Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Stopped in hungry, hot, dirty and tired yesterday 7/17/11 on our way home to Philly from the All Good music Festival on Marvin's Mountain in WV. I was a little worried about the way I was dressed (coming from a 3 day camp out hippie music festival) and this place looked kind of nice. But we really needed some good food. So we took a chance. WE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN TREATED NICER!!!. The wood oven pizza was just yum!!! I had the Chesapeake, which was a white pizza with crab and shrimp and a white sauce which basically tasted like shrimp and crab alfredo with fresh sliced plum tomatoes, the crust was light and beautifully charred (take it from a native Brooklyn girl I AM VERY PICKY ABOUT MY PIZZA), my fiancee had a Chicago pizza which was also great, with a light marinara sauce and lots of yummy toppings. The service was very attentive - refilled our iced tea without asking and was a very personable young lady. Even better, we got home and realized this AM, he forgot his phone there and they found it and kept it safe for us. Paul, the manager made very sure it was ours. So we're really happy with Puccini's. It will definitely be our stop off place after next year's festival!

Driving out to deep creek lake, we were hoping for a nice dinner but thought we'd be stuck with fast food. This place was quite a find. The service was fabulous, the food delicious, and it had nice ambiance. They also have a great beer selection. My boyfriend and I usually split entrees to control portion sizes, and they put our dish into 2 little bowls for us, making sharing easier. We loved this place and will definitely go back next time we are driving through.

This was a little gem of a restaurant on our way to Pittsburgh. My husband had a Caesar salad (yummy) and I had a burger which was very good as were the fries. I won't say this is a great restaurant by a very good one for where it is located. Worth a stop during a long road trip. Be warned parking is a little limited and the "old motel" vibe may not appeal to all. Don't worry the dining rooms are not in the old motel part. Try it.

Damn, just a few weeks short of getting the first Yelp of Puccini! You owe me a drink at the great little restaurant just off of Route 68 that is Puccini, Brandon! Yes, a drink! They have a full bar, and very nice waitresses and happy clientele. What a god-send! I turned off of 68 looking for a country-style restaurant that I used to stop to break up the DC/MD-Pittsburgh drive. That restaurant was gone, but wow, what a find after three days of not being able to find a decent meal in the Clarksburg-Bridgeport, WV area. Beautiful crab-cakes that can be had on a salad, as can the decent scallops, which can also be had over pesto as an appetizer. Everything was good enough that I'm looking forward to skipping the meal before my Bethesda-WV trips and checking some of the pastas and steaks. If you're traveling with children, you may be glad to know that there is kids' menu. I'm a lucky guy to have found Puccini, or maybe I just have the knack or nose for finding good food.

Very cool place. Nearly 200 years old and a historic landmark. Food was excellent. The pizzas are amazing, the Caesar salad was very good & the meatballs for the kids were great. Above all, we feed our family of 5 for under $50 with plenty of leftovers

This was our second visit to Puccini's. We were travelling through the area and were hungry for salad and a pizza. Puccini's did not disappoint again. The portebello mushroom salad was a special and was perhaps the best and most inspired salad I've had in a decade. The pizzas were delicious too. The waiter was very prompt and kept our glasses full. I wish they were not so far away. Otherwise, we would be frequent dinners.

I'll keep this brief...The servers were friendly , the food arrived quickly, the pizza was great, the crab dip was excellent

This is literally the best wood fired pizza in Maryland. Worth the drive from DC. Looking forward to the next opportunity I have to get back up that way.

This place is easy to access for anyone on 68- it is located right off the highway. We stopped here last Friday on the way from Pittsburgh to Baltimore. It was early - probably around 11:30. The place was pretty empty, but filled up quickly as we were eating. We had our two young kids with us - there were kids menus and crayons, which is always appreciated. Oddly enough, they did not have milk for the kids to have as their beverage. I found this quite strange. I've never been to a restaurant with a kids menu and no milk. Don't they use milk in cooking, too? The kids' pizza is huge - probably the size of the individual adult serving (for a few bucks less). The girls (ages 3 1/2 and 18 months) raved about the pizza and ate a lot of it. Even after they pigged out, there was still some left for my husband to scarf down. My husband and I split a pepperoni pizza. It was one of the best pizzas we can remember having. The crust is very thin and cracker-like. The sauce is tasty, though put on with a bit heavier of a hand than I would prefer. The cheese was piled on thick. It also came out very quickly after we placed our order. The service was friendly and fine. We enjoyed our stop here and will certainly stop again in the future.
(4)Lilli K.
The wood pizza oven is impressive and smells like heaven, but the margarita pizza (with both tomatoes and very sweet, pasty sauce) was a bit soggy and lacked taste. The Caesar salad was too heavy on the dressing, which didn't taste homemade. The zucchini fries, though not "lightly" battered as described, were tasty and indulgent! It was hard not to gobble those up without sharing :) They seem to have a great beer list, including some regional ones that sounded great! The bathroom was very clean, and there are crayons for the kids.

Food was ok service was a little rushed because they were closing. BUT PLEASE CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS!!!! We were overcharged on everything and we even got charged $1.25 extra for asking for a drink on the rocks! Every item was charged an extra 2-3 dollars!!!! What a rip off!
(2)C J.
It was the only place open. It was sweet and the building was very pretty. The pizza was really really good. But my friend's chicken wrap was terrible.
(3)Oscar C.
I love the architecture of this cozy restaurant! They have the best Crab soup in town. The service there is great! If you want amazing pizza i would definitely advise you to go and try Puccini Restaurant. I have been there several times and will say, there has been no disappointments!!!
(4)Nicholas M.
The wife and I were debating on a place to eat at that we haven't had in a while. We don't usually go to Puccini's to eat (since the last time we ate in the restaurant and the waitress forgot we existed - it took 65 minutes to get the check), but we agreed that they have wonderful wood fired pizza and we haven't had it in a while. We phoned in the order of one Chesapeake Pizza (seafood with crab and such), and we also got one Buffalo Chicken Pizza (complete with huge chunks of chicken and blu cheese dressing on the buffalo sauce), along with an order of they're cheesy breadsticks (which is basically a ridiculously thin cheese pizza minus the sauce) with what I am calling a tub of marinara sauce. It was easily the best pizza I have had in the last year, and there was so much food that I will definitely have leftovers. We will definitely be back...as long as it is pickup only.

