Husband and I stopped in here hoping to get some homestyle food, different than the pizza joints and yuppie bars Cambridge offers. We have lived in this area for years and never ventured in here. There were only 5-6 other cars in the parking lot at 6pm on a Friday. Now I know why. The inside of the diner is pretty dated. But, it's a diner, so I'm ok with that. First thing I noticed that 7-8 employees at all times were standing around the bar area talking and watching TV. It was awkward. But our waiter was friendly and attentive. The menu is HUGE. Everything from pizza burgers to fried flounder to chicken cordon bleu. We ordered a sampler platter: worst onion rings I ever had, husband said the crab balls were good, chicken tenders were overcooked and something was just weird about the mozzarella sticks. The huge serving of marinara sauce was also kind of odd tasting. For dinner, we both ordered the country fried steak meal, came with salad bar or soup, 2 veggies and a dessert, choice of pudding or ice cream. Husband ordered mac and cheese, baked potato, and chicken noodle soup. I also had mac and cheese, but opted for salad bar and mashed potatoes. The salad bar had mainly large cut veggies, things that would need "further processing" before you could eat them - large slices of cucumber, whole eggs, large cherry tomatoes, etc. I got the potato salad which was room temperature. I shouldn't have eaten it. Husband said soup was good. Yes, as other patrons have commented, the portions are large. But it does not make up for low quality food. And no, I don't mean "simple" or "country" food - I mean bad. I am not a foodie, but this place was just bad. Two large pieces of country fried steak, covered in BROWN gravy. The mashed potatoes were just that - mashed potatoes, they were crumbly and had no seasoning, butter, milk, anything at all in them. And I don't know how you mess up a baked potato but this thing had been cooked at one time and reheated in the microwave. It was horrible. And of course, no *real* butter to go on it. The thing that actually made both of us stop eating was the mac and cheese. I love mac and cheese. But this place puts some kind of weird seasoning in theirs. I swear it tastes like pumpkin pie seasoning. It must be nutmeg? In mac and cheese? The waiter offered to take our plates, and we quickly agreed. We hadn't eaten but a few bites but our body language told that we were done. He reminded us that our meal came with dessert but we politely declined. And he brought the check. Maybe breakfast is better at this place but their dinner was just so disappointing. I am not sure what the other posters are having but it wasn't what we ordered.

Maybe I caught them on a off day or it's normal, but I have never ordered an omelet that cost extra for cheese. Next time I am in Cambridge I will give it another try though. Good portion size, tasted fresh and was hot when it hit our table. Just couldn't get over the cheese charge.

Love this place, takes me back to my childhood! I had the omelette and my husband had the cream chipped beef which was new to him! We will be back!

Stopped by again for the real diner ambiance and got the chicken parmigiana (tough meat but good sauce) and fish flounder sandwich (surprisingly good) and other items. Noted some flies buzzing in the salad buffet area so wouldn't try that....

I am generally a much bigger fan of "mom and Pop" establishments than their larger corporate competitors. And this place certainly had the right back story: immigrant arrives with nothing, builds a business in his new country. What the Cambridge Diner didn't have, however, was quality service or tasty food. And ultimately, those two things trump all when eating out. Our experience: we were seated promptly... and then left alone... after 20 minutes, we flagged down an employee. He took a drink order of water and a decaf coffee. The water arrived after 5 more minutes of wait, accompanied by a cup of tea. The menu noted we could substitute a muffin for our toast for an up-charge. When I inquired about the muffin selection, I was informed it was comprised entirely of "English muffin." Lukewarm coffee finally arrived just as the food showed up. The omelet lacked flavor - save for the large chuck of onion in the middle - and was perfectly complemented by mushy home fries that likewise lacked taste. The wife's French toast was warm, but otherwise unremarkable. We ended up spending over an hour here, only about 10 minutes of which involved eating.

Dont try the Tuna Melt, it tasted awful and unedible as if it was cat food. Spaggetti and meatball was just as bad but atleast it was edible. It came with ONE meatball that was still frozen. The chicken noodle soup tasted like it was from a can but atleast it tasted good. The sausage biscuit and gravy was not very good as the biscuit was soggy and didnt have a very good texture. The italian sausage omelete was the only thing i found to be good although the sausage was very dry Overall this experience awful and one of the worst place to eat in Cambridge

Whenever I come down to ocean city, I always stop here, and for good reason. If you can hit this place early in the morning, you're in for a good day. The breakfast is some of the best things I've had, and in terms of diner food it's very well met. The portions are great and MOST of the food is worth its price.. Though there are a few problems with a couple dishes. 1. I would suggest staying away from the Chicken nuggets for your children as they are always a bit over-cooked. My brother got them when he was younger and was always disappointed. 2. The hot sauce is very vinegary and is not legitimately spicy. Other than that, the meals are very well worth their price. The soups are delicious; especially the Split Pea if you're in the mood. Last time I got the crab cake and that rivals some of the cakes down in OC itself. No filler, just right seasoning. Also, don't forget to mention the great breakfast. The French toast is delicious, and thick, too. The pancakes are large; they aren't the exact best, but with a bit of syrup and butter they make for a great meal. I'd say come here if you want a great breakfast or lunch!

