Burger or Hamburger is savored as the most desired fast food meal in the United States. A hamburger is basically a sandwich prepared by stuffing ground meat patty, generally beef, between two slices of a bun cut in half. Hamburger is also famous for its seasoning. Most popular condiments used in hamburgers in the United States are mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. Besides ground meat patty, hamburgers are also stuffed with lettuce, onions, tomato slices, pickles, and cheese.
Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top. American restaurants also serve veggie burgers for those who don't relish meat. Cheeseburgers are also hot favorite in the United States.
McDonalds is the most popular fast food burger restaurant serving different types of burgers in the United States. On the other hand, there are several restaurants such as Burger King are famous for serving the best hamburgers in the United States. This Burger Joint is def my favorite one around. Staff is super friendly and they definitely have of patience for their customers. They are always open and very helpful with your order.

My friend and I visited the BGR during lunch hour. The staff was friendly and accommodating. My burger was all right. I just wish the burger buns were not cold. My friend's veggie burger was disappointing. The patty was lacking flavor and falling apart. The onion rings look nice, but they don't taste fresh. The milkshake wasn't bad. I don't think I will go back in the near future.

Great burgers. Bacon is cooked to perfection. Not too crispy or bacon bits like some other places. Place is ice cold in the winter. If you sit anywhere near the door you will freeze. Take out only in the winter months. Servers are nice and friendly. Old Bay provided for fries which is nice. Great that management understands that they are located in Baltimore region.

Good food, slow service and not correct in the toppings. I've worked in food business and make tables and preciseness on toppings is very important. 3 out of 5 is more than fair. Plz fix.

Burger box special is the way to go here. $8.99 for a burger, fries, and a drink. They discharge for every sauce or spice added to the fries though...garlic, rosemary, etc. It would have been nice to have known told this ahead of time.

It's a 5!!!! We were looking for burgers, not Wegmans Bar or Five Guys, and found BGR. It is a nice, small place. Nice, relaxed atmosphere. The guys taking the orders were friendly and helpful. My hubby ordered The Triple D, dry-aged prime burger with fries. He said it was outstanding. Fresh, juicy, cooked to his liking, well seasoned. It was a hit! I ordered the veggie burger bowl. Veggie patty made of brown rice, black beans. Served over a bed of fresh mixed greens, red onions, cucumbers. Blue cheese, balsamic vinaigrette or BBQ sauce. Those crunchies from the rice patty are delicious. I ate it all. It was that awesome!! Next time I will order my patty a bit crunchier. It was perfect. Service was excellent, food was awesome, tables were clean. This will be our burger joint for sure. PS when you check in they take 6.00 off your total of 25.00 or more. Nice!!!

Food - Very good. Made to order. Fresh ingredients. Pretty big portions. Special burgers and sweet potato tots are a must try. I loved my Greek burger! Service - Fast, friendly. Wait time is because your food is made to order. Price - A little on the pricy side if you just want a regular burger. Environment - Not bad, small space, but it wasn't very clean when I was there (dirty tables). Overall, I liked the food here a lot. It's fresh and delicious. BGR is where you go to shell out a few extra dollars for a fancy/high quality burger. If you just want a regular burger, then you should hit Five Guys.

Simply the best burgers! It doesn't get much better than fresh Angus beef seasoned with Montreal Steak Seasoning on a Martin's potato bread bun. The staff are always friendly. The grilled asparagus and fries leave something to be desired, but I go for the burgers and I'm never disappointed.
(5)Rob P.
There's really no point in asking how you want your burger cooked when you're just going to cook them all well-done anyway. This BGR isn't anything special. It always seems understaffed and the food takes about 10 minutes to come out AFTER you've stood in line and ordered. At least they're transparent about the fact that this isn't fast food. It's an airport so I don't really hold any of the places to a very high standard. BGR is the kind of unmemorable place that you'll go to if it's near your gate, but not the kind of place you seek out any other time.
(3)Daniel C.
Pretty good burgers here 1. Thick cut fries 2. Thick and juicy third pounder meat Different style from Five Guys burger. Patty is not as oily here, it's dry.
(3)Adam N.
In terms of a taste which can only be describe as quintessentially beefy, BGR is really the best of the fast casual burger chains within a reasonable distance. Their dry aged burger are incredible, so much so that I always get a burger here without cheese, because the meat is just that good, and always grilled to my request of medium. They have a nice element of chargrill flavor which manages to be clean but also very meaty. The brioche-style buns are great as well, perfect for lending a touch of sweetness to the taste of beefy fatty juices inevitably dripping from the burger. Toppings have always been fresh, and I love that caramelized onions seem to be the default choice when you say you want onion. Really, they add a lot to the synergy of the burger. Cons are the upcharging, which their counter people are obviously pushed to do, and the relatively small dining area. A coke freestyle machine is a plus, as are the occasional coupons which come in emails. If you are a burger purist and don't default to always having to have cheese and bacon on your burger, this place is affordable. Otherwise it can start to get maybe a little pricier than you'd want.
(4)Sylvia B.
I really enjoyed my burger at this place. I had the made to order burger with cheddar cheese, bacon ,avocado, grilled onions, lettuce, and pickles with a side order of the asparagus which was definitely fresh and covered with parmesan cheese. Wow I've never tried it with the parmesan before but it was great! Also here's a tip if you check in thru yelp you can get $6.00 off coupon that can be used right away off a total of $25.00.. so we took advantage of that. Every bit counts. Lol
(5)Camille P.
Phenomenal. I'm keeping it short n sweet this time. I got the Cuban, he got a traditional burger with a few extra toppings. No fries, but next time I'll be sure to report the status back to my Yelpers! The soda machine- cool! Speedy service and I love the guy with the hat shaped like a cheeseburger. hahaha The burger was big and we werent extremely hungry so we shared his burger and I refrigerated mine. The Best Part: Woke up the next morning and heated my burger in the microwave and it was the best thing we've ever had! The burger meat was STILL juicy and good not dried out and rubbery- we couldnt believe it... we fought over the last bite (of course I won!) Phenomenal.

Reading some of these other ridiculous reviews is what prompted me to write this one. Columbia is a sad, sad place with some inexperienced palates. Better food at Hoolihans? Give me a break! I have to restrain myself so that I don't become a BGR addict. These are not burgers for the cheap-o, mass-produced-craving, grease-mongers. You want a decent, greasy, nondescript carnival burger? Go to Five Guys. Buh-bye! For those looking for a real burger experience--BGR is the place for you. These burgers are for "foodies," "food nerds," or whatever you choose to call us these days. You cannot get a better burger in the chain restaurant hell that is Columbia. I have tried almost every burger on the BGR menu as well as the lobster roll--ALL mouthwateringly delicious and enormous! Orders of fries, heavy on the rosemary and garlic--make 'em sweet potato fries--are fantastic too and should definitely be shared. Yes, BGR is expensive but you get what you pay for. Their only downfall is limited, uncomfortable cafeteria-like seating. A suggestion for owners: get a liquor license! These burgers are screaming for a nice shiraz or cabernet pairing--perhaps a Cotes du Rhone with the Wellington? I almost want to smuggle a bottle in with me each time I go. Do ya got a speakeasy hiding in the back there somewhere for dedicated repeat clientele like myself?
(5)Lilian Y.
It's your regular burger joint. Kind of like Five Guys but less options. I got the regular burger with American Cheese, Bacon, Grilled Onions, Tomatoes and Lettuce. Any cheese and bacon is an extra $0.99 each. I also splurged and got the Onion Rings ($4.49). Totally NOT worth it! You get 7 rings and its your regular deep fried onion rings. At $4.49, you'd think you would get a mother load and THE best onion rings you've ever had. The burger is definitely not as greasy as Five Guys. It was alright.
(3)Arick S.
This is one of the most flavor-packed burgers in recent memory. Dare I say it was a tastier experience than Five Guys or In-N-Out? It's certainly a possibility. For $6.99 I get a solid burger on a fresh, local-made bun with a giant slice of tomato, crispy pickles, a big leaf of fresh lettuce, and some mojo sauce. In my experience you don't need to get the fries. The burger will fill you up. I would say get the sweet potato fries though!

For those who do not know, BGR stands for Burger Joint! BGR is famously known for their prime dry-aged burgers that are grilled over an open flame, sometimes right in front of you! They have been the #1 burger restaurant, #1 burger in DC, and #1 burger patty in DC for the past couple of years according to the Washington Post. I believe they originated from Philly. Now let's talk menu: Having been in walking distance to the Bethesda location for almost three years now, I have had my good share of menu tasting at BGR. Below are my tummy and taste bud assessments of what I have tried: The Burger: Their legendary burger is by far the most original burger. The meat is SO good. Not flat not too big and perfectly juicy! You may pick how you want your burger cooked, I tend to order mine Medium. I have never had to send it back due to not being cooked correctly. They are very attentive. I have also created my own burger from the "Create Your Legend" section of the menu. I often order my burger with lettuce, tomato, pickles, Swiss cheese, avocado, and caramelized onions and mushrooms. The Veggie Burger: These babies are made from total scratch using their "special recipe" and hand-formed patties. They are so good! I went vegetarian the whole summer of 2013 and would come here with my work buddies during lunch. It is a great burger!!! Even meat-lovers love it. Truly is a perfectly seasoned burger. Menu Sides: Regular fries (yum yum yum!) and sweet potato fries (even yummier!). I always add rosemary and roasted garlic to the sides, gives the taste a boost! **Please note that I do not eat bread that often and therefore, have always ordered my burger in a lettuce wrap. It is so much healthier! You can also order your burger (with all the toppings you desire) on a bed of salad! Helpful Pointer: Make sure you sign up for their loyalty program. I know you can sign up at any restaurant location and after you accumulate 9 points (which I believe is 9 burgers) you get a free one!

