Twice, I have been eyeing this place within the past week. Finally, I gave in and ordered the butter chicken combo with an order of samosa. This place was yum. The butter chicken gravy was good but the chicken breast pieces were a bit dry. I counted my chicken pieces and I was blessed with 7 pieces. It was also nice they served some butter chicken gravy over the rice as well. I picked the channa masala as the side and dished that over my samosa and made it into a little samosa chaat. That was amazing! The combo also came with a full size naan, which was soft and yum. I think it would have been great if there was some butter or ghee brushed on top. My beau had the paneer butter masala with the vegetable korma/curry dish. The paneer dish was great, although it was not grilled like it was described on their menu. The downfall of this vegetarian combo was the vegetable side dish. It was too runny. It was obvious that they used frozen vegetables for that dish but a little bit of seasoning would have made that dish delicious. My only compliant would be the rice, it was so-so. Overall, I'm happy this Indian joint in the mall serves up good food for a reasonable price.

The service here was great! They were really nice and handled my indecisiveness very well. Lol I really appreciated the options they gave me. I got the veggie combo. It was VERY filling and nicely seasoned. If you are in the food court and you want to get some food that isn't highly processed and different than your other options I would suggest that you give this place a try.

This is a great place, hard to believe it's mall food. The butter chicken is so tender you can cut it with a plastic fork. LOVE!
(5)Amalika K.
The food is disgusting. We went there other day and the food just tasted like very old. It is nothing like an Indian food. My advice to the owner is to work on food quality. It lacks flavor and taste. Also, the price is high for the quality.
(1)Naveen S.
The food was Amazing when they opened in the mall and I had been there at least 4-5 times in a month but the quality is not as good as it used to be before. Good for Amercan taste buds but it's not as Authentic as it used to be before. Samosas taste great and Butter chicken is awesome. Staff is friendly too!
(3)Paul P.
I thought their most popular dish, which is chicken based and slightly sweet is restaurant quality and good restaurant quality, even late in the evening around 8 PM. The proprietress is very friendly. She and the young gentleman working with her offered me samples of the three main dishes. The cheapest which she said was the most popular and chicken based as mentioned, was the best. It's a shame they don't have more business.
(5)DJ L.
Little disappointed with their serving portions. The quality of their food wasn't terrible - butter chicken, goat, spinach - but wasn't amazing. Friendly staff and offer samples upon request so don't be afraid to try if you're hesitant. Not planning on coming back again.

One to no star for service. Despite the piece of plastic bag I found in my butter chicken last time, I went back today to get the large butter chicken meal. After paying, found a seat, and saw that I only had 5 measly pieces of chicken. I went back asking if this was the large meal. "Yes it is the large" "The large comes with only 5 pieces?" "I gave you two scoops, small only comes with one scoop" "So if the large meal comes with 5 pieces...small comes with...3?" "No. Small comes with 5 and large comes with 7-8" "....ok...? I have 5." "Next time you better tell us before you start eating." Is this lady serious? I just got my meal and it shouldn't be hard to remember because I was the only customer. I can't even tell if the food was good and now I have indigestion from this ordeal.

A nice little find among the fast food kiosks at the mall. I've probably tried everything, twice, but the best thing is the warm and friendly ever-present owner. In my opinion, the food is more fresh and more tasty (and healthy) than the other nearby choices.
(5)Satish J.
Best samosas, eaten hot n fresh, definitely not a heat n eat place like many other places , everything cooked from scratch, and the samosas tasted right from the late night treats from the streets of delhi we used to hav often.after finishing 2 samosas, we went back to get more. Here everything tasted fresh n nice, I would recommend this place to anyone who has wanted desi khana but fooled previously by other places. highly recommend mirch masala to one n all, go try it n u will know what u were missing so far.
(5)Harsh Deep Singh N.
I was in the Montgomery mall for a movie with a friend, and we decided to grab a bite to eat from Mirch Masala on a whim. The lady at the counter was nice and friendly, and accommodated our requests for customization. The samosa chaat was probably the one item that was well prepared and tasted pretty good. However, the chole bhature was not cooked properly and thoroughly failed to impress. Overall, had a "meh" experience so not sure if i want to go back.

