Delicious!!! This will definitely be my go-to spot when I'm craving Greek without driving too far. I ordered a bistek pita and some greek fries. This all came to about 12 bucks. Everything was fresh and tasted great. I've never been to Greece, but this seemed more authentic than any "Greek food" I've ever tasted here. The place is very small so I don't know that I would eat-in, but it's clean and the staff is both courteous and welcoming.

Service was fast and polite. Nice clean environment! We got the lamb pitas and they were delicious!!

This please easily makes my list of top three Greek restaurants. A very small, unassuming place. But the food is EXCELLENT, the owner is friendly, service is great and prices are more than reasonable. My only complaint is that I don't live anywhere near these guys! Hands down the best Greek yogurt I have ever eaten. I make it to Baltimore twice a year. This place is now on my "must go to" list for every trip.

The food here is simple, straight forward, and tasty. Nothing too original but good quality. I do love the baklava. Actually...sometimes I'll come by just for dessert after I've had dinner elsewhere ... Lol.

Love this place! You get the biggest and yet good quality portions for a normal price. The staff is amazingly nice and friendly. The only problem is that the place is a little tiny so on weekends you might need to wait to sit. The pies are just like my grandma used to make, it is very authentic indeed. Strongly advised.

Two stars due to enthusiastic service and a fresh, crisp salad. It is basically a take out place with a handful of rudimentary tables. Food service was slow and the menu is skimpy. I don't fully understand the high reviews but they are entitled to their opinion Might be a little Hampden bias going on.

Visiting from out of town so I relied on trusty Yelp to lead me in the right direction and you guys didn't disappoint! I took my 14 year old and 18 month old sons here for lunch. The restaurant was clean and neat and the young fellow behind the counter was extremely helpful and friendly which is a HUGE plus for me. Our food came out fast, fresh and delicious! I started with hummus and pita points. The hummus was prepared exactly the way that I like it and very fresh. My son had the Lamb Souvlaki and I had the Bifteki both came out fresh, piping hot and really tasty! The biggest plus for me is the place was really inviting and had just a really nice vibe you don't always get with small city establishments. Dining with a toddler is never easy but the guys here made us feel very welcome and comfortable! I will be returning the next time I'm in the city.

Good food for a good price although I did get food poisioning from the tzatziki. The staff is not very helpful or friendly, either. I ordered the hummus and since I don't eat bread, asked for vegetables. They charged $3 for a small bowl of only cucumbers. I have never had an issue at any other mediterranean restaurant getting vegetables instead of bread. If you want really good kebabs, go a little further and head to Baba's in Riverside. You'll be much happier and the food is much better. Farid is also wayyyyyy more accommodating and doesn't nickel and dime for sides. I've been here twice and won't be itching to go back.

(3.5 stars) In the midst of the week-long city curfew and national news crews, I came to Baltimore to go on a trip from BWI. We stopped by Souvlaki Authentic Greek Cuisine, a small restaurant in 35th Street. You won't miss the bright "Souvlaki" sign out in the front. The space The restaurant is small and the ceiling is low. There are a few tables with no outdoor seating. Although there are only a few tables, the tables are pretty close together, and I could distinctly hear the conversations of three different tables around me. Two college-aged guys sat a few tables away and I could tell they were listening to our conversation. The food I thought it was odd that they didn't have falafel on their Greek menu. Falafel is favorite for many Greek cuisine enthusiasts and practically all vegetarians. However, I got the zucchini balls, which is Souvalki's version of falafel. The zucchini balls were fried in balls just like falafeI. The wrap included tzaziki sauce, tomato, and a handful of french fries. Why haven't I thought of putting fries in my gyro wrap? It was a tasty and filling meal. Final thoughts I liked my gyro wrap, but I don't know if I'd come back here again. Souvlaki lacks the intimate and unique vibe that most smaller restaurants have. Although the service here is fantastic, I'd stick to take out for this place.

Not only is Souvlaki very close to the Hopkins campus, which is a giant plus, but also one of the best places to eat in Hampden! I've haven't been able to find too many places in Baltimore that serve Greek food, but stumbled upon Souvlaki by accident one day shopping. They advertise themselves as traditional Greek Food, and if it means anything, the owners have been there every time I've gone in. They're a cute couple that speak with a slight Greek accent and are incredibly helpful! I've gotten the chicken pita (chicken pita with fries) a few times, but I think the pork tastes a little bit more flavorful! I absolutely love the platter since that gives me two meat skewers, a large portion of fries and some pitas to boot! You can substitute the fries for a salad if you're being healthy! ;) The place is tiny (maybe 6 tables?) so if you're going during a busy time, it might be hard to find seating for a large group.

This place hits the Greek food craving! I went on a Tuesday early evening, and as the night progressed, it got more and more busy. I was impressed by how many people were there on an off night. They have a new locally brewed kombucha, which looks interesting. I got the lamb platter (2 skewers, a huge pile of fries/ salad, 4 pita quarters, and a sauce) because the pitas have fries in them, which I didn't find that appealing. The lamb skewers I got were very wonderfully not over-cooked. The tsatziki was really good, and I ended up dipping everything in it, including the fries. I could have eaten the tsatziki with a spoon, it was pleasantly refreshing without being overly garlicky. Ther service was really awesome, and I was really impressed with how attentive the staff was. They came to let us know our food was coming, and then checked in on us periodically throughout the meal.