Met my boyfriend here last Monday night while we were both out running separate errands. I ordered a legend, spicy with American cheese and avocado in a lettuce wrap. He had a legend with pepperjack cheese, the works with mojo sauce on the side. We shared a drink and fries. I like the fact that burgers are cooked to order, however I ordered medium rare and he ordered medium and both came out rarer than we ordered. Also, the kitchen is super loud but the cashier wouldn't speak up, even after we told him to twice because we couldn't understand what he was saying or asking. The food tasted fine, particularly the fries. To my dismay the lettuce wrap was more like they dropped the toppings in the bottom and then the patty on top, so in the end I had toppings with no burger to go with. Next time I'd just get a regular burger and eat it with a fork and knife.

I must say this place was pretty good.Just a little more than i would like to spend on a meal for what i got.I won't be a repeat customer not because of the food.It was good .Just out of my price range. One time was find with me.

First, excellent service. Folks smiled & were courteous. I also like the variety - tuna, veggie, burgers on lettuce etc... That soda machine is also the bomb. Everything was clean. Bathrooms included which is very important. It's kid friendly. They're fast & food is cooked to order. The meat is indeed fabulous but the bun isn't so great. I think I'll get it on lettuce next time. Also I requested medium & it was closer to well done. They also forgot my pickles on the side. The fries were hot & cut thick. All condiments were stocked & readily available. Now let's talk about the not so good, it is a tad pricey for what you get. Also, they don't exactly inform you that extras cost a lot extra. If you're on a tight budget, look @ menu & prices carefully. I think it's better than 5 Guys. I really dislike the ambience & food there. It's also better than other burger joints in the area. I'll be back & I'll bring my burger connoisseur. I have high hopes this can get to 5 stars for us.

Whoaaa! I'm not a burger nutzi but I will cry baby to THE BURGER. It is ugly, big and flamed bitter. I am so 'well-done' with it, not juicy but hard as a black rock. THE BURGER at $6.99 is not a joint happiness. I will drive thru away from this place and just be damn proud of the Five Guys. You can't substitute a Morton (coming up) for a simple burger. Steak is the great way for a meat.
(2)Antonio C.
Good burgers but a bit pricey. Very good quality beef though! I got the Wellington which was very tasty. My favorite part however were the onion rings which were arguably the best I've ever had! All in all, I like this place and will come back to try the chicken next.

Alrighty, I tried this place out at the recommendations of a friend who claims that these burgers are better than many other chains in the area. Location: In Columbia Crossing shopping center off of Dobbin Road. In between the Old Navy and Target. Next to a frozen yogurt spot. Interior/Ambiance: I thought it was fairly small inside. Maybe about 10 tables tops, one tv. Cover art on the walls. I was a little turned off regarding the cleanliness of the tables and chairs. I suppose this is because you bus your own tables, I'm not sure if the staff come and clean in between. Food: I had no idea what to order, I was just craving a cheese burger. So, that's what I ordered until I heard about the sauteed mushrooms with the truffle sauce. That sounded good so I added that to the burger. Two burgers one fry and two drinks came out to about thirty bucks. Personally, I thought that was bit high for what we got. Initially, upon first glance the sauteed mushrooms were displeasing to the eye. They just did not look good to me. I won't even remark on what it looked like. The taste itself was good, but there were so many of them that it kind of overpowered the burger and it made it extremely sloppy. Without the mushrooms, the burger itself tasted really good. The fries were hot, and didn't need any condiments IMHO. Honestly, I have had better burgers. I really think I made a misstep in selecting the mushrooms. The taste of the burger without the mushrooms is causing me to give it a second try. Maybe this time I'll add some divine swine. We'll see.

I've only been here twice and I'd give the burgers a 4/5. I always get them medium-well and the last time it seemed more on the well done side to me. I tried one of their signature burgers, the Wellington which had mushrooms and blue cheese. I wasn't quite fond of it it sorta killed the juiciness of the burger and made it bitter. Second time around I chose to create my own, just a medium-well, the works without pickles, avocado, and bacon. I'll be sticking to that for now on! I've tried the onion rings here, not a big fan of the batter they use, it's too doughy for my liking. But I'd recommend the garlic/parmesan fries they're the best combinations for a topping on fries. CONS: we waited quite awhile for the burgers, a family of 4 finished their lunch before we we're even served ours. It was pretty quite inside there, but the employees were making quite a commotion in the kitchen which is displayed for everyone to see. And if you're a newbie, the menu is placed along the side of where you order, you'll probably spend a good 2-3 minutes just reading it so it gets really packed in that small corner.

I come here from time to time. Mostly when friends want to eat here and then get some FrYo. Bottom line: It's a somewhat decent burger. You can totally customize these burgers. They have an assortment of toppings, most of which cost additional. The sweet potato fries are pretty good, but, nothing to write home about. I have had shakes a couple of these places (Tyson's and Columbia). Skip the shake. They don't have the rich unctuous mouth-feel that I look for in a milkshake. A cold creamy treat that has a flavor that can break through the cold. These do not have that. The biggest con of all -- the fact the burgers have a base-price of $7 with every topping adding to the cost. So, for example, Burger ($7) with Bacon ($1) and cheese ($0.50), that means a basic bacon cheeseburger will run you, $8.50. No fries, nothing else, just a basic burger.

