Staying two nights in the area, and asked for a recommendation that wasn't fast food or a chain (that leaves the pickins slim in Cumberland, MD area). We had fried green beans for an appetizer and they were quite good. Wife had French Onion soup, and I tasted it...VERY SALTY. We suspect it has MSG in it because she had a severe headache and couldn't sleep all night. House salads were ordinary. She had the crab au gratin and it was a "petite" portion, but I would guess it weighed in at about 6 oz and it was all crab meat and a little cream sauce, also very salty. She is OK with salt, I'm not. She had a baked sweet potato and it was huge. I had the daily special, liver and onions. Liver was dry and a bit tough. It was covered with brown gravy and sauteed onions. Too much gravy for me. The mashed potatoes were real, but soupy. Side was butter beans, probably from a can with some ham for flavoring. I only finished half the liver...my three dogs enjoyed the rest for a treat. I had considered the C&O Crab Cake sandwich and a side which in retrospect would have been a superior choice. As the other reviewer noted, menu is pricey. The waitress said everything crab is good on the menu, but the prices for crab dishes (ex. the sandwich) run $17-25. The other items were in the $12-20 range, a bit high for the Cumberland, MD area which strikes me as a railroad town where "working" folks are predominant.

Recommended by a friend. Excellent choice. For was great. Service too!. will be back. It's close enough to make a day trip. Enjoy the food. The scenery. What is not to like

Their Cream of Crab soup is the BEST I've ever had, but as far as service goes the waiter staff can be downright rude. As for other dishes so so, but their recent increase in prices is a bit much on some items. Still the soup is worth going for all in itself.

Growing up my family went out every Friday. The stop would be the same for a few years and then we'd switch. We went to Bunnie's as one of those spots until my dad said "it's so crowded no one goes there anymore" so we stopped going. I finally made my family go back and it was just as good as I remembered. The Haystack salads are awesome, the soups are amazing, the desserts are great. The service is a little slow and there's no "bar" to speak of but it's a great place to eat. You'd never think so by the outside but the food there is awesome.

While visiting family in Frostburg, they highly recommended Bunnies. We went after the lunch rush, so they were not very busy. The restaurant was clean and the staff was pleasant. The french onion soup was served hot and was quite delicious. The fish sandwich was large, hot, and very good. The chicken salad was large and was topped with hot french fries and caramelized onions. It was accompanied by the best raspberry salad dressing that I've ever had!

4 words - Cream of Crab Soup. That is all! Try it...trust me! Lots of food options, great deck for outside eating, a local favorite for a yummy dinner or lunch out! Highly recommend because of the FOOD!!! Soooo good. Not upscale, but cozy and clean. Great wait staff - always friendly, attentive & welcoming! Remember to bring CASH ONLY because they don't accept credit cards, and I suggest parking around back in the bottom lot because backing out onto the highway in that S-turn isn't fun. Overall, I promise you won't be disappointed, especially with the soup - chunks of real crab meat, and tons of them - it's recipe I've been trying unsuccessfully to duplicate at home for years. Keeps me coming back!!

I have eaten here about a dozen times in the past 8 years. I have even brought an employee here a couple of times. The entrees are always tasty, and served fast and hot. The back patio is also quite nice. It overlooks a babbling brook and is soothing to listen to. The staff is always kind and courteous. I would recommend this place.

A favorite local place to eat lunch. The cream of crab soup is the best by far. Nothing compares to it around here. They don't skimp on the crabmeat. The addition of the outside deck makes for a nice dining experience when the weather is good. The staff and the owner have always welcomed us with a smile and great service.

The service was not great. We were ignored by the person behind the bar, but a server (?) did spot us and come up to seat us. The ambience.. oh my word. Think 1988. Tablecloths with paper placemats. The drapes on the windows and knickknacks.. (wow, thanks, autocorrect, I did not know about the double k in knickknacks.) The food was alright. Not very flavorful. In fact, the french fries had absolutely no salt on them. Blech. We put salt and pepper on them, and they tasted ok with ketchup (and I am not a huge fan of ketchup). I also put salt and pepper on my hamburger, because it was so plain. I have never done that before! I got a snow burger, which is a hamburger with provolone cheese and lump crab. Sounds good, right? The crab was overcooked, on the rubbery side, but definitely edible. The burger was cooked appropriately. It just needed something mixed in to give it some flavor. The bun was great--looked buttered and toasted on a stovetop. My friend got the Alex's something or other sandwich. It was pepperoni, ham, and provolone on a croissant. She said it was ok, not great. I did not taste it. She also got the flavorless fries. We agreed that they were well-cooked. We were going to give the place 3 stars for decent but not very good food. That was until an hour later, when my entire stomach fell out. It was exactly as enjoyable as you would think. I actually prayed to the toilet gods to take me. Then my friend started getting stomach cramps and spent some quality time on the pot. She was fortunate that her lunch sequela was not as memorable as mine. So I downgraded from my planned 3 to a 2. Maybe should have gone with a 1. I will definitely not go back! Gotta go Febreeze again.

!!!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! A very down home, bar restaurant with a family vibe to it. Dining room reminds me of your grandmother's dining area. Not a bad thing. It's trademark is the Haystack Salad. Has fries, meat and is HUGE! Get steak, you're welcome. They used to have buffalo chicken nachos which I miss so much! Great food, they bring refills in carafes, big portions, steak is good. Cream of crab is great. Wait staff is a different story: There is one waitress in particular who may be the worst waitress in the NATION. She is blond (NOT THE OWNER WHO USUALLY IS OUT FRONT) If you have her, you may be angry when she vanishes for an hour. I didn't let one bad experience with her ruin my rating. So worth it especially if you get the Haystack!
