The fresh bread makes this place. Free samples were all really good - will have to make this a regular spot along with Bon Fresco which is my current go-to sandwich place in columbia.

My review is solely based on the Old Fashioned White Bread. It just tasted like fresh baked fancy supermarket bread. The bread was too sweet and it had a sort of funny taste also. It blows my mind that someone would want to improve a monstrosity and charge $5.50 for it. I will try something else next time.

Holy Bat Crap Bat Man!!! This place makes the BEST sandwiches ever. The bread is made fresh in the store; oh and it is good. All of the ingredients taste fresh and delicious. The bread (they do sell it by the loaf) is amazing. Get off your butt and go there.

Yah yah big giant sample slices and amazing healthy bread. Could be a little more organized with an actual line at the counter instead of a clawing mob but I guess the bread is just that good.

This place is amazing!!! The swirl bread that they make on Saturday morning is beyond words. If you have a chance to stop by during lunch hour, the pepperoni rolls will fill you up without weighing you down.

This place is an amazing find for bread and sweets. The service was the best I've ever had. I felt like I was at a friend's house and their mom wouldn't stop feeding me! They were very generous with their samples. The challah bread was delicious and the scones were to die for. Yum!!!

Freshly baked/healthy bread, unlimited samples (you can try all breads before you buy), great service....I'm sold. Try the Howard County Bread its amazing (and my favorite). They also make delicious sandwiches for lunch.

I went to Great Harvest Bread Company, MD on Easter. They were VERY unprepared for the long line. I went there to buy lunch for my staff (6 sandwiches and 3 loaves of bread), and i am always greeted with nice and friendly people as i walk in, but not today. They didn't care, they just wanted to get through the line. My checkout guy (only male i saw working) was very arrogant and made me feel unwanted at the shop, when i spend over $75 on my final bill. I was not greeted nor given one smile. I just felt like i was a huge bother! I love great harvest, so this was a major disappointment for me. People should not treat children differently, especially children that spend over $75 and will tell their parents about their horrible experience! I also heard a women yell "Who ever is next in line needs to step up NOW" with a very pushy tone in her voice. Great Harvest was also out of everything! I went around noon, thinking they would still be stocked, but i couldn't get sprouts on my sandwich, nor ham, nor focaccia bread, nor whole grain bread nor cookies...They just kept listing everything they had run out of. The man told me that they ran out of cookies, so he replaced mine with a brownie and said "don't ever expect this again, its a one time DEAL". I felt like i was being yelled at, while i spent a freaking $75!!!! It was very disappointing. I am going to think before i go in to this shop again. While i usually have an amazing experience, this one bad experience, really turned me off... Thanks for the sandwich...

I love this place. I go there for a nice hot cup of soup or a cold sandwich. Always great food and always great staff. Its mostly a bakery so not good for groups but they have tons of free samples and are always accomodating. Not much that is gf though.

Challah!!!! Seriously, tho. The best challah I have ever had. A little pricey, but worth it. Has local food (local made honey). Scones are HUGE!

Have you ever seen the look on a guys face when they enter their first strip club. Or a little girl when she goes to Disney World for the first time and sees her favorite princess. Yes, this was me at Great Harvest. I walked in, my eyes widened, my pulse elevated, my stomach grumbled, and my son was almost dropped from my arms as I stood in awe. There is something about a sweet yeasty bread that makes my heart go 'pitter-patter' and all caution is thrown to the wind. Please note: FREE SAMPLES I told the girl behind the counter I had a groupon and wanted to get a variety to take home. She proceeded to hand me a sample of the cinnamon swirl bread that was still warm from the oven. Baby got a bite and then I got a bite. Baby got no more bites! Actually, he was sick and had not been eating well so, he got all the bread he wanted and oatmeal cookie samples they had. I brought home 2 loaves of cinnamon swirl bread, a carrot bread, a pumpkin chocolate chip loaf, an apple cinnamon crisp loaf and a bag of oatmeal raisin cookies. What was I thinking?! Good thing you can freeze their breads for up to 3 months and they last 7-10 days out on the counter if you keep the bags sealed well. Confession: I ate the entire loaf on cinnamon swirl bread the same day. My husband and toddler had a few bites and I killed the rest. It was incredible. Seriously, the best bread I've ever eaten. The best part is the ingredients are all natural and baked in house!! I haven't even finished what I bought and I'm dying to go back to try more. 'Me Want Bread" said in my best cookie monster voice!