This is my first review. The BGR Burger Joint was a bit of a let down, but maybe my expectations were a bit unrealistic. First the bad: Went there at 8:50 on a Sunday night. The hours posted on their website, Yelp and front door says 11am- 10pm. My girlfriend and I were told after ordering and informing the cashier that we planned to dine in that they were closing in 5 minutes. We told the cashier that the door and their website said they closed at 10 but she just mumbled some incoherent statement. She wasn't rude or anything. She was somewhat pleasant but just seemed a bit dazed. Honestly we felt bad, because we wouldn't have even considered getting food at a place if we knew it closed in 10 minutes. We both work in food service and can totally empathize with the experience of wanting to close up after a long day and night and then having people come in last minute. The neutral: After taking our order the other staffers fixed our meal without any nasty looks or anything. We ordered two burgers, I had a cheese burger, double patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles and a order of Parmesan fries. My girlfriend had a Wellington burger with sweet potato fries. The ingredients were fresh on my burger. It was cooked well. However, I was disappointed to see there was only one slice of cheese on my double patty cheeseburger. Their style of French fries and oil I actually like, similar to a lot of restaurants, but the Parmesan cheese was lacking, like the cheap kind filled with cellulose powder at the grocery store. I had a bite of my girlfriends Wellington burger and had my share of her fries. The burger was decent but I didn't like the taste or texture of the "black truffles". They were kind of slimy and off tasting . I'm not exactly an expert on black truffles and don't eat them regularly so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. The sweet potato fries were okay. Pretty standard. I think a sprinkle of some salt/sugar/ cinnamon would set them apart but that's probably asking too much. If my memory serves me well, our two burgers, fries and 1 drink came out to around 32 dollars. This is a bit too expensive for what we got. Beef is getting pricey these days. Since we planned on going to Target afterwards, and we didn't want take the food home, and I refused to eat 32 dollar burger and fries in the car, we sat on the curb for a minute, hoping one of the two Tutti Frutti tables would open. When it was clear those people weren't going anywhere, we decided to unstack 1 chair from the BGR side and sit outside. Right at the end of our meal, a staffer came out and brought a set of chairs in but didn't say anything to us. I'm assuming this meant we had to go but since we were just about finished anyway, we cleaned up our mess, restacked our chair and left. All in all, my opinion is that the burger was decent but priced a bit high... At least throw some more cheese on that double patty! Also change the hours on the door and website if you want to close early. Edit #1: the custom soda machine is a nice touch here. More fast casual places should definitely use it.
(2)John N.
Ate there last week on a spur of the moment chance. Had choice of national fast food or BGR. Got their "Cuban". Quite pleased with that choice. It's a fine example of "you get what you pay for". Going back again.
(5)Katherine B.
I would like to give 3.5 stars. I went to BGR with one of my rare burger cravings, which have lately been satisfied by Cheeburger Cheeburger. I heard i needed to go to this place and after checking our their menu i agreed. I ordered the Wellington which is a burger with mushroom/black truffle, bleu cheese, carmelized onions. It was pretty tasty. The mushrooms kind of over-powered the burger, but i got it medium well, and in retrospect probably should have opted for a rarer burger. The bun is brioche and was pretty good. Soft and a good meat/filling to bread ratio. I got the fried with parm, garlic, and rosemary. Also pretty decent. They kind of just sprinkle it all on top instead of coating and tossing them, so not sure if it's worth the extra $1.50. I really liked to mojo sauce to dip them in though :) I will go back to BGR, the burger was juicy and the price was reasonable. I want to try to ahi tuna burger, and the turkey burger is supposed to be grand. They also have one of those soda machines that you can pick any flavor/any soda type. My kids love that. All in all, 3.5 for fast service, juicy burger, and mucho options. Try it out.
(3)Lucy E.
This is a pretty good burger place for a chain. Absolutely better than your average fast food joint. I would have liked a little juicier burger, but the flavor was there. I go my patty served over a salad, which I don't normally do, but they did a nice job with it. Good hardy green lettuce, none of that wimpy discolored iceberg stuff. It's a good go to for lunch every once and a while.
(3)Tony M.
And in conclusion....... I love this place. They have a great veggie burger and the staff is always friendly.
(5)Corrin W.
Stale bun and overlooked burger. The toppings are fresh but the bun wasn't. I ordered my burger medium and it came out well done. I won't be going back to this place. I've been to the Columbia location and it was good.
(1)Marl K.
WOW! What can I say it is amazing! My wife commented that this is the best hamburger she has ever had in the united states! Fresh ingredients, freshly cooked, the quality of the beef is fantastic! Go now! The place is extremely clean and the decor is cool.
(5)John M.
My daughter says her burger was excellent as were the fries and chocolate shake. My Greek bowl was very good other than it was cooked well vs. med. No big deal, would definitely come back. There was a mix up with another part of the order and they fixed it right up. Much better than the alternatives.
(4)Jennifer L.
I am your fan BGR! This is my go-to place for burgers and those beautiful Yukon Gold fries. What!?? Your bacon is crispy and you know how to cook a burger and it's not greasy. You are a little pricy, but worth it. So glad you opened a location in BWI AIrport (hope you're still there). On a previous trip, I had a burger and fries before I boarded my flight. My son and I fight over your fries!
(5)Heru S.
Just tried out this burger place for lunch and the only thing I want to say is this burger is SO DAMN EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $12.99 for a 7 ounce greek burger & that's it! No french fries, no drink, nothing! I could have gotten 1 steak dinner at TGIF or the same size burger at Red Robin with all you can eat french fries & drink...what's up? It was not like it tasted so good that I can't live without! So if you have so much money to spend, yes, go to this place otherwise spend it on other eatery places for more foods! No more burger joint for me!
(1)David T.
Very delicious burgers, I ate a beef and my wife ate a veggie burger. We both agreed that we will definitely come back soon. I only regret is that i could eat one more. The burger, french fries and soda was more than i could handle this time. Very friendly staff.
(4)Jorge R.
Best burgers without the fast food feel. Excellent selections and alternatives. Weekends are less crowded
(5)Seong L.
I love the burgers here. I'm always satisfied when I come here no matter what kind of burger I get. The only reason why my review is a star shy of perfect is because of the price. It is a bit overpriced for what you're getting, but they have a deal on weekdays when you come in at a certain time and it's definitely worth it then.
(4)Matthew W.
The eating area was dirty and everything had a greasy feel. The burgers were not worth the price ($7 to start and extra charges for everything but lettuce and tomatoes). Especially do not come anytime after 3 pm. The restaurant is located such that the afternoon and evening sun heat the seating area and create an unbearable glare. I would not recommend this restaurant to friends or family.
(2)Adina K.
The burgers are delicious. Much better quality than Five Guys. They are cooked to order and to your desired temperature. The fries are lackluster. They tasted like generic frozen fries. Onion rings are better than average. Very kid friendly and fast.
(4)Sarah H.
Average burgers for incredibly high prices. I prefer 5 Guys. My husband and I got two burgers, two fries, and two drinks...total was $33.
(3)Suzanne B.
The burgers have shrunk in size. They used to be bigger and better. Still not a bad burger, but when you drop over 30 bucks on a couple of burgers it seems to me that you ought to be impressed. Not anymore.
(3)Danny L.
My favorite burger place. I've tried Ray's (good too), Five guys (good too), but my favorite place is this place. The beefiness of the burgers is what really shines. I always get a side of asparagus which as nice change from the typical fries.
(4)Meagan G.
I call in here often and eat in the restaurant as well. I've never had a bad burger from them. The service is good, the prices while a little on the high side in my opinion, its great quality which is why I go back. MoJo sauce is the best!
(4)Kristi D.
This place is good but not great. I asked for grilled onions & got raw. The prices seem high, but if you got the box set it made it more reasonable. Overall if you want a burger I would go to fudruckers but what do I know.
(2)Danielle D.
This place is amazing. Been here twice - got the cheeseburger once and today, got the grilled chicken sandwich. I don't think I've ever had a grilled sandwich like that before - DELICIOUS! Friendly service and delicious food, it's a great lunch spot.
(4)Becca R.
I'm always excited to try hand-made veggie burgers and respect any place that opts to make their own over serving frozen patties. However, their veggie burger is just not my personal taste. There was an overwhelming molasses flavor that just ruined it for me. If you enjoy savory and sweet combinations, then this may be your thing. I'd give the burger 2 stars, since again not my taste, but I can't justify giving the whole restaurant 2 stars because their food wasn't my thing and most of their customers are going there for meat burgers anyways. It's a cute counter service joint. Decorated with pop culture images. A little pricey for what it is; minus a tip you are paying close to what you'd pay at a sit down restaurant for the same thing. And if you have a bottomless pit of a stomach, you can hit up Tutti Frutti afterwards for awesome fro yo!
(3)Nancy O.
Had a legend burger woth cheese and mushroom topping. FANTASTIC! Great quality meat and cooked perfectly. My husband likes rare and I like medium well....both burgers were cooked perfectly. Sweet potato fries were perfect and not at all greasy. Ovetall a great meal.
(5)Danielle N.
Raw, undercooked meat! I ate there twice last year. The burgers are good with creative options, but...... The second time my burger was raw inside even though we asked for well done. It isn't a steak, ground beef should be cooked. My husband called them and left a message, but he never even got a call back. So much for customer service. I have and will make sure to continue to never eat there again.
(1)C W.
Overall, I thought this was nice place. The staff is friendly, seating available, and the food is well cooked; it's just a bit pricey. I tried the garlic parmesan fries but prefer the regular fries here. They are crispy.
(3)Meg k.
Tried lamb burger and tuna burger. Both cost about 12-13$. If you are charging that much I'd expect some more to the burger than the Giant (avg grocery store) bought burger bun and a piece of meat/fish on top of it. I wish it was something I could go back again, but wasn't worth the money.
(3)Omar S.
Very decent burgers (but the specialty toppings can be heavy). Some tasty looking sides, but fries were very heavy on the salt. Not the cheapest burger around but good quality, cooked to order. We tried 2 of their specialties, the Wellington (a little too heavily topped with the mushroom sauce), and the southwestern. I liked the Southwestern a lot. Also had garlic fries, which were pleasingly heavy on the garlic (minced garlic abundantly apparent) but with far too much salt in the mix. Nice interior space/colors, cool designs on the tables. An all-in-one soda fountain kiosk with a touch screen. Nice. Worth a repeat, tho I'll just dress a plain burger next time, and skip the fries maybe in favor of a shake.

I woke up craving a lobster roll this morning. I am not sure why but it just seemed like the right thing to do. Fortunately, BGR offers such a thing and an ample sized one at that with plenty of lobster meat atop lettuce and three slider buns. I ordered the sweet potato fries which admittedly was a little too much food. Luckily, a friend came along to share them with me. The decor reminds me a lot of some of my favorite haunts in Austin, TX with the funky lights, retro album covers and Pac Man on the bathroom doors. Bonus-it is right next door to the newest Tutti Frutti location. Dinner and dessert? Yes please!

First time visit. Amma took our order. When M asked about the VIP card she said they did not have any, even though they were right beside her on the counter. We ordered the Wellington: fried onions, bleu cheese, mushrooms, black trufffles. I requested MED and M requested WD. We also ordered the onion rings. What we got: no fried onions, some kind of orange sauce,REALLY salty bleu cheese, mushrooms in a sauce. Mine was WD and M's was charred hockey puck. Onion rings were not real hot, greasy and juicy. The burgers are on the expesive end and not very big, maybe quarter pound size.

The lighting is pretty dim compared to the stores around it. I thought it was closed at first. I like the pop culture decor inside the restaurant. Another thing that caught my eye was the soda machine - it's touch screen! I ordered the wellington burger for 8.99. Personally, it's a bit pricey but it's cooked to order and it's good quality meat. It comes with caramelized onions, sauted mushrooms, and blue cheese. It was a big burger and a little messy to eat but it was so delicious. The meat was so juicy and thick. I also had the sweet potato fries, which were lightly salted and the perfect texture of crispiness.

The food was cooked to order, the burger was lean, the drink machine is cool, and the music was pleasant. I prefer Red Robin and Union Jacks burgers.
(3)Jerrett B.
Tried most of the burgers and they all have their unique characteristics. But the lunch box special is a tried and true ole reliable. I ordered the turkey burger not realizing mushroom is infused (don't like fungus). When I asked I was graciously given a replacement. No problem. I'd recommend you come here and eat a burger as often as you can and still maintain a healthy diet.

