After eating here and checking the Yelp reviews on the drive back, I was shocked to find this place got such high reviews. Went with a large group of 10 and we all felt disappointed by the food. Here's the scoop. If you want a standard breakfast place with a nice bustling local Cockeysville atmosphere, this is the place to go. But, might I re-emphasize standard. The quality of food here is poor/standard. The pancakes are dry and bland, the corn beef hash was offensively salty, chip beef gravy was thick like a cheap all-you-can eat buffet, and even the butter for the pancakes was less tasty than mcdonalds. All of this said one thing to me: poor quality ingredients. The reasons why I didn't give this a 1-star is because: - food quality wasn't necessarily negative, just bland and untasty - local Cockeysville crowd is always nice to have - wasn't much of a wait - reasonably priced However, next time I'm looking for a place for breakfast, I'd rather head to Waffle House, IHOP, or even McDonalds before I try this place again.

Been here maybe 4 times. 1 decent dinner. 1 dinner ok. 1 normal average breakfast. 1 awful breakfast. Why 1 star. Dirty, awful, dingy and tight on space. And not your charming hole in the wall either. Food - well for starters they put hunts or some other type of ketchup in their heinz bottles. Those little tiny heinz bottles that last a day or 2 in restaurants, well take a look. They are years old. How can you trust anything out of the kitchen when you start with that lie. What else are they cutting corners on? Well lets get to my last breakfast there. It was 11ish, i did not feel like breakfast so i ordered the 8oz burger, med rare and fries. In less then five minutes, we were severed. Wife and kids got eggs and bacon, so that's normal, but I didn't think they could have possible of cooked mine even rare. So what do i get, an old, reheated 5oz burger from last night i'm guessing. On top of that, they didn't even give me fresh fries, nope got re-heated fries and you know how those taste. Didn't even send it back. 1 bite from the burger, 1 fry with hunts or whatever ketchup and I was done. Packed up, left for good and write this for everyone to read. I should never have went back after my first visit, when i realize they were faking their ketchup. That lie was the tip of the iceberg and on my 4th visit i got the rest of the iceberg. You can get a decent meal here from time to time. I know people who like this place and I have had a decent meal here. But really, whats going on in the kitchen if they are willing to server an old burger microwaved??? Congrats ashland my first post, you earned it.

We came here on a suggestion from a local guy. The decor is way out dated, however I imagine if they renovated the prices would go up. So I say leave it! The service was good. It is a seat yourself kinda place and fast passed. The OJ was great fresh squeezed. The Coffee was ok too. I was not feeling so adventurous and ended up with some plan old eggs and was under welmed. My friend had the eggs florentine and she was very happy. I am def going to come back and try some lunch or dinner food in the future.

Had breakfast here while staying a night in the area. Very good food and coffee for a reasonable price. I had 2 eggs with toast and home fries; huge chunks of potatoes filled me up quickly. Extra points for adding onions to the potatoes! All steaming hot when served. Parking can be a bit dicey when busy.

I am torn writing this review. It is nice to have a small local gem that provides good food and they have a great burger and honest to goodness the best omelets I've ever had. That given this joint has some serious issues. The servers here do not seem to have been trained in safe food handling. I watched one server go table to table checking if salt and sugar had been mixed in the pourers by one after another dumping salt into their hand and then (I swear to God) licking their hand! Also the servers here are constantly coming out of the kitchen chomping on food, so they are all eating in the kitchen and not washing up before coming on the floor. I agree with the other poster they absolutely refill the ketchup bottles with an inferior brand and if you ask for ketchup they usually snatch a bottle of another table even if there are guests eating there (they snatched a bottle of my table once, hilarious.) I watched one server gather up the bottom of her sweater and sneeze into it one time. And on more than one occasion the servers kids showed up to work with them and were marching around visiting tables. I really hope the owners do something about their servers behavior because I would love to be able to keep coming to this local place.

Great place to eat. I recommend breakfast foods! Service is always great and they make you feel at home.

