I was in town for a conference and my hotel recommended Peter's (which is next door to this one). I just really wanted to sit outside and people watch, so I went here instead. I had the pulled pork sandwich, waffle fries, and cold slaw. All were excellent. I would definitely return.

Was directed here by my hotel staff. For some inexplicable reason, you can't buy a six pack of beer on Sunday in Baltimore. I know. Seems unAmerican, doesn't it? Well the great staff at The Water Street can take care of you even if the communist government of Maryland tries to tell you what you can or cannot do on a Sunday afternoon during football season. Friendly and sympathetic bartender, can and will sell you a six-pack of beer to take back to your hotel room. I will go back next time I'm in town. Seems like a great place to hang!
(4)Kristina M.
The food is good and a great atmosphere, just very overpriced for bar food and the drinks were also WAY overpriced. Good service and great bartenders.
(3)Scott B.
Nice relaxing place next to my hotel where I can sit outside & enjoy a beer. I cant attest to the food, but sitting outside on a good night is as relaxing as it gets.

Found The Water Street Tavern by accident glad we did ! We had the grouper and it was cooked to perfection ! Fries were not greasy and the beer was cold ! Randy was very friendly as was his brother ( sorry forgot his name )! We will go back whenever we go back to Baltimore !

I was very disappointed in the difference between their menu description and what arrives at the table. Specifically, the crabcake ($14.95) says "no filler" on the menu, but it arrives heavily crusted in Panko and deep fried. This is more like a "crab patty", made with shredded crabmeat and no lump. The $7.95 lunch specials are a good deal, I should have chosen the club sandwich, because this crabcake has no right to call itself Maryland. I expressed my disappointment to the manager who just shrugged. $40 lunch and I left hungry. I won't return.

One of the best pastrami sandwiches I've had in MD; and comin from a native NYer, that's pretty high praise... The seasoned fries were seasoned well. Result - I'm full!! **Nice**!!!!

I popped in for a quick brew one weekday afternoon. I think I was the only one in the place, as it was after lunch. Friendly bartender, cold beer, cheap domestic drafts in either a standard or large (20 oz) pour on lunch special prices. Nice hole in the wall to knock back a few unpretentious frosty ones.
(3)Donald K.
Wonderful flounder sandwich and seasoned fries. Good lunch value for $10. Great service

Came back again for this year's otakon. Had a bunch of people with me and the bartender was great, the drinks were awesome and cheap. The seasoned waffle fries and chicken are delicious. Watched the Olympics and the whole bar broke out in a USA chant. Get the cherry lemonade, it's dangerously tasty. Natty boh and Yuengling on tap. Water Street has become part otakon for me. TLDR: Great food, Cheap Tasty drinks, Cool bartenders.

Came in here around 3:30 this past Sunday. Wasn't expecting it to be busy, but there were only 4 other people. The menu was underwhelming; I absolutely love crepes, but this tavern did not look like it could do that well. After mulling over the menu, I chose the tomato/mozzarella/spinach panini. My boyfriend ordered the chicken. He liked the chicken, but he was starving, so I take his opinion with a grain of salt. I'll admit that the panini was tasty, but it was small and only came with a side of pickles, so I felt the $9.50 price was a little steep. I understand that there was no one there, but the waitress/bartender seemed too involved with her fellow employee and magazine that she was flipping through. The Water Street Tavern did its job, but I will probably not be making a return trip by choice.

This place is OPEN! Normal bar hours, call if you're not sure they're open. My boyfriend and I were tourists to Baltimore and wandered into Water Street looking for the Tigers vs Orioles game on a busy football sunday. Our bartender, Leanna, was happy to turn the game on for us and even put the game through the main speakers per our request (and after a quick once over with the bar to make sure all patrons were okay with it) We had the buffalo wings to snack on, they were tasty but very fried. The bar is limited to craft beers, which is great if that's what you're looking for! The bartender was very knowledgable as to which craft beer was most similar to more well known brews. Great experience over all!

