It took about an hour to get our appetizer, which was just an order of samosas. We asked the waiter multiple times when our food was coming and he was completely evasive. After two and a half hours with no entrees, a table full of empty glasses (which no one even offered to refill), and all around horrible service, we just left. The waiter even had the audacity to argue with us on the way out.

Overall restaurant experience was good. It is a small cozy restaurant that is on the small side, but the decor and ambiance is nice. The customer service was great. They were very accommodating with us having our 1.5 year old son dining with us. For our appetizer we had the chicken chilli. It was mildly spicy, well seasoned and tasted good. For my entree I had the Lamb with spinach; which was good. My boyfriend had the duck steak and he said it was good. The only negative was that we waited a little while before our entree came out, but the waiter apologized and was pleasant about it. The prices were average...not too expensive. If we didn't have our LivingSocial deal, our total would have been about $52 for 1 appetizer and 2 entrees (no drinks...we just drank water). I would return if I had another coupon

I came here with a friend for lunch and was blown so far out of the water I was flying through the clouds. Beverages: I had masala tea, which is brewed with milk. My friend had black tea. There were other tea options as well, including a green. Child-friendliness: my friend had his baby with him, and the waiter brought a paper cup of water with a straw immediately and checked in with him about whether he wanted a high chair and other baby-accommodating types of things. I do not know if there are changing tables in the restrooms. Food: the pakora were lovely, made with a mix of vegetables and served with two chutneys and some raw veggies on the side. The pakora are gluten-free and the menu is marked for gluten, vegan, and nuts. I had saag paneer and my friend had vegetable biryani. The saag paneer was delicious and beautifully prepared and the only thing that kept me from eating it until I exploded was the biryani. This is when I was catapulted into the heavens: this place has the best biryani I have ever encountered. It is wonderfully floral, to the point where the sensory experience is not unlike drinking tea. It blended well with the saffron and other spices for an overall experience unlike any other meal I have ever had. Perfect. Allergy-friendliness: the menu marks for gluten, nuts, and vegan items. Add in a pleasant environment and comfortable chairs, and this was an optimal dining experience.

I love this place!! Everyone needs to get Buddha's delight. It's truly out of this world. I also love their samosas. They have a great happy hour deal on appetizers during the week. Service is good (I love how they bring out a little snack even before the appetizers) and ambience is nice. Will definitely be back!

Sometimes you wonder how places are allowed to exist. am never coming back here. Here's why- 1. My water tasted funky. My husband agreed as well. The waiter changed it and brought basically the same thing back. 2. Did not have draft beer as the gas ran out. What? Is that even a thing? 3. Thukpa soup that the husband had was average and had the supermarket mixed vegetables dumped into it. The broth was tasteless 4. The Nepali chicken curry was so average that I just couldn't handle it. The chicken was almost raw. Not coming back FYI- yelp has a 15% discount

The restaurant was empty. We did not have high hopes. We were in for a wonderful surprise. Our party of four shared an appetizer of marinated, grilled lamb chops which were delicious! Tender, moist, well spiced and grilled to perfection. We shared chicken dumplings , once again subtly spiced, and served with a mild but flavorful tomato-based sauce. We shared three entrees as well: the traditional, Indian-style creamy spinach with cubes of cheese that was the best I ever had; a "chef's recommended" dish of barbecued chicken and lamb in a spicy sauce with grilled vegetables; and a tandoor-style chicken. All were outstanding. For dessert, we shared a single order of rice pudding - just the right amount of cardamom-infused creamy sweet to cap a perfect meal. The wine we chose was not outstanding. I think next time, I'll have an Indian beer that would go perfectly with the delicious spicy food.

I tried this place out after buying a LivingSocial deal and was not disappointed. It's tucked away in the corner of bustling Bethesda, which is a plus because you can likely snag one of the few free parking spots out front. Two of us ordered pan-fried chicken dumplings, braised lamb shank with spinach, and a side of potato and cauliflower curry. Everything was delicious! The dumplings were crisp and had cilantro sprinkled all over, the lamb was incredibly tender and fell right off the bone, and the curry was amazing on top of the basmati rice. We had impeccable service, although we were also the only customers in the restaurant during most of our meal (on a Friday evening nonetheless). I was surprised at how expensive our bill was - we only ordered one entree and two sides between the two of us, but our bill would have been over $50 had we not had the LivingSocial deal. Bottom line: the food, service, and ambiance are all top notch, but I don't think I'd come here again without some coupon or deal as the prices are pretty high.
(4)David T.
Great, authentic food. I've tried almost all the dishes and everything but the Lamb is delicious. The lamb can be a bit dry and chewy. The staff is attentive and the prices are reasonable. On busy weekends, it may be difficult to find parking. The ambiance is lacking but the great flavors make up for that.
(4)Doug S.
We arrived early so the service was quite good, but the more the restaurant filled up, the longer everything took. The food was delicious and well prepared. We ordered a lamb dish, chicken tika and a soup. Also the spicy chocken mo-mos and of course the mango lassi which we split among the three of us, hence the champagne flutes. I live about 125 miles from this restaurant. Otherwise I might be here every week. You don't need to be adventurous to enjoy Nepalese foods. Price for three: $66 including tip. A little steep, but worth the outing with friends.

