PRO: eclectic atmosphere, good cafe food, reasonable prices. CON: confused service, never cleared the previous patron's dirty dishes from the table. TIP: READ THE TIP FIRST! Proceed directly to the counter to place your order. Watch while the staff gives you no guidance on placing the order, when to pay, if they will bring your food etc. Midway through your order they will walk away to work on a previous order.

Been back a few times recently, and the coffee seems much better. All the funky ambiance remains, and the sandwiches are good (might take a little time to make, though).

"I wish we had a place like this near us." - Mrs. Chris D. So what if it feels like you traveled to a land called Honahlee the moment you step through the doors. So what if it's likely to be patronized by people who appear to live on the fringe on society. So what if you're likely to see a role playing game unfolding at the table next to you. All these things are a sign you're not in your neighborhood McStarCaribou and that's a good thing unless you thrive in uniformity. The employees are pleasant. The food is good. The coffee is better. The wifi is free. Grab a table, sip your favorite drink and stop rushing all over the damn place. Sometimes the best things in life are when you aren't really doing anything at all... and Beans seems to encourage that without really trying.

Wonderful little place! Great coffees and milkshakes. Love the sandwiches & being able to order wine too! & the music :)
(5)Jim B.
Excellent java! The pies are five star. Great combo anytime. Friendly staff, good tunes, homey ambience. Hang out here with your laptop and you will eventually produce the Great American Novel. What a find!
(5)Byron S.
Delicious panini and very good coffee in this cool transformed Church. Very neat and owner is very nice. Go to coffee spot in Brunswick.
(5)Anthony I.
Paradise found, on a trip back from one of our favorite b & b's we needed some caffeine, this place more than fit the bill. The charm of this place, from the venue itself to the live music to the food, this place is pretty freaking awesome! As far as coffee shops go, this is what it is all about! Perfect vibe, awesoem voffee and amazing food!
(5)Corey W.
Unique little spot near the river in Brunswick. Worth a drive to see and experience. Try to go on a Friday or Saturday night; llive local music can be anything from cover acoustic to local "big band" type music. Good for kids as long as their is live music. Can be a nice quiet place; so I feel bad bringing in my rowdy-ass kids while others are trying to relax and work/study. All in all, great place - and they serve Flying Dog.
(4)Daisy M.
A great, mellow hide out with amazing food. The Bombay pita is spectacular! The Italian sodas are also worth getting. A true gem of Brunswick.
(4)Ken B.
Great little place. Good coffee, great sandwiches. Go: you won't regret it!
(5)Brenda A.
It's hard not to love this place - it is so unique and unexpected in terms of the atmosphere. How can you beat a coffee shop in an old church? It's worth visiting on that basis alone. On top of that, the coffee and food items are good. Some things might be a hair on the pricey side - but it's not unreasonable considering all else. We've been back a few times!
(5)Heather J.
I love this place. I was in the area for the weekend and looked on trusty ol' Yelp for advice on where to go and what to do. Beans in the Belfry came up in the list and I noticed that it was a cafe in what used to be a church. I thought the concept sounded interesting and wanted to give it a try. Well, it turns out we drove right by it on our way to Harper's Ferry, so we stopped in for my coffee fix and some sandwiches to take with us on our hike. I was amazed by the place as soon as we walked in. It is perfectly decorated - cozy and welcoming. The owners were there and they just couldn't have been nicer. When we told them we were going to hike near Harper's Ferry, the owner told us the bugs had been really bad lately and asked if we had bug spray. When we said we didn't bring any, she went out to her car and brought back hers, and told just just to leave it behind the shop when we got back. Well, we used it and gave it right back, but I almost wish we had taken it with us so that we would have had an excuse to come back later. On top of all that, the sandwiches were excellent and we enjoyed our bug-free hike. And I got so wrapped up in looking around the shop and talking to the owners that I forgot to order my coffee - so you know it HAD to be good. Do yourself a favor and check it out!
(5)Amanda F.
YOu gotta give this place props. It is SO cool a coffee bar in an old church? Live music? WHy are you not in Baltimore? Never feel rushed, bring my knitting get a coffee and listen to jazz. Love that places like this are around to combat the same old starbucks. Come support a local business and keep creative, fun places in business.
(5)Shelley K.
