Stopped here on a Saturday for lunch. The place was totally empty. Very interesting decor; traditional I guess. I placed my order of pad thai with vegetables to go. My food was ready in 10 minutes. Well, it was ok but nothing special. I wanted my pad thai from Thai Restaurant to be special but it wasn't. I miss the DC area, much better selection of Thai option. Le sigh.

Probably the worst pad thai I have ever gotten. My tofu wasn't even all the way cooked, it was raw in the middle. The noodles were all sort of weird shapes and inconsistent, the seasoning, was bland and couldn't taste much. Probably top ten worst meals I've had. besides feeling horrible after eating it, it consisted of 99% noodles and 1% sauce or anything else. It was pricey, I paid 18.00 for a thai coffee and a small plate portion of bad thai and a small side of rice. I would never ever go back here. I did however go to Maureen in Canton, that place was amazing. *dont bother going to this place.

I am not a fan of Asian cuisine but the hospitality and quality of the food here was amazing. I got the pan see ew with chicken and a little spice added. I appreciate that this restaurant gives you options when it comes to how spicy you want it. The decor was traditional, the fried cheesecake topped off as a great dessert choice. For a three course meal for two - $50 wasn't horrible but I think other Thai places are a little more economical than this place. It was worth it though.

Best Thai food in Baltimore! Service is great. Food is as spicy as you can handle.

I have been to this old fashioned cozy spot many times and it never disappoints. One can have a peaceful conversation here without noisy techno decor jamming in people and furniture. On this particular night they saved my health with a clear broth soup with chicken/shrimp dumplings and lots of lethal pepper bits floating around. End of congestion and cold. Curry orders with chicken were decent if lacking complexity. Green curry, maybe a bit bland and my panang heartier. There could have been more vegetables but the chicken was ample if a bit tough. (I'm spoiled by organic chicken.) Ginger tea was amazing if a bit too sweet, but gingery and steaming. A shared dish of rambutan (canned, like lychee) topped off a solid good meal. The men who serve are always soft spoken and pleasant, even if I have to insist on spicy.

This place isn't known to very many people, but it's a great thai restaurant. Food: - drunken noodles: really good. one of the best i've had. i got it spicy level 1, which was just right. when i got level 2 i ended up on the struggle bus. i wish the portion were a little larger - pad thai: good but not the best. i've had better - red curry: really good. authentic thai curry taste. the bowl looks like a small portion, but it will fill you up - panang curry: really good as well - calamari: surprisingly good! never had thai calamari before, but it's just a different kind of batter so it's a little more like tempura - thai tea: sweet and tasty price: average for thai food location: people say it's sketchy, but it's really not too bad. take a group with you if you wanna be extra cautious, they have lots of room. service: good service. nothing to comment for good or bad. THEY SPLIT CHECKS! i don't know why but this makes life always easier at a restaurant. I highly recommend this place, especially if you go to Hopkins because it's a walkable distance, great thai food, and decent price.

We get takeout here when we're in town maybe 1-2 times a year for last 6 years. Something has changed since last year and the food we just had was terrible. Yuck. Giving 3 starts because maybe a bad night. Hopefully it wasn't indicative of a new chef or recipes or something. Not greatest part of down. Choose wisely on when you plan to visit.

I took two friends here and the waiter is extremely rude. This is my friend's first visit here and they had a very unpleasant night here.

I've gone here for many years and LOVE their food (Drunken Noodles are divine), however the owner's son who works at the restaurant can almost ruin any meal. I would gladly rate the food at 4 stars or above, but the "angry son" perpetually "on the rag" could close the doors on any business. He is very curt, impatient with guests, and can be downright snarky with no shame. He has forgotten items in my take out orders, becomes incredibly defensive, nearly hangs up on folks when calling in orders, and eye-rolls his responses to requests. I'm convinced this bad energy can transfer into food, so I go there less and less each year. No one deserves his unsolicited side portions of wretchedness. Plus, who knows when this kid is gonna crack and will poison everyone in the place. Oh, and the neighborhood? Let's just say, you need a police escort.

Favorites were the drunken noodles, pineapple fried rice and vegetarian 703 w/ tofu. Best Thai food I've had. Nice atmosphere and service was great.

I have been to this restaurant twice in the last month and each experience was great. My guest were pleased with their Pad Thai and Tom Yung soup. I was pleased with the Pad See Ew and the Curry with potatoes. The owner is so nice, the service is great, and the food is delicious!!!! If you like Thai, you have to visit.

Wow, it is great restaurant with very delicious Thai food! This restaurant is close to JHU, only 10 minutes driving time. And a BOA nearby has free parking lot. I went to JHU for a coworker training there. I felt very hungry after that. This restaurant saved me. After reading most of reviews in Yelp, I absolutely ordered the drunken noodles for my dinner. Because I love the spicy food, so I chose level 3 (very spicy). But one of my friend chose level 5! But it was a real Thai food! Level 3 was already over my limit, so my friend who asked for level 5 drank a lot of water at that night. Except the spicy taste, I could still tell it is very amazingly yummy Thai food. Service is excellent! Absolutely 5 stars!

MmmmMmmmMmmm The food and service are great. Living outside of the city it was an investment in time and energy to get here, but worth it if only for the wonderful papaya salad. We enjoyed the atmosphere and our host was accommodating and understanding of our family like we were his own. The curry was different than we'd had outside of Lotus of Siam in Vegas. Beware fans of sweet sauces, this is plenty more adventurous and rewarding.

Seriously this restaurant is disappointing and terrible. Dishes are outrageously overpriced, almost twice as the normal price range! Poor customer service( a grumpy old man). After we started eating, the restaurant went out of electricity and they were not even a bit apologetic! When we asked for candle, they just coldly replied" we don't have candles you know". Well, I expect restaurant to make up for customers when they put customers in such a situation! We had to finish eating in the dark. I had no idea why it got 4 stars.

