Went for lunch for the first time today. Prices were reasonable and service was quick. Was very clean and not loud. I had the "mango sunrise" roll and the "no name" roll. Mango sunrise combines the shrimp taste and sweetness of mango and the sauce very well. The no name roll was very filling. It comes with crab meat topped over the sushi. It's quite creamy so you could order it with something spicy on the side for balance. Overall, quality sushi and affordable prices! Definitely will be back :)

Their sushi is a 3/5. Very Americanized though so covered in sauces. I particularly like them because they will substitute meat for tofu. One star rating because I just went in there and a man (manager I assume since the woman ringing me up called him over) was yelling about me to the woman. They thought I had called twice and ordered sesame tofu & avocado roll then called back and ordered a sushi deluxe. He was trying to get me to pay for the mistake, kept saying I called back and ordered it, showed the woman and read a phone number off which wasn't mine, then started yelling in Japanese. It was really embarrassing. As much as i assured him I called once (about to show him my phone) and that I'm actually a vegetarian and don't even eat fish he just kept at it. It was super obnoxious. Now that I reflect, it was pretty funny. At the time it was just absurd and frustrating.

Definitely our favorite sushi spot in the area! Prices are reasonable and the food is always delicious! For sushi, we are big fans of the Perfect Fantasy roll! Honestly, we have yet to try a roll that isn't great from here! My boyfriend is a HUGE fan of their General Tso's and swears that it is the best he's had around the Baltimore area. He says it is always nice and crisp with a great flavor. I love the Chicken Pad Thai. I use to order this a lot back where I am from at a local Thai restaurant and have never found anything comparable to it in many places along the east coast. Umisake is pretty much spot on with my favorite dish back home. I was SOOOO happy that I ordered it on a whim here. I order it almost every time we dine here. Keep up the great work!
(5)David L.
Everything is good , except the crispy chicken is little bit salty ,hoping they do the change that , nice dinning room , nice workers you can found here !bathroom is clean ! The price here is reasonable ! They do Chinese food too ! So really not bad !
(4)Sarah J.
By far the best sushi around. The other places aren't bad but, if you're trying to decide and are in the mood for some rolls, Umi Sake blows all the others away.
(4)Lilia D.
Coming from sushi crazy California I would think I know a thing or two about sushi and this place blows away even some of my usual local spots. Fresh fish and creative rolls that don't all have to be deep fried makes this place now a must eat at spot when I come to town. I've been craving sushi all week and I am not disappointed. Who knew a little place like this in a little town would satisfy my Cali girl craving.
(4)Nicholas S.
This has to be the best sushi place I have ever been to anywhere the service is great and though I have been here over 20 times and ordered different stuff each time I have never once been dissatisfied or disappointed the Crunchy Triple Nine and Scallop Dynamite are personal favorites but I think everything is great if you like sushi you owe it to yourself to try this joint out.
(5)Emily K.
I had the absolute best experience at this place! I'm so glad I checked some Yelp reviews before ordering, because you people know what you're talking about! The "No Name" is literally so perfect that they weren't even able to put a name to it, because no name that could possibly be created in the English language is deserving enough of being paired up with this delicious roll. It comes with a creamy crab sauce spread over the entire sushi. The sauce alone is delicious, so when paired with the shrimp, crabmeat and avocado (seriously, avocado makes everything better) it's absolutely perfect. Try it. Honestly I feel like I passed out and went to heaven for a short period of time. The "Mango Sunrise" was the sweetest of the three. It tastes like sunshine and fresh air stuffed inside a roll with a side of sweet mango. Considering it's size, it seriously packs a punch. The perfectly tempura covered shrimp goes great with the slice of delicious mango and sweet sauce on the top. The last roll we ordered was one we were still wavering on but our server, Henry assured is that because of the distinct contrast between the first two rolls we ordered, we would love it. Henry was right. Thank God for Henry! It was called the "Maui Waui." The name alone made me love it -- so fun! But the shrimp and crab meat alongside eel sauce, avocado and green onions made for a great roll. Granted, it was my least favorite of the three -- but that's just because nothing compares to No Name. Overall, I would rate the rolls in the exact order I wrote them. No name being the best, mango sunrise being a close second, and maui waui finishing in last -- but of course not least. The food was definitely higher up on the sushi scale, in comparison to small Mom-and-Pop style restaurants. The atmosphere was great too -- not as sleek and fun as RA Sushi however. Now go indulge in these delicious rolls! You'reeeee welcome ;)

You know when you read something or hear something and you have such high hopes for it? For example someone wrote about the No Name roll. Looking at this roll and reading about it makes it sounds amazing. However it was mushy, slightly dead fish smelling (I realize it's sushi) and full of shells. Interesting in theory but altogether NOT worth the money. I found the spicy yellowtail with the spicy bbq sauce more tasty but not very good either. Oh well
(2)Nandi A.
Outstanding sushi! Everything was so fresh but was gone before I could take a pic. The staff was very friendly and prompt. Can't wait to go back!

