Excellent cupcakes!! The best I've ever had. Ever ever!! My personal favorite is the red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting. The cupcake is moist and delicious. The frosting is just the right amount of sweet. I got a little cake for my husband and he loved it too.

I bought my daughters birthday cake from here. I brought in a picture of the design I wanted and they did a wonderful job of capturing it. I would give it 5 stars except I didn't think the cake tasted very good. Now I do not like butter cream icing and the fondant was not good. The cake itself was just ok. I don't think I would order another cake from here. Now I did have two cupcakes from here as well and they were amazing, the red velvet had the best icing I have had on a red velvet in a long time. Prices of all their items are comparable to other bakeries I have looked at.

Cakes/cupcakes are so delicious. The cakes from here are so very good and VERY reasonable priced. The staff is very friendly and we're always willing to help.

I ordered 3 cupcakes from here. The cake was bland and the icing left an oily film in my mouth. Leaves the impression that the quality of their ingredients is is very poor. I actually ended up throwing the third cupcake out. Also, the assembly was sloppy; the icing was falling off the cupcake and looked messy and careless. Terribly disappointing.

My cupcake research continues (you're welcome). I almost flipped when I saw these massive cupcakes in the display--turns out they actually were, like, special huge ones and they have normal huge ones in another case. The cake was a little less moist than I would have liked, but it was still very fresh, and the frosting was nice. Not my favorites, but if you've got a craving, worth stopping by.

Fabulous customer service after I walked out of Linda's Bakery off Snowden from the worst customer service ever! Staff here at Oh what a cake were so helpful in my time crunch, and now I am doing all I can not to devour my second salted caramel cupcake! We will be back for all of our birthday cake needs...and cupcake cravings!

I like this place. The customer service has always been good. It is VERY hard to find. I often forget it's there while I'm in the area running errands because it's tucked away from everything. Which might be good for keeping the yummy cupcakes off my hips and thighs. I had a bday cake made a year or so ago and the owner worked with me to make sure it was exactly what I wanted and in the price range I needed.
(5)CC S.
Terrible customer service, Marcia is absolutely painful to work with! Rude, and unproffessional to say the least! The cakes taste dry and awful and the decorating of the cake looks like a five year old made it. Never, EVER will I use them again. If you want to have a good reputation, be friendly and have a decent product. Stay far far away from this bakery!

I live in Cupcake Town, a.k.a. Washington, D.C., where one expects to pay a pretty penny for one's cupcake addiction. Hence my delight in discovering that the cupcakes at Oh, What a Cake!, an inconspicuous little cupcakery in a strip mall on Dobbin Road, are both delicious AND reasonably priced. I used a Living Social deal to snag a dozen cupcakes, plus one for good measure, and the total came to $20. Mon Dieu! The same quantity would cost upward of $30 at Georgetown Cupcake. The young lady at the counter was exceedingly polite and helpful, and my order was waiting for me in all its delectable glory when I arrived to claim it. The cupcakes themselves are aromatic, straightforward, neat little confections that exemplify that fabled, elusive ideal cake-to-frosting ratio. All in all, would highly recommend based on cupcakes and price point alone. I would like to suggest using better signage, since the place is not easy to find. Had I not had extremely explicit directions, I would have surely driven aimlessly for ages searching for it.

The cupcakes here are super awesome and cheaper than places like Georgetown Cupcake. The baker was really friendly and funny. Only issue is that it is kind of hard to find.
(5)sherri s.
The cupcakes are good but not my favorite. I do like the filled cupcakes a lot more, particularly the amaretto cupcake. The cupcakes aren't as expensive as other cupcake shops.
(3)Maryanne M.
Delicious cupcakes and a good range of prices!