What is not to love about a diner that serves breakfast all day AND has a full bar?!?! Had brunch on a Sunday morning about 10:30. Place was packed but as it had just finished raining we picked a table out in the courtyard which they dried off for us. Very fast and friendly service. Outstanding $5 Bloody Mary, I ordered it spicy and they delivered. Love the MD touch of the Old Bay rimmed glass. One eggs benedict and one corned beef hash later, we had two totally empty plates. Perfectly cooked eggs, homefries with just the right amount of crispness and buttered toast. Enjoyed every bite and would definitely return.

I've been going here for the past 8 years it seems like for breakfast on the weekends and wouldn't change one thing about this place. First of all, this is not mainstream and a nice local business. Full of locals and is really the "hidden breakfast place" in my opinion. This is not the Ritz Carlton, but their newly added eating room is nice. I go here because they serve the best combo of sausage, eggs, home fries, and bread I've ever had. More importantly, I have NEVER had faster service in my life. I have come to the conclusion that witchcraft takes place in the kitchen to prepare the food. It seems like I place my order, blink, and then it's in front of me. Woah! I can see where the "quality ingredients" comment is coming from. Eh, I still find the food great and at an awesome price. It seems that dining for 4 at ihop I costs $20 more than here. If you want fancy, go down the road and have breakfast at the Orgeon Grille for $200. If you want simple, fast, and a hit of homieness then go here.

Local business that was bought by its employees. 12 tables (6 four sweaters, 1 six seater and 4 two seaters) and 8 booths so it's close quarters and it works. Lots of locals here. Owner is always out talking to customers and if you come often they'll remember your name and at a minimum you're always recognized if you come less often. I always eat breakfast here in the AM so I can only speak to that. It's always great. I really love the grits because the are very creamy. Prices are good, but on some things they are a dollar or two higher. Really, I have I complaints except parking which is tight in the lot, and there's more around back. But a lot of times, when the parking is tight I head else where. Spring, summer and fall they have a covered outdoor area. They also own the Ashland Bar & Grill which is attached. Never been there but they do have live music. With all its quirks the Ashland Cafe is a neat local business worth supporting. They are successful because they care and sell a good experience and product. Stop in with the kids and watch the toy train barrel around the room!

This has to be one of the WORST restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. I was a server for a few years in college so I'm am pretty forgiving but this was just bad. I want to put it out there that the food was okay but it's not amazing or anything. However, the service was TERRIBLE. I have been here once before with some coworkers and my experience was fine. The coworkers I went with love this place and were familiar with the staff. Today, I decided to come here alone during my lunch break. I enter the restaurant and I wasn't sure whether you have to wait to be seated or whether you seat yourself. I stand in front of the door for a solid 3 minutes and no one acknowledges me. They knew i was there, they just never said anything. Finally, I just decided to just seat myself. A group of 3 sit down at the table right next to me and the server greets them immediately, takes their orders, and brings them drinks--during this whole time, i'm sitting there, with no menu, nothing. I was about to leave but finally after being seated for 10 minutes another server asks me if I have been helped. I was finally given a menu and I ordered a glass of water. It took about 10 minutes for the server to come back and take my order and another 10 minutes for the food to come out. I also would like to add, that I never received my water. I decided to just give up on that--luckily, I always carry my water bottle with me. I quickly ate my food and left as fast as I could. Needless to say, I will never come back here.

Great service! Reasonable prices! And good food! This place is usually packed on a Saturday morning but the service is great despite. The menu is basic diner choices but everything I've ordered I've been happy with.

Great little cafe in Timonium. Good coffee, and better food than you will get at any of the disgusting diners located in the area. I'd much rather come here.

Best place to dine after biking on the NCR trail. The veggie omelet along with a biscuit is my favorite time and time again.

I've had breakfast here on several occasions but won't be returning. I don't care for the way the kitchen and service personnel handle the food. They are untrained and unhygienic. The facility itself is desperately in need of a deep cleaning. The food is below average by diner standards. The photos posted here tell that story. There aren't many breakfast options in the area. That might be what is keeping them in business.

When The Dent Guys & Gals get thirsty on Friday after fixing Hail Damages vehicles at Valley Motors..We come have a Crown & Coke. The music inside was nice.. There is two side of this place and a middle section that is covered.

Ashland is our go to place for breakfast - they just seem to get it right every time. The service and food are always consistent and good. This is a place to go for breakfast, lunch or dinner if you are in the Cockeysville/Hunt Valley area. You will not be disappointed.