We've lived in Woodley Park for 3.5 years and somehow never stopped by before. Rather than give a play by play, let me just say: everything here is absolutely delicious. It seems that they get bad reviews for takeout, but great reviews for dine-in service. Highly recommended.
(5)Adam G.
Unimaginably horrible experience! We ordered deliver from this place at around 7:30 pm on a Sunday. We were told deliver would be between 45 and 60 minutes. At 9:15 we were told they were very busy and would get our order done when they could. Excuse me? An hour and half later and you haven't even started? By 10 pm they had stopped answering their phone, and we still had no food. Nearly 10:30, a person finally shows up. They apologised saying the restaurant was very busy and ... Yeah, I didn't care either. There is no excuse for making someone wait 3 hours. Opening the bags and containers, everything - and I mean EVERYTHING was ice cold. This stuff had been sitting around for hours, and now was all covered in congealed grease. It was a travesty. Caveat emptor.
(1)Kellyn M.
Delicious food with great service. Asked for recommendations and at dishes that were exactly what we were looking for and delicious. Definitely recommend it!
(5)Morris S.
My resident expert says d lish. Vegetables dishes were the specialty here. Really liked the cauliflower and eggplant main dishes.
(4)Chris G.
service was excellent as well as the food. I will definitely dine here again. I had the chicken Vindaloo dish along with garlic naan. Absolutely excellent spices in the food. atmosphere is cozy. Parking can be a challenge because of so many establishments close by. But, you will not be disappointed with taste. Again, we will definitely revisit this restaurant since we visit the area for recreation/night life.
(5)C B.
This review is for the LUNCH BUFFET which is AWESOME, a great deal and it's never crowded during lunch. I've been here several times for lunch and dinner and we've had it catered for work (but from the Adams Morgan location). Dinner is good too but a bit pricey to only get one entree and app (maybe). Service is slower because it's more crowded and they are not very quick. For the lunch buffet there's a ton of options and you just grab a plate and fill up.

