I have a mother in law from Italy. I didn't think it could get any better. I had the Penney Tutti it was great and Hugh portions you will not go home hungry. The bread with the homemade oil is great. The service is wonderful Allie was on it. We stayed at the Hampton in and it was so good last night we came back again tonight. The owner is clearly focus on the customer experience he greats everyone personally you really feel like family here this is just like a Sunday dinner at home with my mother in law except I can't get the homemade wine

It was super overpriced, took too long to arrive and didn't taste good. That's the long and short of it. We ordered delivery... three entrées and two appetizers... spaghetti with meat sauce, some chicken with white sauce and spinach, a ravioli dish, risotto balls, and mozzarella sticks. It all came to over $70, not including tip. Delivery took an hour and a half. The food itself was just bland. The only item that tasted ok was the mozzarella sticks, but the sauce that came with them was watery and had an odd taste. The same sauce came with the risotto balls, which were basically flavorless rice clumps with breading. Every single entree required doctoring from our spice rack. I obviously won't revisit this restaurant.

My daughter who attends UM recommended this place. My wife and I took her advice. My Wife had rice balls which were good but the tomato sauce for dipping was warm not hot. It needs to be hot! I ordered Chicken Parmesan. This small piece of pre-fab chicken came out with this full plate of over sauced spaghetti which looked like a hot mess. I mentioned to my wife that the chef/ cook could not be Italian serving food this way. What a waste of $50.00 bucks. I followed up the meal by calling my daughter and stating " you must be drunk when you guys come here" and you owe me $50 bucks!

My new favorite local pizza place, but ONLY ON TUESDAY nights when it's pizza night! Otherwise you'll end up dropping over 20 bucks for ONE large with three toppings... The pizza it very good, a tad on the greasy side, but the toppings are tasty and the dough is pretty good too. This has become one of our regular pizza joints!

Three stars because service is excellent, food is mediocre. My chicken Caesar was bland, pizza is seriously lacking cheese. You know it's real when your cheese pizza looks red, tomato sauce pizza should be the label.

I ordered Gamberetti Shrimp for delivery. Delivery was very prompt. The sauce was good however it could have been more flavorful. The shrimp were extremely overcooked and rubbery. I only ate about a third of the meal so needless to say it was quite disappointing at the extreme price I paid.

Very mediocre, certainly overpriced. The only reason that they are getting three stars from me is because of the pizza. It certainly doesn't stack up to any serious Italian pizza place but it does bring back fond childhood memories of stringy cheese and large slices. On a negative note, the pizza probably tastes good because its super greasy. Also it's been a bit inconsistent between visits.

If you're looking for a pizza place that serves you ounces of grease this is the place for you. I was craving a slice, decided to go to Mama Lucia for take out. What a big mistake! As you can see in my pictures my plate is full of grease, I've never had a greaser pizza in my life !!!! The guy didn't even give me napkins because he was too busy watching a soccer game. So much for "on the go pizza." Don't even get me started on their prices. $10 for 2 plain slices and 1 pepperoni. In New York I would pay 3.50 for that. Shame on you Mama Lucia !

Broad menu of Italian dishes in the $18-24 range, which seems high for the strip mall location and general lack of atmosphere. We opted for pizza, and we're totally unimpressed. Sausage, pepperoni and onion, $30 with tip. Would neither recommend nor go back....

Pizza and subs are very good. Entrées are hit or miss. Also dinner is over priced for what you get. They need to update and change their recipes for the whole chain. The NY Style pizza is good.

The stromboli I had for lunch was fantastic. Only real issue I have with this place is that the seating is a bit 'confined' for a man of my size, but that's really my fault being overweight and all. Let me tell you, though, this place doesn't make losing weight easy. I have also had their pizza and several of their pasta dishes and it's a great place. I wish they had more of an actual restaurant atmosphere instead of the lunch counteresque set up they have at the moment, but I am sure during the evenings that they provide someone to help take orders and serve food. The counter personnel could probably be a bit more friendly, but the food is really what matters. In short, excellent italian food from a relatively unknown chain.

Entrees are hit or miss, along with the service. Pizza though is always great, nyc variety so it's thin and chewy.

Good place to eat. But a bit expensive for what it is. Ravioli is one of my go too. The bread that comes with it is ok. Salad is nothing to brag about. Cannolis are pretty good. Extensive menu.

ONCE AGAIN MAMMA LUCIA DELIGHTS! Was thinking about bringing Italian seafood and pasta to Mom for Christmas Eve. So I naturally thought about M.L. Ann and I always check the special board for something interesting. This time it was a jumbo cheese ravioli with wilted fresh spinach in white wine sauce. It was amazing. From the menu we selected a seafood combination that included crab, shrimp, scallops in a pink sauce with mushrooms and asparagus. Seafood was fresh and delicious and was perfectly complemented by sauce and pasta. Both items included house salad and bread. Portions were generous enough to permit sharing among those of modest appetites. Two entrees fed the three of us that evening with plenty left over for a light lunch the next day. Thanks for getting it right again and giving Mom an excellent first impression. We will definitely bring her M.L. takeout in the future.

I set up this yelp account to give this restaurant an amazing review! I came and had the spicy marinara penne and LOVED it. This place has a large menu with such a variety of foods and I would love to come back and try the pizza if I have an opportunity to!!

