In Columbia, craving creamy custard but can't conceive of campaigning through the countryside into the city for Charmery? Yes, I know there's a difference between custard and ice cream, but c'mon! Alliteration! Anyway. It's delicious and rich and the folks behind the counter are as sweet as the caramel they generously dollop on my small-size cup. Which is twice the amount I need, but I eat anyway because research. You're welcome.

what can you go wrong with nice creamy custard? nothing. I haven't been to this place since high school and returning three years later made me nostalgic - with good old icecream. I had vanilla with almonds, and he gave me a lot of almonds so that was great. the custard is creamy and filling, it hits the spot. price is great too, I will be back for some more in the future.

Good stuff. I got the chocolate custard which was awesome. My wife tried the cherry ice over vanilla custard, and the cherry ice was too sweet for both of us, almost syrupy. However, The vanilla underneath was excellent. We'll definitely go back, but we'll stick to custard only next time. Not the cheapest place, but having seen the sizes we'll probably just split something next time.

The Meadows custard us the type of place that you wish you knew about already. They operate under a simple idea...do something to the best of their ability. That something is delicious fresh made custard everyday. They have unique flavors combined with a excellent owner who is more concerned with the people he sees everyday then making a dollar. You walk into Steve, the owners, shop and you immediately can tell that you're in for some good custard! Enough said...just go and enjoy.

This is the best custard & ice in town. Far better than "Rita's". They are always so nice. I love the mango ice, but I get a gelati which is a layer of ice, then custard, then more ice. This place is kind of hard to see in the strip mall because it is on the side , you have to get out of your car and walk up the middle to find it.

Great service, tasty custard. This was our second visit and we'll continue to come back. The prices are a little on the high side, but the quality more than makes up for it (they make their custards in house).

A buddy and I met there and were offered samples of the days flavors. He realized it was frozen custard but it was so good I thought it was ice cream. We both had a drink recommended by Steve, the owner, and we both liked them. The place is clean with a handful of tables. If it's a nice day there are benches and stairs in the shopping center. There is a ton of parking is this shopping center, both in the front and rear.

We've been going here for a couple years now - it is our favorite ice cream spot around. The owner is a nice older asian man, always very warm and polite. The ice cream is fantastic. It's located in a small shopping center along with a grocery store and several restaurants. We will sometimes eat at one of the neighboring restaurants and stop in to meadows for dessert. For dog owners, the area is dog friendly! I kinda wish they were open after 9pm, but I understand the owner works the shop and probably wants a life outside of the business.

Delicious custard and really good service. Still haven't tried the coffee but there are a lot of coffee options.

I'm a big fan of frozen custard, and this place has the best I've had. A nice find after the old custard place near Enchanted Forest was torn down. Creamier, richer, tastier than either soft serve or fro-yo. You can also get it in various forms like shake, sundae, with espresso poured over, etc. The GF really enjoyed the "gelati" which is layers of italian ice and custard. The italian ice is made in-house, various flavors, much better than the watery stuff I've tried elsewhere. The mango was particularly good. They have an espresso bar-- the espresso itself was a little weak, but I get the impression the coffees are mostly made to be mixed with custard (or poured over custard). (the reviewer who said this is "just like a Rita's" apparently didn't try much here?) They also have fro-yo and varying flavors of the day. The father-daughter team running the place was friendly and efficient. There's a frequent-buyer card. We've already been back twice. It's cheaper than Coldstone or Baskin Robbins, and tastes delicious. A small is filling enough for an adult, though a medium is a delicious indulgence. Highly recommended.

Great for a hot summer day! So yummy! The gelatis and the Turtle are really delicious. Great service, too.

So this is my 100th review and it came by accident being that I was holding out on doing one for another business....however, this is the first review for this business location that is fairly new and brought to my attention by the Custard King himself..Bobby K. While entering in all the proper info for the business on Yelp to put it on the map.. I HAD to write a review just to finish the process. No problem if I weren't in the driver seat with 2 anxious kids in the backseat ready to get out and have some ICECREAM! A.K.A Frozen custard...super duper yay points for Mommy for giving them dessert before dinner on this rare sort of day. I thought I had been all over Columbia at some point of my 15 month residency of the area but I had not... in fact, I thought I might be closer to PA by the time I got here and did some recon work after many stops in the same shopping area to ask where the heck it was hiding! There is a little strip mall next to the grocery store (can't think of which chain it was) but it doesn't look like your typical strip mall where the stores are right in front of you and wondering what they are is not an issue if you're literate. The two strips are facing each other with a shaded walkway on each side and heavily shadowed but the trees going up the gut of it all. Well, anyways... if you're facing it on the grocery store side of it, it's on the flippin right hand side. When you walk in, it's a tight fit... maybe 3-4 tables and just enough room to order and having only enough room for 3-4 people to wait in line. I knew already what I was going to order for myself...shout out to Bobby K for the vanilla with the black cherry topping. I got the children's chocolate with chocolate cookies mixed in already. The black cherry topping was awesome, no glaze mixed into it to act as a sauce for the plain vanilla... only downfall to mine besides the the abundance of cherry ratio to custard was waaayyy off. I suppose some people wouldn't complain about that but for me... I portion out each bite... seriously, I do. The girls custard was awesome... they devoured it like hungry children from a 3rd World...poor babies, almost made me feel like I should've gotten them a larger size but the Mommy in me said "good-call Moms". Overall, the custard was smooth and creamy... the one person staff was a total sweetie for my daughters kept telling her "thank-you" every 30 seconds..NomNomNomNomNom..