Great bartender Lara and a really good pastrami sandwich. Definitely recommend if you are down by the water.
(5)Tray D.
Had a Caribbean chicken burger. It was salty.... I will not be eating here again... plus the waiter charged us a $2 convenience fee for using a credit card prior to us even paying. Needless to say we used cash....

LeAnna is awesome!! This place is a hidden gem and definitely shouldn't be missed!!! Lunch specials and happy hour are great too!

July 16, 2014 - This place is open - sans crepe place - little bit o' reggae in old part of Baltimore. Key West theme. Divish. Patio. 2 TV's in bar. Bar seats about 15. Patio another 30ish. Cool staff.

Stopped in here a month or so ago after getting pulverized by the bar exam to water myself down with some drinks with a friend. We crushed some Orange Crushes and talked to the barkeep for a bit. Dude was real cool and when they closed down we went next door to have some more drinks with him and some friends. Even better, he was a US Navy Veteran, so we had a lot in common to talk about. Definitely check it out. Orange Crush drink can be pretty lethal if you're not careful (and we weren't careful, haha). They also have some awesome Old Bay wings. I don't visit Baltimore often (see: at all) but if I did and was downtown, I'd come here for wings and some drinks. Happy Hour specials are incredibly cheap, too.

So great. Walking from CVS and our terrible bloody mary experience at the harbor, we saw this place and thought it was harmless. Again...we're on vacation and wanted to just sit outside with a drink. Mission accomplished. Great local place, with a friendly bartender. I ordered the coconut shrimp at they were surprisingly good! Yeah! Cold brew to wash away the burning bloody mary. Good location, good food, good service, great patio and open air bar....a ok in my book.

I came here on a recommendation from the bar tender at my hotel (apparently they get 50% the menu of recommend the place). The Water Street Tavern is situated directly next to Peter's, which am I told is owned by the same people. Peter's is a bit more upscale, while Water Street Tavern is a bit more laid back. They both looked nice with outdoor seating that quaintly spills out into the alleyway. It was too cold for me to sit outside, but it looked really nice. I sat myself at the bar and the bar tender gave me a jolly greeting, introduced himself, and shook my hand. He remembered my name throughout the duration of the night and was more than friendly and accommodating. After ordering my bourbon, I tried to order the clams casino to start - unfortunately they were out of them, and apparently had been out for some time, as the bar tender made the comment "I keep telling them to just take it off the menu because everyone tries to order them". I quickly switched my order to the crab dip (this place is two blocks from the Inner Harbor) which was delicious. It had some serious lumps of crab meat, which are my #1, 2, and 3 requirements when consuming crab dip. I ended up ordering the grouper sandwich for dinner and I can't complain. The fish was tasty and flakey. All in all I had 3 bourbons, 1 beer, crab dip, grouper sandwich, and my total bill was $54 (not including tip - I left a good one). Not too shabby. I will be back on my next trip to Baltimore.

Service has never been their strong point, but World Cup Thursday and management obviously planned more poorly than usual. One server in the whole place, 20 minutes to get beer, food probably still on the way.... I left and won't be back.

We came here at an odd time and it was not remotely busy. So I'm not sure if this was the reason but the service was excellent and our food came out very quickly. We had lunch specials so the price was good too. The portions were large. The food was good, overall solid. I was a big fan of the waffle fries, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. As we had just stopped by quickly for lunch we did not try out the bar. The indoor bar is fairly small but the patio outside had a fair sized area for seating. Good place to take a break and people watch.
(3)Tiffany Y.
Food was incredible, the bartender (Joe) was awesome. He has turned me on to eating my crab cake with mustard. OMG, SOOO freaking good. I highly recommend this place and will come back next time I visit Baltimore! :)
(5)Norman F.
Good place for a beer and burger after a game. This place seems to focus on visitors and has transient customer. The service was very slow on a Saturday night. Wings took 20 minutes to show up after ordering. Burger was overdone. Brisket sandwich was great. Best to sit at the bar and order since wait staff is double duty. I would avoid eating dinner here if you are time stessesed or very hungry.