This cafe in a converted church is unique and cozy. It is fun to just walk in and look around at the architectural details and decorations. The main dining area is open, with a high ceiling, stained glass windows, and diverse seating areas, some separated by screens or different floor levels. I love to visit and imagine that I live there. Whimsical touches, such as an old bathtub used as a drink cooler, abound. I love to poke around and climb up the stairs to the balcony. I'm not really sure if I'm supposed to do that, but I like high places and secret hiding spaces. The red bathroom is fun, too. There are fun things for kids to play with, such as toys and dress-up costumes, although keeping the little ones from getting their fingers into everything is a constant job. The coffee and food are good, but the real attraction is the place itself. Desserts are yummy. Live music on Sundays (?) adds a nice touch. This is a great destination for when you want to sit back and enjoy something different.
(4)Allison D.
Stopped by today during a Sunday drive to pick up a cup of coffee to go and ended up sitting around for about an hour just because this place is so freakin' cool. We're probably going to stop back in for breakfast next weekend because I'm a sucker for sausage gravy and biscuits and the food that I saw coming out of the kitchen looked pretty good. I'd also love to stop back by when they have a band.
(4)Felicia W.
Locals rave about it. I can see why. It's what a coffee/tea place should be. Cozy, friendly with good service, yummy food and kid friendly. A lot to ask for one little place, but it makes my list of places of I-will-drive-hours-to-enjoy. I went for the first time yesterday. I could tell my kids were happy when they easily flopped on the comfy cushions on one of the benches. For moms, it's totally kid friendly. They have a dress up/costume trunk for the kids to play in. There's even a football helmet that has the logo for Beans in the Belfry. There's a cute dollhouse for kids to play with too and my 2 year old loved that. The live music was enjoyable and my kids chatted up the musician afterwards. And he was friendly and didn't mind their questions. So that's cool in my book. The tea! I'm not a coffee drinker, so I can't vouch for the coffee but the tea I loved. They serve Mighty Leaf's brand and I had the Pear Caramel, loose leaf. Yum! Even stood on its own without cream and sugar. The food! I asked the barista guy what would be a good choice of food for a first timer. He suggested the Molten Lava Cake a la mode. And he was right. Decadent and perfect. But I have a feeling any of the food choices they offered, I would have been pleased with. The decor is quirky chic. A purple porcelain bath tub is loaded with ice that keeps the soda. Green walls with purple ceiling. Old pictures and books everywhere. And the perfect reading chairs and sofas. You look around and see the stained glass windows and realize it all fits as it should be. I asked my kids can we go back. All 3 said yes. Beans in the Belfry people, can you make this a franchise????
(5)Fern G.
I just wanted to say that I gasped and gawked when I first walked in the double doors and and observer said, "First time here?" with a knowing smile. The food (best biscuits and gravy) is so, so, so good. This is a bit of a divergence, but for those who care about such things...my boyfriend luuuurves the bathroom. (This doesn't warrant any star demerits but a suggestion for to-go cups is cardboard rather than styrofoam.)
(5)Blaire R.
Great atmosphere, service was good. Lots of delicious options for food, coffee, and other drinks. Love the kids menu!
(4)Nicole M.
It's too bad I will never come back here again because I thought this was the cutest touristy coffee shop to visit.
(4)Whitney M.
This is a great little gem in the town of Brunswick, MD. Beans in the Belfry is a church turned coffee shop, complete with a little Net Cafe located in the choir loft. Cushy chairs, sofas, sushions, and some original pews make up a rag-tag and eclectic mix of customer seating. Sunday's are devoted to Jazz Brunch, but honestly, you can probably find live musicians soulfully filling the place with bluegrass, jazz, and other musical genera on just about any night of the week. Their coffee / tea selection is good, definitely equal (if not better) than your generic Starbucks Big Box coffee shop. And there is always a bunch of assorted pastries in the case. However, the best part of Beans is that they have real food! Their home-made paninis, soups, and quiche is to die for!! Personally, I recommend the Lorraine Quiche and the Chicken Tortilla soup. Wifi is free here, so even if you have to get a little last minute work done while you unwind it's no charge to you.
(4)Jim E.
I just wanted to step up to the plate for Beans in the Belfry and offer a few positive observations for those of you who may have read the negative review from the guy from Sharpsburg who ranted about the coffee; I am from the DC area; I have visited this wonderful establishment at least half a dozen times now and I have turned numerous friends on to it also - all of whom have been charmed and satisfied. I won't go into the many reasons why we like Beans in the Belfry as others here have already done that with elegance and freqency. I will say that if you are a coffee fanatic who's going to brow beat the "regular people off the street" who work here, if you are going to ignore the atmosphere - the quiet, respectful clientele, the unique ambiance imparted by the colors, fixtures, furniture, architecture, etc - if you're going to ignore the excellent food, the great entertainment and superb location in a classic, historic MD river town just because you're worried about your coffee's "brew temp", well...maybe you really should hunt down a Starbucks instead.