Very fast. Cream of crab soup is ridiculous and comes with old bay seasoning on top. Western omelette is ridiculous and was perfectly cooked. Gyro good too. Waitress with neck tattoos very nice and friendly but minus one star BC I ordered wheat bread with butter on the side and I got white bread slathered in butter and she didn't come back to check on us as soon as we got the food. She did refill my diet coke and even asked if I wanted the rest to go. Plus I kind of suck for ordering wheat bread with butter on the side at a place like this. Ok I'm so stuffed and happy I'm gonna take a nap.

Been here for breakfast and now dinner. Both times we have had great service and the food was great! We are eating at a diner I was not expecting gourmet. Good meal just the same

To be honest with you, we haven't dined there but we regret to miss an opportunity. We were driving from Ocean City to Columbia and decided to stop by for a cup of coffee. We loved staff. They are very cheerful and pleasant. We had dinner an hour ago but decided to pick up a couple desserts with coffee too. Eclairs were die for... Just European style. A cup of to go coffee made us to chat over 30 minutes but no regrets. We found a great secret there. We will definitely mark it as a stop point if we are in the area. Also, we forwarded the address to our fiends driving from/to Ocean City. Just a great example what staff can make for you... Good job!

Food is excellent for a low price and the service is outstanding for such a down home style place. Highly recommend.

A very quiet and old fashioned diner but very forgettable. Came here on a trip to DC and stopped by for breakfast. Nothing special except the coffee.

HUGE portions - no doubt about that. My toast was so saturated with butter, it was actually wet. Pancakes were huge but not great. Everything was very salty. If only the food was an issue, I'd give this place 3 stars. But the service was a real issue. Some waiters were fine. We did NOT get one of them. Our server was morose. While not bad, per se, the server was so unhappy with his job that he spent five minutes discussing his misery with the table next to us. He claimed that 'No Americans would work as hard as we do for the minimum wage' and that that's why he had been hired. He said he did the job of five people. 'What American would do that for this money?' he said, in his thick accent. Maybe it's true. Maybe there isn't a SINGLE American in the world willing to wait tables, serve with a smile and clean up after guests leave. WAIT, no... there are MILLIONS of Americans who do that. And some of them probably even work at Cambridge Diner. Too bad we didn't have one of them as a waiter. This was like a watching a bad episode of 'Undercover Boss.' This guy should go get a job in his own country. And he probably shouldn't be waiting tables. Service with a smile is NOT his motto.

This is a great old fashioned and family-owned diner. I was staying at the nearby Hyatt and decided to come here for breakfast. My waitress was extremely friendly and had no problem with my requested subsitutions. My omellete was as good as an omellette can be, and the hashbrowns came out well done just as I asked. Coffee was refilled often. If your in the area, I highly recommend this place for a good cheap breakfast.

Stopped twice at this Diner on the way to and from Ocean City, MD. My friend loves the coffee. I had the Corn Beef Hash with eggs. My friends had eggs with hash browns & toast and Crispy bacon. Excellent friendly service. nice warm fresh food. It was busy both mornings. I had the French Toast for the second meal at the diner. Both times, we had fast friendly service. I recommend this place for breakfast if you are in the area.

Giving them 3 stars only because I come here around 4 or 5 times a year but today was the worst ever! If today had been my first time here it would of been no stars! I truly was insulted over what they served me! The cook knew when he put a fish stick on my Fish Sand it was not a mistake! He knew what he did! That picture of the Flounder Sand. That someone posted with there review was nowhere what I got! I didn't have my phone with me or I would of took picture! But I showed it to waitress! She couldn't believe it! That cook should of been fired on the spot! The manager never came over to my table! But waitress came back said the cook got in trouble and would make me another Sandwich! Really!!! I wouldn't eat anything that cook was cooking!!! The Flounder Sand. Came with fries & cole slaw but it also came with Salad Bar! I just ate the salad bar because it is the freshest salad bar! Best thing they got going for them! I have had other dishes there that were good but nothing over the top!!! Also our meals came with ice cream or pudding! But our waitress said would you like dessert? I wanted to say well it comes with it! She should of said are you all ready for your ice cream or pudding? There's another waitress that works there that is really on top of things we usually get her she always puts our ice cream in to go. Cups cause she knows we are in our Motor Home & I can put it in our freezer! I saw her there today but she was busy and if you know this place she's the one always calling everybody Sweetie! She is good waitress but a little on the weird side with how she talks to the customers! You would have to have her be your waitress to really know what I mean! But anyway when the bill came our waitress said again she was so sorry! I told her it was not her fault! Even tho I asked her if that flounder was a nice sand. Like one someone posted on yelp! She did say yes it was real flounder and a big fried fish! So she said here's your bill the manager took off some on your bill! We looked at bill he took off 2.49 really! The meal was 9.99 I had one salad some fries& a small cup of cole slaw for 7.50 I am sorry but that whole meal should of been took off! And they knew we come there too! Well they lost our business! I wish I had went out to our Motorhome and got my phone to take a picture of that so called flounder fish stick!!! I hear there's another diner down the road I guess we will try that next time!!! I just can't give them another chance!!! I would of if the manager had came to the table and took my whole meal off!! But I guess he doesn't care and if he don't why should I ??? Too many places to eat on that road!!!! Good Grief !!!!