Love, love, LOVE this place!!! My husband and I stumbled across this place when we were trying out sushi places in Cockeysville (where we were living at the time). We came in and tried a few rolls (all of which were great) but we've finally settled on our favorite rolls; the No Name roll and the Mango Sunrise roll. Hands down those are the best rolls we've tried thus far! We considering trying the M&M roll today so I may have to update this review. So your probably wondering why 4/5 stars after such rave reviews right? Unfortunately we came here with a group of friends after a hot yoga session and after we ate sushi, we ordered ice cream for dessert. One of the women in our party was not happy with the flavor ice cream and decided to ask for a different flavor. Not only was her request ignored but the manager came over and told her that nothing was wrong with the ice cream and they would not remove it from the bill. We were embarrassed because we picked Umisake as the dining destination after yoga and unfortunately I think they will be lost customers for life :-(

I've been here a couple of times now. Each time the place has been nearly filled to capacity and usually a small wait. The sushi was fresh, tasty, and well presented. The staff was friendly and fast. Though not as fast as the 3 to 4 chefs behind the counter furiously making all the food though. The Sunday brunch was interesting... Sushi and waffles was an odd combo, but apparently very popular as we had a longer wait than normal and needed to be seated in the basement overflow area. The menu has a great selection of the favorites along with daily/weekly specials. Overall the sushi was on the higher end of typical sushi places and I recommend visiting.
(4)Emily T.
Consistent. Good prices. However, don't get anything other than sushi, because it is most definitely frozen and microwaved. The place is far bigger than it looks; you likely won't be waiting long even if you go when it's busy. Their rotating sign out front with their specials on it always makes me laugh. It makes no sense. "TRY THE MOO MOO ROLL! *picture of a child*" Ummmmmm k. A solid place if you want some moderately priced sushi, even for take out. Lots of options, and while a lot of them are fried/Americanized, there are a lot of takes on classics.
(3)Aharon D.
First time here, had heard good things but like all good things, I have to experience them for myself and judge them for myself. My friends this sushi is some of the best around, fuck the nay-Sayers. Excellent selection, excellent quality, sushi is imaginative and creative, very good service. Nice atmosphere and the wine and saki list though small is spot on! Great place for a date or to come in a small group of people. This place is worth what you pay for, you get what you are paying for. I look forward to my next visit.

I went to college in Towson and likely drove by this place too many times to count as my I made my regular pilgrimage to Andy Nelson's BBQ further down the road. If you didn't know it was there, it would be so easy to drive by it. Though for people who have missed it, they are denying themselves the chance to eat some great food. While it wasn't the best sushi experience I've ever had, some of the non-traditional sushi dishes they served have stuck with me since eating there this past Saturday. I came hungry and ordered a number of dishes, but the ones that really stuck out to me were the "Eight is Enough" and the House Tempura Roll. The first was an assortment of 8 different pieces of sushi, but each was a little bit different than expected. One piece had salmon tartar and a yucca chip on to that was really delicious and another was coated in tempura bread crumbs. Overall I likely enjoyed this dish the most. As for the house tempura roll (which I believe was white fish, avocado, cream cheese fried and covered with eel sauce and spicy mayo), while rich in flavor, was perfectly cooked (not too dry nor soggy and definitely very tasty). I also had a few pieces of nigiri which ranged from fantastic to fair. My only complaint was of the sashimi pieces tasted like they were still a little frozen. At the same time it all tasted very good and I definitely ate everything that came my way. The place was packed, but service was still very good. If you want to try someplace new and have a hankering for Asian food (they have a full menu of hot dishes as well) I would totally check out Umisake, specifically for their more creative offerings.

I have driven past Umi Sake at least 100 times in the last 3 years, but never thought to go in. Then after several recommendations from friends I finally dined at Umi Sake for lunch. As with most sushi joints, the options are fairly comprehensive, but Umi sake does feature many creative rolls not typical on other menus. The two rolls that were ravens themed sounded delicious, but we ended up settling on an eel/ avocado roll, salmon/avocado roll, spicy white tuna roll, volcano roll, and the tour of fusion roll. All the rolls were very good and decently sized, but the volcano roll and tour of fusion roll particularly stood out. The volcano roll has salmon, cucumber, topped with spicy sauce and then baked. Once baked the whole roll comes out perfectly crisp, yet not greasy. The five pieces that came to an order weren't enough, as we quickly devoured the sushi. The tour of fusion was a bit more intricate. The roll was made of spicy salmon and cucumber and then topped with cleanly sliced pieces of fresh salmon, tuna, white tuna and yellowtail. The roll is then finally garnished with multicolored roe and a wasabi mayo. In short, the roll was incredibly delicious - the perfect harmony of raw fish with delicate accompaniments. The prices are also fairly decent, most basic rolls range from $4.50 - 7.50 and then specialty rolls are between $8 - 16. A couple can have a very delicious and filling sushi meal for two for about $45.00. I believe the restaurant also has a Sunday brunch buffet with champagne, but don't quote me on that. Umi Sake is definitely one of the better sushi restaurant in Baltimore county, so go check it out!
(4)Carl W.
For Baltimore area sushi, this place is near the top, especially when considering the prices, but this is a backhanded compliment. Not a fan of the restaurant itself though. pretty shabby and lifeless environment and service 4 stars food (baltimore area) 2 stars restaurant and service