(5)Mom S.
This place is so unexpected in old Brunswick - but how welcome they are by locals for sure - and all the people who know about it from the canal hiker/bikers to tourists in general. I have a favorite - the Roma Pannini, and have been known to drive from Frederick, MD to Brunswick just because I have the taste of that sandwich and have to have it. Atmosphere is great- can sit for hours and read, study, or internet surf, and no one bothers you. Besides, the coffee is as good as it comes. Watch out for the parking tickets, it is easy to lose track of time, and a pain to go to the police station to pay the fine.
(5)Nicky R.
Sometimes it's nice to take a drive outside of the city and cruise beyond the x-burbs. We may fail to remember that what lays outside of the hills of DC is not the Earth's edge, but a trove of relics of past wars, industrialization and subtle ways of life. Beans in the Belfry is located in Brunswick, Maryland. It's housed by a 100 year-old church that's a stone's throw from the local MARC station, (and slightly more than a stone's throw from Harper's Ferry, WV). This cafe offers a full range of non-alcoholic drinks, sweet tidbits, vegetarian & gluten free fare, a delightful twice-weekly British tea service and jazz brunch on Sundays! This place was my saving grace last spring. The natural light pouring through the stained glass windows, softly-lit lamps sparsely present, comfortable seating and medium-dark sea green walls has provided me on a few occasions with a calming atmosphere to read and write. (It's a great place to do this on Sunday afternoons.) Similar to the American Bison, the locally owned American coffee shop is a dying breed. Beans in the Belfry is the golden buffalo.
(5)Peter N.
An amazing little coffee/food spot. The service was absolutely wonderful and the food was great. If you are coming up the trail and need a place to grab some coffee and rest your tired legs this is the place to do it. The barista recommended the turkey panini and it was excellent. Don't miss this on your trip through.
(5)Karl M.
Great coffee shop. Food is light fare only, but is the best you're going to find in Brunswick. Service can be slow, especially when they're busy, but it's worth the wait. Live music, free wi-fi, cozy atmosphere, highly recommended.
(4)Amy F.
I'd been wanting to check this place out for a while and can't believe I put it off for so long. I was missing out on so much! A friend and I went for the first time to open mic night tonight. We expected it to be like most open mic nights everywhere else where a lot of the entertainment comes from watching people perform badly. Not here. There is a enormous amount of talent in this area. We were amazed by some of the seriously moving performances, as well as some that made me fight the urge to get up and start dancing. It included a man who I swear was Kenny Rodgers in hiding and another man who sounded EXACTLY like Roy Orbison. There was also a woman with a deep, raspy, perfectly-imperfect voice who performed in such a beautifully intense way it could bring someone to tears. We were welcomed to join some delightful strangers at a table who we chatted with briefly between performers. Everyone seemed so friendly there. I had the ginger-peach iced tea ($2.55 with free refills) and it was delicious, but not as good as my friend's tropical iced tea. We didn't get a chance to order food since we chose to eat at a local BYOB taco house, but the food looked fantastic. It was mostly around $5-10 for a light dinner/full lunch. Since there was only one person working as the barista/chef, the service was slow, though friendly, but the speed didn't matter because we were fully entertained while waiting. Everything else about this place makes up 100 times over for the slow service. I highly recommend making the long drive out to Brunswick for this place, especially is there is live music playing.
(5)Ed B.
I love this place its funky-comfortable and the food is good.
(4)Melanie Y.
oh my gawd.. i came here for a meeting and ordered the mocha and breakfast croissant. i didn't expect a huge dollop of whip cream with chocolate swirls on top of my yummy mocha or the flaky croissant with yummy bacon and eggs. Not to mention, the awesome interior with stained glass, high ceilings and all sorts of knick-knacks that makes this place one of a kind. If you're in the area, then it's a great place to stop by and warm up. =) Since my future meetings will most likely be held there again, I'd definitely come back for sure.
(4)Tom S.
Wow! Coolest coffee shop I've ever been in. And the panini sandwiches were fabulous. A must when your in Brunswick
(5)Shannon W.
Very, Very cool place. I'd go here EVERY time I pass through this little town. The atmosphere is PHENOMENAL and all of this for the price of a cup of coffee (and a great cup on top of that!). I can't say enough about this place.
(5)Kristi W.
Fantastic! Awesome laid back atmosphere, great gluten free options and yummy tea selections. I'm obsessed with this place! A must try if you are in the area. Being that this place is located in an old church, it gives it so much more character. ******************Gluten free bagel and lox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG
(5)Scott D.
Best place to eat in Brunswick, bar none. The music venue is awesome. The atmosphere is perfect. The leather sofas, comfy chairs and stained glass really make you feel welcomed. I can't believe more locals won't give this place a try. On second thought, nevermind them.
(5)Jeff B.
5 stars based on food + atmosphere. The spinach dip was amazing. The veggie panini was great. The Roma panini was very good but needed to be melted a bit more. Would come again.
(5)Julia M.
OMG we have never tasted a better panini in our. Worth the trip. Eclectic place in the middle of who knows where with great food. Try the Turkey pr Brie/cranberry Panini and you won't be disappointed. Friendly staff and beautiful bathroom window :-) Hope to return again....... Oops I forgot the Pecan Pie was also great for dessert.
(5)Ling W.
The bowls of chili here are generous servings, though they unfortunately don't come in vegetarian form. The two little cornbread muffins that accompany the dish are amazing, and make you want to try making them yourself at home. The quiche is also freshly made and satisfying yet not heavy. The pies are a highlight - when we visited, they had caramel apple, pecan, blueberry, and blueberry lemon meringue pies. It's also a cute and festive atmosphere, with an assortment of knick knacks along the walls and hats hanging 20 feet up the walks. A welcome stop on the ride from DC to Harper's Ferry!
(5)Beata K.
This is pretty much the only place to eat in downtown Brunswick so luckily it was a great find. It's a very eclectic cafe/restaurant in an old church that has a comfortable and easy feel to it. When you walk in there are lots of different couches and tables scattered around and the you order at the counter. It was farm to fork week when we were there so we got the gazpacho which was really good and had lots of vegetables in it and the vegetable panini which wasn't anything special...they used regular white bread so if it was on a grain bread it would be much better. Off of the regular menu we got the curry chick salad which was really good and the salad to bread ratio was spot on (more salad), we got the strawberry shortcake dessert which was frozen in the middle and pretty disappointing and the iced chai which was super tasty. Additionally there wasn't a lot of staff to clear the tables so many empty tables bad plates and leftovers on them which isn't that appealing to look at.
(4)John S.
Beautiful space in an old church. It's too bad the service and the food don't match. Don't get me wrong: Beans is trying really hard to be a comfortable spot. The people are friendly and I admire their spirit. But during Sunday brunch it took us forever to be served and when we were served I did not get what I ordered and my wife's eggs were cold. I would have sent them back had it not been that we waited so long. You are probably better off getting a coffee and a pastry, something simple and enjoying the space. It really is quite beautiful in there and you get a nice creative vibe.
(3)Chuck S.
Unique! Unique! Unique! Just a short walk off the C and O Canal ' Famous Tow Path, this repurposed church is a fantastic beverage and lite fare stop you won't want to miss. Trust me, you'll tell your friends!
(5)Don L.
What a treat. A perfect light lunch (panini and salad) in a beautiful setting. A 7-piece group was playing random old-time fiddle-folk tunes in the corner of the huge space but we had no problem hearing each other. Newspapers were available for browsing free. A delightful place. And the panini was really good - clearly made from scratch.
(5)Danielle A.
My heart exploded when I walked in. It's everything I could want and then some. I would live here... seriously... let me know if the place is ever up for sale. I had no words while I ate my chili (good food) because I was too enamored with the place to even realize I was eating. Did I have anything to drink? I can't remember because I was just staring around at the place. I wanted to climb the ladder into the bell tower but figured Beans in the Belfry didn't want a casualty on their hands. We were traveling around looking for wedding venues and I was tempted to just stop here! Check it out, it's a MUST see.
(5)Laura W.
I couldn't love this little place more if I tried. The whole idea is fabulous -- an old church turned coffeehouse, complete with choir loft (now used as extra seating). We stopped in on our way back from tubing in Harpers Ferry to get some coffee for the road. I wish we had been hungry as there were some curious and delicious sounding sandwiches and other goodies on the menu. The coffee was fresh and tasty and staff very friendly. I look forward to another visit, for sure.
(5)Adam L.
Stumbled in here while biking the C&O and had an unbelievable experience. We spent the day biking through sleet and rain and were exhausted by the time we got to Brunswick. Stopped in for some chili and hot cocoa and it was delicious. One of the staff noticed our plight, and because there was no place to stay in town, offered us a ride to Harper's Ferry. INCREDIBLY NICE AND GENUINE PEOPLE. If that gesture isn't enough to win your business, the place was also has an awesome design (old church), great food, and drinks too.