SX and I tried: The Greek (cooked medium), Sliders, Lobster Roll, Gold Standard (Fries), Green Standard (grilled asparagus), and a Fountain Drink. It was expensive... albeit, we did order a lot, but even if we just ordered 2 burgers, 2 fries, 2 sodas... it's still a lot comparably to the other burger options in this area. Soda Machine was neat-o, but they really need to get another one. A lot of people are taking a lot of time figuring out how to use it (it's all touch screen. Basically you pick your base soda [ie: Coke, Coke Zero, Root Beer, etc) and then you could choose a flavored syrup (ie: Cherry Vanilla, Raspberry, etc) and end up with Orange flavored Diet Coke.] or what combination of flavors to get. I just had to try The Greek because I love lamb. I wish they grilled/toasted the buns prior. The Greek was tasty, but the mix of feta, tomatoes, and other somewhat wet fixings almost broke through the tender-crumbed bun holding it altogether. I thought the lamb patty itself was lacking in lamb flavor. It was pretty indistinct to me, though I enjoyed the mint and cumin flavor. However, overall, this was still a pretty satisfying burger. SX was pretty harsh on the sliders. He said he preferred Matchbox's sliders or White Castle's compared to BGR's sliders. He wanted a more juicer patty for both the sliders and the Greek; he felt it was a bit dry. The Lobster Roll was interesting... They used 3 slider buns for it (untoasted again, sadness). I don't really think it's worth coming here for the Lobster Roll. Gold Standard fries were pretty standard fries. Fried well with a crisp exterior and nice soft middle, but nothing extraordinarily special. Online I noticed that they mention a Burger of the Month and Milkshake of the Month. However, there's no further details about them in this BGR. In general, service is a bit shaky and not as friendly. Also, don't forget to clean up after yourself. The garbage cans are located by the side of the entrance. Some people didn't know what to do and just left their tables a mess with their plates (argh). I think it would be beneficial to have a garbage can next to the soda machine area.

In the mood for a burger but tried to be good by getting in wrapped in lettuce! It was way better than expected, I had pepper jack, cucumber and Greek yogurt dip on it and it was juicy and delicious! I will be back and I don't need the bun anymore.

Halal Lamb in the Greek Burger is awesome. But the lobster roll makes me question it all...

Really good barbecue in the middle of shopping center in Yuppieville Columbia, MD. Who would have thunk it?? Gotta try the moist brisket with the Texas Twang sauce. Just like being at a steak house. Corn bread is so moist no butter is needed. Don't get to Columbia often but I will definitely eat whenever I am around. If you like authentic made barbecue the the Famous Daves in the same shopping center should not even be a fleeting thought. Mission is the real deal. FD should start looking for a new location now and cut their losses.

Great selection of burgers and beverages that are not run of the mill. They are cooked to order and can be totally customized. People are saying it is expensive, but you are definitely not just getting some meat on a bun so in that sense you get what you pay for. Love it and will continue to visit when I want a good burger.
(4)Allison L.
YUMMMMMM! One of the best burgers I've had in a while. I just ordered the regular burger, and then topped it with cheddar cheese, bacon, tomato (looked like Jersey tomatoes), and lettuce. Condiments are available at each table and some other stuff (like yellow mustard and mayo) is available at the counter. I also got a side of the mojo sauce since I'd never had it before. It was sort of Big Mac sauce like, although more mustard-y or vinegar-y or something. It was good on my burger and even better as a dipping sauce for the fries. There were a lot of fries for the regular order, definitely enough for at least two people. Begin rant: I really, really have come to hate the Freestyle soda machines. The actual machines aren't bad, but it's ridiculous when restaurants only have 1 and 10 people are trying to get drinks and make their selection based on 945803579421 different drink combinations. Or, instead of having multiple Freestyle machines, have that plus a regular soda fountain, because I just want my damn Diet Coke and I don't need it with raspberry syrup or vanilla syrup or cherry syrup or cherry vanilla syrup. End rant. Service was ok, you order at the counter and get a buzzer thing for when your food is ready. Service could definitely have been a little friendlier. I hate when I order food, then something is missing (bacon, in this instance) and I feel like a jackass for pointing it out because the employees seem annoyed that I deigned to point out an error. Some of the burgers were kinda pricey, but mine was less than $10 and I felt like that was definitely fair for what I got. Overall, between a 3 and 4, but I'm rounding up to 4 because the food WAS really good.

My family and I go at least once a month and we've never been disappointed by the burgers. The grilled asparagus is a plus as well! My husband also loves the option of sweet potato fries. My only complaints are that the music is usually so loud, it's hard to hear each other talk and it's a bit pricey for a burger joint. My husband, son, and I will each order a burger, share a basket of fries, and normally just drink water and it's about $40. Definitely not a weekly thing, but fun for a quick, monthly treat with the kid.

This place was good, but not great. In fact it was very good. My main issues are cost and variety, or should I say variety and cost. There are a TON of options; however, the more options you choose the more the cost. That seems logical, but since when does a simple burger, made into a double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and fries equal $15. They do have a box special which is a good deal, but not for just a good burger. Our total bill was $26 for a "fast food" burger and fries experience. Again, it was good not great and certainly not $26 worth.
(3)James U.
We went here because we had a coupon and were looking for something new - I guess marketing really does work! This was a perfectly mediocre burger with some perfectly mediocre fries for a great-burger price. My wife got the grilled aspargus instead of fries and it was just awful. If what I paid with my coupon was the permenant price, I'd probably consider coming back when I was feeling poor - but even at that price point there are still better burgers to be had in the area.

I have been here 3 times in one week!!! with I am very impressed. The menu is creative and the food is fresh a seasoned to perfection. Our daughter enjoyed the new state of the art touch screen soda machine. When selecting Sprite the machine gave her more option to customize/flavor her drink such as sprite-strawberry, sprite-peach, sprite-raspberry etc... It has cool 80's decor. It's kinda small inside but very clean. We didn't have a problem finding a table. Most people were getting their food to go. They have healthier options such as veggie & turkey burgers for those counting their calories. Overall I think this is a pretty cool place. Try the sliders and custiomize your fries with garlic, parmesean cheese and/rosemary. Hubby got the sweet potato fries which were delicious! Watch out dutch or dutchess...I'm coming for your title. I'M HOOKED!!!

Apparently Fat Burger changed their Sunday hours, so the next available option in the Columbia MD area was BGR TBJ for a turkey burger. The place is dark, one flat screen TV and they have a pager system when ordering. I ordered the Turkey burger which included stuffed portobello mushrooms and a hint of gorgonzola cheese, fries, and Fountain drink which total to about $17 (No that is pricey). The burger was ok, and the fries were dry, really hot, but dry. They did not have an even smooth french fry taste to complement the sandwich. If you know your burgers then this place should be on your radar to try, but there's no promises to be made. May be if I had added a slice of cheese that would have a made a difference; I shall try that if I am ever in the neighborhood.
(2)Henry L.
BGR serves, by far, the best burgers in Columbia, MD! Very tasty, good size, great options, and fantastic staff. This is my go-to place!
(5)Jason P.
This place is great,my first time here ,and had a great experience.I ordered over the phone,it was ready in 15 minutes, and the service was great. The burger was awesome, very comparable to five guys,if not better.
(5)Andy F.
Delicious burgers with fantastic fries, a great alternative to Five Guys. With massive burgers you won't leave with an empty stomach. I got mine with mojo sauce which was dripping out of the burger but tasted great. Make sure to get roasted garlic on your fries if you want your mind blown.
(4)Jim S.
The Burger Joint actually makes a very good burger. The fires are also really good and the soda fountain is a techno marvel that is worth the trip all by itself. The decor rocks. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the manager was awesome. My problem here are the price's. I am sorry but it is a burger, and even with the amzing toppings it tastes like a burger. Food = Good Soda Machine = Holy cow = Great Staff = Great Decore = Great Prices = Muy Mal = BAD
(3)Mary W.
I got the Southwestern burger and never have I had anything so vile. I feel completely stupid for picking the burger--it definitely was not what I expected, based on the description, nor did it even taste like ground beef at all. It had more of a similar consistency to pulled pork. It was dry, weirdly spiced, and fell apart before I even took my first bite. My two friends whom I ate with got the Wellington, which was overpowered by mushrooms. Totally should have gone with a plain burger that's part of the lunch special. The only highlight of the meal were the sweet potato fries and garlic fries that my friends had, and the cool decor. And the soda fountain isn't even that cool at all. McDonald's in New York City have them. Needless to say, I will not be coming back.

I enjoy checking out new places in my neighborhood and hadn't tried The Burger Joint yet, so decided to last night. The cashier was very friendly and walked me through their menu and explained some of the choices to me. I ordered the turkey burger with a side of sweet potato fries and a soda. I was a little shocked to see that the turkey burger was one of the cheapest things on the menu, even though it cost $9.99. My total came to nearly $17... which I thought was a little pricy for a burger, fries and a soda but I hoped my food experience would make that price worth it. The soda machine is pretty awesome, and probably the best part of my experience at BGR. The turkey burger I ordered was pretty good, not the best I've had but not the worst either. The bun was average, and the fries were your typical steak fries you'd get at any burger joint. The meal was tasty, but the whole time I was eating it I was wondering why I paid so much for something I could have gotten at Fuddrucker's or Five Guys for less than 10 bucks. There was nothing about the food at BGR that made a burger, fries and soda worth $17, in my opinion. All in all, it was a tasty meal but nothing to write home about. At nearly $20 for one person to eat, I probably won't be returning. I was going to give this two stars, but added a third because of the really nice cashier who made me feel welcome.
(3)Melissa B.
I have visited The Burger Joint a few times before; I usually get the Burger with their Mojo sauce and lettuce and tomato. I've tried the asparagus a few times, but I usually get fries with my burger. This last visit, I decided to try the Veggie Burger - it was delicious!! I was very pleased with the flavor and it was not at all dry. The Mojo sauce really gives a nice extra flavor to any burger. I think I'm all burgered out for a while, but when I'm ready for a flavorful Veggie burger, I know just where I'll go!
(4)Jamie D.
Yummm... Pretty good for a small burger place. Food was made to order. The service was fast, bathrooms and tables were clean. Staff were very friendly.