Ummmmmm..... So this restaurant is okay for me because it didn't stand out from any other Indian restaurants that I have been. It claims to be a Himalayan restaurant, but I feel too many of their food are close to Indian food. I asked the server if they have any dishes that stands out away from Indian cuisine, and he said, "Not really." Therefore, I don't have much to say about this restaurant. I remembered I had some sort of sweet stuffed naan from them once which I never had in other places before, it was so good that it made me want to go there again, but after I visited there for the second time, they don't have that dish anymore. If I can give any suggestion to the owner, I will say to have more Himalayan dishes that will differentiate themselves out from other Indian restaurant. . Overall the food is not bad. However there is nothing on the menu that makes me want to take a 40 minutes metro ride to go there again.
(3)Bel B.
Very very expensive place,The food is poor quantity, managing the restaurant very very bad, I called to place order for delivery I spoke to the manager he told me we will call you back within five minutes to confirm you gonna have the delivery guy to deliver my foot to me, the manger never called me back to take my order, I called back 15 minutes later The manager told me, sorry we don't take delivery, then why you saying to me we call you back in five minutes to take your order, very disrespectful people and they don't have the common sense to treat the customers the right way, horrible experience I never recommend anyone for this place first for the servers it's very awful, second it's for the price it's very very pricey. Isn't crazy even on yelp says we deliver, the distance from the restaurant to my house 0.1 miles thats how close is the restaurant and still refuse to deliver to me horrible service!!!!! Do not go to this restaurant it's very bed. 0 stars no stars for this restaurant
(1)Marivic L.
I'm a fan of Himalayan Heritage for their momos alone. Definitely the best dumplings I've ever had - and the sauce is SO flavorful. I also tried my friend's lamb dish and it was just as tasty, Besides that, the staff here is extremely friendly and attentive. The space is definitely small, but nicely decorated and cozy. I'll be back because I can't resist a good momo.
(4)Rachel W.
Love the food, friendly service, and relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend the butter chicken and cilantro shrimp with lime.
(4)Raj G.
Bethesda, MD. Excellent food. Beautiful decor. Friendly service. Ordered Nepalese dumplings called Momos. Chicken Vindaloo and Nepalese shrimp curry. Lachchadar paratha was exceptinally good and crispy.
(5)Emily P.
Very tasty, tender lamb shank bone dish. Also really liked the butter chicken and cheese samosa (and dipping sauces!) Cozy atmosphere. The prices are reasonable, especially with the additional yelp discounts! My only feedback was that the server, although very attentive, seemed to rush our dining experience.
(4)Scott M.
Great selection of Napalese Cuisine. Something new to try. I'd say it is more or less a slight twist on Indian food, though with more reliance on the grill (which you will smell like when you leave). Parking is a little tough, though there are public garages a couple of blocks away. Definitely worth a trip.
(4)Ashley M.
I have been to the Bethesda location several times and it is hit or miss with both food and service. Last night the service erred on the horrible, awkward side. My friend and I hadn't seen each other for a while and had some catching up to do. We arrived about 7 on a Wednesday night and there were only 3 other tables in the restaurant. No reason to rush, right? Before we had decided what to order we were asked about 3 times. Worse, during the course of the meal we were repeatedly asked if we were done. When packing food for take out, the items were put in one box together. Good for saving on waste but we don't live in the same household. It was a total assumption. Also, I am a vegetarian and my friend had chicken vindaloo. By the time we got to my house to separate the two they had gotten mixed together. Just some basic service retraining would be really helpful.
(3)Mark H.
The Indian food here is good but it's very overpriced. The amount of money that you spend here is not worth the food honestly. The restaurant is clean and the service is not bad but it's just so overpriced. In an area with Indian food that is not very good -- this ranks way above average - but the price is so high that it is a major downgrade. For prices like this go to Rasika or go to Lasigars in Van Ness for cheaper and higher quality.
(3)Daniele M.
What a little gem tucked in the back of Bethesda. for those who like Indian food and Afghan food, there is something for everyone. Food was outstanding. Cucumber salad refreshing, corn soup, and amazing Naan breads. Don't forget the best mango lassi ever experienced! Main courses, you can't go wrong with all the lamb dishes, tikka, biryani and tandoori We had several dessert including a yogurt with pistachios that cleanse our palate and totally satisfied us. More importantly, the service was outstanding. Everyone couldn't have been more accommodating and flexible from the table we picked to the menu recommendations. It feels nice to go to an intimate, small restaurant where everyone cares.
(5)Arya S.
Very underrated place in my opinion. Always received great service. Favorite menu options include: Appetizer: Lime shrimp Chili paneer Fried spinach salad Entree: Chicken briyani They also usually have a pretty good groupon deal.
(4)Steve K.
We went on a Friday afternoon at about 11:45pm. We were the first table to arrive. At first glance, we were a little underwhelmed by the quantity of choices: about six entries if memory serves. Most places we go to have almost twice that. We shouldn't have worried. The quality of the dishes made up for it. Some of the best we've had. And at $9.95 it's a steal.
(5)Amdrea R.
This is the first time we came in to this restaurant. It had a good ambiance to it and the staff was very nice. We had the chicken vindaloo and chicken chili as an appetizer. They were both very very spicy but addictive. The only thing we can say that was not so good was that it was a bit cold inside because their heater was not working.
(4)M C.
Nice, little unassuming Indian restaurant on a little strip in Bethesda that hasn't been re-developed in the last decade. Sat down 25 mins before the kitchen closed, but the waiter/host didn't rush. The aloo gobi and yellow lentils were tasty, but the okra dish was a bit too spicy. But that was our fault... the menu described it as spicy, but usually, that doesn't mean too hot. Alas, it was the truth. A good neighborhood place.
(3)Ben S.
I came here for the first time with my parents tonight. They have a wide range of different options, from Nepali food to more traditional Indian food. We went with Nepali fare and were not disappointed. The waiter was Nepali and very willing to educate us about a cuisine that we really didn't know anything about. The food was fresh and delicious and it is definitely a nice change of pace.
(4)Che N.
Food was ok. Not bad not great. Portions were somewhat skimpy considering the prices they charge. Service was friendly but incredibly slow. Waited over an hour for the food after we ordered. Parking was difficult because of the location. I don't think i would go back.
(1)Melinda W.
My husband, who is Nepali, and I love this place! Every time we have had delicious food and attentive service. Today my husband had the Goat Curry and I had the mixed grill, both were delicious. It's an hour drive from our house but it's worth it!
(4)J S.
I had never tried Himalayan cousin before, and after having a dinner date with my wife at this place we were pleasantly satisfied with the unique flavors of their BBQ & lamb chops. Good food, relaxing atmosphere, and attentive service, just what we were looking for.
(4)Dana M.
We had the groupon, which made this an amazing deal. Two entrees and we ended up paying $2 (plus tip). It's a quaint, little place at the end of Bethesda ave, hidden from all the Georgetown Cupcakes/Sweetgreen tourists close to Bethesda Crab Shack. There are so many things I wanted to try, but finally settled on the Chicken Pumpkin dish (a mildly spicy curry with zucchini cooked in a coconut milk 'gravy'). Will definitely be back to try more. They also have coupons on the website and do delivery within 2 miles!
(4)Bob L.
I went back for another lunch and it was very good once again. It is too bad that not too many people seem to go here. The service is very good and the lunch special is a great deal.
(4)Karen D.
We loved it and will return soon. We especially liked the intimacy, small size and quiet.
(4)Chelsea H.
Extremely disappointed by the customer service. I have been coming regularly here for a year and saw a coupon on restaurant.com and purchased it very excited. I tried to use it on a carry out item, they told me 'no'. Saying that it is was only valid for dine in options. While I understood, that was not specified anywhere on the coupon neither before or after I purchased. When I mentioned this to the man on the phone he said, "well we told restaurant.com but I guess they didn't publish it." Listen, I understand but that's not my problem, my coupon then has false advertising and the man on the phone even said, "yes I guess we should change it". So he agreed with me but refused to honor what I paid for. Definitely won't be going back.
(1)Joe H.
We came here again for dinner; it was a little less busy so we didn't have to wait for a table this time. The food was super tasty, but I gotta say the portions are not very large. So if you're expecting to be full when you leave, make sure you order appetizers and maybe even dessert.
(4)Patricia J.
Oh, the food is so good and the wait staff is very friendly in such a cute and cozy ambiance. I especially like their spinach chaat salad, chicken shaslik, sizzling shrimp (think that was its name), and butter chicken. Very happy to have found this place!
(5)Heather J.
We ate dinner here tonight and really enjoyed it. The servers were friendly and helpful, but the food came out on the slow side. But I do think it's a little overpriced. The food was all hot and fresh when it arrived, though. The atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable. There are also a few free parking spots in front of the restaurant. I really wanted to try momos so we got that as an appetizer to share. I asked the waiter to recommend which ones to get and, without hesitation, he said the Himalayan Kothey was the one to order. They were delicious and the sauce they came with was great, as well. For our entrees we got the butter chicken and chicken biryani. I had never had a biryani dish before and was really pleasantly surprised. I thought it was going to be just a plain old rice dish, but it was very flavorful and had lots of good veggies and chicken in it. I would definitely order it again. Butter chicken is one of my staples at Indian restaurants, and this one was very good. The sauce was sweet and they were generous with the portion of chicken. We also got plain naan and a naan that was stuffed with raisins and nuts. Both were excellent. I will definitely go back to Himalayan Heritage.
(4)Rahul J.
