It's A-OK for sushi in a strip mall, but not above average for anywhere else. Their sushi wasn't always properly rolled as I had quite a few pieces fall apart. Disappointed in their tamago sushi as it was so sweet and cold that it wasn't enjoyable. Service was fast and fairly pleasant, even when they accidentally spilled my water glass all over the table (dodged it with my lightning reflexes). My bill was a little high based on the quality, around $40 for just me, since I ordered a la carte. If you're eating here, you owe it to yourself to make a trip down to Bethesda for some of the best sushi on the east coast in that area.

A little hidden gem in, of all places, a strip mall in Hunt Valley. I swear, I'm going to start eating at strip mall restaurants exclusively from now on. Hubs and I shared a spicy tuna sushi plate - his entree was Singapore noodles and I chose a "Green Leaf Pasta" selection, which appeared to be spinach noodles, shrimp, bok choy and a really light oyster-style sauce. The sushi is everything they say it is here. Generously sized, fresh, and mouth-watering. I wish we had gotten more of it, and we probably will the next time we visit. I can't speak for Hubs and his noodles (he says they were REALLY good), but I CAN vouch for the "Green Leaf Pasta" dish - and I'll say this about it - it was absolutely DELICIOUS. Very generous with the bok choy and shrimp, and the sauce was the perfect touch - not too light, not too heavy. Many may complain that it's flavorless, but for me it was just the right amount. Absolutely no complaints here. I'd definitely order this again with no hesitation. Service was pleasant and unhurried. It was dead when we came in (Saturday afternoon at around 4pm), but was starting to get packed when we left. It's clear there's a lot of regulars here, too, as some of them were greeted by name. I was pleasantly surprised with the cuisine here. Definitely going to keep this place in mind if and when we're up this way again. Recommended.

This place is truly a hidden gem. Its located in a strip mall next to Giant. We were already in Hunt valley shopping and looked on Yelp for a place to get lunch. Green leaf had good reviews and after eating here I know why. I order two sushi rolls, the spicy tuna and the 8th year roll. Both were delicious. They had so many items to choose from on the menu it took some time make a decision. The staff was courteous and patient. When we were ready to order they explained different items we had questions with. All in all it was a great lunch and I will be returning.

This is one of my go-to sushi places. Be prepared to wait for a table if you're dining in, especially on busy nights. The to go counter is as busy as the restaurant and I've done both dining in and take out. Personal recommendations are the Crunchy roll and the Penthouse roll. I also like the Pretty in Red and the Two to Tango. The wait staff are not always the friendliest but the food is good so it is worth it. I think it is also a BYOB which is great for dining in.

This is my favorite spot for sushi and Japanese in the Baltimore area. Lunch, dinner, dates, celebrations...I've been coming here for many years for all kinds of occasions, and it suits each one. Don't be fooled by the unassuming exterior. Located in a strip mall in Hunt Valley, Greenleaf is a hidden gem. The menu is extensive. The fried calamari remains the standard by which I judge all other calamari plates. The soups and salads are not just an afterthought, and in many cases are actually filling enough to serve as your main plate. The sushi rolls are the stars of the show here, though. There are tons of varieties to choose from, including everything from standard $5 California rolls to extravagant $15+ house specialties, and all are incredibly fresh and filling. It's hard to pick, but with this many good options, you'll always have a reason to come back. The BYOB option means you can have your choice of beverage pairing to make the process of trying them all even better. Arguably the best part about Greenleaf is the service. The staff is helpful, patient, and so kind to their customers, regardless of how busy it is. The owners, Charlie and Peggy, make it a point to interact with their guests and make you feel welcome. I have no hesitation recommending Greenleaf to anyone in the Baltimore area looking for high quality Asian food with top notch service.

We have been going to Greenleaf almost every week (sometimes more) for the past 6-7 years. The food is excellent and consistent. Another great things is that it's BYOB...bring your favorite beverage for sushi/Asian food...Saki, wine, beer! There is a nice liquor store in the mall (Shawan Liquors) that has everything you need..tell them you are taking your selection to Greenleaf and they will give you a 10% discount. The customer service and the staff is second to none! The owners ONLY concern are that you are very happy with your meal and experience. The sushi is the best we have had in Maryland, If you want something that's not on the menu, they will do their best to accommodate your needs. Don't be fooled by the fact that its in a strip mall. I suggest that you make a reservation from Thursday-Saturday nights as it's extremely popular and gets crowded. Well worth the wait!