Indian place in the infamous montgomery mall food court. Looks deceiving, but very yummy! Staff was nice and told me about different things they had on the menu. I ordered the butter chicken combo that came with a side of vegetables and a naan. I didn't like the vegetables but the butter chicken naan and rice were awesome! Staff was nice, I'll be back without a combo just the chicken and rice!
(4)Raj G.
Excellent samosas, as before. The trick for a good samosa is that it should not be big, the crust should be flaky, and the stuffing nicely spiced. Not hugh and soggy fried dough filled with almost plain mashed potatoes. The accompanying coriander mint chutney is also nicely seasoned.
(5)Ebie B.
Love the butter chicken and mixed veggies. However the prices are far too high (considering the portions especially). Otherwise, very delicious.
(4)Dyonna B.
I came here for lunch. I must say that Montgomery Mall is stepping up their game in terms of food choices. The guys who helped me were friendly and offered me samples since this was my first time there. I ended up getting the buttered chicken (yummy) and it came with rice, a veggie, and naan. It was worth the price. wasnt too expensive. I will def. go back.
(4)Michael C.
Delicious food and am extra friendly staff. Good chicken and excellent vegetarian options. Reasonable prices too.
(5)Clifford M.
I don't do malls, especially crowded ones like Montgomery Mall. I had this coupon in my wallet the past few weeks clipped from India Times. With insufficient time to cook dinner, I stopped by Mirch Masala for a take-out. The staff was cordial and seemed less rushed than the other food court vendors. I chose the chili chicken and ignored their warning that it was spicy. They made it into a combo plate and added generous portions of rice and vegetables. True to their word, the chicken was spicy but tasty all the same. The vegetables, rice and naan helped me cool down from the chili chicken. I will be back but will probably try one of the less spicy dishes next time. I am giving them 5 stars because I am not trying to compare them to a non-mall restaurant. I was more than satisfied with the authentic Indian culinary experience which surprisingly only cost $6 and change including tax.
(5)Sarah R.
Probably the worst Indian food I've ever had! Oily, greasy and no real taste or spice. Definitely worth going to Bethesda or Rockville instead for some decent Indian.
(1)S. O.
You get a good amount of food for the price. For $7, I get an order of butter chicken, spinach, rice and 2 pieces of naan. I don't recommend eating this for lunch unless you plan on passing out afterwards. They give you a lot of food!
(4)Rok L.
The choices were mall pizza, mall Subway, mall Panda, mall Japanese mystery food, Qdoba, mall Sushi, MCD's, Popeye's, and mall cupcakes. I chose Indian food. A very wise decision, and I had low expectations based on what I had to choose from. Very good food, and good quality. I went veggie and had the chick peas curry and the spinach and potato. You get 2 veggies, rice, and two pieces of bread. For $5.25 plus tax. Seriously? Subway and MCD's cost more! For the price and the location, the food was outstanding. I don't know how the meat entrees are, this review is for the vegetarian options. I will definitely go back.
(4)Gene Y.
Not recommended. First of all, for around $10 you'll be getting a meal with almost NO meat. They blatantly skimp on the meat, and give you just a few tiny chunks; essentially it's going to be a vegetarian meal. Secondly, it's very dry and tastes like microwaved Indian frozen dinners from Safeway.
(1)Robin B.
The food here is very nice. I had the chilli chicken, and while it's americanised, it's still damn good chilli chicken. My friends got the butter chicken and the lamb curry (basically lamb korma). Yes, it's true, as other reviewers say, that the sauce is rather thin. That aside, they make a good effort of making it taste great! I also heard from a regular that their samosa chaat is to die for. The staff are very friendly, and will let you try the dishes they have out that day if you want, before you buy anything. The portions are filling--and not too much like other food court places. Mirch Masala has some cool unexpected flairs--if you want to add a nice authentic touch, ask for a side of lime and chilli pickle. It's a tasty pickle that goes great with the chilli chicken; I wouldn't be surprised if, like the gulab jamun (a little pricey at $1.00 a piece) the pickle is made onsite.

