creamy, smooth, and exactly what soft serve should be. The sizes run large, so a medium will net you a sizable amount of delicious dairy. My standard order is the twist with rainbow jimmies. And the jimmies, the jimmies! I love jimmies/sprinkles, so they get their own mini-paragraph. They coat the ice cream completely with the jimmies, so you won't be gypped like some other places. Seriously though, why do some places have them gently sprinkle on the jimmies? It doesn't work. You need to take that cone like you're its boss and roll it in the bin to coat it. That's how they do it here, and it works magnificently. Potentially racist connotations associated with the origin of the word 'jimmies' aside (there are multiple stories), this is an important place to me. It marks some of my favorite memories of going out to Sugarloaf and stopping by Jimmie Cone on the way home, and I still refer to sprinkles as jimmies to this day. And yes, beware the bees and yellow jackets during the summer. They can get intrusive and nasty.
(5)Kiana Z.
Omg I never write review but when I do it's because it is either really bad or good. JIMMIE CONE IS THE WORST. I understand that Jimmie Cone is a Damascus prideful thing to go to but worst soft serve ever. The staff are extremely incompetent, rude and disrespectful. They literally hired all high school student with the most sophomoric attitude. I promise you this is the worst place you can go to get soft serve. GO TO BASKIN ROBINS down the street. So much worth your money
(1)Jon C.
In spite of the long history of family mythology surrounding Jimmie Cone, what they serve is soft-serve ice cream with chocolate sprinkles. Sure, they can do other things, but this is the basic Jimmie Cone. I think that they attraction of driving out to Damascus for soft-serve in the parking lot, opposite a McDonalds, is more to do with the other people you've done this with throughout your life. Jimmie Cone is long in its history, which in this day and age is a marvel. On the grounds of what Jimmie Cone serves, they are remarkably unremarkable, but if you grew up in the woods and rolling hills surrounding Damascus, then Jimmie Cone is a little slice of your childhood heaven.
(3)Harith D.
Delicious, inexpensive, large portions of top notch soft serve. The parking lot is always full. And this place is cash only. But the soft serve is divine, not too sweet and always smooth. My recommendation? A Medium(think Mt Sugarloaf) or Large(Mt Everest) vanilla cone with rainbow jimmies.
(5)Rich W.
After having been deterred by the lack of empty parking spaces every time I drove by, I finally spotted an open spot this afternoon and swung into the lot. Jimmie Cone is everything I remembered from my childhood - and the prices have remained pretty much the same as well! Small cones are still under $2, with rainbow or chocolate jimmies pushing the price just over $2. And there's an even smaller mini-cone for small kiddies (but what kid has ever said, "That's too much ice cream!!!"?). The basic soft-serve flavors are still the same - chocolate or vanilla (or half-half for the indecisive). They've expanded their menu to include fat-free and sugar-free options, but if you're craving a Jimmie Cone, I suspect it's not the fat-free or sugar-free serving you're craving. For the indecisive, they also offer a half-chocolate and half-rainbow topping, but unless you liked Blake Edwards' "Victor/Victoria," I'd recommend against it. Outdoor tables offer a lot more seating spots than the parking lot offers parking spaces, but I heard that you can park at the Jerry's sub shop next door without a problem (which is also where Jimmie Cone sends their customers who need to use a restroom). They don't take credit cards, but there are a couple of banks nearby and a 7/11 with a Citibank ATM across the way. Thank you, Jimmie Cone, for allowing me to relive the days of my misspent youth!
(5)Pierre D.
Ah! The elusive five-star review! Jimmie Cone is more than a simple ice cream shop, it is a MoCo institution. Anyone who has been in the are for long will base directions in the Damascus area in relation to Jimmie Cone. The ice cream is thick and creamy in all the right ways. While many other menu options are available (e.g., classic shakes, yogurt, and the always tempting banana split) I have never ventured off the illuminated path of the swirl. As mentioned by other reviewers the strawberry flavor is worth its weight in gold. The jimmies are not conserved, and if requested will be liberally applied. Ahhhh, yeah. Worthy notes: -this business is CASH ONLY -the parking lot is a bit of a game of bumper car -as this place is no secret you should come prepared to wait in line
(5)Jessie M.