The carrot-ginger dressing is quite good. However, the salad consisted of iceberg lettuce, some grated carrot and nothing else. There were an alright number of specialty rolls. The penthouse roll was interesting because it had cilantro in it with some lime on top of the tuna. A combination that I wouldn't have thought of, but ended up being quite a good roll. Esther roll was good too. Rainbow roll is standard, the salmon was good, the tuna was slightly fishy. And the crunchy roll was my least favorite. I found it to be a little bland and somehow weirdly sweet. We would go back, though it's not one of those places that you disown all other sushi restaurants for. There are so many out there, that you've really got to have something no one else offers. Penthouse roll was definitely my favorite.

This place has very good sushi and entrees. They're byob which is nice if you're looking for a relaxing evening. One thing I have noticed though after watching A situation at another table last night is they are not the best customer service when something is wrong.

If you are a veggie, you don't have too many options here. I ordered the veggie fried rice to go, and it was terrible. Never coming back here.

This is our favorite spot for sushi and healthy Japanese food. The penthouse roll is our favorite as well as the sushi bar salad which is seaweed salad topped with crab. It is byob which is great for any Friday or Saturday night. They have the friendliest staff around. The entrees are very good too, really fresh and healthy! Pad Thai and Singapore noodles with shrimp are very well seasoned and make for a great dish.

(4/10/2015) We were celebrating two family birthdays at once at Green Leaf, it was the organizer's fave Asian restaurant in the area. We all already know Baltimore metro has abysmal Chinese food representation, out in the far flung 'burbs, it's even worse than you think. While the sign may say "Japanese," it's def not; it's a Chinese restaurant cashing in on a trifecta of jaded trends: sushi/Thai/spa cuisine. I'm not even going to talk about authenticity. Having read the menu beforehand and the reviews, decided to stick with the sushi. Rolls were thick, loose, heavily sauced, mostly favored non-sushi eaters with a preponderance of deep-fried items in the maki (fried chicken in a roll, anyone?) and of the maki itself. Nigiri were mostly fresh, but enormous pieces, twice the appropriate 2-bite size. I know it's generous, but it's just not right. The Asian-style dishes were mostly fusion or just straight up fancified carryout (Fried Rice, Honey Sesame Chicken). Honey Sesame Chicken was large deep-fried cubes of rather dry breast meat (as it usually is with white meat) in a sticky sauce flavored mostly with rice vinegar and soy. Pad Thai was boring but a very large portion, noodles stuck together and not well-seasoned. Fusion "spa cuisine" pastas did have plenty of fresh, bright green vegetables. They were very nice and accommodated our large party well, even made room for a surprise visitor, let us bring a cake, and sang happy birthday; all on a packed Friday night. It gets crazy busy, but I suspect mostly because there's not much competition around in these here parts.

Greenleaf is my favorite Sushi Restaurant. I have eaten Sushi all over the world and can tell you Greenleaf matches up with anywhere. They are very creative with their menu and they only use the freshest and best ingredients. The owners are fantastic hosts and make you feel as though you are eating in their home. The staff has been there since it opened and are amazing. What I like best is the fact that most customers eat there at least once a week and are regulars. I highly recommend Greenleaf!

Our party of 6 thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Green Leaf. Howard, our server, was welcoming, attentive and friendly. Everyone in this restaurant is so pleasant and accommodating. The food is always fresh and scrumptious. We tried a wide variety of their selections, and everyone raved about their choices. My husband and I especially like the Crispy Jumbo Shrimp entrée - delicate tempura shrimp with crispy noodles - rice - broccoli - walnut with honey sesame sauce - way too yummy!. BYOB ++++Thank you so much.

Great rolls with supple rice and tender fish in an unassuming location. I think Tokyo roll is going to be my new go to. There were several parties who knew the staff by name and overall just felt like a great local spot run by warm people

Had lunch with my wife and another couple. Chicken dumplings were awesome, very tender and flavorful although they were green. My entrée was oven roasted cod (lightly seasoned to perfection) topped with chargrilled crabmeat. A very light white wine sauce accompanied it. Small side of traditional white rice came with the dishes well. Service was swift and timely even met one of the owners. Parking is very tight in the first row outside the restaurant park in the second or third row. Prices are very moderate

Yet another Chinese restaurant trying to make Japanese food. Funny how you'll never see Japanese restaurants serving Chinese food isn't it? My first and last time here. Their Chinese food off the menu was good otherwise though I'd wish they'd quit with being posers or copy cats of other cultures cuisines, especially since they're so far off the mark.

