Very happy with the pizza I had here earlier today. We tried three - truffled mushroom, veggie lovers, and the White. The White was meh, not flavorful at all, but the other two were excellent. Truffled mushroom in particular - wow, what a pizza!! Makes it way to the top three best pizzas I've had in my life. Slices is without a doubt the best pizza in CP. Now for some more details: I've always been somewhat skeptical of pizza by the slice - who knows how long it has been sitting there, does reheating the pizza really make it a fresh pizza, eating by the slice is more expensive etc. But Slices shows that their pizza by the slice is up there with the better pizzas of the world and not a bad thing after all. But I think I'll still try a take-out order of a whole pizza the next time so that I can compare the two and update this review. I definitely plan on going back! The pizza slices were heated nicely and tasted fresh. The pizza crust was excellent - flavorful on its own and not because of excessive butter like some of the other chains, and crispy! The restaurant is bright and clean. I like the pizzas on display although I suspect that in rush hours lines will grow long as people keep looking at the displays to figure out what they want. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Oh and the girl at the checkout terminal was hot.

FINALLY, I have found my go-to pizza place in College Park! I happened to stop by Slices Pizza Co. this afternoon, and considering that today was their grand opening, I didn't have high expectations. But to my amazement, Slices really had their act together! Service was fast and friendly! And the pizza was great! This place offers various slices of gourmet pizza, which is reminiscent of Peace of Pizza, the pizza place I would frequent in my undergrad days on the Main Line. Tonight I had a slice of their traditional Margherita pizza and a slice of the Mona Lisa pizza. Both pizzas offered a thin, seasoned and crispy crust, which sets this place high above the other greasy pizza joints in CP. The Margherita slice was saucy, yet the crust was still crunchy, which is a sign of a well baked pizza. The Mona Lisa had perfectly fresh grilled vegetables of eggplant, zucchini, red roasted peppers (not greasy or soggy) with goat cheese and a drizzled of balsamic glaze. Overall, great flavor combinations! Slices were filling, yet refreshing light. I can't wait to come back to try all other creations. In addition to pizza slices they serve panini's, "pizza logs" (their version of a stromboli), various salad options, and a dessert, including the Bella Nutella Roll (a pizza dough willed with Nutella and glazed with icing.) They had me at Nutella! Based on today's service, I'm hopping this place sticks around for a long time to come!

This is so easily the best pizza in College Park. For example: I don't like chicken and have never tried buffalo wings, but I've just picked up the second buffalo chicken pizza I've ordered from this place.

As a displaced Jersey girl living in DC I am repeatedly disappointed in the dismal pizza offerings in this area. This is, by far the best pizza around. Good crust, good cheese, tasty sauce. Now, if only they delivered...

My favorite pizza place in the area. No longer have to wait till I visit Bethesda for a good slice place. And it beats our favorite there as far as variety of flavors and tasty, healthy(er) choices. Veggie pizza you can convince your little kids to eat? Check! Try the "Mona Lisa" with zucchini, squash and eggplant. Though admittedly my kiddos still opt for the "Mac-n-Cheese" on occasion. Love the "Buffalo Chicken," and the mister likes all the meat varieties ... especially the "Sicilian Pepperoni" and whatever the super meat one is. Try it out (just be careful crossing Route 1)! My only negative (besides often having to dart across the busy street) is that they seem to have done away with the military discount. This is a shame, and I hope that will not be permanent. It was definitely a reason for us to visit more often.

Pizza was decent. But had the coupon that I got on yelp and even a coupon from app24 for $3 off pizza but they wouldn't give me it off. Told me it wasn't real.

I tried a slice of cheese pizza on opening day. I was very pleased as the slice was on par with the average New York pizzeria. Solid crust; thin, with crisp bottom and slightly doughy top. I believe it cost ~$2.30, which is about average nowadays. The space itself looks good, and the selection of pizzas being offered for slices was tasteful. It is very nice to have a quality pizzeria in the neighborhood!