(5)Matthieu K.
When there is a McStarbucks on every corner, this is what we lose. I wish coffee houses like this were the norm, not the pleasant and memorable exception. Live music, great clientele (makes for spectacular people watching), good coffee, good food and dessert, and a really interesting atmosphere ... What's not to like? Must see if you are passing through, shame on you if you're local and not a regular.
(5)Bob M.
Great little coffee place in downtown Brunswick. Great coffee, all kinds of different teas. Small things to eat, not really any "meal" type food. Really unexpected little place in the middle of an otherwise sleepy town.
(5)Kevin F.
We stopped in here while wandering through Potomac river towns on an overcast fall day. Ended up staying several hours for the Jazz Brunch and enjoyed good food, great coffee, and good (but not overwhelming) music.. The friendly and relaxed service put us in a peaceful mood. The stained glass got us thinking. And the pie was great!
(4)Karishma P.
Lovely little church that has bean converted into a quirky little coffee shop. We went there after our morning hike in the mountains.
(3)jack d.
The best coffee-shop in Maryland, why are you so far away from where I live? Located in a former church, it's amazingly well decorated with light flowing though the stained glass windows onto various couches and chairs. We arrived on Sunday to find a 3-piece group playing songs with pep but, not so loud as to aggravate a hangover.
(5)Lisa C.
Out favorite hang out in town! Great for bringing the kids and enjoying a nice meal with friends or just dropping in for a gourmet coffee! They now offer beer and wine too! Their historic building is a remodeled church which is very spacious and super cool!
(5)Erika K.
Excellent Reuben sandwich. Bottle and can beer. Check soup specials. Kids abound and will love the live music. Unpretentious. Street meter parking or use the commuter lot down by the tracks - 2 block walk. WiFi, just ask for access ID.
(5)D H.
This place is fantastic. When I moved to the area I had seen people rave about this place. So I checked it out. The sandwiches are good as is their drinks. Now whenever I have friends come down to visit me I usually take them here. They always compliment how the interior looks. My suggestion is make sure you're not in a rush. It can get a little slow. But every time I've been there it's only one or two people who are making the food and taking orders. Either way having a seat inside checking out all the stuff around you is part of the experience.
(5)Kurt B.
Was looking for lunch and was unsure about the sandwich place in a old church but great sandwichs great staff ill be back soon!!!
(4)Joseph G.
Wish I lived closer. Wonderful. Great staff. Cool vibe. Good music. Bucolic locale.
(5)Frank N.
This little Gem of a place surprised me when i first walked in. it's a BEAUTIFUL atmosphere!! i would probably give three stars based upon the mood and ambiance alone..... I've been here three times now. After the first visit, I've gone out of my way to return. I consider the deserts to be delicious and the coffee 'just right'
(5)Martin S.
Cute little cafe my sister in law discovered. We stopped in on the way to Harper's Ferry on Jazz Sunday. It was full but not to full for us to seat ourselves at the big table, there were 8 of us. I had the Bombay pita, which was a curried chicken salad on a pita and was great. I'd eat another right now if I was there. Funky little non chain place that is just what I keep an eye out for.
(4)Paula F.
Really good homemade food at a reasonable price, has local musicians who perform, newspapers, an eclectic atmosphere and has free wifi. Can be noisy with kids because there is a play area. Good for birthday parties for kids. The quiche is awesome.
(4)Amber M.
Perfect Sunday Brunch spot! Live music. The Bagel and lox are great and brunch includes a starter and dessert. The staff go out of their way to make everyone feel at home.
(5)Aviva D.
A quick update: I got a very kind apology from management shortly after this incident. I've been back several times since and have had only pleasant experiences! Thanks Beans for handling this so warmly and professionally!
(5)Terra A.
It's an interesting place, and for first-timers, it can be a bit jarring when you first walk in. I can understand how the loud banjo music might not be for everyone, but the architecture in here is cool, and I seriously just had the best damn raspberry shortcake I've ever had in my life. (And for me, that's saying something, because I do love cake!) I came here with a group, some of whom ordered food, and their plates made me want to order some for myself! Next time, I will--and there will definitely be a "next time" for me :) (I didn't give it a five for two reasons: one, I only had a chai and a slice of cake, so I'm not exactly well-versed on the menu, and two, the service was a little slow. I actually briefly wondered if I was standing in the right place! Worth it, though.)
(4)Toni Y.
Still amazing.enjoyed our paninis, drinks and dessert. Never disappoints and really enjoy the local talent.
(5)David T.
This place is pretty magical. A coffee shop that serves good coffee in an old church. The friendly staff, large space, and ample amount of couches welcomes you to stay a while. Another fantastic find thanks to yelp reviewers.
