This is one of my favorite places. The owner is so friendly and kind and always remembers us. You see many familiar faces here each week because everyone loves this place! You can't go wrong with the gyro. I also love their BLT and the Kicken Chicken. All the sandwiches are big enough to share the skinny fries are great too. Go for brunch on Sunday's; they have great omlettes and pancakes. A neighborhood gem!

Tonight was a very disappointing experience and has left a bad taste in my mouth despite the fact that I couldn't eat a damn thing on the menu. Our waitress spoke no English which made ordering with food allergies essentially Impossible. The food I chose did not mention the correct ingredients on the menu which almost led to me injecting food I am allergic to. They were out of all steak except rib eye at 7:30 on a Friday. What kind of restaurant doesn't have ample food for Friday nights? I then had to spend my dinner out watching my friend enjoy a full dinner while I nibbled on a side order of the vegetable of the day. I have been here before and almost never had a problem but tonight's experience left me hungry and disappointed. So thank you for that. I will be sure to spend my time and money at a better run establishment.

I love this place! It's never a disappointment - well only when we have to wait for a table :) My husband and I are pretty much regulars because we haven't found anywhere as good. We'd rather spend our money here! The food is always spot on and the customer service is awesome. They have such a wide variety from pastas to Greek food and everything is fresh and full of flavor. They do meat really well. I wouldn't go anywhere else for a burger. I also don't know anywhere else around here where you can get phenomenal Greek food. They have brunch on Sunday's and it's also fantastic. The omelettes are huge and my dad couldn't stop raving about the banana stuffed French toast. I'm pretty sure he will want to go back next time he visits!

I live around the corner from this little family restaurant. We go there quite often. My kids love their gyros, and everything else on the menu. Food is always fresh and tasty! would highly recommend to anyone.

We value the service, atmosphere, cleanliness, and variety of offerings but they fall short of a higher rating because of the food. The food is OK just short of very good. We find several dishes too oily and others dishes uninspiring. As an example the egg platter has very good bacon cooked nicely, standard breaded toasted properly, very tasty potatoes, and consistent mediocre eggs (supposed to be the star of the dish) that are routinely overcooked with visible browning. Our experience with dinner meals is similar. We will continue to eat here when walking in the neighborhood.

We were looking for someplace good near the nature center and this shopping center popped up. "Greek-American fusion?" we pondered, but our curiosity proved to be worth it in the end. This place is among one of our favorite stops, and while not cheap the portions and the food are beyond compare. Let's start with your typical Greek food, such as the dolmadakia (with tzaziki) and souvlaki. WOW, that is all I can say, and I'm not the only one; my wife is a bit picky about her Greek and we even had a culinary student with us, and they both were amazed. They even said the tzaziki here was perfection! Then you have some interesting other dishes, with my personal favorite the "Death By Burger". Get ready for a heart attack, because this is sandwich consists of two 4 oz. burgers, fried egg, toppings (including a basil-parmesan mayo), except the buns are TWO bacon-stuffed grilled cheese sandwiches. For extra excitement (and danger), try its bigger brother... the "Grim Reaper" which has two 8 oz. burgers! Service here has always been top notch and we love it. Our first time our toddler was a bit cranky, and the chefs gave him a free plate of fries to keep him occupied! Prepare for a wait during busy times (and there's no seating area while you do) and this is typical Columbia cost, but no matter how long you wait or how big your bill it is 100% worth it. So, whether you're looking for traditional Greek or something new in the area, I cannot recommend Hickory Ridge Grill more. Opa!

A great place for lunch and dinner. The owner George is always there to welcome diners and insure satisfaction for all. Great family restaurant n

Very nice place. Heavy greek influence on the menu and all of it is good. A few of my favorites are the Firecracker Pork Penne; which is braised pork over nicely cooked penne with a habenaro pesto on the side. It is on the side because it is pretty hot and not everyone is up for it. It is soooooo addictive. Thier burgers are really good and the meat is ground fresh daily so you can got med-rare if you like. There are always cooked to temp and the topping (except the egg) are top notch. They fry that poor egg to death, so I don't get it. I have tried a least half of the menu and all of it is really good. So, why only 4 stars? Because the light are on the ceiling and they have ceiling fans moving which means there is a constant and noticable strobe effect going. Also, it is noisy as heck in there when busy.

Charming Greek cuisine treasure hidden in the hickory Ridge shopping center. Each time I go the food is excellent with bountiful portions. They are also great with entertaining younger kids which is a big plus.

I got a house salad with steak. It came with a pecan vinaigrette. It was pretty good. Steak was cooked medium just like I ordered. Friends got the Philly Cheesesteak and the burger with pineapple and ham and they liked it. Good casual restaurant.. Their menu is HUGE, lots of choices!

  • Ru S.

I came here after seeing the other Yelp reviews. 4 stars out of so many reviews is pretty good! The servers forgot to bring us menus in the beginning, which was a little annoying. The food was okay. My french toast was a little burned and didn't have the extra filling it was supposed to have (been some time now, think it was strawberry?). Coffee left something to desire. Everyone else's food was pretty good, though. And the prices were reasonable. Bottom line, you get what you pay for. Given that, I would be willing to come back.

A favorite place of mine! Ate there last night after a long hiatus and it's still excellent quality. My favorite dish there is the Chicken Souvlaki platter. It comes with a delicious Greek salad and great shoestring fries. The chicken is tender and flavorful from a tasty marinade. Have also had the moussaka previously and it is delicious! Good service and nice atmosphere! It's one of my happy places. Excellent tsziki sauce too! I hope it's around forever!

This was my first visit to the Hickory Ridge shopping center and discovering a generic sounding restaurant with some personality was very refreshing. It's billed as American cuisine with a Mediterranean flair but we stuck with the Greek selection. I had the Souvlaki Platter and my wife enjoyed the Yeeroe (which is just Gyro spelled out phoenetically) Platter. My Souvlaki was good, the pork was tender and both the the toppings and the pork were plentiful for the $14 price tag. My wife had the Yeeroe and said it was great, she'd definitely get it again. My advice is to ask for the dressing for the salad on the side, it was a little too much quantity-wise for me but was good.