I grabbed the LivingSocial deal for cupcakes for Oh, What a Cake! mainly because it was affordable and local, and I was certain an occasion for cupcakes would come up. I'm a competent baker and cook, so mainly the appeal was for saving time and grabbing cupcakes that would be impressive or interesting. The smell walking into the store knocks your socks off. Hello, drool. The store has a lot of space for the necessary elements (counter, cash register) and thankfully it isn't full of superfluous sundries. I bought some birthday candles from a wire tree while I was there and those were about the only non-confection around. There was a box of cut samples of a strawberry cake - I didn't have any, but the clerk was enthusiastic about the flavor and indicated she would be cutting up more. She helped me carry the box out to my car (I'm on crutches) after selecting coconut, almond, vanilla and chocolate with vanilla buttercream cupcakes. She's the reason I'm giving a four star rating; I'm sorry I didn't catch her name. I brought the cupcakes to a friend's small dinner party, and while they were not the only cake available, we averaged a cupcake a person. The coconut were a hit. I had half of one of their almond cakes and found the cake moist with dense crumb. The cupcakes are very reasonably priced, considering the cupcake bakery trend. I wish that they had more cake varieties when I had come in - the frosting flavors changed, but the cake was either chocolate or butter cake - but I was able to fill out three each of four flavors for a dozen, and that's not bad. Their website gives an overview of flavors and pricing for more information. I'll be keeping them in mind for cupcake-appropriate occasions.

We wanted to get some treats with before meeting up with some friends, so we thought it would be good time to try out this place and get a few cupcakes. The cupcakes here were not as expensive as other cupcake shops, which is good, but also made us cautious. Turns out the cupcakes were pretty good though, and certainly better than something you can get at a grocery store bakery. The icing in my opinion was too sweet, but my friends really liked the sweetness. I wish the actual cake in the cupcake was more substantial too ... it seems like too lopsided of an icing to cake ratio, but that is just my opinion. But, overall it was good cupcake. I may need to try other places to see if the extra expense is worth it ...

Went there yesterday for their "Open House". I was running errands and I noticed the cheap handwritten sign that read "Cake Open House" and I decided to see what it was about. I walked into the shop-no greeting, no balloons, no nice display...this shop is ghetto!! If you're going to have a open house at least be friendly! At least look like you put some effort into it! They had books of specialty cakes but didn't have one on display! Jeez you could have decorated some foam so that people would've at least been able to see the artistry!!! Anyway, the cupcakes were actually tasty and prices seemed decent-however, they won't get my business. SPEAK TO PEOPLE WHEN THEY COME IN AND THANK THEM FOR COMING!!!-that's all it would've taken. Oh, and get a better Open House sign, some balloons and a better display for the cupcakes, Silly.

We drive from Rockville to Columbia because they really do have the best cupcakes! So much better than Georgetown Cupcakes and the other over priced shops. We love coming here, keep up the great work!
(5)Sennajams L.
The cupcakes tasted okay. Nothing special. They certainly were not very nice to look at. Very Ugly, if I have to be honest. The 6" cake was way too sweet and not very nice to look at either. The staff wasn't very friendly. The only reason I gave 2 stars is for the fact that they're low prices correctly reflect the quality of their product.
(2)M K S.
The cupcakes were ok.

My mom ordered a cake for my birthday, new the area and she wanted to try this place out. Ordered a cake and requested the cake be covered in sugar flowers, paid the extra $$ for it, and it was written on the form. However, the flowers are normal buttercream decoration, not sugar flowers. Cake is rather generic, same consistency as a grocery store.

Really great service. I order a cake for my husband's graduation from residency. Marcia worked with me on the design and she designed a really unique cake. Not only was the cake beautiful, it tasted amazing.