Perhaps the best omelette I have ever had... Perfectly cooked where the eggs have a little crust on them and they used fresh and flavorful ingredients! Atmosphere is nice, diner inside but outdoor patio is cute. Good Bloody Mary's and good service... Nothing fancy, but that wasn't what we were looking for. Will definitely come back.

Always a pleasure to eat at breakfast or lunchtime here. Quick service, tasty food, fresh coffee, daily lunch specials. Never had dinner here, but will try soon. I prefer this place for breakfast than any other "diner" in the area. Recommended highly. My favorite item is the Super Combo Breakfast Sub. Yummy!

We ended up here because there was a 20 minute wait at IHOP, and I'm happy thAt happened because this is a great breakfast place. Service is friendly and quick and the food is good. My hubby didn't like the strawberry pancakes so they brought him plain ones in less than 5 minutes. The sausage was really well-seasoned and not greasy. I had to eat a little lighter than I might have if I didn't have lunch plans, so I'll be back to try the omelets and bacon!

The environment is not what I expected when I walked in. I more so thought it was going to be a bar and grill, but it turned out to be a diner. The food is outstanding though!

I went to Ashland a few times when I was attending a convention at a nearby hotel. It's decently good for breakfast. I haven't been here for dinner though, so I can't comment about that, but for breakfast, this is a typical greasy-spoon type of joint where you'd expect to find local folks.

I used to like Ashland. My brother and some of my friends go almost weekly. I used to always just get fried chicken strips and/or fries. That was fine. Nothing great, but fried food usually tastes pretty good. Recently I have stopped eating fried food though. I wouldn't penalize them for that, but the last 3 times I've been EVERYTHING has been awful. The service has been abysmal, forcing us to get up and walk over to the bar/counter to find someone to get us refills on drinks. The last time (and it will be the LAST time I ever eat here) I was so tired of the awful food and service I literally just ordered cheesey garlic bread. They brought me what was essentially a toasted hoagie roll with a tiny bit if butter and I guess garlic salt on it. It wasn't even on 1/3 of it though. And no cheese. They consistently mess up my friends' breakfast sandwiches. I got pancakes once, how hard is that? I've been making pancakes from scratch since I was like 7. They were terrible, bland, and spongey. I told my friends I'd never be going back and that I don't understand why they like it. They admitted they only go out of habit at this point. The food is poor the service abysmal. It's a local place with a lot of regulars, I guess that's how they stay in business.

This is the kind of breakfast place you used to go to. Like Courtney's in Raleigh. Or Breadman's. Before it got driven out by another combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. Or maybe that old breakfast joint is still standing, but you haven't been since you moved away. Ashland has that instant nostalgic comfy feel from earlier, simpler times. And it's way better than a diner. Service is quick and no-nonsense, prices are 15% lower than they could be, over easy is understood and delivered to a tee. Coffee refills appear before you ask. Is it morning? Are you hungry? Come here.

Just had breakfast this morning at Ashland Cafe. Very quick service and good food. I would strongly recommend this place for breakfast, possibly lunch, but not for dinner. It has grown quite a bit in the ten plus years that I have been going. I am not sure that was a good idea. Service is not as good as when they just had the old building. That being said, great place for breakfast and lunch on the run.

Very friendly and fast service. The coffee was tasty. I had the eggs Benedict florentine and it was full of flavors. The potatoes were a bit greasy but I'm quite picky in that regard. A pleasant stop.

Under no circumstance dare to come here for a cup of coffee only. The waitress took this as a personal affront. I asked for cream. Never delivered. Not once did she check on us. No coffee refills. No check. We had to ask at the counter. I had 7 business meetings here prior to this, since we moved our office a block away. Never again. Back to the Towson Diner, even though it is out of the way.