The wife and I had been waiting for this location to open, as we are always looking for a new place to check out. We're obsessive like that. And for the most part, this place did not disappoint, although there are areas of improvement. The Good: - Burger choices and eclectic varieties make for some unique eating experiences. I'm really looking forward to trying the Lobster Roll. - The decor is a welcome change from the usual burger places around Columbia. It really has a retro feel to the color choices, lighting and memorabilia. - The quality of the food seems to be above average compared to other burger joints. Everything seems to be made fresh to order and the burgers were done just as we asked. - The Soda Machine! You get to custom choose your soda from a touch screen, along with flavor shots. Very cool, but only one of them so you could have to wait while people figure it out. The Bad: - The price. There are going to be a lot of people complaining about price on here, and it is definitely more expensive than Fudds or Five Guys. They are billing themselves as a gourmet burger establishment, so naturally the prices will be higher. I don't like spending a ton of money on burgers, but the ones we ate made it feel worth the price. Improvements: - Customer Service. I think all of these workers are new, because they don't greet you when you come in or when you say hello to them when you pick up your food. I think this will get better as they get more used to it. - Consistency. My friend had the bacon burger and said the bacon was great. I had a bacon burger and my bacon tasted like a rosemary sprig; I think they went a bit too far on the "rosemary infused" portion. Some fries and onion rings that we saw were crisp and some were dripping in oil. Again, I think this will get better as the place goes on.

Ive been in this shopping center quite a bit in the the last couple of years but i've neglected to realize this place was ever there. Its tucked inside the shopping strip where Tutti Fruity (frozen yogurt place) and Chicken Out ... and maybe some mattress store(?). The restaurant is small but really nice decor... Great looking artwork on the walls and awesome mosaic tables. With my groupon.. I had the burger (just the regular burger) with pepper jack cheese and... basically every topping and a soda. My burger was very tasty and the toppings were very fresh. I wish my bottom bun wasn't so soggy from the oil of the burger patty. As I was eating the burger the bottom bun essentially disintegrated :( Knife and fork for me! AWESOME SODA MACHINE! Literally .. soda machine of the future and best of all .. they have my favorite flavor! vanilla coke. They have a soda machine like this at elevation burger (in VA) and (Potomac ). Oh and for those who like fries and old bay... yes they have them here!
(4)Haleigh R.
If you're looking for a place that serves overpriced food then you've come to the right place. Their food is great I'll tell you that but I don't think I'd spend that much money when I can go to Cheeburger Cheeburger.

First time coming here was definitely a great experience! Me and the broski went here a few days ago; heard alot about this place, good and bad. What really got me interested was the burger with foie gras and black truffles. We came in and this woman that was taking our order, my gosh was she a remarkable saleswoman! She sold me on everything! We were planning to get JUST the burger and drink, costing no more than 20-25 dollars. But that woman... We got the burger, fries, shakes, drinks, AND another burger to go! I didnt even know what I bought until she gave me my receipt! I was in a trance, hypnotized, saying Yes to everything she asked. She wasnt even persistent... A true saleswoman there. Could of sold me a freakin house and I wouldnt even have noticed! Total for that day, on just the 2 of us, was almost 60 dollars! I apologize for getting off topic. So we came in and we didnt see any drink fountain anywhere, which was kinda odd... Figured it would be behind the counter then? I ordered the Wellington burger with monterey jack cheese instead of bleu. If you're not too fond of bleu cheese then dont get it in the burger! It overpowers the other flavors of the burger if you put the bleu cheese in. And I recommend getting the burger, and just the burger with no additional toppings. My brother got the same burger with the bleu cheese. 1 regular fries and 1 sweet potato fries. 1 vanilla shake and 1 shake of the month (Peach). 2 fountain drinks. There IS a soda fountain, its just newer? And more effective than its predecessors. Though it can be overwhelming with the amount of drinks it contains. But 1 machine that has around 120 different drinks in it! WHAT THE HECK. I couldnt believe it. Flavors... The Wellington which I wanted medium, came perfectly. A little more pink in the inside. Tender, juicy, delicious. And with the right toppings = Absolutely amazing. I dont even know what foie gras and truffles taste like to be honest, but that burger truly tasted unique. Never had any other burger close to that ever! 1 Wellington costs around 8-9 dollars. Just the burger itself, but I can assure you that its worth it, every penny! My brother's burger, with the bleu cheese was good, but a little overpowering on the cheese (Told you bro!). The fries were ok, preferred the regular fries. The vanilla shake I had was very good. Thick, flavorful, and just right. Nothing wrong with this place, except maybe the decent fries? Service was fantastic, 1 of the best. Overall the experience I had there was phenomenal. Oh then before leaving, I had to get the Ahi Tuna... Now for some of you that dont like raw stuff, this isnt for you! Also those who arent usually open minded when it comes to food, this might not be right for you! But for me? My gosh... The fish tasted fresh, clean, and melts in your mouth. Goes perfectly with the other toppings, and the buns? Smooth and tasty ;) haha 5/5 Most definitely.

Better than Five Guys. Forget Red Robin. Kill yourself if you just eat Burger King or McDonald's, because the shock of tasting the burgers here might kill you anyway. The burgers here are excellent. I can tell that they use prime, aged beef. The specialty burgers are a wonderful, delicious adventure, like the Korean BBQ burger, or the one I had, with an egg, cheddar cheese, bacon, and jalapenos. Or, you can create your own work of art. The toppings are all top quality and full of flavor. The fries here are good but nothing too special. As an added bonus, the staff are friendly and enthusiastic, and the music they play here is great. Let me just lay it out for you: if you don't think the burgers here are at least good, then you have a problem and you should seek professional help. The end.