Came here with my friends in Baltimore as this was their go-to neighborhood Thai restaurant. Not going to lie, the walk was rather sketchy and anxiety inducing as you traipse from the safety of Hopkins to the "ghetto", but Thai Restaurant is fortunately very close. Outside appearance is nothing special and indoor decor is mediocre at best (keep an eye out for sketches of deities and their nipples), but the food was a treat. An older man (presumably the owner of the restaurant) very kindly told us the specials for the night, though we stuck with our typical Thai favorites. I ordered the Tom Yum Gai and requested it to be "Bangkok spicy", which it most definitely was. Unsure whether the shrimp and chicken versions are intentionally cooked differently or if it was inconsistency, but my friends soup was more lemon grassy while mine was mostly all tomato tasting. I split a chicken red curry dish, "just outside of bangkok spicy", with my friend and it was delicious - could definitely taste the coconut and a perfect amount of spice. Thai iced tea also a great compliment to the spicy dishes. Given the location and price range, would say its a hidden gem in Baltimore.

I came for the rave reviews and was disappointed. I've long been a patron of Stang of Siam and prefer their panang curry which is actually cheaper. The location is sketchy and the decor felt a little old. It gets two stars for the fast and attentive service.

Thai food is my favorite pick any day of the week. This place is close to my house, and I have ordered a couple of times. This is for take out only, as I have not eaten in the restaurant. The food is good, it's just not great as far as Thai food goes. I have eaten at many, many thai establishments. I found the curry thin, and the flavor was good, just a bit weak. This place is more expensive than other thai restaurants in the area. They aslo charged $4 to add a few chunks of eggplant in my red curry. The owner is very pleasant, but I can't comment on in restaurant service. I prefer Stang of Siam, Ban Thai, or Spice and Dice in this area even though Thai restaurant is closest.

Best Thai food I've found in Baltimore. It's an unassuming spot from the street, but has a beautiful, old-fashioned charm on the inside. The service is excellent. I guarantee you'll be charmed by the servers. Their descriptions of the day's specials border on performance art. But the food is the real star here. Excellent quality, flavorful and authentic. The dishes veer towards the spicy end of the spectrum but the customer is given a lot of control. The server will ask you how spicy you want it on a scale of 1 to 5. If it's your first time, or if you're sensitive to heat, err on the side of caution. As everyone says, the drunken noodles are excellent, as are their curries. I prefer their pad thai over anywhere else I've had in the city, but that's a matter of taste. I've never had anything I didn't love here. Highly recommended.

Simply the best. Better than all the rest -- in this town. Honestly, I wish I could find something better. Its location is no longer as convenient to me as it once was. And the prices are high compared to many alternatives. But, unlike sooooooo many other places in its price range, it never disappoints. As for the location -- It doesn't look that great on the map, but I have never parked anywhere other than directly across the street and have never seen or heard anything to be concerned about while entering or leaving the restaurant. I have eaten more than half the dishes on the menu and loved each and every one. I never skip the mango sticky rice. The decor and service are authentic and pleasing. Thai Restaurant is head and shoulders better than any other Thai in Baltimore, Maryland.
(5)
Sha T.
I recently used them for a networking dinner my organization was having. Thai Restaurant exceeded all my expectations. At every turn the proprietor was attentive. From the group ordering, pricing and pick up. They conveniently have store rear parking if on the street parking is taken. Or if you have a large order. All of the food we ordered was delicious but, the mango sticky rice was a post meal hit!
(4)
Brandon F.
Very rude! The owner is not very nice and lets you know that he doesn't care. The food is actually good, but the portions are small and overpriced. It's a shame that the service is so bad! There are a couple other good Thai restaurants in Baltimore so I guess they will have to do. We won't be dining at this establishment anymore after our last couple of experiences.

With a name like "Thai Restaurant" and its location on Greenmount, some would just completely write off. Then again, maybe this restaurant is not for those folks. They do not know what they are missing. Just a half mile from the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus, Thai Restaurant is one of Charles Village's/Waverly's best. It is also the first Thai restaurant in Baltimore, hence its name. Thai Restaurant stands out to me because it can handle large groups with ease. The service felt like only 2 of us were there rather than 9. And despite there being 9 of us, the restaurant was still very quiet. Do not let the rough exterior of Greenmount deter you. It may look grittier than you're used to, but it's just part of the Charm that is Charm City. Parking can be tight, but I've found street parking every time. I figure my car is safe with the perpetual police presence on 33rd and Greenmont.
(4)
Alex P.
This restaurant is on the corner of 33rd and Greenmount; not the prettiest place in Baltimore. Don't let that get to you, this place has the best Thai food in Maryland. Their Tom Yong Goon and Drunken Noodles are worth the trip.

Love this place. Went here all the time before we moved. You can order to go also, which we did a lot. I guess the location leaves some to be desired, but I am born and raised in the Waverly area. Food is always delicious, fresh and hot. We really love the drunken fried rice. The staff is friendly and attentive if you sit in as well. They are the type of people that remember your face and are welcoming when you come. I highly recommend!

Boyfriend and I adore this place. For all the weenies (yeah, I said it) complaining about its location, just stop. There's parking in the back! And we've parked in the street before and been completely fine. The restaurant itself is quirky and charming. The owner is sweet and funny and remembered us the second time we came. He's just great. We have tried quite a few things in our many trips here, for either carry-out or eating in. Beef satay was pretty average, with an awesome peanut sauce. We've also had a salad with chicken and various seafood items with a peanut dressing that was very good in-house but not so great for take-out. Last time we went, we tried the drunken noodles, which were surprisingly amazing. Nothing, however, can dissuade us from ordering our consistent favorites, pad thai and green curry. They are both perfectly spicy. We've had the pad thai with beef, chicken, and tofu, and all the varieties are great. The green curry is hands-down our favorite, though I do wish we'd get a bit more rice with it. The fried banana dessert is blissful. Enough said. We have NEVER been disappointed with anything we have eaten here, and I foresee our being regulars here for a long time.

