Appetizer -- Hunan dumplings (wontons) in a garlic sauce - excellent and addicting!! Very friendly lady -- always cheerful customer service.

Just got to show these guys a little love. I have eaten at many Chinese joints throughout my lifetime in many different states and I must say that that China Cafe is still at the top of my list. Their Shrimp with black bean sauce is excellent, Orange Chicken is super tasty, Ingredients are fresh, all the soups are delicious and the service ( I only get takeout) is always on point. I live in rockville now and whenever its "chinese night" I will drive the extra 20mins to this place. It is a little hole in the wall joint and not very pretty, but you can't judge a book by its cover and the folks at China Cafe have mastered excellent Chinese Cuisine!!

First time getting take out here (beacuse they do not deliver). Had a craving for general tso chicken and crabrangoon so decided to give it a try since it was very close. They did not have the typical chinese appetizer crabrangoon which was a bummer so I just got the gerlneral tso chicken. The general tso chicken was SUPER salty! I ate more rice than chicken which is very unlikely of me. Very dissapointed. I will give it 3 stars for now since its close by, ready when I got there and very hot when I got back home. Oh and also the old lady at the register was oh so nice! I will give it another try one of these days but will not get the general tso chicken. I will have to try the orange chicken, if that disappoints me, I will have to pass on this place even though its walking distance to my house.

Best Chinese food place I've ever been to. Honestly. Great family run small place. Great service. Food is always really fresh and delicious. Been there tons of times. Dining room is set up more as lunch place but we always get it as take out.

My 12 yo loves the pan fried dumplings from this place. Good prices for fairly standard Chinese food for takeout. Woman who runs front-end is super sweet. She will cheerfully make substitutions at no extra charge, which is not the norm around here. Has zero ambience so advise carry-out.

Honestly, I've lived down the street from this place my entire life and didn't even know it was called China Cafe until I looked it up... it's pretty forgetable when you pass by. BUT-- hands down THE BEST Hot and Sour soup I've ever had in my life. I've got a favorite Chinese food place elsewhere, but I will legitimately drive out of my way to get theirs. It's cray.

Finally, vindication! Two more five star reviews. I was right! This is one of the best little chinese take out restaurants in the area. Bar none. Nuf said.

I decided to give China Cafe a chance at fulfilling my Chinese food craving. Bad idea. This review kind of hurts to write because the staff was so super friendly and nice. I kind of want to be bffs with them. But unfortunately I wouldn't go back. The house soup was simply pieces of meat floating around in a bland broth. It reminded me of a spin on clear soup.. not a good one. I also ordered spicy fried tofu with mixed veggies. The veggies were lettuce leaves, jalapenos, bamboo, and green onion (scallions but longer)... huh? The tofu and veggies were swimming in a thick brown sauce. I ate with caution. Just not good. Such potential. I wish their awesome customer service existed at the good Chinese places. That is why I am giving China Cafe 2 stars.

Arguably the best Szechuan Beef I've ever had. However, it's the only thing I've ever eaten there.

As Pedro points out, it's totally run of the mill...but what's wrong with that? For the westbard district it's pretty convenient and you know you'll always get solid chinese. I'm a fan of poking in here to order shrimp lomeain to go, after late grocery trips to neighboring Giant. Total time=3 mintues. That's faster than McDonald's! For their consistently fast and friendly service +1 star.

Typical chinese. Consistently good food. Great service. Often on vacation... but good for them. Hey, if they have enough money and time to vacation AND still run a great business, that's saying something!

I kind of feel bad for the people that work here. I have lived here for most of my life and I swear the same two people have worked there since I can remember. They have been 65 years old for the last 20 years and have never looked happy. You get a lot of food for what you pay and it tastes really good, but it's kind of greasy. I would recommend it for people looking for fast and easy. Hunan Kitchen is right down the street and better quality in my opinion.

Hands down. Best Chinese food in the area, not to mention that the woman that runs the place is super nice and always gives great service with a smile.

The food at China Cafe is not good. I really hope that they change their recipes soon. We've gotten take-out from here at least a dozen times and it is always disappointing. It really makes me sad because the people are so nice and they try so hard but their food is just not good. General Tsaos - too much breading. Plus, we ordered chicken and weren't certain if we were eating chicken or pork (not a comforting thought!). Wonton Soup - When I ate it last week, the broth was too salty. Happy Family - the seafood was really really overcooked. Definitely not worth the $13 price tag and I felt super guilty throwing the leftovers out. Mushu Pork - this was surprisingly good the last time I had it. The plum sauce ( i think that's what they gave me) wasn't as good as the times I've eaten it at other places but the family definitely enjoyed this dish. Price wise, it is affordable but costlier than other area chinese places. If you are ordering from here because you made a trip to Giant, I recommend you head over to the other local grocery stores that have a chinese place in the shopping mall. It is well worth the 5 minute trip out of the way.

Totally run of the mill, generic Chinese food, shoved in between the GNC and the Starbucks in the Westbard shopping center. Reasonably sized portions and average prices for the same Chinese food you find at thousands of similar restaurants across the country. Nothing to write home about (or even to write yelp about) but it's there when you want Chinese. Oh, and there's some tables inside if you feel like eating in, but it has all the ambiance of a dentist's office.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