Last Friday night, my family and I wanted a nice, decent bite to eat. We were deciding on Hard Times or Mamma Lucia. I still wish we had picked Hard Times. First off, the prices are incredibly expensive, particularly for the quality of food we had received. I honestly would've gotten a way better deal, and better quality, with a frozen Stouffer's meal. One of my family members decided to take her lasagna back because it had no flavor, and there was actual condensation at the top. I ordered a chicken alfredo, and let me tell you, I've had better at an Olive Garden. There was no seasoning, the chicken was old and tough and rubbery. It had absolutely no flavor. Out of curiosity, I asked the waitress if their food was pre-made, considering the condensation. She said yes, but then changed it to "Well, it's not PRE-MADE, but..." which automatically tells me that it was. Unhappy with our meal AND the price of it, I decided to speak to a manager. I told him the issue calmly and politely just to bring it to his attention, and he started yelling at me out of nowhere. I then stated that the waitress told us that the pastas were pre-made. Then he started yelling at her in front of us and everyone else in the restaurant! He was quickly defensive. All I said was okay, but then I went back and told him that he needed to work on his customer service skills, particularly if he is a manager/partial owner of this establishment. We tried to finish what we could, until the waitress came over and said that we could get complimentary desserts for our troubles. I took something just to see how it would be since they were actually offering it. That strawberry cheesecake, too, was downright awful. Our meal boiled down to $61, for two lasagnas and a chicken alfredo. We didn't give a tip. At least their ASSISTANT manager gave us the complimentary desserts, otherwise we wouldn't of gotten anything for our troubles. We didn't even want the dessert considering the food was so awful. Just give us a discount and let us go. A few hours later, every one of us got sick. As a 19 year old girl, I GENERALLY DO NOT GET SICK AT RESTAURANTS, UNLESS IT'S COLD MCDONALD'S. So this tells me a lot. Overall, I do not recommend going here, and I'm angry enough to tell everyone in the area not to eat here. Downright horrible experience.

The staff here is amazing. I've always had a great experience. Awesome customer service. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Lots of smiles! I love love love Italian food and will travel out of the way to come to this location. During my most recent visit I ordered to go. After ten minutes or so I was informed that my slice of pizza had been burnt and they were making me a WHOLE new personal sized pizza. They were super apologetic and handled it like customer service champs. Kudos to the manager for picking such a great staff! I'll always be a fan!!

Mama Lucia's is good. I am a big fan of their salad with grilled chicken and their penne a la vodka. But my favorite by far is the Veil Bolognese linguini. I usually don't eat veil, but I have made an exception for this dish. The tomato sauce they use is great, so I'm guessing the pizza and other pasta dishes they make with it are good also. Mama Lucia's is one of my top options for Italian food in the area. They have beer and wine so that's always a plus. The bread they serve is also pretty good- Italian bread, toasted, garlicly with some tomato on top.

The Salmon Rose is my absolute favorite pasta. No exceptions. I'm not a big fan of eating in at this place. I prefer to order take out instead. It's over priced in my opinion. It's over $20 for a dinner meal (pasta) which comes with a less than mediocre salad and bread that has tough crust, but a delicious center. The dinner meal is a huge portion of pasta. You'll be full halfway through, but want to finish anyway. To save a few bucks you can skip the salad and get a lunch portion, which is still plenty of food. The price is a huge deterrent for me. Otherwise, I would eat here more often. Go if you feel like treating yourself and overindulging. Mmm, carbs.

This is a solid local chain. For all you people who have hated on it, shame on you. The food is quite delicious, no matter if you get a simple pizza, salad, or one of their dinner entrees. My go to dish is their insalata di pollo - a simple mixed greens salad with onions, black olives, and the most delicious grilled chicken breast with housemade balsamic vinaigrette. I drive from the opposite side of Virginia to College Park to get this salad people, so it must be good. Yes, it's a little pricey - but it's worth it. Every time I've eaten there, I've had a delicious meal and the staff have been very attentive. Help support the college kids working there and leave them a nice tip - they work diligently for it.

Food was mediocre at best - stale garlic bread with a dipping sauce so spicy, a pepper nearly made my fiancée's throat close up. The presence of a table of 8-10 sorority girls from the nearby University of Maryland meant that our server disappeared from the time he dropped off our food until 10-15 mins AFTER we'd finished eating, stacked our dirty plates at the edge of the table, and done everything we could think of to indicate we were ready for the check, while he and several other servers doted on their table. Props to the server for giving a table on the other side of the restaurant from his section such great service, I guess.

Pizza is really good, but I was surprised at the $5 delivery fee which does not include tip for the driver. Seems really steep! I live just a mile or so away and didn't want to quit studying to go pick up lunch so I got delivery, personal sized cheese pizza and a 20 oz coke came to almost $16. Damn!

Not my favorite locations of the Mamma's chain. Big fan of their food but this one seems a little lacking in...I dunno..."niceness"? Also had my only ever bad M.L. food from this location. The Olney and SS branches rock though. Rockville good too.

Great lasagna, and good pizza. The cannoli is fantastic! The only downside is that it's a little pricey.

After leaving Applebee's in Univ Md-College Park, we found this place and was pleasantly surprised. The service was great and price was reasonable. I had the seafood pasta dish which was terrific. My friend from training/workshop had the chicken parmesan which he said it was good too. Overall, I would recommend this place.