Beautifully prepared food with wonderful service. If you are looking for a cheap place to eat 5 lbs of greasy pad thai for 7.99 bucks, go elsewhere. If you want a thoughtful meal, come here. And yes, you might have to look at black people when you park on Greenmount. If that is your definition of "sketch", then so be it.

The inauspiciously named Thai Restaurant on Greenmount at 33rd isn't in the best of neighborhoods, but does have secret parking in the back if you don't want to park on the street. It looks like a hole in the wall that's going to have passable Pad Thai and not much else, but this is one of the better, friendlier, and cleaner Thai places that we've found. I've been frequenting it since 2001, and while I used to eat in weekly with friends while in school, it's become more of a takeout favorite as of late. Their massaman curry is one of the best I've had, anywhere, plus it's practically the definition of consistent. They have one of the better Pad Thai dishes in the city - less oily and more flavorful than Ban Thai, better acidity and complexity than Thai One On. Their spring rolls are fresh, the Thai iced tea is proper and indulgent, and they have an extensive set of vegetarian options. It may not look like much from the outside, but it's definitely worth a try!

The only good Thai food I've found in Baltimore. I've only been there once, but the curry was great and the daily special honey roast duck was phenomenal. It's a little expensive, thus keeping it from five stars. And if you think this neighborhood is sketchy, or refer to it as "the ghetto" (even in jest), maybe you shouldn't live in Baltimore.

Really?! was my first thought as we were driving through the neighborhood. It is a hole in the wall. Had drunken noodles with scallops and mango sticky rice...

By far my favorite Thai place in Baltimore and maybe my favorite restaurant period. I came here the first time because of the Yelp reviews and I am so grateful I did. I have since returned monthly. My first meal was yellow curry at the hottest level possible. I was crying as I ate because it was so spicy, but it was well worth it. I've also tried their shrimp house salad and pad thai, along with their fried cheesecake and sticky rice with mango desserts. Everything I have ever ordered has been absolutely delicious. Everyone I know who has come here wholeheartedly agrees. The price is well worth the quality of food. The service is also impeccable - the restaurant owner is so friendly and hospitable. He has been working here for decades, I think. The area is a bit sketchy and it's location is probably why Thai Restaurant is not as well known as it should be, but it's definitely a hidden gem.

I'm back ... As it says in an old newspaper review, always, always get the Pra. Larbe Nur good too, but avoid the chicken/shrimp fried spring rolls (pasty and a bit tasteless) and stick with the veggie. The Drunken noodles and Basil Chicken are great too. Old School Thai decor, awesome takeout option. Very friendly management/staff. Still best Thai in Bmore.

I am very satisfied with this restaurant before. The green curry is good. Pa Thai is tasteful. Until I ordered the green papaya salad with chicken. The flavor was good, but I found an raw chicken piece inside. OMG, I first thought it was an orange piece, until I found out the truth, I felt so disgusted and throw out the whole salad. ( foutunately I did not give "the orange" a bite" Never go back to this restaurant again!

I have been to this place multiple times when I was a college student nearby. I know the area the restaurant is situated in is horrible and quite scary at night. Even then I would risk it from time to time to get some Thai food. It is one of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore. I love their panang curry. It can be quite spicy if you don't ask them to make it less spicy but I like how spicy they make it. It's never been too crowded when I would go there so you probably will be seated really quickly.

This restaurant has been in this location for the past 30 years. You may not even notice this place, since it is stuck in between a bunch of retail shops and the exterior isn't much to catch your attention. A friend had mentioned that it has the best Thai food in Baltimore. I think it lives up to the accolades. I ordered carryout so I was able to pick up some Massaman Shrimp Curry, Panang Beef Curry, Stir fried vegetables with basil, and Pad Thai with Tofu. At first, I kinda did a 2nd look at the prices as each dish was on average $17. It was worth it. Everything was cooked perfectly and it was delicious. Dishes that had a more delicate flavor profile were done perfectly. Dishes that had more heat, had the right amount of heat. Vegetables were cooked but not overcooked. The pad thai was the best I had tasted in a long time. Perfectly balanced with sweet, spicy, salty and sour. Pad thai is a basic and a staple...it's my barometer for a Thai restaurant. If you can't do a basic, I wonder how well you will do with the other dishes. Overall, great food and quick carryout service. It is worth a trip here.

I grew up right around the comer and have been coming here for years! This place is delicious. My favorites are: the pad Thai w tofu, deep fried spring roll, the whole fresh fish w sweet and sour sauce, drunken noddles, and Thai iced tea! Billy and Fred are incredible (owner and head server), so nice and beyond hospitable. I really can't say enough great things about this place!

Despite its location and its rather bland name, this place is amazing for Thai food and one of the best in the city. I used to go here all the time in undergrad and would still go if it weren't across town for me. Highly recommend.

I want to like this place but I'm not a fan. It's too expensive and I've never liked anything I've gotten there. I had the yellow curry once and it was watery and so bland. Another time I got the crispy noodles and there were hardly any vegetables with it to make the dish interesting. The pad thai is a little greasy and also lacks vegetables.

Best authentic Thai food in Baltimore MD I found so far. I mean they are supposedly the original around here. Had shrimp pad thai and the spring rolls with chicken in it, both were excellent and very large portions. I ordered the food to go so i can't say much for the service but everyone seemed overly friendly.