I love greek food and this place had great reviews so I thought I'd check it out. It's pretty small but does have some seating available. You order at the front and then seat yourself. It's an interesting vibe, very modern and a bit 'hipster'. Ordered the chicken platter to go and it was about 13 dollars which seems a bit pricey but not bad. The food was fine but nothing that really stood out. Greek fries were delicious, the salty feta on top made it addicting. But the rest of the platter was just pita, tzaziki and the chicken. I was hoping for some lettuce , tomato or something to kind of break up the monotony. The chicken itself was cooked well and very fresh but maybe a little bland. It seems like a nice healthy option for a quick lunch or dinner but I was underwhelmed and probably wouldn't return.

I absolutely love this place! The restaurant itself is small, but the flavor is huge and everyone who works there has been nothing short of amazing. I ordered over the phone last night for an 18 person lunch meeting this afternoon - the managers who helped me were fantastic, the driver got here right on time, the food was impeccable, and they even called me to check and make sure everything went well. Small or large orders, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious food for a good price.

TELEIA! Greek for perfect. This place is wonderful. For context: I spent a good chunk of my summer in Athens and eating from here took me back to the streets of Plaka and wandering around the Acropolis Museum. Souvlaki is Greek fast food you can find just about anywhere on the streets and this place feels truly authentic. I ordered delivery even though Hampden is walking distance from me - I love that they have that feature available for $2 extra. I had given up on GrubHub but checked on a whim today and noticed Souvlaki was now featured so I finally decided to give them a shot. I called to place the order and received it 15 minutes before the 45 minute estimate I received which was a surprise considering I ordered during a busy dinner time (even more busy today in particular because of early closing due to Baltimore curfew) The bag they bring you the food in also has a Souvlaki stamp which is a nice touch. When I opened the bag I was hit by an array of wonderful smelling, warm food. I ordered individual chicken skewers, a pork skewer, spicy tyrokafteri spread, extra pita, and baklava. It came with three lemons which really helped bring out the already well-seasoned meats - so good! Even the pita had seasoning on it and was perfectly soft and went well with the tyrokafteri spread which was just the right balance of spicy while remaining true to the feta flavor. All together with my three skewers, I received six pieces of pita so ordering the extra wasn't really necessary (but worth it - I'm saving it for tomorrow) The baklava was also incredible. Flaky, just the right amount of honey, and not overpowering. Really, really well done! I cannot wait to come back here, hopefully next time in person! Even though eating all this yummy food in my pajamas is just as great.

I've been meaning to try Souvlaki for a while, so I stopped in to get takeout after their lunch rush. I opted to try the chicken souvlaki platter, which is two chicken skewers, fries, tzatziki, and grilled pita bread. The takeout was packaged nicely, and since the fries are on packaged on top of the pita, it stays nice and warm. I was a little disappointed in the flavors, though - the chicken was very mild, and I could've done with a bit more lemon. I've had similar quality/price Greek takeout with much more grilled flavor, whether it's a stronger marinade or just more lemon/oregano. It wasn't dry, but it wasn't super juicy either. The fries were fine, and the pita was good. I know it's such a simple thing, to grill and add a bit of fresh lemon to pita, but it always tastes so good that way. The tzatziki, however, was just too mild for me. Where's the garlic flavor? Disappointing. While the food wasn't bad, it wasn't really great either - too mild and not succulent enough to make us return when there are other Greek options around.

The people who work here are very nice and it's a nice place to sit down for a quick meal The village salad is huge and good, our fries came out crispy and hot with oregano on them I'm not as into into the souvlaki (not a big fan of fries inside sandwiches/wraps, I think it makes them too dry) and I tried the platter once, which was fine but I think I will stick with the salad

First time I've given a place five stars. The ambiance is a refreshing delight . Staff are so welcome and lets talk about the food! My lamb sandwich with fries inside: YUM! I will come back!

I was impressed with the humble, kind owner who was proud of his business and food. It is a standout in Hampden. Only 6 tables, no reservations and a BRISK take out business of people in the know. While the greek food appears like all other gyro shops...it just isn't. I had beet balls...which were cripsy on the outside like falafel but tasty red and juicy in the middle. The fries are as people say. In a tin cup and deliciously prepared. The souvlaki is good. The portions are large. We made the mistake of ordering fries and getting a platter that had fries. No wonder he looked at me with a puzzled kind look. Basically you pick platter or pita, then protein you want, then sauce and sides. They are fast. The dining room is so small you have to be a little lucky but things move fast. They are BYOB too. They will tell you where to go to get a good beer or wine. The shop had families with kids, hipsters, and elderly couples dining with wine. That fact tells you something. Everybody likes this place...its inviting...the staff is fantastically friendly. Enjoy your success...you have earned it. Oh...the trip hop music playing in the background added a neat touch.

FOOD: very delicious. The lamb were large chunks that were cooked on a skewer and then served with pita bread, raw onions, tzatziki. Yum!! LOGISTICS: So this is why I'm writing the review... 1. Why isn't there any ice!? Very strange. 2. Why isn't there a cash drawer? If a customer is trying to pay in cash, telling them that you can't break a large bill is really bad for business. Even if most people pay with card, it's usually a good idea to accept cash. 3. Charging for extra tzatziki. Understandable but when you don't accept cash, it gets even weirder. I don't want to charge 1.75 onto my card! I also want to note that the cashier was incredibly nice and kept apologizing over and over, but really none of those things were his fault at all. In the corniest way to phrase it: Management just didn't set him up for success. Overall, besides those kinks, Souvlaki was still very tasty!

