hey everybody, i wrote a poor review about the heat in this place. and, new owner. new food. great place. come back. lovin' it.

For the prices they charge the food is seriously lacking. I had the chicken kebab and it was very bland, and the rice it came with was half over cooked and half crunchy. My husband had a chicken sandwich and he said it was so over seasoned it was almost inedible, and he will eat anything so that's saying a lot. The fries were clearly from a bag. We live right down the street and tried the place a few years ago and hoped it would be better after the renovation but it was still awful and overpriced for what tasted like cafeteria food.

I purchased a groupon for this place being advertised as "southern". Let me start off by saying the salad is the only edible dish at this restaurant. The free cornbread is hard, gritty and the worst cornbread I've ever tasted. Next the menu is all over the place, Indian food, bbq food, specialties all over, sandwiches and the most random set of appetizers. After much time trying to figure out the menu.....my girlfriend chose the lamb vindaloo and I went with jambalaya. why did we do that?! The waitress come back and says the lamb has run out for the evening(how is that possible) and she needs to choose something else. As suggested by the waitress she could try something else or just get chicken. She decided chicken and what do you know, she can't order that either because the only Indian cook to cook this food has also left for the evening, who also happens to be the owner. Are you kidding? You are the only Indian person who can cook the Indian food, who did not teach anyone else to cook this food that's still on the menu when you aren't present. C'mon! "Jambalaya" arrives at the table. I don't know what they thought jambalaya was but clearly this restaurant needs to be on restaurant impossible. How can jambalaya not have andouille sausage???! At this point I'm so irritated about all the bad food that I'm ready to walk out and ask groupon for a refund. It's their fault that I thought I was coming into a great southern restaurant. I am very concerned by people saying that this restaurant is good. Eventually I gave up and say that while she ate her salmon...which she claims wasn't that bad. The waitress I had was very sweet and kind, if it weren't for her id give this place no stars.

Yum! We went here for a last minute birthday dinner with a big group and the food and service was fantastic. We were seated promptly and the servers were attentive and When everyone's order came out, they were all huge, looked super appetizing, and well - were delicious! The pita bread and their tzatziki yogurt sauces had the perfect amount of garlic-taste to it. I was in love! I also ordered the Grecian combo off the menu and I was wow-ed at how much (delicious) food you get on your plate for under $20. I highly recommend that plate! I don't live in the area, but we have friends who do... and you betcha I'll ask to come back here when we're in the area.

God I used to love this place..... When this restaurant was the Hickory Grill you could count on three things...very friendly staff, great food and large portions. The staff is still nice, helpful and friendly...the rest...not. Just to be clear. I have been a couple of times since the remodel and the new owners, but the food is average or just below. The chicken breasts are now pounded out and are literally about 3/8 of an inch thick. fries have zero taste and even the biscuits are now awful. Too bad this used to be a wonderful local spot. Going to give it one more try before I write it off forever. A few tips: -raise prices and buy better ingredients -keep the current staff -can you season the fries a little? -what the heck happened to the garlic mashed potatos? too bad. a once great place gone. much like the deep slide of Urban BBQ in Sandy Spring.

2.5 stars. Here we go again, y'all. The space time continuum is doing weird things to frazz up The Ol' Mangaretta...or something. You see, for the past nine years, I've eaten at Old Hickory Grille frequently. There was a time when I went about once a week. I've brought many friends and family there, and they all raved about the food; our only complaints were that they close too early and the bathrooms could have used updating. Back then, the food was always good, the service was attentive, and the bartender (Jeff--heyyy, holla at your Mangaretta!) was one of my favorite people to visit with while I was there. I've sampled a pretty good portion of the menu, so I know how their dishes are supposed to taste. I was glad to hear that the grille (now Ted's Hickory Grille) reopened after (another) renovation, and I was ready to chow down. My dining companion and I were seated promptly. Our polite but too informal waitress came to take our drink orders. I was determined to try one of their new milkshakes, only to be told that the menu is incorrect and they only have about four of the nine listed. Disappointed, I ordered something else. After she brought our beverages, we told our server that we weren't ready to order, so she graciously told us that she'd give us time. Well, I didn't think she'd give us about 45 minutes without even checking on us. After the first 20 of those minutes, someone wordlessly dropped off a basket of bread (the butter had liquidized, and my pal almost spilled it all over herself. Yeah, yeah--The Ol' Mangaretta doesn't want to hear about that #FirstWorldProblems crap). Our waitress returned to take our order (I thought she'd gone into the Waitress Protection Program or something), and, of course, they were out of the sides we wanted. We settled for something else, and waited only five minutes for our salads. *Three* minutes later, our entrees came out (!). Rush, much? The waitress forgot one of my sides, after assuring me that they had it. At that point, I just gave up and ate my bland food. That's right--bland. All those perfectly balanced spices and herbs that I remembered were gone. I suppose the Spice Fairy packed up and took Flavorland (no, not "Flavortown") elsewhere. If I were rating any other place, I'd give this experience one star and I wouldn't return. But since I have history there, I plan to return to see if that night was a fluke. So, in the meantime, 2.5 stars for my love of Old Hickory Grille and the polite (yet inattentive and too casual) service, and minus 2.5 stars for that #^%( Spice Fairy who forsook us, the Waitress Protection Program (hmm), and the menu that beguiled us but denied our palates.