BGR had been on my radar since they started up in Bethesda, but I never quite got around to going. Since they opened a location nearby in Columbia, I had even less of an excuse not to try Maryland's hot new burger joint. After a weeknight trip to Home Dept (yeah, we're that boring couple now), the missus and I dropped in check it out. Bottom line, it's over-hyped and expensive -- I was expecting much, much more from this place. I ordered the "Throwdown with Bobby Flay"-winning lamb burger, which had a nice flavor, but was pricey at $13 and was pretty small. My wife got the regular burger, which was good, although not "the one burger you must have before you die" good. The sweet potato fries also pleased, but certainly were not "highly addictive," and we've definitely had better. (Yes, these are all direct quotes from the menu... over-hyped indeed!) Service was cool; I was expecting a little more interaction, it was really all "just the facts, ma'am.". We stared at the menu board for a while since it was our first time here. The cashier just kind of stared at us waiting to order... there was no one else there, it would be a great time for him to ask if we had any questions or wanted some suggestions. Crickets. I will say, however, that we ordered our burgers medium and they came out medium. Looking at some of the other reviews, we may have just gotten lucky on that one. And the soda machine is super-cool... although as my wife reminded me, it's a touchscreen... which means everyone else has been touching it too. Thanks for that reminder as I pick up my burger, sweetie. Again, everything was a-okay good, three stars for taste. But when two burgers, a shared order of fries, and two fountain drinks tops $30 -- and it's counter service -- you're just kind of shaking your head and wondering how the heck *that* happened. Not sure I'd come back here. I'm just as satisfied by Five Guys, particularly with their wide range of free toppings and tasty cajun fries, and it's like half the price.
(2)Jeff C.
First time I went here, the food was adequate, albeit overpriced. Second time here, the food was still overpriced, and the parmesan fries were dry and flavorless. Third time here, the food was overpriced and the hamburgers were raw. Mmm, mild case of food poisoning. I shudder to think of what my fourth time will be like. If there is one. I can't really get the taste of the raw burger out of my mind to remember what their properly-cooked burger tastes like. Do yourself a favor and ask for your burger cooked well. Then cut it in half before taking a bite, so you can send it back when it's raw inside. Pass on the overpriced, oversized, flavorless fries. Their shakes are good, but they're definitely on the sweeter end of the spectrum, and may be too sweet for some people. And yeah, $20 for fast food? You can get better, for less, elsewhere.
(2)Kimberly P.
Great place! Great burgers! Definitely worth trying. Good time to go is during lunch since they have a lunch special. And try the fries...so many good choices!
(4)Emily M.
I was poking around outside, hoping to find out when they're opening to the public (May 17, 2011) and got cheerfully invited in for their soft opening. Yay! Who am I to turn that down? I called my friend to reschedule our lunch plans, and in we went. Atmosphere: 5 stars The restaurant decor was awesome, loved the colors and look & SO happy to see a coca-cola freestyle machine. The lighting fixtures and wall decorations are super fun, and enjoyed the look of the large menu on the wall. - 5 stars Food: 4 stars First of all, this was their soft opening, so not everything was available. Just burgers and fries basically, but you should know they are more than burgers and fries! Seasonal Lobster Rolls will make an appearance, there's an Ahi Tuna Sandwich, onion rings, and I am VERY excited to try something called "The Green Standard". According to their menu, these 'asparagus fries' are asparagus spears grilled and sprinkled with parmesan cheese. UM YUM! I got "The Southwestern" which they say is very spicy - and surprise, yes it is! I am so used to being disappointed by restaurants that say things are 'spicy' when they're really not. But no disappointment here! The burger is infused with a bunch of chilis, topped with Pepper Jack, and sits on top of this black bean/mango relish. Definitely yummy! The fries were average, but I missed that I had the option to top them with cheese and rosemary, and besides, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the asparagus spears from now on anyhow. :) Couldn't try the milkshakes yet, but I'll be back for those. Service: 4 stars Hard to really tell because it was their soft opening, but everyone seemed cheerful. It was pretty slow to get the food, but again - soft opening. Price: 3 stars Ugh, a little pricey for a burger for me. Looks like it will cost me about $15 every time I want to eat here, which is about $2-3 above what I'd want to spend for a meal like this. It's definitely a good burger, though, and there's a $9 'lunch box' special, so I am guessing it will get some good lunchtime (11am-2pm) traffic. So 4 stars overall! Can't wait to go back and try the shakes & Green Standard!
(4)Hansel T.
Nice friendly staff and cool little hole in the wall burger hang out joint. Burger was good and they cooked it the way i wanted which is a major plus. I would call the fries at par, though they are disappointing even with the tasty roasted garlic and parm topping. They stacked my brothers onion rings but they tasted flat. I think they need a tastier oil or something for their fried goods.
(3)Samuel C.
First time here. My sister told me about this place. Went there after work. Was a long wait. The place so pack that I have to take it to home. Was about to eat in. The food was overpriced and crazy as hell. I have me the southern burger. It was really good. love the vanilla bean shake. The staff are nice and friendly.
(4)Courtney W.
I love the all the food I've gotten at this 'Burger Joint'. The part I love the most? It's not dripping with grease! My favorite meal are the sliders: DELICIOUS! I find myself ordering from them now at least once a week. The other burger places like Red Robin, or Cheeburger definitely do not compare to this place. The fries, and the sweet potato fries are super yummy as well, and again, NOT GREASY! The seating in house is a little uncomfortable, with hard plastic cafeteria chairs, but I usually get mine on the go, so that doesn't bother me too much. I highly recommend =]
(5)LA A.
These guys just can't get it right. I gave this place a shot one too many times (at least six). No matter how you order your burger it will come out overcooked and dry, every single time! I tried the other BGR locations in Bethesda and Arlington, which were way better. I don't understand why this BGR is so below average. Not worth the money as the only thing gourmet about this burger is its price.
(2)Michael M.
What appeals to me most about this place is the quality of the ingredients, and the quality of their food preparation processes. The items are authentic, and very satisfying, when you are after this sort of thing. The hamburger is 80/20, or maybe 75/25, so cooks well. The toppings are also high quality, especially the bacon. I usually always get the burger, but it is the bell weather item, and they do it very well (I get mine medium rare to medium, btw). The buns are also very good. The sweet potato fries are some of the best that I have had, when you eat in. As with all fries, the further they get from the fryer, the more of a lost cause they are, so carry-out is dicey. The only complaint I have, which is minor, is that when you eat in, they practically dump the whole fryer basket of fries on the tray, but when you are carrying out, they will split the basket among a couple or three orders. And I love me them fries! When I have to have a good burger, I go here.
(5)David P.
I was expecting much more. The place is a plain glass storefront restaurant stuck in a strip mall with a very boring interior. They got an "A" for the music playing, everything else was meh - tables, chairs, floor, decorations (or more accurately lack thereof). Didn't use the restroom so can't comment on cleanliness, etc. Only 2 other people inside on a Saturday afternoon close to lunch so that probably should have been our first clue. I ordered a burger with cheddar along with fries. Following suggestions from other reviews, I asked for them with roasted garlic, parmesan and rosemary. Wife got a veggie burger bowl (skip the bun, served on a salad). Kid behind the counter got my fries wrong although he quickly corrected that - they were far and away the best part of the meal. My burger was dry and nothing special. Overcooked from the requested "medium" and smaller than the price would have suggested. The veggie burger followed suit with dryness and being completely forgettable. Toppings didn't impress either although I"ll give the tomato credit for being ripe. They also gave me ONE pickle. It wasn't worth it to go ask for another. Bottom line? The Red Robin 5 minutes closer to my house is MUCH better with excellent burgers, better atmosphere and a bar to boot for the same money.
(2)Matthew K.
The burgers...well, I'll start by saying the taste was there. things tasted good. the fries were good, but nothing extraordinary. The biggest problem the Mrs and I had was the texture. she got the southwestern well done, and I got the wellington, medium. Both were mush. no bite to the burger, and yeah, squishy in the hand and mushy in the mouth... definitely a letdown after all the positive stuff I've read about them before coming.
(2)Terrie P.
Good burgers . . . can't go wrong.
(4)Yanira R.
I'm giving it 4 stars because my other half loves this place. I prefer my burger from Somewhere else but they have great service, sides and their burgers aren't bad I just have a preference.
(4)Ishan P.
This place has set the bar for burgers. Even the original burger with nothing on it is amazing. I especially enjoy the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine. (Don't remember the name but they have one burger that was featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. It is very good)
(5)Roll T.
Not surprisingly, BGR serves as hopefully a minor speed bump in my decidedly pescetarian diet (ordering a lobster burger when your client takes you out would have been extremely poor form). At least I went down in style: foie gras, bacon, and beef, an unabashed trifecta of failure. If you are going to go down, go down swinging. All of these wonderful ingredients add up to a pretty tasty burger, but it did have a few faults. My medium rare burger was just a shade shy of medium well. The applewood smoked bacon wasn't as thick I generally like and the foie gras got a bit lost in the shuffle. There was a nice bit of truffle flavor to the burger although I preferred by recent experience at Black & Orange for entries in that category. Overall, however, these are just minor issues. You can't lose with the ingredients they use for concocting this novel burger specimen. Rosemary fries were nicely salted, but I prefer thin fries as opposed to these thick ones. There was no dipping sauce. I'd probably pass on the fries on a subsequent visit. I don't necessarily foresee myself in this area too frequently, but it isn't a bad option for the area. Unless you are going to Victoria GastroPub, this is probably the best you are going to do in the area for burgers.

Sadly I'm still on a quest for the best burger in this area. Hubby and I went there on a Saturday night around 7ish and it was pretty crowded. You order at the counter and than pick a seat while they make your food. Most of the tables had crumbs on them, there wasn't a lot of seating to start with and it seemed to be jammed together. So ambiance was eh. I don't care about ambiance though if my food is good. Hubby and I both got the original burger and added some bacon. We also ordered some fries to share. Sadly the burgers were very overcooked. I.e. we both ordered medium and I don't think either burger had any pink. The fries were ok but certainly nothing to rave about. This rather disappointing meal cost us almost double what we would have paid at five guys. All in all it was pretty disappointing and I don't think we will be giving it a second chance. There are too many other places to try out.

Large, good quality burgers with generously proportioned sides.

Red Robin needs to look out (especially with TBJ within a reasonable proximity). The menu has only a few selections, but any place that I can get grilled asparagus as opposed to fries has me sold! Despite the small menu, there's a tasty treat for every pallet. I had The Wellington, the touch of blue cheese hit the spot with out being over bearing. I'm ashamed to say that I don't frequent this place as often as I'd like.

If you like home made style burgers, this may be the place to go. I prefer the style greasy burgers patties on a flat grill. They claim to cook it down to rare, but I had medium rare and it was closer to medium well. They do have more interesting options than other fast food burger chains, but I have yet to try those out. I wasn't a fan of the gold standard regular fries, though the old bay option was nice touch.

Burgers are good but don't order well done as its a bit burned.

I see that this place has 3.5 stars, which is exactly what I'd rate it. Came here with friends on recommendation of one. I actually have a coworkers who raves about the Burger Joint in Bethesda all the time, so maybe I had some undue expectations. I ordered the Cuban burger (topped with ham, pickles, mustard, and swiss cheese) and sweet potato fries. I usually add up my points, but this time I'm going to go through what detracted from my ideal burger experience. -1: My friends and I agreed, the patty is what makes the hamburger. Don't get me wrong, they use quality burger patties here, but there was nothing that made the meat stand out. No matter how well-crafted the rest of the toppings are, if your foundation isn't good, you can only go so far. If only the patty had been more flavorful and meatier (especially at this price point). -0.5: The whole burger itself didn't sing the way truly amazing burgers do. The toppings worked well but textures and flavors were a bit bland all around. Solid burger, especially if you've got a craving for one, but I don't see why I'd pay more for a burger from here versus Five Guys, except that the construction is less sloppy. -0.5: The sweet potato fries were also solid, but not the best I ever had. I want to say I've had better... at Brewer's Art in Baltimore? These fries were good -- not dry and overfried but also not soggy either. However, just not impressive enough. Maybe the SPFs I've had elsewhere add secret spices or something. +0.5: The mix-your-own soda machine is nifty! I didn't really end up using it though. I will always choose iced tea over soda where possible, and they have pretty decent options (Gold Peak). A solid dining experience and a good place to get a good burger. I would not rule out going again, but it is not on my list of regular go-to's. To make the full 4 stars, it'd have to make me drool just thinking about it, and for some reason I'm not quite there when I do. However, maybe I was expecting more thanks to the hype-inducing coworker.