A cute Greek restaurant in Hampden. If you are looking for more authentic Greek food, this place might not be it but it is a good lunch option in Hampden. I went in for lunch and got a lamb souvlaki platter and Greek salad. Salad was really fresh and flavorful. The platter comes with a small portion of meat, large quantity of French fries and slices of pita bread. The lamb was not as greasy and delicious. More than anything, I loved the staff there. They were very helpful in choosing the menu and walked around to make sure if everything is ok.

First time trying Souvlaki and I must say, I was slightly disappointed after reading the great reviews. It wasn't horrible but after growing up eating at Samos Restaurant, I felt this place was just okay. I did enjoy the tzatziki, but I felt the meat (chicken) was rather dry. I did order takeout so that may explain why it did not taste that great.

Great service and delicious food! A+! Food: Came here on two occasions, once for dinner and once for lunch. For dinner, my boyfriend and I split a cucumber salad, a Spanokopita, and a lamb pita. The cucumber salad tasted fresh and the lamb pita was delicious. The fries come INSIDE the sandwich, so you may want to order some on the side if you are a fry enthusiast (I have yet to try the Greek fries with Feta, but plan to try them sometime). The Spanokopita doesn't come in little triangles, but rather a big square, and tastes great. We didn't end up eating all of the phyllo, but the filling was the most delicious of any Spanokopita I've ever had. Generous portions and overall worth the money :) If you're really hungry, I recommend getting the chicken skewer platter. It comes with a generous helping of fries, pita triangles, and two chicken skewers-- all dusted with oregano and sea salt. The chicken is seasoned with either lemon juice or olive oil and lemon juice mixture-- whatever it is it makes the chicken taste excellent. Highly recommended. Service/Atmosphere: Excellent. This is a mom and pop sort of joint that will always make you feel welcome. The people running the restaurant really value each patron, and it shows. I usually have to knock off a star or two from even the best restaurants because of their bad service, but not this place! Décor is simple and clean. Atmosphere is relaxed with music playing in the background. The music is a nice touch, not overly loud so that you can't hold a conversation. Pro tip: If you don't mind spices, I strongly recommend asking for red chili(?) pepper powder to sprinkle on your pita. If your order doesn't come with Tzatziki sauce, I also recommend asking for a cup. It costs extra, but is good with any of their dishes. Update 3/27/15: the Greek fries are a must try!

Had a good late lunch here! The space is small, with only 6 or so tables for 2, but it doesn't feel crowded. We ordered the Greek Fries with feta, the Greek Salad, Spanakopita, and Baked Feta. Food came out fast, and was sooo good!! The veggies and feta were both fresh as hell and tasty. The Baked Feta was slightly disappointing compared to the picture in the menu, but was still fine. The fries were the best thing on the menu, hands down. They must've been fried in olive oil because they were very light and not greasy. The warm almost melted feta made for an addictive appetizer!! Overall, service was friendly and helpful, food was really good for the price, and it's in a convenient location!

OHHH my!!! Order the spicy feta cheese !!! the chicken skewers , the salad , the fries .... I guess the whole menu is awesome. Now I rather have pick up because the place is quite petit but if I find myself waling by Hamden defenetively I will go in an have something. Also the guys in there are super cool and kind. A 1000 thumbs up to this place.

Went here on a Monday they were closed. Had fond memories of eating souvlaki at the light street pavilion in the college days but that place no longer exists. Had high hopes for this place hadn't been back to Hamden in forever. Got a chicken pita and some pork skewers. Not bad but then not all that good either. The meat had been cooked and sitting around for a while. The chicken had good flavor the tzatziki was spruced up with some fresh dill. The pork was rubbery and had that faint hint of gaminess. Which to a city dweller like myself means the meat wasn't too fresh to start off with. Their packaging was very nice. Probably should add beef and lamb gyros!! Use standard packaging save some $$

This is all I ever want. The beet balls are amazing. So fresh and clean tasting. My coworkers and I constantly text each other "Souvlaki?" and our mouths just start watering. The staff is wonderful, online ordering is a breeze AND they even will deliver!! Been thinking about just setting up my paycheck to direct deposit to them.

It definitely wasn't bad and when we went on a Friday it was packed. The owner is really nice ! When it comes to the food , you can tell it's made by s Greek but they over season everything with oregano which takes away from the enjoyment of the actual meal ( seriously , oregano everywhere). This place was ok and if I wanted something in a rush I would definitely eat here. But if I wanted good Greek I would probably go to Samo's in the canton.

My first time here and it was quite enjoyable and delish. A nice place on the Avenue, with wonderful and friendly service. A limited, but tasty menu. A good place to check out if you are in Hamden. I will definitely check it out again when I am down this way,

After jabbing my rolled Der Spiegel at the menu and spitting advice on fiscal austerity I sat down to record my findings: *Great tasting food -Great gyro. Right sized. Seasoned perfectly (Equal or better than Samos in Greektown). *Cool vibe - like a miniature Ikea cafeteria *Value - considering the quality, best deal in Hampden *Fries are killer. *Simple done right...and BYOB ...you cannot avoid paying sales tax here; my only disappointment.