One word... BRUNCH There aren't many places in existence where one can over indulge 2 of the best foods simultaneously, yes I am talking about sushi and breakfast food. Umisake has taken this pipe dream and turned it into reality for a brief 3 hours every Sunday from 11-2. For a mere $17.95, each guest will be able to have at some of the best "buffet" sushi available, paired with your favorite breakfast staples, fresh fruit, lox and select deserts. In addition, the brunch price also entitles you to a non-alcoholic beverage of your choice, or if you prefer to go the hair of the dog route, $2.00 gets you a generous mimosa, bloody, sangria or their signature cocktail the Umi Sake Sunshine. A little about the sushi and why I consider it the best "buffet" sushi around. As sushi gains popularity among the Chinese buffet food scene in order to create a "one stop shop" for Asian cuisine, the quality of said sushi has always left a lot to be desired. Umi Sake strives to put out fresh, exotic rolls for it's customers. Hearty specialty rolls are always present in large quantities, many utilizing 2-3 different kinds of fish and garnished with panko or house sauces (typical $12-13 rolls on their normal menu). They also emphasize on always having a fully stocked tray of nigiri, ranging from salmon all the way to lightly seared maguro tuna with diced scallions on top. Unlike many sushi buffets that overload the rice and skimp on the fish to fill it's patrons, Umi legitimately takes it's normal sushi that is sold during normal hours, and offers that up to the brunch goers. It simply can't be beat for the price. As for the rest of the brunch buffet, though not as superlative as the sushi aspect, it still has plenty of tasty options. There is an omelette bar available with all the standard fixings for a fresh made omelette, smoked salmon lox accompanied by cream cheese and bagels, fresh cut fruit, your standard breakfast meats, hashbrowns pancakes and even eggs benedict, though were lacking (eggs were overpoached/hardboiled, Canadian bacon portion was very small and the hollandaise needs work). They also serve up a nice spread of Chinese food delicacies such as lo-mein, Szechuan chicken, crab rangoons, spring rolls and fried rice. As mentioned before, all of the other items are good, and should be supplemented into a round of feasting to break up the flow of maki into your stomach. Besides, how many time will you ever get the chance to chase sushi rolls with bacon?! All in all, Umi Sake puts on a great brunch service unlike anything else I have been to in Maryland. I highly encourage any sushi fanatic to give it a shot, especially those of us who can really put away sushi like myself (4th place in 2011 RA sushi eating contest with 96 pieces). Make sure to call ahead and make reservations, as the dining room tends to fill up rather quickly, and nothing is worse then sitting in an hour wait with all the sushi sitting right in front of you.

Whether you are on this way to catch the light rail to a game or out with friends before a big night out, Umisake is a great place for sushi. The service is quick and efficient. I especially love the No Name Roll and the Triple Nine Roll. The restaurant also has a wonderful version of Pineapple and Chicken Fried Rice. Side note-The sake sampler is great option and patrons are able to try a variety of drinks punctuated by various types of sake.
(4)Claire L.
Delicious! Love this place. Great service and even better food.
(5)Laura O.
My favorite sushi place! Salmon Avocado roll is always my go-to and theirs is the best. The ocean wave roll is to die for. The crab rangoon is delicious. The service is always speedy and great. The drinks are good. I can't say enough good things about this place! I miss living up the street from there, but my wallet sure doesn't ;)

My family of five came here last Sunday for the brunch. The selections were few with: french toast, that was cold and hard, pancakes, pretty much the same, potatoes, that were okay, but they were little deep fried potatoes, so I guess it is hard to mess them up, bacon, that was too crispy and just crumbled when you bit into it, an omelet station, that was okay, but no one manned it, so you had to wait there for someone to come, fried rice that was good, low mein noodles that were good, fruit that was okay, bagels and breads that were okay, desserts that were just too limited, they were three different kinds of mini cheesecakes, and by mini I mean there was a wrapper on each one and they were maybe one inch square, and then there were different plates of sushi. I don't eat sushi, but I guess it was just okay. I was disappointed to pay $100.00 for the five of us to eat a brunch that was just okay. I would have rather went to Golden Corral or a similar place. I would only suggest going here if you are going to eat only sushi. The reviews of the No Name roll were good, but that of course was not on the brunch buffet.