The last stop on a friday afternoon bar-hopping happy hour tour. Yelp says they open at 1130pm, but I think they meant to put AM...they were definitely open at 5pm... We chose this place over the Peter's place 2 restaurants down the street because it had a better looking food menu. The happy hour menu consisted of several $7 apps and some cheap rail drinks ($5? I think). They also serve 32oz glasses of yuengling and one other beer for $5 a piece during this time. We sat outside. I ended up sticking with water and my g/f got a vodka soda. She said her drink was good. For food, we got the chicken tenders and the crab dip. The tenders were a little overcooked, but still moist and tender inside the skin. They came with a very small dipping sauce of sweet/sour sauce. My g/f didn't like the sauce and used ketchup, but I thought it was decent. The crab dip was more tasty in my opinion and the chips came seasoned with old bay on them - a pretty neat idea. Overall the HH food was so-so, but hit the fix I was looking for. I'm a craft beer kind of guy and this place did not meet that need. I see a lot of complaints posted here for service...but both the bartender and the one server were rather quick to get us our food and drinks. The big muscular server guy was on top of things for the several tables of guests. I didn't see anyone unhappy or leaving because of poor service in this visit. Like most places, it may be hit or miss. Anyway, if you're just looking to get some cheap beer and some decently cheap eats, this place looks to be a decent place to stop by. I do see how some folks here say it's a tourist trap, but it looked better than the other options right nearby.

Co-workers and I stopped in for a bite. Burgers were great, crab cake sandwiches were also really good. Good selection of local brews. Awesome service.
(4)C S.
Stopped by here off chance on a nice sunday. Sat outside and really loved the atmosphere and the food. You can tell this place is part of the owner's dream. It feels good and you feel like someone really cares about serving good food and people having a good time. I hope it never changes.

Vince is an amazing mixologist!. Love his drinks!. Great spot for football!.
(5)Sean B.
Let me start by saying the service was good, although the bartender was clueless about the food. The beers they had on tap were fine but served in disposable cups as are the shots and mixed drinks... Unforgivable. The promise of homemade food got my hopes up but when it arrived the first bite dashed those hopes. Almost indelible. The worst part is this place isn't cheap either. If it was cheap I could forgive them for some of their missteps.

Nice place to hang out in after a long day. Outdoor seating nice for people watching.

Was steered here by the front desk at the Springhill Suites when asking for "a quick meal close by." It's certainly close, on an unassuming alley/street. My visit was around 7pm on a non-busy Wednesday evening. Sat at the bar where I was ignored by the middle-aged, female bartender for a good 5 minutes (she could have been 30 and just had a rough life, I suppose...hard to tell). Asked what local beers they had on tap and she rattled off 2. I went with the Pale Ale. She returned a few seconds later and said they were out of the Pale Ale. I asked for an IPA in a bottle. She then stated, "so you want a pale ale?" I said, "No, an IPA." She said, "they are the same thing." Ok...not going to argue...just want to get to the actual food ordering part of this visit. Food menu is pretty "greasy spoon/bar" in nature. I went with the crab cakes seeing that I'm in Baltimore. The description, in ALL CAPS, said "NO FILLER!" So I ordered those and asked for rice instead of fries. "Well, you'll get rice if we have rice," was the response. It must have been my lucky night because I did actually get rice. I also got a large crab cake full of filler (bread crumbs and coated in a panko sort of material. Crab cakes didn't really have an actual taste. Just a soft, puck-like blob of breaded/coated ground up fish. It was served with some equally tasteless slaw mixture, a "salad" (a few shreds of Romaine and unripe tomatoes) and the aforementioned rice. I guess for a $19.99 entree, I expected more. No bread or anything either. Finished the meal without her checking on me. Dirty plate sat in front of me for a good 5-10 minutes. Had to pull out my card and start tapping the bar to get her attention to the fact that I was ready to pay my tab and depart this depressing establishment. She returned with the bill, swiped my car and never said "thank you." Beyond this surly bartender, the rest of the staff appeared to be equally zombie-like. Maybe this is a really great local hangout and I'm just missing something. If coming here expecting more than what I wrote above, keep your expectations low and perhaps consider some alternatives.