Why do people love this place?? Is there something wrong with my tastebuds? I dragged 2 other people here because I had been hearing rave reviews from people of all walks of life for a few years about this place and had been dreaming of finally getting to try Jimmy Cone myself...with 2 other people. 0 out of 3 of us enjoyed our ice cream. Actually the 2 others were so unhappy with their sundae that I freaked out and thought "OH no!! We probably should have just tried plain ice cream on a cone or something. Maybe that's whats good here." After the pretty bad sundae, I ordered a cone of their vanilla ice cream with sprinkles, but nope...it wasn't any better. Ah :( Disappointed and it was NOT worth the drive to Damascus for us.

YOU HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED LIFE. YOU FAIL IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN HERE!!!! This is my spot since high school. I wish there was a Gaithersburg location but oh the drive to D-mass is worth it!!! It's your ma and pa soft serve ice cream place. Completely outdoors with seating like picnic tables. Summer nights the lines are long but they go through people pretty fast. The best part its perfect for all ages its right by D-mass high school. You'll usually see all the locals there and people from all over Montgomery County/ Frederick County / Howard. This place is famous. Creature of habit plus the best in my opinion is STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM WITH CHOCOLATE JIMMIES (jimmies= sprinkles ) I always order one to eat there and then a quart or pint to go. You will not regret it. :D
(5)Meredith S.
Best Ice Cream in Maryland. I just wish they had a close shop near Bethesda.
(5)Erika M.
The ice cream here can't be beat in the area. The strawberry/vanilla swirl is my personal fave. The parking is a bit tight but we have never had a problem. You can also park across the street at the CVS if you can't find anything. There are tables over by the parking that are perfect if you want to bring your dog along for the ride.
(4)Steven W.
If you're cruising down rt 27 through Damascus, you'd be foolish not to stop in and get some ice cream at Jimmie Cone! First, the soft serve ice cream is just plain good...but I'm shocked no one in all of these reviews has mentioned the ice cream boats...actually that's not the name, but they are sundaes built on top of "Golden Cream Filled Cakes!" That's how the menu describes them...That is a Twinkie to you and me, with a sundae built on top of it! Again...a Twinkie with a Sundae built on top of it! -1 star for the cash only policy and the horrible parking.
(4)TJ B.
This place is an original. There are overpriced chain ice cream shops and yogurt bars opening up all over the place, but fewer and fewer mom and pop original soft ice cream stands. Take your family here and enjoy a cone just like they made them when you were a kid. Watch out for the bees. There is a bee problem...
(5)Orlangela A.
She said..." So I am not a huge fan of soft serve ice cream, but this place always hits the spot. Really yummy ice cream. My hubby is the one that really loves this place,so I'll let him take over on this review..." He said..."Love the soft serve ice cream, if you like SSIC go here! Beats DQ any day of the week. This place keeps it simple, 3 flavors and cash only. For $20 bucks your family and the extra people that tag along with you can all get ice cream. The drive sucks but it is worth it. Don't expect to loose weight eating this stuff, you can tell they put extra cream because the ice cream is thick and doesn't melt that fast."
(5)Lauren H.
The most amazing hidden gem in the entire DC metro region. I'm lucky enough to only live a few minutes away, but I have friends who drive from the district just for Jimmie Cone. The parking lot is absolute insanity, full of yahoo's who don't understand how to park in between the white lines. It's worth braving the horrific parking to visit here. Crowded on the evenings and weekends, but the lines move pretty quickly. Cash only.
(5)Lunatuna F.
This place is my childhood. I love the ice cream, it's not too sweet and very creamy. The small is big and the large is ginormous. Don't forget the jimmies!
(4)Margaret I.
YUMMY! We visit Jimmie Cone whenever we (my husband and I) visit his family in MD. Soft serve ice cream with sprinkles! Lots of outdoor seating, and great on a hot humid summer day.
(5)Pete J.
Its Jimmie Cone. Its timeless. Its wonderful. Everything rocks. Soft serve and sundays are out of bounds(thanks for the dumb compliment Guy Fieri). Down to earth hometown atmosphere. I love this place. I hope it never changes.
(5)Kevin J.
Among the best ice cream you will ever have. One of the long standing food establishments Damascus is known for.