Since we moved to this area a few years ago, this is one of the closest restaurants to us. There are actually a lot of gimmicky places in driving distance, so if we want BBQ or Wings or even Ethiopian there are plenty of options, so we always viewed the Hickory Ridge Grill as our "meh, traffic is going to be bad, let's just eat at Hickory Ridge". In honesty though, that mentality really does Hickory Ridge Grill a disservice. The fact of the matter is, it's actually a fantastic restaurant in its own right. And consistently so. Most places in this area I've had at least one bad or mediocre experience, EXCEPT for Hickory Ridge, and in total we've probably been here more than anywhere else. Here's the break down: 1) Service is always excellent. Always. 2) While I usually get burgers, the menu actually has some great and interesting stuff on it. In fact the Gyro platter is always my second choice if I'm not feeling like a burger (you can even see the gyro meat hanging up to cook). I've had no reason to deviate from that, even though they have plenty of other options. 3) Always passes my Iced Tea and Burger test. Let me elaborate - I can discern a lot from unsweet Iced Tea and a Well-Done Hamburger. I can tell if the tea is weak, or slightly mildewy, which indicates poor attention to cleanliness or refreshing the beverages. You'd be surprised how often I find this to be the case at places, but NEVER here. A Well-Done hamburger, done with a typical line cook, will either be burned on the outside or only medium-well on the inside. Getting a juicy, well-done hamburger that is perfectly cooked demonstrates attention to detail, and every burger I've gotten here has been flawless (and I get a lot of burgers). 4) To elaborate on the attention to detail, I'll frequently get the vegetable of the day instead of fries, and I'm always pleased with how well they turn out. A lot of restaurants will just steam some broccoli or carrots (probably in a microwave), but Hickory Ridge always takes it that extra step and has grilled or roasted vegetables. In Conclusion, Hickory Ridge Grill may serve as our "closest go-to in a pinch", but it's also easily one of our favorite restaurants.

Hickory Ridge Grill is located in a shopping plaza, so there's plenty of parking! Plus, you can walk off all you ate afterwards! There is an OK amount of tables and booths. Luckily, it wasn't busy when a group of 6 of us came in on a Sunday afternoon. They had two separate menus for breakfast and lunch. The breakfast menu consisted of your typical pancakes, french toast, and eggs. I don't think they have waffles here. The lunch menu was more extensive with items ranging from appetizers to salads to burgers to sandwiches to entree platters. We ordered fried calamari and garlic bread as appetizers. Both were OK, nothing special. I had to rely on Yelp reviews to help me decide because everything sounded so delicious! I ended up choosing the pork souvlaki sandwich. Pork Souvlaki ($9) was served in pita bread. The sauce served with it was balsamic vinegar, which I wasn't too thrilled about. I had to order tzatziki, which cost extra. All sandwiches listed on the lunch menu comes with a side (i.e., french fries, rice, mixed vegetables, or mashed potatoes). I opted for the mashed potatoes. Overall, the meal was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. Great spot to grab a bite! They also made splitting the bill very easy! Staff is friendly and accommodating!

Although we don't live too far from here, we hadn't tried it until Father's Day. We will definitely be back. Food was tasty and service was good too. My favorites were the london broil with the mushroom gravy and the salmon. Both were cooked perfectly and I was so glad there were no grill lines. I don't like grilled food especially since its a carcinogen. I got the pork souvlaki which was good but a little dry for me. My aunt got the chicken souvlaki which looked tastier. My husband and uncle got the Jimmy Zee steak which had a great sauce but a little on the salty side. Especially for my uncle who watches his salt intake. Iced tea was spot on! The salad and fries and zucchini that we got on the side were all excellent as well as the fried calamari appetizer. They also served great warm bread. I am curious to try some other things on their menu.

I am going to divide my rate into two parts: Upside: The food is delicious. The pita platter starter is great. The fish is always flavored well and the salads are great too. Downside: The service is horrible. Slow, inattentive. They seat you quickly but the order takes a while, they don't check back in, if you ask for a side or sauce you don't get it and the wait for the bill can sometimes be up to 20 mins. Even when the boss was in he sat down with a table and paid no attention to the other patrons. Also they seem to be closed randomly for various reasons. (Flood, family etc) I keep meaning to try call ahead take out.

i ordered chicken marsala and my friend ordered gyro. the taziki sauce was soooo horrible. it was mayonnaise(not yogurt) mixed w pickle. pretty disgusting!!!! the food was bad, but it was ok if you paid 5 or 6 $ compared to mcdonald's not if our bill was 35$. i own a restaurant so i could easily tell everything in our food was bought from "restaurant depot" nothing was made there. :( the only reason i give 2 stars instead of one was because of the pleasant guy who visited everyone's table frequently. i would definitely not return and not recommend......

Excellent neighborhood spot in the Hickory Ridge village center. First time visit, so opted for the gyros which did not disappoint. Meat was cooked to perfection + the tzatziki was great. Dinner menu had a gyro platter listed (which included fries + a salad) but our waitress was happy to offer only the sandwich + fries for the less hungry members of our party. Salad on the platter was a step up from most places offering similar; a nice mix of greens, large chunks of feta + tomatoes. No iceburg here! Fries cooked to perfection as well. Our only regret? Not paying more attention to the portion size of the food being delivered around us before placing our order. We were hungry, so ordered an app (greek bread) to split. While tasty, the portion was significantly bigger than expected. Dinner portions were similarly large. Be ready to take some home -- or order less. Reasonable prices, solid food. We'll be back for sure.

Really really really good food. Taramasalata was fkin awesome. My gyro was killer. I can't even express how good it was. Great service and great drinks. Omg. The freakin baklava was AWESOME!!!!

nothing special. the fries are gross with no flavor and the cheesesteak is not a cheesesteak. customer service is decent though.

I made the mistake of going to Ruby Tuesday's, out of convenience. I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich. I immediately regretted my decision as I compared it to HRG's buffalo chicken sandwich. The fries at HRG are better, the bun is better, the portion is larger and the flavor is better. For the SAME PRICE! Enough said. Also, the gyros are delicious! Haven't found something there I didn't like.