My son and I discovered this gem when the Rita's down the street from us soon closed for the season. He was craving soft custard and not even Baskin Robbins was calling to him. So I "Yelped" it and found this haven. Not only is their custard out of this world, they have an array of creamy coffees blended with their custard. The best of both my loves, coffee and ice cream/custard!

I visited this place few weeks ago with my friends and got mango ice with vanilla custard. It was so delicious! Creamy with perfect amount of sweetness to the flavor. What's better is the customer service. He was so friendly. He even suggested that I should buy small instead of medium. It's a little far from where I live, but I wouldn't mind driving there again! :)

Mr. Yang is a community treasure. Remembers your name and your "usual." Great birthday cakes too - love this Meadows.
(5)Daniela M.
We love this place! The custard is delicious and the customer service is outstanding! I always order the black cow (custard with root beer) and my husband loves the turtle and affagato (custard with espresso). Our dog is also a big fan so they serve a little scoop of custard in a larger cup so it's easier for him to eat it :-)
(5)Gia J.
Cheap and very friendly service! I got a small with sprinkles for $3.45 and the serving was a pretty big size!!!
(5)Aaron F.
Ice cream and custard are great. Nice family run shop that is nice to have around. Don't let long line scare you they move fast. Great flavor choices and prices are reasonable. Definitely recommend.
(5)David s.
Excellent custard and a variety of sundaes splits pies and cakes available. The folks that run it are very helpful and friendly. It is an excellent spring and summer treat and we will be sure to come again. I got the apple cobbler with custard. My wife got a cone if cookies and cream. We got our daughter a kids cone that was huge. The vanilla is excellent.
(5)Jesse C.
Fantastic variety of flavors and options. The service is wonderful and the owner is such a nice man. Dozens of toppings and options available, fair prices, and huge servings.
(5)Anna B.
Lots of fun picks for kids, but also quite a few grown-up choices. Just tried the Affagato (vanilla custard with triple shot espresso) recently, and it was one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. Fair prices, friendly staff and fast service even when it's busy. I'll probably stick to Rita's for Italian Ice, but Meadow's trumps anywhere else in the area for custard-type treats.
(5)Courtney C.
Discovering meadow's custard may be the death of me, but it is worth it! This was the best frozen yogurt I have ever tasted. They only have two flavors : vanilla and the flavor of the day. Blueberry was on the menu the night I stopped in and I'm glad I gave it a shot. Rich, creamy, bursting with flavor, but somehow still light and refreshing. Fat Free, you say?! I'm in heaven. The small was the perfect size for me. Dessert is my favorite meal and I look forward to it all day. Meadows frozen yogurt made me feel like I was indulging in something decadent without consuming a thousand calories. I hope my husband is reading this....HINT HINT!
(5)Tim N.
Excellent custard, friendly staff. However, I was more impressed with the cleanliness of the restroom. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 12. I've never seen a restaurant's restroom that was so clean!
(4)Salma M.
I'm never going to buy ice cream from the grocery again. I'm one of those people who doesn't go goo goo gaa gaa over ice cream. i remember liking it as a child--even licking the bowl clean, but as a grown up, not so much. Meadow's custard makes me want to lick the cup and every last drop of it clean. SO GOOD!!!
(5)Julia B.
I haven't had this good of frozen custard since I was a kid!! Worth the drive if you love Frozen Custard. They also have italian ice and frozen yogurt

First of all, I'm not from Columbia so I am not accustomed to the hidden shopping centers in Columbia. Thank goodness for my GPS! This location is rather hidden in a cute little shopping area. On our visit, we arrived around 8pm and the store was crowded, with an older clientele. We both ordered Italian Ice- I got orange creme and my gf got lemon. We both ordered smalls and were served quickly while others waited for their sundaes and coffee drinks to be made. IMO, the servings are too large. I had a hard time eating as much as they gave me and it also started melting rather quickly. Rita's Ice is frozen a bit harder than Meadows. I really liked that they were giving out calendars with the special flavors of the day listed.