I gave Souvlaki 4 stars after my first visit, but after another year and a half of living in the neighborhood and coming here regularly - and I mean regularly - I have to give them the last star. I didn't enjoy my time in Baltimore very much, but Souvlaki became my favorite comfort food and after only two weeks away I'm already missing it. My favorites were the pork souvlaki pita, greek fries, spanikopita, and chicken skewers (with a side of tzatziki and some cucumber), but everything is good here. I will be back if I'm ever in the Baltimore/DC area again.

It's great to see a Greek restaurant open up on 36th. Souvlaki Authentic Greek Cuisine is inexpensive and good for carry out (there's only 5-6 small tables). The food is good, but the menu is limited. No gyros or lamb, but souvlaki (chicken or pork) and bifteki (beef) aren't a bad compromise. Appetizers, salads, and deserts are also available. The spinach pie is great, and the pitas come wrapped with your meat and fries.

Liked it! Glad to have a new carryout option in Hampden and very pleased that it's Greek food. They didn't have a menu out yet when we were there and said they were planning on doing carryout soon. Service was very friendly. The Greek Salad was a surprise (but not a bad one) because it comes without lettuce. It's all cucumbers, tomato, peppers, onion, olives, feta. I suppose that you could dump it over some lettuce at home if you prefer. Boyfriend enjoyed the chicken pita wrap, which comes with fries IN it, or you could order a side of the oregano-heavy Greek fries topped with feta. Yum! Can't wait to see the whole menu when they have it.

  • Amanda D.

The food here is super good! The atmosphere is clean and uncluttered. There's not a ton of seating but it seems like a lot of people get food here to go. The fries with feta and seasoning on them are fantastic!! I ordered a greek salad which was HUGE and had a generous amount of feta on it too. My roommate ordered a chicken skewer which took a little bit longer to come out, but had a good amount of chicken for the price. I want them to start making Avgolemono and then I will give them 5 stars ;)

  • Shannon K.

Seriously delicious food. The pork souvlaki wrap was savory. The tatziki sauce was light and flavorful. Not that heavy sour cream taste. I love the Tyrokafteri. The takout container was ample but there wasn't enough pita to eat it all up. It could use just a lillte more heat to make it spicy. And the Baklava... I could eat a whole tray. It was flaky yet melted in my mouth and the balance of sweet honey and nuts was spot on. I can't wait to try more.

The delivery driver was very nice, but would not order delivery again. Pretty pricey and the food was okay, but disappointing. The $12 bisteak platter is two little patties. They're good, but nowhere near worth the price. The fries taste like all other fries with a bit of feta on top. The village salad was hefty. Would recommend that dish for salad fans. Maybe the place is better to eat in, especially if you want your food to be warm.

Really impressed with the food. The place is very very tiny, only room for about 3 tables, maybe 12 people at most. You order and pay at the counter and then they bring you the food when its ready. Lots of vegetarian options. Started off with the spicy feta with pita. Really creamy and flavorful, it's obvious that they use quality ingredients. I would have liked more pieces of pita but once the entrees came out with their pitas, we just used those to polish off this dip. The zucchini balls sandwich was flavorful, they could have made the balls a bit crispier by frying for a little bit longer. They were a little too mushy. The people I was with had the chicken and lamb skewers, they enjoyed how flavorful they were. I have my eye on the village salad and spanakopita for the next time I go. The baklava was a little too sweet. Overall, really fresh and flavorful Greek food, probably the best you can get without having to go all the way out to Greektown. If you live in the neighborhood, it's probably better to just get takeout, the place is way too small and has techno music playing loudly.

This place is legit! At first I was skeptical when I saw the little hip take out setup with lounge club music blasting, but after we sat down in one of only several tables the food was exactly the Greek cuisine we were craving. The menu wasn't very extensive but had the prime items like kabobs salads and yummy pita . We had the lamb souvlaki and villiage salas that was fresh and service super fast and friendly!

My husband and I love this place! The food here so delicious and fresh! Nothing is dry, everything well-seasoned. Greek food was never my favorite, until this place! Dollar for dollar, this is the best food in Baltimore, not just Hamden hon. Simply put, everything we had was new to us and fantastically savory. It's one of those places where you never forget the first time you found a great restaurant with reasonable prices. Also, location is a driver of success and this location is just right. I think I could call eating in this place an eclectic experience. The decor and wait staff was somewhere between charmingly bright, flighty simple and chic. I loved sitting by the front window watching local street urchins yucking it up with the new gentry, tourists and assorted free spirits on a street corner with a 40 foot tall flamingo. In fact, the whole block is an amazing mix of stores and people that we don't find in other neighborhoods in Baltimore.