Came here Fri night with a Groupon. Located on Bethesda Ave a block away from the main drag. We were offered a complementary small plate of spiced edamame and puffed rice which was a nice touch. Main course Palak paneer - Panner was soft and moist as it should be. The spinach was perfectly cooked and spiced. Black Daal - Also perfectly cooked and seasoned. Tandoori Rotis were spot on. One star off because off because our food was brought out 5 mins before the bread (but with the rice). As you always start with the bread, that was definitely a negative. We also requested some sliced onion to go along with the food but it was brought out after we were done with our meal - without an apology. We'd likely be back for the food especially some of the traditional Nepali dishes this time and hope for better service.
(4)Matt N.
Great little secret spot, service was excellent and the food was as authentic as it gets, I felt like I took a trip to the Himilayas, and only had to go down the street. Been there 3 times and every time I try something new a delicious from the menu.
(5)Bill B.
Himalayan Heritage is a great little neighborhood restaurant that has never failed to please in my four visits there. The Gobi Manchurian is probably the best appetizer I have had in recent memory - fried cauliflower in a sweet and very spicy sauce; sop it up with some delicious garlic naan and you're off to a great start. The curries, momos, and biryanis have all been between above-average and excellent, and the Nepalese spin on Indian classics are subtly different and delicious. Best of all, the chef is not afraid to hit you with legitimate fire in the spice department. The space itself is cozy and, in stark contrast to the noise fest that is much of dining in Bethesda or anywhere around here, for that matter, mercifully tranquil. The servers are friendly, know the food, and get the job done. Overall, it's a great break from the over-promising of so many restaurants around here - understated, good food, and an overall extremely chill and pleasant place to eat.
(5)Stephen R.
Had dinner there last night. Portions are huge. Not your usual Indian fare, as this was very fresh and different. The Salmon Tikka was perfect, and my Biryani was wonderfully flavored.
(5)Don L.
Food was good BUT the phone at the front of the restaurant rang many times throughout our meal. And it was LOUD and often wasn't answered immediately. It was probably turned up exactly because the staff weren't always around to answer it. That there is an unmanned phone in the dining area makes no sense. Move it to the back where the staff are. (Or permanently staff someone at the front so the ringer doesn't have to be so loud as to be heard by the staff at the back.) Let me know when this has been fixed and I'll come back (and change my 3 star review to 4).
(3)Elizabeth B.
The food is terrific at this Indian/Nepalese. We have never eaten there; have always ordered delivery. Love the steamed dumplings, the spinach appetizer, the Tikka Masala, and the Nepalese curry. Very interesting spices, everything very well prepared.
(5)Blake H.
Placed an order on Seamless at 8:21 PM. Called the restaurant five times at 9:40 after food had not arrived. Had to call Seamless customer service to reverse charge at 9:50. They also called the restaurant and the restaurant didn't answer. Driver finally showed up at 10:08 PM after I had canceled order and ordered food from another restaurant. Terrible experience.
(1)Jennifer B.
I've ordered delivery from here several times. Each time was pretty good. The butter chicken is wonderful as are the veggie samosas, which are huge. Today I ordered the Lamb Biryani which was ok. Big chunks of slightly overcooked/chewy lamb in a wonderfully spiced rice mixture with tons of different veggies & other things including peas, carrots, green beans, raisins, cashews, and almonds. There was some other kind of seed in there and when you bite into it, it is the most horrific thing ever. I quickly removed those! They always have deals all over the web, so be sure to check them out!
(3)John D.
So we ordered delivery and what we got was lack luster to say the least. We ordered papdams and they didn't include the chutney or any other dipping sauces, but the real disappointment was a 2/3rds filled container of chicken tika. I asked for medium and it was as mild as can be. There was only a few cubes of chicken in the dish. I was disappointed to say the least. We will not be ordering from there again.
(2)Nicole L.
Nice addition to the area we went to an early dinner right after work it was empty of course but the restaurant was serene and dark great for the hot day. The server was very friendly he explained the Nepalese dishes and other Indian dishes we really wanted to try the Nepalese dishes but were so hungry for a chicken curry. The appetizer dish was some popped rice and edamame it was really good! My butter chicken was sliced chicken it was very good and in a generous portion. I would definitely like to go back to try the Nepalese dishes.
(3)Janet S.
Excellent as always
(5)K T.
Since I live the food, I've now returned about 4 times. Unfortunately, even with a reservation, you usually have to wait another 20 minutes. It seems like they overbook thinking people won't show. When you call for a reservation, they always say they have a room but they overbook to bring in more business. The food is outstanding but waiting gets old.
(3)Joseph Y.
I don't knonw if I have anything to say that is differentiating from other reviews. The space is cozy and inviting. The food is tasty and as mentioned by others, well spiced. Also as mentioned by ohters, service was a bit sluggish. We were a four-top and were one of 6ish tables and things just ran slow. Thankfully we were not in a rush. I can't say that I'm itching to go back, but if I were in Bethesda and looking for something less hectic and commercial I would be happy to go back.
(3)N P.
We had a groupon here. The food was DELICIOUS which was great because we actually broke out of our normal comfort zone and tried 3 dishes that we had never gotten at any Indian restaurant before. All was really really delicious and the servers were very kind and attentive. Definitely will be coming back!
(5)Marc L.
Outstanding food and service, downscale atmosphere Having been to the Adams-Morgan location of Himalayan Heritage, I was glad to see this location in Bethesda, our new home. The Bethesda branch is pretty small, but decorated in the same dark-ish wood and carpet. We immediately received a friendly greeting; the host seemed genuinely happy to see us. It was early on a weeknight so there was plenty of seating. Our waiter took our drink order and made sure we were familiar with the menu. The beer and wine list is somewhat limited but we managed to find something to suit the food. The food quality is even better at the Bethesda branch than the one in A-M. The ingredients were fresh (no frozen veggies here) and the preparation well-seasoned and not your run-of-the-mill Indian fare. I've been to Nepal and the "Himalayan" dishes matched what I found there. There are also plenty of Indian dishes, including our own favorite palaak paneer. The naan bread was fresh and the rice cooked just right. The atmosphere of the restaurant is somewhat downscale. There are two big-screen TVs above the bar that made me wonder if we had wandered into a Nepalese sports bar. The furnishings are somewhat institutional, and the silverware stamped steel like in your college dorm. I think Himalayan Heritage will become one of our go-to restaurants for an after-work meal, but not for a fancy date night or a place to show off to out-of-town visitors.
(4)Hossein N.
Service - Excellent. We sat outside and even though we were the only ones out there, we were not forgotten. Appetizers - Samosas and vegetable pekoras. Both were freshly made and hot. The samosas were super sized which is normally a good thing except when you make Samosa's that big they become a little doughy in my opinion. That said the stuffing was flavorful and well cooked. As for our main courses: the general consensus was everything was a little too salty. Chicken Tikka - As good as anywhere in the DC area. And I have tried them all. To reiterate it was oddly salty but perfectly cooked otherwise Bread - Wow! Wow! Wow!. Hot, fresh, not doughy. I would almost go back just for the Naan and Onion Kulcha. DO NOT MISS! Stay away from the biriani. You will be disappointed. The rice isn't fluffy, the ingredients aren't fresh and oddly there was too much in it. And the youghurt sauce (sorry forgot the proper name) was sweet. We ordered two traditional Napalese dishes: Eggpant - well made but a little too much garlic for my liking. Chicken/Lamb curry - A bit disappointing. The ingredients were well cooked but the overall flavor didn't work well together. Just like the appetizers, the serving size is Amercanized!
(3)Bonnie A.
Excellent food in an intimate setting. I have been here a few times and enjoy the food immensely. It's a little pricey and spicy but it's been good and very inviting. They have interesting mixed drinks as well as unique beers. Food is served promptly and the dishes appear small but are very filling.
(4)Cecily G.
While the food and drinks are solid, the service was very lackluster. The menu offers a wide variety of food options from lamb, chicken, vegetarian, etc. The drinks are very tasty, especially the Himalayan inspired line. The only down side was the service. It took forever to get our drinks, food, and bill. Not the place to go if you are on a time table. All in all, I might return for happy hour and appetizers.
(3)Alexandra B.
I went to dinner on a Saturday evening with my boyfriend and my mother, and we honestly had a really nice time. Almost all of the food was really delicious and the atmosphere was calm and inviting. While there were a few things here and there that could have used some improvement, overall this was a really nice restaurant. This location is pretty small, but that does also seem to make it quieter and more intimate. The decor is simple and attractive, and the atmosphere is cozy. The service, as many have mentioned before, is fairly leisurely, so be prepared for a long evening when you do come. Most of the wait staff was very friendly, but our server seemed to be very much lacking in experience. Every time he came over to the table, he practically shouted at us, and overall he was a little jarring. We had a good chuckle about it, though, and he was still nice and had good intentions. For food, overall we were very impressed. They started us off with puffed rice and edamame on the table, which was unusual and fun. We each ordered a different one of their signature cocktails and enjoyed each of them. I had the Mai Tai, which was small but had good flavor. For appetizers, we ordered the Vegetable Pakora and the Vegetable Samosas. It was nice to see that both appetizers were actually really sizable so that we could truly share them and all enjoy them, and both were very tasty. For our entrees, two out of three were excellent and one was pretty good. The only one that could have been better was my boyfriend's meat entree, which he said was not the best he's had but was still enjoyable. My mom had the Paneer Masala and I had the the Achari Began. The sauce on my mother's paneer dish was absolutely delicious and my dish overall had a fantastic balance of flavor. We also shared two kinds of bread: the Garlic Naan and the Aloo Paratha. Both were absolutely great and paired perfectly with the food. They also gave us plenty of rice to pair with our meals. In sum, the food was super enjoyable, and at the end of the day, that's the most important element of a restaurant. The vibe is nice and it is certainly worth a visit when you want a place to go to just enjoy the evening and have a mellow dinner with friends and family. I would definitely go back again.

