Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I could not believe the bad reviews on one of our old favorites so we had to see for ourselves. I found the fare to be just as we remembered. The ambiance is lacking but food is what we came back for. Burrito Bill's Favorite is still my favorite. The old stand by is still standing the test of time.

This place has earned it's reputation for being poor quality food and overpriced. Just go to Plaza Tapatia across the street or Mother's Cantina in OC. Hopefully a new restaurant replaces this one soon, it's a waste of space.

My notes from having visited on 12/4. They're a bit busy for just having opened for the day. It must be because everyone, including us, is curious to see what Mexican in the Pines tastes like. We're seated. When the waiter shows up, no chips. It's a minor nit butI ask about it. He tells me that he's not allowed to bring out chips until we order. That's a first for me in Mexican restaurants. Cheap... Burritos are expensive! $18+! All have titles like "deluxe" this or that-perhaps to justify the cost. Steered clear. That's crazy talk for a burrito. I ordered the Durango Duo (~$12) and the wife Steak & Chicken Fajitas (~$20). When the chips arrive, they tasted as though they came out of a bag: not the least bit warm. The salsa is ridiculously sweet. What the hell? The meals come out! I start with the taco. Frankly, it's Ortega quality: ground beef, shredded lettuce, hard corn shell. Thoroughly dull. The enchilada is somewhat better. Ground beef, again, but with some cheese sauce on the inside. It's not bad but it's not that good. The rice with my meal is undercooked and lacking any interesting characteristics whatsoever. Awful. The wife likes the fajitas! The meat has a slightly tangy marinade. We like that.Another point in favor: the meals come out on warm (not hot as we are told) metal plates. For what it's worth, our server was friendly enough. And the venue is pretty. This particular spot has been the site of at least 2 restaurants over the past 3 years. Can La Ha break the streak? Probably if only because La Ha in OC, for some reason unknown to me, is popular with the locals. The rating is based on the food. Granted, Plaza Tapatia in West OC is even worse but there are no half stars on Yelp. If you want Mexican, consider Tequila Mockingbird in OC but kind of expensive or Cactus Cafe in OC and Selbyville.

This place just doesn't deserve to be in business. First, the $7.50 mango margaritas were terrible. They tell you that you'll only get chips AFTER you order. The chips were stale, thick, and cold. I've had better salsa from a jar. The prices are astronomical for a Mexican restaurant which would be ok with me if the food was great. Total check for 4 people, was $123. There were no spices evident in the preparation of the food. The chicken tacos smelled like crab and were essentially tasteless. I think the chicken came from a can. The shrimp in the fajitas had no seasoning whatsoever. The guac was actually ok but I like it bland. I'm disappointed, the place looks nice and is in a great setting. But the food means we won't be back.

Save your time and money and find someplace else to eat. The service was fine, but the food is awful. Salsa tastes like canned tomatoes and they used some velveeta cheese product on everything. The owner should be ashamed to call this place anything but a bar.
(1)Mark V.
The only positive is the service. This is by far the worst Mexican food I have ever had. They are not a southwestern restaurant, they advertise themselves as Mexican. If you like 70s music and food that tastes like something from the frozen section of the local grocery store than this is for you; otherwise don't waste your money.
(1)Lorri U.
Honestly, the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Start with the chips & 'salsa'. That was canned stewed tomatoes with chopped red onion. I actually had to cut the tomatoes, they were so huge you couldn't put them on a chip. Then for the beef enchiladas, beef was fine, but the sauce on top?? Canned cheese??? Should be a nice red sauce. It was also very burnt. Left it under the broiler a couple minutes too long. Then you move to the rice, it has some of those same stewed tomatoes but ABSOLUTELY no flavor, plus it brownish in color. The water was cold. That's about all that was good. We tried this last year & thought we'd give it another try! Ugh! Bad move!!!