I go to Ashland for brunch/lunch whenever I'm in town to see my boyfriend's family. They've been coming here for ages and I think I have an idea why. The staff is always friendly, quick to get your order in, and the food is good(kind of average with a few great dishes) and FAST. It reminds of me of any other diner really and I'm from the NY/NJ area- I know a few things about diners. I've tried the chicken Caesar wrap- delicious. well seasoned and fresh. But my definite go to dish here is the TURKEY RACHEL. Sorry, I just have to capitalize it. It is SO good. It's everything I like in a sandwich, thin cut turkey, coleslaw (needs a little salt), thousand island dressing, on rye bread. I recommend it, it's a little messy but you won't regret it! I've also tried the lasagna- I suggest you pass on it. It's pretty greasy and I didn't want to eat more than a few bites :( it gets packed on the weekends and around lunch time, dinner time. So try to get there early or get there when it's not the typical eating hour.

I wanted to like you, Ashland Cafe, but I will never return. We went at about 9:15 on a Saturday morning. We were able to get a table, but the place was busy and the volume was absurd (which is saying something coming from someone under age 30). Our order was taken promptly and our food came out quick, but our food was bad. My scrapple was cold... assuming it was cooked earlier and not reheated well enough... my husband's eggs were burnt and my blueberry pancakes were burnt. We didn't bother to say anything or send anything back since we just wanted out of there as soon as possible. It is possible that this place has it more together on a slower weekday, but unfortunately I'm not willing to take a chance again.

I don't know how I missed this place. Driven by it a million times. Finally a friend brought me there. Service was great. The food was awesome. They even have a courtyard you can eat in. And. A huge room you can rent for an event. Love this place !!

I've now been 3 x's to the Ashland Cafe -- all 3 times after church. Ordered breakfast each time - never been disappointed. Too many things on the menu to choose from so I ordered 2 eggs, english muffin, bacon and potatoes. Meal came quickly and was hot and tasty and the bacon... there were probably 6 or 7 strips!! I've never gotten more than 4 when ordered at other places. It was crispy and delicious. This is definately a diner atmosphere -- I actually wondered how the waitress was going to fit between our table and the next -- but she did with no problem. I left walking through an outdoor courtyard that was very nice. Looking forward to warmer days and breakfast out there.

Had breakfast at 9 am on Sunday with outside seating today. Quick friendly service. Wife had French toast and I had omelette, both good basic brunch fare. Surroundings are pleasant, service quite good, and food good. Will go back often for good basic breakfast fare.

I regularly visit Cockeyville for business and this is one of my most visited place. Food is great. They have a wide range of subs and sandwiches. I tried many of them and they are delicious. Good ambiance with big screen tvs up the bar. It has never been very crowded when I went there. They have got good specials on drinks. My favourite is $2 domestics and $3 imports on beers. Yet not 5 star because I was surprised to see only one waitress handling all the tables and so it takes quite a while for your order. I thought it might be just for one day but now I have been there atleast 5 times and the same thing every time. Also the sandwiches dont come with fries or any sides. You have to purchase them separately which is little disappointing. Nevertheless will be there for sure next time I visit Cockeysville.

Ok, I know a lot of people love this place, so I'm sorry if I offend anyone, it just is not for me. They DO have a nice bar that I think was renovated in the last few years. I went there to watch a game once, and it really is nice, and they have good appetizers. There isn't a TON of seating though, so for game days, it's cramped if you actually get a seat. Space is definitely limited. I've also eaten dinner in the outdoor area, and it's very cute, and nice casual place to eat. I made the mistake of ordering a crab cake sandwich, though, and that kind of turned me away from it. Sorry, I just feel like Baltimore/Maryland in general has a claim to fame when it comes to crab cakes, and if you can't make a good one, please spare us. I'm sure there was SOME crab meat in the filler cake... somewhere. BUT everyone else seemed to enjoy their various sandwiches or breakfast foods (I think they serve it all day) so I probably just shouldn't have ordered what I did.

Review based on breakfast (kinda a broken record for me!). Ashland is a nice, solid, fairly dependable sort of place. The menu is very diner-esque-- pretty much the basics and nothing fancy or particularly creative. Just about everything I've had my many times there has been good, from the pancakes to the eggs to the breakfast meats... they do their scrapple as thin as you'll find it anywhere, and once or twice there have been some too hard edges here and there. Service is the least predictable aspect of the place, ranging from poor to very good. The coffee ain't much, unfortunately. Weekend mornings can come with a wait, despite the large number of indoor and outdoor tables. A solid option for the area, especially for plain ol' rib-stickin' breakfast standards!