We came here for my birthday and I love the food. We got shrimp curry and chicken with coconut basil sauce and luckily had leftovers for a few days! Can't wait to go try some other dishes, but not sure I'll be able to with the coconut basil chicken I'm wanting now as I write about it.
(5)Mark C.
This is me and my wife's favorite spot for sushi. The Crunchy Triple Nine Roll and the No Name Roll is my favorites.
(5)Amanda K.
I've been to Umisake on multiple occasions, and this place does not disappoint! The fish is always so fresh and just melts in your mouth (Yum!). Even on days when I've gone close to their closing time, their quality of food is not compromised. And to top it all off, the food is reasonably priced. Two of my favorite rolls: Hawaii-five-O and Moonraker. Their noodle dishes are delicious as well!
(5)Matthew C.
Has quickly become our go to local sushi spot. We have been here at least four times and the staff is consistently friendly and service remains really solid. The sushi here is very good. The basic nigiri and rolls are always good and made with high quality fish, but the place really shines with some of its non-traditional rolls featuring mango, nuts, scallops, and other fun items. It may not be for the sushi purist, but excellent overall. Will go back.
(4)Skylar S.
As far as carry out sushi is concerned, this place is top notch. Fresh, and packaged well for travel. Regularly call in orders, and they are ready to roll(no pun) in a matter of around 10-15 min on larger carry out orders! Their South Beach roll will make you smile!
(4)Jill B.
I always get chirashi don at other sushi places because the rolls never have enough fish. Umisake has converted me. Their rolls are amazing!!!
(5)Suzanne L.
If you are open Christmas Day it is wise to have your logistics in order. Since this was my first time at this casual decor mixed Japanese/Asian fusion restaurant, perhaps it was not wise to both accept reservations and all comers. We waited for 45 minutes in an entrance area jammed with people in spite of making a reservation and having one person in our party who needed to sit. The manager brought him a chair. After being seated two people ordered mixed drinks. That seemed to be a signal to slow down service. We did down all the seaweed salad ordered as that was all we had and it was really fresh if maybe a little too sweet. After we complained twice and noticed that people arriving after us had gotten their orders we finally ordered. My friend's salmon teriyaki dinner was well prepared and the salmon was tender, vegetables properly steamed; sauce bland and sweet. An order of sashimi was nicely done with fresh cucumber and daikon spidery threads. A couple of sushi orders were a disappointment. Large amounts of rice to a small amount of poor portion of crab and a slice of tuna on top and a tasteless sauce resembling thousand island dressing. Another maki order had fish in the middle and a teriyaki sauce on top, bland. At least the fish was nicely sliced and fresh. The rice tasted like leftovers; not much nori or flavor. The klieg lights, white walls, plain decor and fever pitch noise and jammed in crowds did not add to the ambience.
(2)Kevin J.
Excellent Sushi. So far this is the best quality of sushi in the area. I have been to them all.The service was quick and friendly. The price point was pretty much right in line with Hana Sushi or the other places around town. Will be back. Recommend!
(5)Moni K.
I had the Chicken Pad Thai Noodle which was ok and green hot tea. The food was ok but I was seated next to a couple, a guy and a girl. The guy was obviosuly sick and was coughing a lot. Of all the places the hostess could sit me in the restaurant she put me next to the sick guy. Not my idea of nice dinner.