This would be five stars easily, if the prices were a bit lower. Monster Foccaccia: as advertised, well-stuffed and delicious. They don't use a lot of sauce, so I advise asking for extra. Swiss: excellent, but a bit small. Service: five stars, baby. Incredibly helpful, they let you try almost any bakery item and are quick with a recommendation. Decor: clean, neat place. There's a few outdoor tables with umbrellas close by.

I walked into this store and upon entering another customer who was leaving told me that this place gets her into trouble because it's so addicting! I should've turned around if I knew what was good for me... but of course I didn't and I already can tell you *in my terminator voice* I'LL BE BACK!!! I came here just for some fresh honey wheat bread. I left with a loaf of honey wheat bread, a black bean sandwich on white bread for lunch, and to appease my sweet tooth a cafe mocha cream cheese scone. Now everything was good, but wait now... let's discuss this scone! Now usually I associate scones with hard sweet treats you would have with coffee or tea. The reason I picked it up is because it looked like a soft puffy bread cookie sprinked with sugar... if that makes sense? Check the picture. This thing taste like coffee people... coffee lovers will rejoice. Also it was moist and sweet but not too sweet. I usually can't eat but a few bites of desserts because they are just too sweet. But this right here!!!! Ummmm there was just so much deliciousness... I wanted to eat the entire thing! I convinced myself that saving half of it will bring me joy on another day. It really is a perfect little treat, especially if you like coffee flavored treats. My sweet tooth is satisfied and I will return here again! Note: I really like how all the ingredients listed on their products are easy to understand. Also a good thing to note is that they have a loyalty card which rewards you with a free item on your 12th purchase!

I leave my house a bit early so that I could go a bit out of my way to get my morning coffee fix here. I realize the bread is the star, but the coffee is great. I can't resist the Giddy Up blend. The bread is everything. It starts coming out of the oven at 9 AM and there are always fresh samples on the cutting board to enjoy. Muffins, scones and other bakery treats are boxed, but if you see something you want, they will open a box so that you can buy just one. It's very easy to fill up on the generous samples - the chocolate brownie bread, the cinnamon bread, maple scone or one of the amazing loaves fresh from the oven - you can nibble on all of it. My favorite thing to order with my coffee is the "Kidwich" - butter and choice of jam on fresh challah or oatmeal bread. The only thing missing? Seating. There are a few tables outside, but I wish they had some seating inside. The friendly staff and the wonderful smell of bread are so inviting that I feel that I want to linger. Also, my Sundays would be infinitely improved if Great Harvest Bread Company was open if only for the morning.

I was introduced to this bakery when I started working nearby. What do I love? - The bread!! freshly made, It doesn't get any better. I enjoy their selections and enjoy the fact that they change their bread menu daily allowing for more options throughout the week -The free samples, who doesn't love them? The size of their samples is huge! no place is so generous with their free samples. By allowing us to try them, they know no one will leave empty handed What could they improve? -I tried their Brie soup, I felt like I was getting hypertension right away, the amount of salt in this soup is extreme. I have tried other soups equally as salty. Although the breads seem fresh and home-made, their soups seem processed. -Steep prices- I will pay as much as they want for the bread because of its high quality, but when it comes to the sandwiches and soups, they could lower these. -Need a sitting area to enjoy lunch

Expect to find slightly expensive, but wonderful sandwiches on incredibly fresh bread. Enjoy a sample while you wait - and maybe pick up a loaf for yourself. Great Harvest is primarily a bakery, however they also sell sandwiches and a bunch of nicknacks (like jam, cooking utensils, brownie mix). I've had the roast beef sandwich, the power house and the vegige burger. I enjoyed the power house, but was glad I was splitting it, otherwise the sandwiches have been amazing. As a note - and this is super frustrating - their hours just suck. They close relatively early, and aren't open on sundays. Also, you'll be getting your sandwiich to go - because I'm not even sure there is a place to eat indoors - and only couple outdoor tables. Otherwise - sandwiches are great, prices are steep but fair, and the staff is very friendly.