(5)Kait M.
Beans in the Belfry is gorgeous. Even now that I live so far away, I love taking family and friends there for lunch. I have also enjoyed several local artists there. The food is simple but very good. I suggest allowing yourself a little extra time to explore this place. Overall: great atmosphere, always wonderful staff, and a gorgeous and quiet area to talk and enjoy raspberry chai tea.
(5)Oliver J.
I want to give this place a two star; however, the manager/owner needs to take note of this review; BIG TIME. I think this place is incredibly over-rated. I just don't get it. This place and the decor was gorgeous. Loved all the stained glass windows. The service was fine, although forgettable. We came here for Sunday brunch. At 10am, they weren't serving it, which we could have seen on the website ahead of time, which is our fault. The chef apparently doesn't get there till 11am, however we could still order off their breakfast menu, but they only had "easy eggs" and "no frying pan." No thanks to microwaved non-farm fresh eggs. I expected far more for a well reviewed restaurant in an area dotted with farms. I ordered the biscuits with sausage gravy. I should have asked for my money back. It tasted exactly like cream of mushroom soup (the condensed kind) with bits of sausage in it. I'm almost certain it was that soup because it was way over salted. I can't stress enough how disappointed I was. It was gross. I asked the employee how it was made and he said "I don't know, our owner/manager brings it in." Also, the biscuits didn't taste very flavorful and the butter was bland Sysco. I tried the coffee and quiche, which came with greens. The coffee perfectly good and the quiche was meh... good taste of mushrooms, however, it was the last slice in the cooler fridge and it tasted like it might have been made on a Monday or Tuesday. I'd happily come back for coffee and to relax, as its a gorgeous comfortable spot, however, if you expect fresh or good quality food, I can't give you my vote of confidence. I would never order food here again. This is the second one star review I have done in my 90 something reviews on yelp thus far.
(1)D W.
Every town should have a place like this. If only we could be so lucky! This is the kind of place where you walk in and say, "if I were to open my own place, it'd be just like this." Old wooden furniture, lots of pillows, stained glass windows, and a choir loft. Like something out of a quirky but cool movie. Excellent service, and the blueberry muffin and coffee cake were delicious. Very fresh and nicely served. Great stop after wandering around Harper's Ferry (just about 10-15 minutes away).
(5)Amy S.
This entire building is art. There's no describing it unless you go inside. It's a remodeled church turned cafe with tons of space for hanging out on couches, playing board games, sitting and reading, etc. There's a children's corner for playing (but it's not at all loud). Whoever designed the interior is a creative genius: the paint and the decorations are gorgeous. The food is excellent, too, with generous portions: soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza, and so many amazing pastries and pies. Excellent coffee selection. A treasure house that you must see to believe.
(5)Tyler W.
Super cool place. It is in a old church and has a great vibe. Lots of comfy chairs and couches as well as the usual tables. Food is great, I have had a bunch of sandwiches here and they did not disappoint. Prices are good too. They have all these flavors you can add to drinks, I got a lemonade with raspberry and it was a tasty drink that hit the spot. If I am in the area again I will definitely return.
(5)Katie H.
Talk about convenient! Not only is this place charming but they had drinks I could consume (gluten/dairy free customer here) with options of either coconut or almond milk along with clearly outlined gluten free foods on the menu. A rare gem indeed!!!
(5)Scott K.
Amazing panini sandwich. I'd drive back just for another one.
(5)Patrick A.
Great stop for cider and beer (or coffee and tea) on the c & o canal trail. The interior is beautiful. Great service. We spent the better part of a day in the place waiting out a storm.
(5)Kara M.
Had breakfast here in February. Definately worth the gorgeous drive. Everything was fresh and delicious! The space is gorgeous :)
(4)Hannah H.
This place is SO cute - it's a church converted into a coffee joint - they have some cute things to sell, such as keychains, stationery, little toys, jewelry, etc. I love the clawfoot bathtub filled with ice, containing some of the beverages they sell. The place itself is spacious, with large tables, random pieces of tables and shabby chic sofas and chairs to relax, chit-chat, study, and/or do work. I tried their Iced Chai drink, and it was the right amount of spice - delicious-tasting icy slushee drink. They also have pastries available, like croissants, lemon bars, muffins, and rice krispie drinks; I've heard that their entrees are good, too. There are metered parking up along the Potomac St, and this place is located in a very quite historic town of Brunswick. +converted church into a cafe +iced Chai drink - slushee