I normally do not write reviews on about business. I brought an Amazon local special and was very excited to try it. Let's just say the food was bad and they did not want to take the extra step to make it better. They were selling dead soft-shell crabs. I crab was all mushy. She say we sell a lot everyday. I told her I know the crabs come frozen so I understand that it might not be your fault however I do not want to pay for spoil food. I came from a family who owed and operated restaurants. I was check by the serve when said if I can exchange it. The manager had a very bad attitude and rolled her eyes. The waitress act like her cannot do anything. The sushi rice was not on par that night either. All the sushi taste like plain white rice without the vinegar and mirin. I even pick out the rice to make sure I was not mistake. When they pack the left overs they purposely spill the sauce in the paper bag. The ride home was only 10min, smooth ride no crazy breaking or turns. Why did the sauce got all over my car carpet. Overall, I found them dirty, bad service and food. I would not come back again!
(1)Emily W.
I have only been to Umi Sake for their brunch, so that is all my review is based on. That being said, the brunch is very nice. We were there today in a large group, probably 15 or so. The staff was very friendly and attentive with drinks as clearing plates. The buffet itself has a pretty large variety. There is an omelet station, pancakes, French toast, hash browns, and bacon. There are also things like orange chicken, egg rolls, cream cheese wontons, and lo mein in the "hot" area. Alongside the sushi bar, there were bagels and smoked salmon, with cream cheese and veggies. There was fresh fruit, seaweed and imitation crab salad, and little cheesecake bites as a dessert option. The sushi they put out for the brunch is really good. They have some more basic rolls, like california, shrimp tempura, and philly, but they also do some nice special rolls- one was even a veggie option! It was mushrooms with avocado on top and some sort of spicy sauce (probably mayo based). They also had a great selection of nigiri, with salmon, tuna, and eel. There is pretty much something for everyone, and I thought the price was reasonable too. Ours came out to $25/person, but I'm not sure of the regular price. I took one star off for 2 relatively minor things- the parking lot is way too small and it's kind of a free for all- I ended up parking in front of their dumpster this AM because I had no idea where else to go. The only other thing is that the buffet and restaurant area are really packed in tight, so just something to keep in mind (especially if you have kids in strollers). Overall, I enjoyed the brunch selection and found the price to be reasonable. I will definitely be back.
(4)Team G.
Three letters...OMG!!!lol the veggie fried rice taste so good...you'd think they sprinkled "crack" on it!!! We posted a pic is of my wife's favorite "lion king" sushi roll (cali roll wrapped in cooked salmon) which isn't on the menu but they will make for you upon request...we ate up the fried rice before we remember to take pics lol.....great place!!!!
(5)Cori B.
Hands down my go-to sushi place near home. It's in an awkward place on York Road, so a lot of people tend to overlook it- but every time I take a friend to this place, they're always impressed. The restaurant is always clean, the staff is always friendly, and the food is always delicious and well-presented! Maybe we've hit it lucky, but every time I go- there's never a wait. The sushi is some of the best I've ever had... They have standard, decently priced rolls as well as an unreal amount of specialty rolls (there's one with blueberry, strawberry, and mango that's AMAZING if you're a sweet tooth, the name escapes me). They even have pretty decent non-sushi fare (for my fiance who just "hates fish").
(5)Heather L.
definitely top three best sushi i've ever had. huge selection of rolls especially specialty ones. everything is fresh and the food comes out quick. always had great service here too. deserves 4.5 stars in my book. can't wait to try the brunch buffet. a few of my favorite rolls: broadway scallop dynamite hawaii five-o double dipping fuji nut try the tuna pizza!!
(4)Seth And Sophie G.
The best Sushi I have ever had, and I eat sushi almost every week. The recession roll, hippie, Raw Raw, Tuna Pizza, literally everything is a MUST! If you have the chance to stop by, do not hesitate!
(5)Jason L.
me and my friend went here last week, It took a 20 mins to wait to be served and it was not busy at all. We ordered 5 or 6 sushi rolls and some sashimi. My friend said later that the sashimi (which I had none of) tasted like it had gone bad. And later that night I threw up my whole dinner, again getting hit by that horrible smell, so apparently the sushi that I had was bad too. All in all it was a complete waste of $50. I would not come there any more ! Bad server ,bad food ..
(1)Keejoo L.
One of my favorite sushi places when I am in Timonium. Their service and food is always great and their sushi is as fresh as you can find it. They mix japanese and some korean dishes on the menu and have pages of sushi you can choose from that range from simple rolls to really complex ones. Their prices are a little higher than other places in the area but you are paying for quality. On the weekends this place is packed for dinner and Sundays they advertise some kind of brunch. I think next time I go I will try that. I stick with the things I get at all sushi places, eel rolls, and salmon sashimi.
(5)Derrick P.
Having ventured out every now and then, this still remains as my go-to for getting sushi in the area. While all of the other restaurants around are mediocre (not good, not bad), this place has a step up in a few ways: Quality of sushi: You can just tell that the fish is fresh and flavorful. I've been coming here at least once a week and there were very few times when I was disappointed by the quality of fish here. Service: You come here more than a few times and the people here will know you by first name basis. There is a lot of open friendliness here, and I think this is what draws back the customers. You're treated like family, and at the same time it's never over-bearing or awkward as you might feel when you walk into a store at the mall and the people just bug you too much. Consistency: It's not uncommon to be in this restaurant and hear customers saying "this is great as usual" to the staff. I've never been at a restaurant where I heard this comment said so many times. And, speaking from personal experience, there is a real consistency in terms of quality of sushi and service. Five stars because while it's not the sushi quality you might get in the likes of New York or San Francisco, it's still great sushi and the service and consistency are excellent. Recommendation? I usually go for the salmon-avocado roll. Consistently delivers!
(5)Robert W.
3.75 stars went back a couple of weeks ago. This time, I made a deliberate effort to order rolls without a ton of sauce. It was good. Fish was pretty fresh and the rice was good. I still won't run here when I'm craving sushi, but won't avoid it to have dinner with friends.
(3)Sarah B.
We enjoy coming here on occasion. It's good sushi, but not out of this world good sushi. A variety of rolls, even good meals with rolls included. Specialty rolls in great multitude. A great atmosphere, and we've never had a really long wait before. It's right down the middle even though I've gone several times, which is why it results in 3 stars.
(3)Carl H.
I come here semi-frequently with a group of friends and am always pleased with the food. The selection is vast and cannot be considered a downside as there is always something new to try. The sushi is fresh and very appealing not just in taste but in presentation. The staff is friendly and attentive but not overly bothersome. The price is as expected for fish of this quality. I routinely order the chirashi (mixed sushi) and it always makes me happy!. It is fun to come as a group and share a large dish but this restaurant is equally suited for more intimate occasions. I encourage you to try it out!
(4)T S.
Everytime I have been here, the sushi has always been fresh. The decor and service could be better. But overall I really like this place.
(4)Stacy F.
Best sushi around love everything they have so many choices a little expensive but delish
(5)Erica C.
I went here once. Just one. The sushi selection was pretty standard, but it appeared that they also had Chinese and Korean options as well. I noticed that they have ramen soup, and being a ramen lover, I had to try. It had some pre-frozen, deep fried chicken on top of a boring ramen soup. I didn't expect fantastic ramen, but it was edible. I feel like they are trying to combine too many things at once, and we all know what that means. It isn't a bad option though, just skip the soup...go for the sushi.
(3)Chris V.
Amazing sushi and definitely the coldest beer in town. An unbeatable combination in my opinion. VERY attentive staff too! It's always a good meal and always a good time. Their roll selection is insanely extensive!
(5)Ryan N.
This place is a hit with everyone in my family. You can't beat the brunch buffet. There is so much awesome breakfast food it's crazy. Even better is the all you can eat sushi. You would think the quality would not be so great but the chefs ensure that doesn't happen.
(5)Silvia K.
great!
(4)Jina N.
Pretty decent place to go and eat! The staff was very nice and friendly! Food was quickly serve, you don't have to wait for a long. The food was delicious. My favorite tuna tataki was bomb!! Lookin forward to go again. Was my first time yesterday!! Happpy.
(5)S T.
We recently went back to Umisake after hearing that they had changed ownership. We figured that some of the problems and issues that were present before had gone away with the previous owners. I'm happy to say that the food and service are both very good. We have not been back to try the Sunday brunch buffet yet but Umi Sake is back in the rotation for local sushi. I had to keep the same number of stars as my previous review but I would give Umisake 3.5 stars now instead of 2.5.
(3)Holly B.
This place is amazing. The best sushi I've ever had. So many different rolls to choose fun. The employees are all very nice as well. My favorite place in baltimore county!