We were so looking forward to trying this renovated place out. The upholstery was redone along with the walls and floor, but their didn't seem to be any changes with the chairs/booth seats. Even though other yelpers gave their warnings, I still had to check it out for myself. I should've just heeded their warnings cuz boy were we disappointed! My family tried old menu items that we've ordered many times before to make comparisons. Our orders came with a side salad. I ordered Caesar salad which was fine, but had a lot of the white end pieces. My husband ordered a garden salad which was so wilted he had to send it back. We're not talking 1-3 wilted pieces. We're talking obvious 1/2 of the salad! How do u even send that out?!? My husband ordered the salmon rose- definitely lacked the creaminess & flavor it once had. My girls wanted spaghetti with meat sauce, but was told they didn't have that even though it was on the menu. They ended up getting rose sauce which was so watery, it didn't stick to the noodles! I ordered the country fried steak with garlic mashed potatoes. It was covered in mostly breading (different breading than before) and doused with tons of onions and little gravy instead of the Tasso ham gravy it once had. Their once aromatic garlic mashed potatoes had pieces of potatoes that weren't fully cooked! I also ordered their once crispy thin well salted shoestring fries which are now replaced with lukewarm tasteless shoestring fries. I had to ask about the renovation & the food changes and was told by the waitress that the kitchen staff had changed and they've tried to maintain the old menu as well as adding some new ones. It was SO obvious of the change and until the old kitchen staff returns, we will not be coming back to this place again!

The food here is fantastic. Love coming on Mondays when your meal is half price before 8. I've never had a meal I didn't like here.

Ted's Hickory Grille was a big disappointment. I am a big fan of BBQ, and I've driven by this place many times waiting for a perfect BBQ mood to strike me to try it. I ordered carry out, and the staff taking my order was very friendly. I got a BBQ pulled chicken sandwich with fries and coleslaw, and half of a chicken. The pulled chicken was extremely salty. It was not edible. The fries were cold. The half of a chicken was well cooked, but bland. All sides were ice cold. Mashed potatoes had way too much garlic and baked beans tasted like something you just dump out of a can. I know it was a carryout order, so I can see the food cooling off some, but all the sides were ice cold. I am not going to be returning to Ted's Hickory Grille.

Since my previous review the Old Hickory Grille has under gone a renovation and is now known as Ted's Hickory Grill. Although the menu remains essentially the same the restaurant now has a better bar area and has added some better draft choices.
(3)Ali M.
Let me start off by saying this the only restaurant I remember going to a lot as a child( I'm 22 now). Back to when the bar used to be next to the kitchen and we could watch them cook. So I feel a sort of obligation to this place. But sadly it's not the same. The starter rolls are half the size they used to be! I do love the walnut Gorgonzola salad it is amazing ( 5 stars to only that) but all the other food has made me sick! Sunday I got a blacken chicken sandwich and I'm not sure if it was that or the fries but I felt nauseous later that night. I wasn't entirely convinced it was from the food so I heated up my food and are the leftovers and it happened again! It could be from way to much grease and such but it is sad that it's so much different to what it used to be!