Worst meal ive ever had in my life almost. Should of been a dead giveaway when there were two people at the bar and no one in the restaurant. I asked if my wife and daughter and i could sit in the bar area at a table and watch the orioles game. The old guy who seated us said he doesnt allow it because of customers dropping f bombs? Chips and salsa delivered to table were awful. My $7 margarita was all ice. And the tacos were a joke. Far cry from the la hacienda that was in ocean city. I will never return.
(1)Ed W.
I don't care how good their seafood burrito or margaritas are, after 10+ years of patronizing this business, I will never step foot through their doors AGAIN! Their voicemail stated they did not take reservations of less than 8 and our party consisted of 6 adults. I figured I'd leave a polite message asking if an exception could be made. I was delighted to receive a voicemail not more than 30 minutes later from a polite young woman who gladly indicated my accomodations wouldn't be an issue. The day was going swimmingly - the sun was out, the beach was beautiful, the water refreshing. An then we walked in the door of La Hacienda.... "We have a reservation for 6." "Umm, I don't take reservations, but I think I can find you a table." -- Can you? In your empty restaurant at 6:30pm, are you sure? Maybe you should get in touch with your staff and understand what's going on in your own establishment. Maybe that's why your other location closed. Not only was customer service lacking, but I found it completely abrasive. This is a manager (and I assume most likely an owner) displaying that kind of attitude, so I'm sure the staff follow his lead. We enjoyed our meal and drinks, and high-tailed it out of there. ADIOS MUCHACHOS!
(1)Jeremy B.
Food is OK, I liked the Chili but the Queso is like water with very little flavor and the salsa isn't much better. There prices are very high for the quality and portions you get. The Chicken Burrito comes with a single chicken breast that's maybe the size of your hand and the chicken has no flavor all for $17 bucks. The beef tacos have good flavor but you get very little meat mostly cheese and lettuce, you get 3 for $8 bucks. They have definitely gone down hill since they moved to there Ocean Pines location.
(1)Tom G.
I should have listened! The fajitas were 16.95 and BAD. Pre portioned chicken browned on a flat top. Two types of onions and 1(one) pepper strip, green. The tomatoes were out of a can and no guac. To start with the chips were out of a bag. And we had dinner at 5pm, happy hour prices only apply at the bar. Take your hard earned dollar across the street!
(1)Rudy K.
Not really all that good when you can go to Plaza Tapatia across the street. Actually Plaza Tapatia is more of a mexican place than here and the prices are much better. I went for the $1.25 tacos and got six with the wife and the bill was $30 plus a $6 tip so I would watchout for the Margaritas! I give it 2 stars because I was not impressed the few times I have been there including the Ex-Coastal Highway location.

This spot doesn't seem to work for any of the restaurants that seem to try to maintain a following here. Unfortunately, it seems that people are still trying this place out. For years, LaHa has been successful in Ocean City, and I always wanted to try them out. After finally trying their original location and not having an enjoyable experience there, I was hesitant about trying this new location out. Everything on the menu is super expensive for what it is. For the same amount of money, you could have decent food at many other nicer places in town. There are even less expensive mexican restaurants that actually prepare everything they serve. At La Hacienda, they served us COLD black beans, and burnt refried beans-so burnt they were stuck to the metal plate! Another strange thing is that their fajitas do not come out sizzling. It seemed like they just threw precooked and cold peppers and onions together on the plate with the meat or seafood and brought them out. The chips were horrible. Not even as good as tostitos! (and they aren't my favorite by far!) If you are from Pennsylvania, you might really enjoy La Hacienda. However, if you enjoy eating and love mexican food, do yourself a favor, and do not come here. Seriously, whoever heard of being served COLD beans?
(1)Amanda D.
I never had "southwestern" food before. I'm crazy for Mexican food so I was curious to see what the difference would be. It's mainly seasoning and different ingredients used in a similar way - kinda like Creeping Death Metallica versus The Unforgiven Metallica-- not as much spice, not as much bite in my opinion. But still tastes pretty damn good. They were kind and even altered my meal to be gluten free and vegan so that was great!
(3)JB G.
Mental note: read the reviews before dining out. How I wish I had done that. The restaurant is very and looks very nice. The staff was very friendly. Unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment. The salsa was more like stewed tomatoes with hot stuff in it. The rice was boil in the bag rice with some spices and shredded cheese. Really?! The Rockfish tacos were ok. To top everything off, the music was bad 70s and 80s music. I should have stuck with tried and true, Plaza Tapatia. Maybe I'll go for lunch tomorrow since I don't feel that I had Mexican tonight