Tried this place out due to their positive reviews but was sadly disappointed. The place was packed which is usually a good sign, but it took forever for our sandwiches and then when we ate them, they were a huge disappointment. The bread was so dense and the sandwiches didn't have any "wow" factor or flavor. I'll be sticking to my fave sandwich place in columbia from now on.

Just an update for the sandwiches I've had here for the first time. Read my previous review for everything else! I just had 2 of their sandwiches; the power house and this other sandwich I don't remember the name but it has a bunch of turkey, some bacon, and guacamole?! Or avocado? I ordered on the phone and the girl gave me 2 options, I just chose the first one. :P "I would like the first one please". The BREAD. The BREAD?! The flavor and texture of the bread was so GOOD! I'm not sure what they put in the bread but I swear it had a very slight hint of alcohol in it. And it held all the toppings in place really well. The Power House is vegetarian but it made me energetic! It tasted great but felt like they put in a little too much onions which was fine because I took some out! After eating the sandwich, it felt as if my body was longing for it and once it got it, it's energy levels sky rocketed. Literally. I feel great and the sandwich was refreshing. The turkey sandwich I had was PHENOMENAL. Simple ingredients but perfect combination. Turkey, bacon, guacamole, the BREAD. And what I really like about the bread is, most places, their bread/meat ratio isn't balanced. It's usually mostly bread or the bread is too stiff for the toppings being used in it. But this place has the perfect balance of bread/toppings.

Just tried this place for the first time, at the recommendation of a friend. Was blown away! I had the Monster Focaccia Sandwich. Turkey, Ham, Cream cheese w/ Chives, lettuce, tomato, onions on the lavender rosemary bread. The sandwich was very thick. The bread was out of this world good. Prices are comparable to other delis in the area. Paid $7.75 for the sandwich. The service was great, I was greeted with smiles by a cashier who was very informative. She offered me a sample of the bread before I ordered to make sure I liked it. Will absolutely be eating here again!!

Awesome bakery! The baked goods are made from scratch and fresh. I've had the chocolate chip scones, blackberry scones, snickerdoodles, brownie bread and apple cake. Everything has been absolutely amazing. I believe the apple cake was a special for the holidays, but I think they should make it year round. Great sandwiches too. I had a club sandwich on cheddar garlic bread. The bread options vary daily so check their web site. You can sample while you're in the store. Everyone who works there is so friendly and they have free coffee every Friday morning. I'd really love to try their breakfast sandwiches sometime. This is also a great place to pick up a gift. They have mixes for sale, homemade dog treats, and other fun things. It's too bad you would never know this bakery was there, such a random hidden shopping center, but totally worth checking out!

This place is great! Fresh ingredients in everything you can just taste the freshness. You will not be able to choose just one and you will come back. I always get a loaf of their 9grain oat. I've also picked up their cheese loaf which is like challa, and cinnamon loaf. Each time you visit the store you can taste test all the flavors with butter. They also have a variety of jams, mustards and spreads to purchase. It's family owned and delicious!

This place is definitely by far one of the best bread based bakeries I've been to. The people are great and VERY helpful =), serving up sizable, unlimited free samples of their bread~!! plus jam to go with the awesome bread. The breads I was fortunate to try were all soft and baked perfectly, not too dense that it was a brick but enough "Q" and substance that it wasn't just "fluff". The bf goes here for breakfast (and his caffeine) since he works nearby all the time and vouches for the breakfast sandwich. We went for a quick dinner once and I love their sandwiches.. absolutely delish! Fresh ingredients to go with their freshly baked bread =) They change up their bread menu but do have a schedule readily available at the counter. I have not tried their sweets yet but I def in love with their savory breads =). There is a little bit of counter space to eat your sandwich at, but the place itself is more of a store than a sit-down cafe. Then again, the sandwich only took like 5-10 minutes to scarf down, it was so goood~!! and the counter we sat at was next to all these other delicious sounding goodies (jams, spreads, bread mixes, etc., not all made in store, but still sounded appetizing even on a full stomach). I probably would buy up the store if I stayed longer than 5 minutes =P. Just be weary about that.. ;) .. I would've love to get a whole loaf, but let's be honest, the bread probably won't make it home =P.