After a long trip, the last two things you don't want delivered are cold, thick crust pizza. Well, guess what's sitting on my table in my hotel room. Probably the only reason I am writing this is that the owner insists it is "New York" style thin crust on the online menu. Unless I am missing something here, the crust is about 3/8" and is NOT thin crust. This pizza was delivered cold to my hotel; I gave the driver a tip and the total came out to $40, including salad and dessert. I can't even think about eating a pizza like this at a restaurant!

  • Greg O.

I've been to Mamma's locations in Bethesda, Silver Spring, Olney and Rockville as well as this one. They have the same offering as the other locations, and the quality tends to be consistently good. The pizza is true to the tristate area style- real pizza that can be folded! The strombolis are pretty good as well. The one place this locations falters is their selection at lunchtime. If you are willing to wait, you can get anything you want, but they typically have very slices ready to go, or any other options ready. So if you you are looking for quick take-out, its not always the best option.

No one should expect Mamma Lucia in College Park to be a high-end dining establishment. The staff isn't trying to do it - but they are trying to make it your favorite local Italian joint. I believe they succeed. The staff is friendly and treats you like a regular even if you're not. It's very kid-friendly, clean, good sized portions. Waitstaff is attentive but not overly so - they are visible and look for eye contact in case you require anything and check in about twice once the food has arrived to see how you are doing. Quick with check and payment. We usually get pasta dishes and I find them to be well made, flavorful. The pizza is New York style - thin, foldable, savory. They have beer and wine - not a huge selection, but a decent variety. Entrees come with garlic bread, which reminds me of Texas Toast from the freezer section of the grocery store, and your choice of salad and dressing. The only complaint I can think of is that when we order pizza as a kids meal it comes out steaming hot and on an even hotter plate. It would be nice if they considered who the meal was for and stuck it in the fridge for a moment or at least put it on a cool plate. We have never tried take-out, but do find Mamma Lucia to be a great choice for a casual dinner place that is more enjoyable and more memorable than national chains. Consistently delicious food and good service!

Service was prompt, staff friendly, and delicious fresh food. They were very accommodating to our needs. Called in from the metro after long day sightseeing. Showed up with a bunch of hungry kids just after 9pm. Ordered 2 large pepperoni pizza pies.

Came across this place by accident and discovered it's heavenly pizza. Though I live in DC, I trek up to Mamma Lucia's every so often so I can have what I believe is the best pizza in the DC area. Wish I could say something about their meals other than Pizza, but I am stuck on how good it is.

I'm new to the area. I've been looking for a good NY-style pizza. I think I've found a winner! It's not the best pizza I've ever had, but it beats 99% of the pizza places out there. They were friendly to me when I went in (I just got a pizza for take out - I didn't dine in). Make sure to take advantage of the Tuesday night carryout special (2nd pizza is $3 I think). I'm glad to have found a nearby pizza place!

    (4)
  • Niket R.

Please note that the only items I've tried from Mama Lucia have been pizzas and veggie subs. Their slices may resemble NY-style slices in appearance, but they certainly do not taste like a true NY slice. However, I've come here with my mom once and shared a white pizza, which was quite good (far better than the slices). The veggie subs (not on the menu) that I've requested have been hit or miss; I've asked for grilled veggies and cheese. A couple times the subs were great and other times they tasted pretty bland. I'll bet that the difference in taste must have been rooted in the way the bread was prepared.

Great food - great service - great atmosphere! Best of all - casual enough that our 15 month old son wasn't a distraction to those around us because of its family friendly atmosphere. We will be visiting again soon!

Their pizza is absolutely first-rate, with crisp-chewy flavorful dough and dead-on seasoning, plus high quality toppings. It's also a bargain, particularly on pizza special nights (used to be Tuesdays, but check). My family has also dined there several times on their seafood and other entrees. They are priced in the mid-$20s but worth it. The staff was very attentive and helpful whenever I visited.

The hands-on, super-friendly staff at ML's make the dining experience a fun and enjoyable one, esp. for larger groups. We were in a mega-party of 15+ and had a small portion of the place to ourselves. The pasta and pizza dishes are wholesome and flavorful without surprises. The wine and beer offerings are Italy-centered and compliment the simple but satisfying foods on offer. This is a nice stop for those who are not put off by shopping center atmosphere and pretty straightforward meal service. Our pizza lasted for three meals, each as tasty (if not more so) than at the restaurant! Very good for families and kids.

Unfortunately, my fiance and I didn't come here for their specials, but we were satisfied with the large dinner portion rare among the better restaurants these days. You buy a dinner and it includes thick slices of tomato-herbed bread and the accompanying herbed garlic dipping sauce and a side salad with a balsalmic viniagrette for starters. My rigatone norcina was well-spiced and reasonably salted from the cream sauce and spicy sausage (both very bad for my diet) and my fiance's pollo alla siciliana was very tasteful. Just thinking about the place is making me drool over my leftovers - can't wait to go to work just to have them for lunch! And don't forget: Monday night special (dine-in or carry-out) - buy one pasta dish and get the 2nd one of equal or lesser value for $3.99 Tuesday night special (carry-out only) - buy one large pizza and get the second one for only $1.99

I've been going to Mamma Lucia's in College Park for 8+ years but my wife and I agreed that we're not going back there anymore. For a restaurant that asks for $13 for a bowl of pasta and $26+ for entrees and specials, they're just not cutting it. A couple of points from our last visit: ** My daughter's cheese pizza was so cardboardy and flavorless that she ate one piece and stopped. We took the rest home and it sat in our fridge until we finally just threw it out. ** The wait staff kept dragging wooden chairs around on the tile floor, obviously making a lot of loud noise right next to our table, until we finally had to ask them to pick up the chairs to move them. ** I asked the server to add a "bit of cream" to my meatball pasta and, without flagging it to me beforehand, they added $3 to the bill for that. When I complained to the server, she said that the manager told her to add the charge and that I'd have to talk to him about it. So I waited several minutes (most of my family was outside by this time) for him to get around to talking to me about the stupid charge. At this point, the fact that this location gets patronized at all is a testament to how desperate people in College Park are for some decent restaurants.