My wife and I stopped here while passing through on the advice of fellow Yelpers. We were not impressed. The service, while friendly, was painfully slow on a weekend afternoon when the place looked slightly less than half full. Our appetizer took a full 30 minutes (no exaggeration; we timed it) from the time we ordered. The entrees were another 30 minutes after that. Anything we asked for (e.g. ice tea refill, the check etc.) took 10 minutes without any apology or explanation. While the place looks nice, the dining room was buzzing with flies which were more than happy to share our food. When the host/manager-type guy asked how things were going, we seriously asked for a fly swatter, which he laughed at and said, "Yeah the front door is right there." He meant that there is nothing he could do about flies coming through the door, but I should have considered it as an invitation to use it. We ordered three items, the Puccini Zucchini, a Calamari Steak Salad, and a pizza. Puccini Zucchini: This was the lone bright spot of our visit. These are zucchini slices cut like french fries, battered and deep-fried. They were greasy but yummy. Calamari Steak Salad: This was basically large pieces of calamari covered in bread crumbs and deep fried, served on a bed of fresh greens. The dish tasted fine and the calamari was cooked properly (not too chewy), but nothing exciting or interesting. We've had many better calamari salads. The Pizza: For a place the touts its "wood-fired pizza", they don't seem to care too much about pizza. The pizza was nothing more than what you'd get at any corner pizza place, and more bland than most. The crust was soft and chewy (not crispy on the bottom as you'd expect from a wood-fired pizza). The sauce tasted like it came from a can. The cheese was plain old shredded mozzarella from a bag and was applied way too thick. The end product was rubbery, bland and could be mistaken for school cafeteria pizza. I was so underwhelmed I thought something must be wrong, but everybody's else pizza's looked the same. I would not recommend this place nor do I plan to return.
(2)Christina A.
They covered the Margherita pizza with thick tomato sauce. Why? I've never seen that done before. Especially in a place that specializes in pizza. Also the buffalo pizza had a thick later of mozzarella cheese over the chicken and bleu cheese... So out was almost too rich to eat. Neither of these excessive ingredients were listed on the menu's description of the items. The fried zucchini was very good.

Food and atmosphere are excellent! Short on servers but my waitress was awesome!

We spend a lot of time Spring through Fall in western Maryland, (Little Orleans), and have passed Puccini's often, never venturing in, as it looked pricey. But in July, we decided to stop in to celebrate an anniversary, and arrived for an early dinner around 4 pm. The waiter was a professional, made us feel very comfortable. Top notch service. We had heard about the wood fired pizza and chose two totally different small pizzas served with beer and wine. Delicious. A great, relaxing dinner. The check was a pleasant surprise, I expected it to be a lot higher. We have found a new favorite restaurant in Cumberland.
(5)Ari R.
Went here while on vacation in nearby Rocky Gap Resort based on other yelpers reviews. Great wood-fired pizza. I got the honey BBQ chicken pizza which was great. Others with me got the buffalo chicken pizza, which was good although the blue cheese sauce was a little weird; someone got the white pizza with crab and shrimp which was good but salty. We shared a slice of the bee sting cake for dessert which was delicious and I definitely recommend you save room for it. Each of the three of us ordered the individual size pizzas which were perfect size for one with room left for dessert. We'd definitely come here again.

I had just finished a 4 day bike trip on the Alleghany Passage last September with friends (tired, sore, was rained on but had a blast!) and my son suggested going to Puccini's for dinner. It was perfect! Nice atmosphere, and a cool historic building. We all had pizza and salads and it definately hit the spot. In fact, my family is headed there tonight to celebrate my son's college graduation! Can't wait to eat pizza and try those zucchini fries I keep hearing about!
(4)Jed V.
Quaint atmosphere for average pizza. Liked the thin crust but it couldn't hold up to the sauce and ingredients so was immediately flaccid. Could barely tell it was there except for the nicely charred outermost crust. Cheese rubbery, too. Overall, a touch above utility pizza.

Cumberland is the midway point between NoVA and my hometown in West Virginia, and I had driven by Puccini more times than I care to think of but never stopped. When an old friend wanted to meet up in Cumberland for lunch, this was the fist place I thought of. The restaurant is located in an historic mansion that served as a civil war hospital. Plaques and paintings in the main hallway tell how Confederate and Union soldiers fought each other for control of the house and valley. There are also about a half dozen small hotel rooms for rent; I assume you just talk to someone in the restaurant about renting them. The rooms of the mansion have been converted into a series of dining rooms, and our group of five was able to have a large table in a room to ourselves. Water came out quickly, but bread with oil or a sauce that I am accustomed to getting at many Italian restaurants was not provided. Three of us ordered personal pizzas, which were reasonably priced and quite good. A thin, crispy crust was topped with an ample layer of slightly sweet sauce and a blend of Italian cheeses and baked in a wood fired oven for their pepperoni pizza. I tried the scallop tortellini and chicken parm, both of which were well executed. The portions were large, but next time I go I will probably get their large pizza for myself as I could have eaten a little more than the individual size. This is definitely a great place to go if you live in the area or are passing through on I-68, and it is super easy to get to from the highway: you can't miss it.
(4)Gomer K.
Even though I only live about 7 miles away I just went for my first time. I was a complete Puccini's virgin. The old historic building is a bit of a maze but patio is nice and the downstairs bar area is pretty. The pizza specials are great, the pizza itself is great, and out server was very patient while explaining the deal of the day. Plus he didn't get mad when I ordered about 4 pizzas to take home when we were about to pay our check. Definitely go back!!!!!
(5)Nancy B.
I had a mini reunion nearby at Rocky Gap resort for a wedding. The old college friends and I met up here for dinner. There were four couples in all and the service was great. The waitress was even smart enough to divide the bill by couple. I had the crab soup so that I could also have the bee sting cake for dessert. Both items were very good. All the other couples thought their meals were very good too. Even the couples from New Jersey thought their Italian dishes were up to par. I liked the atmosphere too. The only weird part was the motel around it? What is that all about?
(4)Dianna A.
I eat here ever time I am in the area. The best buffalo chicken pizza I have ever tasted! Steaks are very good also. Deserts are awesome, try the Italian love cake. Yum! They also have the best coffee in the Cumberland area.
(5)cheryl m.
Stopped by on way home from bel air because of previous reviews. Great stop. Great service. Good pizza (marguerite) and even a good piece of red velvet cake. Would love to go back for dinner. Entire menu looked yummy. Unassuming spot, nice spot to spot!