Hands down Slices has the best pizza in College Park, MD. If you like the quality of the NY/NJ style pizza, then you'll love this place. It's the closest pizza I've had to NYC-style since I moved to Maryland from NY several years ago. Great selection of pies, and you can purchase slices individually. In terms of quality, Slices Pizza is better than it's Mom-and-Pop competitors Ledo's and Ratsies by leaps and bounds.

I've been here several times since they have opened earlier this year and it really is great pizza. They have tons of specialty slices that are different than other pizza places in the area. It is a little on the pricy end but you can tell they are using quality ingredients and the slices are huge. One is always enough to fill me up. My favorites are the buffalo chicken and the margherita pizza. The mac and cheese pizza is a really cool concept and is tasty, however I find it a bit heavy. Late at night this place can be hectic though with tons of drunk college students. But if you are getting pizza at 2 am, chances are you aren't sober either. And c'mon, College Park is a college town after all -- what do you expect? One plus side is that one time I came in right before they were about to close and they gave me a free slice :) All in all, this is a great spot to get lunch or a late night bite.

This one doesn't even need a "for College Park" modifier when you say it's "good", and that is really saying something. Grumpy Italian owner (I think the grumpy Italian guy is the owner), amazing selection (including like 6 different kinds of vegetarian-friendly options, the Veggie Lover's is the best vegetarian slice I've ever had), delectable salads, and very friendly prices. I think I've eaten here 1/4 of the days its been open. That's too much pizza, but it's So Good that I can't say no. Plus, it's a thin-crust pizza and the ingredients seem authentic, so my waistline will probably be ok.

Not at all like NY pizza. Pizza was terribly bland. I've had more exciting pieces of white bread toast. Pepperoni was almost flavorless. Crust was uninspiring. That being said, I have had worse. Update: I tried it again (November 2013). You know, I think it is a bit dubious that all these people consistently say that it's the "Best Pizza in College Park" or something very similar. Seriously? Coincidence? I love pizza. I can tell you hands down that this is NOT the best pizza in College Park. Momma Lucia's, Ratzies, Ledo's and several others beat this place on flavor and authenticity. I'm downgrading my review to one star, and that is generous.

Meh, it's a nice setup for ease of late night eating, but it's just a college student buffet. The employees are a ball of joy. (sarcasm)

Tried to go here for lunch today. They were supposed to open at noon- they didn't unlock the door (though the open sign was on) until 12:30 even though we were standing at the door. The staff was CLEARLY not ready to open at the correct time and lost our business because of it.

This is the best New York-style pizza in College Park. Now let's be clear, this is not pizza of New York quality. BUT no pizza in College Park or Washington DC is. Pizza Autentica is not bad, but the crust is too soft. Matchbox and those places are decent but are more San Francisco gourmet style. Ledo's has its own unique Maryland thing going on. Slices is actually trying to replicate Ray's and the other New York giants. And for the DC area they are doing a good job and they offer a variety of pizzas that rivals their New York counterparts. I hope they will start delivery.

There are currently seven pizza places in College Park and I choose slices every time. I am super italian and I have really high standards for Pizza and Slices does it BEST. The first time I went there I sparked up a conversation with the owner. He is coincidentally from Avellino Italy, my grandparents home town about two hours South of Rome. I have tried most of the pizza at Slices but I keep going back for the Margarita and Mac n Cheese slices! HOLY MOSES are these two good! The only bad experience I had with this restaurant was regarding delivery. I ordered my pizza on a home game day and it was an hour and a half late and cold by the time I received it. I was super disappointed and made a complaint which resulted in my pizza being comped! So I am still giving Slices four stars for their AWESOME specialty pizza and GREAT customer service!

  • Brian C.

First time ordering from slices. Took over 1.5 hours to deliver 5 minutes down the road on a weekday. Called the restaurant and got no help from the staff, they kept insisting it was on its way and would not discount the order. All of this for 5/10 pizza.