I've been here a few times and have always thought the food was good. Today, I had the BLT. The bacon was crisp, the tomatoes were fresh, and the grilled bread and basil mayo made it a better than your average BLT. The service is so-so. I was seated promptly, not a long wait at all for my food. But the waitress never spoke to me once, except to ask if I wanted dessert. She never greeted me, introduced herself, nothing. She basically came up to the table and stared at me until I ordered. She never checked back to see if I needed anything. So, saying hello even would have gone a long way. Speak!!

We came on a Friday evening for dinner, and though the place was packed, we were seated quickly. Our server clearly had a lot going on but showed up fairly quickly to take our orders, then came back after a bit with drinks. Husband got a chicken sandwich, and I got a veggie sandwich. He stuck with the default fries while I traded out for a Greek salad. All of the food was absolutely delicious. My sandwich somehow managed to make room for all of the flavors to come across and yet meld together beautifully. The mozzarella played perfectly off the oily, garlicky (both, in a good way) pesto, and the sundried tomatoes were sufficiently generously supplied to pop as well. The Greek salad was very good though lacking the traditional anchovies, herbs, and kalamata olives. Really it was more of a mixed green salad with feta on top and a non-creamy Caesar dressing. Not bad, just not what I expected. Hubby greatly enjoyed his chicken sandwich, and the fries were perfectly thin and crispy. The place was a little loud and crowded but it seemed to have a minimal impact on service- overall, very good! We'd return if we lived in this area.

Best restaurant in Columbia. Food is always great and consistent. I really can't say I don't think I have had s bad meal and have been going for years. Greek food is good(owner actually is Greek!) lots of burger options they are Excellent! My two favorites though are the Chicken Santorini or shrimp scampi. Service is always spot on. Gets busy at times, but you are always taken care of. Must try! Promise won't be disappointed. They also do breakfast Sunday's! Delish omelets and French toast!

  • Nikeita P.

I come here strictly for the Salmon BLT which is AMAZING!!!! When my hubby & I are in Columbia, we stop by and split the sandwich and fries between the two of us. Keep in mind we are pretty petite and we are only looking to satisfy our hunger, not be completely full or stuffed. If your looking to be full/stuffed, feel free to order one Salmon BLT per person. The people are nice & friendly, the service is fast and attentive. What more could you ask for?

The first time I tried this place out, we ordered the gyro sandwich, the fries were fresh and delicious. As was the gyro sandwich, even though I was full I ate it all! I would give it 5 stars but because the first time I had split the bill with my friend, they charged me for the whole bill and my friend for half. I spoke with the manager a couple times, but he didn't look up the receipt on file or called me back when he said he would. So I had to physically go back to the restaurant for a cash refund without any apologies. I gave them another chance because their gyros are off the charts, their tzatziki sauce is A-mazing and super delicious. I've been going there almost every month to fulfill my craving. Since then, I haven't had any issues with being charged the wrong amount for the meal. So you have me as a frequent customer :) I've brought many friends and family to this place, the ones who try the gyro are hooked on it. The pita bread is fresh/soft but I feel the appetizers may be too oily for my taste. Another time my friend asked for noodles and they gave her rice, they fixed it right away but errors happen, we are only human. But, I will definitely recommend the gyro sandwich to satisfy that craving of yours!!

I have been here several times, and the food is consistently good. The burgers are juicy with eclectic toppings. The salads are crisp & fresh. Their choices of entrees are diverse and delicious. The Greek dishes are soooo good. The service is fair. I also love that it is family owned and run, and that the owner runs a good kitchen. As well, each time I've been there I have seen or experienced the chef/owner greeting diners to see how things are. I highly recommend this place.

Huge servings!! All the entrees we ordered were good (Grecian combo, lamb shank special, chicken piccata, spanikopita). The calamari app was just ok. I wouldn't suggest it though.

Saw the other reviews on Yelp and decided to give this place a try. Bad decision. There were more servers than tables. Our (went with my kids & husband) server was extremely rude. She didn't introduce herself or tell us the specials. The prices are super high for what you actually get. The online dinner menu is not the dinner menu provided in the restaurant. When we questioned the server about it, she gave us a lot of attitude, as if we were asking the wrong questions. Not giving this place another try.

Quaint little restaurant. Greek and Italian flair. Really great food. The pesto and mozzarella bread was fantastic. Good service.

Great Greek stuff, very friendly staff, big glasses of wine (always a plus!), and very casual. Great neighborhood place even with kids. In addition to the Greek specialties, the salmon is good (my kids love it) and so is the Chicken Santorini (Greek name, I know, but not as traditional). Other stuff on the menu can be hit-or-miss, but honestly there's enough that is really good that I don't often stray from it to try the rest. Definitely one of our go-to local places.

    (5)
  • Gustavo V.

Very rude manager and disorganized. They seemed more interested in fitting as many hungry people as they could without concern of the existing diners. The food was decent unfortunately the ambient created by the head staff took away from the enjoyment.

My husband and I decided to try this place after looking at yelp. We went after the lunch rush, so it was not very busy. The menu had a wide variety of selections, and we tried the greek dip appetizer with hummus and tzatziki with pita, and we enjoyed it. The tzatziki had a lit of garlic, but we like that. I also had a cup of Chicken Orzo soup and it was delicious with hints of lemon, a generous amount of pasta, and chunky veggies. The Calamari salad was delightful. It had fried calamari, a spicy aioli, feta, and a sun-dried tomato vinaigrette. It was a great flavor combo, and I really enjoyed it, however I thought for the amount of salad the price was high. My husband had a pepperoni grilled cheese with mozzarella, provolone, and pepperoni. The Sandwich had a LOT of cheese, too much. It overpowered the whole sandwich. Over all our service was good, and I enjoyed my meal, and my husbands was OK, but the prices were high for what we got.