La Hacienda doesn't even deserve one star. We went here on Friday night, 5/1/15, to hear the musicians. We were seated in the dining room after a brief wait. We placed our orders, 2 Neptune burritos and 1 Steak Fajitas. 1 glass of wine, 1 beer, 1 water. We were brought chips and salsa. The chips were awful and the salsa worse. The chips were thick and not salty - like they came out of a bag, and not made on premises. The salsa reminded me of stewed tomatoes, chunky tasteless hunks of tomatoes (didn't look like fresh tomatoes) with some onion thrown on top. Awful. My husband asked for a glass for his beer. I asked for lemon for my water. 3 times the waitress came to our table, and never brought the glass for the beer. Finally, my husband asked again, and she brought one, but said, "Just so you know, we don't keep glasses cold for beer". My husband didn't ask for a cold glass, just a glass. The food came out, and everything was lukewarm at best. How do you serve fajitas that aren't sizzling? They put the plate down in front of me, and I could put my hand on it, and it was just warm, not sizzling hot like fajitas should be. The Neptune burritos, which cost about $24, had some sort of bean sauce congealed on top. To the restaurants credit, the burritos did have a lot of seafood in them. Obviously our food had just been warmed up - it was not freshly cooked. When I complained to the waitress that my fajitas weren't hot, she said she asked the cook about it when she went to pick them up and he said "Just take them". So, I asked for the manager, and a woman manager came by to take the fajitas back. She wasn't too happy about me asking for my food to be hot. They came back a few minutes later and sizzled for about 10 seconds. Just not the way fajitas should be. Most times, fajitas sizzle for about 5 minutes, if they have been freshly cooked. When we left, the male manager at the front of the restaurant asked us how our meal was. We told him it was very poor, and mentioned that the food was not hot. He said that he personally took a temperature of the fajitas and they were at 125 degrees. I asked what they are supposed to be, and he said "about that". I mentioned that we were very disappointed and that the food was not hot. He then said that we should have brought it to his attention, and he would have adjusted our bill, but he couldn't do anything now since he didn't know about it. What??? He just told me that he personally measured the temperature of my fajitas, so what does he mean he didn't know that we were upset about our food? He then gave my sister-in-law a 10% off coupon to be used on a future meal. That coupon is a joke - 10%??? We won't be back. Totally disappointed. How do they stay in business? The food is awful and the management asks you about your meal, but doesn't really want to hear about your dissatisfaction. Don't bother with this place!

I'm a little surprised at all the low ratings. I mean it's not that bad.... We were taken here by a local charity for dinner, in my book that counts for something that hey are willing to give back to the community. I had the Shrimp Burrito's which I thought were excellent, not too spicy and the sauce was tasty. My son and Father-in-law had the Fish Taco's which they said were good . My daughter ordered a plain Quesadilla , just cheese & chicken. It cam with tomato & onion, she picked it off and ate it. When we told the server she profusely apologized ,blaming the kitchen and insisted on making her another to take home, even though we didn't want it. We shared some fried ice cream in which the coating was chewy. All in all not the best, but certainly not the worse.