To start off this place has been open for about a month and a half. I have eaten here 8 times in that period. I have tried the pork, chicken and bifteki pitas, the platters, the greek fries and both the cheese and spinach pies. I honestly think they should raise there prices since for 6 to 7 dollars I can get a tasty filling lunch. The rest of the lunching places worth eating at round this area (Hampden, Remington, Charles Village, Mount Vernon) I would have to spend at least 10 (Soups On lunch special) to 15 (Anything at Artifact Coffee) or at least 12 at (Stang of Siam). Now my only gripe is that the place is very small, it fills up quickly so order out or call up and ask if space is available. Now the food: Chicken, Pork, Bifteki Pita- These are bursting with flavor and have honestly improved over the last month, they are savory and juicy. The fries on top aren't to much and add a lot of flavor and crunch to the mix. The tomato's are fresh, and the onions are crispy. TO THOSE WHO DON'T like onion, I hate you... no but if you don't like onion's make sure to ask for light or no onions. These are a big part of the flavor mixture, and for me a lot of the satisfaction. The Platters: The platters are just deconstructed Pita's for two. The same great taste and ingredients delivered in a different way The Greek Fries: These are covered in feta and spices, best eaten with a fork, and I recommend asking for a plate as the delicious toppings get spread out the best if you transfer it from the cup to a plate. I have had this 3 or 4 times and they have the timing down pretty well. Have yet to experience the to much frying or not enough you get in some places. The Pies: I personally have a addiction problem with light crispy filo dough anything, and they deliver the goods. If you a cheese lover they add something special to the feta that almost turns it into cream, I don't get it but I want to steal it. The spinach pie is by far my favorite and it has the perfect combo of crisp outside and warm inside with enough flavor without being to salty. So in conclusion my money is where my mouth is and I spend about 30 to 40 dollars a week here and love it. Not to mention the owners are the most personable and friendly people I have dealt with in Hampden ever.

Yum! Great little Greek place in Hampden. The restaurant is very small inside, but has a very cool atmosphere. The food is wonderful. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the hummus, spanakopita, a chicken pita and a lamb pita which we loved! They give you several options for your pita or platter which is great. Everyone who works there is very nice and polite. We will definitely be back!

Very happy to find this place after nearby Alchemy refused to serve us. Staff super nice and food was delicious and came out fast. Only beef is that cook regularly stepped out for a cigarette and the fumes wafted into the tiny place. The front of the house folks were great and the food came out quick.

I definitely appreciate that the owner of this store (he is a Greek) made an effort to make the food tastes as authentic as possible. You won't find any lettuce or Greek dressing in their Greek salad because that is the real Greek way to make Greek salad. I had their chicken skewers platter with a salad and spanich pie. They are defiinitely tasty. Overall, the menu is limited, I would like to see rice pilaf, roasted veggie, string beans, shrimp, gyro being added to the menu. In terms of flavor, I hate to say I still much prefer Samos. Perhaps Samos is more americanized and I have become used to it. I am pretty certain that Samos use butter in a lot of their dishes and pita bread, which is probably a no-no in authentic Greek cuisine. On the contrary, I believe Souvlaki use only olive oil, which is a lot healthier and authentic. I give Souvlaki credit for that!!! I will defiintely come back.

Its a nice place, newly opened small seating capacity place, it is good for a nice casual sit-down, but i prefer take-out anyway. I will reiterate what Tom V said in his review the food was bland, i had pork skewer which was bland, and the pork souvlaki also was bland. It wasnt too bad of a souvlaki, but when one compares it to Samos as a point of reference. This is a case where a little salt and pepper will take it over the top, the tzatziki was good and the pita bread that came with it was good. I will try it again but will order the souvlaki that comes with the spicy spread, maybe that will make a difference.

Good food, no frills, good prices. Nice people. Takeout with a couple of tables. Great hummus. Slightly annoying techno disco playing nonstop.

Great Greek food. Would be better if they had falafel! Don't miss the fries, they're tasty!

Great food. Simple menu (I saw a reviewer call it "skimpy." Too many places try to do too much these days. These guys are smart for keeping it short and to the point.). Beautiful decor. Charming and enthusiastic staff. Go to Souvlaki. One of the best take-out, or simple eat-in restaurants in Hampden, and frankly, all of Baltimore.

My favorite lunch spot in Hampden! Always fresh, friendly people, and most importantly delicious! The chicken pita is my go-to, bu lately I've been really digging the zuchinni ball pitas. I swear I've never experienced zuchinni that tasted so good! Thanks Souvlaki, and keep up the good work! :)

I've been eating at Soulvaki's since they opened. I believe their "soulvaki" soulvaki chicken pita to be the best in town. I don't know how the "souvlaki" soulvaki pita is different from their regular chicken pita but it is. It tastes even better. A couple of times a week I order a "village" salad to go. It's made with fresh cucumbers, tomato, red onion, green peppers, black olives, feta cheese, and olive oil. Delicious. Dmitri told me he orders the feta and olive oil from Greece. I get two meals out of one order. Earlier this month they closed two weeks for renovations. Really missed them I returned the first day they reopened. The prices are way too reasonable for the quality of food

This is such a nice restaurant. The service is almost unprecedentedly warm. The food is cheap and scrumptious. The space is clean, sunny and nicely laid out. I sometimes wait a little long for my food but I never regret it. The pita sandwiches are just wonderful. The salads are huge, fresh and tasty. I hope they're here for the long haul. I will keep going back.

Hands-down my favorite Greek place in Baltimore. The owners are sweet and the food is always to fresh. I will go back once I am back in town for sure.

I am Greek and lived in Athens all my life. I came to the U.S. about 7 years ago and I have been trying to find authentic Greek food on-the-go. I have been misled by all the "Greek" renounced places that sell only initiations. This is by far the MOST AUTHENTIC Greek food on-the-go I have seen in the entire east coast (trust me, I've traveled everywhere looking for this). Souvlaki is the little piece of Greece I have been looking for in the US!!!