  • Dak F.

I give Mama Lucia College Park 4 stars because this is the best slice of pie south of Hoboken (where the best is found at Benny Tudino's). The entrees, however, are average and overpriced. I cant' speak to the other locations. Oh, and Rob S. and Anne M. are on dust, or maybe Ledo's.

Happy to have found a local shop for good pizza. They were tossing the fresh dough while we watched -- thank goodness no rolling pin or frozen slabs of crust! I had an amazing antipasto salad (took half of it home) with a very balsamic-heavy dressing (this was a good thing!!). Others had meat stromboli and pepperoni/sausage pizza. Tried the fried risotto balls, and they were good too. Will definitely be back. The pasta dishes going by looked tempting, but my New Yorker husband will probably never have anything but pizza. Best 'za we've found in DC!

Over priced and the food is horrible! the sause was cheap and lacked flavor. I don't know what they are trying to pass on as italian food these days, it was just gross. Also! my bf and I had upset stomachs hours following this disgusting meal! NEVER wasting my money there again

I used to come to this place while attending UMCP for stromboli and the occasional pizza. During lunch hour expect to get a decent slice of pizza or a stromboli for a good price. Price- decent Taste- good enough Service- Pretty good. It's a really cool atmosphere during the lunch hour. They will yell at you if you don't get you're food "It'll get cold, come get you're slice!!!!!"

love the bread and love the salmon rose, i love their rose/pink sauce so i always get the salmon rose or gamberetti alla montese. once i tried to get something different and got fettucine alla bolognese, it smelled like feet, never veered away from my rose dishes ever again. the tomato chunks in the salmon rose are soooooo good. i loved them even when i was a complete carnivore and didn't dare touch any veggies let alone tomatoes. go before dinnertime so its a lot cheaper!

They are a pricey (for what you get) local chain so we usually come for the Monday pasta special or Tuesday pizza special. Don't bother paying for extra cheese on your pizza because they charge you extra for what you should have gotten in the first place. Otherwise, pizza is great NY/Jersey style, and I am an expert.

Mamma Lucia's is a small chain of restaurants (7 spots) located in various parts of Maryland just north of DC (Bethesda, Silver Spring, College Park, Rockville, Olney, Frederick) My first review for the College Park location is wow... I'm glad I never ate at the other locations. In contrast to the abysmal ratings that some of the other locations received, this Mamma Lucia's served me well through years of college and easily became my favorite pizza joint around UMCP. The place is an informal pizza place during the day (grab your own slice and drink), but gets more formal at night with the addition of tablecloths and wait staff (they grab your slice and drink). I never had a problem with either mode. The staff was always very friendly and with the frequency that I came into the place, they would always give me a warm welcome and knowing nods. The food... well I have to say I was boring and got pizza 99.9% of the time. It was just too good, how could I not? The cheese pizza (or "plain" pizza) could easily hold it's own, but what I enjoyed were the toppings. Getting peppers on your pizza meant you'd get long strips of sliced pepper, not just undercooked green and red confetti as is the case with most other places. The sausage topping was also equally good, with large slabs of sausage that had been sliced length-wise, as opposed to the small, crumbly bacon-bit-esque quality of typical sausage topping. The other 0.1% that I'd order from the menu was the fried calamari. They'd give you large chewy chunks that were always breaded well. I've been to high price Italian restaurants that didn't have calamari this good (pieces too small = too much surface area = too much breading). The drink menu consists of sodas, a couple wines and a couple beers (Stella of course). I give this place 4 stars simply because I can't vouch for the rest of the menu. The pizza is fantastic, but I haven't a clue how the rest of it might fare. Unlike the other locations though, I'd give this one a visit.

Good pizza, almost authentic pasta dishes. Great for any meeting place with friends, family. I notice they also do parties as well. My favorite pasta dish is the Fettucini Bolognese.

Good pizza, but not quite the best I've had.. sorry for the 4 stars but it could be better if it was actually hot ( I mean oven fresh HOT) and wasn't quite as expensive..

A bit pricey for what you get - good helping but not the best flavorful food. I've eaten here a few times - seems very cafeteria(ish) Good helping but i can make most of their pastas at home from the ingrediants i can get next door at shoppers. nice servers usually.. good service.

Growing up Italian in central New Jersey great pizza was everywhere and a main staple of your diet (if not a 6th food group). When I moved to Maryland for college, I began to lose hope that I'd have another good slice until I went home for the holidays...until I went to Mama Lucia's (in College Park). During the daytime hours the place is more casual - you pick up your orders at the counter and serve your own drink. However at night , they add tablecloths, wait staff, and dim the lights to make the atmosphere more romantic and formal (though jeans are still appropriate). Though this a a chain of restaurants (there are 7 overall in MD), the food at this location is fantastic. Most of my visits there were for pizza, and though I'm partial to the plain cheese, they make a great sausage and green pepper pizza that everyone should try. They also make a great fried calamari appetizer that is the best I've had anywhere. The staff is very friendly, and by the time I was a senior at UMCP, they could guess my lunchtime order. They always gave guests a warm welcome and were truly accommodating and polite. If you're in the area, it is worth checking out. For a casual date night the atmosphere is great and the price is very reasonable.