The Cambridge Diner offers fresh comfort food with big portions. We enjoyed chocolate milkshakes, sweet tea, turkey dinner, an omelet, and a hoagie. They pride themselves on big portions and you can tell. The cold cut hoagie was fill with thick cuts of turkey and roast beef- which I've never had. Usually they skimp on the meat, but not here. On the other hand it made the sandwich impossible to eat! I had to unhinge my jaw and dig it. It was tasty. The prices weren't cheap, but not expensive. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful. I'd definitely come back.

I have been here several times and it just seems to get worse each time. I will not be returning. Why was this the final straw? I ordered the turkey with stuffing with gravy , this is a dinner plate with two sides. The stuffing was plain awful! it was just bread with some kind of gravy in it . the gravy tasted like it came from a package mix it tasted too much like flour, it was awful, no spiciness or flavor just very thick and gluey. When the waitress asked me how was the meal I told her the stuffing was awful she did not offer to take any action. I guess I should have asked to speak to the manager but this was so disgusting I just didn't even care. Lastly the soup, manhattan clam chowder was clearly from a can, bland, mostly a tomato based soup with little of anything in it. it was very salty and yucky. One dish I do recommend is the liver and onions but don't get the gravy on it. Gravy here at this establishment is tastless convenience useless waste. Several of my other past visits were disappointing in some respects but none as disappointing, to the max, as this. Bad food like this is usually a sign they are going out of business.

This has become my default eatery when in the Cambridge area a few times a year. Classic diner choices, as well as some less common dishes make for good variety. They have accommodated larger groups on relatively short notice. I personally like their broiled crab cakes as some of the best I've had (but not as good as my wife's). They make a very good reuben, and breakfast is available all day. Portions are generous and fairly priced.

Cheap prices, huge portions and decent food. Salad bar is awesome and everything is fresh. Been here a couple of times and haven't had a bad meal. Haven't had anything outstanding (it's a diner), but everything was ok. Definitely worth going if you like comfort food in huge portions and great prices.

Hands down, BEST crab cake on the Shore. Better than the local "seafood" restaurants, better than the fancy-pants restaurants in the surrounding areas. They use fresh (never frozen), local jumbo lump crab and minimal filler. You can really taste the crabmeat, which, for me, is key to a good crab cake. The atmosphere is unassuming. It is a diner, after all. But the owner takes great pride in the satisfaction of his patrons.

Stopped by on my way back from the beach. In fairness, this is a local place and the standards are what they are. For $11:00, my meal included soup of the day, salad, meatloaf and two vegetables. I took a few bites of the meatloaf and it tasted what I assume dog food from a can must taste like. It had a paste like texture. I'm fairly certain the mashed potatoes were from a box. I paid my bill and left most of the food untouched.

When I visit small towns I'm a big supporter of local businesses. They can be hit or miss but it is a must try for me. I had the roasted chicken for dinner. It was a little dry but still tasty. The sides were great (stuffing, broccoli & cole slaw). I went back the next morning to try thier breakfast. It was a home run. Hotcakes, eggs and very tasty scrapple. I also had to bring home a piece of thier homemade German Chocolate Cake. Yep, I'm a fan!

