This is not a place to go for a fancy meal, but the food is really good, the portions are large, they don't take forever to get it ready (or deliver it if you go that way), and it is not overly expensive. Usually spend about $15 on two meals and an order of crab rangoon (with lots of crab meat) and my wife and I can make two meals out of it easily. The only complaint I can come up with is that it is sometimes much better than others. At times it is incredible, and every once in awhile it will be just pretty good. Never bad though. would recommend for sure.

We order from them at least 2 times a month... while I will agree with some of the reviews below about consistency. the food is always pretty good but some nights its just out of this world amazing, other nights is just good. I think alot of that has to do with the cooks. everytime I have walked in to place an order on the way home, it always seems it's a different cook, I dont think I have ever seen the same cook twice. the staff is VERY friendly, we ordered from them saturday night and we got our food delivery within 15 mins. It's always the same guy that delivers our food, and he's always so nice and courteous. I would like to give it 5 stars just based on customer service and staff but the inconsistent food puts it at a 4 for me.

A typical hole-in-the-wall Chinese place, perfect for self-destructive whims. Complete with sun-faded pictures of their food in the windows and above the counter. This is a perfect junk food place, though. Every time I ate here for lunch, I would fall happily into a semi-conscious state for the rest of the afternoon. The interior is less than bare bones, but I still always chose to eat there, at one of their rickety plastic tables. Mmm. Everyone has probably eaten at a place like this before. Hunan Kitchen is a good Plan B for when Ledo's is overcrowded.

Although Alexis' review is mostly true, you have to know what to order from there. It's a great take-out restaurant. They are quick and some dishes are very good. I've tried most Chinese restaurants in Bethesda, and quite a few in Rockville. I used to get the pan fried noodle dish every Sunday night. I think it's one of their best dishes. 2nd fav is the Sesame chicken. They use bigger pieces of chicken than other most restaurants. Overall; consistently good Americanized Chinese cuisine.

This place used to be excellent -- about 10 years ago. Recently though, it's changed owners and has fallen to pieces. It used to be family owned, and you could taste the love in their food. Things were prepared fresh, to order, and were downright delicious. But the last few times I've eaten here, I've just been disappointed. The food has no flavor, the egg rolls are greasy, and the spicy level varies greatly, depending on what night you go. Sometimes you order a spicy dish and it's bland as can be, other times it's so spicy you can't even eat it. No consistency here. Sad to say, I will not be returning here again. It's expensive, and just not worth the money.

I like the food, and the people are friendly. I went to this Hunan Kitchen when I worked in Bethesda, because the food are refreshing--they are refreshing in term of its uniqueness. Although many Chinese restaurants carry the same menu, this restaurant's foods are way better than the other.

Fast delivery, crab rangoons FULL of crab. Online menu prices not accurate. Dinner General Tsao's listed as $8.95, but now closer to $10.95.

This is just your regular Chinese takeout place. We usually order the General Tso or Triple Delight which are always tastes the same, no disappointments. One day; however, my sister decided she really wanted duck and ordered the Crispy Duck. I'm sure she envisioned the authentic type you can pick up at Chinese supermarkets....end result: not so much. I'm not sure what even made it "crispy" since it was just dry duck meat. Also, I must note that parking in this shopping center is a real pain, especially on weekends. I'll usually drive and have my sister run out to pick up the order, while I search for a space or drive around the lot.

We just moved to Bethesda and have been trying every single place that delivers. We have tried Mayflower, City Lights, North china, and more. I was so happy to find Hunan Kitchen. They were not rude on the phone like others and they actually listened to what I wanted in my order - SPICE. I asked for extra spicy and I got it. Thank goodness for this restaurant and for their excellent service. Make sure you ask for extra black bean sauce if you ask for the Shrimp with Black Bean. Also, everything was extremely fresh.

Three things redeem this place: 1. it is a no frills Chinese restaurant, and if that is what you want, and you are here , then you should be happy. 2. It amuses me greatly when I am coming out of the Whole Foods next door to scream "Noooo - a Human Kitchen! these people are cooking humans - somebody call the cops" When my boys were 9 they loved it, now they are 11 it is just another example of embarrassing sad sack Dad-ness....which makes me do it all the more..... 3. cheap and cheerful Chinese - i have bumped it up an extra star......it is what it is....

Great Chinese food takeout spot. They have a TON of veggie options, including vegetarian general tso chicken, vegetarian sesame chicken, vegetarian orange chicken, along with many others. My boyfriend absolutely loves the hot and sour soup here. Also, they don't take forever to deliver your food - which is always nice.