Found this place a few years ago and thought it was decent enough at the time. Each subsequent year that we have come back it has gotten worse and pricier. Gave it one last try tonight. It was not too busy but it was 9pm. We asked to sit at a table in the bar. Our mistake. Only 6-7 people at the bar, tended by one bartender, Lori. She came right up to us to take our drink orders. Sangria came quickly but had tired looking fruit and an off taste. Probably made in a large quantity in the AM and left to sit all day. Wanted to play Keno. Keno tv was frozen. Mentioned it to bartender who hadn't noticed but went to reset it. When I went to play ticket, bartender didn't notice me even though she walked past several times and wasn't that busy. Mgr saw me waiting and took care of it. Went back to table and waited and waited- still no chips/salsa. Had to go to bar to order our meal even though we were told we didn't have to do that. Had to ask for chips/salsa too. Food showed up warm but not hot. Cold refried beans that I am sure came from a can. Yuck! Flavor of chicken/shrimp fajitas was good. Onions and peppers were bland and unevenly cooked. Tortillas were the small kind and not warm. Finished our meal. Bartender asked if we wanted anything else. We asked for a to go container and a few extra tortillas. She brought the container but not the tortillas. No check either. We waited 10 minutes and still no check. Went to bar to ask for it. Bartender only had 4 people at bar now, no other tables. She was talking to one pair at the bar. She walked right past me at least 4 times and never even acknowledged me or bothered to look my way. She did manage to watch quite a bit of the O's game while I waited and waited. I turned toward my table (which was completely visible from the bar) and saw a man bussing the table. I had to ask him to get our check for us since I apparently was invisible to the bartender during the entirety of this dining experience! I guess I know what a ghost feels like now! Not good! The man who brought the check also brought us the extra tortillas. I must say that he was more attentive and speedy than the bartender who was supposed to be waiting on us. I did my time over the years bar tending and waitressing so I know what is expected and what can be forgiven in the restaurant business. Our poor experience was due to the bartenders lack of skill/training. I blame management for that. I will end this by stating that we will never return to this place EVER!

The food was great. The tuna fajitas were a delightful treat. Our service was great and thr owner was great and friendly.

So this place does not deserve one star. Now, this place is not Mexican its Southwestern. Yes, the chicken tacos have celery in them, never had that before but I can't say I didn't like it, but it was different. The happy hour prices are awesome. $1.50 domestic and $2.50 imports, not to mention $1.50 beef, chicken or, bean hard tacos. My sweet baby had the rockfish tacos. She said they were a mix of Mexican and Asian. So to sum it up, if you think Chipotle is the best Mexican you've ever had, this isn't for you. If you want the real stuff had over to Tapatila across the street. Oh yeah, Lisa is a great bartender, you are lucky off you get her and try their home made hot sauce.
(4)Jennifer L.
Awful place. My husband and I went here and my 'vegetarian burrito' was $19. It was literally a wrap with cheap shredded lettuce out of a bag and slices of tomato and THAT WAS ALL. No onions, peppers, mushrooms, hots. WTF? It was awful. To cap it all off both my husband and I got extremely bad food poisoning that we are now is 99% sure is salmonella poisoning from this place. Which is my reason for this review. Do not go here!!!
(1)Whitney R.
Do not waste your time or your money. The food is horrible and the prices are ridiculous! If ya want great tex mex head on over to plaza tapatia right across the road!
(1)Andrew B.
This is our second time to La Hacienda, the first in the past 3 years. The only reason we came back was because a friend had given us a gift card for Christmas. Our expectations were low from our previous meal here, but the experience went even lower. First off, it was empty except for a few drunks at the bar. The menu is terrible with very little selection that was WAY overpriced. We ordered food for our kids (hot dog and chicken fingers, hard to screw those up), a taco salad, and chicken and a chicken burrito with a cheese enchilada. The chips and "salsa" served to us were from a tostitos bag and a pace picante jar, but if that is what you like then you are in business. The food sadly didn't get any better. The taco salad was bland and sad. The burrito, well they call it a burrito but they don't understand the definition of a burrito, was filled with cheese sauce so you couldn't taste the boiled, flavorless, tough chicken. There was a pool of red sauce on the plate that after careful inspection with my fork showed a enchilada to be lurking below. My wife and I said to each other that we were expecting Gordon Ramsey to walk in at any moment as the place deserves to be on Kitchen Nightmares. The best thing I can say was the service was very good, then again we were the only people there... I would save yourself a trip and go across the street or into OC looking for much better quality, and better priced, Mexican food.
(1)Mickey K.
Had I known this was the same place we grew to despise after more than enough chances. The cheese enchiladas were ok only while hot. Salsa, no heat. Refried beans, not actually refried ( more like heated with cheese on top). Not really a drink person but tried a margarita after the bartender Lori said she made a great one. It was ok, a little strong. Lori was too busy tonight to really pay attention to all her customers not that there that many. She was more interested in chatting with what I assumed were the locals. It was quite difficult to order the drink let alone get our bill even more to have her pick up the payment. Bummer.
(2)Andrea L.
Let me put is this way, we sat down and returned the food within a few minutes. It was horrible food but even worse wait service. I really hope everyone that goes there reads these reviews before going and doesn't go!!
(1)Christy D.
I love this place! Awesome queso, guacamole, and fajitas. The fajitas are MUCH more authentic than Plaza Tapatia, which is across the street. Everything is fresh and homemade. The fajita steak had a fantastic marinade that was unlike anything I've had at Tapatia. I'll definitely be back!
(4)Erica W.
Here's feedback from myself and both my parents. Loaded chicken nachos were good! Chicken fajitas were cold. That was a new one... They need to be served sizzling in a hot iron skillet (mgmt: please take note) Taco salad wasn't good; no real flavor and questioned whether chicken was fully cooked.
(1)Tara J.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. While the happy hour prices are good, the food is not. You can get away with eating their chips and salsa...that was decent. I have made better beef tacos with the Old El Paso kit you can buy at the store. The meat tasted like cheap grade beef, was mushy, and the sauce it was cooked in had no flavor. We also ordered chicken tacos. What a mistake! The chicken tacos consisted of unseasoned cubes of chicken and celery...CELERY. Who on earth puts celery in a taco...WITHOUT SEASONING?? Horrible. Ocean Pines really needs a decent Mexican restaurant. I recommend anyone in the area to go into the town of Berlin and try their Mexican place out. Much better than this!
(1)Nicolle D.
Here. I'll go off my normal agenda and do a pros/cons list. Pros: -Lots of parking -Edible food Cons: -Loud music -Mediocre food -Low waiter attentiveness -No one running the reception desk -The salsa was WAY too spicy The atmosphere was orange, red and blue-hardly appetizing. My wonderful grandmother who eats reheated broccoli said the food was awful. Worse than reheated broccoli!!! I like our little cantina back in Illinois much better-this place is a step up from Taco Bell. That's all I'm giving it.