WARNING: DO NOT TRY THE LAMB CHOPS! This weekend, my husband and I went to Ocean City with another couple. We decided to stop for dinner in Cambridge as we were all pretty hungry and holding out to Ocean City was just not going to happen. Roadtrips are always a good time to try out local places and diners, so when we saw Cambridge Diner, we decided "Why not?". By the time we left an hour later, we were thinking "Why did we stop here?" Yes, the portions are big, but the food is not that good. All four of us got one of the dinner specials that included salad bar or soup, the entree, 2 sides, and dessert (ice cream or pudding). I think I lucked out because I got the crabcakes and they were actually good. Lots of crab meat, no filler, cooked perfectly, and had Old Bay on them (a must on the Eastern Shore). Unfortunately my crab cakes and the ice cream were the only good things ate at the table that night. My husband made the mistake of getting the lamb chops. WARNING: DO NOT GET THE LAMB CHOPS! (It is worth repeating). They were so completely well done that it was laughable. Apparently overcooking meat is not confined to the lamb chops because my friend's steak (ordered medium) was also completely well done. No ounce of pink was to be found. The other "highlight" of our meal was that we got the stereotypical diner waitress - bitter and apathetic. Hence, why we didn't even bother trying to send back the lamb chops or steak. However we should have all known better and just stuck with breakfast food or sandwiches. If you are are driving through Cambridge and looking for a place to eat, I'd recommend avoiding Cambridge Diner.

OVERALL REVIEW: Good prices for HUGE portions of food. The seafood is always fresh, the lamb chops are amazing, and they offer a "prix-fixe" style menu complete with choice of salad bar or soup, entree and dessert. DETAILED REVIEW: The Cambridge Diner is diner often frequented by locals from around the area. The diner itself is clean and bright. Their menu selection is vast, ranging from italian pasta to lamb chops to seafood, as well as diner brunch favorites. The portions are huge, at decent prices. Expect a meal for one to run about $15-$20. But don't get fooled, when I say the portions are huge, I mean it. All dinners come with the choice of soup or salad bar. The soup is somewhat lukewarm and not great, however the salad bar is fresh and delicious. The marinara sauce used in the spaghetti special and chicken parmigiana (as well as any other pasta with red sauce) is decent, however is too sweet for my taste. The "mini" portion offerings on the menu are not as small as you may think, for example, the "mini" chicken parmigiana came with 2 big pieces of chicken, and I was told that the regular portion comes with 3. The standouts though, are the lamb chops and seafood plates. The lambchops (which look to be about 5-6 ounces per chop) are perfectly cooked and seasoned, and served with 4 on a plate. The "Napolean" special, which has crab stuffed scallop, crab stuffed mushroom and crab stuffed flounder is the most delectable thing on their menu. The crab "stuffing" is a mound of crab meat, loosely bound with bread and mayo, but mostly made of crab. Delicious. I would rename the dish "3 crabcakes, and one scallop, one mushroom and some fish" due to the huge amount of crab stuffing provided. Any dinner specials also come with a choice of pudding or ice cream for dessert, so really, its like eating a prix-fixe menu at a diner. The bread pudding however, lacks taste other than an overwhelming amount of cinnamon. All in all, the entree is the best part of the meal.

Great food, try the lamb chops $16.00! Homemade applesauce, wonderful burgers and very good service.

Sadly, I strongly recommend you stay far, far away from here. I lucked out with soup & salad bar only; soup was chicken noodle & luckily they dished mine up before they ran out. It lacked salt in a major way. Salad bar was far short of impressive. I was surprised by it's lack of veggies actually - no mushrooms on a salad bar? Odd. I take that back; they had marinated mushrooms that tasted . . . off. Boiled eggs tasted fine but had the black ring around the yolk, which skeeves me out. Boyfriend had the appetizer sampler, which was ok. It was all deep fried stuff dumped out of a bag (chicken tenders were awful & SUPER over cooked). Two friends ordered their cream of crab soup, which was AWFUL. Flavor was passable, but the consistency was disgusting. The "crab" in it was, well, we don't know what it really was. Boyfriend actually spit it into his napkin after trying it. One bowl actually came out with scum on it - the kind that forms when soup hasn't been stirred in a long time. Not what you want to see when you get your bowl of piping hot soup. The French onion soup was alright flavor-wise and we agreed it could have been good 5 days ago before they let it reduce down to a salt rock. I had to drink an entire glass of water after tasting a single bite. The seafood (alfredo?) dish another friend got was alright; it wasn't what the menu led us to believe he was ordering (sounded more like a fried seafood platter), but still, the scallops & shrimp were large and good. Our waitress was very friendly, however she didn't seem to pick up on how most people weren't eating their meals (soup), plus I think some things were "lost in translation". The lemon meringue pie wasn't great. It seemed to have been sitting for a long time so the meringue turned into more of a firm marshmallow consistency. The eclair filling was pudding as opposed to traditional pastry cream. Oh, and the kitchen manager (I assume) had a stern talk with the staff about refilling things as they run out with the kitchen doors open so the entire restaurant could hear. Overall, it was awful. We laughed it off while there but will never, ever, ever return. Oh, and one friend (cream of crab soup only for dinner, which means she had 5 bites max) got sick on the ride home.