This is the first Italian restaurant that I tried on my five days vacation to the east coast. My pasta was delicous because the prawns were not overcooked. Our server was very friendly and polite although she was confused at some point (jokes). I like the enviroment of the restaurant, very welcoming and cozy in the winter season. Above all, it was my friends' company that made my dining experience here "fantastic". I will definitely come back here again in the future.

hands down, the best pizza in the DC area. i was literally addicted to this pizza in college, and then refused to move anywhere after graduation that didn't have a mamma's (bethesda, luckily, had one in walking distance of my apartment, where i quickly became a regular, going there an inappropriate amount of times per week). i now live in new york, and there is only one pizza place i've found that i would rather eat at than mamma's (di fara's in brooklyn). that being said, whenever i visit DC, its the first place i go. I don't know what it is about the pizza at mamma's that is so addictingly excellent, but i'm a sucker for good cheese and i'm pretty sure that's where the magic is. the sauce isn't overwhelming, there's a perfect amount (i despise too much sauce, ew), and the crust, although some may say its too doughy/chewy, is absolutely delightful. ahh, just thinking about this pizza makes me want to hop a flight to DC right now. i had to give it 5 stars because it helped me through so many hard times in my 2 yrs post-college, usually having to do with boys being d-bags (yes, you guessed it, i tend to be an emotional pizza eater). also, this is the one thing that kept me from ever sticking to a no-carb diet. F those diets anyway. eat pizza. my recommendation is the plain cheese, its mouthwateringly good, and if you wanna get crazy, my 2nd fave is the white pizza with pepperoni, ricotta and black olives. seriously - the perfect companion when you've had a tough day, or to celebrate a good day. or even if its just a mediocre day and you feel like making it a great day. moral of the story is, you really can't go wrong, ever. people sometimes think i have a pizza problem. i don't think its a problem at all, i think its fucking fantastic. perhaps i'll open a franchise in NYC? brain is ticking...stay tuned

I quite like mama lucias. I am a huge fan of the house salad, I absolutely adore the house dressing. I am also a big fan of the pizza. I would have to say it's definitely the better pizza as far as a chain restaurant is concerned. However, the delivery service is seriously lacking. I understand that offering a delivery service is new, however, it needs some type of overhaul because it frequently is late. For example, today I ordered pizza at 6:20 and they told me 45 min to an hr, an hr and a half later, the pizza arrives cold. I also am aware that the pizza was in the delivery car for at least 40 minutes because at around 7:10 the delivery driver called asking for a cross street (i live 10 min away) and did not knock on my door until 7:50. Again, love the food, love going to the restaurant, and occasionally, the delivery service arrives within that hr window, however, more often than not it is well outside and cold.

I didn't have the pasta, so I can't comment on that. The pizza was substandard. The sauce is unseasoned tomato sauce. The crust tastes chewy and stale. The restaurant was not very busy and service is still slow. I'm not sure how others could possible give this place a good review. Maybe they haven't experienced good pizza yet.

Good pizza! According to my husband (a New Yorker) it's the best pizza in Maryland.

The pizza was below substandard. You would get better food from the university dining halls a mile down the road.

Ordered a pepperoni, sausage and green pepper pizza, and not only was it flavorless, but it actually tasted bad. And it was way overpriced. Huge disappointment-- how do you make such a basic pizza taste bad?!

I've been eating at Mama's for 15 years--first at the one on Rockville Pike, then at this one after my job threw me into the food wasteland of the White Oak Research campus. For several years, a group of us would go here at least every other week for really good pizza and pretty decent pasta dishes for lunch. One main reason was it was both delicious and fast--walk in, place your order at the counter, and you had your pizza in 5 minutes and your pasta in less than 15 mins. But suddenly, about six months ago, they stopped doing the walk-up ordering for anyone eating on premises. Now, you have to wait to be seated, wait on the waiter to take drink orders, wait for him to bring the drink orders, place your order with the waiter, wait again for bread, then wait for your meal, which seems to take forever. They went from a place where I could reliably leave my office, drive there, eat and be back in less than an hour, to a place I can't consider unless it's a slow day at work and I know being gone 90 mins will not be a big deal--which is rare. So I'm going to say food is 4 stars, the new lunch regime is 2 stars.

I just wanted Dinner for the night and choose pizza tonight. I love in the area and tried this place for the first time. I will make it short and to the point it was the worst pizza I have had in my life. I never will go here again or recommend this place to anyone. How hard is it to make pizza ??

My visits to the DC greater area are usually about sampling food so I tend to leave pizza out of it. Our late arrivals have forced us into some poor decisions regarding pizza. I'm happy to report that Mamma Lucia became the first exception. The pizzas were quite good and ready pretty fast for pickup. We had a meat lovers pizza and a white vegetarian one. Both were very good. The service was very friendly and they had a large menu to choose from. Thankfully we just beat the crowd getting out of a football game or else it would've been pretty full. There was plenty of seating but I might think of calling ahead (especially on game days). It's located in a large shopping center so there is plenty of parking. We'll definitely try it out again next time we are in the area and craving some pizza.