Four of us stopped here on the way back to DC from skiing at Wisp. We had seen it going up the night before as it is literally next to the interstate and about 30 seconds from the exit, so it couldn't be easier to get to or back on the highway from. It was definitely a great find and if we head back up that way I'll definitely make a point to go back. We all ordered regular 12" size pizzas for ourselves, and each of them looked great even if I didn't like the toppings others in the group ordered. The crust is really thin, so if you're hungry you can just about put down an entire regular size by yourself without feeling like too much of a pig. They also offer a smaller 7" size which probably would be good for lunch or a lighter dinner, but I'd rather do the bigger size and take a piece or two home. It reheated the next day pretty well, although I'd use a regular or toaster oven since it is so thin a microwave would probably make it too tough. The pizza is cooked in a brick oven and they let it get a nice char on the edge and bottom, but not even close to the point of being burned - just right. The toppings seemed very plentiful and fresh, and they had a good assortment of meats and veggies that you could add individually as well as a good selection of pre-designed pizzas. They even threw some fresh basil on my girlfriend's margherita pizza when she wanted something green on it and they didn't have spinach available. Prices were very reasonable....probably $10-12 for a regular 12" pizza. The total bill for 4 of us with food drinks (tea and water, no booze) was like $45. This also seems like the type of place where everything else would be good too. The menu ranged from Italian staples like chicken parm and pasta to standard American stuff like fillets and pork chops. There were several specials the night we were there and they all sounded good, especially the salmon on risotto with veggies, but since it was my first time there and they are known for pizza I had to go with a meat lovers (Con Carne i think it was called) pie. We did have one minor hiccup - we ordered a garlic stick appetizer while we were deciding on our meals, and it got lost in the shuffle somehow and never came out. We didn't really mind since the 12" pizzas were more than enough food for each of us, but the waitress handled it great by coming by halfway through the meal and owning up to the mistake even though we hadn't said anything. She apologized and took it off our check and then even brought the breadsticks out in a box for us to take home. It made a good impression the way she handled it and she turned what some people could view as a negative into a positive for us. We spoke briefly to the manager on our way out about how good the food was and he seemed to genuinely appreciate our comments and care about the customers. He mentioned that the restaurant is in a house built in something like 1812 and was a focal point of a civil war battle in that area. Pretty cool, even if all that history does have I-68 running 100 yards from the front door these days.
(5)Ashley B.
This is the best wood fired pizza period. In fact, Puccini's (which I still refer to as "Uncle Tuckers" r.i.p.) is, next to family and friends, the thing I miss most about Cumberland. Great salads and beer selection too.
(5)Michael S.
We visited during a stay at Rocky Gap. The service and food were excellent. I had a personal pizza, which was just the right size and at a good price. It is very close to the Interstate, so it makes a good stop if you are driving through and looking for a quick place to eat.
(5)Linda A.
A great and convenient must stop for us on the highway going to DC every time. The food has always been fresh and surprisingly, this place has great fresh seafood dishes as well. The mussels in white wine and garlic (they also have them in Marina sauce) were deliciously plump and juicy. I love their crab cakes and soups there. A must try. Fresh salads come in generous portions and shredded pieces of grilled chicken were nicely grilled and very tasty. Crab cakes are meaty not just fillers. There is a huge Italian menu selection besides their signature pizzas. Service is always pleasant as the staff is very friendly.
(4)Jessica S.
It smells delicious: margarita pizza, zucchini fries, buffalo pizza, and bee sting cake... The crust sucks, the toppings are delicious but the crust is horrible.
(2)Patrick L.
We live just over 90 minutes away from Puccini's, but we make the drive to Cumberland every few months to eat there and drive back. My wife normally gets a peperoni pizza and garlic cheese breadsticks and I get the house salad and NY strip with fries and then we do the 3 for 2 deal and bring two back for the next day and give one to the in-laws. I'm not a pizza person (hate pizza unless it's a true deep dish i.e. thin crust an inch of toppings) but I normally swap between the Chicago, Honey Chicken BBQ, and Con Carne there. I think it's the wood fired and thin crust that gives it that different taste but unlike most places I actually do get pizza and eat it. The winner for me though is the steak and salad. I'm a purist and don't like salad dressing / or condiments on my food. If I use them it's because the food is horrible and I've never had that here. The first time I had the salad, there is something very bitter in it that isn't in salads I eat anywhere else. My initial response was to push it away, however, whatever it is compliments the salad and is what makes it stand out as a pretty good salad. It is also a little bigger than I'm used it. I always get my steak well done (can't do the pink thing) and a lot of restaurants think well done means burnt. I usually have one small piece that is a little charred but is easy scrapped off and I believe this is more of the wood firing. Anytime I went to Chicago there was a restaurant (that is now closed) that had the best steak I have ever ate and I gladly paid the $90 for it. I honestly think this steak at $30 is slightly better than it. I've ate it well over a dozen times and everyone has been the most perfectly cooked and juicy steak I have ever ate with just enough seasoning to give it some flavor. The fries are good but nothing that makes them standout. We've only had one bad experience with the wait staff since these owners too over and it was because they were packed and they acted like they didn't want to deal with us (about 12 of driving through to a truck show) but we said we would eat on the patio in the front and the attitude did change mid-ways through the meal to where it ended up that we weren't a burden to them. The thing that stood out to us though about the service is that we stopped by there a few months ago on our way back from our 15th wedding anniversary and we got our pizza and they were very skimpy on the toppings but it was good so we didn't complain. The waitress said something to us when we got them and then a manager came by later. It turned out a new cook started that morning and they made us new pizzas because it wasn't up to their standards. I've never had a restaurant to tell let me I was having a worse experience than I thought I was. Despite telling them that we were good they insisted on correcting it. I'm very impressed.