Over the years I have visited this restaurant often and it actually use to be one of my favorites. The food was very good. Four of us had dinner here on 9/12. We ordered a couple of Margaritas and they were the worst I have ever had. Three of the four entries were either dry or missing something. The mashed potatoes that use to be top notch had seen better days. Service was cheerful but very slow. They could have used more help. This was my fourth time here since they renovated and changed hands. I kept hoping they would get it and improve but I have given up hope. This is my last visit here. For the prices they charge the food should be better.

First of all, this restaurant has at least 3 names. It was the Old Hickory Grille, then the management changed, and it became Ted's Old Hickory Grille, but it is also known as Ted's Hickory Grille. Yelp needs to combine the ratings for all those names. I went there with my wife because I read an ad saying that on Monday nights they offer "50% off the entire menu." In fine print, it said, "certain restrictions apply". I figured it was worth a try. When I got there, I discovered that "certain restrictions" meant that steaks, seafood, ribs, drinks, appetizers, and dessert were not a part of the deal. (Im sure there were other exclusions, but I don't remember them.) In other words, about half the menu was excluded from the 50% deal. This wasn't a huge problem since there were still lots of things to choose from that were half price, such as sandwiches, pasta, salads, and some Greek items. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. (Afterall, most customers were there for the half price deal.) Our server was Michelle. She was very nice. She took our order, and a basket with two biscuits and 2 corn muffins arrived shortly. So did our drinks. The biscuits and corn muffins were pretty good. Our salads arrived, and they were decent sized. However, they were slightly warm; they hadn't seen a refrigerator in a long time. I prefer a chilled salad. My wife had ordered chicken piccata, and I ordered a chicken fried steak which, fortunately, was not excluded from the half-price deal. Our food arrived shortly after that. The servings were generous, but the food was just OK. My wife said that the chicken piccata was very bland and had no taste of lemon in it. It came with pasta. My chicken fried steak was also bland; the gravy lacked flavor, despite the fact that there were small pieces of ham in it. I asked for some more gravy to put on my mashed potatoes. It arrived about 10 minutes later, just as I was finishing eating. We chose not to order dessert. When our check arrived. I noticed that an 18% service fee was added to the bill. The fee was based on my ENTIRE bill before any discounts were taken. I questioned our server and she explained that they do that automatically on Monday evenings when they offer the half-price deal. She said they do it in order to assure that the server is paid a tip based on the original menu prices, rather than on the "50% off price". I understood the reasoning for this charge, but I was bothered by the fact that I wasn't informed of it when I sat down. She told me it was stated on the menu and on the chalkboard at the front door. I wasn't going to make a big deal out of it, but I did want to assure myself that this policy was stated for all customers to see. Perhaps, I had just overlooked it. On the way out, I checked the chalkboard and found nothing about a service charge. I then checked the menu carefully, and found nothing there either. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager assured me it was stated on the menu, but she couldn't find it either after I asked to see it. She then told me that all their customers knew about this policy. (Apparently, I was the only one who didn't know about it.) Needless to say, I left the restaurant with a bad taste in my mouth (not from the food which was mostly bland). I wonder how a restaurant can slap a service fee on every bill without telling the customer about it in advance. In addition, I had no opportunity to base my tip on the quality of the service I received. I also wonder whether a restaurant can legally do something like this. What is to stop them from adding a fee for the biscuits which they brought me? My dilemma is: do I let this deceptive policy affect my rating of the place? I have decided NOT to let this policy affect my rating, but I think it is important to let readers know how I feel. Im not sure I would go back to this place again. Even if I am not bothered by their policies, there was nothing outstanding about the food.

For Appetizer, we tried the Oysters, which were good. For an entree, we tried the chicken piccata, which was excellent, and the Creole pork chops, which were honestly too hot, as well as were way too chewy. Sorry, guys. Let me also say in all fairness that I wrote this review November of last year, I think, and am just posting it now. So, that pork chop may have improved a lot by now.