This place is everything it was raved about. The bread was simply delicious, I mean you can smell it all the way home and want to open the bag before you get there. I ordered the veggie and tuna sandwich to go, as well as a loaf of bread ($7). The total was $22, pretty on the pricey side for 2 sandwiches and a loaf of bread. The only reason I too didn't give them a 5 star was based on price. BUT I did find out after I took their flyer that you can get breads for $5.00 depending on what bread is on special that day of the week. Next time I will simply try the bread that is on special that day, save me $2.00. They have some other products like cookies and buns on sale at the front, but the bread and sandwiches are the highlights! A must visit again spot!

A little pricey, but definitely worth it! All of their breads are freshly made... puts supermarket bakeries to shame. You can taste the difference on the first bite. Everything I have ever purchased here - breads, cookies, sandwiches - have all been superb. Ask for a sample!

The good: The bread is amazing! Slices are dense and have a lot of flavor. Highly recommend the Honey Whole Wheat, Woodstock, and Cinnamon Swirl loaves. The okay/bad: Unsurprisingly, the bread is the star of the sandwich. The sandwiches are underwhelming for the price (REALLY small sometimes and the quality varies visit-to-visit). - The cranberry walnut chicken salad sandwich is my favorite, but sometimes the mayo:ingredients ratio is off (too much mayo, not enough stuff). If you ask for lettuce and tomato, sometimes they also add red onion... odd. - The blue cheese spread on the California turkey sandwich is pretty appalling... it completely overpowers an otherwise delicious sandwich and leaves you with a nasty aftertaste. Giving it 4 stars because the bread is THAT good!

I was looking for traditional yeast rolls for Thanksgiving and couldn't find them anywhere and was going to have to just give in and make them myself. However, someone suggested Great Harvest and it seemed like a worthy option. I had never been the shop or tasted their breads but placed an order for Thanksgiving which I picked up this morning. Everyone was sooo friendly, the order was ready as soon as I arrived and they even let me taste several of the breads I had ordered to make sure that I liked them. The best of all is the stuffing bread. I couldn't stop nibbling on the very large chunk of a sample they offered. It is quite dense as I've heard their breads tend to be. The flavor however is just like Thanksgiving stuffing in a loaf, so genius! The honey whole wheat was great as well and the old fashioned white rolls were just what I was looking for. They only bread I didn't particularly care for was the Challah, it wasn't as sweet as I was expecting but still had a wonderful light, fluffy texture and a great crust. I am an impulsive shopper in stores like this so restrained myself from browsing too much but it seems that they have a wide selection of gourmet condiments, oils and coffees which would be great for yourself or as gifts. The scones also looked very enticing. I don't even eat bread that often, but I'll be back to keep my some Great Harvest bread in my freezer for those moments.

Every thing here is awesome but I had to take away 1 star because they no longer have French vanilla creamer. I thought perhaps they were out just one day but 3 times there hasn't been any. Ok so I'll stop my complaints there. The bread, scones, muffins are FABULOUS!! With an extra FAB! Everything is baked fresh daily and they have free samples. Best way to start your morning. Oh and I don't care for pumpkin but everything they make with pumpkin I've loved!

Great Harvest Bread Company is one of the vendors at Airport Square Farmer's Market in Linthicum, MD (near BWI Airport) Great breads, jellies, jams, cookies, muffins and pastries. (The raspberry jam is really good on a cinnamon bagel, by the way.) Nice little selection at fair prices. They even have samples ready and waiting for you to nibble on. I always go for the pepperoni roll with sweet bell peppers. I might try the veggie roll soon.

I don't know why people are being stingy with their stars for this place. It's 5 stars all the way! From the customer service to the seemingly endless varieties of bread, Great Harvest really could not get any better for me and the bf. We make a point to go on different days of the week so we can sample all of the types of bread (don't go on a full stomach, because you will want to taste, and they give you full slices), and I have yet to try something I didn't like. Even the baked potato bread was amazing, and I was super skeptical about that one. So far the bf's favorite is the Popeye bread, and mine is the Howard County! All this, and I haven't even tried one of their sandwiches yet.