(5)Ben R.
The reviews other people were leaving scared the hell out of my girlfriend but we came away pleasantly suprised. I'm not gonna call this the best Italian food I've ever had, and the cusine probably deserves a 3. But it was the only place that was open, the service was great, the prices were super great, and because it wildly exceeded the expectations set by the angry yelp-mob, I'm giving it an extra point: 4! The zucchini fries were really good FWIW.
(4)Lisa T.
SOOO not impressed at ALL! The calamari was terrible and just a small portion for $12 when I can drive to Castiglia's in Keyser for perfectly cooked food and an appetizer 3X the size for $5.95...not to mention, but mentioning, when I go to Virginia and eat at Carrabbas Italian Grill, it is also a larger, cheaper portion made perfectly. I used to love your pizza but when I took my daughter there that had just moved to the area, it was totally burnt. Working in the restaurant industry myself, I don't even know how that made it to the table without somebody noticing. Neither of us have been back. It was SO disappointing.
(1)Robert Z.
Many a good meal here. Only have had the pizza a couple of times, but the pasta and fish are usually very good. Not the greatest if you are used to a large city, but one of the best places to dine in Cumberland, top 5 at least. Great draft beer selection, good wine list. A variety of seating options, including the pizza cellar, and out doors in front or back. Historic setting, and I'm sorry for those who think Olive Garden or Carraba's has atmosphere, but real atmosphere makes a good part of the meal, and Puccini's has plenty.
(4)Jaren R.
This place is so confusing to me. HOW does it have so many amazing reviews? I get that the building is historic and unique, I loved sitting in the pizza cellar. But the food? No. Let me tell you how to make a pizza like the one I had at Puccini's. -Take a tortilla. -Put ketchup on it. -Slice some tomatoes super thick and slap those on there. -Break up string cheese and sprinkle that on there too. -Toss a few pieces of basil on top. -Bake in a hot oven but only so long that everything is melted. Tomatoes should still be cold. Make sure the middle of the "pizza" is soggy and not even capable of being picked up. Seriously, was it because we ordered the "personal sizes"? You could not even pick up the pieces...they were just soggy tiny triangles. So bad. So, so bad. 2 stars because the building was cool and the service was good.
(2)Jonny P.
Go for the wood fired pizza in the pizza cellar. I had arugula, goat cheese with caramelized onions on a thin crust. Incredible. Anne had a ground beef and mushroom pie. Great flavor and value. Appetizer was fried zucchini fries with a spicy horseradish sauce. Delicious. The server Amber was spot on with her service. Friendly, professional and attentive. The only ding I would give them was the parking. This place is a converted Motor Inn and they turned some of the rooms into shoppes which is very cool. But parking is tight, and the over flow parking is down the hill. Dessert was good though the red velvet cake lacked the proper cream cheese frosting. Anne had the bee sting cake which was very sweet. If you're staying at the Rocky Gap Casino spend you money here with the locals.
(4)Chris R.
I went there last night. Reservations seemed more important than anything else. Never needed one before. Now don't get me wrong - I love the food. It is great! The service on the other hand was something else. When my waitress asked me for my order, I asked for water , no lemon. Confirmed with her - Guess what? Got it anyways. Placed my ordered for the Chicago Style Pizza with no mushrooms. Guess what? After watching it sit at the kitchen window for literally 15 minutes, I finally got it - with mushrooms! I am allergic to mushrooms. I even told the waitress that. When it was corrected by the management, it was very good. The crab dip, was excellent too. Though you could not taste any crab - just artichoke. I don't blame the waitresses, it was busy. But I was never once checked on, until I was ready to leave (approximately 1 to 1-1/2 hours after I placed my order. So this review really is not about the waitresses or food. It is more about the cooks. While waiting for my food, I watched the 3 cooks make the pizzas. I was right next to them, so you could not help it. One with a scruffy long beard (no hair net to cover it whatsoever) kept eating while fixing everyone's food. Plus he had no gloves on at all. The other two were eating - not as much, but did wear gloves. The one thing that got me at first, was the fact they were eating over the customers food! The bearded guy left out back, for a break I would say. He was gone for about 20 to 30 minutes it seemed. He came back in, never washed his hands, and proceeded to starting making pizzas. Several times him and one of the other cooks, would go outside to get wood for the fire, and then immediately touch the prep food. I know this happens at other places, but you normally don't see it right up front. The management was right there, and never said a word to them about the eating, no gloves, or not washing their hands. I have worked in the restaurant business and in the medical field. I have almost OCD about washing my hands now; to the point that my doctor wants me to be more conservative about doing so. but when you are working with another persons' food for a restaurant, then washing is a priority - period.
(2)Sha P.
Stopped by to get a "to-go" order. Individual margarita pizza. I arrived and was ignored by the wait staff. Had to stay there for about 10 minutes before anyone asked me what I was there for. They didn't even look busy. Then another 5-10 minutes to get the pizza, which was cold as if I took it out of the fridge. I took a bit in the car before I left the parking lot, and was disappointed. I was looking forward to this but I don't think I'd go back.
(2)Rachel K.
Decent food (3 stars), nice atmosphere (4 stars - it is in a nearly 200-year-old building which is cool, but right next to a busy highway), awful service. Nobody was excessively rude and nobody spilled anything on anyone else but anything else that could go wrong, did: servers were slow, inattentive, clueless, and made multiple mistakes with our order. We got off easy - the table next to us had a server take their appetizer orders, then ghost, and no new server was assigned to that table so then they just sat forever. The building is pretty nice though and it was fun to sit outside in the sun.