Over three different visits here, my family and I were happy to have more variety in the neighborhood. It can be inconsistent. With one trip there, with friends, two out of 6 meals were disappointing. Most of the time this a great addition!

Tasty well presented food from a focused little food spot in Hampden. It is a really nice mom and pop operation, I have only ever seen the owners working here who are both super friendly. They must cook to order because it always takes at least 10-15 minutes to get your food here, so I suggest you call ahead if you do not want to wait.

I am obsessed with this place! It's so delicious and a great lunch spot. I have ordered the hummus, which is out of this world as well as the Chicken Kabobs with Pita bread. The lemon olive oil sauce that comes drizzled on it is amazing. Absolutely check out this spot!

This place was suburb! Everything was fresh and delicious. The salad was simple, but also literally the best tasting salad I've ever had. I ordered the chicken, my date ordered the beef, I had some of both and loved them both. The spanakopita was out of this world. The owners were super nice. Prices were very affordable. This is an A+ establishment. I'm going to make a point of coming here every time I visit Baltimore.

$11.75 for 2 small skewers of dry meat and an enormous box of fries? Sorry, won't be coming back, which is too bad because it's a really cute place, very clean and friendly. But way too expensive for what you get.

Had an excellent meal here on Tuesday night. Staff/owner was super friendly and helpful. All of the food that we ate (chicken souvlaki, salad, fries, spanakopita, hummus) was all really fresh and flavorful. The place is small, but we fit 5 adults and 3 toddlers around a table. I will definitely be back!

Stopped in to Souvlaki with a friend after a recommendation from my roommates and we were pleased to have the same positive experience they did. Went for a late dinner on a Tuesday night and although there was a steady stream of both dine-in and carry out customers, the service never faltered. After being told that our orders would take 15 minutes, we were served in 10--my buddy a souvlaki pita, and for me the souvlakia platter with both chicken and pork. The meat was done right, the pitas warm and flaky, the tzatziki delicious and the fries light and seasoned perfectly. A staff member checked on us at the appropriate times, and before we left I had the feeling that Souvlaki really appreciated our business. Friendly and engaging staff, great food, nice prices. A refreshing addition to Hampden. I'll be back for sure. Edit: Hold up, this place is also BYOB? I might have to add another star.

Delicious! Super friendly staff too, they said they've been in the US a year (at a restaurant they ran in NY)--before that they were in Greece. Got a chicken souvlaki and the horiatiki salad and loved both, the salad was perfectly seasoned even after we added some mixed lettuces. The souvlaki was super flavorful and tasted great with the french fries on top. Definitely check this place out, best take out greek I've had in Baltimore.

Every time I come to Souvlaki, I'm greeted with the largest, kindest smile I've ever seen. The loving atmosphere here is definitely reflected in the food as well, with satisfying dishes cooked from the heart. Everyone at my office is a huge fan of the chicken souvlaki pita. I definitely like it over the pork, which is really the only thing on the menu I'm not a huge fan of. I would love to see more of the shops on The Ave filled with such happy people, but maybe that's just too much to ask in the city! At least I know where to go if I'm ever craving a positive human interaction and some tasty grub.

This shop is a cute small space on Main St. You order at the counter, pay first, then seat yourself. They bring your plate to your table. This was the first time I've encountered a Greek place here serving bifteki (grilled seasoned beef with feta) in their wraps. Most places only have the typical pork, chicken, and gyro meat. I decided to try it out and saw that the wrap came with french fries served inside the wrap instead of on the side. The flavor combination was great, although I thought the portion could have been slightly more. My friend and I also shared the baklava which was topped with honey . It was very good and different from most baklava I've had in the area. My only complaint was that they forgot our desert and probably thought we were over staying our meal until we reminded them about the dessert. Overall, thought, it was a great experience. The ambiance was nice and staff was super friendly. A great addition to the Hampden neighborhood.

This is a good spot for a quick eat. We love the Souvlaki's souvlaki - it has tyropita sauce, which is suppose to be more spicy than tzatziki sauce. We enjoyed everything we got, but we were confused about the fries...would they be in it? on the side? We ended up getting the garlic fries because we wanted a side. The second time we came we bought the tzatziki as a side. All in all it is a good place to eat, but need more options for sides to go with the sandwich.

Places to buy a quick lunch are always useful so I decided to try Souvlaki when I heard it opened recently. First I had the pork souvlaki pita which was good...except for the pork. The meat was a little pink and the texture and taste worried me a bit. I didn't get sick, so being the fatty that I am I went back a few weeks later and tried the bifteki pita. The beef was definitely better, but I'm still not crazy about the place overall. It's a shame because the people working there are so nice and I love Greek food, but I don't think I'll be back unless it's just to satisfy a craving for baklava.

  • Kristen E.

I am so excited there is a new Greek place down the road. The people who run it are Greek, and that gives me hope. I got the pork souvlaki pita, and it was yummy. The fries in the pita remind me of the souvlakia I got in Greece. The xoriatiki was good 2 things: They didn't have nearly enough garlic in the tzatziki sauce. Authentic tzatziki has you smelling like garlic for hours, and it helps so much with the flavor in the pita (this May be why people call it bland) They didn't have the tyropita when I asked for it. BUT I'm excited for next time

Just got back from Souvlaki and I think 3 stars is appropriate. It's more of a quick carry out spot. The woman behind the counter was incredibly friendly. The food was OK. I thought that it was somewhat bland, but overall not bad. Their food is inexpensive enough that I would give it another go. The inside is very nice for a take out spot, clean and simple.