Everyone talked this place up as being the best Thai spot in Baltimore, so I went. My curry tofu was 16 dollars, and the portion size of a small appetizer. I thought it was a joke, but it wasn't. The food tasted good, but totally not worth it.

What's the not to Love? This place is my absolute Fav Thai Spot! This family owned business is so quaint. The staff knows your name and your favorite dishes to order! Carry Out is great but dinning in is #Everything! The extensive menu is awesome and so is the cuisine. I've been a regular for the last 5+ years! I Love the place!

Yishin S.
Ok, I have to admit, their curry dishes are super tasty, especially their green curry with shrimps. However, when it comes to whether to go back to this restaurant and how often, there are many other factors to consider. First, this place is way overpriced. A tiny little bowl of curry costs $17. Second, the neighborhood is really sketchy. Just give you an idea of the location, this restaurant is located in one of the worst areas in Baltimore - Greenmount ave. Many gun shots going on during the night, and bums hanging out during the day. Therefore, despite that the food is really tasty, I rarely go there these days based on the above reasons.
(4)
Sara A.
Really good food and what I will call a "classic" atmosphere. Although it is somewhat spendy, you will not find good Thai food anywhere else near here. The menu is typical, and they were totally fine making a dish with tofu for me, rather than meat. There is a full bar, although I did not have a cocktail, so I can't say how good they are. The service was amazing, along with the presentation of the food. Going back soon!

The fried rice was solid, i will try it again but with tomatoes as opposed to soya sauce.

Best thai food I've had in the Baltimore area. Rivals my favorite places in NYC and SF. I've been on a mission with my boyfriend and our good friend to try all of the thai places in Baltimore to find my favorite. This is by far our favorite of all. I still haven't been to Ban Thai, but I won't be going anywhere else again! (Okay, except maybe Spice & Dice up in Towson. But still not as good!) I've tried and it's been disappointing. Had the Drunken Noodles, which were SPICY! So freaking good. I can't tell you how consistently disappointed I am with all of the other restaurants after finding this gem of a place. We also had Pad Thai and Panang. Yum! The only thing bad about this place is that I feared for our lives. Ha. No, seriously. Fortunately there were three cop cars that sat on the block for the entirety of our meal. We were able to park out front and make sure our car was visible to being stolen. I think I'll be ordering out next time to avoid being in the area.

I visited Royal Thai Restaurant for the first time today and walked out very impressed! I ordered my favorite Thai dish, "Panang curry". It was made medium spicy per request and tasted great! My girlfriend ordered the "Pad Thai", which was also very tasty. The staff was very courteous and very attentive during our entire meal. I would recommend anyone who enjoys Thai food or just food in general to make a visit to Thai Restaurant, you will not be disappointed. I will definitely be making another visit in the near future!

Kaitlyn G.
BEST Thai food in Baltimore, without a doubt. Extensive menu and everything is great. Papaya salad (with shrimp or tofu), green curry, and mango sticky rice are my favorites. Almost everything can be made vegetarian, in addition to the small vegetarian section on the back of the menu. Way better than Thairish, Thai Landing, Thai One On... the only thing that would be somewhat comparable would be Thai Arroy in Federal Hill, but Thai Restaurant is easier to get to with easier parking, slightly cheaper, bigger portions, and a larger menu. The location could be worse. It's not great, but there's always parking immediately in front of the restaurant or in the lot in the back, so the 10 foot walk from car to restaurant isn't too dicey if you're driving.

Very good Thai and great service. The Tom yum had layers of flavor. A bit expensive for lunch. Most entrees are $10 plus for lunch. This was my first visit but I'll be back.

Brian W.
Went here for first time last night with a large group, and it lived up to the hype. Favorites were drunken noodles, rice pudding and homemade ice creams (pumpkin, coconut). Tom yum koong didn't have the nip I was expecting. Proprietors were awesome and promised to make some gai tod if I call ahead. All in all, very pleased.

I can't imagine what reviewers are thinking about when they give this place good ratings. It's not the neighborhood that's run down, it's the kitchen. The dishes are hopelessly Americanized. The owner is apologetic when asked about traditional Thai dishes, explaining that he has to serve watered-down dishes to stay in business. Sad. Stay away.
(2)
Andrew M.
The 15 year old thug with underwear protruding while popping a wheelie on the stolen bike clearly too small for him down the middle of Greenmount while arranging a deal on his cell phone greets you as you tentatively poke your head out of your car. When you dash through the potential crossfire of this hood, you can come on in to an above average Thai spot complete with tacky drinks with umbrellas. Ten years ago, this place was 5 stars for the good food and nominal competition. There is no Thai food that is worth the consternation of venturing outside of the restaurant after dark. The blighted neighborhood is sadly soooo sketchy. Leave the Thai Restaurant to endure its inevitable slippery slide.

Went back here just with hopes something has changed. Why is this place getting good reviews? It is T E R R I B L E and very E X P E N S I V E. Again, avoid this place. I got pad Thai and it was bland and the shrimp tasted old and rubbery with an iodine like after taste. Also, my companion got a duck dish that was disgusting and over 15 dollars. We paid over 90 for two at this crappy place with the owner of the restaurant taking orders and giving you "the look" if you don't order a main course (which will be awful). Can't tell you where else to go but I C A N tell you to avoid this crappy old trap! My favorite food is Thai and have tried good places in Chicago, Seattle, Boston, DC and LA.

Once upon a time these guys were the only game in town if you wanted Thai food, and I hear they were great. I've been here a number of times over the last 10 years, and I remember them being pretty good early on, then just ok, and most recently... pretty disappointing. In my experience if you don't have access to good Thai food, even bad Thai food can seem pretty good. So maybe that was a factor. These guys aren't bad, but I'm just not very impressed. There are definitely better Thai places in Baltimore now. And yes, they're on a sketchy block- but come on guys, this is Baltimore- let's just get over that, shall we? The main reason I won't be going back is the place is kind of rundown and dirty, and it's a little depressing. The service is always good and you feel well taken care of in that regard, but the space itself is definitely in need of some TLC.