If you want a fancy Italian restaurant with so so food...... don't come here! BUT if you want a family environment with awesome food and a great TEAM of people serving you and cooking for you.....GO STRAIGHT HERE! Whether it's Michael making you a stellar pizza, Saul making the BEST Caesar salad, or Milton cooking your meal to order.... the food and fellowship here will keep you coming back! My ONLY complaint? That there not located in Alexandra near me!! Ask Jimmy for the Jo's special and give him a wink...... it's a special order crab Alfredo and is to die for!!

Traveling from Baltimore to Richmond, and my husband decides he wants Italian. After some trial and error with the gps, we find this place. I was skeptical at first, because the decor is minimalist, and you have to go to the counter to order, which is rarely a good sign in my experience. And then the cost was higher than I'd been planning on. All skepticism disappeared when the calamari arrived. It was fried perfectly, the serving was huge, and it was delicious. We also had mozzarella stcks. Same story. And the bread served with oil and spices was terrific. The main course was fantastic. My husband had penne with sausage, middle son had spaghetti with meat sauce, youngest son had chicken fettuccine alfredo, and I had a dish I don't remember the name of, with chicken topped with crab and mozzarella in a cream sauce over fettuccine. It was amazing. All of us were thrilled with the meal, and none of us could finish. All of us are looking forward to the leftovers. My husband went to the chef as we were leaving to tell him that everything we put on our mouths was delicious, and the chef gave him two gift certificates. My husband explained we weren't local, and the chef said, "Those will encourage you to come back." We certainly will.

Do not get pizza with toppings I had sausage peppers and mushrooms and the peppers were hard and the sausage flavor was off. Being a New Yorker I dip in blue cheese so get a plain pizza and dip in their great blue cheese. Cesar salad is very good and the wings are above average (BBQ). The free bread is great. The first time I went there and the owner was yelling at his workers and was a bit turned off by that. He has a very arrogant attitude towards most as I observed him every time I go. If you go you know who he is. The prices are very high for pizza and pastas and the quality does not meet the price. I do go back for the bland plain pizza and blue cheese only because the options around here are minimal.

Went here with some friends for the first time this weekend. Décor left a bit to be desired, rather a bland cafeteria atmosphere. However, our server was very good, he was attentive without being an overbearing pain. As other posters have noted, some of the seating is a bit cramped, esp. the booths at the end of each row, and we're not very large. We moved to another booth in the middle of the row, those were a bit more spacious. As for the food? We all got different entrees', everything was pretty good (could've used a bit more herbs/spices, but that's personal preference) - I felt prices were a bit high for what we got. All in all - a nice dining experience and if I come here more often - which I probably will, to try other entrees' - I may up my rating to 4 stars.

I'm only giving this 3 stars because of our awesome waiter. It was his first day. I think his name was Sebastian. I've had their pizza once and it was really good. However, they must be only kmiwn for pizza because the food isn't good at all. While waiting for our food to prepare it was a group of ladies sitting behind us and I overheard them complaining about their entrée and that he had no flavor. I was highly disappointed actually after receiving my meal.

Overall Verdict - Pizza here is ALMOST as good as it gets, but definitely as good as it gets in College Park; Expensive as far as pizzerias go; "semi-thin, slightly greasy" New York style; I order mine "heavy/double sauce" because they standardly use too little. ___ Mamma Lucia's is the best pizzeria in College Park but it is also a tad expensive qua pizzerias. I would give it 4 or maybe 4 1/2 stars, but since there is absolutely nothing that comes close in College Park and DC in general has such bad pizza, I think 5 stars is warranted. Here are some of your other choices in College Park. But order from Mamma Lucia's if you can afford it, otherwise I'd suggest Three Brother's as a cheaper but lesser alternative: "Fancy, wood-oven" Neapolitan: * Pizza Autentica - POOR; You should avoid seeking out the "high-end" style of pizza in a dump like College Park. Pizza Autentica is pretending to be high-end to an undergrad clientele who don't know better; it's high-end neapolitan pizza done extremely poorly. If Pizza Hut (which I like for generic chain-pizza) tried to offer a "fancy, authentic Italian pizza" this would be it the result. If you want neapolitan pizza you'll need to go outside of College Park; try somewhere downtown DC or Silver Springs. * Ledo's - POOR; beware pizzerias that have to rely on "fun, qwerks" to distract you from the bad pizza like how Ledo's serves its pies square and on [explicative] cafateria trays. Last time I went I ordered one of the entrees just to avoid their pizza, which wasn't any better than store-bought, frozen lasagna. New York Style pizza (Thin, a bit greasy, etc.): * Mamma Lucia Pizza & Pasta - EXCELLENT; A tad expensive, but there aren't many options for good pizza in College Park. I tend to ask for extra sauce, which I am not sure if it's a personal preference or if they objectively should have more sauce. Either way: best pizza in or near College Park and they have a pizza deal on Thuesdays! * Three Brother's - Good; It's my cheaper back-up to Mama Lucia's. For the lower price, it's often a battle between my wallet and my taste-buds whether I order from Mama Lucia's or Three Brothers. Ratsie's - Poor, but tolerable; I ordered from here when I wasn't in the mood for generic chain-franchise pizza but hadn't yet discovered Three Brothers or Mama Lucia. Theire pizza is a bit better when you order a whole pie than by the slice. Generic chain-restraunt pizza (Pizza Hut, Papa John's, etc.): * Fox, Pizza Boli, Papa John, Pizza Hut, Domino - Nothing special about any of these places, but sometime's you want generic chain pizza. No harm in that. I rotate through this list when I am in the mood for pizza of this unique "type". Other: Never been to Pizza Roma, but I've been dreading the prospect; they both seem like unpleasant experiences. It's been too long since I've had Dumm's Pizza, so I can't comment other than to point out that my experience with it didn't lead me to order again and it obviously wasn't memorable. tl;dr - Order from Mamma Lucia (best, expensive) or Three Brother's (good; cheaper) for New York style pizza, otherwise go chain-restraunt pizza or move out of College Park. If you want the sort of neapolitan pizza like that served by Pizza Authentica, then go to nicer areas like downtown DC or Silver Springs.

