Some friends took us Friday nite (Aug 3). Didn't even know it was there. I liked the decor. Kinda felt it was just right for the style of food available. Long and short of it. . . .go, it won't disappoint! $10.99 all you can eat buffet. The taste of the food is what so surprised us. Excellent taste with a very large variety. Even got to taste Sushi. Didn't die!! Recommend highly.

Walking by this place daily since its located next to golds gym, the wife and I tried it out. Presently surprised, though the decor reminds me of a neon lighted disco club, the food and choices were great,

There's some solid strength's to this place. The clean atmosphere, the friendly staff, the hibachi grill, and the sushi are on par with the average sit down asian place (though there are certainly better options in the area). The quantity of choices is fairly good, both standard buffet fair and a few specialties. There are a few weak points as well... the food is on the underseasoned side, and can be inconsistent. Certain dishes like the macaroni and cheese and the soups are downright unappetizing... but it is a buffet. When I go, I typically only get hibachi and watch for what sushi is fresh. Even only getting a plate of each, I feel like I get my money's worth.

The various buffet bars located in the center of the dining area are filled with all kinds of american, mexican and asian foods to choose from-- which is nice; but, my wife and I have found that many of the items are quite greasy, not very hot (as they should be), and of course on really busy day-- you have to side-step through a line as everyone parades by the various dishes to serve themselves. On the other hand-- we both think that they have a terrific sushi bar with an amazing selection of fresh crafted rolls, and a pretty nice grill where you are always assured of getting freshly cooked and "hot" grill cooked vegetables and meats-- these two areas of the restaurant are our favorites.

This is my second time coming to this restaurant. The first time I was here, Osaka advertised for having steamed crabs and did not have any. They said they rotate days. A few months later I decided to come back, February 4th at 8:15pm and this time they did not have fried shrimp. They close at 10pm - kind of early to run out of fried shrimp. When I asked one of the employees, she told me to get shrimp and put it on the grill... The other food here is fine - nice selection, when they have it in stock. Nothing too special here about this buffet, nice look and feel. It would just be nice to have what they advertise.

When I originally saw this place, I really did not expect much of just another buffet. Boy was I ever wrong! This place is the place to be...but you had better be very hungry. They have the most quality food I have ever seen at an Asian buffet of this type. The quality of food was plentiful and delicious. The overall service was outstanding. I have really been wanting to go back here...but I have not been starving enough to actually do it. The value of service, meal and experience was very reasonable. This place is a winner!

The food is pretty good. Somehow even when they are at capacity they seem to keep people moving, you never really wait for food (unless its Habachi, but they have to cook it!). I always get the hairy eyeball from the cashier when I tell them my 9 year old daughter is 9 (I think they charge more when they are 10), but otherwise the staff is pretty friendly.

Just tried this buffet out. Its alright. There is more American food than chinese. The chinese is good. There is a good variety of deserts, and an ice cream section. The sushi is not like going to actual sushi restaurant. Its low quality, and it is normally sitting out for a while. The price was a little more than I wanted to pay. There are four different aisles of food, 2 are american food, 2 are chinese, and one is salad, desert bar. The hibachi was good, my husband loved it.

Outstanding! While many buffets are known for having long lines, this is configured with several smaller stations that enables people to get around quickly to various stations without waiting in line. The selection of food and condiments is the best I've ever seen in a Chinese buffet. The quality is mostly top notch, although I did notice the General Tso's chicken seemed to have 2 recipes, so that was hit or miss. I did not try the Maryland steamed blue crabs. The yeast rolls were fantastic. The fruits and vegetables were perfectly ripe and fresh, and the desserts delicious. The ice cream is hand dipped, with about 8 flavors to choose from. The Hibachi is probably the best part, which makes this buffet unique. You pick your own ingredients, toss your ingredients onto a plate, hand them to the chef, and he cooks it right in front of you, then hands you the finished product on a different plate. The fried rice was of similar quality to that of much more expensive hibachi restaurants, and they did have the "yum yum sauce" to go with it. The size of the establishment is larger than most chinese buffets, but is laid out perfectly, and does not feel like a cafeteria, like one would imagine. To top it off, the prices were very reasonable for the amount of selection that you will encounter. The only catch is that they seem to have the Celine Dion channel tuned in 24 hours, as I do not remember hearing any music that was not performed by that artist. But the food and experience more than makes up for that minor flaw.

Sometimes I wonder about what we all hear and see. I dont know should I trust some of the reviews. One word to phrase my experience today ( Disguisted ). As soon I enter the place I felt kinda good to try a new place in crofton. There were a lot of choices to choose. Mixtures of different foods but the food was bland. It feel like the food was sitting there for awhile. Some were dry and hard. I should of known what I was getting myself into. This place is another chain of buffet in this area like Teppanyaki in lanham md and sakura in college park. Own by the same ppl but with different names lol. One thing that really got on my bad side was the seafood. The shrimp was not fresh and the so call snow crab leg was small and taste like it was frozen to long. The shrimp taste like it was thaw under hot water because the meat was mushy. The sushi rice was too hard because it was sitting there for too long. I am not returning..but I do like the buffet sakura in college park. Even though its a drive but the food is fresh and worth visting. This place needs new cooks .