On any typical weekday, you can probably find me at Thai Restaurant. Not only is it close to the Hopkins campus, but the prices are fair and the food is outstanding. There are a very good amount of vegetarian and vegan options - almost every meal gives you a choice of animal proteins, tofu, or vegetables so a vegetarian can have all but a handful of the meals. I think what I like most about this restaurant is the overall ambiance. It is beautifully decorated and subtly lit, and the same few waiters are always there (one of them has been there since 1986!). They easily recognize you and get to know you, so in no time you feel like a regular. The service is fast, dependable, and most of all friendly. The food is always fresh, and they are more than happy to make any changes and substitutions you want (something I've had trouble finding around here). I would recommend trying their hot tea, the singha beer, and the tom yum hed soup. This place really deserves all five stars! One of my absolute favorites in Baltimore.
(5)
Brandima A.
SO FANTASTIC I ate here all the time! It was my favorite place! People wouldn't even ask me where I wanted to eat, they just knew. I can't even talk about it right now because it's making me want to take a drive up to Baltimore. :-) he he

Expensive for thai food! it was ok, not great. best thing was the green mango salad, tangy and not spicy, but it is a small salad and for $15 it should have been twice the size. two entrees, two apps, one tea, and one dessert was $80
(3)

If this is Baltimore's best Thai, it's time to move. We ate here based on our friend's recommendation and the Yelp reviews but what a disappointment. The prices are high and the portions are small. The Tom Yom Hed soup was good but the fresh spring rolls were awful, delivered swimming in sweet-tart goo. The scallop stir fry was tasteless and my daughter complained that the pad thai tasted like crunchy peanut butter. The tofu curry was below average and the "special" chicken and shrimp dumplings were just nasty lumps of ground stuff in soggy dough. If it is good Thai you are searching for then you had best look elsewhere.

Was recommended from the door man at the hotel to go here for great Thai food....and while not the best I have had, was still very pleased with the food here. Great service, decent size meals, lots of options for meals...and not to $$$. If you are in Baltimore, stop by...just park in front of the restaurant :)

The restaurant looks very unimpressive from the outside. It is located in Waverly in a not-so-good area of town. But don't get too turned-off by the looks of the restaurant. When you go in, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the decor and food. It is perhaps not the best thai food in town. But the food is decent enough for the price. I love their salads and soups. Their Thai salad is a very healthy dish, especially if you are counting calories. The Tom Yum soup is also very nice. Another dish I like is Larb cai (ground chicken salad?). The only pet peeve I have about the place is that, they don't deliver. I live quite close, but sometimes I wish they delivered ... The place is generally safe, and there is almost always a squad car parked in the gas station next to the restaurant.

Great food. Decent prices. Bad location. They should really consider attempting to get some capital and move closer to the Charles Village/Hopkins area. They would defiantly gain some business and outcompete many of the mediocre options around here. Still, the food alone makes this place worth driving to.

It's been a while since I've visited but this place serves the best Thai food I've ever had. Every dish I've tried here has been fantastic but I still get cravings for Thai Restaurant's green curry. My only bit of advice - steer clear of the few items offered here that are not traditionally on a Thai menu.

This is really 3.5 stars. We started with two "special appetizers," house-made dumplings and papaya salad. The dumplings were a little bland but the salad was tasty, although not as fresh as one might hope. We ordered shrimp in chili sauce with basil pan fried basil (delicious), a vegetable green curry (good), Gai Pad Graprow (good), and a mee krob lard nar (not great). The lard nar and the dumplings were the reason for bringing this review down.

Great food, bad neighborhood. Best Thai in Baltimore, for sure.

I have been looking for a new thai place since My Thai was closed because of the fire on charles street and I must say it was pretty good. I'm a sucker for pad thai and I really liked their version. I like it crazy hot and they accomodated my need for fire. Most places say they will make it very hot but are too scared to actually do it. The service was good. The thai iced tea and thai iced coffee were a little sweet for my liking but still good. A little pricey when all was said and done but I was happy. Definitely worth a shot if you are in the mood for a new thai place.

I can't understand why this place had good reviews. Few months ago, stopped by at lunch time to ask about vegetarian dishes and the owner was snooty to me, so i left. This month(Jan 2011), took a friend there for his birthday dinner since it was cold and we did not want to walk far. The service was quick but really a chinese/thai mobile food van has equivalent quality food. We ordered Tom Gai(?), drunken noodles and a chicken curry. Not recommended.