Ah, the exception that proves the rule. Always a nice find. Having known this place since the 90's, and having seen a variety of businesses going through it, I was initially hesitant to come here since, as the rule goes, one failing business in a location usually chases another. So imagine my surprise when we finally made it here, and not only was the place popular (it's been packed during all return visits), but the food really good, no matter what you are getting. I have so far eaten half of Asia here (or, yes, the interpretation of half of Asia), from a Korean hot pot (excellent!) to various types of noodles (very good), and your classic Chi-western (very good as well). Most recently I finally tried sushi here, and it was delicious. The rolls are a bit more creative than at some of the other local spots, so it's a nice alternate to my main sushi place. The decor itself is modern and open, which is a nice change from how I remember the place (dark, booths inlaid into the walls). It's not a traditional decor by any margin of the imagination, but it offers guests enough space to eat and pleasant lighting to eat by. It can get loud, especially since the place attracts birthday parties and other large groups, but generally it's manageable. Staff is generally friendly and knowledgable (they asked me whether I had ever had the Korean hot pot before, which, given that it has a fried egg, was probably a pre-caution against people freaking out...) and the cost is reasonable for the area. Overall a very good casual place for dinner, somewhere I will come to again over the years.

Was seated at sushi bar right next to some kind of heat lamp shaped like a lava rock - very weird and uncomfortable. Also who puts a heat lamp next to the raw fish case?~ Also uncomfortable were all the waitresses constantly reaching across me to grab plates on a busy Saturday night. If I ate here again I definitely would avoid the cramped sushi bar, it's too frantic. But I don't know that I'd eat here again. The tons of maki rolls are mostly all Americanized, loaded up with sauce, fried tempura, tempura crunchies, cream cheese, fruit, etc. There are so many to choose from I didn't even really know where to begin. I appeared to be the only person ordering a traditional sushi plate based on what I saw being rushed out to other tables - I guess I should have known better. My chirashi was pretty disappointing, not presented like classic chirashi, no tobiko or salmon roe, limp shrimp, kind of soft texture to some of the fish I didn't like. I won't say it tasted "off", but it didn't taste especially great. No miso soup or basic salad included with the chirashi either, as I'd normally expect at a full-service Japanese restaurant and especially at that price. My Spicy Tuna hand roll was decent, at least.

First of all, Umisake is pretty unassuming to the eye. Once you get past that, the food and service are outstanding. Drink specials offer some good sake-based drinks. We ordered the wasabi shumai appetizer (very good) and yellowtail (also very good) to start. Then came the rolls. All of the rolls we tried were outstanding (Itsy Spider Roll, Kamikaze, Raw Raw), but a couple of the specials were kller. The Fresh Roll (crab w/spicy sauce) was solid, but the No Name Roll was one of the better things I have eaten. A fried roll with crab and tuna inside, covered in crab meat and an Old Bay sauce. Should've ordered a second round of that one, but we had done a lot of damage at that point. J Lo, our server, was incredibly nice and talkative. She is clearly the favorite server of a few patrons, and deservedly so. When we return to the area, we will likely find ourselves back at Umisake.

