Food was delivered hot. Vegetables were crisp in the dish not soggy. It literally is your all American corner store Chinese food restaurant. Living in Hawaii for the past five years and not having a Chinese restaurant there this really hit the spot.

This is my go to place for take-out Chinese food. The prices are reasonable, the food is always delicious and it's made in a timely fashion. It looks a bit seedy when you enter, but it's actually not. The staff is somewhat friendly and accomodates most requests. I always order the shrimp lo mien and I'm never disappointed. I would prefer coming here than Grace's Fortune across the street for a quick meal. Sure, it's not as fancy as Grace's, but the food portions and the prices can't be beat. On the other hand, if I want to have a nice sit down Chinese dinner, I will go to Grace's. China Chef has daily lunch specials and depending on how much your order totals, you can get free egg rolls, spring rolls, entrees, sodas...etc. They also deliver.

I'm not sure what the competition for Chinese take out is in Bowie, but I will say that this place has passable food. Overall- it's a tad bland, but it's passable, really. A friend home from the hospital wanted food from there; we might have overlooked it due to the way the storefront looks, but we didn't, and were rewarded with fairly good food. What's good? Dumplings are great. Hot and sour soup- slightly bland. Chicken cashew- looks very healthy to eat- not as much chicken in it as some. Butterfly Shrimp is prepared, well, kind of foo yung style, with a egg batter in it. The bacon in with the shrimp made it really tasty, but the bacon itself should have been fried just a little before being put in the mix. Plenty of shrimp, and good sized, too. Tails were on. The Pork with Vegetables- pork was kind of tough, and I don't know why. Again, a tad bland. Otherwise, fine. All portions are good. Food containers used were great. They will supply styrofoam plates and plastic utensils on request. Biggest complaint, and reason for only three stars? The restaurant looked like the family running it were a little overwhelmed. Nothing on the walls, one wall could use a coat of paint, all the drinks and jackets were piled in a corner behind the counter, the two refrigerators were just kind of wheeled into a corner and plugged in. In other words, as cozy as if you walked into a Dominos to pick up your pizza. Now, I'm not one to complain a lot about a family that's obviously working very hard here. Prices are reasonable. The food DOES come recommended. NOTHING was oversalted. The portions were good, but not hugely generous. Give it a try, and ask them to make it a little spicer, and you may well have a nice find here. And, heck, they do deliver, too!

We have gotten carryout/delivery from China Chef so many times, I'm surprised there haven't been more reviews. This is your basic neighborhood Chinese carryout. We've tried the egg rolls (nice and crispy), steamed dumplings (tasty, though a little heavy on the dough for my taste, but the sauce is so good I could just drink the container down), and shrimp toast (which I find greasy, though we keep ordering it!!). We've also gotten the pu-pu platter several times, but I think we're better off when we order the individual appetizers, since both the teriyaki beef stick and fried wonton can be tough. Soups are good (wonton, egg drop, hot and sour). The main courses are typical Chinese fare, ample portion sizes, fairly priced. We've also tried the 8-piece jumbo Shrimp "American Entree". It's served over very plain fried rice, but it's enough food for two adults, especially if you started with an appetizer (there's always enough to split those, too). Delivery is usually very prompt, and food arrives hot, plus you can give them a credit card when you place your order. Bottom line: it's not an A, and it's not an F, but it's a good solid option when you want food delivered to your door, and you don't feel like cooking. One other note: this is in the shopping center where the 'old' Safeway was, and there are only a few stores still open; the rest of the Market Place mall is empty. I expect they will be evicted soon when mall renovations start. So call ahead.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
