Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Agio means saint in Greek. The food is decent but not something that would have you say holy cow. The burger gets an A but it will set you back $17 after the service charge is tacked on.

The breakfast bar is well stocked and they make hand tossed omelette's! A wide array of fruit including strawberries, blackberries, bananas, apples, honey dew melon, cantaloupe, pineapple, white grapes and more. Several types of meat including turkey or chicken sausage are a nice touch for those looking for less calories as well.

This review is strictly based on their breakfast buffet. After needing a place to grab a bite before heading to downtown D.C. my friends and I decided to give Agio a try since it's literally in the hotel for absolute convenience. Their breakfast buffet had a nice selection that particular day. The sausages were cooked well and the bacon was specially crispy. The omelette station was firing on four cylinders and the cook in charge of it new how to make omelettes properly. I stuffed mine with garden variety and some cheese for good measure. I got an omelette that was delicious and cheesy. Hey I couldn't ask for more. But then I saw the blintzes that they were serving. My good friend Arriene, who's Russian, said the blintzes were good and I wholeheartedly agree. Now if a Russian says the blintzes are good you better believe it. Also of note was their pancakes. I don't know what batter they used or who mixed it but it was darn fluffy. Like professionally fluffy. I couldn't believe it came from a hotel restaurant. I thought I was eating flapjacks from a dedicated house of pancake. Take it from me if you need breakfast while you're staying at the Marriott, you cannot go wrong with Agio. It's right there first of all and second the food is pretty darn good. I had no complaints and even were surprised with some of their offerings. I can't say how the rest of their service is during lunch or dinner but breakfast is the most important meal after all.

Interesting experience at the Marriott this evening. Met a couple of friends, had one beer and had my second one taken away, because apparently I was impaired. I bring the Marriott a lot of business each year. Whether meeting my friends for the awesome calamari and drinks or having my family from New Jersey visit and stay at the hotel the entire weekend. On average, it's a very nice hotel, but don't expect them to bend over backwards for you. In fact, I live nearby and when they have a function going on, they make sure everyone parks behind the gate. Why? Because most tourists do not know about the parking validation, so the Marriott totally cleans up at these events by charging the guest for parking they were entitled to anyway. Anyway, my generosity for the Marriott will be no longer. The rates are high. You could stay in DC for less and get more value for the buck. Apparently, I'm too impaired, but I was able to tell you how the Marriott works. Good luck with your future hotel endeavors!

Agio Overall 4 Stars Gold medal - Calamari Silver medal - Mark West Pinot Bronze medal - Filet Agio is the restaurant located in the Pooks Marriot. This restaurant really surprised me. Although, not every item was good, all the items that I ordered were pretty darn delicious! The calamari was the best that I've had. It was crispy and the marinara sauce was full of flavors. The Mark West Pinot was goooood. The waitress was nice enough to let us taste two different wines before we ordered a bottle. The Mark West tasted a bit fruity, oaky, and light. It is a very good wine. The filet was cooked perfect. It was very tasty and soft. PS-I do not recommend the bass. HAPPY HOTEL EATING!!

During a business trip in Bethesda I was staying at the Marriott with Agio inside. Agio serves as the primary restaurant for the hotel complete with a bar and service for all meals. It's a modern setting that fits in with the wood and red tones of the Marriott itself. Agio boasts big, comfortable seating with medium sized tables. I visited Agio twice during my stay and honestly, it was one of the more disappointing hotel restaurant experiences I've had in recent time: BREAKFAST Breakfast allows you two options: order from a menu or buffet. I chose to go with the buffet, which includes the usual fruits, cereals, baked goods and a combined waffle/omelet station. The food itself was good, with my egg white and cheese omelet being the highlight. The ingredients were all fresh including fresh mozzarella. The problem was with the service. I was seated quickly (near the hostess), but it took about ten minutes before my waitress appeared. She literally saw me and walked by me four times before coming over to ask me if I wanted coffee or tea. I had asked for water, but she didn't bring it so I had to ask again. I fear what would have happened if I had not chose the buffet over ordering food. Very disappointing service. CATERED DINNER My company arranged for a dinner at Agio in an enclosed back room. The service started well enough with offers of wine and drink. We then sat for about a half hour before they started taking our orders off a Prix Fixe menu. Once we ordered, we waited twenty five minutes before salads showed up as appetizers. It then took another twenty five or so minutes before the entrees showed up. In total I think I spent about a solid hour just waiting for food. The food was good, but nothing extraordinary. The salad was crisp and my fish entree was well cooked. I wasn't impressed by Agio on either visit. Most of their problem revolves around their service, not their food (which is average, something you'd expect from a hotel restaurant).

OK, I'll be blunt. I'm picky, and I am unimpressed with this hotel from the get-go (I will review it separately soon). I ordered a burger from room service tonight ($14.95) + 22% delivery and sales tax... total $24.20. I ordered it MEDIUM and without a bun (I told them I'm a celiac and can't have wheat). She seemed to understand this. The burger was NOT medium. It was RARE. (See photo). The fries had gluten on them, as I am now quite itchy. Not again.

Agio is a better than average hotel restaurant, frequented by staff of the nearby National Institutes of Health (NIH), as well as visiting scientists and local businessmen. The food is actually pretty good (Try the salmon), and the ambience is good for a quiet business lunch or a place to meet friends

We ate appetizers and dessert in the bar area. We ordered shrimp in pancetta and the four cheese tomato bruschetta both were really good. We also had vanilla ice cream and almond amaretto cake both were good. The amaretto cake seemed very commercial. The two glasses of wine were a bit pricey but good. The seating is comfortable but the decor is a bit dated. There are incongruously tiny TV's in the room, which struck me as weird. The service was good. I recommend it as a place for a light bite and a drink.