(3)Bruce R.
of course I must start with the fact that you are never going to get excellent Indian food at a food court so my expectations and grading are always adjusted. that being said this was the most bland Indian food I have ever tasted. add to that the crazy pricing for watered down food and it makes it horrible.
(2)Jason W.
Visited 12/7, used a Living Social coupon, and had a great meal! We ordered butter chicken, chicken curry, and chicken tikka, and all were excellent and plentiful. The chicken in all of the food was moist, and the sauces were delicious. We have frequented this restaurant on several occasions, and our experience has been mixed. One thing, however, has generally remained constant -- the food we received tasted good. The restaurant is clearly trying to get things right, and hopefully our meal of yesterday will become the norm.
(5)Brett M.
I love Indian food, so when I found myself in the mall food court for lunch, I thought, great, a break from Panda Express! I knew it when I walked up. I was going to be disappointed. The chicken was dried out, the rice flavorless. The sauce watery. The portions very small. There are much better places within a few miles of the mall.
(2)Shiehan C.
It's decent Indian mall food. To be honest, I haven't seen anything else like this before, so I gave it a try. Some of the other reviewers have mentioned that the food is a bit watery, but you get what you pay for! It's not intense like the Indian food in Howard County, but that's expensive. Mirch Masala is mall food, so don't expect 5-star dining. Nicely filling and a pretty standard portion for me, they gave me more chicken and veggies and less rice than if I had gone to panda express or sarku.
(3)Bruce G.
I've been here several times since my first review. I have pretty much alternated between two combination plates, the butter chicken and the lamb curry. The butter chicken, of course, is not as spicy, but it's not supposed to be, and what it is is very nicely flavored. The lamb curry is spicier, which is fine by me, but for those who don't really want spice to such a high degree, you are hereby warned. For the combination plate you get a side dish (spinach, chickpeas, or some other veggie dish; they do change from time to time, but it's usually a choice from 3 options) and rice and bread. I'm not a gigantic bread eater, but their bread at least has some taste to it. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is, after all, just a booth in a food court, with limited variety on the menu and the atmosphere that you expect in a food court. You can get a more pleasant experience at a stand-alone restaurant, but if you get a hankering for Indian food and all you can afford is fast food as served in a food court, this place will do fine.
(4)Victoria S.
This place was actually really good! I had the channa masala (chickpeas) and the spinach. Both were really flavorful and pleasantly spicy. I had a sample of the chicken curry as well and that was also excellent. Portion size was quite large! I would eat here again for sure.
(4)Zuleikha S.
You can't expect much out of Mall food anyways. I realized that the chicken kabob they have...if its not eaten, it's used in the butter chicken. How'd I realize it? ...Well as I was eating the butter chicken, the chicken wasn't an orange color and usually if chicken is in a broth, it's soft and tender..and not hard and difficult to cut like grilled food. And I noticed the chicken was red with the Kabob spices I know it's a way to save the chicken.. But we can tell!! Plus her two scoops of the butter chicken consisted of 80% broth and not chicken.. Maybe 4 small pieces. So I asked for more. The bread..instead of handing over a whole round piece, they've cut it up in fourths and you only get 2 of the one-forths.. I didn't like that.
(3)Terinee B.
Well, first of all, this place is in a mall, so for me to come here outside of shoppin'... Their food would really have to be hittin! I think I had the chicken & lamb combo. It was pretty good, but definitely not anything to write home about. I've had much better Indian food, but I guess considering this is mall food, its not that bad.
(3)Kevin P.
i love curry, so when i saw this place at the food court i had to give it a try. Bleh. The curry is really watered down and the meat chunks were small. The only thing you'd feel is feeling of spiciness, no other flavor. The rice is also bland. Will not come again.
(1)John K.
Tried their Chicken Tikka and their Butter Chicken. Tikka was a little on the salty side and the butter chicken was about average, but not that fantastic. Price is pretty good for $6-$7 if you go to the mall for a quick lunch. They give you a ton of rice but not a lot of sauce. If they gave more sauce, maybe I would give it one more star. Just go to Sarku Japan of Chic-Fil-A instead.
(2)Robert P.
Ever have a craving for something? Popeyes? Ice cream? 2 girls at the same time? Well, I had a craving for some Indian food for lunch and decided to check out Mirch Masala. I went with the butter chicken combo and got a generous serving of chicken, rice, 1 side item(mixed veggies) and 2 pieces of Naan bread. After tearing this meal up, I think I may convert to Hindu and marry an Indian woman. The food was good and I will definitely come back again. Good stuff, 4 stars....now time to make some toilet water splash.
(4)Izzat A.
Went here for lunch today. I set my expectations low because, ya know, it's an indian place in a mall food court. For $6 you get a TON of food. I asked them to give me half chili chicken and half butter chicken, rice, chick peas and 2 slices of naan. You can't beat that price for all that. Food was pretty good, the butter chicken was better than the chili chicken imo. It's definitely not the best indian food you'll ever have, but for the price and for being in a mall food court, it definitely isn't bad at all. On the plus side, the guys working there were super nice. I'd come here again.
(4)K P K.
This is you typical sub-standard Indian food in fast food format. Curries are watered down, meat is sub standard cut and the sides are just plain bland. For $7 you can get a hefty portion of food, so I can see how that attracts people. I think that $7 is better spent at another location
(1)Tim R.
I don't eat Indian very often so when I find myself at the mall for lunch, I always seem to have that craving. Hopefully, by putting this into Yelp! I'll remember to stop doing this. I ordered the lamb curry (aka salt-lick-lamb). Hopefully my wife will stop me next time. On a positive note, the people working there seem really nice.
(1)Nick H.
By far the most quality and vegetarian friendly restaurant in Montgomery mall. And they were chopping veggies, good sign.
(5)D. K.
I used to like this place but they increased the prices and reduced the amount of food. More onions than meat and it was pretty dried out. For what I paid I could have gone to one of the "all you can eat" Indian buffet places on the Pike. I have to agree with other reviewers who call it "expensive mall food".
(2)Richard F.
Indian food from a mall, sounds kinda scary doesn't it ? Well no need to worry here. The food is awesome !! The tandoori chicken meal with chick peas, naan an basmati rice is my personal favorite. The butter chicken is perfection. The portions and price are spot on and it is so worth every penny. My wife and I have our Saturday nite date nights there at spend under $20 for the 2 of us. I have eaten there on at least 6 occasions and the food is always consistent. The only down side...The samosas. They are really hit or miss. They seem to keep them in a toaster oven type thing and it can really dry them out. When they are good they are very good, and when they are bad...well you know the rest. Normally this can be the kiss of death for me, when it comes to an Indian food joint, but the rest of the food is sooo good, that I can forgive this one sin. So give them a shot.
(4)Werson L.
I went to the mall to buy my brother-in-law's birthday gift, only to step into a pungent and heavy smell when i passed through the malls food court. What was this? Could it be? YES it was! Indian food in the freakin' mall. Naturally being the fat@ss that i am, i had to check it out. At a glance, prices were reasonable, a set meal (rice, 1 meat, 1 veggie, and naan) for prices $5-$6! I got the #3 which was the Butter Chicken meal and got the mixed veggie as the side. THey gave a crazy amount of food for the price. The food itself wasnt half bad, the only real complaint i really had about the meal was the chicken. They used chicken breast and it felt over cooked for me. It was cooked until it was kinda dry and stringy. I think it would have been a great meal if they used dark meat!
(3)Florencia F.
You definitely get your moneys worth here. I always have the Shahi Paneer combo which comes with Shahi Paneer on the side, and over the rice, and then one vegetarian side and a side of naan. I've had all 3 of the vegetarian sides they offer and have decided that the chickpeas (Chana Masala) is the best. They're spicy and flavorful. The paneer in the Shahi Paneer is actually one of the best I've ever eaten in my life, but sometimes the tomato-cream sauce can be a little weak in flavor, and a bit too runny. The naan is always warm and delicious, and the rice is also a bit of a hit or miss. Usually good, but I've gotten it a little crunchy for my taste once or twice. That's why I say you really get your moneys worth. You get all this for for 6-7$ which is actually one of the most fair prices when it comes to eating Indian. Usually it's expensive, the portions are small, and the idea of sides combos/naan/rice as an included amenity is unheard of. So, for quick drop in it's great. Don't forget that this is a fast food court at a mall. This is fast Indian food at it's finest though.