The restaurant's time management was awful the night we went. To make a long story short, we had made a reservation, but we waited over an hour to be seated. However, the meal was TOTALLY worth it. Although our deep-fried paneer appetizer badly needed a dipping sauce, the main dishes were AMAZING. We had 'Aloo Tama Bod' (black-eyed peas, bamboo, and potato) and 'Achari Began' (eggplant in spicy, thick awesomeness), which were both flavorful and addictive. The dishes were impressive not just because they tasted good, but also because they were vegetarian (some chefs are lost without a meat stock), including one made of eggplant -- by nature a petulant and unyielding vegetable. Definitely going back!

Neomi, Roy and I shared samosa and Gobi Manchurian (cauliflower), which were both tasty. Roy then had butter chicken, which he likes, and Neomi and I shared a by byrani. We also had mango lassi (good) and a bred basket, which was very good. The ambiance is fantastic.

We went on a whim when we couldn't get into an early movie. We used a Yelp promotion which made it a great deal. The place is very nice, totally redone from the dumps that previously occupied the same space. The food was spiced differently than Indian, it was far more interesting and complicated. We had the Veg Pakora for a starer. I loved it very spicy and full flavored. For a main course I ordered the Himalayan Karhi, a spice lamb and chicken dish in a rich sauce. Phyllis ordered the Buttered Chicken and was not crazy about it. The portions are large and the service is attentive. I loved it Phyllis didn't. My only complaint was the lack of choice on the beer menu. I will encourage going back. (and encourage you to try it)

My wife and I went to eat last night and enjoyed the food and service. Save room for dessert I had the carrot/cheese treat which was strangely delicious

I went all the way out to Bethesda in drizzly rain to use the google offer I bought for this place. I heard this place had Indian Chinese food so I really wanted to try it. We got... Momos - minced chicken dumplings with curry flavor and a reddish/orangeish sauce Chicken chow mein - My favorite thing we got! This was packed with flavor and spiceys with a decent amount of vegetables. It also had strips of scrambled egg on top. Bean dish - This was in the chef's recommendations and it had beans and bamboo shoots and some other stuff...not sure what it was called. We got it with naan. Overall: everything was great and I would recommend all! I was afraid Indian Chinese food would be weird but this was absolutely delicious. Portions were decent. I think the total price was $45 for the two of us but with the google offer we got a huge discount. I'm glad there's an adam's morgan location so I won't have to go all the way back to Bethesda next time!

