This is a bar and grill. But they have completely redid the menu. They take burgers to the next level. Turkey burgers with grilled granny smith apples, caramelized onion, provolone cheese and mango mayo. Now that's a combo. They have an app with various specials. The app alerts you. Jumbo lump crabcakes and steak is on the menu.. They don't have this at your normal bar and, grill Maybe they have changed management or owners since other helpers reviewed..but I've been twice and the food is delish. Can't wait to go back and try brunch with the buttermilk fried chicken and sweet potato waffles and mimosas.

Food has gotten really good. Great place to watch football, see bands, and watch comedy.

And in conclusion..... The food and service is always good. Personally, I don't like bands playing in a bar but I can't take a star off for my choice of dinner spot.

Sonoma's is an alright place. It's a "Bar and Grill" type joint.. but personally I think it's more like an Applebees with a large bar. They always have some sort of special and the food here is actually pretty good. They also have some sort of crappy live band there on the weekends. The prices are relative to more of a sit down restaurant instead of a bar. But like above, it is more of a restaurant. Beers here are expensive unless during happy hour. Tuesday night is half off the Angus burger (which makes it $5). Includes lettuce, tomato, and onions... anything else is .50 to .99 cents. Go on restaurant.com and get a coupon for this place.

It's OK to be a Grown Up in Columbia! According to Yelp, Columbia has 167+ family restaurants, but only really 2 grown up sports bar like establishments. Sonoma's and Nottinghams. This is a niche market! And one, when cultivated creatively, can be very lucrative! Shots make more money than sippee cups and chicken fingers. This is a grown up gathering place with poker nights, live music, sports events, shot girls, cornhole, karaoke, and yes, there are smokers on the patio. This is not California. So yes, parents with little kids should choose another venue for a Friday night because here...it's happy hour! There are a GAJILLION of true family friendly places in Columbia! Young professionals, workers of all types, servers, singles, work friends, and all fun grownups let's hang out here, ok? Let Applebees and Chucky Cheese keep their little kid screaming market, Sonoma's should be a cool grown up hang out spot! Simply because, we spend more on booze & grub than kids do! And we have credit cards! Now...having said that, I wish they would bring back the Happy Hour food menu. Right now, there's nothing. C'm on Jerry - just a few items under $7 would make a lot of people happy.

Great place! Great food, specials and entertainment! Always can look to have a good time at this place. Whether it's to bring the family in for dinner or to hang with friends on the weekend! They even do wine and canvas night!

Don't let the name fool you. Sonomas Bar and Grill is a full service restaurant that happens to be a bar too. The new chef has created a menu that is creative and incredibly delicious! Weekly specials enhance the selection with fresh ingredients. There is nothing on columbia that compares!

Not a bad spot to watch our favorite local band "NewOldSchool". Food is ok, service is good, drinks are not bad. I have been able to use my restaurant.com coupons here to save a few $$.

Great spot to watch Steelers games and keep an eye on all the other games at the same time. And the crab man n cheese us "wow"... I normally couldnt bring myself to recommend paying $10 for a bowl but you wont regret this!" The service here is tops, too, on game day... Unusually great for a sports bar!

The most revolting margarita I've ever had, and close to the worst service. The bartender even tried to discourage me from ordering the type of tequila I'd prefer because "that's a really expensive margarita, would [I] prefer rail?"! No, thank you. I'd like what I ordered. Then, despite the fact that the place wasn't crowded, it took forever to get served, then forever to get the check when we wanted to get the hell out of there. Never again.

My company orders carry out lunch here. I took a look at the menu and set my expectations accordingly - standard bar food fare. I ordered a bowl of chilli and a bowl of crab soup. The chilli was what I expected - average. Meat, beans, and some cheese on top. It was perfectly fine. When I took the top off of the crab soup it had a "different" smell. I couldn't put my finger on it. It didn't smell "bad" but it was definitely pungent. I was a little nervous to try it but I thought, "I'll have one spoonful. How bad can it be?" I dipped my spoon in, scooped out some crab meat, vegetable, and broth, and put it in my mouth. It was so horrible my initial reaction was to immediately spit it out but the thought of plastering my office and desk with this scared me even more. I quickly grabbed my trash can and spit it out. The crab soup was possibly the most vile thing I've ever eaten in my entire life and that's saying something. It tasted like someone had poured an entire salt shaker in the soup to cover the rotten taste. I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth and my stomach was starting to get a feeling like I was going to gag. It was HORRIBLE. If I get food that I don't like I would typically just throw it in the trash and continue with my day. This was so bad I felt compelled to call the manager to let him know in case there was something bad in this soup so others wouldn't have the same fate. What especially concerned me is that I called 4 times between 7pm and 11pm and got voice mail. There's not a host or someone at the bar who picks up the phone?? I called the following day at lunch and one of the employees picked up. I asked for a manager and he said there wasn't a manager there. I asked when a manager would be there and he said he wasn't sure. he said that because it was Friday he wasn't sure if there would be a manager for the weekend. He asked me if I wanted a manager's personal cell number but I declined. Maybe this was an isolated incident. Maybe the food is normally good. Maybe they normally answer their phone and I called at a bad time. Maybe managers are normally on shift during lunch hours but the day I called they were out. I'm more inclined to think they have bad food and bad(absent) management. I know for sure that I won't be trying them again to find out.