My friends acquired a hallpass from their wives and went to OC for a weekend of boardgames/videogames and adult beverages. The beach houses are in Ocean Pines which is just over the bridge from OC and it takes a half hour to drive from the Pines to the main road so going out is a commitment. There is a few shopping centers as you enter the Pines and this was one of the new restaurants that looks like it just opened recently. The building is old, but I know that they were not here on the last trip so when the craving for Mexican came up on a Saturday night... the destination was easy.... right?? Sadly this was not a good time. "The Good" - The staff were very nice and service was relatively fast. "The Meh" - Just going out on a limb here and saying that this place is not a Mexican restaurant is being very polite. They may serve burritos and tacos but when they have "market price" for Fish Tacos and they come out a few steps above fish sticks there may be an ego problem. By the way, the market price was around thirteen dollars. The average price for a burrito, twenty. It is safe to say that they will have a lot of first time customers that are looking for a great meal... some of them will be turned off by the prices and those that stay will not be satisfied with the food. "The Bad" - The prices are insane for the quality of the food. The prices are what you would expect for a Fine Dining restaurant. Location and Intention do make make for a fine dining restaurant... - There was an order of guacamole placed for the table and it arrived very fast but was essentially avocado in a bowl... There were a few bits of tomato but nothing to get your hopes up. I attempted to fix the glitch and asked our server for some cilantro, jalapenos, limes and extra salsa to make it more palatable. Everything arrived with the exception of Cilantro... which was a bad sign as it would have been a nice addition in my main course it being a staple in Mexican cuisine... We were told that they did not have any and do not really use it... wow. - The chips were from a bag. granted that chips are free but they also set the stage for what kind of meal you are going to have. For what they are shooting for they should have a fryer and some fresh tortillas being dropped for every table. - The quality of the food was not par with a standard Mexican restaurant... sadly, there was nothing here that would make me want to return. The food added to the mediocre experience and we all left not really satisfied and actually disappointed in the choice for dinner. - I had chicken fajitas and the chicken tasted like it was cooked at the beginning of the evening and put in a sheet pan to be kept warm in the oven... - There was nothing here that would make me want to go out of my way to return.
(1)Mr. F.
VERY expensive, the food is terrible, and they never got our order correct. They charge about $20 for the entree burritos. That is a lot of money for a burrito that doesn't look or taste very good. I got a side of guacamole and chips with salsa. The guac was made with fresh ingredients, but it tasted very blah. The salsa was SO BAD. I'm pretty sure the salsa was made with canned crushed tomatoes.
(1)Bubo O.
Pros: -Good location -Lots of parking -Clean -Well maintained -Indoor and outdoor bars -Friendly service Cons: -Poorly prepared, unappealing ,simplistic Mexican food -High price Reccomendation: Good place for a drink, I hope they completely rework their menu.