I ate here with a friend last night. Bottom line: Good atmosphere, excellent food, fair service, a bit pricey for what you get. Entered restaurant 6:30 PM, not too busy. Ordered Aloo Tama Bodi (black eyed peas with potato and bamboo shoots), Okra Masala (okra in onion-tomato), and Achari Began (eggplant in onion-tomato). All were excellent, although the taste of the okra and eggplant were very similar. Also ate fabulous naan and complimentary papadams (which were fun and good with tamarind and spicy condiments). Drank Stella Artois beer which was delicious. I gave this 3 rather than 4 stars because of cost and service. We ate using a Groupon, and it was still expensive even with the coupon. I don't know if I would ever return without a discount. The service was amateurish and slow. Long waits between serving, if you needed something from the waiter it wasn't happening. Ordered, waiter didn't write anything down, then he returned because he couldn't remember what we ordered. Had to shout down another waiter in order to get another beer. Etc. Servers were sweet and friendly. Portions were ok, a bit on the small side.

A little on the pricey side for takeout, but I thought the veggie momos were divine. My husband liked the chicken chili appetizer, but neither of us was that impressed with the chicken pumpkin entree. Still, overall it was good, it was different, and it's close to home and just off the beaten path enough. I would totally consider coming for a sitdown meal, since- although empty- it was absolutely adorable inside and the server who brought me my food was awesome.

I came here on a Sunday afternoon with a groupon and the place was almost empty. The server was friendly, I ordered the onion kulcha, masala tea, and sunkoshi steamed momo (Chicken dumplings with Nepali spices). All were very adequate but not great. The masala tea was watery and the portions could've been bigger for the price. The meal wasn't bad in itself, but I am most annoyed at the clientele of the place- a snooty older couple came in (customers) and had the nerve to shush my friend and I, even though we were just having polite conversation. Major eyeroll...anyways, I would probably come back if I had another groupon but not for any other reason. Maybe I'll stick to visiting the other location instead.

We arrived on a Saturday evening at 6:30. The restaurant was half full, comfortable and the Nats game as on the bar TV. All the food was excellent, and service fine. They gave us a free spicy appetizer, dried puffy rice and beans. Quite interesting. Then we had chilli chicken, lamb vindaloo and Nepal dumplings. Dessert was the yummy yogurt pistachio dish. Sauces were thick and full of flavor. We even had enough of each dish to take some food home. Waiters were pleasant and helpful. As good as most Indian restaurants in the dc area with some Nepalese dishes.

I am really excited that this place cropped up! I love Indian food and the only one I really cared for in Bethesda was Passage to India, but they don't deliver to us. I came here with a friend on Tuesday night and was very pleased with the service, ambiance, and food. We ordered some paneer, onion kulcha, and chicken tikka masala. Everything was delicious. The staff was very courteous and obviously trying to attract business. They gave us a take-out menu and coupons on our way out. They're not going to get much foot traffic where they are on Bethesda Ave, but hopefully the word will get out and they'll stay in business. I'm so excited that we can add this to our delivery options (free delivery in a 2-mile radius)! I have one minor complaint, which will not affect my going back, and it was that the chicken was on the tough side. They were also a tad pricey, but that's just a heads-up more than a complaint. It's kind of what you'd expect from that side of Bethesda.
(4)Sati V.
Simple small restaurant with yummy, flavourful food. Liked it very much
(5)Brett M.
This is a nice addition to Bethesda. It's not often we get a sister restaurant from downtown, and this one is quite welcome. The space is small and warm. The smell of incense wafts through the air. The staff is young and attentive. My inexpensive lunch special of Chicken Tikka Masala was fresh and filling. The chicken was moist and flavorful. I encourage folks to try Himalayan Heritage.
(4)Eric B.
Oh my, the stars keep getting knocked off... Ordered Butter Chicken to play it safe. We've had it here, it was very good. This batch was so salty we almost took it back to the restaurant. We ate it because we paid for it, and weren't sure if we'd be giving Himalayan another try, but it was barely palatable. Like someone accidentally spilled A LOT of salt in the masala. Anyway, maybe another try eventually, but final verdict: Overall menu hit and miss, and even the highlights inconsistent. So the prize goes to Shangri, which we will also unfortunately not be ordering frequently at $45 for two entrees and a naan.

Indian/Nepalese food over here is really good. The restaurant is small but comfortable. The service over here was excellent. The restaurant could be a little hard to find. It is across the Benz dealership. The atmosphere is nice and comfortable. It is a small place more for a quiet crowd. Probably a good place to take a girl on date. I got the goat meat and spinach and my friend got the goat curry. We both liked our dishes. Both dishes were available in chicken too. We also got some Naan which was hot and nice.
(4)Jaime C.
My Husband and I had a very nice dinner at Himalayan Heritage last night. The ambiance is great. The service was very attentive. When we first sat down they brought out this puffed rice with spiced pea dish for the table. We really liked it. We ordered the veggie samosas as an appetizer. The shell was a little salty but the center filling was well seasoned and tasty. For our entree I ordered Chicken Vindaloo and my husband got the goat curry stew with Garlic Naan. I loved my entree, it was spicy and saucy just how I like it. My husband's goat was had good flavor, however he found there were a lot of bones that were a bit difficult to work around. The Naan was well made, lots of garlic. We found the prices to be very reasonable. I was happy to see that they deliver. We will definitely be back. That section of Bethesda Ave has really become a great grouping of restaurants.