I am so disappointed at what happened to this restaurant. It used to be a charming restaurant with a nice range of meals, with the friendliest staff in Burtonsville. Then they closed for a number of months and reopened as a completely disappointing restaurant. The charming interior is gone, replaced with a generic, ho-hum design. The amazing wait staff seem to have been replaced by less experienced people. And the quality of the food has taken a nose dive. I used to come here two or three times a month; now I doubt I'll be back.
(2)Sharon W.
Went by today for lunch today and they are currently closed for renovations. There is a sign in the window saying they will open soon. Looking forward to those shoe string fries!
(3)Crashley L.
Had the Baja rolls and New Orleans buffalo chicken sandwich. Both were great tasting and well presented. The place is a mixed atmosphere with no real theme and the menu has a variety of option from Greek to New Orleans and lots in between.
(4)Sam O.
Ate here after their renovation because my wife and I had a coupon. I sincerely doubt that we will be going back. The chicken noodle soup was watery and bland (how do you mess up chicken noodle soup?) and my wife's entire meal was much too salty to be close to edible. When we asked the server to see if she could take the items back and do something about, she got visibly frustrated with us and had an attitude the rest of our visit. The baklava tasted and felt like it was plastic covered with syrup. We actually saw our server walk over to a container on the counter, pull back the foil covering, and use a spatula to try and pry the piece of dessert out of the pan. The service was also strange. The busser and server were blatantly flirting with each other at the table and was somewhat off putting. Overall, we were just very disappointed and recommend staying away from this place.
(2)Kellie H.
I used to live in the area and still go back (over a 45min drive) for their shoestring fries! So far everything I have ordered has been great, their specials (especially the fish) are awesome. Great cocktails too! Cannot wait for the renovation to be done so I can make another trip back to the old neighborhood!

Went here with a friend for dinner. The food was ok. I ad the crabcake sandwich. It's probably 1/3 the size of something I would order from a seafood restaurant. However, it was filled with lump crab meat so I can't complain too much. The ambiance is pretty nice though. Like one yelper wrote it looks like "Cheers" and with its wood panels and old fashioned decor, it does have a nice homey feel to it. It's a pretty small place, and the parking lot is a little bit small too, right next to a busy highway, so just be prepared to put in extra time to get to the place. In any case, not a bad place to kind of hang out. They didn't rush us out or anything, so that is always nice =)

Some friends suggested Old Hickory and I had a coupon from The Entertainment Book for $10 off ($50 or more purchase), So , why the heck not? This particular version of Old Hickory is in a strip center along a slightly seedy section of RT 198 in Burtonsville. I would never in a million years have thought to go in this place had it not been recommended by friends. It's a really nice place, though. The ambiance is nice. It was a Sunday night so it wasn't too crowded. The background music was very pleasant. Best of all, the food was good. It has a pretty large variety of food. Some of the old standards prepared in slightly different ways and some dishes that you wouldn't find in your run-of-the-mill chain. Four of us came here and four of us were pretty pleased with the service, the food and the atmosphere. It's not the cheapest place in town but it's definitely worth a visit.

Oh, I so wanted to give this place five stars. Every time I've been in The Old Hickory Grill, or Ted's Hickory Grill, as they now call it (apparently Ted's partner didn't pay the owed taxes on the place, so Ted had to re-open it under a new name/business), the food has been great. Good wait staff, also. They start you off with great complimentary appetizers- handmade biscuits and cornbread, and then move into tasty salads, entrees, and then desserts. Some of my favorite dishes include their meatloaf, ribs, seafood (great fish and shrimp), and steaks. Their sides are wonderful, too: whipped mashed potatoes, rice with sautéed onions done just right, straw fries, even onion rings which I generally abhor, are decent here. Good selection of milkshakes, too. I guess where they fall short is the atmosphere and seating; if you don't get a booth here, which is likely if they are busy (which they usually are), you're stuck either adjacent to the kitchen/serving area, or in the bar area. And even if you get a booth, the seating can be uncomfortable- we were seated in a booth the other night, and low and behold it didn't have a back rest, so you either have to sit up straight the entire time like you're in some military academy, or scoot your coat behind you for lumbar support. Go figure! So Ted, you got great food, just figure out the atmosphere and seating situation and I'll re-visit you shortly and bump you up to five stars. P.S.- and make sure you don"t fall behind on your taxes. I don"t want to lose you as a restaurant.