When I used to visit Thai Restaurant when I lived in Baltimore, I thought that the dishes were rather pricey for Thai food (upwards of $20-25 a person after T/T). However, having moved away from Baltimore and trying Thai places in San Francisco and Los Angeles, my girlfriend and I both agree that Thai Restaurant remains by far the best Thai food I've had on both coasts (and that includes places in DC/NY/Philly/etc). My favorite dish there, the Pad Thai, is better than the Pad Thai I've had in Thailand. The noodles are firm, never soggy, and the flavor is always well balanced. The shrimp (a must) is extremely fresh, large, and generous. Even without asking for it to be spicy, they make their Pad Thai naturally a bit spicy. I usually ask for "1-2 stars" on their spiciness scale; I personally usually handle a good bit of spicy, but 2 stars at Thai Restaurant is the absolute limit for me. So I recommend that you be wary on how spicy you ask for something (good luck with 3 stars). Their curries are all fantastic -- over the course of several years and several visits, our favorite curry has grown to be the masaman curry. The fact that you can choose the type of meat in your curry is quite nice, since not many places allow you to customize like that. We generally get either chicken or beef for the curry. Again, their curries are by default a bit spicy, so beware of that too. I've had their Drunken Noodles dish once (which was highly recommended by others), but it was somewhat bland and soggy for me. Your luck may be different. I've tried a few of their other house specialties as well, but time and time again, their curries and noodle/rice dishes are our favorites. Their desserts are great (especially the fried banana with honey), as well as their drinks (their Thai Iced Tea is flavorful, without being overly sweet). I recommend going there at lunch, as although the portions are smaller, the prices are a LOT cheaper (approx $7 will get you a nice lunch). I really can't say enough good things about the place, although its location leaves a bit to be desired. Also, their rice portions are generally _very_ small. Even if your dish comes with rice, you may need to order an extra serving for yourself (which costs extra). The place also gets pretty packed during weekends, so plan ahead with a reservation if you can (especially if you have a large group). Also, service can get quite slow during peak times too. I recommend going during a weekday evening if possible, for the best service and food quality. Parking is a bit tricky since there's rarely parking on the street, but there is a lot in the back (which can be hard to find).

This little restaurant on Greenmount is not much to look at from the outside, but it deserves 5 stars from me.I seriously get angry whenever anyone says anything negative about this place. I will admit that there are probably like 2 or 3 things that you shouldn't get there (maybe dumplings, or one time there were these spring rolls that were drowned in too much sauce). These are the things you should stick to : tom yum soup, any of the noodle dishes (my favorite is gwaytio pad khua and the drunken noodles), thai iced tea, the chili dishes, and the curry dishes. I promise that I have been to numerous Thai restaurants and NONE of them were as good as this place. I think some Johns Hopkins professors would agree since I see them eat there all the time.

Why does this place get good reviews over and over again? The first time I ate here was over 6 or 7 years ago, having been taken here by friends who raved about how good it was...and, I am pretty sure, even back then, I was not impressed. I moved away, and upon finding myself back in Baltimore, looking for good Thai food, I gave this place another try, since Yelp reviews have helped me find some good eats in most cities. Well, I went for lunch on a Sunday, and have to say...it sucked! Their duck special for a little over $22, during lunch, mind you, was dry...how does one cook duck so that all the fat has dried out?...and, how can duck taste dry when it was bathed in a bland, out-of-the-can red curry. I hate to send food back, so we tried to ask for the "honey sauce" that was also an option...the waiter came back with a little bowl of honey, right out of the jar. The other dish we got, I cannot even remember, because that's how unmemorable it was. Worst of all, we ended up paying a little over $80, for a sub par lunch for two. Go to Thai Yum for lunch, where you get an appetizer free with your entree that averages about $10...though, it's not the best Thai food I've had, you can eat there three times over and be 100% more satisfied then having spent time and money at Thai Restaurant.

Big ups to this place. They've got Best of Baltimore awards from various categories on the walls going back to the mid-80s, so you gotta know it's been consistently excellent. I went for the first time recently and wasn't expecting much because I'm not always huge on Thai food, but I thought it was great! The portions are a good size, everyone is really friendly, and the flavors are excellent. I got the drunken noodles and they hit every possible spot, and the red curry was good too. I also loved the ambiance because it was very "Baltimore/pan-Asian sit-down restaurant". We were lucky enough while sitting there to witness a really awkward exchange between some drunken propositioning hideous-feathertopped-bag-toting women who'd just seen the Sex and the City movie and some dudes who couldn't wait to get away from them. Yes! A little bit pricey, but consistent with most Thai places I've been to, and worth it in my opinion!

I have been eating Thai from here since I lived in Charles Village. I always have an enjoyable experience whether it is eating in or taking out. The owner, Billy, is awesome! He will suggest new dishes and never forgets you as a customer. The Pad Thai, Larb, soups and curry dishes are the best in my opinion. There are a lot of stir fry options on the menu as well. Don't forget to get the Tom Yum Gai soup! It is incredible and is just as good an elixir as Matzo ball soup when you have a head cold.

Thai never disappoints. Then again, I have no idea what anything on the menu other than the green curry tastes like, as it's so good I get it every time! The staff here is very friendly and attentive. Love, love this place.

Our favorite neighborhood place. Cute little dining room, lovely service and yummy food. Parking available in back which is especially helpful if you're getting take out. My favorites are pad thai with tofu and massaman curry. My husbands loves the pra and the Thai iced tea as well. The staff will ask you what spice level, and will also educate you about Thai food and alter it as you like. (for example, they always ask me if I am ok with egg in my pad thai).

You can get EVERYTHING on Greenmount Ave -- so why not Thai food, too? No fancy name, but the food is always excellent. I've tried several Thai restaurants in Baltimore. This one is as good as it gets. Order the level of spices you can handle. And don't forget the sweet cold ginger tea! I've eaten here at least 10 times (most recently, tonight) and have tried something different each time. It's very consistent and service always includes a joke and a smile, whether and ordering pick up or dining in. I've never had a problem with parking, either. The place is small so call ahead if dining with a big group.

Good authentic Thai spot. Tried a couple of the basics and nothing disappointed. I was surprised by the tomatoes in the Tom Yum soup, but the broth was deliciously tangy/spicy and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. I even indulged and enjoyed in the sticky rice mango dessert and ginger tea. Lots of take-out customers were passing through, too. The prices were definitely higher than expected and would prevent me from becoming a regular at dinnertime and narrowly avoided costing them a star. There's a full bar and the service was good, too.