I like to think that I am a buffet connoisseur..Osaka is great! The food is fresh, the service is great and the place is clean. The dinner menu, with it's seafood selection of fresh oysters, shrimp, and crabs!

The reason I will give this buffet a 5 star rating is even though the food under the hot lights may be a little dry or under seasoned it is still by far better than many of the other buffets I have been to. The sushi bar is incredible for being at a buffet and I was not even worried at all about having the raw fish in the sushi. I have been to this buffet a few times now and I must say it is a go to when I am looking for a place to eat. I feel like some of the other reviews are expecting too much for this place being a buffet and you cannot expect to have perfectly seasoned fresh food at a buffet. I have never had any problems with the staff being rude and I do not expect to have a waiter to pay much attention to me at a buffet and truthfully I would rather have the staff leave me alone while eating. Dirty plates were quickly taken from the table and the buffet as a whole seems clean and up kept well. If you are looking for a Asian buffet and you like sushi i highly recommend this place.

I have no idea what people are talking about. I went to dinner here last night and it was the worst buffet I have ever been to, and I have been to allot. They have a big selection but none of the selection was good. 2 kinds of prime rib that was hard and tough as a rock. I had to spit a dish (stuffed shrimp) into a napkin it was so nasty. I knew if I ate that I would end up sick. I only reason it got one star is because of the sushi that was the best part. I took my mother and she agreed we will not be going back there and I warn my friends about it. There is an excellent lunch buffet across the street in the princess shopping center I would pay for and it is small but the food has flavor and it is great. Please read and Im sorry if you don't believe me but u will see.

So for a $10 lunch buffet the review is at 4 stars overall. Place is huge and easy to get in and out of for a quick lunch. Service was good and people were constantly picking up plates, refilling drinks and restocking the buffets. *I do not eat sushi from buffets, so review not for sushi* Overall good variety. Meat and seafood selections galore. However some asian staples were missing. Yeah beef and broccoli and chicken and broccoli were there, but no egg rolls or sweet and sour pork/chicken (even though the sauce was put out). All 3 types of rice were dry and lomein noodles sticky and pasty. really no saucy dishes to put over the dry rice. Another strange thing was the chilled dessert line had cakes, pies, and mussels and shrimp? I Diddnt have dessert. But the fried sugar donuts are always a good time. The hibachi grill was kinda a let down. Some meats, eggs, scallions, and noodles. Wheres the baby corn and bean sprouts? I will go again, but doesnt seem any better than the one in waugh chapel.

This has become my favorite place to bring the kids for lunch or dinner when we have some time. It does have some of the familiar items that you'll see at other buffets like the cheese and surimi stuffed everything and friend foods but outside of that they have other options that some don't have. My favorite is the fresh sushi selection. You can watch the sushi chef make it right there next to the display and they usually have about a dozen different types. Pair the sushi with the area next to it where you choose your meat or shrimp, veggies, egg, etc., and they cook it there in front of you and it makes for a great meal and very reasonable. They have all the soups and veggie dishes plus large shrimp on ice, desserts, big tubs of ice cream - really large variety. The place is usually pretty busy so the food does not stay out long. The atmosphere is nice, great seating. They send out coupons in the mail and usually have one you can print off on their website for $1 or $1.50 off but even regular price for dinner is $10.99 and lunch I think is $7.99. Way less than our normal sushi place and when you're raising 3 teenagers, it makes a big difference!

  • D. E.

Nothing special. It's kind of pricey compared to other buffets. Just make sure you never go to this place on a off hour. I did that once and you can tell all the food has been sitting out for a while and the staff at these times seem more like they want to talk among themselves then serve you. During peak hours its fine. But the line to pay can take a while. I went during a peak hours one time and almost walked about because i got sick of the line taking too long just to pay. (you got seated immediately just the paying part can take a while).

We frequent this buffet and have never left dissatisfied. For the price, you can't beat it. The food selection is pretty diverse, there's all you can eat steamed shrimp, fresh sushi, hibachi, self-serve scoop ice cream (usually about 8 different flavors), and the usual buffet foods (salad, fruit, steak). The servers are incredibly nice, going as far to help spoon feeding my son (when he was eating jarred food) so that I could eat my meal. To date, they always make a big to-do and keep my toddler entertained. I particularly enjoy the sushi, I've had bad experiences with buffet sushi, and this place is the exception to the rule!

I took my 13 year old son and 7 of his friends to the movies to celebrate his birthday. After the movie I was going to take them to get pizza. I decided to try out Osaka. It was an excellent choice. We missed the lunch time price and had to pay dinner prices but it was still an excellent value. I can not believe some of the complaints I have read. For $10.99 everyone was able to find things they enjoyed. I lost track of how many times the boys went to the buffet. The Hibachi grill is where I would recommend starting. All of the choices were good and it tasted delicious. I wish I had added the spicy sauce to the mixture before it was cooked. My wife and daughter liked the sushi. It is true that some of the food was not well seasoned but I imagine with all of the different tastes it is hard to season food to everyone's liking. I enjoyed the spinach dish, the crab meat dish, green beans, and the salad. The cakes looked good and the ice cream had several flavors. I definitely recommend this place for families and groups. Very good value.

I hate having to do this, but on a recent visit there were cockroaches and other little bugs in the hibachi area that really turned off my taste for here. The walls have a lot of the small fruit flies all over too. It seems they haven't been properly cleaning this establishment so it is getting overrun with bugs..