Slices is my go-to pizza place in College Park. Pizza slices are absolutely massive. I believe the average price is $4/slide - well worth your money, if you ask me. If you have a debit or credit card, the minimum is $5 a purchase, so keep that in mind when you're eating like a piggy here. My favorite pizza here, no question, is the Mac & Cheese Pizza. It's like I'm at Cici's Pizza, minus the annoying little kids.

So happy I tried this place. Is it perfect? No, but it's the best pizza that delivers in College Park BY FAR! Tried five different pizzas so far and all have been very good. Crust is just thin enough, but not too thin that the slice doesn't hold itself up. Sauce is nice and tangy, and while a bit greasy, this is a positive that adds to the flavor. As for delivery, I've not had a problem yet, and it is 100 times better than the surly and often 30 minutes late delivery from the Hut.

Hadn't been here in months and remembered why this past Wednesday. I finished running an errand in the area and wanted something quick for lunch. A slice of cheese pizza would do the trick. I get to Slices at 12:02 p.m. and the door is locked....huh? Inside a worker sees me and comes to unlock the door. He's the only person there working. The. Only. Person. Working. During. Lunch. Hour. WTF. I ask him how much a slice is and he tells me, all while busily making pizzas. I tell him I just want a slice of cheese to go and he says, "OK," but continues making his pizzas. Then the phone rings and he's taking an order while continuing to make all these pizzas. It's an hour after the place opened at 11 a.m. and I'm thinking to myself why aren't all these pizzas already made? Anyways 4 minutes pass by and my slice of cheese has yet to go into the oven. So I tell him nevermind and I dip. Cold pizza and slow service. Thank God Blaze pizza opened up down the street...

Delivery is terrible here. I'm not really sure why they even have delivery as an option at all. Ordered delivery twice online and was contacted an hour later both times saying they can't deliver to me. I only live 4 minutes away so my location isn't a problem. Good thing college park has a shit load of pizza places.

After 3 visits, it's consistent: really great slices of pepperoni, if a little expensive, but not very good "fancy" pizzas. On the most recent visit, the pepperoni slice was crisp-crusted, fresh-tasting, with a good balance of cheese and sauce, dripping with oil. Yum. But by comparison, a meat-lovers slice was leaden and salty and not warmed all the way through, and was still sitting heavy in my stomach hours later. Considering those 2 slices were $7.40, the budget-minded should probably get a whole pizza somewhere else for only a few bucks more (and have enough for leftovers, or to share). If you're hankering for one slice, go here and get the pepperoni, but its not the place for something fancier, or for a whole meal.

The best pizza in a town, The food is absolutely amazing. The best Garlic rolls in College Park. I have been enjoying their food since they were the little place across the street. The spinach pizza Chicken Popeye is its the best Really Busy place i love it

Definitely good quality pizza, but it is on the expensive side compared to other joints near the college. Each gourmet slice is about $3.50. To their defense each slice is 1/6 of a whole pie and they do use good ingredients. My favorite was actually just the simple tomato and basil slice. My roommate loves the truffle pizza, which is good but lacked something for me.. regardless I'd come back.. need to try their Sicilian style too (majority of what they had are thin crusts) UMD STUDENTS, if you come during their happy hour, between 3 and 5 pm (I think those are the times.. need to double check), you can get pizza by the slice for a bit cheaper. I think instead of $3.50 its $3 for gourmet slices and $2 instead of $2.50 for cheese. I definitely recommend this place. In fact, I'm going to come back and buy a whole pie (stretch my $ more.. I think it's $16+ for a whole pie, and they have Monday deals)

Truffled mushroom pizza is delicious. The crust is crisp on the bottom but still slightly chewy. Reminds me a lot of many of the quickie pizza joints in most metropolitan areas, especially Mesa pizza in Minneapolis. Great variety in toppings and fast order completion. No complaints whatsoever I'd give them a five but I: a) have only ate there twice and b) as good as it is it still doesn't beat the little pizza place I found in Siloam springs, Arkansas; Fratellis

Really friendly owners, fresh ingredients, and a pretty unique flavor selection in terms of pizza. The garlic knots are delicious and my favorite slice is the Mona Lisa; the goat cheese, grilled veggies, and sweet/savory balsamic drizzle is perfect in the winter and the summer. The salad selections are usually very fresh. Try a pizza log, which is an amazing combination of pizza and a soft pretzel!