This was my first trip to Umi Sake, I went for lunch as it's near I work and of all the sushi places nearby it got the highest review here. I'm not one to go by completely because I only tried two rolls this time around but I can say I'm disappointed to some extent. I got a spicy scallop roll, hotter than hell roll, and the Tunacado. The Tunacado is fabulous, everything is tasty though for the price they could have given a bit more of the main course and not so much lettuce, also it could do without the fried onions too [they're not BAD, it just wasn't NECESSARY y'know?] The scallop roll is what I was most unhappy with, I probably should have asked first so that is my fault but the scallops were cooked, I've never had cooked scallops in my 'sushi' and I'm going to go ahead and say I'm not a fan, I also am not a huge fan of the spicy sauce used, it was definitely spicy and not a bad taste it just wasn't quite what I was expecting. The Hotter than Hell roll, no complaints :). Overall it wasn't bad, and though definitely not the best I've had, I am planning to give it another try sometime when I've got the cash. I would just warn, if you're a frequent sushi eater [especially if you frequent the same places more than trying new ones] ASK about the rolls and such before you order, I, myself, apparently became too accustomed to what I normally get and this time around didn't quite get what I expected when I didn't ask first.

Strawberry sushi. Should I say more? Get there and try all the delicious things you didn't try before. Love their cocktails too:)))

Generous chunks of fresh raw fish in the special rolls we tried, topped with things like roe, delicious crunchy stuff, mango slices, or sauces that were done just right (not overpowering / too sweet / too salty like other places' special rolls). I can only remember the name of one of the rolls we tried - "Trifecta", which was so awesome, yellowtail, tuna, and eel with mango bits and avocado. But I have a feeling that all the sushi on their menu is excellent. Delicious! We had a string of mediocre experiences with various sushi places we've tried so I was apprehensive about trying this place - but we finally hit a winner. :) They also had a large selection of different Asian foods which we didn't try any of (and may never get to try since we will want their sushi every time).

My all-time favorite sushi place! My favorite rolls are: house tempura, raw raw roll, spicy indian, and Hawaii five-0. I've tried their tuna pizza which is also delicious.

Had the traditional fried rice. At first, I was cautious because it was $9.95 but the bowl was huge. Definitely enough for 2 people. My fiancé had the miso soup which was good as well as the dumplings which he said we bland. The highlight of his trip was the albacore tuna rolls. He said they tasted awesome and are about the se price as any where else.

This place is pretty good. The service is great and accomodating, the sushi is fresh and delicious. Some of their unique rolls don't really do it for me, but otherwise everything else is dandy. My boyfriend loves the pineapple chicken, which he claims is delicious. This place does get busy, but you can almost always find a seat quickly. Excellent place to take a date. Inexpensive, big rolls, and the place is clean. Seriously, cleanest bathroom I've seen in a sushi place!

Really, really good. The Passion Roll was one of the best I've had from any sushi place...Reminds me of poke (no rice). YUM!

Umi Sake is not what it was 2-3 years ago. The ownership has changed. As far as running the place such as staff and service, its fine. I guess what you would expect at any casual sushi place. The rolls are good but I can tell the sushi is not as fresh anymore and more dull tasting. I tried another sushi restaurant that is a few miles away that the old owner opened up called Fusion. I was wowed when I went in. When I went back to Umi Sake the sushi was just...ehhh. Many of the people I know that dine at Umi Sake feel the same. As far as I'm concerned, the new management is not running it too well and they are losing a lot of customers. This used to be my favorite place to get sushi all the time. I will not be returning to Umi Sake.

Great restaurant! Very attractive. The sushi is fresh and unique. The sushi chefs, owners and waitstaff are all very friendly. We have never had a wait issue as we tend to eat a bit on the early side. LOVE the sassacio (fresh tuna on crunchy wontons with spicy mayo)--just delicious. Worth a try!! We will continue to be loyal fans of this special japanese restaurant!

Freshest sushi in the area. My friends and I love this place. We will come here with a big group frequently and the waitresses love us. They'll load us up with sake and beer and cheer us on while we do sake bombs. If you're ever here and there's a giant group of loud and obnoxious 20-somethings, it's probably us - sorry! All the specialty rolls are great and really unique. I like the Crazy Monkey roll. The brunch buffett on Sunday is great as well. All you can eat sushi and breakfast foods, plus bottomless mimosas will run you about $25 bucks including tip. Seriously, try this place if you love sushi and haven't yet. It's the best.

Went there on a Saturday evening and sadly was told after waiting 10 min. for someone to even come to the reception area, we'd have to wait for 15 min. Well, 15 min. came and went and we saw people piling into the restaurant, be ignored and leave. This happened at least 2 times as we sat there waiting. Finally after waiting for about 35-40 min. we gave up and left.

I never leave disappointed. Great staff - always friendly and attentive. Large food and drink menu. Their Honey Honey is amazing! Highly recommend.

As a sushi lover, I find this place to be really good. The sushi is well prepared, fresh, and delicious. The menu is daunting, as they have speciality rolls all over the place...makes it difficult for a mind-maker-upper to make up their mind! Probably, the nicest decor in an affordable sushi place I've been to, including New York. Kid-friendly place with a family atmosphere, not a top destination for a romantic night out, but great choice to satisfy a craving.

Reasonable brunch buffet, good service.

The sushi here is excellent, incredibly fresh, and they have some of the most unique and tasty sushi roll recipes.
(5)Moon S.
grabbed a lunch box from here on a Saturday - was impressed- quite yummy

Fish quality was decent. Spicy sauce was very good. Service was just *fine*. good miso, average cost. I need to go back and try the brunch.