I give the Hickory Ridge Grill a 4 because it is a gem of a neighborhood grill. I'm not a regular here, but I've gone for lunch a few times and everything I have had was fresh and flavorful. They have a full menu, heavy on the Mediterranean influence with a good mix of traditional American fare. Portion sizes are large and the service is very fast. It's a great lunch spot--always full but always fast. They are doing something right.

My husband and I tried this out on a date night in early January 2013. The food is so good that we have taken the family back several times. The only drawback is that it gets pricey, especially for a family of 6. While this place has a Greek influence, and the Greek food was good, where they really shine is in their burgers. Not only are they creative in their toppings, they are by far the best burgers I have ever had. Their Gyros is also amazing. I would suggest checking their website as I did notice that the menu they give is the dinner one and alot of the subs (like gyro) isn't on it. And make sure you read the specials when you walk in.

    (5)
  • Donna S.

They're good, Everything. Apple wood smoked pork? I love when my mom gets it cause I try to say I'm helping her with her calories, and eat most of it. Their burgers are amazing. Perfect. Moist, never dry, full of flavor! Just try everything, it's a little pricey, but well worth it, the serving sizes are even huge.

It's hard for me to rate this place for two reason. 1) I was here only for brunch, and 2) it was pretty far out of the way for my wife and I. In our quest to find the best brunch in the Columbia area we traveled across the area to get here after church. At first I was not impressed. Our server seemed at best ambivalent. In addition, the brunch menu is very limited. It had your basic egg dishes, omelets, a French toast, and a pancakes selection. In all, it really wasn't impressive. The food itself was very good. My wife and I both got 4-egg omelets. Mine had bacon, onion, and cheddar cheese. The ingredients were good, but somehow the cook made the eggs taste remarkably good. It is hard for many people to get omelet eggs done fully without drying them out. This cook did, and still got them to taste good. My wife had spinach, feta and gyro meat in her omelet. It was excellent without an overpowering taste of feta. They also started with raw spinach with made for a fresher taste. In addition, the home fries were pretty good. (For most people they were probably very good, but I usually only like the ones I make myself.) The only problem with the food is that it was way too much. I always feel compelled to eat everything on my plate, but don't like feeling disgustingly full after dinner. Here I did. Four eggs in an omelet is, in my opinion, too much. It almost seemed as if they were trying to make up for poor taste with sheer volume. The was no need for that as the food was good. My one other complaint has to do with the staff again. When we got there the restaurant was empty. About five minutes after we got there, another family with a baby came in, and were seated right next to us. Suffice it to say, for anyone to get out to use the restroom they had to climb over one kid or the other. That's just a wait staff being oblivious. I can only review from my own context. For us, this restaurant is more of a neighborhood place. As we do not live in the neighborhood, for us it is very out of the way. Three stars, maybe our if we lived closer.

The gyro platter was great .... The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I have only eaten there once ... I will be back !!!!! Cute waitresses also :) the side salad was really fresh

I frequent this grill quite often, because we live close by, and it has a little bit of everything for anyone I happen to be with. I usually order the Stockyard Sandwich (which goes in and out of the menu quite frequently, but it's always available), but sometimes I try out other things like the burgers. They are decent, and the portions are large, with sea-salted fries (pretty much a hit or mess- sometimes delicious, sometimes a complete mess- get it?). The waitresses are nice, and the owner (manager?) seems quite friendly as well, always walking around and talking to regulars in his colorful and varying pajama pants. As a loyal customer, I wouldn't suggest the pasta dishes, and suggest you stick to the grill, sandwiches, burgers, and the daily specials.

Heard amazing things about this restaurant but haven't had the chance to stop by until this evening. Came in late (after 8- they close at nine) with a friend for dinner. Waiter was super helpful and sweet - I actually feel terrible I didn't catch his name. We had the hummus and tzatziki with warm pita to start with, which was delicious. We actually discussed which friends we could bring to appreciate it. Ordered the spinach pie and diabolo pasta both very different and both delicious in their own right. For those that like spicy I highly recommend the pasta. I also ordered food to go - triple skewers for my guy and crab pasta for a friend. Both were devoured before I could try, so I assume they were more than up to standard! Truly appreciated the amazing service (especially given they were closing up) and the food was incredible. Hubby and I will truly be regulars.

First timer here at Hickory Ridge Grill. Ordered the "Mozzy" (vegetable sandwich on ciabatta bread) and my friend ordered the Spicy Chicken Pasta. Both entrees were quite tasty and filling. The atmosphere was small but cozy, located in a shopping center with little to no signage. It actually seemed like more of a "locals" place and was filled with elderly couples and families. It makes my dinner that more enjoyable when I find these quaint small places that are still in business. Will definitely be back in, but maybe I'll try lunch next time!

Been here a couple of times and it's always been GREAT food!! I've had the greek platter, jumbo stuffed shrimp special and chick diablo with fettuccine. All three were delicious! It does take a little time for it to come out but it's definitely worth it!!

Stopped in for Brunch on a Sunday. Well, it was just a breakfast menu. The food was ok. Nothing special. But it was only breakfast food and I'm not usually a big breakfast fan. I may try again for dinner because of the other reviews on here. If I get better food, I'll update my review. However, if I was basing my decision to return solely on my last experience, I wouldn't be going back.

My husband and I stopped here for a late lunch, and it was amazing. From the service to the food we were impressed. The owner took time to explain the menu and provided his recommendation. Once we ordered our food, I believe we waited about 10-15 mins for it to come to our table, and We were not disappointed. I got the salmon BLT and my husband got the beef and lamb gyro. The food was so fresh and flavorful. I would recommend this place to anyone:)

I came here for lunch by myself and the service was slow. It took about 10 minutes for someone to come by. And the server was not attentive maybe because she was busy. This place gets busy during lunch hours. I ordered the chicken soulvayaki pardon my spelling and I liked it although the chicken was salty and dry :( there was a table next to me and one lady did not like her dish. I saw her waiting for the server the whole time until the rest of her family was already done with their dishes. Anyways my glass was empty and no refill was given till maybe the end of my meal..I was crunching ice. I had the burger for carry out before and maybe I'll just do carry out next time.