In the two times I've been recently the food was good, but not exceptional. The restaurant has changed ownership within the past month. The menu is somewhat limited with standard fare. The BBQ salmon was tasty and the pasta was adequate, not quite enough sauce. The serving size was good, enough for a doggy bag on the pasta dish, not for the salmon. The meat loaf was a good standard meatloaf. The new owner was saying he plans on expanding the menu soon. I'll go back to see how the new menu items are.
(4)james m.
friendly staff and customers. As previous reviewer, noted the cornbread muffins are just fabulous. I might go back just for the cornbread. It is, however, a BBQ joint, and the pulled pork, while plentiful, was not at all special. pulled pork is much better at Urban BBQ in Hillendale. service was slow. i may go back just for the corn muffins.
(3)Korin S.
The food was okay, but the overall experience wasn't that great. The menu said "kids eat free on Mondays with adult entree." We went for lunch with 3 adults and 3 kids. I asked the waitress "Does the kids eat free count with the lunch special?" She said yes. I was meaning if you order a lunch special as the entree, my friend interpreted it as you could order a lunch special as a kids portion. The food comes out and the portion for my friend's child was large. We asked the waitress about this and she checked her menu and said, "yes, the lunch is smaller than the dinner portion." This didn't really answer the question, but we continued eating. The check came and 2 kids meals were removed from the bill, but the lunch special was not. (This was a 1 year old child eating it, by the way.) The waitress said you couldn't order from the lunch menu for kids. NOW she says it. We asked the manager if she could just take off the $5.99 and we would pay the $2 difference. She said no. She said "I already gave you 2 free kids meals because the special is supposed to only apply to later in the day." (Nowhere on the menu was any time specified.) She wouldn't budge at all. This was my first time there and I probably won't go back. They only have 2 high chairs, the barbecue sauce isn't sweet or tasty, and the management's refusal to try to "make it right" when the majority of the error fell on the server kind of turned me off. The good things: The inside is a nice ambiance which you might not guess if you saw the outside (looks like a strip mall.) The food prices are reasonable. The kids eat free would be a good deal if they were clear internally on the policies, and the fish and chips looked very tasty.

I had their 1/2 rack rib dinner with a salad it was horrible. Ribs were overcooked, fatty with little lean edible meat. Salad was with limp old lettuce and nothing else. Service was marginal. Try Ruby Tuesday if you want a similar meal made with quality ingredients and good service. This place is overrated and not worth visiting.
(1)X J P.
If you live nearby and feel like having a few beers and some meat to go with those beers then check out the Old Hickory Grille. I'd say there are far better grills, but sometimes proximity beats flavor, especially when you are intent on washing those ribs down with plenty of alcohol. I've tried the country fried steak and the bbq sampler plate. The food was decent, not great. The beer selection was pretty good.
(3)Janet D.
Great service. Delish food. We had the calamari and onion straws as app's. Calamari was light and golden - not chewy at all. Onion Straws were crisp and plentiful even for the half-order. The sauce served with them was tangy and a hint of sweet. Chicken Cajun Sandwhich could easily serve two regular adults or one average growing teenager - served with a MOUND of shoestring fries (not a burnt one in the bunch). Country Fried Steak - thin and flavorful though a few too many onions for my hubbys taste. The garlic mashed are for sure home-made and full of flavor. Pecan Encrusted Catfish. Just lovely. I added the sauted spinach and mushrooms for an extra $2. Spinach and mushrooms were fresh with nice lemon flavor. Drop biscuts and corn bread were served warm with butter. They have a chocolate pecan pie - my favorite, Unable to try since I was stuffed from the portion size. Growing teenage son ordered brownie ice cream sundae - it could easily have fed 4. Hubby and I helped and we almost finished it. Great service, good food, friendly staff. Will go again. Do not be fooled by the location. Go, Now!

Hickory Grill finally has re-opened, now called Ted's Hickory Grille & Bar. There's a new phone number: 301-421-1110. The menu is similar to before.

Good food... under renovations right now so we'll see!

Normally I get tthe burgerand onion strips and am happy with it. Tonight I got the lamb chop special and DID NOT LIKE. My body has a sixth sense about telling me when NOT to east some food that might disagree with me and it told after one taste of lambchop STAY AWAY. Now I just get to wait 12 hours to see if I will be paying for that one taste for the next five days.