The most decent place to have a pizza when tooooo hungy in college park! Large quantities of Pizza at a very cleap rate. I guess they have a One+One every Monday!! #pizzalover

There should always be a separate checkout area for takeout orders-- especially for something like pizza. Otherwise, what's the point? When we came in, there was an open cash register, so we went there. After a little while waiting, a lady told us our pizza, which we'd ordered over the phone, was ready, but we'd have to wait to check out with everyone else. We got in a long line with everyone trying to get slices of pizza to eat there. Pretty ridiculous. The pizza was pretty good. Since it took a while, we ended up reheating it in the oven. We got a margherita, which could have used a little more basil, perhaps, but had a nice vibrant tomato sauce and slices of mozzarella. Didn't notice the olive oil that was supposedly drizzled on it.

Now The Best Pizza in College Park.*** They sell sizes as little as a slice of Pizza, all the way up to "Bulk Pizza." They have Panini's & Pretzel Logs, Party Platters & Party Pans. Salads, Sweets & Starters, Gourmet Pizza & Traditional Pizza. They're a one stop Pizza shop, on your walk home. The Problem is, is that Slice nothing to write home about, and it's real small & usually crowded. I was personally hoping for a Wise Guy or We The Pizza, level of Pizza. This place is a step below those places, which are themselves a step below The Italian Store, Pupatella, Etc. But, this is now One's best option for pizza in College Park/Hyattsville. - So say I. ***There is no outstanding pizza in College Park. Ledo's isn't pizza, it's buttery flat-bread (although delicious, under the right circumstances). Pizza Autentica & this place are about the best one could expect for NY Style Pizza in the area. And Ratsie's survives mostly on location. I'm not going to even mention the Chains. Whadda Ya Gonna Do? It's a College Town, and that means drunk late night, drunk pizza night late...and this place is open late. Considering that they've just opened on 8/29/13, they'll do great. It's 4 Star College Pizza, but only 3 stars when compared to some of the better pizza in the DMV. It's still better than any chain pizza but not as good as one would expect. Overall, Their Pizza Sauce is more sweet than salty (sometimes bland), and some of their Gourmet Pizzas fall short (buffalo chicken). Their Margherita & "Neapolitan" Pizzas are solid. They're Not too Salty and not too, too, Oily either...I guess It's not too shabby.

Slices is the best pizza in College Park in my opinion. I'm not big on the individual slices, I like to order a personal pizza so they cook it on the spot. Really good stuff.

I originally wrote a negative review of Slices because of a mix-up with my delivery. After talking to the manager at Slices, I discovered it was not their fault but rather a miscommunication with Eat24. The manager, Kyle, personally called me to apologize for the mix-up and even gave me a free pizza! Excellent customer service. Like I said in my original post, Slices is the best pizza in College Park. I'm glad the confusion with the online order got sorted out. Tip- if you're going to order for delivery, they don't deliver on Sundays or after 10 p.m. Eat24 doesn't post this on their website!

  • Kurt B.

I think this place is fantastic. The slices here are somewhere in between New York and Pittsburgh style. They have tons of slices ready, including a real "sicilian" slice, which is hard to find in DC. Most importantly the sauce is good. Simple, sweet, good complement to the cheese. Most slices are around $3, which is the perfect price. This is already easily my favorite pizza place near UMD. I'll be back often. Why can't more places figure out how to run a quality pizza storefront like this?