I don't know how George (the owner) does it, but every item on this menu has a special something that really sets it apart. For my wife Tiffany L. and I, HRG is a staple. Make sure you say hello to George if he's around - easy to recognize, he's the bald guy wearing MC Hammer parachute pants. Some of our favorites: 1) The Full Mozzy - I'm the sort of person who doesn't count it as a meal if it doesn't include some kind of meat. Well, this is the exception. It's a simple sandwich, but it's absolutely delicious. 2) The Julius Chicken - My mouth is watering just thinking about it. A tangy sauce, on chicken with bacon is just an amazing 3) Firecracker Pasta - Careful, this packs a punch. But it's darn good. Make sure yo have plenty of water. 4) El Diablo Chicken - This is firecracker pasta with chicken added. Full blackened chicken breasts. HRG can be a little expensive, but the portions are good and the food is excellent. By the way, the best deal - by far - is the brunch. It's only available on Sundays, but the four egg omelet is massive, and we haven't found a brunch entree we didn't like.

Awesome food!!! Burgers, gyros, and brunch are amazing! They have a great/wide selection of foods outside of Greek cuisine as well. Brunch is fabulous too - highly recommend going!

Yum yum yum! Best gyro I've ever had! Cute place and nice atmosphere. My only complaint is the people aren't very nice or friendly..which is fine, but a smile every now and then wouldn't hurt!

If you're looking for good Greek in the area, there is no better place. People rave about Samos in Baltimore, but those guys have never been here. Best Greek in HoCo, possibly MD.

I have labeled my experience and the owner of this restaurant a Service Champion. Click on the link for a full review I did via my website. Would definitely return. I've only had breakfast and most of the reviews I've read on here speak about lunch/dinner options, so I MUST RETURN to verify the hype. all4serviceonline.com/hi…

We've back here a few times to the Hickory Ridge Grill, and have really started to enjoy it, so I'm adding a star. The gyro (which they have on the menu as "yee-ro," so you know how to pronounce it correctly) is fantastic. I also recommend the souvlaki, and the homemade tzatziki is out of this world. Even my Greek mother and aunt approve! I think being selective with the menu really pays off -- stick with the Greek stuff and you'll enjoy yourself.

I was not all that impressed with the food. I ordered the pasta carbonara, which was served as fettucine alfredo with bacon on top. This is not even remotely close to carbonara. My friend had the beef stew. It was in a tomato based sauce, which is a little odd to me, and served over a bed of rice. It reminded me more of a middle eastern dish than beef stew and may have been better advertised as such. It also had an interesting background flavor, maybe nutmeg (?), that I did like. It would have been better with a more appropriate and fresher rice. Overall, I thought the prices were high for the level of food served, probably about 25% higher than they should have been. The wine was also overpriced. The positives for the place are great service, friendly staff, clean place, and nice atmosphere.

I struggled to give this place there stars, I think it's more of a two star place, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt since I've only been there once. Maybe they were having an off day, but I went at lunch, and it was busy but not packed. I ordered a Reuben and that came with fries. The fries were stale, in spite of the fact the place was kind of busy. Also, the corned beef on the Reuben was tough and dry. Altogether disappointing. If a place can't execute a simple Reuben and fries, it casts doubt on their overall performance. The service was fine, and the rye bread was decent, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

Hickory Ridge is a little hidden gem that is tucked away next to the Giant grocery store. It has little signage, besides an open sign and it's name on the windows, but what it does have is delicious Greek food packed full of flavor and cooked to order. We went in on Sunday for brunch and place wasn't packed, but it was busy. Had a party of four, with two children, no wait and was greeted by the owner as soon as we sat down. The menu was nicely done with all the basic breakfast and brunch items, nothing to fancy and nothing to low brow. I decided to indulge on a four egg omelet with Gyro meat, Feta and Spinach. Wow...what a combo, the omelet was cooked to perfection and it came with fresh home fries and toast. I'm a big guy and a big eater, but thus omelet did me in. The problem was it was so damn good I couldn't stop eating it, in fact I cleaned my plate and ordered some of the freshly made Baklava as my dessert. The Baklava itself could've been a meal it was so fresh and flaky sweet. It had just enough nuts and honey. I recommend this place to anyone weather your a weekend warrior or a full-time foodie. Bon appetite!

Our family ate here last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had shrimp piccata which was great. Other family members ordered the Greek combo plate, fettucine alfredo (with added chicken), and Joe's Greek steak (?). It's hard to please everyone, but we were all very happy with our choices. The only quibble I had was the fact that we had probably 3 or 4 different staff checking on us to make sure that everything was ok. Sounds impressive, but would have been more efficient I think to have just one person focusing on us. I asked for a glass of water 3 times and never got it. I should also mention that, if you're looking for a private and intimate conversation, this isn't the place to go. Table seating is crowded and congested. Not something that we minded though. We will all definitely go back soon.

I went out to eat here with my family last night and it was fabulous. They have a little bit of everything on the menu, so no matter what you like, you'll be able to find something. We started with an order of the fried calamari. I get fried calamari everywhere I go, so I would call myself a calamari conniseure and this was definitely one of the best calamaris I've ever eaten. The plate was made up entirely of rings, no tentacles, which makes me happy. The breading really stuck to the calamari and had a great spice to it. The calamari was tender and perfectly cooked. And the sauces to dip it in - to die for. The marinara was a bit spicy, but the cream sauce - kind of a spicy mayo - it was absolutely delicious. For dinner, my mom got the Myokonos Salad which she enjoyed. It looked a little plain to my tastes, but she liked it. My dad got the triple kabob which was a huge portion of meat and rice. It looked delicious and my dad really enjoyed it. My brother got a pasta dish which I can't remember the name of. It was a big dish of spicy pasta sauce, sausage, and penne. My brother loved it. He was the first one at the table finished. I ordered the yeeroe platter and it was perfect! Tender pieces of lamb and beef, the best tzitaki I've ever had, soft warm pita bread, feta cheese and tomatoes. It came with an order of shoestring french fries (great dipped in the tzatiki) and a greek salad which was phenomenal. It was a huge portion and absolutely delicious. I have leftovers for lunch today and I'm already salivating just thinking about it. For dessert my brother ordered a red velvet cake which was tasty and large. I ordered baklava which was absolutely heavenly. Warm and cinnaminny. My mom and I agreed that it tasted like Christmas. The phyllo dough was flaky and airy. There was absolutely nothing that could have made the food better in my opinion. The restaurant itself is nothing to write home about. Like other reviewers said, it is small and I would imagine it could get loud on a busy night - we were there at 6pm on a Tuesday and we one of the only tables. The server was good, friendly and she stayed on top of our drinks. I really recommend that you give this place a try. It may not look like much, but the food truly is delicious.