Just passing through. The pizza is DELICIOUS!! The crab dip appetizer rocked my world (served with "breadsticks" aka cheese pizza!)!

We've been by here a ga-gillion times but hadn't stopped for years- I think it was still "Uncle Tucker's" then. Today, after a long day driving home from vacation we wanted to stop and have something good. After readings some reviews we were convinced....and we're super glad we stopped . Although it was carb-a-licious and very cheesy it really hit the spot. The zucchini fries are pretty good, but not the best I've had. We ordered the buffalo chicken pizza which was very good- not too much of anything and well balanced. My fav was the wedge salad- crispy bacon and creamy bleu cheese...yum! The service was fantastic and friendly and we really enjoyed eating outside after being in the car all day. Great for kids- very laid back and family-friendly. The only thing I'd change would have been to have asked more specifically about the meal I wanted for my daughter. They had pasta OR meatballs as choices for kids meals... I asked of she could have some pasta and a (one) meatball. They brought it with pasta and three meatballs (with no sauce which she loved) but then charged me $9.75 instead of the $6. I guess I could have asked for a meatball a la carte to not double the price? Overall we were impressed. Since we only live about an hour away we will definitely stop again. Awesome local family-owned business to support when traveling I68

Food was good. We tried a few pizzas. However, the service was really bad. The manager/hostess lied to us about the seating area. We didn't want to sit near the restroom - because of people going in and out can be disturbing if you are trying to have nice conversation and the floor cracked a lot. While entire other restaurant was empty), that's where we were seated and told that seats in front area were reserved. Nobody turned up to sit there despite us asking twice. So they just lied. I guess food was pretty decent - but very pricey for the quantity. I would not return.

Go somewhere else if good Italian eats are what you're after. This place touts "World famous pizza", granted, they didn't mention which world. I ordered the margherita, which should be the measure of a pizza joint. No bueno. The mozzarella was okay but the sauce had a weird tang as if it came from a can. The crust was undercooked and chewy. My dad had spaghetti and eggplant parmigiana. He had a similar take on the marinara sauce. Don't bother until the food improves...
(2)Heidi J.
The pizza is weird! Pita crust pizza with skimpy toppings. The staff seemed a little annoyed by our presence at 9:15pm (they close at 10) and we heard them taking about other guests. The guy at the pizza ovens ran a loud machine the entire time we were there, only 15 feet away. However, the zucchini fries and dip were very nice and it looked like the patio was beautiful. Free WiFi.
(2)Juliet W.
This is definitely one of the best places I've been to in a very long time not only is the architecture of the building awesome but the food is beyond amazing. We had the tomato mozzarella salad, zucchini fries, wood fired crab dip, goat cheese and arugula pizza, Chesapeake pizza, and the itialian love cake for dessert. Everything was awesome. I am so coming back next time we're in town. I honestly wish I could say more to as how wonderful this place is but words escape me. I loved it all and can't wait to come back.
(5)Erika S.
After reading another yelp review, my wife and I went to enjoy some pizza. The service was great, drinks delicious and the pizza, whoa. It was incredible. Our waitress offered dessert, and even gave us directions to a nearby liquor store since we weren't from the area. Definitely would return if ever in the area.

First experience with Puccini was a meeting in their upstairs meeting room. I wasn't terribly hungry, and I think I ordered a fish sandwich which I ended up not being very impressed with. Second Puccini experience was in the "Pizza Cellar" and being down there, I thought it was necessary to try the pizza, and boy am I glad I did. First time around, I had a BBQ chicken pizza and it was delicious. I've been back since then with my girlfriend and she loved it too. As others have said, the pizza is a wood-fired flatbread, and is DELICIOUS. Don't just get pepperoni or your "usual" pizza toppings, get one of their specialty pizzas, you won't be disappointed. I really like the pizza cellar's cozy atmosphere; they have a good beer selection, and it's nice to sit back, have a beer and enjoy their pizza. Monday through Thursday they do Buy One, Get One Half off; or Buy Two, Get One Free on pizza, so it's great to go with a date or friends and mix and match several specialty pizzas and be able to try them all.

Great historic location. Easy access off I68. One may think it is a fancy place based on the history and look, but it is quite casual. I started with a house salad, which was a generous size but not too big. The house made balsamic dressing was wonderful! More sweet than tart. .. Highy recommend that. I stuck with the recommendations and ordered the margarita pzza. If you like wood fired thin crust pizza.. you will love theirs. Personal size pie is VERY snall..just be aware... and since the crust is so thin, not as filling as a thicker pie would be. Since I had the salad too it was just enough Service was great and quite fast considering they make each pie to order.
(5)Richard S.
Nice, out of the way place. Our second time here. The thin crust Chicago pizza was great! Our server was friendly and attentive without being overly intrusive.
(5)Dawn J.
Completely thrilled with Puccini's!! Bread sticks were yummy, She Crab Soup made my husband moan, salads were fresh, pizza was amazing!!! My friend had the strip with the Mac n cheese and said its one of the best she's had! Merlot, Chardonnay and Moscato were perfect and finally the red Velvet cake was the perfect finish!!
(5)Ron H.
Great pizza. Stop here if you're traveling. My wife and I split the Chicago pizza. Nice size, lots of toppings and super crispy crust.
(4)Laura H.
Drove back from mom and dads to Columbus and stumbled across this great joint. The pizza rocked. Amazing beer and wine selection. Hit it at the perfect time....4 pm so the place was ours. Definitely by pass fast food and the same old same old when in the road. Try new and use yelp to help you!