I love the Ashland Cafe because its an alternative to your typical huge diners. The atmosphere is better because there aren't two hundred other people in there at any given moment. It feels more authentic and less mass produced, and I personally think the food has a more home made feel. The home fries are warm, with nice crispy edges. I ordered the eggs benedict and the hollandaise sauce was light and creamy, and looked wonderful dripping off the sides of the english muffin. The ham was griddled nicely and tasted fresh. You can't go wrong with breakfast here. Our waitress was friendly and stopped to chat about our meal. It wasn't busy when we went, but expect a line out the door during peak hours. If you go when it's not busy, you'll find the staff to be friendly and attentive. The parking lot is good for four or five cars, which isn't great. But again, go at an off hour to have a better experience. Good food at a good price, the Ashland cafe is exactly where I head for breakfast in Timonium when I want to go out.

This is the go to for Sunday morning hungover in sweats in need of a quick and sizable breakfast on the fly with an honest bloody to boot. Been a local staple in Cockeysville forever for good (not great) food, that is both relatively cheap and quick. My boyfriend and I have been frequents of this place for years, and there are a few pointers we know by now. #1- Always order two drinks when you sit down for breakfast, chances are your waitress will stop by twice; once to take your order and the second time to drop off your food and slip you the check under your plate at the same time. . #2- Never order everything at once unless you would like your crab dip after dessert. #3- Realize your surroundings your at the local small diner not the Marriott Marquee ease up on the help, the place is always packed, and don't make it obvious your not a regular. A few recommendations; The Greek Burger- Traditional burger with a giant hunk of feta cheese slabbed and grilled on top (my parents favorite). Crab Dip- Honest amount of Crab meat & Super Cheesy serves with pita chips. Eggs Benedict- My personal hangover favorite, two eggs on English muffins, hollandaise, ham, and hash-browns. Nothing fancy here, just good eatin'.

Just about the PERFECT restaurant!! If you like cozy, warm, homey atmosphere with fresh, well prepared classic Baltimore-style restaurant foods, this is it! We went for dinner- it was crowded with middle-aged and old people, always a good sign for this type of restaurant. It's been recently renovated and expanded- there are 2 buildings, with a courtyard in the middle that would be an excellent place to sit in nice weather. One side has a bar and is fancier-hard wood floors, nicer tables,; the other side is the original restaurant- small, cozy, clean, in a nice small-family-diner type style. You can pick either side to eat in- just walk into the courtyard and pick your side! (We went for cozy diner). The menu is old-school Baltimore classic- Greek and Italian specialties, fried seafood, crab cakes, steaks; large selection of sandwiches. We had strong, well-made straight-up Tanqueray martinis- nice and stiff, 6 bucks each-- good stuff! I had a really nicely done Greek platter- chicken souvlaki, spanakopita, doulmades, pita, w/a Greek salad. It was EXCELLENT! Doulmades had a lemony, creamy interior, with a nice chewy-tanniny- grape leaf wrapper; spanakopita's phyllo was crispy and light; spinach was dense, filled with feta, lemon, and oregano..mmm...soulaki was nicely crisped on grill and well seasoned; the tzatziki sauce was so good I could have eaten it by the spoonful! Salad was iceberg- but crisp and fresh, w. good tomatoes, red onions, kalamata olives, green pepper rings. Fresh, good Greek vinegrette-- when iceberg is done well, it can be refreshing My wife had the house salad- essentially the same as the Greek, w/o the feta and olives. Nicely done. She had a fried shrimp platter- the shrimp were juicy, bursting with a briny, shrimp-y goodness. The cole slaw was PERFECT- sweet, not dry, but just barely dressed. Fries were standard-issue, but still hot, crispy, salty, and good. And enough to feed an army! Can't wait to go back- maybe get the crab-stuffed flounder..mmm Best part-- whole bill was only 40 bucks, including the high-end martinis. Service was friendly and fast. Seems like a Greek family operation, which is almost always a good sign for a restaurant!! I LOVE old-school Baltimore dining!

Absolutely awful. Stay at home and eat cereal. Greek omelette was burnt. Home fries had no taste. Bacon was crispy but old and cold. Service was negligent. We will never be back.