You will NEVER go wrong ordering the gyro (sandwich or platter)!! So yummy! And, the prices are very reasonable. My only complaint is the service. Most of the servers are great, but there is one woman in particular who seems so angry each and every time we dine here. Not enough to keep us from coming back but a little annoying still.

Based on the outside appearance and name, I was not really looking forward to my friend taking me here, that one fateful day a few years ago. We ordered the Mediterranean dips as an appetizer. Woah! The pita wedges I believe are made in house, they always come out hot from the oven and are nice and fluffy. I've never had hummus like what they serve here. It has more of the consistency of yogurt, but the flavor is amazing. Due do the proximity of my house to this place, it has become my de facto comfort food location. I think of this place as a notch above a diner, with similar fare to mid-range chain restaurants, but has some Greek/Italian menu items and is privately owned. On most days you'll see the owner and/or his wife helping out, which is nice to see. The service goes from decent to great, haven't really had a bad service experience in the dozen of dozens times I've been here. The Sunday brunch is great! The omelets are huge and you can get gyro meat in them! I usually get gyro, feta, and onion. Some favorite's of my friends and mine: *Baldie Burger (marinara, fresh mozzarela slice, pepperoni) *Firecracker Pork Penne (Pulled pork that is a little crispy with a hot pepper pesto sauce and sour cream) *Carbonara (lots of cream and bacon!) *Yee-row Platter (that's how they spell it! big portions) *Full Mozzy (Vegetarian Sandwich) *Steak Sandwich (usually a lunch special on Friday, huge steak on ciabatta!) *Omelets

I just moved to Columbia two months ago, and came here within a week of moving. It has to be one of my top favorite restaurants in Columbia if not my favorite. I had Dolmadakias (grape leaves) as an appetizer, and they were delicious. I had the pastichio (greek Lasagna), and will definitely be getting that again!

Though Greek in influence, there's something for everyone on the menu of this fantastic little restaurant. The food is consistently well-prepared and seasoned, the staff is delightful and efficient, and the owner makes it his job to welcome everyone as a friend. The tzatziki and hummus are out of this world and the Gyros are first rate. On Fridays, he often has an amazing lamb shank that is worth seeking out!

Just okay. Atmosphere is cramped, but kid friendly. Staff is great with kids, but otherwise not attentive. Food is mediocre. Burgers are thin and gritty. Pasta hard and drowning in sauce. Under welled.

  • Robert M.

Here are my 2 stars. The restaurant is ok, simple, not expensive and not fancy (all good things). The food seems to be ok although I only had breakfast the 2 times I was there. My concern however was the staff. I don't appreciate the waitress attitude when taking your order. I am not overly sensitive and I understand that occasionally the servers can be overwhelmed, however I don't think that it's acceptable when you waitress doesn't come back to your table once since you get your food. There was no refill, there was not check, nothing. After you seat there for 40 minutes and finish your coffee you have to go to the bar to ask for a check. So, if you want to avoid bad service and mediocre food, avoid Hickory Ridge Grill.

Thanks, Yelp! I am not all familiar with Columbia, but had to pick someone up from Columbia and take them to BWI. I searched for restaurants in Columbia, and Hickory Ridge Grill turned up to be right in the neighborhood. So, we stopped here for dinner on a Sunday night. It's definitely a neighborhood restaurant. The atmosphere is lacking, but the food was good. My friend had the Chinese Chicken Salad, which was huge and which she loved. I had the yeero (gyro) platter, which was enormous and also tasty. The key lime pie we had for dessert was nothing special, but this is a solid place for a good dinner. Howard County General Hospital is just down the street, so if you happen to be visiting someone there, this is a great place for a meal afterwards.

I was looking to find a restaurant to eat at before going to a concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion, and because it was a Sat night I wanted to stay away from the mall. My Yelp search found me Hickory Ridge Grill and I was excited about the good reviews. We paused for a few seconds when we saw it.... strip center in Columbia, odd layout, but there seemed to be happy diners... What a pleasant and refreshing dining experience, friendly hostess, solid service and great food. My wife had the chicken picata and I had a chicken dish with sun-dried tomatoes, feta and white wine served with rice. Both of our dishes were A+. They have an overly extensive menu, with burgers, sandwiches and salads, as well as greek specialties, pasta,"from the pan" and entrees. They also have a full bar, with bottled beers and a small wine selection. Short of five stars for the average layout and being seated at the back back corner table, and no bread/pita served with dinner. I will definitely come back before another show and I consider this place a find!

Columbia, MD is known for having amazing dining and in my opinion, this restaurant tops them all. My husband and I frequent here and when we eventually move, it may be the thing we miss most about Maryland. There menu is nothing if not diverse, but it boasts my favorite sandwich of all time- The Full Mozzy. Thick sliced mozzarella cheese, baby spinach leaves, sun dried tomatoes, pesto and possibly some crack. I am a full on meat eater, but this blows meat containing sandwiches out of the water. That being said, I have NEVER had a bad dish here. Everything is incredible and George, who owns the places is always there and greets every customer (and all of us regulars by name). Friendly atmosphere, reasonable prices, and great food make this place my top pick in Maryland to date.

A decent location in the Hickory Ridge village of Columbia. The restaurant has a simple menu: a few burgers, a few Greek-inspired items, a few pasta items. All in all your basic run of the mill restaurant. My hot roast beef sandwich was ample, but a bit bland. Wings were decent, then again can't really go wrong with wings. Service was ok.