Great place for Hampden. Owner just seems to be happy to have his own business. He was very nice, gave us some baklava to go on the house. Food was amazing. Pork souvlaki was the best I've ever had. Excited to frequent this place UPDATE: I usually don't come back an update a review, but these guys deserve it. To me the best place in Hampden to grab some lunch. Luigi's is a close second but I really love Greek food. The owners are very nice, and def try to support this business. In a year I see them upgrading to a new, larger space as it is always packed

Love love love this place! The chicken wrap and pork ones are awesome. The hummus with pita is a great snack. I LOVE that they put French fries in the wraps. It brings back memories of when we did this as kids, and it's delicious! Wraps are filling and the sauces are yummy. Desserts are amazing too! It's owner operated and the owners are such awesome people too. They decorated the inside themselves and I love to stop in for lunch or grab a snack. Never disappointed.

WE came here tonight for dinner. It was definitely a small little place with around -7 tables. Seems to be run solely by a young, authentic Greek couple so I was definitely excited to try a few things. We ordered the village salad (onions, feta, tomatoes, cucumber, and feta) and the Beef Kabob platter (with Greek fries). We also ordered a chicken skewer. Everything was really delicious. The ground beef was unreal... one of the best things I've ever eaten. The feta here was so good that my mouth is watering while I type this. Just delicious. With a limited menu I can only assume everything is made from scratch here. Even the pita break tasted homemade. Like I said this is a small little restaurant so if you're uncomfortable sitting close to others who are looking for a quiet dinner, this may not be the best option (the music was a tad loud when we came). However, if you're looking for reasonably priced, authentic Greek cuisine look no further. This is the closest to Greece you'll get in B-more.

Between Souvlaki and Baba's, Baltimore has your assorted Mediterranean cravings covered. Of the two, this is where you get some real-deal spanikopita. I grew up on more lemony versions, but still, this is some good spinach and feta. It comes with a side of tzatziki, which is super awesome. I don't know what else I can add to everyone else's positive reviews (green salad, bifteki, yum! service? incredibly friendly and prompt!). I was staring at the menu the other day wishing there was a way to add some hummus + pita and a little cucumber tomato salad to make a meal of the spanikopita at a similar price point to the other meal combos. But really, that's splitting hairs at this point because everything is so fresh and tasty.

I was pleasantly surprised when the paper was removed from the windows of this Hampden storefront to reveal a Greek restaurant. With the variety of available take-out in Hampden, Souvlaki is a great addition. It's clean, bright, and the staff is friendly. I tried the chicken souvlaki. Pretty tasty, but not quite as much food as I would hope. For the price point, I'm not complaining! I will definitely be back as the service was fast, the food was quality, and the feel was authentic. I'm giving it three stars until I go back in a couple months to see how the portions have changed.

Simple and genuine greek food, made from the freshest and tastiest ingedients. The cucumber and tomato salad is so fresh, and the ownrer told me he goes far and wide for the best fruit and vegetables. I believe him! You cant beat the price either. My 17 year old son loved the bifteki pita. "Better than a burger", he said.

The owners couldn't be nicer and the food was fantastic and reasonably priced. It's great to have businesses like this flocking to Hampden. Highly recommend the bifteki, Greek fries and pork pita. And thanks for the baklava! Don't wait to go.

Loved it! The bifteki was amazing. We also had feta fournou and chicken souvlakia, which were also wonderful. Simple delicious food in a friendly and modern atmosphere. We will be back when we are in Hampden next month. I'm eyeing the spicy feta for next time :)

A great Greek family owned joint. Clean, simple decor and the owner is friendly and offers good tips on how to avoid the garlic. The Greek salad was fresh, pita bread delicious and meat was spiced just right. Not sure when I will be back, but a solid four stars. Save rooms or the baklava :)

  • Morgan S.

Great service! Staff are incredibly friendly and the restaurant atmosphere is laid back and homey. It's a great spot for a quick meal. I had the veggie souvlaki pita, which was simple, but quite good for the low price. MUCH better than some of the other pricier sit-down restaurants on the Avenue. Next time I go, though, I want to try something with meat. For dessert, I had the baklava. It was perfect-- definitely the best baklava I've had so far in Baltimore, though I've only lived here for 8 months. I can't wait to come back to this place and try some of their other options!

This place is just ok. I would quibble with their statement of being "Authentic", unless they were aiming to mimic the ubiquitous tourist-trap establishments you'll find around places like the Parthenon, in which case they may be justified. I've been to Greece for several month-long stays, and perhaps more importantly, I've been dating a Greek for many years. I know what good Greek food tastes like. First of all, it is fresh. The chicken here is not even prepared by them! The reason it is "cube shaped" is that it comes frozen like that, already on the stick. You won't get good souvlaki from a freezer. Sorry. And the fries? Yup, pre-fried frozen. Trust me, the fries in Greece are legendary. I've had them, cut by hand and cooked in olive oil right in front of me by a dear grandmother. Those are the real deal. These are just fries that you can get in any crappy chip shop. The tatziki was execrable. Very good tatziki is simple. But like with all Greek (and mediterranean) food, the key is INGREDIENTS. I don't know what they put in there, but it tasted like paste. Here is what it should have: greek yogurt, dill, cucumber, garlic, a disturbing amount of good olive oil, and salt. It's not that hard. The salad was ok (a step up from diner fare, I will admit), and the prices were cheap. I was happy to see that there were indeed Greeks running the place, but that made it all the more sad what they decided to put out for our consumption. The yogurt desert was legitimately good as well -- it appeared they did use real Greek yogurt there. We might be back if we're starving and feeling poor, but that's about it.