Don't let the four stars fool you. This place is SOLID! The only reason I went with four is because only certain foods are worth getting here. I've been a frequent diner here for years and tried just about everything they've had to offer. I will say this: if it's an appetizer, pizza, or desert, GET IT! It's always tough to determine what to get first... though the spinach/artichoke dip or the wood-fired crab dip is my usual go-to. Then it's off to pizza land, where just about everything is amazing. Their wood fired pizzas are well worth the trip here. You can probably slip the Con Carne, as the meats are overly salty. Being a low-frills kind of guy, I tend to go with the Margherita, or an Americana with fresh basil. (That's right. FRESH.) Their desserts are out of this world. They do an amazing bee sting cake and red velvet cake, but I usually have my heart set on their New York style ricotta cheesecake with a kiwi drizzle. (So goooooooood...) The place is one of the cleaner in the area. The worst I usually see is watermarks on the silverware. The staff is always polite and helpful, and the waits are never long. Just do yourself a favor: if you come here, get the pizza. Their burgers and steaks usually just taste charred, their vegetable dishes tend to be over oiled, their soups are okay at best, and their pastas are greasy and flavorless. Don't let that turn you away though, this place is WELL worth the visit.
(4)Cathy H.
Wonderful place, iffy location. Be prepared to walk up a steep gravel covered walkway. The entrance to the restaurant is first and the more casual pizza area is next. We went casual. We were seated right away without a reservation. It was hard to make a choice so we split the Chicago pizza, recommended by another reviewer. We also split Puccini Zucchini, which were Very Yummy! Altogether, a very good place to eat.
(4)Jodi M.
We went for a party in the cellar. We had a buffet of pizza which were all delicious!
(4)Lauralee H.
We were traveling through on 68 and saw the sign for brick oven pizza and thought we would try it. Wow! Delicious! We ordered the bread sticks, wedge salad, Hawaiian pizza and one with pepperoni. Yum. The service was good, price was reasonable. The look of it may scare you at first thinking of eating in a cellar but it's neat. Worth the stop on a long drive!
(5)Melanie M.
Liked this place a lot! We were in the cellar... it was a very cozy atmosphere. The ovens kept it warm! The wood-fired pizza was great! We were at a party with a "buffet" of pizza and got to taste several of them. The flavors were great! The interesting architecture and history of the building made it better for me. Definitely not the "same old same old" you get from a chain.
(4)Sandra T.
Great warm and cozy atmosphere, other than not being a fan of the pizza...everything else was great! Chicken marsala, mussels, ceasar salad. Great staff. ..would definitely recommend!
(4)Jason Y.
Not bad food. Good atmosphere. Pizza is a bit limp for my taste also a bit pricey. Nice outside section for seasonal dining.
(3)Julie D.
The wood-fired pizza is a must-try! Absolutely my favorite, and i LOVE pizza! Crispy crust, lots of varieties. We usually get a few and sample a few slices of each! So many varieties to choose from or build your own pie! Seafood, steak, and pasta options are always delish too, but a bit more pricey, if you're game for that. Downstairs is a more causal environment, and upstairs a bit more formal. All in all, never a bad meal at Puccini, and we've been eating here for years!
(5)Gerald H.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: The pizza here is very good! Especially if you aren't a fan of the 'cookie-cutter' thick crust chain restaurant style pizza. The crust this paper thin, crunchy, and the toppings are very good! Recommendations: #1 Buffalo-chicken pizza. #2 Rancher. #3 Regular pepperoni. As for the other items (pasta, dessert) I have not tried enough to give an accurate description. Great stop when traveling through the area esp. on I-68. Right off and right back on. Easily accessible!
(4)Matt L.
Second visit confirmed everything about the first. Loved that they had a solid craft beer selection, including a local offering. If you're passing through Cumberland, a must visit.
(5)Mike T.
Great wood fired pizza restaurant in a great historic building. Puccini's offers an upstairs and downstairs that both have that old revolutionary feel. On this trip we had the Meat Lovers Pizza which was absolutely delicious as well as the Margarita Pizza which was pretty decent, but not as amazing. We also got an appetizer of the Fried Zucchini.. Wow! this plate was huge...and really tasty! I recommend stopping in Sunday-Thursday and getting the Buy one Pizza get one of equal or lesser value for half off... It's a great way to try two of the wood fire pizza's on the menu, and will save you some buck. Great place to hit up when in Cumberland or while driving on 220 or I-68!
(4)Rochelle J.
I would give it two stars, but the crab cakes were super good. We only ordered one regular sized pizza with three toppings. The sauce was plentiful, but the toppings were slim to none. We waited for an hour for our pizza. When it came to us. The dough in the center was not fully cooked. We were starving by that time and with a child, it we ate the pizza. We are not newbies when it comes to brick oven pizza. From CA to NC, we have found some awesome brick oven pizzerias. But this was missing something. I think well try it again. But it's definition not up to all the praise on yelp.
(3)Edward M.
This restaurant was in a beautiful, well kept, civil war hospital. We were drawn in by the billboard advertising brick oven pizza and that's what we ordered. We tried the spinach goat cheese pizza (they ran out of arugula), the pepperoni, and the BBQ chicken. They were all fantastically delicious. The service was great as well, our glasses never ran empty. But, we took off one star for the portion sizes. We ended up ordering a whole extra pizza because the individual sizes were pretty tiny and we were hungry after a day of traveling. Over all, we would love to come back to this restaurant and highly recommend it.
(4)Julia J.
This was my first time ever coming here and I honestly loved the atmosphere and the employees. The employees were very kind and curious. The food was okay. The pizza was very good! I would definitely recommend it! But one of the down falls about the food has to be the alfredo pasta. It was dull and there was not too much flavor.
(3)Rebecca B.
Penne with vegetables was excellent, but a little soft. Marinara wine sauce very good. Balsamic house dressing also excellent on the house salad. The building was wonderful, antique ambience - very nice - enjoyed the history. The wood fired oven in the basement is also very good for the specialty pizzas. Enjoyed.
(4)Sue W.
Great pizza, cool historic building. I plan to return - in fact Puccinis might become a regular stop on my treks between DC and Ohio. Disregard the naysayers in these reviews - I see an actual New Yorker rated this place 5 star - 'nuf said. The cheese pizza with pepperoni add-on was really good. Thin crust from fresh dough. Tasty cheese! A little heavy on sauce but it too was fresh and delicious. One individual pizza will actually serve 2 if you're having anything else with it. It's very substantial. The house salad was good & fresh, and the Italian dressing is hearty with parmesan cheese mixed in. However...the red onion slice was about a 1/2 inch thick and was pretty strong. I can only take that in very thin slices. Service was polite and efficient. Going to try those zucchini fries next time! The front patio, main dining room and bar are quaint & pleasant. I neglected to ask if there is dining space upstairs. Another reviewer mentions a downstairs bar, will have to check that out next time. Incidentally, finding it was a little tricky. If you're heading west on I-68, take Exit 46. At the bottom of the ramp make a right. Then you make that next right onto CHRISTIE RD, which will take you back under the interstate. (If you miss the turn you'll end up at the cemetery). Go about 200 yards on Christie and make the left onto Ali Ghan Rd. A block or so down you'll see Puccini on the left.
(4)Sarabeth F.
Neat setting. Very nice attentive waitresses. The cheese sticks were awesome, the sauce made them fabulous. I had a pepperoni individual pizza and husband had the honey bbq individual pizza. We were very hungry but still had 2 pieces leftover each so the portions are large. Both pizzas were delicious!
(4)Evan L.
Great brick oven pizza and atmosphere! Really easy to get to, right off the highway!
(5)David F.
Excellent wood fired oven enjoyed in cellar lounge. Fried zucchini first and Bee Sting cake for dessert. Definitely will go back.
(4)Ed B.
Wonderful pizza and atmosphere. Service was good but too slow, especially downstairs. Still worth the wait though.
(4)James D.
Fantastic pizza as good as I get in Rome! Sometimes even better. Eggplant was delicious cooked on the spot not frozen. Staff was exceptional! Desserts were over the top. A tad noisy on the patio with two highways but not that bad. Historical decorations inside etc. The experience was very pleasant and I will definitely return.