Let me start off by saying I am a resident of the Pines so I am literally "starving" for new restaurants to open in the area. Also, I am not cheap when it comes to dining. I have no problem paying for good food or convenience. OK now La Ha's has a reputation for being a locals spot in OC but no locals I know go there regularly because the food is not that good and the prices are too high. Regardless, Ocean Pines is getting a new restaurant and I want to support it. As I said before I'll pay for convenience. So we checked out the new spot the night after it opened. Looks good, nice crowd. We were told 1/2 hour wait but it was only like 15 mins. It seems they were smart enough to bring over their experienced staff from the beach to get this place up and running and it showed. Great service for such a busy new restaurant and the food came out hot and fast from the kitchen. Unfortunately those were the only good things about the place. The salsa you receive with the chips (after you order) is the worst ever. It appears to be a combination of vinegar and stewed tomatoes. The hot sauce is only slightly better and not hot. The prices are a bit steep for Mexican food (knew this before I walked in the door) but hopefully the flavors and ingredients will justify them. Nope! The chicken entrees (burrito, chicken taco salad) taste something like a pot pie. Boiled shredded chicken without a hint of cilantro, cumin, chile, lime or anything with flavor. Also, who puts celery in Mexican dishes??? These country folk put it in everything. The portions are good sized so we didn't leave hungry, just unsatisfied. As I stated earlier the service was fast and efficient. I would love to support this place but I don't believe anything on the menu would satisfy a craving for Mexican food. I also heard that they are not going to carry over any of their weekly specials from the OC location. It will be interesting to see how crowded their parking lot is once the initial buzz dies. Also, the bar inside really has nothing going for it other than being a place to have a drink while waiting for a table but, the gazebo bar on the water out back looks really cool. We'll check that out in the spring