Really just another sushi place. Forgetful rolls. The decor is a little more modern then other places. The price is also a little more then others.
(3)jan K.
We went there for brunch, and it was a great experience. The food was fresh and they offered a great variety of sushi. Things that surprised us were the eggs benedict with crab and the unlimited yet tasty mimosas. We found the staff to be equally excited about the food they served.

Went here on a Saturday afternoon and enjoyed their awesome lunch special. 2 Rolls (and nice big rolls, 8 pieces per roll) seaweed salad & miso soup for $8.95. It was a perfect mid-afternoon meal. The staff was very attentive, eventhough the restaurant was not crowded. I was very impressed because a lot of times when I've done a sushi lunch special it's sub-par and the rolls are so tiny! This place is a cute stand alone building which was awesome considering York Rd. is a sea of shopping centers...

Thank you so much UMI SAKI Cockeysville for giving my 7 year old daughter fortune cookies that read "You are going to get fucked tonight" and "If you got laid last night smile!" My wife was thrilled when she read them out loud at the table and asked questions about new words. I will do everything I can to make sure everyone knows about this. When I talked to Richard the owner tonight he acted like it was no big deal. I asked him if he had kids. Of course the answer is no. Then my wife talked to him and he could have cared less. PLEASE never go to this establishment again. I am going to send copies of the fortune cookies to Zagat, Yelp, and everyone else. I also plan to contact all local broadcasting media on Monday. Please spread the word. If it were not for the owners apathy, I would have dropped it. This restaurant used to be a weekly visit.... never again!

OK sushi place, but I'd rather try a new place before returning. This place looked like it would be the best of the 15 sushi places located on York Rd. in Cockeysville. I found some of the sushi to be too soft, not firm like a fresh fish should be. I've definitely had better. This place was packed though. I also didn't like how they had sushi 15 different places on the menu - special sushi, weekly sushi, chef's sushi, normal sushi, sushi sushi, blue sushi and then finally the sushimi. Oh, and finding a sushi restaurant that is run by Japanese, is like...impossible. They're Chinese here. The menu also has Korean food, Chinese food, Thai food, Italian food...jesus just pick one thing and specialize in it, and make it good. Ugh...

Food was delicious, wide variety on menu. I also went with someone who does not like sushi, who was able to find plenty on the menu that she would enjoy, and did. The sushi was delicious and fresh, not over-priced. Wait staff was attentive and sweet.

Umi Sake has really excellent food ! They seem to have a mix of non traditional and traditional items with alot of unique rolls. The shrimp tempura roll I had was pretty darn good. I also really liked the seared Tuna dinner. One thing that sets Umi Sake apart is the shear amount of food you get with their entrees, my Tuna was huge compared to other Sushi houses. If you like Tuna, this is the place. The atmosphere is pretty fun too.

Took a few minutes to be seated as no hostess was around to seat us. The staff could be slightly more friendly, however they were quick to refill my drink so that made me happy. Dining area appears clean along with restroom. We ordered Sushi and it was good though not the greatest. The Shrimp Tempura roll was excellent and the Soft Crab roll was so-so. I still cannot find a place on York Road in the Timonium/Hunt Valley corridor that beats Edo Sushi.

This place is great. They have a phenomenal selection of special rolls as well as a great selection for other items. From the outside it isn't the most inviting but is nice on the inside. I would definitely go back.

I have mixed feelings about this place. For the most part, it was very fresh and tasty! We ordered the mango roll, viva las Vegas roll, tuna sashimi, and tempura appetizer. We also both ordered miso soup, but that never made it out to the table, despite us asking for it twice :( There was something about the Las Vegas roll that I wasn't quite enthused about. Maybe it was the fact that the scallops on top were cold... as in "fresh out of the fridge," but I my husband and I both agreed that we didn't really care for it. The mango roll was AMAZING, but if you follow my reviews at all, you know I have a place in my heart for all things mango!!! Tempura and tuna sashimi were both up to standard. While the staff seemed friendly enough, I was disappointed in the fact that I didn't get my soup and the fact that it took about 15 mins for us to get the check after we were totally done eating (and that was after flagging our waiter down and asking for it). I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to returning here, but with so many choices in the area, I might think to try something else first. 2 stars in general, but I am generously offering a 3rd just based on the Mango Roll and nothing more :)

Love this place. Food is always fresh, tasty and made in a timely manner. It doesn't matter how crowded they are (and they are usually packed), they will treat us well. We rarely have any issues with our food or the service. The menu is extensive and affordable. The sushi rolls are very creative and there's always something new to try. The brunch on Sundays is amazing! Great place!
(5)Dan W.
Was visiting Baltimore and we ate here for Sunday brunch. AWESOME. They had American breakfast food which looked good, but I ate only sushi and it was outstanding. They have free mimosas and sake sunrise as part of the brunch price. Also they have Adult fortune cookies which provide a good laugh, especially when somebody thinks they are getting a regular fortune cookie