We went there for my father's birthday and ended up getting soggy food and noisy neighbors and it was just unpleasant overall. I got the cream of crab and a Cesar salad. Not too hard to mess up. The soup was way too salty and the Cesar was very soggy with too much dressing. The rest of the meals my family got were not too great either. The short ribs had a lot of pepper on them, making them very "spicy" and the fries came out very soggy. The waiters were nice though, which was pleasant. The calamari, surprisingly, was outstanding! It's a shame the other food wasn't so great.

Crab dip, easy concept right? I dunno maybe the Chef isn't a Marylander, what we got was cream cheese with Old Bay not bad really, this was unceremoniously dumped over previously frozen claw meat, not folded. So we had watery untasteful crab topped with cream cheese, yuck, yuck, ain't going back if that's they're standard fare, that people rave about? C'mon really

As many have long suspected, Columbia was designed to be a vortex of gently-curving paths that lure passersby into disorientation, and it has succeeded admirably well. Example: we drove three times around the town center before accidentally stumbling on Sonoma's -- and even then, we had to walk past the sign and around a corner before we could actually SEE the place. So, good luck with that. Once you arrive inside, you'll be greeted with an ambitiously-renovated interior; it could easily hold several hundred partiers, but when we were there on a recent Saturday night there were barely forty, half of whom were in our group celebrating a birthday. There was a whole dance floor setup, but just one lonely DJ spinning in the corner, which was a little sad. (He was skilled, but had an irritating habit of playing only 1/2 to 2/3 of each song before transitioning into a new one -- just as you were getting into one beat, it would fade out.) The setup is a bit awkward: there are cocktail tables right next to the bar, and people were getting drinks and moving to the tables to sit, but then I got the feeling we were supposed to be ordering from (and tipping) the waitress if we sat at the tables. She was extremely attentive, offering to refill my water numerous times until I wondered if I should offer to transfer the tab from the bar. Maybe she was just having a slow night. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap and was pleased: fresh lettuce, spicy chicken and a nice balance of sauce. The fries alongside were nice and crispy and my friends ate most of them. The cocktails we ordered were fine, but very basic, so it was hard to tell if the bartenders were any good. (For instance, when I asked what they would recommend with Firefly, a sweet tea-flavored vodka, they advised water. It wasn't bad, but it tasted like . . . watered-down Firefly.) All in all, it was average, but I'm rounding down to 2 stars because there just wasn't anything that stood out about the experience.

Really like the atmosphere. Watched the Steelers game there on 11/30/14. Service was awful. 20 minutes for a beer menu and specials. 60 minutes for wings, which the server apparently never punched in and we still had to pay for them. Food was just ok, and house made fries were awful. Dirty plates were left on our table for 45 minutes. Outside of it being Steeler friendly and a nice place visually, the experience was a real bummer. My wife had the California wrap which contained unseasoned chicken and brown avocado, which also didn't taste right. Manager walked around looking like he was helping, but with the evidence I provided shows he was also rather ineffective.

This is a very small bar/grill kind of place that offers bands and even some light comedic entertainment. I have been here a few times, most recently on Cinco de Mayo (thats May 5th for all the non-spanglish speaking folks). We went there to see our frineds perform with their band New Old School and our friend DJ'ed there as well, Dj iRockJays! It was a nice night with drink specials and food for the Mexican inclined. The crowd was not too huge and we were able to get a table in front of the band set-up. There is no dance floor and you are literally in front of the band, but it is not that loud honestly. The staff is friendly, but they are understaffed on a full night, but they try their best to get your orders post-haste. My chicken tacos were a bit cold, but they were ok, and my Corona was cold and fresh so it wasnt too bad. The few times I have come here it has been a mixed crowd of young and old. It is a nice atmosphere, but like I said a bit small. It does have an outside patio area but it has never been warm enough for me to sit out there so yeah. I would probably only come here if my friends were performing with their band, but it would be well worth it. Come here for quaint surroundings, cold beers, and good times!