It's hard to find a buffet that can meet all of your expectations, but this one was great!!! It's clean, the food is fresh and delicious, the service is good, and the prices are awesome! The sushi was better than most buffets that I've been to and all of the food was perfectly cooked, especially the vegetables, which can be overdone and gross at most buffets. I was very pleased with our experience there and will be returning in the future!!

I'm not usually a fan of buffets but after craving some hibachi & Chinese food I was able to talk myself into trying Osaka. I was really surprised how crowded the place was on a Friday night. If there's a line out the door, its a good place to eat. Anyway, so after trying a little bit of everything some of my favorite were: Black Pepper Chicken, Hibachi Chicken, fried zucchini and I also really liked the peanut brittle that was sitting in the desert area. It was far better than the Coconut cake & the chocolate cake. I did notice they had steamed crabs and they were really fresh but a bit small for my taste. They also had raw oysters, steamed shrimp and some steamed clams. As for the hibachi, I never ended up trying it maybe next time. The sushi was good but I typically am not a fan of "buffet" sushi.

Let me start by saying I typically avoid these buffets like the plague. We have all had a bad experience at a Chinese buffet and those cuts run deep with me. That said, my buddy convinced me to join him here and I was pleasantly surprised. First, for lunch, the cost is very reasonable. I got a drink and lunch for less than $10 bucks, pretty good deal. Solid sushi selection, they have the staples and they travel off the grid a little bit too. Good mix and it was tasty. It's clean, for now, hopefully it stays that way. They have a hibachi grill, nice touch. The food selection is vast. All kinds of Chineese dishes but a large selection of other dishes. It's safe to bring the kids, they have all kinds dialed down food like Mac and cheese, jello, etc. Only thing I don't know is how good dinner is compared to lunch, perhaps some crab legs may make it out to the buffet? Either way, for now this place stays on the suitable to eat list.

This place is very large, from what I saw it was very clean and the temps on the foods were really warm, which is a good thing! The sushi was pretty good as was the Habachi. They have a very good selection and some traditional american food for the kids who are not huge fans yet. We went for lunch, so I will have to go back and check out dinner, but for the price, this buffet is hard to beat! I just hope they can keep it up. One thing that did stick out....Their chicken on a stick was something different then I have really ever had, not sure if it had old bay on it or not, but I couldnt really place it for sure!

  • Eric G.

Decent place for the price, dinner was about $40 for 3 with drinks. Based on previous reviews, I didn't notice a problem with cleanliness, and the fits quality is at the level to be expected for a buffet. If I am hungry and just want food, I may come back. I will point out though, the service is very good!

First off , as soon as you walk in Osaka Grill the decor is amazing . I was greeted right away ! Each booth has it's own privacy . I went during lunch break so I didn't feel awkward to eat by myself because each booth is kinda blocked off . Wide selection of food ... I was impressed that nothing was running low . The food was constantly being refilled with more hot fresh food . I wasn't a fan of the stuffed mushrooms . They were hard and stuffed with just cheese...nothing else . The waitresses were on point and attentive ! I will definitely be returning and bringing more people . If lunch was great I can only imagine how dinner will be ! You can't beat the price for a wide selection of Chinese and American foods, hibachi, fresh sushi, a nice variety of desserts and handscooped icecream !

My husband and I travel from DC to this buffet at least 2 or three times a month just for the crawfish. It is SERIOUSLY the MOST DELICIOUS/AMAZING crawfish in the DMV!! You know your plate is piled high when fat people give a look of surprise! Lol No shame in our game, though. The flavor alone won't permit it. Their soups and stir frys are flavorless, and their dumplings suck. The fried calamari is great, as well as the fried and coconut shrimp. The ham is tender. The roast beef is tough, but flavorful. And their fruit is always sweet. Surprisingly, the cherries as well. The sesame balls are great too. Sushi sucks. The color of the fried chicken makes you think twice...the yellow color is uninviting, especially when you know it's not mustard. Chicken and broccoli is ok. Cakes are bleh. Icecream is very hard. The customer service is awesome. And you can tell the latino staff are teaching the waitresses spanish to get them bigger tips, but I'm not so sure that the waitresses understand what they are saying, which could be dangerous when talking to a man with a jealous woman beside him. Lol Make sure to tip big because the waitresses bust their asses to give impeccable service and for heaven's sake, TRY THE CRAWFISH!!

Yesterday, Sunday June 21, they offered a "Father's Day Special," where the buffet cost $5 more per person than the usual Sunday price, but lobster and crab legs were included. That is, if you could get them. The lobster was tasteless scrap bits of body and dried up claws covered in a brown "gravy," and snapped up the moment it came out of the kitchen. The crab legs were few and far between; the tray on the steam table remained empty. Folks crowded around waiting 15 minutes at a time for more to emerge from the kitchen on a cart. The crab legs were then doled out by an employee a few at a time until they were again gone and another wait ensued. I felt sorry for the gentleman who brought his whole family of 10, and paid $50 extra for crab legs that were not available. Our waitress was unapologetic and said that the crab legs would "get cold" if they left them out. Uh, no chance of that happening; there would have been a riot if the poor kitchen staffer had dropped the tray off in the steam table and retreated. After a couple of positive visits here, this one left such a negative feeling that I will not return.