I walked in and was greeted quickly. The polite person working there waited while I looked over the menus. I ended up getting the 5 year anniversary sushi roll and the crab wontons to go. My order was completed in less than 10 minutes. When I got home the sushi was fresh and delicious and the wontons hot and fresh. I would definitely order from here again.

This place is ok. I got really excited after reading other Yelp reviews and seeing some of the pictures posted; but unfortunately my experience didn't live up to the expectations. The rolls are rather small for the most part and aren't that cheap. Most standard maki rolls are over $6.00, while specialty rolls are at least $10. I ordered a California roll, spicy tuna roll, Philadelphia roll, lump crab and avocado roll and the teriyaki salmon roll. Each roll, while still pretty fresh, just lacked that extra something. For example the teriyaki salmon roll features a small piece of cooked salmon with sauce on top. Adding panko or some kind vegetable could have made it a bit more exciting and a nice contrast of texture. The lump crab and avocado roll did indeed have lump crab as advertised, but was just bland and had a thinnest slice of avocado. Some old bay or spicy oil definitely could have made this roll better. Obviously I am not a sushi master but I just really expect to have a more interesting sushi meal when I pay almost $50 for 5 rolls. Don't get me wrong this place is still decent, but it just wasn't for me. On a side note I didn't try any of the 'non-sushi' dishes so I can't comment on those; however, I would be curious to try them.

Mediocre, generic Chinese food. If you like everything to taste the same with no strong flavors then maybe you will like this place. Sushi is okay, nothing special but the ingredients are relatively fresh.

Best sushi and calamari ever!!!!! The Imperial crab sushi roll is to die for. Worth the wait on a Friday evening.

One of the best sushi bars in town. Specialty rolls are amazing and the 3rd year roll is a combination of sushi roll, tuna sashimi, seaweed salad and grilled octopus. Simply amazing. Non sushi food is good as well. To top it off it is byob with a liquor store right next door.

I've been here two years in a row on the weekend after Thanksgiving. Nothing like celebrating America with a little sushi! The menu is expansive: appetizers, salads, special sushi rolls, noodles, teriyaki...this really IS the definition of Pan-Asian cuisine. As a result, there may be a few things that aren't quite as authentic, but when your sushi comes from a strip mall outside Baltimore, you adjust your expectations...and Green Leaf surpasses them. Standouts, from this non-fish eater: Pan-seared chicken dumplings Pickled radish roll Vegetable tempura Fried Banana w/ ice cream Some of my family ordered themselves up a sushi feast, which came out on long wooden boards with plenty of wasabi and ginger. They said the fish was excellent. Also, the waiter put up with my crotchety grandpa, and brought my little cousin free ice cream. Nicely done, Green Leaf.

I don't understand the hype. Although maybe the sushi is good, we didn't order any. Ordered the crispy eggplant entree. This consisted of tasteless tempura eggplant with a wad of rice, and a bowl of sauce on the side. No other vegetables, no melding of any flavors, it was really just eggplant tempura. They should label it as such. We also ordered a shrimp dish and the sauce tasted of ketchup. The third entree, Singapore Noodles, reminded me of McCormick's curry powder with a few slivers of vegetables. Everything was blah. We also sent back this strangely off tasting "mango tea". They still made us pay for one. Bottom line, stick with the sushi (although I cannot vouch for it), or go somewhere else.

We've been visiting this place for years and I've never had a bad experience. The food is delicious and the wait staff is very attentive. We like to have our dinner a the Sushi Bar and enjoy talking with the chef's. This is one of the few places I will eat Sushi and they always explain what they are making and a couple of times they have given us a special treat to try out. I prefer going here over the other nearby chain restaurants.