My boyfriend and I have been going to Sonomas about once a week for the past couple years. From the first time we came, we have always been treated well by the staff. I have read some of the other reviews and have never experienced a rude staff member once (so maybe those reviewers are people expecting 5 star food and service at a local bar...). I have a gluten intolerance and love that they offer gluten free beer so that I can eat wings (which I have never had a gluten related reaction too) and also enjoy a beer. Finding the restaurant isn't easy unless you know where you are going but well worth a trip. We have never had an issue finding parking, which is a huge plus compared to other bars where you have to valet... Definitely a hidden gem in Columbia!

Living here for a little over 2 years, this was the only place in Columbia, Md that I would recommend. Great food, great atmosphere, one of the best places to take your fur-baby. I come here at least once a week and when I arrive, my beer and my dog's water is right there as soon as I sit down. They have music at night and on Tuesdays is 1/2 burger day, the burger is the bomb! I'm moving so I will miss this place. THanks guys.

Sonoma's is a neighborhood joint that is mostly a bar. Back in the old days, it was almost entirely a bar when Howard County allowed smoking in restaurants. When that was outlawed, only the outlaws had guns. Wait, that's wrong. When smoking was banned, they knocked down the wall separating the small section for regular eaters from the bar. Think of Sonoma's as a neighborhood sports bar with decent pub food. The french dip sandwich is a winner.

  • LaTanya GeminiondaRise J.

My cousins and I visited this place over the weekend to try it out. Was not very impressed. The waiter was super nice and on point but the pub food is ok if you need to eat while you drink. I ordered steak but it was cut up like tips that was different. My cousins had the ribs. The rub was way to spicy and the sauce not that great and the ribs were to fatty. We did order alcohol and they tasted watered down. Yeah not impressed.

I went to Sonoma's the other night for a birthday party. I wasn't there long enough to really judge them as a bar but they were good to our large party, timely with our food, and the crab mac and cheese totally hit the spot.

  • Jody Z.

As with many places in Columbia, this one is hard to find! It's tucked in the back of one of those hidden shopping centers. If you live in the area, you know what I'm talking about. Please be advised that this is the Steeler's Fan Club headquarters!! I found this out when I arrived to watch Monday Night Football decked out in full Raven's gear! Sonoma's has lots of specials and bands throughout the week. If you join their e-mail list, you'll get the full scoop. We had $2.50 drafts and no cover on a Monday. The wings were awesome. Cheesesteak was okay, but the burger was AMAZING! It's pretty small inside but they do have outside seating and TVs everywhere. I'll probably be back for some wings and beer at some point.

SO & I paid a visit to this out of the way little pub recently and we really enjoyed it! Sat outside on a lovely day with the Ravens game showing on an outdoor TV. Great service, waiter was terrific. Standard pub food, sketchy area but a nice place to sit outside and enjoy a small meal and a couple of pints while watching a game.

This is a great neighborhood bar. They have live music about every weekend and drink specials daily. I lived within walking distance so we could get as trashed as we desired and stubble home. he he! They knew us well! Well enough that when we had an occasion to celebrate and there were too many of us to handle, the didn't call the cops, just waited until the next time they saw us (probably one to two days later) and asked that we pay the tap - whoops! But of course we did and who knows the riches we gave in tips? The food is decent and great with one of their many beers on tap. Sizable space but it gets crowded fast. It's right across from Lake Elkhorn kiddie play area, bring a sitter and a DD and everyone gets a Happy Hour! lol.

Okay, y'all want the bad or the good first ? Let's go bad .. Always good to get bad news out of the way... So we roll up and right in front of this place are four 20-something year old wanna-be-hood types one of which is coughing like he's about to barf out all of his drinks.. We scurried inside. Also bad -- the French onion soup -- tasting like 3 day old rainwater ... Lastly, my buffalo chicken salad didn't have enough chicken although it tasted good! So heres the good--- quality live music, great crowd ( for a Wednesday night at 11pm), nachos off tha chanizzle my nizzle, and reasonably priced tasty mixed drinks. I recommend a visit!