Instead of firing up the grill for my July 4th. I took my crew here. Osaka has a lot to offer in terms of food selection. We ate everything from Prime rips to steamed crabs. You really can't go wrong at a buffet, what every your taste bud desires are they can be satisfied. Our server was very friendly, attentive and kept her section neat and clean. (Side bar: if you dine at a buffet restaurant TIP YOUR SERVER!!!! and tip them more then 10%. 10% tips are outdated like stirrup pants and shoulder pad cropped blazers paired together. I know I just dated myself but you get my point!) Anyway the food was overall pretty good. At least the foods I tried. We left with a full stomach and money still in our pockets. So if you ask me it was a win,win situation.

OK, OK fine. I have a weakness. And it's Chinese food. OK OK fine, I have two weaknesses, the other is Mexican food. Whatever. Don't judge. We went here on a Saturday at around 1230 with the family. The buffet is huge. Gigantic. Enormous. And then there's the sushi buffet and Mongolian grill. I ate only from the standard buffet side and sushi. Standard Buffet. I'm not sure what's happening here with Chinese buffets. But every one I've been to in the last year or two has macaroni and cheese and french fries and tons of other American food. I'm guessing this is more for the kids, but really parents, a piece of sweet n sour chicken or some lo mein isn't going to kill your little diamonds. It might make them better people. Actually, I'm sure it will - my kids are proof. Get this crap off of my Chinese buffet! I kid, I kid. Maybe. Anyway, back to the food - anything you can think of they probably have it. As for the food, it was average to below average. I think it was something like $25 for our family of four to eat, so the price was great for the amount of food we could (potentially) eat. We all ordered water to drink. The water tastes like pool water - not a comment on the restaurant as much as the city. There are also coupons which we forgot to take - so it could have been even cheaper. You pay when you walk in the door so there's no waiting for your check or feeling rushed while you're at your table. Sushi was pretty good. My 10 year old daughter actually tried some and liked it as well. I wish it would have been labeled since I'm a newbie to sushi and don't know what's what just by the way it looks. I didn't try the grill. Should have, but I didn't. My mistake, or hey!, a reason to go back! The restaurant was clean, service attentive and plates were cleared quickly. Bottom line, I didn't try everything, of course, but for a Chinese Buffet it looks like your best bet in the area as far as price, selection, and quality of food. But like I told my husband, if next time I want Chinese food that's more quality than quantity I will order $40 of takeout off a menu from somewhere else (I hear Hunan Rose is good?) and eat it in the floor of my living room while watching a Girls marathon. You're welcome.

I got food poisioning from here. Norovirus to be exact. Rude workers. The hibachi cook and waiters were giving dirty looks and yelling at customers. The cook threw plates around and gave attitudes.

I must say,I would recommend., Price is right, food is cheap. I must say sushi is hit and miss. to get "best" selection, be there early in the evening!!! they seems to "close down" sushi bar too early. Service can be hit and miss. But it is buffet and the food is pretty good. We have been there many times, if you have not tried it, I highly recommend it. Why it is NOT 5, as star says, "Yay I'm fan." NOTHING more. it is highly recommend this place to anyone who want to dinning out.

  • Big W.

The restaurant as a whole deserves 4 stars. I will explain why. There is not a big selection of of meats, as well with the sushi bar that can have a bigger selection of sushi. The buffet food is ok at best. I've also noticed that the waitresses are very attentive and kind. Now onto the best part of the buffet the hibachi station also known as "The Hibach". You pick what you want with any amount that you want from noodles, rice, egg, meats, and veggies. They'll cook it close to perfection. You can add garlic and spicy oil to your hibachi. After the hibachi is complete you can add the wonderful "yum yum" sauce that makes the hibachi even better in my opinion.

Okay, sure this buffet is a little like a Ross Dress for Less -- you have to soft through some dishes that are your run of the mill junky filler in order to find the real gems. For me, the gems are valuable enough to make the price completely worth it. BEST OF: CRAWFISH!!! I'm a little nervous to let people know about this, because I don't want too much competition for these. But ohmygosh these bad boys are ridiculous. I saw a lady with a huge pile of eaten crawfish on her plate, so I asked her i they were good and how you're supposed to eat them. She told me how great they are, showed me the way to bust em open, and now I'm that lady with a heap of eaten crawfish on my plate. You MUST suck the broth out of the torso/head. And I have zero idea of what they've seasoned these with. I can see onion and jalapeno slices, but the broth is cray cray(fish). I feel transported to a locals-only restaurant in New Orleans. Only available at dinner. BBQ CHICKEN: Moist, tender, perfect flavor. And good cuts of chicken, not that weird gelatinous stuff that gets fried up in most Chinese places. HIBACHI GRILL: You pick the ingredients, and they'll grill it up for you! There are rice noodles, chow mein noodles, white rice, eggs, an assortment of veggies and meat. These include something labeled "Vietnam chicken," two kinds of red meat, shrimp, and imitation crab meat. I get mine with 2 eggs, rice noodles, zucchini, onion, shrimp and crab + a heaping spoonful of the "garlic sauce" they have up on the counter where you hand the cook your plate. Oh yeah. FRIED PLANTAINS: These are the only plantains I've really liked. Other places make them too greasy or something. These are perfect, in my opinion. Warm and sweet. Mmmm. STUFFED MUSHROOMS: What's in there? I dunno. Cheese and ??? But they are really, really tasty. MEATBALLS: Again, not sure what's in these, but can I just enjoy that they taste a little like chicken and bacon and garlic and heaven? WHOLE SHRIMP: Shell on, whole shrimp on ice. I don't mind peeling them, because I like shrimp that much. But they're a good size, and you can dip them in cocktail sauce.