It's nice to see that CP has a decent place to get a slice of pizza. That said, the service is pretty ridiculous. There's no clear place to order pizza, so when we walked in there was just a jumble of people, some who had already ordered and were waiting for their pizza (right next to the counter, who does that?) and some who, like us, were waiting to order. Finally we ordered-- I had the Mona Lisa, a white pizza with some roasted veggies and a balsamic drizzle, and my brother had the mac & cheese pizza, and we both had greek salads. They have a lunch special, any slice of pizza, a small salad, and a drink for $6.99. However, the girl working the cash register didn't seem to understand that this deal existed-- she was insisting on the 7.99 price outside of lunch hours, until my brother walked down the counter to pick up one of their own fliers to show her. My slice of the Mona Lisa pizza was pretty good. I tried a bite of his Mac & Cheese, and was not a fan, but I come from the school of thought that if you want mac & cheese you should eat mac & cheese rather than adulterating pizza with it. They have all of their salads pre-mixed in big tubs and scoop out a bit for each serving, with a little tub of (generic, bottled) dressing. While I understand that this means quicker service, people are waiting for their slices to be heated up anyway. The pre-mixing of the salad left it somehow mushy and soggy.

Easily the best pizza in College Park. That said, they seem to be trying a little too hard with some of the pizzas. Case in point: buffalo chicken pizza has little bits of celery on it. Also, they are a bit pricey and could do with some deals for larger orders and such. I have used them for a number of events and the reviews from the crowd were as follows: The Mona Lisa was the favorite. The veggie lovers was not loved by the vegetarians. The Mac and Cheese was a little basic. The cowboy was a miss. The buffalo was good. The chicken Popeye was also a hit.

  • Jason T.

I'd give them zero stars if I could. $22 is expensive for a pizza, but they are pretty good. Just don't expect them to show up for the delivery. I gave up after an hour and a half, but they NEVER showed. Bye Bye Slices.

  • Timir D.

An interesting take on NY style pizza. When they first appeared they were a promising addition to the restaurant landscape in CP. Unfortunately, IMO, they have not lived up to their potential. A few reasons why I feel they could be better. 1. They removed their previous buy one get one free offer. 2. The pizzas are a bit greasy, but that is typical of this type of pizza. To their credit, the pizza is nowhere near as greasy as Mama Lucias. 3. The toppings don't seem to be as fresh as they could be. For example, I get the impression that their buffalo chicken topping comes pre-bagged. 4. The special pizza are a bit over the top, why squirt spirals of sauce on top of the pizza, good flavor should come from within (other may disagree on this point, this is just my personal opinion). I should mention that a few times mistakes have been made with my order, for example I once ordered the truffled mushroom pizza but received just a regular mushroom pizza, I can't remember how I was charged, but they probably did not charge me for the more expensive pizza. All that said, it's still a decent alternative to chain pizza which can get old.

  • Jane Z.

Quality of pizza is amazing, it's hand tossed.. Not the dough from Pizza Hut or Dominos that was taken out of a fisher price oven. I've tried Truffled Mushroom which is my favorite , along with Buffalo chicken and BBQ Chicken. Dough is original and as a New Yorker .. Must say it reminds me of my favorite Bronx style corner pizza shop. So whether you moved and miss New York pizza like I did or want to try something different just stop by Slices !

    (5)
  • Daniel K.

I'm from NJ and pizza is very important to me. I tried Ledo's, Ratsies, Pizza Kingdom and other pizza places around CP and NONE compare to Slices. It's simply the best around. I didn't eat pizza for years while attending UMD but as soon as Slices opened it gave me that NY style and flavor I was missing in my life! The other reviews that say it isn't very good are just WRONG. It is definitely a little pricey but for the size and variety of each slice makes it worth the money. Try it for yourself and you will see it is the best in CP.

    (5)
  • Lisa R.

I concur with most of what Paul D. says. It's a little bit more expensive than I would prefer for a pizza place, but it does offer a variety that other CP pizza places do not. It's not quite top notch, but it is a step above the other places regarding quality and selection. It's not really the best place to sit down and eat for a date, it's more of a quick bite and leave sort of joint. I haven't tried for delivery yet, but may soon since the other pizza selections in the area are pretty abysmal.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