As far as the local Columbia bars goes, this is pretty on par with Houlihan's and Michael's. Actually, I kinda like this one more, but it really isn't quite as good. Once again, I can say the same about this bar as all Columbia bars. It's like a restaurant by day, it's clean, the staff rocks, the drinks are fair priced, blah, blah, bliggity blah. This is the only joint in town where the seating is a bit more intimate than preferred, but you can deal. I've caught a few local bands here. The first one I caught (and didn't catch the name of) apparently plays there a lot, and is a lot of fun. That's the thing about this bar. It's not like going out to "the scene". It's going out to a bar. It's a neighborhood bar. In a neighborhood. Fancy that. Columbia isn't a big city, it shouldn't try to big-city-up it's bars. You can go here, have a cheap drink, play some shuffleboard, and just chill. There aren't any goofy dudes with popped collars or so-so chicks that think they are knock-outs because they have highlights and dumped a few cans of spray in their hair, over-did eye shadow, and that weird, gooie lip-gloss (that is kinda hot) all over. If you want a neighborhood bar, it's this or Michael's. If you want a scene or something bigger than a local's joint, head to Baltimore or DC. "Jager Shots." You know.

Sonomas is a great little, "local dive" although with recent renovations its not quite a "dive." We frequent this place a lot because of the happy hour specials--1/2 price appetizers. The bar is pretty small and gets crowded after 9pm. They do charge a cover on nights with live music (usually Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat) of usually $5. They offer video games, trivia, and shuffleboard. The food is typical bar food. I stick to appetizers and sandwiches mostly, so I won't speak for their dinner entrees in this review. I prefer the appetizers here to most of the other "village center bars" that I go to. They have Mac-n-cheese wedges and lets be for real, who doesn't like deep friend macaroni & cheese?! The service is hit or miss, but its a small bar so you can always just walk up to the bar to get what you need. The bands there aren't the best in the area, but this place has a following, so give it a try--there's something about the music that keeps folks coming back every week. I've only ever heard 1 really terrible band there. There an abundance of TVs here for watching sports, but this is not the place you want to take a group to watch a game (due to the size). Stick to this place for having a few drinks and dinner after work, or watching a game on the weekend with a few friends.

This is a great neighborhood bar. Staff are always super friendly. Something about this place is very inviting. Lively crowd during football season and gets crowded pretty fast but you can make a reservation ahead of time which I always forget to do. Went there several times during NCAA and playoffs. I was surprised at how quiet the place was. Will be back more often once football season starts!

Sonoma's has good food and drinks at reasonable prices. I have gone in to Sonoma's over lunch many times, as well as stopping in on weekends after playing local sports with my team. While the food and drinks are always good, the service, while friendly, can often be extremely slow as they are often under-staffed during the day. Our softball team had to wait almost 2 hours for our food and we frequently sat with empty glasses waiting for the one server for the entire place to remember that our table existed. When going for lunch the service is usually a little better as there are fewer people in the restaurant to have to serve, but it still usually is over 60 minutes by the time you get your check. I have heard they do a better job staffing it in the evening and during major sporting events from others but have yet to experience it. The restaurant area has a large number of TV's and can pump the sound from one of them through the entire place, making it, I have heard, a great place to watch a game. Its worth a visit and a good place to eat, as long as you aren't in a hurry...which for its primary purpose of watching sports, shouldn't be an issue!

Wow. This place is like where gods go for a good drink. I should know as I recently walked across a pond to heal a wounded swan and came here for a drink. The drinks were stiff and the women were... abundant. Very laid back atmosphere and although I made the place more attractive being there it was only marginally more attractive.

I've been here during lunch, dinner, and for happy hour. Each time was good. There were some kinks here and there but overall my expectations were met, i would definitely go again, and i would recommend sonoma's to others. Atmosphere: Very_ bar-ish. Local, in one of Columbia's village centers. Location is hard to find if you are not familiar with Columbia's layout. Village center is located within a "village" so to speak. Its clean and nice. Food: simple, homey, basic American food. Sandwiches, burgers, some pasta and lots of heart attack appetizers. Its good... I can't complain. Service: I'm not sure how to rate this one. It's ok, not great. But then again, I'm not expecting five star service nor have they ever really given me superb service. The bartenders are nice. Lots of places don't even acknowledge you if you don't order alcohol- since that's where the big money is. I really like the bouncers. They're big and scary looking but super friendly. Other: They play live music!!! LOVE that! It gets really busy, really loud at night. Interesting crew of people but love it. Its definitely a homey dig, lots of locals and lots of restaurateurs that come here after work. So the people know each other. During sports season, its all about sports, etc. Their website is really detailed which i like. I've been on there a couple times to see who was playing. Overall, its a cool place just to hang out and meet new people.