UPDATE: Have you ever eaten a cake truffle? Have you ever tried to make cake truffles? I've experienced both and this is how it goes! Making your own cake truffles sucks. Its messy and time consuming, but who doesn't want little balls of cake mixed with icing ((or whatever you want) and dipped in chocolate?! After making my own, I learned that Oh, What A Cake! makes them. I was SO excited! I went pick some up and see how they compared to my own. They had some red velvet ones and lemon ones. I chose the Red Velvet. 5 truffles for $3. Not so bad at all. I was expecting a much better presentation. Mine were prettier and I wouldn't serve there's at a party. The white chocolate covering the cake wasn't anything great, but the cake part was very good. I want to love this place. Its never busy, they staff is nice, they have a good variety, but I'm always leaving without that wow factor. I'm not an expert baker by any means, but feel like my cupcakes and truffles are better. Maybe I need to try their cakes? I just wish they had some by the slice. I can eat, but a whole cake is a little much. Side note: I love the way tihis place smells! Pure sugar...yum.

My BF surprised me with some of the red velvet with cream cheese icing and the chocolate with buttercream cupcakes. Both were VERY moist and yummy though the red velvet was the better of the two. I think the chocolate would've been better if they changed the icing. For some reason the buttercream icing didn't taste like buttercream at all. I wonder if it was a mistake. It tasted more like basic baker's white icing...like the kind my mom would make using confectioners sugar etc...when she was still running a cake decorating biz. Given how decadent the red velvet ones were (I could only eat just one b/c it was so rich), I couldn't believe the price when he told me. They are unbelievably affordable. While I really liked the cupcakes, I'm not sure I would purchase a cake. I'm really picky about cake design and was a bit disappointed from what I saw. Given the insane prices of several of the DC cupcakeries, I'll definitely give this place a shot and sample some of the other flavors they offer.

I had a livingsocial deal and got 1 dozen cupcakes. I decided to get two of each of the included types. The standard choc/choc, buttercreame/yellow, and vice versa; also coconut and almond flavors. By far, the coconut is delicious! I don't like coconut things at all and this changed my mind! However, the rest of the cupcakes are standard. The batter is moist but going to the grocery store is just as good : / I didn't get to try red velvet... 2 stars because It's overpriced cupcakes that are same quality and taste as the grocery.

Years back I worked at a cupcake kiosk for Dessert Affairs, however I got tired of their cupcakes and even more tired of their owner. Awhile back I had asked my friend (who also worked at Dessert Affairs) if she knew of any places that made custom cakes in the area when she told me to checkout her favorite place Oh What a Cake! I walked in one day and ordered six cupcakes to test this place out and was very pleased (and yes I am a cupcake expert). A couple days later I brought in a few designs I wanted to put together for my boyfriends cake. Luckily for me even though I was just a walk in the baker was there and was able to immediately take half an hour out of her day to accommodate me and help pull together all my ideas in to one amazing cake. They didn't need much notice only about two weeks and where it was expensive (about $360) it is still cheaper that it's competitors. The only thing I would have liked to see was the top layer of fondant evenly wrapped around the cake and not cut out and put on top (please refer to photo). Overall I will definitely be back next year for a cake for my boyfriends 21st birthday and I'd highly recommend this place to anyone else who needs a custom cake, cupcakes or any of their tasty treats. I'm very impressed with the company!

SUPER accommodating and friendly. I recently came up with an idea for my bday cake and they were very open to my vision. I'd tried another bakery and they wanted to charge me an arm and a leg for minimal work. I was really grateful to have been recommended this place and they were reasonably priced. I have pics of what they came up with and everyone loved the look AND taste if the finished product. Definitely plan to use them again.

I had them make an iPod cake for my niece a few year back it was pretty and delicious. I recently stopped in and bought one tray of small cupcakes and a tray of the large ones. I'm sad to say, I can't attest the same. They were very dry and of poor taste. I'm uncertain why the quality is not the same (maybe outdated or being kept in a fashion that doesn't allow them to maintain their moisture) but it's very displeasing to my palate as well as to my pockets. I have standards and until they raise theirs, they won't be seeing me again.