Great, inexpensive Greek food. The menu is limited here, but what they have is tasty. The bifteki is well seasoned ground beef kabob and the chicken souvlaki is moist and goes nicely with the tzatziki. If you order the village salad, it is huge and contains a generous amount of delcious feta. Enough for two people to split. The pita portions aren't large, but big enough and priced fairly. Orders are taken at a takeout counter towards the back, then you can sit at one of the tables in the small dining room in the front. Nothing fancy, but clean and pleasant. It takes a little longer to get your food than you may expect, but it is worth the wait.

Ok, I was born and lived in Greece for 20 years and this place has by far the BEST Greek food around Baltimore+ We had the Pork Souvlaki on pita and the Souvlaki platter and we Loved it!!! Friends, this place does make really delicious food. It's authentic, as the name says. It's small and cute. And it's close to everything on the Avenue. Marks off for their not having condiments. I know, that's lame, but as someone who needs mayonnaise or aioli on almost everything, I had asked for some and was told they don't have any. It's not their fault. I should have probably gotten takeout and squeezed it on myself at home. The food is delightful though! And cheap!

It was freezing outside and we didn't want to walk very much to find a nice place in Hampden to sit down and enjoy the company of friends. We didn't have to go far when we stumbled across this lovely new Greek restaurant in Hampden. We decided to try something different on the avenue. Moments into our first visit here a friend of ours popped her head in for some takeout - we decided to sit. The decor is really clean and pleasant. The food is fresh and hits the spot for a light bite out. It was nice to find a place where the food is reasonably priced and much healthier than a lot of the other options around. Everyone in the restaurant was extremely friendly and easy/fun to talk with. Also, it was really nice to hear how the owner is dedicated to his restaurant as a small business and finds importance in keeping the experience personal - I really like that. A great new addition to Hampden. I hope to start eating there more often!

Amazing Greek food for affordable prices. Unlike some new arrivals on the avenue Souvlaki is great without being pretentious. The food is awesome but the service is even better. The owners are always lovely and super accommodating.

This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Hampden and even Baltimore as a whole. I go there at least once a week (well, probably twice a week...). I've had greek food from many places all over the U.S. and Souvlaki has been by far the best of all. I always get their hummus and tzatziki spreads with pita bread. The hummus is spot on and I absolutely love the tzatziki. I've had the traditional village salad, the prasini, and cucumber & tomato salads. All salads were very good and HUGE servings, so you definitely get what you pay for. Do keep in mind that they like to use a lot of oregano in the salad (as well as other platters, including fries). I love their pita sandwiches as well, which have french fries inside the sandwiches (not as a side). I typically always order the souvlakia platter. I love to dip my chicken skewer in the tzatziki spread that comes with the platter. The tzatziki also tastes great with french fries. The restaurant is very small and quaint. I love their decorations (even if the furniture is from Ikea, they thought out the design and space very nicely). And most of all, I love the staff! The woman who runs the cashier is so incredibly nice and we always have a conversation. Because I'm such a regular, they often throw in free food/drinks!

  • Dayna M.

The menu is limited, but the food is fantastic especially for a place this cheap! I've had the chicken pita, greek fries and greek salad. All delicious. The tziki sauce here is amazing and they use fantastic feta cheese on all their dishes. Definitely a staple when I go into Hampden.

We had the chicken souvlaki and "souvlaki's" bifteki pita. Both were great, especially the bifteki pita. I really like the fries on the pita sandwich along with the spicy spread. I'll definitely be back to try the rest.

This place is great. Proprietors are lovely. Everything has been delicious. One thing: I would strongly encourage the owners to increase the quantity of pita included in dip appetizers, even if it means a price adjustment; it's frustrating to not be able to finish even half of the hummus or tzaziki due to a dearth of bread!

  • Stephanie F.

We had the veggie, chicken, and bifteki pitas here last night along with some baklava. Very fresh ingredients, super soft and fluffy pita, all swimming in great yogurt sauce. Chicken was very slightly overcooked, but not too bad. Bifteki was our favorite. Fries on pitas? new to me but i love it. Baklava was delicious as well. Will definitely eat here again. Love the clean and crisp look of the restaurant, authentic greek music playing, and super nice staff. Glad to have some yummy greek food in hampden!

  • Laurie Z.

Good but not great. The pork souvlaki was really fatty. Glad I got it on skewers and not on a pita. That would have been a gross experience. Props to the lovely server. She was sweet and kind. Will go back though and try the bifteki. Appreciate being able to byob without a corking fee.

  • Vadim S.

Great Food, the bifteki pita is super good. Prices are pretty good, not too high not crazy cheap either. But the quality of the food is good and for that its a good value. The owners are super nice, help out with choices also if you're not really familiar with greek food.