No offense intended but if you think this place is the cat's meow for fine dining, you need to get out of these mountains a little more often. Sorry! :) Located off I-68, we had been searching for a Sunday night dinner spot since Antietam and this was at the nexus of "getting back to Ohio ASAP" and "we need something non-fast food to eat ASAP". Yelp Search netted us this result and off the interstate we went. On arrival the crowded, tight parking lot was an indicator this place was a local Sunday dinner favorite. However we got in quickly with no wait and given the option of outdoor dining - either in front by the main entrance facing vehicle exhaust pipes or at the side patio with music blaring so loudly as to be heard over the I-68 traffic. We ordered the Portabella Mushroom appetizer which turned out to be a goopy, somewhat nauseating concoction of warm balsamic vinegar and bleu cheese smothering a perfectly good Portabella. Oh well, it sounded good on the menu! For dinner I had the grilled chicken alfredo. The pasta and sauce were actually decent but ths problem was that they exposed the chicken pieces to too high a temperature (probably using the same 600-degree pizza oven). As a result the little burnt, charred pieces had fallen into and mixed with the sauce. Although few and small, it doesn't take very much to really offset the creamy flavor of the Alfredo sauce in a bitter, bad way. The meal's only saving grace and only reason to rescue this review from 2 stars is their pizza. My wife ordered a regular size meat lover's pizza which was quite delicious - even the next day for lunch. And now finally for dessert, their Blueberry Pizza ala Mode. This is one of their signature dishes and claims to fame, it's kinda like a blueberry pie meets an open-faced sandwich. Quantity-wise there was more than enough for two, perhaps three people. But it was a sloppy mess at best and definitely not something that'll be reaching the annals of cooking lore anytime soon. Personally, after trying it, I'd prefer the same blueberry setup (just a few tablespoons worth, however!) simply on a slice of cheesecake instead of pizza crust. Overall, I'd have to recommend to drivers like myself that if it's a pizza you're looking for then this is the right place. For anything more, give this off-ramp a pass and see what else you can find.

First thing is first.. we were allowed to venture upstairs to the "haunted" attic where we saw two old wall drawings done in musket powder, neat. We had a cool waiter named Chris who was really friendly and funny. The food was ok, we had the buffalo pizza and chips and dip. Could've used some more refills but otherwise its an ok place to grab a bite.
(3)Melinda B.
Was so excited to dine here. I was expecting a high end meal. Our meals were edible but lacking in any refinement. The bee sting cake was even bland and disappointing.
(2)Scott R.
Even though this place is 2 hours from home, I must have driven by it 100 times, thinking I needed to try it sometime. We finally got our chance this past weekend. Things started positive as they were flexible with the reservation times - we were out biking on the C&O and just couldn't quite nail down our arrival. I called to shift our time back 20-30 minutes - no issues. Having never been here before - that process was a little confusing - we never did quite figure the distinctions between upstairs, downstairs, and outside. Even though our reservations were for downstairs - we asked to be seated outside on arrival, and again, they accommodated. In spite of all the traffic whizzing by on the interstate, the back patio had a strangely relaxing and peaceful ambiance to it. Hypothetically, the entrees looked great - after all our biking, I was tempted to indulge in a coffee rubbed flat iron steak special. But while waiting for our table we saw the pizzas coming out of the oven and it was pretty clear we'd end up with a tableful of those. The cheese pizza was best, the pepperoni was good (but heavy), and the Bianca (white pizza with artichokes, red peppers, etc) was delightful for the first piece or two, but whatever the white sauce was they put on it got a little rich and tiring after a few pieces. All in all, dining here was one of the highlights of our family biking weekend, so we'd definitely come back if logistics work out. Next time, I'll try some of the other dishes beyond pizzas.
(4)Karl W.
Our waitperson was very nice. The food was tourist-Italian. We had eggplant parmesan. It was a fried eggplant coated with bread crumbs on some pasta. Excuse me,,,that is not eggplant parmesan. The pasta was mediocre, too. The dessert was fair. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice. I would not go back except for maybe drinks.
(2)Lauren L.
Pleasantly thrilled by this gem in the middle of no where. The only problem is that this pit stop will leave you so full and satisfied you might need to take a nap in the parking lot before heading back on the road. We loved the zucchini fries, the spicy buffalo chicken salad and the crave worthy honey BBQ chicken pizza. We took the bee sting cake to go which was on the verge of too sweet but still delicious. Great service, historic building, wonderful food. Eat here!
(5)Chuq Y.
This is the place on the side of the road that you think you should stop at. You are right. You should stop. Every time we used to drive by, we would say, we should stop there. I'm so happy we did. When you sit down, get the zucchini fries. They are awesome. They have a handful of local beers that will go great with anything you order. Their pizzas are great. Thin crust, cooked just right and delicious. The Chicago pizza had great toppings! The staff is super polite, and you can sit in the basement (bar), ground level, separate bar and restaurant or upstairs, which I haven't been to yet. The parking lot is always packed when we stop and it's easy on and off 68. That doesn't and won't stop me from going back. Ask for the history of the place if you're interested. They should bring you a piece of paper that tells the story.