I've stopped in only once for a basic $3.00 cup of coffee. That's 50% more than sbux . . . Yes, way better coffe at Beans, but $ 3.00 seemed high to me.

Whenever they actually give a man (mainly me) some quiche (yes, I know real men are not supposed to eat that stuff), I may go back and write a new review. But, for now, my two visits here have not produced any of the stuff (including one time in the early morning) and I have been forced to buy more expensive things off of their menu to fill me up. And there are some pretty pricey selections on their menu for a coffee shop. The cheapest main runs about $8.00. But this is more than just a coffee shop so it's excusable I guess. They have a wonderful concert space (that doubles as a children's play area) and free concerts with some moderately popular bands. If you're into the folk or bluegrass scene in D.C., this is a cool place to catch a show. Though don't sit too far away from the stage or people will be talking right through the music. Also finding parking in Brunswick on the weekend involves a bit of climbing. Of course I'm smitten by the architecture here since they repurpose the church so perfectly. They kept so many of the original details and turned them into seating areas that it really is still like grabbing a tea or coffee in a working church. And the stained glass windows by themselves provide entertainment for diners and sippers. Stopping by here on the way to a hike on the C&O Canal, they were friendly and it served as a good jumping off point to fuel up and drink some strong breakfast tea (I poured some into my water bottle, don't tell). If only I didn't have to order a lunch sandwich for around $10.00 when all I wanted was a starter. Come on, people, get it together of the rations of quiche!