Last ime I ate there it was 45 minutes before closing time and I was being pushed to eat quick because they "had to close out the registers"! 45 minutes to close a friggin register? C'mon! Oh, and the Mexican waittress asked us how we wanted our pork chops..I should have said RARE to see what would happen!

(03/23/2012) The Ashland is one of the typical Greek-owned diners you can find all over Baltimore. We tried 3 of the "Greek Specialties": Spartan Sampler (dolmades, chicken souvlaki, spanakopita), Chicken Souvlaki platter, Lamb Gyro platter. All the platters came with a Greek Salad (iceberg, Kalamata olives, green bell pepper, red onion, tomato, peperoncini, feta). Ingredients were fresh, cheese was plentiful, dressing was a nicely balanced red wine vinairgrette, lots of dried oregano. The chicken souvlaki was pretty much a marinated grilled chicken breast on pita quarters served with a tzatziki, tasty enough, not very special. Gyro meat was salty, spongy, pressed, thickly sliced, standard fare. Dolmades were tart with lemon and the sour bitterness of grape leaves, rice filling a little mushy, but the flavors were spot on. Spanakopita was the most disappointing, bland, gritty spinach filling and the pie was microwaved, had none of the shattering crisp flakiness that buttered, baked phyllo should have. Pizza bagel (what were we thinking?!) was a large bagel split, red sauced, cheesed and broiled. Have had some decent breakfast foods there (omelets, Benedicts), also pretty run-of-the-mill. Service is efficient, food comes out fast (a little too), great value for the price and portions, atmosphere is lively, local, casual.

Good food at a decent price. The outdoor deck is spacious and great for a group lunch on a nice day. Parking can be a little tight, though. I brought someone here who hadn't come in ten years because he had a bad experience and he was impressed by how much things had improved.

I was in town for a wedding and ate here twice once for breakfast and once for dinner. The breakfast was awesome! Nice size portions too!( Rye bread was amazing) Dinner was delicious, I had the stuffed flounder it was so tender and delicious. I will visit this place again for sure!!!!!

Let met preface by saying that I give all restaurants the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, my last dining experience was a major negative and I will most likely not return. My husband and I first dined here for breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised that breakfast was good (try the pancakes), so we decided to try dinner. Went there for dinner on a Friday evening. Nobody, asked to help seat us or tell us that we could seat ourselves so we ended up standing quite sometime until we got a table - strike 1. I understand that the waitstaff was busy( not their fault) so we made and allowance for the time we waited for a waitress. When we got the food, husband's pork chop was CHARRED - strike 2, but we did not complain to wait staff, and we are not the kind of people to do that, but it would not have mattered anyway because no one came back to check on us. Also, the broccoli that went with the entree was clearly previously frozen and was more yellow in color than green-strike 3. Anyways to cut this short, don't bother for dinner. My husband and i now call it a$$-land cafe, given the food quality. Only time to eat there is for breakfast, because hardly any restaurant can screw up breakfast. Pros: breakfast is good and cheap. Good place to go for drinks, the prices for beer is Verry reasonable Cons: food quality (excluding breakfast) poor, understaffed waitstaff

This is a solid place for comfort food. Cheap, fast, and yummy. A local clued me in and I've been going since. I'm sold and I won't go to any other place in Northern Baltimore County for food. It may not be the best place for more than 6 people. Pros: -Breakfast served all day.... -Delicious eggs Benedict -Lightning fast service -Cheap -Locals eat here Cons: -Crowded during dinner hours (but they've now expanded to the neighboring building) -Needs a renovation -Not much parking, but usually something can be found outback.

Best breakfast in Hunt Valley/Cockeysville. Tired of eating with the pigs at IHOP? This place rocks! Great breakfast menu. I had the Ashland Special, typical breakfast combo, but...It was probably the best I ever had!!! The french toast had a great blend of cinnamon and those crusty edges were fabulous. My eggs were cooked very well, over medium. Bacon!!! Finally a place that doesn't skimp out on the bacon. 4 slices and crispy! I highly recommend this place for breakfast. The cooks know how to cook! The atmosphere was very relaxed and everyone was nice.