very good frozen custard, much better than any. if u r looking for home-made fo there. very nice owner and staff. this is what u r looking for!
(5)Patrick S.
This is pretty much a Rita's with a larger selection of treats and an indoor area. I love Rita's! There is one down the street from here. However I think this place is much better due to the larger selection of custard flavors and other items. I haven't had the Italian ice much, but my friends believe it's on par or better than Rita's. I like that they have more flavors of custard (cookie dough! peanut butter!) and have lots of toppings. The coffee drinks with custard on top or mixed in are great too! They also have frozen yogurt which I have yet to try. However, probably due to the larger menu, and the age of the workers at this kind of join, they do have a tendency to mix up your order. Also, they seem to be out of certain custard flavors temporarily when I go (they say I can wait 10 minutes for them to make more, or get another flavor). But whatever! All the flavors are good! The outdoor location is also a bit nicer than the Harper's Farm Rita's down the street.

I stopped buying icecream by the pint at the supermarket after I discovered the place. The star is the frozen vanilla custard with any topping (my fav is the caramel sauce with toasted almonds). They also have "sugar-free" frozen yogurt which has sugar in it but not any added sugar hence sugar free! It is pretty good too. The coffee drinks and italian ice are good but not phenomenal. If you save 5 or so ice-cream cone wappers you get one free. There is plenty of parking as it is next to a Giant grocery store.

Not complicated. Very tasty. Friendly service. A lovely place for a sweet dessert.

I'm unfortunately not able to eat much ice cream anymore because I've developed LI the last few years. However, I've been known to indulge every now and then when I can't resist. I happened upon this place looking for Fractured Prune, which has been closed for a while now apparently. It's a cute, bright little shop with a few small tables and chairs, so I went in. The owner was engaging and super friendly. I was just going to order from their coffee menu but he convinced me to taste several types of custard and get an Affogato Americano- basically custard in espresso with water. The custard was so smooth and creamy, with a very slight flavor. Not too sweet at all. I told him to be light on the custard due to my "issue" and he only charged me for an Americano. So nice to find good customer service. I will definitely take my kids back to try their yummy custard. They have daily flavors like Reese's PB cup and blackberry.
(4)Mimi A.
I see reviews that compare The Meadows to Rita's, but frankly, it's so much better! The custard comes in many more flavors- I especially love S'mores and Chocolate PB, and their small is larger than a Rits's large and only $2.80! It's so much tastier than Rita's as well. The ices are delicious and this may be where the comparisons come in, but again, much less expensive. Mr. Yang is very personable and aims to please. I definitely recommend The Meadows!!
(5)Reed D.
Much better than Rita's and cheaper too. Plus, they have a much more extensive menu including delicious milk shakes and very reasonably priced quarts to go. I live right by Rita's but when I want custard I drive the 3 miles to Meadow's.

Rita's has some competition now that Meadows Custard has opened in the Hickory Ridge village center in Columbia. The little chain opened Saturday with its take on Italian ice, custard and other treats. I probably don't have to tell you. The employees were talking about serving 2,000 people for the promotion on opening day, according to people who were there.. If you weren't in those crowds, then you should definitely stop by. Meadows sells custard and Italian ice, and they swirl it a thousand ways -- sundaes, banana splits, and shakes. They even sell espresso, and they have several variations where they pour coffee over custard or swirl them together. Even with the coffee, it's pretty much like Rita's. We tried a gelati -- the Rita's-style creation with layers of ice and custard. They're both delicious -- good flavor, smooth texture. With all this summer heat, it's just a fun to sit outside and eat something cold. My wife and I love Rita's black cherry, and we love the King's Contrivance fountain. But the desserts are close enough that I'm not sure that I'd drive past Meadows to get that black cherry. The Meadows custard will taste delicious on the benches there.

Excellent frozen custard!! Some of the best I have ever had. 2 specials every day also frozen yogurt and coffees. Always service with a smile and a friendly owner.

For real Wisconsin-style frozen custard, it's an easy stop off 32 when driving home from the Frederick area, in the middle of the Hickory Ridge Village Center on Cedar Lane, near the fountain--worth it, too. The creaminess of the cookies-and-cream flavor was outstanding, the flavors bright and true; for me, the rocky road wasn't raveable as to the others with me, but the flavors great and peanuts fresh. Just much better than any other frozen dessert or custard, and costs less than Rita's and others, too.

Our family loves this place! The owner is sooooo nice and friendly. It's my daughters favorite ice cream. We go about once a week. Janet's inspiration is a favorite flavor.