So I decided to give this place another try...my wife and I went there on a Tuesday afternoon and this time they were not very busy. We were seated immediately, and were eager to give it another shot. The wood fire oven was not working, so pizzas were not an option today. We were relegated to the other parts of the menu. My wife ordered the mussels and I ordered the calamari (trying to see if it was better this time). Update - it was not at all. It was just as bland and tasteless as it was the first time. The mussels had a few options and we picked the garlic version - epic fail. The mussels were very tasteless - like they just cooked them and added the sauce afterwards. I have had mussels at a few local spots, and this one made me dislike them all over again. We decided to end our visit there almost immediately and asked for the check. I would not recommend this place to anyone - even if the oven was out of commission. Just FYI - I have nothing against this place at all. I just love food and take pride in my recommendations and I cannot give this a good one at all. The waitress was very pleasant, and the rest of the staff seemed nice. I wish them well, but seek other options, if you are looking for somewhere to eat.
(1)Miranda N.
Best pizza around! Ate there last night and had crab dip to start which was amazing and then had The Rancher! Reasonable prices and a great atmosphere!
(4)Sally R.
Excellent pizza and great service. A real gem in western Maryland! Love the Buy 2 pizzas, get 1 free deal. Pizza to go!!
(5)Steven M.
We have driven past this place for years and finally stopped. The crab cake and pork chop were excellent and the honey cake was an interesting conclusion to the meal. Heather provided good service. Definitely worth stopping.
(4)Sherri G.
The best buffalo chicken pizza around. I believe it may even have been the original buffalo pizza for the whole areas when the place was called Uncle Tucker's. The other menu items are ac arrange but the pizza is by far the best wood fired pizza.
(5)Guinevere N.
If you are looking this up because you passed Puccini on 68 go ahead and turn around. I've never had an indecent food here.
(4)Virginia Y.
Stopped by cause my colleagues and I were coming back from a road trip to Falling water. The house looked quaint and somewhat colonial and italian. I went inside and was seated in the basement. It was a bit dark but still a cozy atmosphere. They need to edit their playlist though. The music was pretty bipolar, one minute it'd be a mainstream song, the next an indie song and then a somewhat obnoxious song and then a peaceful one... Anywho, I wasn't too hungry so I got food from the kid's menu! Haha I got the pasta with marinara and boat of meatballs. Both were so good and in the right portions! The meatballs came with chips. It was cute that it in came in a boat. Both dishes were delectable, definitely would come back if I'm around the area for pizza and zucchini fries.
(5)Willie T.
Great Pizza
(4)Eli B.
The food is excellent! The wood-fired pizza is delicious, but they also have so many other great options. It is perhaps a little pricey to make it a regular favorite, but every penny is worth the experience whether it's a special occasion or a casual meal. Staff is very friendly, too.
(5)Conrad K.
The food was okay but nothing special and the pasta main course was the size of a child's portion. The salad was crisp and very fresh.
(3)Garey A.
Just try it, you know you want to... My wife and I drove by this place so many times while on 68, and always wanted to try it. But since we're usually coming from Deep Creek or PGH, we usually ate before we left so it didn't make sense to stop. Until once, when we stopped for lunch. We got the buffalo chicken pizza, and a plain for the kid. Phenomenal. And the place was suprisingly empty, I think we may have been the first customers of the day. We stopped a second time, this time at peak dinner time, and we actually made a point to go there. The place was nuts, people going upstairs, downstairs, through narrow hallways, etc. It's like a big, old house (I mean that in a good way), and they sit people everywhere. Unfortunately service was much, much slower this time, which was no surprise given the number of people. The fact that we were in a bit of a hurry put a damper on things a little, but that was mostly our problem. But I do think, given the nature of the place, they're in a little over their head during the extremely busy periods. But the food was, once again, excellent. We only got pizza there so far, so I can't comment on the other stuff. Their draft beer and wine selection is good too, and reasonably priced. But given that I'm in the middle of a drive, I haven't taken advantage.
(5)J B.
I'm in Cumberland a few times a year and every time I am I always look forward to dinner at Puccini's. The atmosphere is as described, an 1800's house that served as a Civil War hospital with all wood floors and those stiff wood chairs from your grandmother's kitchen. Unfortunately I do agree with others that service can be painfully slow on some nights, and at other visits it is quick and efficient which completely makes a difference in the experience here. The food is average to above average, nothing cutting edge but certainly good and satisfying. With the risk of slow service why do I make it a point to go? The blueberry pizza for dessert. Homemade, warm, and delicious... and this is from someone who doesn't like fruit that much. The bee sting cake on the menu is supposed to be as popular as the zucchini fries, but I've never tried it because I can't not get the blueberry pizza. Maybe one day I'll go and skip dinner just to have both!
(4)Anthony I.
Ugh, the infamous pizza was more like doughy pita bread smothered in dressing. I was less than impressed by this place. I think next time I'm in town, I'll pass.