Returned for a leisurly Saturday afternoon lunch. Only table seated in the restaurant. Food was OK, but line cook completely forgot to cook my wife's entree and our appetizer, so these came out much later than expected. The entire staff was too busy watching soccer on the TV. Service here is consistent -- needs improvement!

Mama Lucia is always a good choice. I've only had one bad experience with them through GrubHub where my order was not sent to the restaurant. Once this was corrected, the food was sent as quickly as possible to me and I was given a 20% discount on that order. The food is always great. 10/10 - would buy again.

Had ordered 2 large pizzas tonight for dinner. The sauce is very good. The crust was a bit tough. Toppings were plentiful. Had pepperoni, mushrooms & black olives. Plus added extra sauce. Think it needed a bit more cheese. The other was sausage n pineapple. Pretty good. Also we bought on Tuesday, so it was buy one get one for $2.99. Even tho it was a great deal, don't think we'd buy here again. Oh but the wings was good.

Though Italian is never our first choice, when we do venture out for it, this place e is close by and always excellent. While I'd prefer not to be greeted by a hostess wearing leggings and flip-flops, she was friendly enough. Service is efficient, pleasant and the food is excellent-pizza, spaghetti with meat sauce, veal, salads are all good. Nothing special was offered when we told the waiter it was our daughter's birthday, so that was disappointing. The bread is crappy-as noted by another reviewer. The decor is pretty bad, but it is in a strip mall anchored by a Shoppers and Best Buy.

This place is probably my least favorite of the several Mamma Lucias I've been to. Their garlic bread, while free, was not thin and crispy and delicious like I've come to expect from the other locations, and the ambiance is a little less classy and a little more fast casual, which I guess follows since you're in College Park. Still, it's a good all-around pizza and pasta place right next to the beltway exit.

When I walked in I thought this was going to be a good authentic Italian dinner I could carry out on a rainy day. The guy working the register looked like his name could be Sal, you could see the cooks back there Tony and Vinny making things happen. (Yeah I'm stereotyping, but in a good way) I just knew this was going to be a good home-style Italian meal. I can't even think of the fancy name for the dish, but it was supposed to be chicken with hot Italian peppers in a white wine sauce over spaghetti. The special for $12, I also ordered a side salad with Balsamic vinaigrette dressing and French bread. Sounds good right? First off, the noodles were DRRRYYY, there was no sauce visible, a chicken breast that was not even cut up, laid on top of a pile of pasta and sliced sausages. Both the chicken breast and the sausage had a good flavor, but where was the creamy white wine sauce? D*mn it! That ain't right! The salad had one cherry tomato and one black olive, the dressing was literally vinegar and oil, but not the good stuff you get at restaurants. The bread was buttered, but was hard and tough like a sponge that had dried in the sun after you've finished washing your car. It was BEYOND CHEWY; actually would've made a good garlic flavored toy for someones dog. I got GOT! Ya, hear G-O-T for $20. I'm fully convinced Mama Lucia was in the back with her feet up and fell asleep while Vinny and Tony put this makeshift meal together. It's done. It's over. The only Italian mom I trust is from my childhood, Mama Celeste.

So the pizza gets a four, but the other food? Not so much. We went one night and ordered zucchini sticks and chicken saltimboca. It was a lot of food, but none of it was outstanding. The batter fell off the zucchini sticks and lacked taste. The chicken was flavorful but a little salty. the chicken was also extremely thin, as if it had been pounded. The pasta, well, it was a side of pasta. In the future, we will stick with pizza. In terms of service, it's hit or miss. Our server the first time was great. This time, the waiter was more interested in getting the hostess' number than getting a generous tip. (And I'm pretty certain she wasn't interested.) Another server actually had to get our check for us. Mama Lucia has great pizza, but it certainly is not an authentic Italian restaurant.

I think here many times and have no problem awarding 4 stars as a restaurant. That includes fine dining establishments. I would rate College Park Momma Lucia 5 stars if I use the scale just for pizza joints. They have the same excellent pizza as other Momma Lucia restaurants. I have had fish specials that were outstanding. Fresh fish which they will cook to your order-I can't stand having my fish overcooked. Today I had the Greek salad with grilled chicken. Healthy and absolutely delicious. Tip: 2 could easily split this (it comes with 2 pieces of garlic toast) for lunch.

You really can't beat the Monday special. I think it's buy one pasta entree get the other for 3.99. We come here sometimes and with the salad/bread, we have enough leftover pasta for lunch the next two days as well. The carbonara is awesome.