I must say I was very disappointed. I wanted an impromptu cupcake to celebrate my birthday, did a Google search and this place came up as the closest bakery in the area I was in. Of course I'm always eager to try new cupcake spots, so I made a beeline. The bakery is cute no fuss no muss not really in a location to cater to heavy traffic so there is no need for a lot of fanfare. The display had both large (muffin size) and normal size cupcakes. My companion went with the large red velvet and I went with a small red velvet and a chocolate chocolate buttercream. The weren't terrible but I have to be honest when I say they just weren't all that good either. The cake on all three was dry and the flavor was ok but being dry and tasting just alright won't win you any awards. I did like the frosting on both though, so for that reason I will give 2 stars. If I'm back on that side of town I might give it another go maybe it was just a bad day....

Oh, What A Cake! is an established wedding and fancy cake shop on Dobbin Road in Columbia that I discovered last month after I wrote about one bakery and got emails from people about this one. I have run errands on Dobbin for almost four years, and I had no idea that I was just blocks away from a cupcake treat on every trip. You should check out Oh, What A Cake! even if you just grab a red velvet cupcake, as I have done now twice in the past month. I actually bought trays of cupcakes both times -- once for dinner at my house and once to carry to a friend's. They sell small cakes that go for 80 cents or $1 and larger ones with fillings for about $2.50. They're all delicious, and the selection makes them a hit with a crowd. Vanilla cake with basic frosting for the kids. Almond, lemon, red velvet and other flashy flavors for the adults. Definitely try the cream cheese frosting, which has the thick but not-too-sweet flavor that I like best. In the end, Oh, What A Cake is all about wedding cakes and other pastry work. The shopping center sits on a commercial strip of Dobbin that connects McGaw Road to Oakland Mills Parkway. Not exactly a commuter route, but then Howard County's other best bakeries -- like Bonaparte Bread and Touche Touchet -- aren't placed for drive-by business either. Those places serve coffee and a broader menu, with some tables to sit. Oh, What A Cake is just takeout. Cupcakes in the car, I'm pleased to report, are oh, so delicious.

Average at best. Found through a Group-on deal that the staff complained about both times I visited. Cupcakes were OK, not very moist. Frosting was good, not too sweet like many butter creams are. A step above supermarket bakeries, but I wouldn't go out of my way again.

Got a buttercream cake with lemon curd made at a day's notice for my wife's birthday - so I like the place:). The flavors and presentation were decent but we thought the cake was a bit dry. Same goes for the red velvet cupcake. We had a much superior cake on my birthday from J P's Kake Korner bakery in laurel.

Sooo good!!! Yellow cake with chocolate frosting is my favorite. Their cupcakes are always moist They don't look as fancy as gourmet cupcakes with decorations, but they taste just as good if not better. The frosting is soft, which is good. Whenever I go to other gourmet cupcake places the frosting is semi-hard and I don't like that. I've got all my friends hooked!
(5)Allison L.
Picked up on this little gem after they offered a groupon deal. The cupcakes are wonderful! Especially the red velvet ones! Every time I go the service is friendly and cupcakes are always moist and yummy. The decor isn't the greatest and you can't eat your cupcake there but I can deal with that. I love stopping in after work for a sweet treat =)
(4)K. M.
I got a livingsocial deal for a dozen cupcakes - they were very good! Moist with rich frosting. Not a lot of variety, but as it is a small and reasonably priced shop I was impressed.
(4)Melissa C.
I bought my husband a 1/2 dozen cupcakes here, and an extra big one for my son and I. This is how cake is supposed to taste! The yellow cake tastes like real butter and vanilla and all of the frosting tastes like actual butter cream. My husband shared and we loved the red velvet, the yellow cake with lovely dense chocolate frosting, and the yellow with vanilla. This cake is not sickeningly sweet like some. The big chocolate cupcake with peanut butter cream filling was a hit with myself and my son. The bakery is so clean and bright and there was a line to the door. You might want to stop by.