Today was my first time here. I came for lunch to see what it was all about after reading the reviews on here. The buffet is huge. This was the lunch buffet, and I assume the dinner buffet is even larger, since one steam table wasn't being used. Lots of choices of different Chinese and American dishes - from chicken and broccoli to coconut shrimp to fried chicken. LOTS of fruit and salads to choose from too. I give this portion of the restaurant an A-, or 4/5 stars. The food had a good flavor, but I've definitely had better elsewhere. The sushi is about grocery store quality. Not great, but not bad. It's more of an after thought to the whole buffet concept. B- or 3/5 The hibachi section was a mixed bag. Genghis Grill or similar places are much better. There is a wide variety of things to put in your bowl, but when you get to the end of the line, there are only 3 sauces - garlic, spicy oil, and soy. There goes the creativity! Also, the kid doing the cooking overcooked mine so my beef ended up being beef-flavored shoe leather. C- or 2.5/5 Overall, if you're looking for a lot of bang for your buck ($7.49 for lunch and kids under 3 eat free) then this is a good choice. They do a lot of different food, but none of it particularly "well". If you want quality Chinese, go to Hunan L'Rose in Odenton Shopping Center, and if you want quality sushi, go to Hanna in Piney Orchard. If you just want a crap-ton of food for little money, then you could do a lot worse than Osaka. Final review: Overall Grade: B- or 3.25/5

This is a buffet place with an Asian flavor. I have been here three times now, as it is a popular place for my family. The times I have been there they have been plenty busy so the food moves in the buffets and is frequently replaced. The hibachi is good (most of the time) and the sushi is OK as well, but this is clearly a place where selection and quantity rules over quality. Last time the oysters were good but the mussels were questionable, so just be open minded and move on to the next dish.

Sushi was ok. Hibachi station pretty good. Buffett food not impressed. The ice cream I was afraid to touch because little kids had their hands all over it.

Love it since the day it was open. Had to take a break because I like it so much. I go at least 1 time a month love the fresh food and full stock bar. I love Chinese food I would recommend to all. This wonderful place has a salad bar, desert bar, plus 4 more bars of American and Chinese.

Three insect sightings and proof in pictures of dead insects in the food, within 1 months time? Well that's just foul. If the food wasn't horrible enough, the reviews would be enough to deter me from ever eating at Osaka's.

  • Ashley E.

The hibachi part of this restaurant was amazing, but the buffet wasn't that good! Everything seemed dry or over cooked. The dessert ice cream wasn't labeled so you could see which flavor you were getting. Had to wash the spoon after every flavor yourself. They should just switch to soft served! Plus, the hostess and our waitress sucked at their job. The hostess was on her cell phone the whole time texting, while the waitress wasn't even checking in us

As far as buffets go, this is the biggest, cleanest, fanciest, and best deal in the area. The food is good (for a buffet), the selection will please all appetites and it's never crowded enough to fuss over. The sushi is surprisingly acceptable and if you try, you can actually eat relatively healthy.

  • John W.

The food is accessible, i like the food but i absolutely hate the sweets. The hibachi is my favorite i have had better hibachi at Osaka than at hibachi restaurants. STAY AWAY FROM THE SWEETS, all the cookies ice cream has fake sweetener in them not good. The oysters and clams do not get refilled fast enough. The junk food is always quick to be refilled. Better than most buffets but not the best.

Although this place on the surface may seem clean and delicious, it is disgusting and the management doesn't seem to care. My wife had come back with her first plate of food and eaten about half of it when she noticed something in her sushi roll. She freaked out and showed me and I was mindblown. It was a dead beetle sticking out the top of the roll. She had two rolls that we stuck and the bug seemed to have died trying to crawl in between the two rolls at the top. This was particularly disgusting as I had just finished off about ten rolls myself. I called the waiter over, who was just as shocked as me, and he called the manager. This nonchalant manager walks up to the table and asks me what the problem was. I showed him the bug and he says "looks like just a fly to me". I reply with "just a fly?? That is a damn beetle in my wife's roll!" He continues on not caring about the problem and told me that "it doesn't look like a house bug so it must have come from outside". No. Shit. I was baffled at his attitude. There was no apology, no offer to give us our money back(you have to pay beforehand), his only stance was that "we already had out inspection done" so this couldn't be harmful... We immediately gathered our things and left. I came back into the store to ask who his boss was. He replied that he was the boss of the entire restaurant. I then asked him if he was the boss of the whole buffet then why couldn't he do anything about how disgusting it was. An angry exchange took place for a minute and I finally left. This is the direct reflection of the managements carelessness on the health safety of their customers. Do NOT eat here. Mr Osaka restaurant manager, I hope you read this.. you are disgusting and I hope that reports to the health inspectors can move you to change your stance on what a clean restaurant is. Rant over...