(5)Jeff B.
Jimmie Cone is the ideal place to fall in love with a summer fling. It's the ideal place to take someone on a date and spoon feed each other vanilla custard or a banana split sundae. I grew up in a nearby town, and we'd always hop in the car for the quick trip down 124 to Jimmie Cone. Speeding along 124 at 60 mph, winding around curves, we were anxious to get our ice cream on plus sprinkles. Jimmie Cone represents what America is all about: ice cream. This family establishment evokes so many nostalgic memories of my peak years in high school.
(5)Jenny A.
5 stars for the win! Great place, friendly people. It's nice to see a place teenagers work and chat with you. 1 star for my waistline
(5)Melanie K.
I love this place. I've been coming here since I was a little kid, when we used to climb on the awning (against the rules!!). The soft-serve is as good as soft-serve can be. There is always a line, but it moves quickly. Parking is a bit of a pain. On really crowded nights, we used to park across the street at the bank. It's really inexpensive and the atmosphere is fantastic. The location is great for watching old muscle cars speed past, too.
(5)kathy c.
My family loves this place, even the dogs who get their very own extra small vanilla cup. Anyone we bring here loves it too and cant wait to come back. Great stop after an afternoon motorcycle ride! They only accept cash though and the parking is tight.
(5)Tighe R.
I recently moved to Damascus, and when others ask me about how I like it, I'm always sure to bring up the incredible Ice Cream at Jimmie Cone. First time I went I ordered the large waffle cone, and WOW this was a huge portion of soft serve. No complaints, it was incredible, and I knew better to order smaller in future visits. Another item that earns the 5 stars is the banana boat. This thing is gigantic, and includes all the fixin's. Can't go wrong with this. Just be sure to have another person or two to help you out. The price is right, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is great.
(5)Katie M.
Amazing Damascus staple. The Oreo milkshake is the bomb.
(5)Scott S.
We moved to Damascus only 3 weeks ago, and we have been to Jimmie Cone 4 times. I think that says pretty much all you need to know. It is soft serve, and they typically only have three flavors (I've seen Chocolate, Vanilla, and rotating Strawberry or Orange). However, it is a fairly thick, very smooth, ice cream; two steps above McDonald's and one step above Dairy Queen. They offer a selection of sundaes, splits, and other such novelties, but we haven't tried any of them yet. It's a great place to go and observe small-town life. It is full of families and high school students. Also, it is open late during the summer, even on a Sunday, which is another plus. If you are in Damascus and you only have time to check out one thing, Jimmie Cone is the top of the list.
(4)Lindsey G.
I've been going here since I was a kid, and around 400 flurries later am still raving about it. If you want scrumptious soft serve, decent prices, and a small-town feel, check it out. It's usually only open late March to early November though, so don't bother making the trek during the winter months.
(5)Sandy B.
The place to go. Nuff said.
(4)Maz W.
Excellent ice cream. Generous portions. I usually get vanilla with strawberry sauce. The sauce comes with chunks of strawberries, so it's not the kind of syrup they serve you in those fancy and bland fro yo places. If you want real soft serve ice cream, with real ingredients, this is the place.
(5)Brett D.
A local institution! They generally only have a few flavors of ice cream, but its all great quality and served in a laid back open walk-up. Dogs are welcome.
(5)JB D.
Going to Jimmie Cone during the summer months (they are not open year round) is a MUST for me and my family. It's been there for a very long time and hasn't changed much at all. Good soft serve ice cream out served outdoors walk up window style, among local folks who come to sit, eat, and be merry! Prices can't be beat either.
(5)Cheryl H.
I used to go here all the time when I was growing up. Too bad I don't live in Maryland anymore, but this was definitely a great place to get ice cream - sundaes, soft serve, splits - you name it! I'm not usually a big "sprinkle lover," but I always put "Jimmies" on my cone - and the chocolate ones at Jimmie Cone are awesome!
(4)Heather B.
WHAT?!?! Nobody has written a review? This place is my go to place for ice cream! YUMMY! The only problem is that the parking lot is always PACKED and the place is so out of the way from Gaithersburg and the Rockville area. But the seriously have some of the best soft serve around. Make sure you have cash only they do not take credit cards.
(4)