I love this place. I live in the area and frequently go here for their amazing lunch specials. The people are so sweet, the atmosphere is inviting, and the food has been fabulous every time. I strongly recommend this restaurant.
(5)Fraser B.
Wonderful, interesting, and flavorful food. Everything our table of 5 tried was excellent! We had a great Nepalese server who made excellent recommendations as well. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the restaurant was very cold. Most of had our jackets on for the majority of the meal (although it was a freezing cold night!) We can't wait to go back!
(4)Quang B.
Amazing amount of attention from the staff, beautiful interior and very good food. Expect a lot from this relatively new restaurant/expansion. The location is easy to miss as google maps hasn't removed the previous restaurant and added the current one. The sign also doesn't stand out enough compared to everything else nearby. Service was amazing. The waiter served quietly prepared glasses of water to my date since she requested it warm with no ice. Staff and owner were friendly and sharing jokes with us. Food came out very quickly. Menu selection was gigantic. Instead of rice you can request naan which was a very large portion. The dishes the food were served in were pretty. Everything we ordered from their recommendation list and was very delicious. They gave a complimentary appetizer to start too. It was a very nice experience and I will definitely return.

Absolutely insanely incredible! I live in New York City but come down to DC often to visit my parents. My parents' favorite Indian restaurant in Rockville was closed, so I looked on Yelp for an Indian restaurant and chose this place because of what I read (and because of the Groupon discount). I am not exaggerating when I say that this was truly one of the best meals I've ever tasted. We got the lamb masala, chicken tikka and salmon tikka. The salmon especially was absolutely incredible! My mom and dad were also raving as well. We'll definitely be coming here many times in the future. I'm no design expert or anything but the restaurant had a very nice cozy, warm and inviting feel to it as well. My only slight constraint was that it took a bit of a while to get the food, but it was New Year's Day so hopefully it's not quite so slow on a normal day.
(5)Dee F.
Intimate and quiet, with a kind of understated elegance that I appreciate. (I like this kind of atmosphere a lot better than some other Bethesda restaurants..) But ambiance aside, definitely the best momos I've had around the area. They definitely don't skimp on the filling, and the spicy chutney was so satisfyingly spicy and SO GOOD.
(5)Tami B.
This is a charming place with Nepalese decor (check out the little pendant lights above each table), The greeter and the waiter were both attentive. I had never been here before and I just stopped in for a solo lunch. I chose Chicken Korma served with rice. It was very tasty and there was more than enough for just me. It's too bad they don't have some sort of combo because it's a bit expensive. Just the Korma, no drinks, plus tax and 20% tip was 18.90. I'll come back with friends so we can share.
(4)Sanjiv S.
Great momos, excellent sauce. I'll be coming back.
(4)Arun R.
Absolutely worst in terms of customer service.Lied to about wait list and made us wait for over 30 mins. They seated several people after with no reservations who came well after we arrived. We left after being disappointed with the way they treated us
(1)Izzat A.
Ugh, where should I start? I guess I'll start at 8:20pm, when we showed up for our 8:30 reservation. I'll skip the 50 minute wait that we had to endure because they couldn't get us seated after we were reassured it would only be a little while longer. We ordered palak paneer and butter chicken. Waited about 20 minutes more, then finally got our food.Service was nonexistent besides that. I was hoping for some butter chicken revelation but alas, it was mediocre. Wife liked her palak paneer, but then again she isn't hard to please. Right when we had been seated we asked for the manager but of course he didn't show up and when we were leaving we had to hunt him down. Manager's excuse was that the dishwasher was broken. Even if that was the case, a little customer service goes a long way. Luckily we had a Groupon, so we didn't have to pay full price for this meal. The Groupon was expiring so that is the only reason we stayed for so long. I've never experienced a restaurant that was so incompetent. I've Yelped almost 450 places and this is only my third 1* review. Looks like some other people had the same problem.
(1)Bart S.
My wife and I went there this evening using a Groupon, and truly enjoyed the food. We had the chicken curry and the mango chicken. Generous proportions, and the naan bread that came with the meal was excellent. This is a new place and I hope it succeeds. It is a welcome addition to Bethesda, and we will be back!
(4)Kumar M.
Great place! Little on the noisy side and slightly crowded. Even though we went during a Saturday when the Yelp deal wasn't valid (we didn't realize before), he still accepted it! Very friendly and great service.
(4)T R.
Nice little spot. Good date night ambiance. Got there at about 7. We were seated no problem. Not a giant dining room so I guess I can see why some of the folks on this page may get impatient if they were waiting. The bar looked empty though. Maybe take the edge off with a pre-meal glass of something. Service was very good. I like it when a place that serves food that is spicy serves it spicy. I felt that they fit the bill pretty well. The little puff rice appetizer was a bit hard to eat... but it was "free." There are some dishes you won't see everywhere here. I recommend the place for the food for sure.
(4)Lynn U.
We enjoyed a very tasty meal and great service. Loved the spinach chaat and cauliflower appetizers. Tandoori mixed grill is a great choice for meat eaters. Plenty of food to share. The eggplant, achari beghan, was excellent as well. We also ordered the mo mo dumplings that were ok. Probably wouldn't order it again as there are so many other good dishes to try.
(4)Dan S.
We've been going here for the last 6 months regularly and there is no better Tandoori chicken anywhere and I should know because I've tried over 25 Indian restaurants in the last 10 years and Himalayan has beaten them all by far! It is always very tasty, never overdone or dry but juicy and tender. They bring it out to you and the flames are still roaring when it arrives at your table. I never get tired of this dish and we go there about every two weeks. My wife likes to try new things but always says the Tandoori is the best. Their naan is the very best as well and is so fresh and hot when it comes out...Very casual atmosphere and moderate but fair pricing. If you live in or near Bethesda you must try it. It's a winner every time!