So I read all the reviews before going here but had to try it out myself... Skip all the extra stuff.... There was a hair cooked in the fried fish, told the lady and she looked at it and said okay......that's it, okay. Stopped the kids from eating and we got up and left. You have to care about what you serve your customers. Smh not a care in the world. This place deserve a one star if that. SMH okay

Delicious as it gets on the buffet circuit. Warm, good variety, looked fresh for a buffet. It even has some unique choices like calamari and seaweed salad!

For the record the address is 1633. Great price for the spread. Average $10-$12 a head. Chinese Japanese habachi and sushi. Some traditional American dishes for the kids. Huge sushi selection. The food was pretty good. But I'd go just for the sushi honestly. Great atmosphere. Clean bathrooms. This is an easy "what's for dinner" fix. Open till 10 pm or later.

We have been back a few times and have always had a good experience. Just reading through all the bug reviews and felt like I should update and share our most recent experience there on 10/13 for our daughter's 4th birthday. Why did we end up there? Because it's her favorite restaurant. She was going back and forth between Red Lobster and Osaka, and Osaka won out. She's a girl after my own heart. We had a great time. Food was same as always. No bugs. But the best part was our server. We've had her a few times now, and she is always so friendly. She loves to stop by and talk to us about our family and hers, and she does the same with other tables in her section. Never in an annoying way. This particular night I learned that not only does she speak English and Chinese, but she was also speaking really great Spanish with one of the tables near us. She acted like knowing three languages was no big deal. The best part was when it was time for cake and presents. Our server told us from the beginning she was going to bring a special cake and candles. What she brought puts anything I would have made to shame - it was a really good cake that wasn't on the buffet surrounded by animals and flowers she made from fruit (orange rabbit, kiwi and grape flowers). After singing happy birthday, she left and came back with a Halloween stuffed animal as a birthday present! I'm so glad my kid likes this place as much as I do.

As Eastern Asian buffets go, this one is pretty good. There is always something very delicious being offered, even if you don't like the standards. They have a great selection, including a sushi buffet and hibachi grill for your own mixed creations. Last time I went, I was feeling more veggie than I usually do, so I opted for the asparagus, green beans, and bok choy. All were very good options, very fresh, and perfectly cooked. Other favorites were pleasing as always, though I didn't find much joy in the fried chicken wing, chicken on a stick, or egg roll. But, that's okay, there was plenty for me to choose from and get full on. Left room for dessert this time, too, and glad I did. The pineapple was super-fresh and extremely delicious! Definitely a value for the money, and worth a repeat visit.

When u walk into a place and its crowded thats normally a good sign. The food and service is awesome. First time here and will be bringing the family. Oh! U cant argue on the prices.

I used to love coming here, but honestly I am getting bored of their selection of food. It's always the same! I guess for the price I can't complain, but I have also noticed that the restaurant is in need of repair. Last week, hubby and I went in and there were numerous ceiling tiles missing from the ceiling with trash cans to collect water underneath them. Fortunately, they weren't near the food. Many of the booths are falling apart, and the sides of them are covered in drink residue and food. I also witnessed a young child walk around the buffet, sticking his fingers in the food, before he was chased off by one of the employees. The ice cream was nearly melted in the freezer, and the container where the scoops were stored were filthy. I don't know when I'll be back, but it probably won't be soon.

For a buffet, this is as good as it gets! At least for lunch, that is! I took my daughter here for lunch and she had a ball! It is located in what used to be a furniture store so the space is gigantic! It is very nondescript on the outside, but extremely nice on the inside!! Nice tables, dim lighting and Celine Dion cd playing, sounds good!! When you go inside you pay at the front before getting your food! This is very convenient to me! Just go in and get your food! You are then seated and then you can dig in! This Chinese/Japanese buffet is by far the best and the cleanest in Crofton! And I like Empire Garden across 3, but this location is by far better! There are plenty of tables for dining as well as plenty of options to fill your plate! There is a sushi station where they are making fresh sushi in front of you as well as a hibachi station! Far better than most of the buffets in the area!! As far as food on the buffet tables, there is so much to choose from! From seafood, to poultry to even vegetarian options, there is plenty to choose from! And for buffet food, it is pretty good! Fresh food that is always being refreshed! Very good buffet! This is by far as good as a buffet gets in the Crofton area!! Love it!

When someone tells you there's a Chinese buffet nearby for less than $10 a person, you might think of it as a typical, greasy and dirty restaurant. But when I went there, I was so surprised at how huge and tidy the place was! Plenty of seats and there's also a party room in the back. There is a large selection of sushi all the way in the back and next to it is the hibachi grill. They have all kids of good stuff (better than those you order from takeout, I swear). Lunch and dinner menu are pretty much the same, except they serve crabs and oysters at night. They also have a bunch of ice cream flavors and other desserts. I mean, come on, all these for less than $10, you can't beat that. My favorite part was coming during the months of September, October and November. They have this anniversary special which is lobster with scallion and ginger (yes, included in their dinner buffet).

  • Courtney D.

Not bad for a buffet. The hibachi part is great since you can make it your own and made right in front of you. For the price of the buffet to include hibachi is definitely worth it! Sushi was mostly California rolls which aren't my favorite but they were fresh and had a few different ones. Gets busy on a Sunday night but for the price and variety of food, good place to go with large families or small groups. Service was pleasant and quick to clear plates or get more drinks.