A lot of reviews covered the awesomeness of this place -- unique architecture and music. The food is good, but not knock your socks off. They pastry selection is average -- I had the cheese, peach danish which was excellent. We also came here for Sunday brunch, which was good, but $18 good? Eehhhhh, me thinks not. This place is a sold 4 stars. I really don't think people who give this place five stars have had more than a fleeting experience OR walked in on the perfect day and ordered the perfect thing. Same goes for 3 stars -- they must have ordered something horrible OR had some other issue -- like service.

In an old church, I love it!!! I am riding my bicycle cross country and stopped in here for electricity and WiFi. I got a today beef & cheddar with some mighty fine Italian wedding soup, absolutely hit the spot! Definitely a worthwhile destination if you're within a hundred miles, the whole town has a lot of charm!

It's like the living room you've only dreamed of, the people your song always seems to live for, immersed in the music your heart thrives on, in the world you only dream of.

We were staying in Brunswick at a hotel and were searching for a place for dinner. Glad we found this place. Unique location in an old church, plenty to look at while we were waiting to order and waited for our dinner. A bit of a wait to order. You stand in line to order at the cash register. We were able to peruse the menu and decide before we got to the register. There was a lot to look at and we weren't in a hurry, so we didn't mind. Placed our order and went to find a seat. There are tables and also couches with coffee tables. We picked the end of a long table with people sitting at the other end. As we awaited our food, we enjoyed a performer playing wooden flutes. Very interesting and we enjoyed it a lot. He even had a song where he passed out various percussion instruments for the crowd to participate. Food came and it was good. We had a crab dip which was a bit oily on top, but very delicious. I had a salad, which consisted of two quarters of iceberg lettuce, tomato wedges with blue cheese and bacon crumbles. It was drizzled in balsamic and then had a small cup with blue cheese dressing. It was fabulous. My son had a panini. It looked good but he wasn't as thrilled, just not his taste, nothing wrong with the sandwich. We had Italian cream sodas. I had never had that before, they were good. We enjoyed the atmosphere. I would recommend this spot.

Very beautiful space, I would live to catch a live music event here. It is like your living room, but better decorated and someone else does the dishes...

We went here after spending the afternoon at a local adventure center. This place was fantastic. Prices were reasonable, EXTREMELY kid friendly, with some toys for younger kids, dress up items for older kids, Italian sodas, live music on Sundays, and the bread with the sandwiches was absolutely delicious. We found them on yelp, and echo the other positive reviews. Lovely gem.

We originally came here when we were biking the C&O Canal. It was day 3 and we were tired, hungry and thirsty. We stopped here and had an amazing lunch. The people were so nice and service was great! Now to present day...I just got engaged there and the owner, Melanie, was so helpful in planning for the proposal!! She helped me get in touch with the band, who were in on the proposal, and helped me buy my fiance's favorite flower. The food is your standard cafe food but it tastes sooooo good! The place is a restored church and the stained glass windows create an ambiance that is great! Go visit these people, I totally recommend it! Thanks Melanie!!

This place seems to effortlessly achieve what many American restaurants/coffee houses/ pubs attempt but often fall short of. They've succeeded in creating an intimate, charming, and unique space that compels you to visit as often as possible. While the wonderful space they've created in this old church is the main attraction, the food and drink are also worthy of praise. I highly recommend the biscuits and gravy, and this is coming from a "deep south" native who takes his biscuits and gravy very seriously. Their breakfast sandwiches, reuben sandwich, and chili are also can't-miss options. And be sure to save room for a slice of one of their many pies. Kudos to them for their support of the local arts through their concert series.

Five stars becaues it is THE only place I've been to for coffee that has coconut milk. I don't do rice, soy, dairy etc., so it was SO awesome when I asked if they had coconut milk and they said yes. They also have gluten free brownies and cookies. I haven't eaten any other food there.

What a great place in a small little area in downtown Brunswick. This use to be an old church. They serve little food and some great pastrys. Also the milkshake was delicious,. Coffee, tea, Hot chocolate, milkshakes, ice creams, pastries, salads, soups and more. They also have live entertainment playing. I will come back again for sure to try more things on their menu...

Ordered the triple Americano. It's the best if had to date. My wife ordered another coffee drink and felt the same. The pastries were very rich and fresh. If I had to complain about one thing, they forgot our food order. I'm sure it was just a slip. We didn't even care really. We're back again today.

What a gem we happened to come across.. Thanks to Yelp! We were driving home, tired from a long day in Virginia and needed coffee. Beans in the Belfry happened to be on our way home. It was a Saturday afternoon ~ 5 p.m. and there was barely a hush in the quiet town of Brunswick when we parked in front of the coffee shop. There were a few people in the coffee shop at that time. As you can see from the photos, the building is a beautiful old church converted into a coffee shop. Stained glass cast colorful light on an array of shabby chic furniture (sofas and tables) to lounge on or quietly work on a laptop as you enjoyed coffee. Even the bathroom was gorgeous. The iced coffee we had was bold and strong. Service was friendly. We walked around and discovered that they offer music on weekend nights and Sunday brunch. They serve alcohol as well. We will return. I wish we lived close-by. Couldn't give it a five star yet b/c of my limited experience but may revise once I go back.