The system forced me to give a min of one star but LaHa doesn't deserve any stars! The worst food!!! We have given LaHa so many chances and decided never to return after tonight's meal. Their chips are not homemade and taste like cardboard. The chicken enchilada had bones in it and was hard. The pork was so overlooked it was the texture of beef jerky. My guess is that this restaurant will be closed this summer.
(1)Michael Z.
If I could give this place negative stars I would. I have never in my life had such a negative experience at a restaurant with absolutely zero redeeming qualities. Our night began like many evenings in Ocean City searching for a place to eat that didn't have a wait of approximates ten lifetimes. As my party and I were on our way to Ocean Downs racetrack to take in some races and light gambling we figured we'd search near our destination. Found this place nearby and woe unto me for not checking yelp first. The location of the restaurant itself is fairly nice for an OC restaurant outside of the main city. It's nestled in a small shopping center of various restaurants and business with a refreshing new look about it. There's a neat little pond in front with a fountain that gives a fairly nice view that's off the main highways leading into OC. The interior of the restaurant is rather bare bones. You've got your booths and slightly tex mex looking colors on the walls yet the interior of La Hacienda feels strangely dated in comparison to how new and refreshed the exterior of the shopping center looks. The first red flag came when we entered the restaurant. There was no line (amazing!) but there was also nobody at the host booth. Five minutes of standing there a large heavy set man with dark hair and glasses comes speed walking from around the corner announcing he'll be right with us but he needs to go make some salsa really quickly. A quick glance comparing his dress to the other wait staff in the restaurant lead me to the conclusion that he was the manager on duty or, even worse, the owner. Throughout the night this man was seen speeding around the restaurant performing various duties (sitting people, cleaning tables, bringing food out, etc). When you see the manager on duty doing all these things this should be an extreme warning sign that this particular establishment is direly understaffed - especially when the place appears to have no more than 70% of the tables in use on a Saturday night. So we finally get seated 15 minutes after arriving despite there being nobody else waiting for a table. That's fine. Our table is slightly sticky - par for the course for hungry OC diners who just want a burrito fix. The menu itself is fairly packed with your standard tex mex like items. My entire party opted to order the "Neptune's Burrito" which is your standard burrito except the meat is listed as a mix of various seafood - shrimp, clams, etc. Seemed like an intriguing idea. This is where things really went wrong. After placing our orders 30 minutes passed without sight of the tiny waitress who took our order. We have none of the margaritas we ordered and no food. Finally we saw her return to our area speeding pass to talk to new diners who just arrived. We grabbed her on her way back to the kitchen and she apologized and said our food would be "right out" adding that "burritos take a while". Well apparently La Hacienda operates in a temporal vortex because "right out" meant drinks would appear in 15 minutes and the food would take another 25. My leading theory is the kitchen is staffed by indentured turtle servants. Remind me to report them to PETA. So one hour wait for food after being seated we finally get our food. And guess what? The innards of the burritos were room temperature. and the shredded cheese was ice cold *inside* the burrito. How in the flipping flip do you make a burrito so incompetently? It tasted terrible. Absolutely awful. Not to mention the sides (rice and beans) were both freezing. Tiny waitress doesn't appear again for 20 minutes to pose the standard question "How is everything?" with a tone of voice that I couldn't pin down as sincere desire to please or dead inside soulless automation. Now I'm not one to be "that guy" and complain at a restaurant when something is wrong. But being served this food was such an affront to my person that I, and my entire party, felt obligated to complain. No way were we going to pay almost $20 per burrito for something not even my dog would eat. Tiny waitress does the correct thing at least - goes and gets the manager. The same overweight stressed out dude with brown hair and glasses comes out and asks what the problem is. When we list our grievances he snaps back at our entire table with "Well it looks like you ate it all so...". This is the part I found the most offensive. Not only was there not a single redeeming quality about this restaurant but the manager himself was argumentative when confronted with the facts. He stormed off angrily and sent the tiny waitress out to report that one burrito had been taken off our meal. Honestly they should have paid us damages for the two hours of our lives we'll never get back. In summary I'd recommend La Hacienda if you're some sort of masochist who enjoys punishing yourself with terrible food, abysmal service and arguing with snide managers.

Average at best Mexican food . Extremely overpriced, u don't get what u pay for that's for sure. Canned food to the max. I would suggest tequila mockingbird ... Worth the drive for better food!

AVOID THIS PLACE. It has overpriced and mediocre food and horrible service. This was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in quite a while. There are so many things to complain about. The food is ridiculously overpriced. $20 for a burrito entree? The food quality is very poor. It is neither rich Americanized Tex-Mex with lots of beans and cheese nor authentic Mexican with ingredients like cilantro, but rather a discordant set of bland and overcooked ingredients the kitchen threw together. The salsa was a weird sweet-spicy combination that tasted like a Pace Picante reject batch. The "crispy" tacos were cold and soggy. The service was horrible. It took forever for our order to go into the kitchen, for us to get refills, for the food to come out, etc. The waitress consistently forgot people's orders or brought the food out to the wrong table. At one point, after presenting another wrong dish to the wrong table, she exclaimed to nobody in particular, but to the restaurant as a whole: "I never promised to be the best waitress ever." When I pay TWENTY BUCKS for a burrito, it is not too much to expect even a basic level of service. Even in the offseason, there are so many better alternatives if you are in Ocean Pines. If you want Tex-Mex, go up the road to Selbyville Cactus Cafe for better food, service and value. Shoot, you would be better off going to Food Lion to get microwave burritos. Seriously, if you are looking for a fine dining option near Ocean Pines, this isn't it. Try the Marina Deck or even the Yacht Club.