This place was actually really good! I had the channa masala (chickpeas) and the spinach. Both were really flavorful and pleasantly spicy. I had a sample of the chicken curry as well and that was also excellent. Portion size was quite large! I would eat here again for sure.

Well, first of all, this place is in a mall, so for me to come here outside of shoppin'... Their food would really have to be hittin! I think I had the chicken & lamb combo. It was pretty good, but definitely not anything to write home about. I've had much better Indian food, but I guess considering this is mall food, its not that bad.

i love curry, so when i saw this place at the food court i had to give it a try. Bleh. The curry is really watered down and the meat chunks were small. The only thing you'd feel is feeling of spiciness, no other flavor. The rice is also bland. Will not come again.

This is you typical sub-standard Indian food in fast food format. Curries are watered down, meat is sub standard cut and the sides are just plain bland. For $7 you can get a hefty portion of food, so I can see how that attracts people. I think that $7 is better spent at another location

I used to like this place but they increased the prices and reduced the amount of food. More onions than meat and it was pretty dried out. For what I paid I could have gone to one of the "all you can eat" Indian buffet places on the Pike. I have to agree with other reviewers who call it "expensive mall food".

By far the most quality and vegetarian friendly restaurant in Montgomery mall. And they were chopping veggies, good sign.

You get a good amount of food for the price. For $7, I get an order of butter chicken, spinach, rice and 2 pieces of naan. I don't recommend eating this for lunch unless you plan on passing out afterwards. They give you a lot of food!

Probably the worst Indian food I've ever had! Oily, greasy and no real taste or spice. Definitely worth going to Bethesda or Rockville instead for some decent Indian.