I used to enjoy this place until I went on Sunday and saw a roach walking on the counter near the hibachi grill. When I told the employees they acted as if they didn't understand what I was saying. The roach crawled into a crack in the wall on the grill side so I know the cooks have seen them before. My concern is if it's in the front area they are most likely in the back where they make the food. I sent a comment to the health inspectors. It's a shame since it's their one year anniversary and already have bugs in the common area. Hopefully they can fix the problem because it was a great place. Just make sure you watch them make your hibachi since most people walk away and I was the only person standing there when the roach came out to say hello!

Been to this place 4 times since its opened & its definitely the best Chinese style buffet I've been to. Apparently the building used to be a Levitz furniture store before they went bankrupt so the dining/buffet area is ENORMOUS. Great for large parties also & they are accommodating when they seat you. Food is good overall. I'd say the stuff in the center buffet section is normal fare & hit or miss. If it was freshly made it should be fine but if its been sitting it won't have any flavor & I'd suggest avoiding it. Where this place shines is the ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI!! The sushi is on-par with the same stuff you get at any of the local Crofton sushi places (Otani, Fuji). Best part is the variety. Each time I've been here they've had at least 20 varieties of sushi on hand for the unlimited-taking!!! NOMs. If you aren't feeling like sushi definitely try the Hibachi (or as my gf calls it Mongolian grill). Pick if you want rice, rice noodles, asian noodles, pick some veggies & meat and hand it to the guy. 6 minutes later you get it back & its always delicious. They don't let you really pick the type of sauce they cook it with though so they just use teriyaki. They also have unlimited Turkey Hill ice cream and other pastries, crab legs, clams, and unfortunately fried chicken, pizza, french fries, hush puppies, fried fish to completely bastardize their selection, but this is MURICA what do you expect? Again, great place for large parties, although lately the place has been VERY busy and nearly at 100% capacity. The decor inthe dining room (as you can see from pictures people've posted) is also very modern & well-lit. They have tables for 2, 4, 6, 8 and will push tables up against each other for larger parties.

This was my first buffett I'd ever been to and I LOVED it. The food of course wasn't the best being as though this is a buffett place not a 5 star restaraunt but it was GOOD anyway. I love their mac and cheese and bananas with the red sauce! I haven't been to the Hibachi part of the place...wah. So I can't help you there. But everything was kept clean and the service was bomb. I reccommend! All though...my fortune cookies always have ty-pos.

I went here very often to enjoy the buffet. The buffet price is very reasonable. Variety of foods to choose from. The Mongolian grill was awesome. You pick whatever you like from the grill bar and the chef will cook it for you on the round grill. Very fresh and tasty !!! There also a sushi bar. All you can eat!!! The quality are pretty good...

I'm a big fan of good food and typically I don't mind buffets. I tend to go for them because the endless amounts of food and it makes my black hole of a stomach happy. I've been to this restaurant once and I was expecting a nicer restaurant since the advertisement makes it look on the higher end of dining (although the ancient statues at the entrance were pretty cool!). Food: The food was ok. It wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either. The sushi is freshly made so that's a plus and always a favorite of mine. The general tso chicken was average, although it seemed like it was in the pan for awhile. I saw a worker pour hot water into the fish pan, which made it look plain and blanched, so I didn't touch that. They have various selections like seafood, some veggies, starch, and some other meats. Dessert was normal for a chinese/japanese buffet--usual cakes and some self-serve ice cream, which seems unsanitary knowing everyone puts their hand in them. Service: Our server was very good at pre-busing the table and refilling our cups. At times, it felt like she was a hawk and was always around. I even turned around and she was leaning on the back of my seat, watching us eat. It was a little creepy and unprofessional but it didn't really bother us since it was a quick bite. I would like for the workers to act a little more professional, but it's not a high end restaurant so I can't complain too much--maybe just give us a little room to breathe, is all! Price: It's pretty average for a dinner buffet (~$11)--you can find coupons in the mail all the time so that's a plus. They also have an atm there just in case you forget to bring cash for tip. Discounts are also offered to large groups of 25 or more, senior citizens, and military personnel (doesn't specify active, veteran, retired, etc). Unfortunately, I was disappointed in our visit. Maybe my expectations were too high. If you want a quick meal with endless plates, then it's a good spot. I wouldn't recommend it for a first date, anniversary, etc. BUT, if you don't mind the small things that I've mentioned, then I say, go for it. Hope this helps and happy eating!

My wife and I took our 3 year old here on Saturday 8/16/14 only because prior to that she had lunch with her mom there and loved it. I'm giving this 1 star because of that alone. However; I have never been more sick from food in my entire life. The place was dirty and I spent the entire night well into the morning extremely sick! I read other reviews that were put up last week where they found bugs in their food! I wish I would have seen those reviews prior to going to this place! Stay away! Hopefully the health department steps and does something about this place!

This place is a chinese, american, hibachi, sushi bar all rolled up into one (no pun intended). Or Great American buffet, Golden Corral on steroids. I am a General Tso's connoisseur and no restaurant in the Crofton/Gambrills area touches Osaka's General Tso's. I, also, enjoyed the hibachi station which was similar to the Genghis Grill. You use the raw items to make your bowl and hand it to the chef who stir-fries it. It was great! If you have a sweet tooth, the ice cream and dessert stations were extensive also. I will definitely be a regular here.