This place has really good burgers. I ordered the Burger with a side of Asparagus that I wasn't to crazy about but I didn't go there for their sides I went there for their Burger. I don't know what all the negative reviews are about. The price is kinda high but the quality of the meat seems way better than 5 Guys.

The benchmark here for me is Five Guys. I have been to BGR three times now and I struggle to decide which I like more, so that is a good thing! I love the well crafted, flavorful burgers and the options for sides is plentiful. I had tried all sorts of burgers and sides here (I do not like to order the same thing twice) and I have never been disappointed. Has the awesome touchscreen soda machine that lets you do all of the mixes and add-ins so that is neat. In the end, it is a burger place and the burgers are good -it is worth a trip if you have never been here before. Expect to spend around $10-12 for a burger, side, and drink.

This was my first visit here, and wow, I'm pretty impressed with the quality of the burgers I got. We came here for lunch and ordered the lunch special (called the "box set"), which is a regular burger or veggie burger with fries and a drink, and the cuban burger. Both of us were very pleased with our burgers. My wife said that her veggie burger was the best one she's ever had. You can definitely see the black bean and oats, and the hint of molasses really comes through and ties things together. She really enjoyed the mojo sauce too, which is I believe is a horseradish based sauce. The Cuban was also delicious. I asked for it done medium, and I think they delivered. It was beef patty was cooked through, juicy, and had a great flavor. The meat definitely tasted of higher quality than other restaurants that I've had around here (within similar price range). The pork in the burger was slightly tough, but the flavor and seasoning was there. The overall flavor profile of this burger worked and I really enjoyed it. The fries were good, nothing more than that. The regular fries are thick and from yukon gold potatoes. They were fried well, but nothing stands out other than they were good fries. The portion of fries they give with the lunch special is quite substantial in my opinion. For us two, the fries that came with the box set was enough for two people; we saw a few others that ordered the box set and were eating by themselves did not finish the fries and threw them out. Service was OK. The employee taking the orders was courteous and knowledgeable. It's a casual place where you order at the counter and pick up the food when it is done. Place was clean and looked well run. The prices are more expensive than your typical burger shop, but the quality of the product is noticeably higher, and in my mind justifies the additional cost. That being said, I would not eat here too regularly as it is a little greasy and heavy (probably why it is so good). It's a good place to have once in a while so you don't clog your arteries and break the bank. We'll definitely be back (in a few weeks).

I gave this place a try for lunch early after they opened today. The cashier who took my order was very nice but didn't really offer any suggestions for my burger or give me any information. I ordered the regular burger, fries and a large drink, which came to about $13, so the place is definitely on the pricey side for a burger. As others have noted, the coke machine is cool, but I would hate to be in the place when it was crowded because I'm sure the lines can get long with people trying to figure it out. After about ten minutes my order was ready. The burger was nicely presented but I did have some issues with it. First, I ordered it rare and it was closer to medium well. I like the brioche bun, but it wasn't toasted. Also, the bottom of the bun eventually disintegrated because of the burger's juice. As for the meat itself, it was nothing special. It was basically just a burger, and at this price it needed to be more than just a burger. The fries were nothing special at all, although well cooked - crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The main issue I had was that i asked for onions on my burger not realizing they would be caramelized. It seems like something they should mention that when you ordered. I also asked if I could get mushrooms on it since they put them on the Wellington and was told no. Why not? I was also really surprised that the cashier didn't ask me if I wanted any cheese on my burger. I didn't think of it until the burger came. That just seems like something that would be suggested when you order. All in all the meal was good but not worth the price. Five guys is definitely better and certainly cheaper.

Grand opening night was packed. I got there around 7pm and apparently everyone was excited to try the new burger place. I got the wellington burger with rosemary fries. I ordered my burger medium but it was cooked well done and although I thought the burger was good, it didn't taste amazing. The fries were ok but again, nothing special. I wouldn't bother paying 50 cents extra for rosemary fries like I did which means they take the regular fries and sprinkle a couple of rosemary seasoning on your fries but I could barely tell the difference. Overall, it was ok but I don't think it's worth paying about $10 for a burger. I think I'll stick with Five Guys and come here once in awhile if I need a change.

I'm not the type to go for a greasy burger joint in the middle of the work day. Puh-lease... my pencil skirts do not allow much room for movement as it is!! But today I made an exception. Perhaps because I was in a flowy jersey summer dress. And it was 2pm. I was famished, despite trying to keep my blood sugar consistent all day while munching on healthy nuts and berries. I needed food. Real food. A few weeks earlier I had joined friends in Bethesda for a post run meal, and we landed up at BGR... it was my first visit. I was pretty impressed by the burgers, so I was already familiar with the menu when I approached the counter. The turkey burger was just as satisfying the second time around. What impressed me more so was the quality of customer service at this particular location. The gentleman behind the counter who took my order was very attentive, and went out of his way to save me a few cents by offering the lunch deal, since I was ordering fries with my burger. I especially love the fact that he rocked the eye contact test. It amazes me how many people fail miserably at this. Before I left, I asked for a to-go container for the rest of my meal. Not only did another gentleman behind the counter treat me with such a nice disposition, the first gentleman double checked to make sure I was being taken care of when he noticed me back at the counter. I have to applaud these guys for their sunny disposition in a job that can be chaotic and tiresome when dealing with the hungry public day in and out. Props to you boys!! I may reconsider my apparel choice merely to compensate for a few more mid day burgers.

Burgers so good that I compare all others to them.

BGR has been on my radar for a while, but only recently did I have the time and the opportunity to be in the area. The decor is very spartan and fairly small with plastic chairs and one medium sized flat screen TV. I ordered 'The Wellington' with fries and a drink (total $14). The burger was good but a little saltier than I would have liked. I asked for a medium cooked burger and got exactly that. The taste of the meat itself was good and juicy. The fries were good but nothing special. Overall I would come back, but not too often because I think the prices are steep for what you get.

I went here last night, love the Turkey Burger. The cashier asked me if I came here regularly, told him no that it was my first time at this location. Normally I would go to the one in Alexandria. Well, he gave me a VIP card, after the 8th burger the next one is free (I love anything FREE) and he gave me 10% off for being military.

Went today on the first day it was open, but wasnt impressed with the overall meal. Ordered the Cuban which was actually good, but the onion rings were drenched in oil. I won't be ordering those again. My wife ordered the lunch special and she liked her burger. She also got the roasted garlic for her fries and what a surprise. It was 6 whole cloves of roasted garlic on top of her fries; I guess we were expecting it to be chopped into smaller pieces. I liked the Coke machine: I didn't find it hard to use at all. I did take a few minutes to check out the various flavors and there were a LOT of them. They had flavors I didn't know existed: Lime Coke Zero, Orange Coke, Cherry & Vanilla Coke. Nice variety, but they only have 1 machine and it gets bogged down when people are trying to figure out what to get (maybe they should have 2 Coke machines?). I'd go back to try a few more burgers as it seems like they have some growing pains to work though. I'll give them a few weeks.

A little on the pricier side of things - but the burgers and fries are good. It's fairly kid friendly, and the Tutti Fruiti next door doesn't hurt either. Not truly a place I would opt to be in the mood for to go, it's more of a consistent food place that's an option if we're close by. The Target for example, or driving home on 175 and stopping by there since it's close by. It's not a destination restaurant for us, but it is good, however a little pricey.
(4)Sean L.
Corwded and limited seating. It has a great soda fountain but the burgers were so-so for the price. One funny thing was my 11 year old daughter asked to get the kids special and the kid asked her for her school ID. I was floored by it. I said, "you can't tell she is withing the k-12 range you range?" I won't be going back.

The Burger Joint Was Very Good & TasteFul . I Ordered The Sliders & Sweet Potatoe Fries . The Burger Was Good And It Had Good Seasonings On It . The Fries Were Fairly Salty . The Eviroment Was Very Warming . It Kind Of Reminded Me Of home cooked burgars I Liked That If You Haven't Been There You Could Try Some Of There Things , Not All Though . The Service & There Attitudes Were Excellent , They Seem Like They Want To Be There . They Also Kept The Resturant Clean . It Was About 10 Or 14 Other People There As Well & They Seemed Like They Were Enjoying It As Well... Nasya B.

Love the fact that new eateries are now open in Columbia grabbed some curry chicken from Ichiban next door for myself and headed next door to BGR to grab some burgers for my sons. McDonalds this place isn't...and that reflects positively and negatively. They bill themselves as a sort of "upscale" burger place but, $20 for two burgers and one order of fries is somewhat ridiculous. It took us about 10 minutes to get our food but considering the burgers are prepared fresh and made to order that wasn't an issue for me. Since they are a new establishment I'm hoping they address a few issues...most importantly CUSTOMER SERVICE. No "Hello, "Welcome" or anything along the lines...just "May I take you order?" Although we didn't get a soda, they need more than one because it starts to back up quickly and unfortunately, that line runs into the line of folks waiting to place an order. All in all my sons, 15 & 12, really enjoyed the food but we won't be regular customers.