What a great place! We walked in at 5 and the place was completely empty. It filled up quickly over the next hour. We ordered some amazing rolls!! ...... Crunchy Roll (Lump Crab, avocado, shrimp, fish roe & tempura flake with special seaweed outside) Pretty In Red (Lump Crab, avocado, tempura flakes & tuna outside with wasabe sauce) Tokyo Roll (Spicy tuna inside, yellow tail, tuna, & salmon Outside with wasabe sauce) All of these rolls were wonderful and super fresh! I will order all three again next time. They don't have a kids menu, so we ordered the tempura appetizer for our daughter. It was HUGE and delish! I usually force the child to eat all her vegies, but this time, she had to protect her tempura green beans from her parents. :-) All in all, a great place to eat! They do not sell wine or beer, so bring your own. The place would have five stars if they had beer and wine.

This sushi is the best in Hunt Valley, and it is too bad it's not closer to the city; more people should eat here! The sushi is phenomenal, the servers are all very nice and the green leaf dumpling soup is lifechanging. The sushi is very well made and they have a large variety.

Carry out: 4 special sushi rolls and one spicy tuna 1 fried rice $55 not bad. The sushi rolls very nice... pretty in red, volcano roll, and I dont remember the others but they were very tasty! The fried rice was the kind I like.. not drenched in anything... still white and had tons of flavor!

This place will not disappoint. The food is excellent. Whether opting for sushi or japanese pan noodles (yum), I am confident and hope that you will be pleased. In my multiple visits here, I have never had a bad meal. Please try the Green Leaf dumplings! Servers are very gracious and attentive. And the final but major plus is that it is BYOB. Makes for a cheaper bill and ultimately a happier customer!

Some of the freshest Sushi in the area. Their pot stickers and spicy jelly dipping sauce are amazing. Only reason I didn't give a 5 is because they don't have a "ton" of variety of sushi compared to other places in the area.

In Seattle, teriyaki is found all over the place. Like coffee joints, teriyaki places are a dime a dozen. I haven't had teriyaki since leaving Seattle and was hankering after some, hence a stop at Green Leaf. They have a reasonably priced teriyaki chicken bento lunch. About $9, comes with a very silky miso soup, salad with a Yelp-orange colored gingery dressing. Soup and salad were good! The chicken itself was slightly overcooked and dry, but it was a whole boneless breast. The rice wasn't the type of rice I'm used to, either; it seemed to be a long-grain variety. Not too bad so far, but since I'd heard raves about their sushi, I got a couple of rolls to go. The sushi was very tasty. I had a spider roll with the biggest spider in it ever! The rice was delicately flavored and of the right kind (sticky!) for sushi. Very conveniently located near the Giant, lots of parking at the restaurant's end of the lot.

Tried lunch at Green Leaf - I enjoyed edamame as well as a combo of a California Roll & Spicy Tuna roll. The rolls were quite large, they tasted great. I will certainly be back when I visit the area again.

We were starving when we arrived for lunch. The atmosphere is very cold and lacking any charm whatsoever. The food came quickly, but it was unappealing from the start. The standard Japanese Salad with Ginger dressing was very plain and tasteless. The chicken dumplings (Gyoza) were fine, but greasy, and came with a sweet and sour sauce, instead of the standard Gyoza Ponzu dipping sauce. I then had the chicken pad Thai. The waiter told me that it was their best noodle dish. It was so foul that I gagged on the first bite!! I tried a piece of chicken and it was equally distasteful, rubbery and gross. It was slimy and sweet and inedible. I DO NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone.

My mom and I come here for their lunch specials/bento boxes which are all under $10. And we always need a box for the leftovers! Their service is quick and friendly, and the food is consistent. We haven't tried their special rolls yet, but during lunch time, we always see the staff out sitting in the dining area, preparing all the fresh veggies or handmaking dumplings from scratch for their dinner rush. At least we know they use fresh ingredients and the dumplings are homemade!

Traveling along the I-83 corridor, found this restaurant on yelp. We visited at 9pm on a Saturday night and the place was packed. Still, they found us a table within 5 minutes. We ordered the Edamame, Miso soup, Singapore noodles, and two Rolls. Nothing out of the ordinary, but good food and would stop here again if I was in the area. I will mention, however, the waiter service was extraordinary. Very professional - wouldn't "allow" me to move my plates out of the way as more food came out and insisted they do it for me. They cleared the table of all plates, utensils, etc. instantly when we were done.

This place is rockin!! Great sushi! Great service! Used to come here all the time for dinner and lunch (moved to Rockville). Once, my friend and I actually interrupted the poor family during their family dinner. They opened the restaurant for us and we just chilled with them!! Good people!! Great food!