If you want chinese that is tasteless, this is the place to go. I tried egg drop soup, hot and sour soup, fried chicken wings, crab rangoon, chicken lo mein, and hunan chicken. The hot and sour soup and the chicken wings were the only things that had good flavor. The fried wontons for the soups were stale. The hunan chicken was not spicy at all. The crab rangoon was greasy with a funky after taste. The chicken lo mein wasn't anything great either. Not impressed. I would rather order from Mayflower. Some good things: Very nice on the phone and good at the counter. Food was done very quick (10 min).

This is my very first review on Yelp and I have to say that it is well worth the time. For the past 6 months I struggled finding a decent takeout place in DC, never thinking of my own backyard. I ordered very basic food: the chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, and an egg roll - It was absolutely delicious!! Best takeout I've had in a while. The rice came packed with generous portions of vegetables and chicken, the breaded chicken was tasty, and the sweet and sour sauce was not watered-down but thick and sweet - perfection! Also, it is worth noting that the delivery and phone staff were extremely friendly and polite! I felt bad that I couldn't tip enough on this first order but I will certainly make up for it on my next call. I encourage you to try this place out. Hunan City will be my go-to takeout for the rest of the semester.

I've gotten take-out from Hunan Kitchen approximately 30,000 times over the years. It's one of the few phone numbers I actually have memorized. For me, it's all about the General Tso's chicken (pretty much goes for orange and sesame chicken as well). After trying the general's chicken all across this great land of ours, I consider myself a General Tso's connoisseur. Without a doubt, Hunan Kitchen does it best. The meat to breading ratio is perfect. It's not too crispy or too soft. The sauce is flavorful but not overly sweet. There are plenty of chilies if you want to spice it up, but the base is pretty mild. There are even chunks of green onion in there. The other items are fair to good, though, to be honest, I normally just have tastes when other people get them. I just can't not get the General Tso's.

Meh. So, relatively cheap, made to order. That's good, but a little more expensive for a fast food chinese joint. It didn't include a soup with the lunch special either, which made me pretty sad. The general's chicken was just OK...nothing special, nothing bad. I probably wouldn't go back.

First of all, there is no decent authentic Chinese food in dc metro area. Having said that I frequently get take out from this place that has decent americanized chinese take out food. Cheap, consistent, reliable, quick, edible. I frequently get kung bao chicken without celery and combination fried rice.

This is one of my most favorite places to get Chinese food. I love hole in the wall type of places because they are often better then big restaurants. While this is not a sit down place, it has food that is better then most fancy restaurants. Very friendly staff that remembers you on your return visit. Excellent foodie choices and my favorite is Singapore Style Noodles. I recommend this place when you simply want to grab some carry out and watch a movie at home. Single orders are so big that 2 to 3 people can share them and With every order you get box of white rice and fortune cookies. I'm yet to be disappointed by this place.

I order Chinese food a couple times a month from Golden house in Bethesda. Today I was passing by Hunan Kitchen (an old family favorite), and I thought "I have not had them in years, too bad they don't deliver"....then I see a sign that says "WE DELIVER"!! Awesome! I ordered this evening, and it was as good as I remembered. Don't get me wrong, it's still take out Chinese food, but it is now delivered to your doorstep. I am permanently back Hunan Kitchen, as long as you keep delivering! Sorry, Golden House.

On the never-ending search for good Americanized Chinese take-out, I tried this place tonight. Nope, another one off the list. I got what was theoretically kung pao chicken and fried rice. It was absolutely tasteless, no lie. I even put soy sauce on the rice just so there would be SOME flavor, and I almost never do that! The chicken, while extremely generous in portion size, was tasteless as well. There were some pepper pods in it, but they contributed nothing. No-thing. It was so tasteless that I threw away the leftovers, and I love me some leftovers (and hate wasting food). So I recommend skipping this place and trying somewhere else.

This place isn't as bad as some of the reviews are stating. I eat here almost every week because I work in the area. It is definitely NOT expensive and the portions are huge. For lunch anyway, the portions are probably too big as I usually want to take a nap after consuming more than I probably should. It's correct that there are different owners, but it seems to be still family run, they are friendly, and all of the main dishes are always made fresh to order. Only a person unfamiliar with Chinese food would make such an absurd statement that the food is not prepared fresh to order. Since the change in ownership, some dishes are better than before and there are a few that aren't quite as good. Consistency in Asian restaurants is always a challenge it seems, but I haven't had anything that has been terrible. All of the changes has not discouraged me from going there with my co-workers every week.

My 4 stars are for food quality alone. Do not plan on eating in the restaurant because the staff definitely doesn't. My family loves this place for take out. Great meals and less grease than most places in the area. Food takes 10 minutes on average.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