I come here fairly often, because I am a fan of Spaghetti, and there are not many good Italian restaurants in the immediate College Park area. I feel like their pastas are pretty hit or miss. Though not either way extremely. Some are better than others (like the Chicken Parmesan on Spaghetti and Marinara sauce was superb), and others are okay, but I would not say top notch. They are a bit pricey, but my friend was very happy with her mussel & pasta dish, and complimented me on the restaurant choice. During lunch, it is an order-at-the-counter-then-sit restaurant, and for dinner, they have table covers and waitresses to come take your order.

Average Italian, which wouldn't be so bad, but it's way overpriced. Most of the pasta dishes are about $18 and should be more like $12. It's ok, just not worth what they charge. I've eaten here probably 10 times. If we're in this shopping center my wife likes to go here because she can get a salad. The staff has mostly been nice. I prefer the Hard Times next door.

Ive heard such good things about this place and was really excited to try it but I think i ordered the wrong dish :/ I got a pasta in white sauce (Alfredo) and it was greasy and bland.. I may have to give this place a try (on another persons dime) and try their pizza or spaghetti. On the bright side the people were super friendly, the decor was cute and quaint, the bread was delicious and the salad was great.

I came here in August with my parents after a long day of shopping at Ikea. We were very hungry and not picky. Most food would have satisfied but not this place. We ordered salads, pasta and pizza and nothing was good. The lettuce and toppings in my salad looked old and it was summer - this food should have been fresh. Unacceptable. The pizza and pasta were both tasteless. After bringing home most of the pizza we were able to improve on the day old pie with italian seasoning. We were the only customers in the joint but they were careless enough to not put any seasoning on our food. This chain is all over the area and I will never return to any of their locations.

I'm from the tristate area.. and i'm use to tristate/ny pizza.. and i've been told by many many other's that Mamma lucia's the closest.. but i don't taste it.. i just don't get it.. the pizza is ok, but for the price, it should be AMAZEBALLS.. but it's not. just ok. They do use fresh ingredients and i'm glad they finally do delivery, but it really isn't any place to rave about.

I hit up the College Park Mamma's due to my intended dinner target's elongated holiday closing (Alario's Pizzeria) as I promised the wife Pizza Night. I went in at about 9:00pm on this cold Monday night to find about 15 staff and no customers. The host was very polite and directed me to the carry out counter and a very cold cardboard cut-out of an employee. He took my order and sent me on my way to kill 20 minutes. Went to the nearby grocery store to kill some time, came back and only had to wait a couple of minutes more before a piping hot pizza was ready for me. an 18-inch pizza with two toppings for 20 bucks isn't the cheapest pie in the world, and Mamma's is far from my favorite joint but its certainly better than Papa Johns, Domino's, or Pizza Hut for sure. For 27 years I've been eating pepperoni and extra cheese pizza. Its what us Campbell's do. I can safely say that in all of my time, I've never REALLY noticed a significant amount of extra cheese. This pie had more cheese on it than the state of Wisconsin. It was definitely what the doctor ordered: Good pizza for two, with leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. That said, I've had better food and service at it's Rockville location. Star deductions for higher price, poor counter etiquette, and an odd bodily aroma around the host station that was far from spaghetti and meatballs and garlic bread.

I think 3.5 stars is a perfect rating for this place (the current overall star rating). I'd give it 4 but as I contemplate my experience there, I'd place it a t just slightly above average, not great. Service was good. I was impressed that multiple staff members greeted us upon arrival and then thanked us for coming as we left. It did make me feel more welcomed. Our server was fine throughout the meal, very average. The only hitch was at the end of the meal we were anxious for our check and we noticed her standing around talking, which did detract from the experience a little since we wanted to have a quick meal and leave promptly. We ordered two 14 inch pizzas for four people and it was definitely enough food. My boyfriend also had a small salad which was very basic. Their bread, which has spices and is accompanied by dipping oil, was tasty. The pizza was pretty good. It wasn't greasy at all which was pleasing. Hey, it wasn't New Haven pizza, but I was hungry and it was filling and flavorful. Our bill was around $50 for four people which I thought was acceptable. They have entrees and several specials listed, which sounded very good, but I thought their prices were a bit steep for those menu items (around $25 for many dishes). I've said it before in my other reviews, I don't think their ambiance, which was casual, fits that price tag. I would not order a $25 meal unless I know it's going to be exceptional or I feel like I'm paying for a total "experience" which for me would include a more elegant setting. If I return to Mama Lucia's, I'd personally just stick with the pizza.

Wanting to try out different restaurants in the College Park area and after hearing good things about Mamma Lucia (in a different location), I decided to try it out. Pasta turned out to be okay. It was nothing fantastic. My friend had a veal and crabmeat meal, he said it was just alright. The cooks are amusing though. Since you can see and hear what is going on back there, you would expect them to be more discreet right? Well, we heard verbal fights in spanish and door slamming. I guess, it became a more interesting experience. Oh, and if you are going here with a group make sure to tell the waiter/ waitress that you want a split check. They can do it as long as you tell them before you order.

A nice non-chain Italian restaurant. I eat here fairly often, and am never disappointed. Try one of their ever changing daily specials, or go for one of their many traditional Italian dishes. Portions are large, the staff is friendly, and it's not Olive Garden or Carrabba's. Bene, bene, molto bene! Try it out and enjoy!

The pizza is far and away the best thing on the menu, but everything else is average Italian. It tastes even more average when you get the bill...way overpriced. I still would recommend to anyone looking for good pizza, but be prepared to pay well over 20$ for one pie.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