Pros: lots of TV's at the bar. Somewhat cute Russian barkeep chick. She has her crew of gals at the bar. I had the crabcake sandwich and mozzarella & Tomato salad - both served in 5 minutes, which was very unexpected. Tasted good (3.5/5 stars) Cons: meal for myself was $35. And that's WITHOUT alcohol.

Our family went there for lunch. The place was quiet (we were the only patron on Easter Sunday), nice decor, waiter was nice. wife ordered Macaroni and cheese with crab meat, linguini with meatballs, and my wife ordered the crab cake for me. So although my wife tasted the crab cake, I ate most of it. After we finish and went back to hotel, both of us were very tired and feeling labored, I felt terrible the whole day with headaches and nauseated, finally threw-up. Went to bed with headache woke up the next with "hang-over" (didn't touch alcohol at all). Totally ruin my Easter Vacation.

I have no idea about the food, but this is my favorite place to enjoy a few beers in downtown Baltimore, especially when the weather is good enough to sit outside. Very laid back and unpretentious place, the only one around this area with a proper pub feel and outdoor seating. Friendly bartenders and nice patrons.
(4)Ashley P.
The Water Street Tavern is the perfect place in downtown Baltimore to grab a drink. . . a real drink, have some good conversation, and relax in a comfortable atmosphere. None of that tourist trap business over here. The bartenders make it a point to get to know their customers. I came here almost every day of my trip to grab a drink. The only thing you need to know about this place is: Drinks = DELICIOUS!!! They really know how to mix a drink here. Didn't matter what it was that I ordered. . . it was always the best one I'd ever had of it. Amaretto Sours, Pina Coladas, the list goes on. I got the same review from my bf about their Bloody Marys. The bartenders really seem to care about what it is they serve. I can appreciate a bartender who would drink whatever they mix. Cheap too! Prices here are more comfortable on the wallet than down by the water. The outdoor bar area is a breezy covered area with ceiling fans and adirondack chairs. It boasts a walk up bar and great music. Upstairs is a darkly wooded sit down bar with flat screen tvs, free popcorn, and a baby grand piano for anyone to play at. The bar technically closes at midnight but if there are customers they'll stay open until 2 am. They're almost always open to 2 on the weekends. I highly recommend this bar to any tourist that wants to be treated like a local in downtown. It was a breath of fresh air to find this place on my trip. Check it out! You'll be pleasantly surprised!

Great reggae blaring is what brought us over to this bar, and the claim on the chalkboard about the world's best bloody. The chalkboard was not lying. Fantastic bloody mary's! I mean, delicious. Crazy amount of garnish! n'oleans style. Great service, friendly staff, this is a place worth having a beverage on the way anywhere. Has outdoor seating if you can get it, In chairs that are so comfortable, it is hard to leave.

On Tuesday when very little is made in the Resturant/bar business , this incredibly unfriendly thing tending bar could not have been more uninviting unwelcoming you are on the phone when we get there you don greet us even after you get off the phone you just come over and stand at our table, you didn't say anything even when i ask you if you have a drink menu you still don't say anything you just find the menu sling it at us and walk away. we order a margarita and a corona you say we don't have salt that's the first thing that you said to us didn't even acknowledge we had ordered drinks just we aint got salt, Goodbye to your little ten buck tip on a Tuesday, if i do come back probably not i will stiff who ever is tending bar for GP