I am a San Francisco food snob, now living about four blocks from this place called Thai Restaurant. I was told when I moved here ten years ago that it was the "best". At best thefood is sub par. The prices are the most I've ever seen for Thai food. The portions are small (so expect to order more dishes and get nickeled and dimed for rice cause they only give you a little with the entree). The owner was not nice (I don't think he liked our young son). I now get Thai food in New York City and just eat out at Baba' Kitchen where the food is good and I don't feel burned.

Like a few others here, I had high hopes for this restaurant. It's the nearest Thai restaurant to my residence, and for that reason I really wanted to like it. But I couldn't. For starters, the appetizer and main course put me at around $22. Ouch. It might have been worth it if it was outstanding. But the tofu curry dish I had seemed as though the tofu was thrown in at the last second - the tofu had no flavor at all. As to the rest of the dish, while there was spice, there was no flavor. My appetizer, veggie dumplings, were drowning in a sweet sauce, wilting from the sadness of it all. I may give it one more try, but my suspicion is that this restaurant just doesn't do vegetarian. So, if you're on omnivore, it may turn out well for you. If not, save yourself some money and disappointment and try another place.

Thai Restaurant gets it right. Friendly service and excellent specials. We've done take out and eat-in and I'd do them both again. They have your standard Thai fare, and then a sizable set of dishes that I'd not seen before that I can't wait to try. I've not been disappointed with anything I'd had, but if you go for the whole fish, make sure you get the price quote ahead of time, it was a little more that I had expected. Looking forward to going back!

I have been here three times over the course of the past couple of years. Each experience has been wonderful. The food is always good. The drinks are "strong", so watch yourself. The service can be a little lax at times, but I think that is almost part of the charm of cultural dining. I'm seeing comments about pricing and I guess it does seem a little much for the actual ingredients ( compared to Chinese for example) but my dining partner for one of the trips pointed out that its the "spices" that are expensive. That may be the case and if so, then so be it. The flavors are worth a few extra dollars and you don't leave hungry. Have one of the soups, the coconut and spices are a unique flavor combination that sets your palate for the meal to come. I choose the higher price grouping simply because in order to have the full exposure its good to have a drink, the soup and an entree.... you can spend less I imagine but you'd have less of the experience.

The grand dame of Thai restaurants in the Baltimore area. Place has been through many hands, but the dishes still seem solid. Decor has seen better years and there is a somewhat divey feel to it, but still an intimate little place. They've never been high on the heat scale compare to some other Thai places in town, and seem to play it safe with most of the spicy, but the flavors are usually a nice blend of the classic sweet, sour, salty. Curries are also usually thicker than what we usually see. Masaman Curry is a sweet, cumin-scented, mild, yellow curry with tender potatoes and peanuts; I like it with duck. Red and green curries are relatively mild, but spiced well enough for sturdier meats like beef and pork. My usual heat test dish for Thai places is Drunken Noodles; their is hot, but not quite runny nose, eye-tearing, lip-numbing hot, more like a pleasant tingle. Service is "homey". Neighborhood has seen some better days as well, trave during daylight hours.

Thai Restaurant is a warm and friendly place to find yourself any day of the year. The waitstaff is quickly and friendly without being over assertive and the food is rich and tasty. My favorite part of Thai food is crispy noodles, but the honey duck that's often found on special frequently tempts me. The curry always gets rave reviews, no matter what kind. This is more of a four-and-a-half star review. The only weaknesses are the location and last time my dinner wasn't quite as warm as I would have liked. That's just one minor offense in multiple visits.

I go on a weekly basis. I love the green curry and the drunken noodles. Service is always great. The only thing I have tried that I didn't like was the fresh spring rolls, though they had an odd taste. They have a great balance in their flavors and spices. At many Thai places it seems like something is missing or their is way too much basil, haven't had that problem here.

After hearing so many good things about Thai Restaurant, my first visit failed to impress. Prices seemed high for the amount of food served, and my entree arrived somewhat lukewarm. The wonton appetizer tasted a little funny, at least to my Asian palate. Overall I was not extremely pleased with Thai Restaurant, and I think there are places in the area where a better meal can be had for less.

Decent thai food, amazingly located between a number of fried chicken and fried lake trout carry-out restaurants. Free parking in the rear, but you will probably have to eat the restaurant once before you figure out where the parking is.

Very good food, and extremely nice service. I arrived 30 minutes before my friend, and they let me sit at a table and drink water after being in the hot hot heat for the past hour. I ordered the Pad See Ew--freaking delicious. I liked the carrots, which I had never had in Pad See Ew. The broccoli was well cooked, and the noodles and chicken were excellent. The dish is a little on the expensive side, but you will be STUFFED afterwards, so it might just be worth it for leftovers. My friend ordered the Drunken Noodles, which also looked baller~ She ordered the chocolate mousse for dessert, which was good, but not worth the price.

I had heard a lot of good things about Thai Restaurant! I was really excited to try it out. There's parking around the back! I usually judge thai restaurants by their Pad Thai (and Thai tea). I also had a taste of the Drunken noodles. The Pad Thai was okay -- not bad, but also not amazing. It was a little bit strong on the seasoning, and a little small for my taste. I'm pretty small so if I'm still hungry after a meal, it's a little disappointing. For the price, I would've expected just a little bit more on my plate.

Appetizer: homemade shrimp and chicken dumplings were amazing! Wish there were more in a serving! Dinner: Pad Thai, Duck Stir-fry, and Drunken Noodles were all great! The downside...the soda refills are not free and the chairs are not comfortable.

Umm yeah! Very rude! Was feeling under the weather so went here for some warm soup. The guys waiting tables seemed nice at first but as I was ordering my food, a couple walked in and both waiters dropped me faster than a fat kid chasing an ice cream truck. They seated the couple, gave them menus, and started taking their orders and forgot about me. When I tried to get their attention they angrily waved me away. Hellooooooo!!! I was also a paying customer.