I came here with 2 friends. One got the Wellington, which looked really greasy, but made him happy. I split the sliders (4) with my other friend. We all shared the rosemary fries, sweet potato fries, asparagus fries, and onion rings. All of the fries were pretty good, and the onion rings were as big as cuff bracelets! Oh, and they have one of those electric soda machines that let you pick from all different kinds of flavored sodas. The service was very good as it took us a while to figure out what we wanted, and the guy at the register waited patiently for us to make up our minds. He also put up with us arguing in front of him about who was going to pay. After we ordered, we picked a table and he came over and sprayed/wiped it off for us without us even asking. Our buzzer went off when our food was ready, and I did not know where to put it. One of the cooks showed me the basket that it was supposed to go in, without making me feel like an idiot. It was not very busy, and we did not have to wait long at all to get our food considering everything was made to order. We had plenty of fries left over and I ordered a Wellington to go for my brother. By the time I got home, the sandwich was soggy and lukewarm. However, he enjoyed it. It was a very good experience overall, but I give it 4 instead of 5 stars because everything seemed to be a little on the salty side.

Best turkey burger and sweet potato fries around. The Thanksgiving on a bun is awesomely amazing. Soda machine is pretty cool too!
(5)Joy H.
Went here the other day for a late lunch to go and wasn't expecting to spend almost $20 on mediocre food. I ordered the wellington cooked rare. When I took a bite, I noticed that it was more on the well done side. My other complaint about the burger was that it just tasted really salty. The fries were okay, nothing special about them. I also ordered a the flavor of the month shake (thin mint) and it was good, but too pricey ($5) for so little.
(2)Chris S.
I took my husband and a family friend to this BGR for our own version of 'Throwdown." We compared BGR to two other local establishments. In the end, BGR's flame-broiled flavor knocked out the competition.
(4)Michael C.
great overall experience -- burgers were terrific, place clean and the staff was super friendly -- we'll be back!
(5)Nick K.
Had the "Thanksgiving on a bun" today - one of my favorite all time sandwiches. Great burgers and shakes too. Can't beat this place!

I'm a sucker for an amazing burger, so I have to resist going to this place multiple times per week. Everything I've had has been awesome, loved the ahi tuna burger.

We went at 9:30 on opening night and were impressed to find the staff still glad to serve us. He ordered the Wellington, rosemary fries, and a vanilla shake. I ordered the Greek burger, sweet potato fries, and a strawberry shake. $42. Ouch. Granted, we ordered more than we really needed (we wanted to have a variety to try), but that's a lot of money for two people at a fast casual-type place. While we waited we took note of the decor, music, etc and agreed that we liked the fun atmosphere. Our food came out relatively quickly, and the burgers were medium as ordered. Both burgers were very flavorful and well made. The rosemary on the fries was a throwaway - it didn't really stick to the fries, so it was kind of a waste. But the fries themselves were pretty good, and the sweet potato fries were great - perfectly done and not overly sweet or oily. The milkshakes were pretty good too - nice and thick, with yummy whipped cream on top. We each ended up stuffed and taking home half of our meals. Looking forward to trying it again!
(4)Jolie W.
Loved the sweet potato fries-plentiful for 2 people. The basic burger with everything was perfect. Also the southwestern had great flavor and was interesting. The coke machine was fun, need to add iced tea to menu. Fun atmosphere, great burgers and good variety.

Never even heard about this place until a co-worker told me to check it out on my day off. I'm tired of these places where they think they can charge so much for lesser quality food. The burger was very very very dry and had to take a gulp of soda with every bite to make it even possible to swallow. The Onion rings were soaked in fryer oil, dude let them drip off after you fry them please... I know you guys charge alot but, I don't want to pay extra for your dirty grease... thank you! A Big Mac Meal at Mc Donalds is even better, tastier, and cheaper than this place...... What a rip off.... Next time I rather stick with BK or Mc D's for a burger. I've learned my lesson.

I work in Columbia so I was looking for a place to eat today and I found this place. I loved it from the moment I walked in. They were very busy - it must be a popular place for lunch. I am very picky when it comes to burgers so I looked at their veggies and the buns at first - tomatoes were very ripe and nice and the buns looked great. I got the veggie burger, guy at the register didn't understand my order right at first so it took a minute(but I do have an accent so it's ok). At the end the cook gave me a free brownie for messing up my order, which was a nice gesture. The burger was awesome and the sweet potato fries too.I think the prices are very good for what you get, it's better than a burger at a bar and most chain restaurants. So whoever thinks it's expensive can stick to Macdonalds. I am definitely going back to the burger joint, eating their food made my day!
(5)Norm T.
Server: "Hi, what can I get for your tonight?" Me: "Can I please get a cuban, no mustard and a fountain drink? Can I also get some extra pickles on the side?" I later realized I wanted fries, so I went back an ordered fries. Went to get my rootbeer from the soda fountain, no rootbeer. Also, about 1/3 of the drinks were tapped out... Strike 1 Burger Joint. I also noticed that my receipt did not denote that I asked for no mustard. The server assured me it would have no mustard. Strike 2: I get my burger missing the pork slice, with mustard all over it, and no pickelts on the burger, just two pickles on the side. I was glad I didn't bite right into this burger because I would have been going to the emergency room because of the mustard that was all over the burger. Strike 3: I go back to the counter and the server and manager weren't even applogetic. "We'll make you another burger." Saying that with a condecending look and almost derogatory is not good customer service. That's why they call it customer service, not worker convenience service. After waiting almost 20 minutes for my original meal, which was wrong I just asked if I could get my money back, which the manager was reluctant to do until I started complaining about all the mishaps. To rush me out of there she decided to give me my money back. As I walk away, I notice that she only gave me my money from one receipt, and I had two because of adding the fries. Well on the second trip back to collect the rest of my money, as if giving me the rest of my money was s HUGE inconvenience, the manager did everything short of throwing the rest of my money to me. She even wrinkled my receipts to my face so I could sense her frustration. Burger Joint Columbia, take a note from the Burger Joint in DC (Dupont Circle) and in Bethesda and begin to provide good customer service, and get the orders right. Don't let the drink machines run out, and provide extra condiments. From someone who used to work in the resturant and fast food business I was more disappointed with a good chain that has turned bad as it expands. Next time I am going to head to another Burger Joint in the DC area.
(1)Bill K.
In the end, it's just another burger joint. The prices are way to high for the quality. The wife and I ordered the regular burger with cheese and bacon, a soda and a shake, which came out to $35. :-O There are other local restaurants here in Columbia that are cheaper, quieter, and make better burgers. We dined on a Friday evening and it was very busy and loud. Between the chatter of the other diners and the music I didn't even bother trying to talk to my wife, I would have had to have yelled.
(2)Leeann D.
Great 60s, 70s, 80s music atmosphere. Burgers are great, ingredients are fresh, food cooked to order and the lunch box special is a good deal. When you order, list out everything you want on your burger and make sure you read the menu in detail because you may not get what you think. Ie. veggie burger is covered in molasses.
(4)Jul A.
Excellent burger, love their sweet potato fries and asparagus!
(4)Rhonda S.
2 thumbs down. Bland burgers, sorry ambience and long wait times. You can get a way better burger at cheeburger cheeburger, houlihans, or matchbox dc. The best thing about this place was the coke machine and a chocolate chip cookie.
(2)Angela M.
This place rocks! Had the "Greek" burger which is ground lamb with mint and cumin- it was absolutely fantastic and cooked to perfection. The sweet potato fries might have been a little overcooked but still very good. Topping off the great experience was the wonderful service provided by Trish who was just a delight. The prices are are definitely higher than an "average" burger joint but what you get in return is also way above average. Yum!
(4)jay m.
Been waiting for this location to open, I live in Laurel and have visited the others when out on work calls Same fare here and service was not up to par Coke machine is neat but gets crowded and annoying go after rush or right at open, they still have a way to go in getting your food to you fast THIS IS NOT AN IN AND OUT LUNCH PLACE, with so many options in columbia I dont know how this will survive this location
(2)Lily S.
The food is amazing, the coke remix machine is awesome and the staff couldn't be nicer!! Their veggie burger is incredible. The coke remix machine is a soda dispenser that puts the moon landing to shame. You feel like you're living in some futuristic movie! (what can I say, it might be gimmicky but it tastes good and the gimmick works on me). The owner was so nice she showed me how it works and showed me how they refill it. So cool.
(5)David R.
Burger was very good, not great. It is super expensive though. A burger, small fry, and small drink will run you 15 bucks or more. If you are charging 9 bucks for a burger it should at least come with fries.
(3)Ann W.
Loved my bacon cheeseburger! The service was quick. I must admit that had I not had my Groupon it would have been quite expensive ... Oh and the coke machine was awesome!! Overall, I had a great experience at this location.
(4)Matthew L.
My wife and I went to the Columbia store after a trip to the Target next door and were very unimpressed. I ordered the Southwest burger and onion rings while my wife ordered the regular burger with the sweet potato tots. I also got a fountain drink. All of that came out to $28 and change, which is WAY to much for this quality of food, especially when it is counter service also. I ordered my burger medium and it came out well done, not that I think it would of been any better if it was cooked properly. My wife ordered well done and got something closer to medium-rarish. The onion ring were extremely greasy, I think they may double fry them like they do the fries but it doesn't work with onion rings. The sweet potato tots were ok, but they were about the best thing we had there and at "ok" that's not saying much. Overall way to expensive for the quality. Red Robin and especially Five Guys are much better, cheaper, and cook their food properly.
(2)Aaron F.
I liked the food. The service was excellent and the staff was delightful. People need to patronize places that care and this is one of them.