Do not eat here unless you like salty, quasi-greek food. I ordered the greek chicken and my date had spanikopita. Everything was so dry and salty- not authentic at all. Big disappointment.

Holy mackerel! This is hands down the worst place I've eaten in five years. Let us go through our order: - Greek Bread - described as "French bread toasted and smeared w/ a feta-garlic spread." It *literally* is turkey gravy with little globs of feta and garlic. Unpleasant. - Chicken Piccata - described as "Tender veal or chicken or shrimp sautéed w/ garlic, white wine, capers in a lemon-butter sauce w/ pasta." Maybe the veal would have been tender but the chicken was so over cooked you needed a serrated blade to get through it. Unpleasant. - Spanakotiropita - Described as "Delicate, fresh spinach, feta cheese and herbs, baked in a phyllo dough. Served w/ rice." I don't know if this was microwaved or not but it came out so scaldingly hot that you couldn't touch it for the first fifteen minutes. Once you got at it the phyllo dough was a gooey glob on the underside. It seemed as if the whole thing was simply filled with creamed spinach. Unpleasant. (note: they "comped" us the Spanakotiropita when the meal was over saying "if you're not happy with it then the chef is not happy with it.") - Fire Cracker Pork Penne - Described as "Penne pasta tossed w/ tender ginger-braised pork, in a firecracker-hot habanero sauce and sour cream: give it a stir to mingle heat & flavors." While I'm not sure if the pork was "ginger-braised" or not, I can tell you it wasn't "tender." Fortunately, the habanero sauce came on the side (it was potent), but the sour creme looked like it came out of a glue gun. Unpleasant. - Gyro Gliders (I can't find this on their online menu so I can't give you the official description). This is probably the one order that had a chance tosucceed...except the buns were so completely charred the only way to save the things was to remove the bread altogether. Bummer. - Feta Appetizer - Described as "Imported Greek feta, olives, extra virgin olive oil, oregano and served w/ pita wedges." This order was actually a success! The primary reason is probably that **it involved no cooking whatsoever**!!!!!! To describe this place as good for kids is kind of a stretch - the kids menu is ho-hum, they had crayons but were offering plain paper placemats to draw on. To say that the wait staff were surly would be an understatement - it seemed they were angry actually to have customers bothering them. To cap it all off, this collection of food came to $72 (before they comped the Spanakotiropita). Was there a silver lining to this gray cloud meal? You bet! Afterward we went to "the meadows" frozen custard and had some very tasty dessert. I recommend that place without hesitation...but you'll find that review over on their page in a couple minutes. Save your money...don't eat here...we sure won't again!

My family and I always go here when we don't feel like cooking. It's a great local joint - the owner seems to know EVERYBODY and is very friendly. The wait staff is very efficient, but I would like to add that they could smile. Not a criticism, just a suggestion. The food is always tasty and fresh. I usually just get pasta and my boyfriend loves the burgers. My parents always go for the Greek food on the menu which they love. It's great for carry-out and prices are reasonable.

My first impression walking in was the tables were close together and it was loud. From then on, all was great. I had done a random Internet search for Columbia, MD and carbonara, and saw a good review for Hickory Ridge Grill. As soon as I sat down I saw the chef ask the next table if they enjoyed their dish; the woman had quite a lot left over. She said she enjoyed it, and the chef added if she didn't like it, he was happy to go back to the kitchen and make another dish for her. She explained she didn't eat a lot but was planning to take her leftovers home. Suffice to say I liked the place from that moment. The fact that my pasta carbonara was loaded with bacon and my date's crab pasta was delicious just confirmed my opinion.

Solid 3.5 stars. I have been here three times now and the food that I have had has been solid. I got the "Aristotle" twice and the "Greek Hero" once. This is my new "usual" spot that I will be frequenting now since it is one of the very few places that I have eaten at since moving to Maryland that I have enjoyed. Good food, good service, good place to eat for lunch!

It is located in an outdoor shopping center next to a Giant. The decor is fair with a small-medium dining room. Our server, except for a long wait to come around and take our order, was efficient but rather emotionless. We liked how the owner came around to check on us; this is always a nice touch. (With many places, the owner is probably sitting behind a desk doing payroll or at home in front of a big screen TV while teenagers run the place.) Some of the food is reasonably priced - especially with the portion sizes. A few things seemed on the high side. Having gone on a Sunday around 1:00, there was a terrific selection of both breakfast and lunch items. I had a generously large omelette*** filled with my choice of three items. I chose cheddar, tomato, and onion, and while good, it was kind of bland. I had asked for french fries instead of breakfast potatoes, but I was given the potatoes***, which were good comfort food, but nothing to get excited about. The toast was grainy higher quality bread and was served with butter and jelly packets. My daughter had a huge slice of banana French toast**** - more a hunk of bread than a slice of toast. My son's spaghetti*** was typical fare. My wife's spanakopita**** dish was again generously portioned and something she'd order again. We ordered two desserts, about 8 of which were told to us verbally - a dessert menu would have been more helpful. Good red velvet cake*** was sliced for sharing. The other was called a Brownie Bomb**, which disappointed. It seemed only to be Cool Whip and smashed up Duncan Hines chocolate cake mixed together in a goblet. At $6 and $7 dollars, we probably wouldn't opt for dessert again. We'll probably be back to check out more of the menu.

Excellent food - great menu, something for everyone. We stick to the Greek food, but the burgers and pastas are very good too. It is a great neighborhood place. This *would* be a 5 star place, except for the service...while they are quick to place your order and serve you, manners are easily forgotten by some of the long-time serving/busing staff. They seem to take timeliness/efficiency to heart, and while this is normally a good thing, they take it to the extreme - and this can making the dining experience unpleasant sometimes. For example, after ordering our dinners, we were asked/told "Is that it?" immediately after the last syllable of an entree was uttered. Immediately after one person's plate is emptied, your plate will be snatched, more often than not, while you are in the middle of chewing your last bite of food! I swear the bussers are like hawks trying to grab plates *immediately* and *as soon as humanly possible*. Try reading the Times' guide to proper restaurant service and learn to wait for an entire party to finish their meal before *asking* if it is okay to take their plates when their mouths aren't full. It is not a race, and you are not running low on plates in the kitchen.