Pad Thai was ok, but not the best we've had. Pass on the Tofu soup though. We did pick up, so I can't comment on the service other than to say the order was complete, double checked and ready on time. Mango sticky rice was good to finish off the meal for sure though!

I like spicy food and managed to get that here with the chili chicken with cashew and stir fried vegetables. The owner of the restaurant came up to us and talked for a while and was very hospitable. It was a lovely experience at the restaurant, though a little difficult to get to. I would recommend driving there. The cheesecake at the end was delightful!

Le sigh.
(3)Rosa L.
(1)Quill W.
(3)Hilarie Y.
Best Thai food in Baltimore! Service is great. Food is as spicy as you can handle.
(5)Suzanne L.

(4)Nate L.
(3)Daniel T.
I took two friends here and the waiter is extremely rude. This is my friend's first visit here and they had a very unpleasant night here.
(1)Sheila J.
(3)Bhavini P.
Favorites were the drunken noodles, pineapple fried rice and vegetarian 703 w/ tofu. Best Thai food I've had. Nice atmosphere and service was great.
(5)Jessica R.
(5)Jerome A.
Horrendous service, overpriced, don't go here!!! Save your money. Such a bad owner who literally doesn't care about his customers

(5)Aaron C.
(4)Kailin H.
(1)Sanjay J.
Haiku: In a sketchy place, but the best drunken noodles. What more could you need?
(4)Rustin G.
Very rude waiter. Food was alright, but not that great. Especially not for the price. Wouldn't recommend.
(2)Rona L.
(4)Dania M.
I came for the rave reviews and was disappointed. I've long been a patron of Stang of Siam and prefer their panang curry which is actually cheaper. The location is sketchy and the decor felt a little old. It gets two stars for the fast and attentive service.
(2)Melissa D.
(3)Josh A.
(5)ChaCha C.
(5)Sha T.
(4)Brandon F.
(1)Javad A.
(4)Alex P.
This restaurant is on the corner of 33rd and Greenmount; not the prettiest place in Baltimore. Don't let that get to you, this place has the best Thai food in Maryland. Their Tom Yong Goon and Drunken Noodles are worth the trip.
(5)J w.
(5)Addie F.

(4)Reba A.
Really?! was my first thought as we were driving through the neighborhood. It is a hole in the wall. Had drunken noodles with scallops and mango sticky rice...
(4)Bertha H.
(5)Jef B.
(4)Ai-Chen Y.
(1)Sarah I.
(5)Jen W.
(4)Meredith T.
(5)Jean S.
Despite its location and its rather bland name, this place is amazing for Thai food and one of the best in the city. I used to go here all the time in undergrad and would still go if it weren't across town for me. Highly recommend.
(5)Carter N.
(2)Josh L.
(4)Matthew L.
Everyone talked this place up as being the best Thai spot in Baltimore, so I went. My curry tofu was 16 dollars, and the portion size of a small appetizer. I thought it was a joke, but it wasn't. The food tasted good, but totally not worth it.
(2)Kay M.
(5)Anne K.
Delicious food, excellent service. Great for vegetarians and vegans.
(4)Yishin S.
(4)Sara A.
(4)Kojo B.
The fried rice was solid, i will try it again but with tomatoes as opposed to soya sauce.
(4)Nikki R.
(5)Tony G.
(4)Kaitlyn G.
(5)Rick F.
Very good Thai and great service. The Tom yum had layers of flavor. A bit expensive for lunch. Most entrees are $10 plus for lunch. This was my first visit but I'll be back.
(4)Brian W.
(4)Andrew B.
Sad. Stay away.
(2)Andrew M.
(2)Meatdowntown C.
(1)Brooke M.
(2)Amanda K.
(5)Brandima A.
SO FANTASTIC I ate here all the time! It was my favorite place! People wouldn't even ask me where I wanted to eat, they just knew. I can't even talk about it right now because it's making me want to take a drive up to Baltimore. :-) he he
(5)sarah b.
Expensive for thai food! it was ok, not great. best thing was the green mango salad, tangy and not spicy, but it is a small salad and for $15 it should have been twice the size. two entrees, two apps, one tea, and one dessert was $80
(3)Jeremy R.
(1)Mike F.
Was recommended from the door man at the hotel to go here for great Thai food....and while not the best I have had, was still very pleased with the food here. Great service, decent size meals, lots of options for meals...and not to $$$. If you are in Baltimore, stop by...just park in front of the restaurant :)
(4)R H.
(3)Kevin J.
Great food. Decent prices. Bad location. They should really consider attempting to get some capital and move closer to the Charles Village/Hopkins area. They would defiantly gain some business and outcompete many of the mediocre options around here. Still, the food alone makes this place worth driving to.
(4)Shane F.
It's been a while since I've visited but this place serves the best Thai food I've ever had. Every dish I've tried here has been fantastic but I still get cravings for Thai Restaurant's green curry. My only bit of advice - steer clear of the few items offered here that are not traditionally on a Thai menu.
(5)Richard N.
(3)Katie S.
Great food, bad neighborhood. Best Thai in Baltimore, for sure.
(4)James P.
(4)Yelp Fan F.

(5)Amy D.

(5)Dana C.
(5)Tim W.
Thai never disappoints. Then again, I have no idea what anything on the menu other than the green curry tastes like, as it's so good I get it every time! The staff here is very friendly and attentive. Love, love this place.
(5)Gina W.
(4)A J.
(5)Adrianne T.
(3)Steve W.

(2)Matt W.
(4)Barry B.

(4)Pascal P.
Tasty, reasonably priced thai food. The service has also always been very friendly. I can't think of a better Thai restaurant in Baltimore.
(5)Dave J.
Pretty great Thai in a very understated place. Had a great time with superb service