This is the Cheers of Burtonsville. Good food & a lot of it, yet pretty presentation, too. Good people. One of the owners, Cam, comes around and checks on his guests regularly. Jeff's cosmos & Kate's smile make the bar worthwhile for after work. Dinner with the family is great too. The homemade cornbread & biscuits are a great start. Calamari & fried oyster appetizers are my favorite. Chicken cheesesteak for lunch. And definitely their make.your own pasta - the rose' sauce is my favorite. If you don't feel like being creative with the pasta the Seafood Asparagus is the way to go. I usually go for late lunch into happy hour time frame on my own. Dinner with family or the kids. Dinner time can get really busy but service doesn't suffer. You might have to wait for a table as the place is small. The bar area is cozy with decent sized tvs placed just right. Good food, good people, good times.
(5)Eduardo S.
I thought this place was pretty average. It was a hot day and all the blinds were shut so it made it look closed from the outside... I had the Pulled Pork sandwich, and a side of Sauteed Squash & Zucchini. My pork was a little bit overcooked, but it was still pretty average tasting. My side of veggies had too much peppery seasoning on it, but it was also acceptable I suppose. Our waiter looked like Cliff O'Malley which was pretty funny. (the suicidal roommate from the movie Deadman on Campus)
(2)Kurt C.
This place is located right off of Old Columbia Pike, which always has busy traffic. Once you arrive, the restaurant looks like a warehouse from the outside. It's located in what seems to be a worn-down strip mall. The parking is very close and congested. The inside decor is typical pub - think Cheers. The staff is friendly. The prices are moderate. There is a bar on one side of the restaurant. The restaurant has a stale odor near the bar side. I ordered the cajun chicken sandwich entree with the strawberry shortcake for desert. The cajun chicken was very dry, on even dryer bread. The steak fries were just decent. The strawberry shortcake was not a cake at all. It was only what I can describe to be two thick dough biscuits, with a cup of vanilla bean ice cream, and a small side of strawberries and cream. I think this place is hit or miss - either you like it or you don't....I don't.
(2)Jacquelyn R.
I love going here because I love the owner, servers, bartenders and the fact its right down the street...I'm starting with a review here because this is what I ate today for lunch. I got food to go which was ready when I got there! My favorite meal here is a caeser salad and pasta with rosea sauce, but I love the ahi tuna as well!!! Today i switched it up and got the Jambalaya, an old time favorite of mine but today I wasnt too into it. They must've changed recipe and there wasn't any sausage in it and not enuff oopmh for my liking and a lil pricey, but that will not stop me from coming here!!!
(4)Brian C.
I want to love this place, but I find it hard! There's just nothing about it that screams, "we have to return here for the ____"! I had one of the chicken sandwiches, and it was ok... but barely. Again, I was hoping to like the place so we'd have a "place" to return to. Namely, one that had a decent looking bar. Oh and the drinks were really reasonably priced. I didn't try and appetizers, so the Hickory Grill might still be ideal for for a quick bite, and a ton of booze. It's a shame whoever owns the strip mall their didn't shell out for the "face lift" of the whole building. According to Montgomery County, if they pay to have it done, the county will reimburse them! Sounds like win win to me. I imagine if they ever renovate the exterior and change up the menu a bit... I'll be back!
(3)Bill B.
We used to go to this location and the one in Fairfax (when it was open) for breakfast fairly often. The food was always tasty and the menu is eclectic enough so if your taste buds want something a bit different, you'll probably find something to suit the craving. The service was a bit hit and miss but, the coffee always got to the table quickly so, no complaints there. I've had a few lunches there too and never had anything I disliked.
(3)Su K.
Old Hickory Grill, eh? Well, yes, they do grill their food (think cheese steaks not grill marks) and the combination of the decor and the strip mall it's located in does give the feeling of old, but there was no hickory to be found. Maybe the seats and tables are made of hickory. Is that a fair judgment? Well, I am a BBQ enthusiast, so whenever I hear the name of a tree, such as cherry or apple, I think, "Mmmmm...I wonder how cherry wood smoked ribs would taste?" So there is that bias. But for you casual diner, when you order an applewood salmon, you generally expect it to A) be cooked on applewood or B) have an applewood flavoring added to it. Based on the name, I thought we'd find some decent BBQ so of course I ordered the ribs. The BBQ sauce was bland, the ribs weren't tender or flavorful, and there wasn't a hint of hickory flavor. My wife ordered a non-memorable chicken dish as evidenced by my inability to remember any details about it other than the fact that it was chicken. Her dish was pretty good but as Jackie R. notes below, it's not an "OMG you have to go here place."