came here to try to some nepalese food the food: was not very good the appetizers were chira which was terrible. the chira , which is pressed rice, was not roasted and tasted god awful, i couldnt even eat more than one bite. it came with edamame, the himalayan chicken appetizer was alright, nothing amazing we had chicken momo which was drowning in srirachi. and not they way ive had momo in darjeeling. these were just hot but not flavorful the goat curry was also prepared badly, the meat was tough and not plentiful the garlin naan was good parking: is street , or the giant lot , or a paid lot a block a way ambience: was ok, amazingly the place was not desolate. considering the food is so bad , i think it had to do with the location price: we had a groupon so that was ok, but otherwise it mightve been quite costly bottom line: i would pass
(2)Frank J.
Food good; service attentive (though not super-fast); decor dark, comfortable and slightly exotic, menu mostly Indo-Pak with a few Nepalese specialties. We tried as many of those as we could. They resemble northern Indian cuisine, not a criticism. The most unusual, and perhaps most delicious, thing we tried was the Nepalese dessert (can't remember its name), a sweetened yogurt pudding-like dish dotted with cardamom seeds for an unexpected spicy kick. We will visit this restaurant again.
(3)Russell Y.
I came here with a Restaurant.com certificate. Food was really excellent and I think it may have been the owner who served me at the bar. Had the set dinner #2, non veg. He described the dishes beautifully and made it a great dining experience! I wish I had a camera for the first appetizer which had some type of curry chicken, edamame, and beaten rice. The beaten rice was interesting... it's dry and kind of hard but goes well with the spicy chicken. The food that came out afterwards was served in these little bronzelike goblets. Saag paneer was excellent.. naan was warm and moist. Curry chicken was a little dried out. Would go again!
(5)X M.
Don't get the chicken biryani. The chicken is dried out and the dish has no flavor. Worst biryani I've ever had and I've had a lot of biryani. Only reason I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1 is for the excellent customer service. Still, I won't be back.
(2)D Y.
Pretty good. Got the lamb tikka. The meat was little overcooked but the sauce was amazing. I'd definitely go back.
(4)Mark J.
We love the OTHER Himalayan / Nepalese restaurant in Bethesda and gave this place a try for variety. The beer menu listed a HefeWeizen with no brand listed. The waiter said he didn't know the brand, but knew it was 'Belgian". That's a bad sign already! The Gobi Manchurian only had a few pieces of soggy fried cauliflower; it was 85% onion chunks in red/pink chinese-like goo. The Paneer Pakoda was just a thin breading/batter on the paneer strips; a fried cheese stick! Not a pakoda at all! All 3 appetizers were frankly UNappetizing. The waiter forgot to put one of our entree orders in, this was good because the portions are really sized for 2 people. Think quantity, not quality here. Lots of rice and inexpensive onions and green pepper to make the dish look plentiful. Even the Garden Salad had way too much dressing and just got translucent & limp quickly. How do you mess up a salad? The Vegetable Biryani was just a huge plate of greasy fried rice with maybe 10% vegetables. We did not eat the Biryani; just awful. The Garlic Naan and Onion Kulcha were very good, so it was not a complete failure in the kitchen. On the way out I looked at the beer tap handle at the bar; the HefeWeizen was Widmer from NY state. We'll never set foot in Himalayan Heritage again. We consider Shangi-La as the only Himalayan / Nepalese place to go to in Bethesda.
(1)David S.
Not bad, but nothing special either. I had a Groupon that was just days from expiring, so I came here for lunch with my dad. We shared the goat curry and the chicken korma. The curry was very spicy and had bones in it. The korma, on the other hand, was sweet, and not like kormas we've had in the past. It was worth a try, but I don't think I'll be returning to Himalayan Heritage.
(3)Aloka C.
We had Sankoshi momo and Fewa noodles, two dishes listed under Nepali. We liked them both. The ambiance was quiet, so conversation was easy. Wait staff were friendly and efficient. Will definitely visit again!
(4)Stacey M.
As a huge curry fan who's tried it on 3 continents - I must say the curry at Himalayan Heritage is by far the best I've had in the DC area. I had the lamb vindaloo... which has a perfect spice palette with a bite! My husband had the butter chicken which was sublime! Garlic naan was so soft and fresh, it almost melts in your mouth. The table of Brits behind us concurred, best Indian food in DC!
(5)Bob Y.
Went on a Thursday eve with 2 other people, having fond members of the Khyber Pass restaurant that used to be near DuPont Circle -- we had intended to go to Raku but didn't feel the 35 minute wait (!) was worth it. We were able to get a seat immediately in Himalayan Heritage - the decor was very tasteful and it was quiet enough to talk. I had the Himalayan Thali vegetarian special, which I thought was quite good and more than enough for one person. The waitress was attentive and very pleasant. I'm not sure Nepalese food is my favorite, but it was a good change from the more usual Thai, Vietnamese, or Indian food in the area. Only recommendation I'd have for them would be to make it clearer which dishes are Nepalese, which are Indian, and which are Tibetan. But this is a minor quibble.
(4)E U.
Our family including our 15 year old son showed up for dinner tonight. They had four open tables and made us wait over 10 minutes only to tell us they could not serve us since they had reservations for folks who were supposed to be arriving. We ended up eating at a neighboring restaurant (Taipe Tokyo) and had an amazing meal. On our walk back to our car, we peeked our head into Himalayan Heritage and there were six open tables - it was only an hour later. Clearly this place is not kid friendly. Wish they would have been upfront rather than feeding us a line of BS.