Caveat emptor... Tourist trap. The chicken sandwich was drier than the Sahara Desert. Horrible- stay away from this establishment.
(1)Ankit A.
This place just opened about 2 months ago, but needs to try harder at making better food. I got the So-Cal Chicken crepe but the pesto didn't seem fresh at all, also, the chicken was dry and didn't taste "marinated" as the menu proclaimed. While ordering, the server asked if we'd like pasta salad, potato salad, or cole slaw on the side but forgot to mention that it costs an extra $3. Also, skip the pasta salad, it's just rotini marinated in tons of italian dressing. I'm willing to give it another chance in another 4 months, giving them 6 months of operations under their belt to give it another go... but I also wouldn't be surprised if they went out of business by then. I've seen these types of places come and go often in the city, and have found if you don't grab the attention of your customers the first time with good quality food, you're not going to be sticking around much longer.
(2)Michael D.
My old review was removed. Bottom line, avoid this place for food. Do not go here. Service, food and cost were all terrible.
(1)Karen P.
Came here for lunch. Food was good and service was fine. My boyfriend asked the server to suggest a drink so she brought him an Orange Crush. Expected to spend no more than $30 on 2 sandwiches and a drink - the bill came out to close to $45. They add a 20% post-tax gratuity on game days (we were there at 2pm on a day when the Orioles were scheduled to play at 4pm), which is not indicated on the menu. Also, the drink the server suggested ended up costing more than both of our sandwiches - they used premium vodka without asking. Wouldn't come back here again.

I've passed by this spot a few times before but never went in. I saw they had a Google Offer a few days ago so I popped in on my way home from work. Looks like a great location to pre-party before an O's game and that's what I had in mind. Apparently they have 2 rooms (restaurant/bar) a downstairs pool table room and outdoor seating so you can get in where ya fit in. I pulled up to the bar and was properly introduced to all the patrons by the bartender. Who does that anymore? The bartender even had conversation topics and that day's topic was time travel. The day before was Zombie apocalypse. Already I knew that this was a social setting. I like. So, while at the bar I bought the Google Offer so you know I'm locked in for at least one more visit. 20oz Boh was $5 on Happy Hour. A bit steep for my liking but as I saw suit after suit walk in at 5pm I assumed this place was making a good buck on folks who could pay it so I can't fault that. I'll have to update this here when I return and try the food. But so far this spot has everything I want. Good vibe, good folks, versed bartender and not just in mixing drink but in mixing company. That's a plus anywhere you go.
(3)Michael F.
Great place to pregame with other people before you go out. Drinks are cheap, food is average. However, the bartender is cool and always welcoming.
(4)J G.
Food is pretty basic (pub fare) -- but what's great is to find this nice oasis downtown where you can eat outdoors, watch the people and the traffic roll by, listen to some tunes, and enjoy a nice drink.
(4)BETTIE B.
I spent several evenings at this establishment chilling with my friends and soaking up the Baltimore atmosphere. I tried several dishes including the Buffalo Dips and delicious crepes. The owner was very nice and attentive to us. The drinks are the bomb. A great place to chill after work.

A change in location for a business seminar took me from an Atlanta destination to one of Baltimore. I'm so glad that it did, because I had the opportunity to enjoy "the Tavern." Our bar tender/server Mike was as legit as it gets for wait staff. Friendly, engaging, courteous, an all around great guy. He joined myself and an associate for a few drinks and some excellent conversation that seemed to have no end in sight as we went into the wee hours gradually enlisting passers-by from New Jersey, Indiana, and Illinois to join in the fun. If you're not a social person, this is still a place for you... a nice spot for people watching just off of Light street (we were even treated to an ambulance on water street with the wrong address apparently), and the food... oh goodness. As a resident of Kansas City and a born and raised St. Louisan, I highly recommend the Brisket Sandwich. The price was right for food and drink alike, and it was an experience to say the least. I believe it was a Thursday night, so I can only imagine what the weekends could be like.

So I am staying next door at the Residence Inn. The Water Street has a a tiny outdoor bar and another upstairs indoor. Great combo, right? Yes- unless the idiot owner is in house. The staff was WONDERFUL, the beer was cold and the owners wife, who is from York, PA, is a wonderful & cute lady. And then along comes the friggin' Ogar/ Owner!!!! What a complete & total toolbag! This guy was ready to go home at midnight- end of discussion- so everybody was forced to go- despite a 2am license, which matters to us west coast folks. 2 young ladies who work at the Residence Inn showed up at midnight looking for a quiet drink, and the owner was clearly upset. Clearly, customer service is his super weak point. As a rule, I avoid places where the owner is a self centered idiot and toolbag- this is just such a place. If you are in a pinch for a cold drink, come here- if not, run for your happiness life! Never support a biz where the owner is an obnoxious creep!!!!