Blackened Chicken Poblano, might be the best thing I have ever had!! It's SOOOOOOO delicious!! It's spicy so if you don't like the heat, do not get it blackened. I like it w/ a side of sauteed spinach and mushrooms. SOOOO good! Also on a side note, the gyro for lunch is AMAZING!!

We have been coming to OHG ever since it opened through all of its owners and we really enjoy it and think the food is very good. Cameron owns it now and will do whatever it takes to make things right if there happens to be any issue. We find the menu imaginative since it picked up things along the way from each owner. There is pasta, seafood, greek food ( previous owner) and wonderful chicken. We have 4 kids who eat out A LOT and if you ask them where they would like to eat if there was only one place for the rest of their lives, it would be OHG because of the quality and the variety. Cameron catered a dinner for about 25 and it arrived all package properly, tastey and will everything we need to keep it hot and get it served. We were all very impressed.

Absolutely a great place for casual dining. Superb cajun, sandwiches, pork chops, etc. and they pour generous cocktails! Service is (almost) always good, prices are very reasonable, and Alki is just plain fun! A gem of a place hidden in a strip shopping center next to a gun store and tire place! Who would have thought? Another great find!

Tasty maginative food. Quite a pleasant surprise for a place that has a hole in the wall look from the outside.

If you're looking for a "Cheers" kind of place, this is the place for you. It may be a spot where the locals roam, but I assure you if your not "a regular" and you come in more then once in a week or two, they will recognize you and make you feel at home. The owner is a younger man, very friendly and attentive. Often you will see him bringing a plateful of appetizers or a new dessert he is trying out to the patrons at the bar. There are three TV's in the bar area, but none in the dinning part of the restaurant. The staff is welcoming and conscientious. I have never had a problem getting exactly what I want there. The food is all yummy, I don't have a favorite there is too much to choose from. The BBQ sauce is thin & vinegary, perhaps an acquired taste for some, but for others a delicious explosion of goodness. The Gyros are sliced straight off the rotisserie in the open kitchen. Complimentary fresh baked cornbread and buttermilk biscuits meet you at the table. They have awesome specials all week long. The drinks are always stiff and reasonably priced. The only downfall is the kitchen closes fairly early 9:30 most nights. The bar will stay active quite later then that. All the bartenders at OHG are awesome, they pour great drinks & conversation is never lacking. If you are in the area, this hidden treasure is definitely worth your time....if you can find it!

I use to go to lunch here a lot when I worked at Paint Branch High School. Everything was pretty good but definitely not a stand out "OMG you have to go here" place. Then again, Burtonsville is pretty small and there aren't many options. Most of the people who work there either still go or went to Paint Branch at some point.

I've been here many times and usually get a cheesesteak or chicken cheesesteak. They are both delicious. The service is ok and the place is clean.

Think "Locals" when you go here. It's off the beaten track in Burtonsville. I live there, so its easy for me to go there; I don't think anyone is going to go out of there way to eat at Old Hickory Grill. That being said, once you find the place, the staff is pretty happy, and the people in the bar seem to be having a good time. When you pull up to it, its hard to tell where its at--the windows are all covered by these long slats, and there's a glass door (it kind of looks like its closed, because its dark inside). Step into the bar area with tv's on sports, everyone's back to you at the bar. If its a Friday or Saturday evening, you might have to wait for a table. The decor is simple, and a little dingey--so don't go for the ambience. The food is okay. The salad is a little "damp;" the veggies fresh enough. The portions are a good size. So far, I've liked the crab cakes--big lumps of crab; some filler, but they're grilled and about the size of a hamburger, so generous enough. The filet mignon has been good; so has the meatloaf and the accompanying garlic mashed potatoes, fried onion strings, etc. So, good sized portions, not real cheap. You can get a sandwich-type thing for usually $7-$10; entrees tend to run around $18-$23. I've liked it for your average American food and the atmosphere. Kind of like a place I'd like to hang around...