I purchased the Cali Cobb sandwich(Turkey, bacon, guacamole, blue cheese,L,T) on high 5 fiber bread, sourdough parmesan bread, and red velvet cake. Bread is baked daily. I arrived shortly before noon and the bread was still warm! Their products are made with quality ingredients. free samples are available to try before you buy. soups are also available and they have cookies, scones, pottery ware, dipping oils, dip mixes, etc

I can't believe more people don't know about this place! It must be a closely-guarded local secret because it's so good, they should be packed at all times. If you love bread (I love carbs in any form but can never resist a slice of freshly baked bread) -and by that I mean handmade, melt-in-your-mouth, gourmet flavored bread- then you will become obsessed with GHB like I am. My hips are crying the moment I pull into the parking lot. GHB has different bread every day but you can find out what they're baking by going on the website or grabbing a monthly menu in the store. My favorite thing about GHB is they let you sample what they've baked that day. And when I say sample, I don't mean a lil nibble of a sliver of bread. They cut you a HUGE slice of whatever you want, and even have butter, jams and dips to try on it. Are you hearing me? They'd probably rather let their customers eat the bread then throw it away, but I still love them for their generosity. And it makes me want to buy even more from them. GHB bakes several types each day but it's best to get there early for some of their more popular breads and baked goods like High Five Fiber, Cheddar Garlic, Cinnamon Chip, Vanilla Almond Swirl or Chocolate Brownie Bread. They have a full sandwich menu (including breakfast sandwiches) and soup of the day, as well as shelves stocked with local pottery and gourmet jams and jellies. Everything is delicious here. The cashiers are usually well-mannered students and the owners are pretty friendly. On top of all of that, they offer a buy 12 loaves get one free card. Amazing!

For most of my experience with this place, see Courtney's review. She nailed it. I came here with my brother in December 2011 just before we hit the road heading down to Germantown. We both ordered sandwiches- he got a vegetarian sandwich, and I went for a turkey concoction with avocado- a must for me as a native Californian. OMG, as if the sandwich weren't blazingly good enough, I sampled this ridiculously awesome vanilla crunch loaf of bread that was like a taste of heaven. I mean really. I have never tasted anything like that in a bread. It was just sweet enough, but not too much to be considered a dessert bread. Man, it was so good that you see it's nearly a year later and I'm still writing about it. Please stay in business Great Harvest; I plan on visiting next summer and will most definitely pick up a loaf for breakfast while I'm in town.

A pleasant surprise, I was not expecting much when we chose to visit this little shop around the corner. We'd driven by it many times and thought nothing about some bakery, until my wife decided she wanted soup and sandwiches. Even from the inside this place seemed like your typical business park eatery, with menus written in chalk, a variety of shelves with wares, and a small counter in front of a kitchen and the bakery itself. However, when I brought the food and bit in? WOW. The bread was absolutely fantastic and made the sandwiches. My wife ate a focaccia sandwich so big she saved half for later. Even I had problems finishing my cobb sandwich, which had just the right amount of guacamole and a tasty bleu cheese spread on it. Best of all was this onion rye bread that was not too overpowering on the rye and had a sweet onion flavor to it. Even the soups were well made, from my cauliflower potato (with just the right hint of pepper) and my wife's crab (with actual chunks of crab in it). This place made our day and we will most definitely be eating there again. Cost-wise its just a buck or two higher than Panera... and way better. They may not have the variety of the chain stores (they're just sandwiches, soups, and baked goods), but they definitely beat them on quality. My only wish is they had a wider menu (salads would be good) and more soups (they only have two and you never know what it'll be each day). If you're sick of all the fast food in the area but still want to pick up something fast, stop by Great Harvest. It'll be worth it!

I really love the baked goods here. My favorite is the almond pound cakes and the pumpkin chocolate pound cakes. They are SOOO good!! I am definitely going to come back and get those again. An awesome thing is they give free samples, and their samples are not small, but actually substantially sized so you can really taste it (that's actually when I ended up buying the almond pound cake!). The items they put out I think do change each day, so check their website for what is going to be out during the week. Oh ... the Challah bread is really good too, but try to get them fresh if possible. I think one pack of Challah rolls I purchased once were a little old, and they were a little stale when I ate them a day or two later. They were still good, but I am pretty sure they were older since the fresh Challah that I got here was moist for many days.