Expert tips: 1) Go straight for the hibachi and sushi. You can skip all the food laying around under hot lights. That's all typical buffet crap. But the sushi is awesome and you really can't go wrong with hibachi. One dude does those kickass tricks with the eggs and he'll gracefully cook you the best meal you've ever had at a buffet. 2) Little known fact: this place is BYOB. Since no one seems to know this yet, you look pretty bad apples walking in with a 12 pack. 3) Don't go on holidays thinking you'll have the place to yourself. Apparently lots of families take the direct mail ads saying they're "the most elegant buffet in the area" a bit too seriously. We came on Easter and it was packed. There was even a limo out front. I shit you not. 4) Always bring up the 15% off coupon your smartphone.

When there 3/10/13. Food is fine for the most part. Except that they intentionally mislabeled what they called salmon. That fish was clearly not salmon, it tasted more like bluefish (which is a much cheaper fish) it just has some sauce on it in attempt to change the color if the fish. Rude staff! I have never been given a dirty look when attempting to offer a server a tip before. She actually walked away giving me a sneer. Don't know what Tina's (doubt that was her real name) issue was but it was very offensive and unprofessional. Now that I think about it I am dropping another star off the rating.

My boyfriend took me here for dinner on my birthday a few nights ago. For two people 26 bucks isn't bad for all you can eat. I didn't think the food was spectacular, tasted like your average Chinese takeout type stuff. The sushi bar is pretty decent with lots of seafood to choose from. What gives this place a lower rating for me is the staff. Maybe they were just having a really bad night but it seemed like they all just hated being there and wanted everyone to know it. I watched as one of the kitchen staff scowled at my boyfriend when he accidentally got in her way as she was pushing a cart full of dishes. Then as we were putting on our coats to leave later, the "waitress" who had been hovering near our table almost the entire time says, "Excuse me but you did not leave tip!" I was a little floored to say the least and barely noticed as my flabbergasted bf fished out a few dollars and put them on the table. This lady then smiles and immediately rakes the cash off the table. Talk about gall! It didn't occur to us to tip because firstly it's a buffet where we serve ourselves and secondly she was refilling our drinks before they were even below half empty, and did this twice. We decided we won't be going back. 30 bucks (with tip now included) isn't worth average food and rude staff.

My family and I go there occasionally for lunch. The food is decent but what I like the most is the sushi. Decent selection which differs between lunch and dinner.

Three insect sightings and proof in pictures of dead insects in the food, within 1 months time? Well that's just foul. If the food wasn't horrible enough, the reviews would be enough to deter me from ever eating at Osaka's.

I hate having to do this, but on a recent visit there were cockroaches and other little bugs in the hibachi area that really turned off my taste for here. The walls have a lot of the small fruit flies all over too. It seems they haven't been properly cleaning this establishment so it is getting overrun with bugs..

  • Eric G.

Decent place for the price, dinner was about $40 for 3 with drinks. Based on previous reviews, I didn't notice a problem with cleanliness, and the fits quality is at the level to be expected for a buffet. If I am hungry and just want food, I may come back. I will point out though, the service is very good!

I think my husband put it best - "it's good for a buffet." The name misled me a little as I thought you could choose table service or the buffet. Turns out it is buffet only, but it is HUGE and offers many selections, some good, some not so good. In addition to the several buffet aisles, there is a hibachi station and sushi station. The price really isn't bad, $10.99 for an adult for dinner plus a soda if you want one. The cashier checks you in just like old country buffet or a similar place, but then you go about 2 steps to a hostess (ours was very disinterested in her job) who takes your receipts and seats you. Again, some food was great, some not so great, but it's a buffet so you can afford to figure it out. I find the ambiance amusing with all the blingy decor, pink/blue neon lights, and loops of songs by one artist (it was almost all maroon 5 with some taylor swift thrown in). Would I go on a regular basis? Probably not, but for a buffet, it's not bad at all.

I have mixed feelings about this place. As far as Chinese buffets go, it's above average in selection and quality. Service is typical for a Chinese food buffet, (meaning a lot of young girls stand around and giggle together while you try to flag one down to get a refill). I've been here a few times and have been fine with my experience overall, but today something happened that has decreased my opinion of this place. I went in with a coupon pulled up on my phone for 50% off a lunch buffet; it was not expired and very clearly stated it was for this restaurant. They would not honor it. The cashier said that they never have coupons for more than 15% so this one must be a mistake. I showed her the other coupons for 15% off, $2 off, etc...she said the only one they honor is the 15% off. She said that she needs to talk to her supervisor about it. I told her that they need to honor what they advertise. I may speak with a manager, but I'm not sure it's worth my time or trouble for a couple of dollars. What bothers me is the principle of it...a business is responsible to honor what they advertise...mistake or not!!!!!

Place has good food, kind of dirty in my opinion. Sushi and they cook your stuff like a hibachi! I love me some buffet!

The rice was good. The meat was chewy and the desserts were horrible.

The rest for the buffet is pretty standard and well prepared. The place is huge too so there is minimal need to worry about having to wait for a table.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