This is one of the worst restaurants I have ever had the misfortune of visiting. My Philly cheesesteak was dropped off by the server. The server did not say "enjoy your meal", nor did the server ask if we need any other items such as extra napkins, hot sauce or anything; she just silently dropped off our food never to return again to the table until the check was dropped and our plates were already taken away. Therefore, we did not even have the opportunity to say how awful the food was. My Philly cheesesteak was pouring grease out of it, the lettuce was brown even though there is a Giant grocery store in the same parking lot with fresh lettuce. On top of all that, it had an overall burnt taste. Needless to say I did not finish my sandwich and I only ate about half of it. In order to cleanse my palate of that putrid taste, I dove into the french fries that accompanied the sandwich. The actual edible fries, the ones that were not too hard to bite into, were cold and flavorless. I can see why this restaurant has so many good reviews because there is a retirement community directly across the street and when I looked around the restaurant 85% of the customers were 70 years old and above. I hated the first time I dined here, but I thought I would give it another chance. Now I will never eat here again and will sway anybody from eating here as well.

Let me begin by saying- in the age of Yelp and similar review outlets, a restaurant should make it a habit to treat each customer as a potential restaurant critic, because they are. This restaurant actually had a Yelp sticker on the door- quite ironic. We heard they had good Gyros and arrived at 11:03 to find a 'closed' sign on the door. We tried the door since we saw employees inside and found it open. We asked one of the 4 people standing there if they were open and they told us not yet (huh?- the sign says you open at 11) but they'd seat us anyways and handed us menus. All five of us preceeded to check our cellphones and verify it was indeed after 11:00- 11:06 to be exact. For the next 10 minutes, we watched the 4 employees stand across the room and stare at us. No one came over to ask us for drinks. I finally got up and asked if there was a reason no one had visited our table since it was well after 11:00. Finally a man came over and took our drink order. Why that had to happen- not sure. Most of us ordered the Gyro and one person had the chicken souvlaki sandwhich. All very good. Maybe a little pricey at $10. Gave this place 3 stars for the food. But I won't drive back to that side of town because of the service. It wasn't that tasty. They have an open kitchen and I saw one guy who might have been the owner. If he was, shame on him because he saw how we were treated and never intervened. Part of owning a restaurant is the service you provide, if it's bad- you will loose customers no matter how good the food is. The employees are a reflection of the owners.

I just had lunch here this afternoon and thought it was great. My first impression of the place was that it was your typical local restaurant with nothing to interesting about the decor. I was soon to learn that the impressive part of this restaurant was the food! (which is how it should be!) the menu was pretty extensive with lots of choices. I had a mushroom Swiss burger with sautéed onions - it was cooked perfectly. Two other people in my group had sandwhiches as well: a BLT and a Chicken sandwhich. They both thought they were great and would recommend them. One person in my party had a steak and didn't care for it, but this is not the kind of place I'd order a steak - I'd save that for an actual steak house. The server was friendly and helpful and it seems like everyone works there as a team as other workers helped clean our table and keep our drinks full. Make sure you stop by if you're in the neighborhood as this place is a great find!

I work right down the street so Hickory Grill is one of those places we go at least once a week. I always order the same thing. Fire Cracker Pork. I love it!!!! Location: In Hickory Ridge shopping center. Plently of parking. Atmospere: Clean, small, nothing fantastic but don't get me wrong, its not a dump or a hole in the wall type of place. It has one of thoes open kitchens which is nice and a small bar. Food: Even though I order the same thing, everyone else I eat with never complain about their food. The menu is very diverse. Its supposed to be a greek restaurant, but it doesn't seem like it at all. They have the typical humus and gyros but also serve club sandwhiches and pastas too. Service: This might seem a bit ignorant, but half the staff don't understand english. Every time i go there i have problems communicating one thing or another with the wait staff... who knows, maybe its me.... The chef on the other hand is great. Although i've never experienced it myself, i've seen him come out and make sure guests are enjoying their meal: this is during rush periods. Shows that he is in control of his kitchen and cares for the quality of his dishes along with making sure his patrons are happy. Price: A little pricey...just a tad. I wouldn't come here on a date nor would i come here if i was looking for a new-cool-or even lavish experience. But definetely for a good meal that hits the spot. Fire cracker pork is one of those dishes i dream about ... try it.

Best spaghetti with marinara sauce I have ever had. Staff is friendly and I love the owner's baggy pants uniform. Prices for some of the items on the menu seem a bit high for a casual dining restaurant in a village center, but Hickory Ridge seems to be a very affluent area and supports it.

Very good offerings of Mediterranean comfort foods. A lot of good Greek dishes. The combination plates offer good variety and serious portions. It is one place where everyone can find something to their tastes, including vegetarians. The decor is okay but the food and service are very good. Always ask for the specials you won't be disappointed.

Good stuff. I've pretty much stuck to the Greek food or the pasta dishes here, but I've never had anything I didn't like. I get the yeeroe platter pretty often. The tzaziki sauce is really amazing, and the fries are good too. The service is always good, probably because the owner is always nearby making sure everything is right. Overall, a nice little neighborhood joint.

This location has seen more turnover than a Ravens 4th quarter but I am happy to say the new occupant is a real keeper. The menu is standard American fare with Greek specialties. After the atrocious Greek food at the last restaurant to occupy this space, there was no way we were going to order a full blown Greek meal. I ordered a gyro and my husband got the pasta carbonara. The past was great, not heavy or greasy but with tons of flavor and a boatload of bacon. My gyro was tasty but the real star on the plate was the amazing tzatziki sauce. Thick and creamy with a real garlic kick, it was by far the best I have ever had. It alone would convinced me we have to come back and try the rest of the Greek menu but then the chef/owner George Papas came out to our table and told us his philosophy of great ingredients (real Greek yogurt and feta cheese) and commitment to flavor. I can't wait to go back and explore the rest of the menu.
